  1. 3rd!
Will also be a Hogeye fan today. Bro is at the game in Lincoln and I’m hoping for a profanity laced phone call later in the day.
    Go Beav’s!

  2. Root for Aunt Patty’s Cougars to beat the Huskies. A Cougar win sets up Leach for a potential upgrade to Miami, Missouri even LSU?

The Beavs would benefit from a coaching change in Pullman, it could tip the balance as those crucial 2 star guys make up their minds. JB

  3. I agree Huskers will get an upset. Just seems typical Riley to appease the fanbase. We know he’ll get to 8 or 9 wins in a year or two, but the question is whether that will be enough.

  4. Great play calling so far. In the past they’ve done this for one drive or so and couldn’t sustain it. Should be interested if they can keep it up. Nice to see Collins with good body language in this new role. Hopefully he embraces being a jack of all trades since he is a master of none.

    • This might be a new role I haven’t seen before. I remember Jim Jensen playing all positions for the Dolphins. But he did some because he was the best player at many positions due to injury. And he was never planned into the game at multiple positions. SC is good enough at so many things, that good game planning could make him look like a master of many trades.

I mean, what would you think of a player who has a stat line of say, 4 catches for 72 yards and a TD, six runs for 72 yards and a TD and 3-4 passing for 72 yards and a TD?

That’s actually an interesting wrinkle for me. Football is such an immensely boring activity for 3:45 out of 4:00. I like the two-way and multi-faceted players. They actually interest me. I wonder what football would be like if the old rules still applied. Particularly, I like the rule that the same 11 players have to stay on the field at all times, and any substitutions are final, meaning any player who leaves the field leaves for good.

That would be a much more fascinating game.

      • They won’t.

We won’t win consistently until every drive looks that way. That takes experience and practice. The more of both that occur, the more every drive starts to look like a different plan.

  5. Pretty awesome drive, and how they should have been doing things all year on O. (As discussed here, a two QB system with Collins in a versatile role).

Now the hard part: stopping Oregon with this D. Do not see that happening unless they took roids maybe.

  6. There’s the Ducks answer. Now it feels like the Beavs will go back to calling a horrible game plan probably come out with 3 passes or something dumb.

  7. Not sure why bolden takes the ball out of the end zone on kick off returns. He never gets more than the 20 he would get from kneeling. Ugh

  8. Not impressed at all with Sitake. I mean, it is obvious the Ducks like to pass short and have their sprinters run after the catch, yet they are giving the WRs space. Just play close and make vernon adams and these track guys who play football try to complete actual fly patterns. Doubt they could do that very often…

  9. So I guess next time out backfield should just running start and drill whatever ducks are pushing, since the refs decided not to enforce the player saftey rules, teach them why the exist.

  10. Honestly, with all the ref incompetence, corruption, and exponential increase in big money dictating everything, why do we even care about any of this? It’s out of control. Might as well watch NFL at this point. Let colleges be places of education and leave it at that.

    • Yep. It’s why I keep saying we should close down shop and people should get lives. We’re not out there playing, and if some 18 year old jock wins we don’t win anything. It’s all dumb ego/bragging rights (BIRGING), so it’s really no better than facebook or any other pathetic attempt by people who are nobodies to be somebody.

      • It’s nice when there’s an entertainment factor, but when you keep getting consistently stomped while tacky sweatshop U runs over everything, it loses that factor. Plus you feel bad by association, logical or not.

        • The only reason I watch football is the choreography and strategy. Both are really ugly right now, and the refs are really getting in the way more and more. I have many better things to do and will if the Pac doesn’t clean this up this off season. I refuse to watched rigged games. Stopped watching Boxing in the 90s and never will go back. Will do the same for football in a heartbeat if this keeps up. I have zero Birging in me and just won’t watch. Going to write the Pac a hand written letter and let them know. It’s up to them if they want to lose fans who actually know football. Maybe they do so they can keep the corruption going…seems the average/ignorant fan can’t even spot the obvious blown calls.

I said this before, but the Ducks will finally win a title and the irony is nobody but SEC fans will be watching and thus nobody will care.

          • I think you give football way too much credit as a sport. It’s terrifyingly boring except when two good NFL teams are firing on all cylinders on both sides of the ball. And it can still be compiled in a half hour show when all is said and done. And that includes about 10 minutes of commercials.

      • If you’re looking at college football or any other source to give you a life then you really have issues. This is entertainment. If it’s not entertaining to you then why give 2 shits angry?
You and I both have 9,000,000 other priorities so if the beavs or college football in general aren’t adding to your happiness then don’t give them any of your energy. Rather, I believe that we should give our energies to those things that bring us the most happiness.

        • I’ve tried to shut down AB several times, but I get emails from people who love it, so I feel some weird obligation. I don’t view football as entertainment. For me it’s like playing chess, but instead of playing, I have to watch idiots (like Riley) play. That’s why I get angry/frustrated. But I like the strategy and choreography. I play a lot of chess, was in chess club, etc.Sports are an extension of that joy. But they are for losers if the idea is BIRGing, no doubt.

I also hate lies, so I have to keep doing this to get on the media/false narratives.

    • so if the ducks are so awesome, what’s the excuse for Sparty, Utah and Wazzu? Don’t give me that Mariota Lite sprained his pinky finger bullshit either. Beaver football may suck. But stop being dicks for christ’s sake. It’s going to be really fun when the script is flipped though. Enjoy what’s left of your run

      • LOL .. stop being dicks? Yeah as if you write such nice comments … I’ll answer your question. The Defense is the reason, it’s been bad all year. Oh, and Sparty was a 3 point loss, could of went either way. Keep that optimism up though on the script flip, you may be waiting a while.

  11. Any chance we prevent Oregon from extending this losing streak to ten games? People always talk about the pre-Riley days as a dark era, but at least Oregon wasn’t ridiculously dominant in those days. These next couple of years will be at least as painful as any of those years were, with the only silver lining being potential for the years that follow.

    • No. It’s not that dark. Riley left us in a really soft and bad spot. But it will be corrected quickly. What you hear from GA is what you’re going to get. Garretson will be serviceable, as StS was not. And I have to agree that SC is our most dynamic player in the backfield. As a QB, no. And that’s not to say anyone we have is better right now. But he can be used in many places.

Aaaannnd… he won a championsip when he scored the TD… I think?

  12. Collins/all your offensive personnel is trash and your boy DeCoud had a lot to say until he got blocked by a Vernon Adams.

    This is hilarious.

  13. You guys talking up either McMaryion or Collins are comical. The fact that either one of them is a starting QB for a Power 5 school is an embarrassment.

  14. Helfrich shuts it down in the 2nd half…. final not too ugly to the casual observer.

Been on the couch since about nine this morning, gave the neighbor kid my fitbit for the day. Should go over 10,000 steps today and make the wife happy. That is the way that thing works…..right? JB

  15. My eyes are telling me that Oregon is holding on EVERY single play. Does anyone else see it? Why don’t the Pac12 officials call it, EVER?

  16. I see there is angry beav, is there despair beav? denial beav? and all the other stages of grief beav? At what stage is Beaver nation at currently

  17. McMaryion looks like the best passer of these 3 bozos. I’d keep him as 3rd string next year. Go Garretson, 4-star transfer (hopefully land him), McMaryion. I’d cut Mitchell. Let Collins do a bit of everything and be emergency QB/redzone running option like he is doing today (I called for him inside the 20 like game 3…so obvious).

    • It’s puzzling with Mitchell because as a coaching staff you have to catch and correct the poor mechanics in practice, right? If he was a gamer or had that extra something then ok, but he has nothing really and godawful technique.

    • The D has actually played decently for the most part. Sitake has drawn up a poor game plan. I’d cover everything short and play in a small box and make Vernon Adams make deep throws 1 on 1, which I don’t think he can complete consistently. Sitake gives the WR a huge cushion, so Adams tosses a 5 yard pass that turns into 30. Derp. So obvious that’s what Oregon wants to do. Not sure about this Sitake…

  18. I don’t want to get my hopes up, because I have seen this Beaver script too many times, but…

pretty amazing we have a game, but I have zero faith in this D getting more stops. Still, a good way to go into the off season with fight and a good overall showing on both sides.

  19. Armstrong throws his 4th pick of the game, Iowa looking to run clock and put this one away. Just as I predicted, Riley takes another dump with 2 weeks to prepare

  20. You guys really don’t like what you see from MM with him playing a full game, or are you just being stubborn because I’ve liked him? I find it hard to believe people aren’t impressed with his day, especially considering he has the fewest reps of any of them.

  21. Just glad we aren’t losing by 50. This game shows some major progress.

And please, stop running those long stretch plays for Nall lol

  22. Not sure I agree with that onside kick. D is playing decent why do that with 12 minutes left? I’d do it next possession but not that one.

  23. I’m encouraged that at least we came to play today. Not that it was a secret but the ducks D is just terrible and Baldwin looks to be calling a decent game finally.

With the Bike Smileys losing this is turning out to be a good way to end the season.

  24. I can honestly say I don’t care if we don’t win, but damn a win would be amazing! (and would do wonders for the program moving forward)

    • Agreed, they are fighting, that’s all I care about now. This is what I asked for back when an “A” game was talked about. Fighting every damn play. Win or lose, This is a game. Period

  25. I think OSU should hire me as a consultant. Fuck Crowton. Been saying McMaryion and Nall since game 1. Been saying StHC should be used in the red zone since week 6. So annoying.

  26. No pressure, and wtf was that coverage? 3 beavers 10 yards away but nobody actually on the WR. Fucking defense. We need a serious influx of talent on that side of the ball.

  27. Bolden is such fucking trash as a WR. I hope Anderson watches the entire season back about 5 times, and sees how many drives were killed by his inability to do simple WR acts. Like run routes and catch easy throws.

Great fight by the Beavers though, way to end the season on a high note. Everyone ready for another summer of open QB competitions?

  28. Bu-bu-bu-bye Bolden. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Oh shit, I was thinking (hoping) he was a senior and he’s not.

Maybe next year he can be a return specialist and leave the receiving to the folks who can catch the frigging ball.

  29. I feel like that was about as good as the Civil War could have gone. Kept it respectable, gave good fight, team has to feel good about that effort going into the offseason. Found next years RB (Nall!) and backup QB (McMaryion, barring a JC recruit). Collins developed a role in the offense. Overall those are very good things. D stinks but GA recruited a ton of D talent.

    • Baldwin did ok today with everyone healthy. I will be interested to see what he can do next year with Garretson at QB, but I don’t want any weird shit next year like Nall getting no carries against Utah. The secondary is going to have to improve dramatically, they were clueless in P-12 play.

    • What’s even more funny than your pathetic attempts at trolling is everyone in the Pac-12 beat the Beavs way worse with the exception of Colorado. Enjoy Hell Paso and the continued free fall back to earth loser. Btw, nice defense the ducks have lmfao

  30. I have two close friends that are Hawkeyes alums. Gratz to them and it couldn’t come against a more appropriate team for the last game of the regular season.

Fuck Biley and Huskers. N stands for NOT bowl eligible!

Kinda bummed for the Cougs because fuck the Huskies.

Beavs hold tough and restore my faith in the program. We have the right head coach folks. I have never lost faith in that. We’ll get better.

I think I’m going to rekindle my old love of Beaver BB this year, something I haven’t done for many years.

    Go Beavs!

  31. For the first time in almost 8 years, that felt like a proper Civil War game. Went to visit my grandpa’s grave, so I didn’t get to see all of the game until I went to Costco, but it was so great to see the Duck fans passing by me at the TV gasping in shock and horror. Would’ve been better to flat out win, but it was nice to put the fright back into the Ducks.

That performance makes me think we’ll be in a bowl game next year.

      • 2013 was close, but you also knew they were going to lose at the end due to Banker’s prevent D and Mariota’s brilliance. This time, it felt like the Beavers could’ve actually won had it not been for a missed holding call and another dropped pass from Victor “Inconsistent” Bolden.

  32. Didnt get to see the game because i was driving family back home from turkey day. Was shocked when i saw it was a 3 pt game in the 4th. Question is it worth seeking out the replay? Or were mist if those points in garbage time? Highest scoring output of the year, right?

    • Very much worth watching! I came away more impressed with Andersen and staff after watching this game. There’s a lot to be excited about and remain optimistic for the future! Really gutty performance from a team that battled and fought the entire game, they never quit! Made me proud!

    • The first half was pretty bad, but they had a nice 2nd half and finish to the season. Too bad they couldn’t find the will to play like that every game. It is worth watching to see the team have some life and the offense clicking a bit.

  33. The defense will get better once Andersen gets his own guys into the program and the offense will be a lot better with a better more consistent QB with better WR play and all the RB’s we will have the next couple years

  34. I’m sure many factors went into the final score but what the hell? Where was that offense the whole year? I can’t count on this being a positive for next year taking into account the full year. What a waste.

  35. there needs to be an upgrade in talent across the board. I would like to see what Collins can do under some tuletage, a full off season, and work in the film room. I believe he looks like our best player and you want our best player to be QB. But he needs to be able to “execute” the offense read schemes, and make accurate throws. I really would like to see how he does learning, growing, and maturing with the help of the coaches. If he just plays WR but Wildcats it during the red zone I think that could work, if Garretson is the real deal.

I thought the OL plaayed pretty good this game. I like also like Nall, but I am glad Storm is gone, because we need some playmakers at that position.

Villamin is a legit target and is slowly developing into a NFL prospect. Togai showed glimpses he can be effective. Something Smith never has been able to do. It will take another year to get the “Riley Stink” out of this program, but we saw some looks at how good we could be.

The defense needs the most work. We lose more on the DL which was the strong point. LB’s were the weakest and GA has addressed those needs my going LB heavy on this class.

I give GA a pass this year it wasn’t pretty for the most part, but these “growing pains” are to be expected. Next step is to get some talent in here, then hit the weight room and training tables, and watch some film, and get some techniques taught.

  36. Yeah, the O finally got something done, but the D again couldnt stop much. So I guess that means much work to be done. New talent will help, I expect will help a lot.

At least the team ends the season on an up note. They also will think things will get better.

On Iowa and NU, lol. I expect its the rare NU fan who cant think, .. WE should be the division champs! Iowa looked very beatable, and NU has the talent, but not the coaching. Riles better do better or he is on the way out….even an 8 or 9 win season is just doing like Pellini did before….

And….I feel for Chip Kelly. He was a great college coach, but the pros are dog eat dog…

  37. Her’s my early depth chart for next year… input would be appreciated
    QB: Garretson-McMaryion-Mitchell or Collins
RB: Nall- Tim Cook- Kyle White- Chris Brown- Deltron Sands
    WR: Villamin- Tyson Penn
Slot: Bolden or Paul Lucas- Timmy Hernandez- Javonte Ferguson
WR: Paul Lucas or Trevon Bradford or Seth Collins
TE: Togiai- Caleb Smith- Vanderveen- Wily Matagi
    OL(just starters): Andrews-Lauina-Seumalo-Kearsley-Stanton
    DE:Failuga-Garcia-Pritchard
    DT: Aydon-Savea-Vakameilalo-Houston
    DE: Garcia orPritchard-Rashed- Unatoa Whitson
    LB: Ortiz- Hungalu
    LB: Mageo-Saulo
    LB:Willis-Ugwoegbu
    CB: DeCoud- Christian Wallace- Williams
CB: Kendall Hill- Jay Irvine- Shawn Wilson
    Nickel: Chappell-Williams
Safety: Michael Johnson-Shurod Thompson- Jalen Moore
Safety: Justin Strong-Brandon Arnold-Ovgard or Soesman

    • I think Caleb Smith is done.

I doubt Bolden starts at WR. He probably returns kicks and punts and that’s it. WR will probably be Villamin, Jarmon, Lucas and maybe even a freshman.

The D is impossible to predict at this point there will be a massive overhaul.

      • Forgot about Jarmon
WR and the defense were the hardest to predict I didn’t want to put Bolden as a starter but the coaches seem to like him. I’m real excited about the depth we will have at RB.

      • It reading a few comments, the coaching staff seems to be intrigued with Paul Lucas at RB also. I think Baldwin was talking about “bulking him up” a little for next season.

    • I believe Harlow starts at Tackle. Andrews could move to Guard. Kearsley probably backs up.

I think the LB’s get a shake up.
I have Kongbo as a starter.

      • Didn’t want to put Kongbo because he hasn’t committed. Forgot about Harlow. I think Willis will start at LB and the others were hard to predict.

        • Kongbo was a half hearted joke.
I like the OL, even if Isaac doesn’t come back. Harlow and Andrews will be back Clarkson, Delp, and Hopkins have gained experienced will push for playing time. Kearsley is an X-factor. Obviously, Isaac coming back is even better.

Spring will go a long ways in determining the RB’s depth chart. Bolden shouldn’t start, he could provide depth. Hawkins is just another Bolden, maybe a switch to defense is in order.

        • Yet he has not played in 2 seasons, and has limited game experience. But that is why I put him as X-factor. I suppose you could put Isaac at C, Andrews and Kearsley at Guard, with Stanton and Harlow at Tackles

        • Amen. Another long reach Opie project. I can’t believe folks on some sites actually get excited about a two star with no other P5 offers that we’re competing against Texas St. for his services. The “I’d rather take a Texas or a Florida 2* over a over a 3-4* from some other region” narrative is BS. Hill was a low 3* at best but didn’t have any other significant offers. Trent Moore, Hopkins, and Yani whatever out of Illinois – same deal. The Ewing kid out of Iowa, although already gone, was also a longshot. Some folks were actually worried that Iowa State would poach him! We need to jettison the weak ass complex. I do think we’re headed in the right direction with GA.

Lastly, not running Nall against Utah because of this or that was a red flag re. this staff. Overall I think we’re in much better hands now but this staff isn’t anywhere near perfect.

          • I agree about the Nall/Utah game. You have a player performing above all expectations yet not play him due to an opponent’s particular defensive scheme, even when you’ve tried everything else and are losing anyway?

      • Hill is not a Pac 12 nor a P5 level player. He’s worse than Noland Lewis amd that’s saying something.

Gilmore – rated high oit of HS but nothing in 3 years…

Brennen, although I’ve been a fan, has a hell of a lot of work to do. Wheaton and Cooks made him look good but they weren’t his recruits. C’mon Brent, shore up your unit.

Odum may be on the hot seat. He doesn’t have a lot to work with but our secondary is worse than a Spinal Tap review. Absolute Shit Sandwich.

    • Why does everyone assume Cook is going to be so good? Also, no Hill please and I doubt Penn is back up and that Garcia starts. Hpuston higer on the depth chart imo.

  38. this tweet speaks to the Riley Stink
    Caleb Smith
Sad for the number of red shirts that decided not to come to the game. Lack of commitment has bitten this team all year.

  39. Proud of this young team today. Mostly happy with the fact that this should be a game that helps with recruiting and keeping recruits. Yes a win would have been better, but this was the next best thing.

I really do hope GA cleans house by asking Riley recruits to leave and hope he takes Bolden to WR school or pulls him from that position.

    • Hopefully Bolden can be moved to the 3rd or 4th option (in terms of targets). He’s obviously capable of being an explosive play maker once he has the ball, but the guy just drops too many passes to be relied on for the volume of targets he got this year.

Villamin should remain the #1 receiving option and hopefully Paul Lucas can become the #2. Maybe Togiai can become the #3 option.

Jarmon was actually the #3 in terms of # of targets this year, but I’m thinking he’ll be beat out by Lucas and Togiai next year.

  40. 365 days until the next Civil War. To get over the hump this program needs to take advantage of every day until Spring Camp. Get as much of a head start as you can. Keep hitting the weight room. Keep processing in your mind how you can improve. With total buy in and a culture built around being tougher like Sparta was with Athens, then Oregon State is capable of being the more dominant program of this longest rivalry in college sports. You have to eat, drink, live and sleep it though if you are going to make the mental commitment to be the hands down most prepared team on the field and savoring every moment of opportunity throughout the full 60 minutes.

  41. This makes it sound like all the redshirts will be asked not to return.

Missed the bus or don’t want to be Beavers? Either way they don’t belong.

    Kyle DeVan added,
    Tim Euhus @EuhusBeaver
@DAnderson314 – there were a few games where the product was awful this year. Can’t believe the redshirts missed the bus. Unacceptable.

    • That’s nice.

It’s good that you have enthusiasm. But maybe you should wait until signing day and spring ball before you think you have a clue.

  42. Our women’s basketball team won big over Hofstra, and takes on Arkansas tomorrow. 4-0 and looking sharp.

I didn’t watch the game today. First Civil War I haven’t watched in however long. Pleasantly surprised that it was as close as it was. Even if the score isn’t indicative, just thank goodness it was only 10 points. I think that has to be indicative of how GA feels the importance of the Civil War is. Once we break this God forsaken streak, the tides will quickly turn. Put 3 years together and the state will turn orange with the quickness.

Now for GA to do some work. He’s still a little handicapped on this recruiting cycle, because he doesn’t physically have Valley to recruit with. I think 2017 recruits are gonna be the first lot that get to see it, but since they usually commit in the summer, we’re gonna have to do some flipping come late 2016 with our play and some late OVs. Respect the Process has never rang more true, just because we can’t really tell anything for some years. 2017 we should be competitive, but after that we can start expecting some results. If we have a successful 2017 class that is top 30, then we gotta wait for a couple of years with those guys. The future is only brighter.

This year was a train wreck, terrible on both sides of the ball. At least we can hope to massively overhaul the defense talent and start really playing. The next game isn’t until September 1st at Minnesota, so I hope this team is ready. Our team is gonna be young again next year, but a lot of bad stuff is getting phased out.

      • [melodramatic announcer’s voice] Two rodents. Eight incisors…only. ONE. VICTOR.

You should sit exactly on a 50-yard line, so you can represent both sides…

    • I don’t wan’t to pick on you here. I know there were a lot who did the same as you and will never fess up. But why did you not watch the CW? I can understand avoiding all forms of digital info for hours on end until you get home and watch your DVR. But I don’t get not watching.

And I’m one who really hates football and all it stands for and all its stupidity and all the fucking standing around by everyone most of the time yet pretending they’re something special as athletes.

      Hey! NASCAR drivers are athletes!!!

      Murica!

  43. Listening to the Big Red Overreaction podcast. Callers killing Riley, his overly pass-happy square peg in a round hole, incoherent gosh golly press conference ways.

Cheers me up every time :) #TPB

  44. I thought MMM play pretty well today considering lack of previous playing time and having his first start in what is the biggest game of the year for us. Yes he had some bonehead freshman moments but did a commendable job today. Probably better option then SC or NM.

Bolden is my biggest love hate player right now. He kept us in the game yet lost us the game.

Nall is just a stud… Or war daddy.. Or something like that. More positives from GA and company then negatives even though it was a toilet season.

  45. @Pac12Networks: POLL: Should @WinTheDay be considered for an at-large bid to a New Year’s Six bowl game?

Are you kidding me? They have 3 losses! If they do end up in any other bowl besides the Alamo, Holiday, or Sun, then it’s all because Uncle Phil is writing checks and paying the way! Which is unethical and flat out wrong! If it were the Beavers in under the same circumstances, we all know what would happen! Now the @Pac12Networks is spouting this horse-shit. Whoever is running their Twitter account must be an uo alum.

    • Amazingly Ken Goe just posted a column also saying the Ducks need to forgot about a New Year’s Six game. He even made a snarky comment about their season being saved by the transfer of Adams. Duckies are going crazy in the comments section.

    • The only way I see the Ducks getting a New Year’s Six bowl is if Stanford gets into the college football playoff, leaving the Rose Bowl for the Ducks to jump in.

        • I can’t see the committee letting in a 4 loss (UCLA) or 5 loss (USC) team into the Rose Bowl. They would go for the next best thing, which would be a 3 loss team in Oregon. I’ll admit to not fully knowing how the system works when it comes to assigning bowls though, so I could be wrong.

If they let in USC or UCLA over Oregon, Eugene could diversify its economy at long last with the vast quantities of salt that would result from that decision.

      • If you’re correct, I’d prefer to see Stanford get in the Rose Bowl, McCaffery have a career day, for Stanford to play some solid D and have a Pac team win the game, and read about Don Pellum losing the Sun Bowl to somebody…

  46. Finally saw highlights. Wtf was with that 2nd duck td? The goal line push that was moving nowhere, then finally, after being stopped several seconds, the pile falls forward without breaking the plane and somehow that’s a touchdown? You’ve got to be shitting me. Was it something i missed in replay that should have kept that play alive?

        • At this point, I have resigned myself to the fact that apparently the Ducks are not holding. I mean aren’t coaches allowed to send video to the league each week asking for explanations on certain plays? This has been going on for years and nothing has changed. I think they hook the opponents shoulder pads from the inside most of the time, I guess other teams should learn the technique if it’s not considered holding.

          • The hold inside the pad is something forgiven universally when on the line. But when it happens outside, and the WR takes a step to the left as the ball carrier runs to his right side… and the defender the WR is blocking also takes a step in the same direction despite wanting to go after the ball carrier… yeah.

People think the NBA sucks because of special calls.

            Whatever.

          • The NBA does suck because of special calls. Jordan? And because it’s the NBA.
MLB does it, too. Tom Glavine made a HOF career out of balls 8 inches off the plate.

The questions are (1) why and (2) why nothing is done?

          • Regarding Glavine AND Maddux, the introduction of the overhead camera shot showed that they were not throwing strikes, but if I remember correctly the umpires threw a fit and you still don’t see that angle used much any more. Of course, they have all kinds of computer graphics to show balls and strikes now. What I don’t get with the Ducks holding, it looks obvious that the defense is having a hard time disengaging against 180lbs wide receivers, aren’t the refs even curious as to why? In theory, they watch a ton of football, right?

          • Maddux was a great pitcher who had late tail on the fastball, so most of those were strikes. Glavine was a hack who, for some reason (association with other greats like Maddux and Smoltz, most likley) was given pitches 8 inches off the plate. Glavine would pitch 8 inches off the plate, get the call, then bust a guy in to finish him off. Anyone could do that with an enlarged plate. Umps nor fans should need an overhead cam to see his pitches were that far off the plate.

I think what happened were Maddux and Smoltz were truly great, so legend grew the Braves had a 3rd great, and the umps wanted to buy into it. Some kind of psychological phenomena.

  47. Based on his score and celebration, MmM had a good talk with the sports psychologist yesterday. Nice body language! Didn’t see who laid down the monster block on Bolden’s td return…a little help?

  48. I’m not a huge recruiting follower, is there secondary help coming? I know the Quacks have speed, but their receivers had five yard gaps on almost every play and then the Huskie freshman going 20-26? Maybe you can blitz your way to better coverage? I know kids were playing new positions also, but you’re going need to have guys that can get close enough to make a play now and then.

    • We had a bunch of scrubs playing a heavy zone. There was everything everywhere open all day underneath with levels opening up as seconds ticked. We just didn’t want them to beat us over the top.

It turned out to be their poison. Put that in our book for next year if they’re stupid enough to keep Pellum and… well… Pellum. Idk. They royally sucked hard eggs beyond sucking hard eggs on D. They were almost as bad as us, except they didn’t start walk-ons and children who wandered out of the corn (I wish).

    • Hope so! Looks like they played (shitty) zone coverage a good part of the last several games. Our passes broken up stats from prior to this game were 19 to 44 for opponents.

    • Safeties, yes. CBs? Dunno. Think it will be interesting to see which CBs are kept from the current roster. I don’t recall any special CBs on the current commitment list.

      • I’ll take a couple of safeties who are physical enough (and close enough also) to knock some Duck receivers on their asses once their fingers touch the ball, but they aren’t there yet. That one Addison TD where it looked like triple deep zone coverage and he was still open by three yards to all sides straight down the middle drove me crazy. Maybe that goes to Canzano’s claim that Beav assistants told him they were shocked at the lack of speed at some positions this year.

      • Why does everyone assume Cook is going to be so good? Also, no Hill please and I doubt Penn is back up and that Garcia starts. Houston higher on the depth chart imo. Need a lot of LB help.

  49. Too bad the Beavs only had enough in them to beat one of the teams today(had to beat uofo and refs, not just one). But hey! Didn’t somebody around here suggest the game would be much closer than expected? I’m glad we had a little spark to carry through the next 9 months. GA needs to come out winning next year, and I think it can happen.

    • No.

The refs can be good or bad They can suck the mallow out of marsh, or they can rain sunshine on a great game. But they are never ever an excuse. They are, at best, a hurdle, a pimple, a thing that throws you the ball for an easy 15 foot set shot every now and then.

    • Yes I did and I agree with you that the refs were definitely a factor. I’ve seen and played in games that were decided by refs.

  50. Thought Collins played with a great attitude today. McM played pretty good at times but would have like Collins to have had a few more snaps at QB today. He can be used in multiple ways and getting some snaps thrown in to change the dynamic for defenses can be a tough adjustment. Excited to see Garretson play with a steady style hopefully but am sure we will see a lot more Collins highlights at OSU. He is a unique athlete and when his attitude is like it was today a definite asset for OSU. Think we hit 5 wins next year in Year 2 with a shot at 6 if the team grows up quick and a few recruits play right away in areas of need.

    • I read that entire situation as GA telling collins no more QB, but we want to use you in a versatile role. Collins whining/breaking his vagina for 3 weeks. GA calling the broken vagina an “injury”. Collins finally accepting his new role and excelling. I was impressed with his fire and attitude. He should just accept those are the things he’s good at, which it looked like he did…for at least 1 day.

        • Got to eat Whataburger, and I thought their Honey Barbecue Chicken Strip Sandwich was absolutely delicious. In-n-out is still on top for me though.

          • had In n out for the first time a little over a year ago. Double double was just so so imo. But their Neapolitan shakes are the bomb! Bestest fast food burger imo is the Burgerville pepper bacon cheeseburger. I could live off those. Five guys has pretty tasty burgers too. A&W bacon double cheeseburgers aren’t too shabby either. Damn, now I’m getting hungry…………

I’ve never tried steak n shake as I think the nearest one is in Reno, but it’s on my bucket list

          • INO has never heard of salt… or the idea that potatoes have something called starch in them. Their meat biscuits are good in terms of being meat. Bu they’re not seasoned. And the fries are limpy crap… even if the process is neat to watch… and then horrifying as they don’t complete it properly.

Fries that are done correctly (five guys is not it either) would be Litlle Big Burger. And their burgers are good, but they’re not five or six dollar burgers.

I think INO gets visits because they do use good beef. But they also use sauce. There’s a restaurant here in Eugene that does the same thing, Cafe Yumm! (exclamation theirs). The food is nothing more than not great food. But they have a sauce they put on everything (some would call it gravy). And it’s just not that good. But everybody talks about it like it’s just neato. Ugh! Saw a stand at PDX as well. Salty fat will never die I guess.

  51. Watching Clemson/South Carolina, anyone else see South Carolina’s cheer leaders? Whoever those, things, were in front of the band. Bunch. Of. Heifers.

  52. Storm sat out with “an apparent injury”? What does that even mean, it was his last college football game and he sat out? There’s got to be more to it than that, I’ve always felt Storm was a standup guy, did he somehow get in the doghouse??

    • I thought the whole Storm “saga” was odd. My thought was that he just wasn’t GA’s type of back, but he was a good guy and a Senior leader, so GA threw him bones where he could, but he didn’t need him in the Civil War with Collins back, so those nagging injuries popped up again. I’m just guessing. Do any insiders even know what the injuries were?

      • I’ve seen mention of lingering effects of a knee injury; he’s always upbeat when he’s sitting out. Tendinitis? By his stats he’s been the reverse of normal, ie. going down each year. Seems like he was one of the first to “buy-in” and GA wanted his leadership out there on the field or at least on the sideline.

      • I think if Storm was truly healthy GA would had used him as a decoy if nothing else. Storm was great at screen plays too. Not buying the conspiracy theory on Storm. He has always been fragile and not 100% healthy. This was a big game for GA with future ramifications and to field anyone not 100% would just be dumb.

    • I tailgate with a bunch of players parents. Storm’s mom says he hasn’t been injured all year…..when I ran into storm after the Colorado game I asked him where he was at??!!…..”they held me out bro”.

      • What’s up with that!? I’m not really a fan of his as a RB but that’s just weird considering we’ve had little to no continuity at that position. So in essence he was just benched vs. the Buffs? Same with the CW? Maybe he just didn’t dress because he wasn’t going to get any pt?
