  1. Kind of a strange feeling not having any anxiety about all of your top rated commits flipping to Wazzu or Cal this year. Yes maybe a little anti-climatic but I’ll take it. I bet we keep all and get 2 off the radar supprises.

    GO BEAVS!

  2. WSU now has 23 recruits and 5 o-linemen, without that Samoan kid. All are high school kids. That makes it look like we might get him.

    • That was never a gripe about the last regime.

So many of these kids are big and long. I’m not used to this. Where are all our 5’10” (maybe) 180# (maybe) signings?

        • Even some of Riley’s looked different after one off-season in the Andersen regime. Those holdovers should be stronger this year. And these kids, after a year in the Andersen program…

I think in about two years opponents are going to be facing a very different Beaver team than soft Riley teams they were used to.

  3. This class is looking pretty solid for coming off a 2-10 season. If we can make progress and start to get more wins i think we’ll continue to see improvement. The big factor for this class will be if they will all be academically eligible. Lockette has been a beast for us. Hopefully he hangs around awhile for recruiting purposes.

  4. Parker calls James Dockery “the commish”

I guess he’s losing it, too.

Anyway, back to the last thread on competitiveness: a lot of these recruits seem to have it and actually enjoy it. Good sign.

  5. Lost out on mauigoa. I think we have have 24 commits and with greyshirts and mission guys we can take 3 more? Which guys do we have high hopes for Himphill maybe fuatasaga not sure if he’s committed yet?

          • So, I did the rivals thing for a year and it expired today. In one of the last threads I read last night, Mama eluded to Himphill taking on a “Coach/Advisor” (kinda sounded like a street agent type) and this advisor turned the coaches off to him so they severed ties.

Sounds like the dude gave him really bad advice, as he spurned us for empty promises and backup positions that didn’t pan out.

So after all of that, Himphill listened to this dude, rolled the dice, and now might ended up with no P5 offers left.

Feel bad for him as he seems like a good kid. Might end up having to take on a year of debt and earn the ship’, but he looks like a player so I’m sure it’ll all work out. Hopefully he sucks it up, walks on at OSU, learned some valuable lessons. Otherwise best of luck.

  6. Is there somewhere where there’s a list of the kids who have signed?

I’m getting very tired of looking a Parker’s face and listening to him yap.

I liked it better when they just had a camera pointing at the commit board and every now and then there’d be an interview. Not this continuous yapping by Parker.

  7. Coach Woods takes a shot at Riley saying they wanted to recruit players used to winning/competitive. Man, just called it last thread…so obvious when players are mentally losers, or at best uncertain of themselves.

    • And you’re done this early in the day without a bunch of wondering, waiting, or drama…that indicates coaching staff did the work early, maintained it, and it paid off.

  8. Watching the rolling film of these guys now. They’re going to be very very good.
Timmy Hernandez stands out as a weak link, but hopefully he can be a good ST player and maybe possession/slot WR. I thought Wallace was a little overrated…why 4-stars? Doesn’t seem to have elite speed. Looks like a legit 3 star but looks like he got a bump due to Texas offer. Is he slated to play CB? I think he can be good/physical there, but I don’t see the elite speed you’d expect from a 4-star.

    • Ya it seems that he’ll be a redshirt project type guy at the olb spot. While alot of the other guys are pretty much at pac 12 weight.

        • @angry. It is pretty common for coaches trying to build up a programs top target guys like him. The downside is that they are usually not ready to play their position full time until they are RS sophs.
I would expect him to play ST and maybe as a situational edge rusher as RS frosh. We had a kid here at Minn. with the exact measurables and by the end of his RS freshman year he was playing like a future monster. Unfortunately, his mom got sick and he had to transfer to be close to home. Luck O……

  9. I’d really like to see the Beavs change their name to the Mammoths. I’m not even joking in the least. That story is so unique it’s worth a name change.

    • I do enjoy that our mascot is the state animal. The story is cool, but a name change? Hell nah. We’re historically a forestry, agriculture, and engineering school. The beaver simply fits in WAY too well with that. Although I do have to admit a mammoth would look pretty cool on a helmet.

We could at least start calling Reser “The Boneyard”, kinda like how LSU calls Tiger Stadium “Death Valley”, Michigan calls Michigan Stadium “The Big House”, Florida calls Ben Hill Griffin Stadium “The Swamp”, Ohio State calls Ohio Stadium “The Horseshoe”, etc.

    • How about the Camels? They also found a camel bone…”Its been more than a year since the Camels tasted PAC-12 victory, and there thirsty for victory today here in Reser stadium in their Pac-12 home opener….” Not sure the women’s sports teams would think such a name change would distanced them much from vagina jokes…beavers, camel toes….get rid of Reser have Joe Camel, smokes at the concession stand….

      Site change to “AngryMammoths” huh?

There was a mammoth bone – and actually camel – found in Eastern Oregon over 10 years ago…

    • Mammoth doesn’t exactly help us sound modern. It makes us sound big, slow, and old. So like Riley but big.

Beaver makes us sound sex-ay and gnawty!

  10. This is a solid class, given the on-the-field results from last season. However, it has to get much better. We lost too many battles on the trail, we did win a few. But when you look at the rankings we will be anywhere from 10-12 in the pac12 and mid-40’s nationally. That is not good enough to make a difference on the field in my opinion.

I got to wonder what it would have been if Sitake hadn’t left, now maybe we would have been stuck with more Mission kids which would not help either. But if he could have closed on the likes of Juarez, Mauigoa, Latu, and maybe Anae who knows? It is what it is.

This class hit the defense hard, which was needed. I like Shurod, Wallace, Hamlicar, and Garcia. Guys like Shemar Smith and Kenny Turnier and Kee WHetzel are guys who could help as well.

Offensively its a little bit lacking. I think Tyson Penn, Artvais Pierce, and Kyle White will be impactful players. But I think we could have used an impact player on the line and at TE and I don’t see that.
Mason Moran is QB I like, but considering we are thin at that position I would have liked to see another one there, its a head scratcher being the most important position.

Hopefully, with a few more wins we can do even better next year. We already have a commit for next season so its a good start. Next years class became even more important after this class. I think the Beavs need to be in the top 35 nationally and ranked between 5-7 in the conference, in order to make a significant uptick in the performance. The avg star of these guys is too low in my opinion (around 2.75) we need to be much closer to 3.0.

    • I think its always productive to include Olineman, but they must be OK with the current OL roster, but they did emphasize they wanted more roster balance with regards to number of offensive and defensive players, so they worked hard to correct that this cycle.

I’m ok with Sitake’s departure, and think it was likely better sooner. The characterization of Clune as someone who doesn’t celebrate a defensive play, but immediately starts drawing up the next one, is the kind of intensity and constant attacking I like. Let the players celebrate (within reason).

Andersen et al will build on this class, and OSU’s roster will improve. Maybe this next cycle for example Lockett will recruit Florida talent more at the O and D line positions and secondary. Also, would like to see them getting the limited in-state talent without reaching for in state players just for the sake of having them on the roster.

Recruits will see progress on-the-field this year. As someone else said, this is a solid class for a 2-10 season.

      • A good point. Although they did well recruiting the NW, getting some high end talent out of Washington. They did poorly In-state. of the top 15 In-state players they got 1 (Bradford), oregon got 3 of the 4star kids. That needs to improve as well.

        • You can’t force kids to commit. A lot of these kids want to get out on their own. Even if you offer every one of the top 15 some just dont want to come. Do you spend extra work on them or do you go out of state to guys that want to listen?

          • True, but several did in-state, they just went to the wrong school…

Like Andersen says: “We’re gonna recruit who we want to recruit.” At some point, if a kid is cool/cold to the idea of staying in-state, agreed you have to move on. But that is something they probably try to establish fairly early in the conversation.

      • My concern about the transition from Sitake to Clune is this – -can Clune recruit as well as Sitake. So far I haven’t seen any evidence that he can.

Re Lockett: I believe he’s the lowest paid assistant on the staff or if not the lowest right down near the bottom. Based on the kids he’s bringing in imo he should be getting a healthy raise.

    • Amen Kman, amen.

I wonder if the plan is to have some of these LB that were signed put on 100 lbs and play on the DL or perhaps go from a 3-4 to a 2-5 alignment. Just kidding,,, I guess.

  11. just hearing Andersen speak is such a difference…he was talking about have the mental mind set to be a pac 12 player. Sure it might all be coach speak but at least it sounds a heck of a lot better than the old regime .

    • I only heard part of the presser.

The part I heard was the period he was talking about ‘the in state kid’ who said he wanted to be a Beav but then got someone talking in his ear and decided to look around and couldn’t make up his mind.

He didn’t mention the kid specifically I’m guessing it was Himphill. He was roasting him pretty good though and said they hoped the best for the kid and Beavs decided it was best to move on.

Pretty much validating DB and DWill above.

  12. If I’m reading the ESPN top 40 list correctly, OSU at 39 is the 7th best in the Pac. I don’t ever remember Riley getting that high.

  13. How is this for a bad name LOL. Rodent Bowl is on the clock.

  14. Who ever was responsible for the audio/video of coach A’s presser should be replaced. That was the kind of deal one would expect from Oregon State Agricultural College, not Oregon State University.

Imo there are a lot of people who get a pay check from OSU who still have the mind set of the old days where the OSU athletic department was in debt up to their ears and therefore just getting by was good enough. No reason to look, act and be professional in everything that’s done.

Coach A is trying to raise the level of the football team up to the standards one would expect from a Pac-12 school AND NOW IT’S TIME FOR THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT TO DO THE SAME AND IF THE PEOPLE WORKING THERE WON’T/CAN’T THEN THEY SHOULD BE REPLACED.

Hopefully there weren’t any future recruits watching that presser because it looked amateuristic, like something one would expect from a hick school.

    End of rant.

    • But, but………..we’ve got the “ideation” guy now! And………..still the empty seats showing up on TV even when Gill has over 4k in attendance.

    • Probably students in the sports marketing program or whatever equivalent we have. I think you may have to cut them some slack as they’re doing it for free and still learning how to produce a show/press conference/whatever.

      • Cut ’em slack if the presentations were shown in a 300 level class, maybe.
When OSU puts something out for public consumption I’d like to see better.

        • Right on 1OB. This day was considered a big enough deal in order to justify having MP be the MC for 6+ hours. Only to finish it off with a presser like that. OMG

I find it very hard to believe that the technology wasn’t available for them to get the audio and video in sync while GA was talking. Or if nothing else call a time out and fix it rather than just let it go on.

Can’t help but wonder if the dip stick who let that happen is a ‘uck grad.

  15. Ugggg lots of kids, but not many that would even be invited for a visit of the top 10 Pac-12 schools.

It’s not so much what we’re doing. On paper these seem like fine prospects. But when compared to other conference teams and even Boise State, theres no way to sugar coat it. We’re getting belly to back suplexed by everyone except Colorado, but at least Colorado had a win in conference and their overall football history and program is vastly superior in the National picture.

This is a huge hole to ask/honestly expect these coaches to be able to dig us out of.

Andersen seems like an Ok guy but he’s super low energy like Jeb Bush, and QB’s seem to be terrified of him.

Most of these signees will never see the field. Bums!

    – signed, soaking wet & standing in a field

  16. We kept our top rated recruits, poached a huge player in a huge area of need from a PAC-12 school, and still could very well be in play for one more highly rated player (Tupai).

I think this recruiting class was a great success.

  17. Himphill ended up signing San Diego State.

    What a weird story.

Kids shouldn’t get caught up in scummy Willie Lyles types or else they could face consequences.

  18. The impact of this class will be felt immediately. The JC transfers need to win the starting roles right away or their scholarships were wasted.

I don’t expect any of the freshman to make splashes next year. They all need to redshirt.

      • I disagree a lot here. His listed 40 time on his hudl page is 4.43. His film looks more like 4.6 or 4.7. Good agility but is certainly not a burner.

To me, for a running back to come in and make an impact, his hs film should show him looking like a man among boys against all competition. Pierce does not look like that at all. 950 yards his senior year and only 6 TDs? 200+ came in one game. That doesn’t scream impact player at all. Two games he was held under 15 yards rushing.

The low 3 star rating he has seems right to me. Redshirt and another year on the bench is what I’d predict.

        • Pierce was injured in a game early in the season (15 yarder maybe?)
And i think he missed a couple of games or was at least very limited. Gor healthy and started producing more.

    • Speaking of Liuchan and his fellow LB’ers………

I wonder how these guys feel about their chances of remaining on the roster?
