  1. Thomas has moved on and he had 241 yards total rushing as a JC guy. Academic liability who is a headcase.

I don’t think you want your depth to be a young guy who is learning the game and needs to pack on 20 pounds. If there is a guy who is ready, then sure.

  2. When do we hear about Cook’s potential medical for another year of eligibility? That would take care of RB depth unless Green is an early contributor.

    • “Lemons Tightens Up Beavers Run Game.”

“Lemons squeezes through the gap! He’s at the 50! The 40! He’s gonna go!”
“He sure showed some juice on that play!’
“When recruiting gives you Lemons, make Lemonsade! A refreshing change of pace back with some sweet moves!”

  3. So a little bird who knows people connected to the new rivals (beaversedge) site told me something funny. I guess rivals uses a 3rd part chat program to run their tuesday night chat sessions. Mama used the same program back when it was beaverblitz. Rivals paid the fee, whatever it was.
Well, i guess after she left blitz, she continued to run her chats through the same program, as rivals never cancelled her account. So she was letting rivals pay the bill for blitz/scout.

Then, last week, she was cut off by rivals. This week she needs to find a new program for the scout/blitz chat session, so subscirbers are being told the reason for the chat program change is because a number of users were complaining about the old program. But in reality, rivals just figured out finally that they were footing the bill for scout and gave her the boot.
Finances must really be tight at scout

  4. Bummer i just found out that cole committed to miss st yesterday. Would’ve been a nice pixk up. Hopefully landry payne can step up next year.

  5. Tomorrow to me feels like it will be:
Evans, Moore, Luton, Hodgins, Taylor and maybe Davis signing.
I dont see us getting Lane. Cole chose Miss St yesterday, Miller flipped to Missouri.
Biggest question mark for me is Agasiva.
So, I’m expecting 5 to 7 early enrollee commits, with Davis and Agasiva being the two biggest unknowns ay this point.

After that, maybe a Deonte Fortenberry or Vosean Crumbie could be some surprise names that weren’t mentioned much in recent weeks, now that we seems to have struck out with Nixon and Lane.

    • Around noon today I saw an article posted on Google from Beaverblitz discussing how Agasiva choose the Beavs. I was like what?? Maybe it was a mistake or something they but posted today when it’s meant for tomorrow… I agree that I think Lane is out after commiting to us. Who commits then a few weeks later wants to hold a ceremony to choose between us and Texas Tech….

      • Interesting about the Agasiva post and retraction. Not sure it means anything more than they just have a story written already for each scenario, and some dumbass hit post accidentally.

    • Nemec says Justin Sattelmaier is “as solid as ever”.
He adds that Agasiva plans to announce later in the week, so no news about him is likely on Wednesday.

      • I agree that Sattelmaier will be a Beav, but i didnt think he could commit early. I might be wrong on the early vs late thing, but since he is originally a 4 year player (Western Oregon), I dont think he is eligible for early signing, despite coming from a juco. I think he needs to wait for February.

Either way, i think he’ll be a beav. That’s just the reason i left him off my earlier post

          • To clarify, he can sign now but can’t enroll until he can transfer officially. So it’s more a matter of being counted in the 2017 class, as opposed to 2016 if he were able to enroll for winter term.

  6. Beavs just offered Vosean Crumbie. Teammate of OSU QB commit Jake Luton at Ventura Community College. Plays CB. Beavs hedging bets in case Lane goes with Texas Tech. Adding secondary depth is a need.

  7. “Sun Devils fans are going to be seeing more maroon and gold and less black and gray, marking a shift from what’s become a trend — thanks in large part to Oregon’s 21st-century fashion decisions — across college football.”

Way to go ducks. Trend setters you are. More costume changes than Liberace. Just because you look good (so you think) doesn’t make you play better. I applaud ASU and hope others follow suit.

  8. Good for the high school guys signing early. They will count against LY’s class. Beavs need more depth with all the injuries.

Does anyone know what the current scholarship count is right now?

    • Somebody on another site keeps track, if I remember correctly it was at 63 after Garret Owens announced he was leaving. Lucas leaves, that makes 62. Was there another I missed? (I still think Villamin is leaving.)

  9. Isn’t there enough talent at DT that Evans is going to have to really compete, or is the talent there lacking that much?

I thought there were some injury recovery issues (Tago) and youth (Aydon), but looking at the roster it looks like there’s some D1 beef there in the 300 lb range and I expect them all to be better under Clune’s D and stronger after another offseason of training.

    • Aside from Aydon, I don’t see any others that will jump Evans for playing time. He was set to be in the mix to start on a very good D at MSU.

Per an article about Evans leaving MSU, “Evans, though, looked to be a big asset for Mark Dantonio and the Spartans this coming season as he probably would have made a push to become the starting defensive tackle. As a redshirt freshman in 2015, he recorded 21 total tackles and a sack and looked very impressive.”

    • Never talk like that again. It was the most obvious failure in Riley’s recruiting efforts. To be fair, the death of Thompson was devastating in that area. But that’s because he was the only real steady DT talent we were going to have during his college career. Imagine how much better players like Chricton, Grimble, Wynn and Peko would have been. Imagine Tago and Tui not getting Tuerked because there would have been a Fred from Oaktown to deal with instead. Imagine our O-line getting constantly better because they have to deal with that in practice every day.

Now imagine having to deal with two of those type of DTs. Imagine more of them.

I’m surprised we don’t have more D-line types wanting to sign on to play with Elu. The sheer havoc he wreaks in the middle is going to reward every other D-lineman he plays with for the next couple years.

    • That’s physical position, and they rotate 8 guys when everybody is healthy. So having somebody of his caliber to come and even be in the rotation is a huge lift. It will help us from wearing down in the fourth quarter which we saw all last year.

    • Isn’t there enough talent at DT?

There can never be enough at each position. You want tons of competition at each position so the best player emerges.

  10. Sucks about Miller. Wonder if Kyle White switches back to RB. I bet Lockette has a few names in mind already to fill the void, hope he sticks around forever *knocks on wood*

Is Katoa back from his mission?

    • Thise were the 2 main remaining guys I was hoping to hear about.

Also, noticed the other day that Oregon has one of their coaches following Jaylon Lane now. Would rather lose him to TTech than Oregon, if we do lose him.

  11. Just got to looking at this today, so Hodgins, Evans, Taylor, and Luton?
Did I miss some? Fill me in.

Evans is a huge get, pun semi-intended.

Edit: NM, looks like Sattelmaier as well. That should have me caught up.

  12. Espn on Sattelmaier:
    “Smothers defenders in run game.”

Nice. Watched the film and that’s basically true, but his pass blocking isn’t so hot on tape. Needs to improve that.

  13. Someone posted this on olive comment section. Might be a good sign that it was posted there.

Best of luck signing tonight to my guy @Jlane1400blk.. god is going to put you right where you need to be ?

  14. Since the Angry folks were predicting/expecting up to 7 (or 8) to sign I was a bit surprised to see that Nemec was thinking the number could be as high as double digit.

    @AndrewNemec

Oregon State mid-year signing day preview: Beavers could reel in impressive, double-digit haul http://s.oregonlive.com/eZXfnbF

    ============
If I’m not mistaken the count is currently 5. Is this of concern?

    • These are the 5 I expected. A few other guys are on the fence and might sign soon.
Nemec was behind the times, not really factoring in the changes (e.g. Lucas leaving and depth chart).

Anyway, we landed two 4-star players today (Taylor would have also been a 4-star were it not for a broken leg). It’s a great day.

        • They’re in the mix for several other Jucos, and the freshman preps look advanced for their age and ready to play if needed. Wouldn’t worry too much about it at this point.

Beavs have immediate playing time to sell so JUCOs will be interested.

  15. Nemec on radio saying we’re back in consideration with Calvin. Like around top 2 or 3. Glad I dont have to make a living predicting this stuff

  16. Also OT… this sort of pisses me off. You make a principled stance on the right side of something…
    https://twitter.com/ChrisKarpman/status/808910588814524416

… and then you follow it up the next day with a twitter post with a picture of something clearly written and clearly defying your obviously incorrect “interpretation” of something that needs no interpretation.
    https://twitter.com/ChrisKarpman/status/809145868351717376

And then I have to shake my head that the journalist who poorly reports and blames the rumor mill for his demise is living in a glass house. How does a biased, knee-jerk reaction that is so wrong help in the fight against misinformation?

  17. Regarding Evans background and history with drug tests, GA had more to say than the expected “second chance” stuff. Paraphrased; his experience will help him be a positive influence on other players, and……I’ll be watching closely and will deal directly with him if there are problems

Perhaps there will be more on GA’s comment in the future, he is due on with Canzano tomorrow.

Also, GA seemed to indicate that he’d not be surprised to lose another Asst Coach soon.

EDIT, 6:30pm……..Gina reports more detail on GA’s remarks on both Evans and the possible loss of an Asst.

  18. Looks like we got some good gets in the 5 we got. But a little concerned we only got 5 out of 11 supposedly. Can anyone shed light on this?

    • 5 we signed: Evans, Sattlemaier, Hodgins, Taylor and Luton

3 that flipped: Isaiah Miller(Logjam at position?), Lane to TTech(closer to home?), and Davis to Kansas State (who knows why…)

2 that got away: Nixon to South Carolina, Cole to Miss State

2 up in the air: Moore and Agasiva haven’t decided yet. Agasiva decision could come as early as this weekend. Moore could take clear up to signing day now. Sounds like ASU is in the mix for Moore, plus other teams could jump into the mix at this point. The longer he waits, the worse I think it looks for OSU.

That’s 12. Anybody else you wanted to know about?
Can’t sign ’em all. Still a good haul, and Moore or Agasive(or both) would be a plus for sure.
Also wouldn’t be surprised if Crumbie now flips to us, or some other names pop up we haven’t heard about yet. Just because today was the JUCO/early signing day, doesn’t mean everybody has to sign today.

      • Agasiva would be great. I’m content with the 5. Good group. The WRs will both be beasts. It’s strange that we land two 4-stars today and people are complaining.

Gotta think we get Agasiva or Moore since we have immediate, essentially guaranteed playing time.

I’m most disappointed by Cole. He’s a next level player imo.

        • My thoughts exactly. How can we be bummed on a day when we land two 4* guys (3 really, if you count Taylor who should have been, but had to sit out his senior year due to injury)

Then, we still have a decent shot at landing one more 3*/4* O lineman.

How many classes did it take us to bring in our last three 4* guys? (not counting Shurod Thompson either) I think that’s going clear back to the Seumalo class. Today we get 3 in a single day.
It was a great day, and now we don’t have to worry about any of those 5 guys getting poached during January.

  19. So about the CB position:

Am I missing something, or does it really not seem like an area of need?

Obviously you can never have too many solid CBs, and Decoud was a really good player. But Crawford and Williams seem pretty solid, and Christian is (hopefully?) in the mix. Then there are a few young players that look potentially interesting (Irvine, Wilson) and Hill who seemed servicable last year rounding out depth.

Why are we targeting JC corners? Does this suggest that the young players (Christian, Irvine, Wilson) have not impressed?

    • I’ve thought that same way about both CB’s and WR’s; seems to me OL and (to a slightly lesser extent) DL are really the areas where the Beavs need more qualified body’s. But it does come down to what is available.

      • We definitely will have a ton of bodies at the WR position, but that makes more sense to me as that group really underperformed last year. I think GA is looking for a complete overhaul, and the incumbents will need to step up ASAP or get out of the way.

For all of Bolden’s faults, he was the only guy on the team consistently getting open. Collins was decent but also inconsistent – hoping to see some big improvement there in his 2nd full year as a WR. Hernandez was OK but definitely an auxiliary option and not a primary receiver. JV and Jarmon were total no-shows….probably out of the picture unless they make huge strides this offseason.

Bradford was interesting and seemed to look good whenever he had the opportunity. I think the depth chart will look something like:

        Collins
        Bradford
        Hodgkins
        Hernandez/Taylor/Sykes

6 WRs for 3-4 starting slots- sounds about right.

    • Let’s remember we don’t have all the knowledge the staff does. There could be some attrition that we don’t know about, and he knows they will need somebody there. Maybe Williams injury is more serious (I mean he only played in 3 or 4 games). Or, it might have something to do with the depth, some of the guys like Hicks-Onu for example have been slow to find the field. Maybe he knows that some development takes time or they just aren’t going to contribute? Given those factors maybe we are short at that position.

  20. Interesting to see that the Beavs offered stud RB Conner Weddington who just decommitted from UW. UCLA also offered him recently and he received notice be was admitted to Stanford. I think the Beavs have room for four stud RB’s in their system if they get the right spread. It is a position where one or two guys could go down at any time.
