We need to see a dominant run game, no dropped passes, some sacks, some forced turnovers and a good game from Nolan. We know what we have in Fenwick lets see some more Martinez and Jam. Need to take a large early lead to get the back ups and young guys some valuable playing time.
Nice drive for the beavs. Pac network still sux but actually enjoying the intimacy of the smaller venue. If this gets more people juiced for the beavs calling it a win
Least surprising thing ever, kickoff coverage has been shaky all season. It’s embarrassing we can’t find someone to kick it out of the endzone every single time.
So we are now entering the stage if the game where we are playing to our strength. Since we are up so big now they are now having to throw the ball more which is showing they are not competent in.
That was Sappington on the missed PAT. Apparently we are just not reliable from any distance in any situation right now. Concerning for the next two weeks.
From GA we’d hear, “Step on their tequila! Then give it to me…and my cheerleader girlfriend who I impregnated! So I can impregnate her again! Jump in on this, Seth!”
Boise St – W
@Fresno St – W
Montana St – W
USC – L (not in coaching disarray this season, loaded with talented free agents who’ve had 3 games to warm up, and a coach who can apparently lead. Beavs lose a close one. Damn.)
No, but they’re up 14-0 in the 1st. I’m still unsure who I’m picking in that game next week. I had the Beavs in the pre-season, but that QB could be a nightmare.
Yes. Running qb scores. Usc is jamming the football down fresnos throat. Usc oline is blowing Fresnos d off the ball. Definitely not the USC of the last few years.
1. Home crowd (though it’s somewhat neutered by the construction)
2. Trick play that works
3. Colletto gets at least 1 TD from the jackhammer formation.
4. Balanced offense. I don’t think we can run much on them.
5. Special team big play – kick/punt return
6. Somehow stop that QB
I mean if we do all 6 that should do it. Anyone else have an opinion on what it would take to beat USC?
Use misdirection to make rushes work, don’t pass more than 50%, control clock……gotta limit SC offensive opportunities.
We’ll know more after tonights game in LA
Williams has Dye and some good play calling on his side, along with good receivers. Spy will help some, but I think it’ll come down to Beavs being error free all night with good clock management. Somehow limit SC opportunities, thus smart use of clock.
I saw that we were without Chatfield and Golden today. That’s a big deal. I wonder if they were banged up and coaches decided to rest them for next week.
USC is too good. Beavs would have to win 61-58 or something which is pretty unlikely. Goal should be to play solid, keep it within 14 and not get anyone hurt. Utah will be the crossroads game.
The offense is Pete Carrol era good. Only way to beat them is to play perfect on offense, control the clock with the run, and hope their offense makes a key mistake like a pick 6. Not completely impossible but we’re talking like a 10% probability.
Their offense is good. But I think we have a better defense than Fresno. I think Beav fans are freaking out a bit much. USC will be on the road and Jonathan Smith coached teams play much better (especially defensively) at Home. Also, OUR offense is good. Todays game puts us at 45 points a game average. It will be a tough game but if our defense can be opportunistic. And our offense can continue to score at a high rate, we should have more than a decent shot.
They have a shot, but its a long shot. On another note, it looks like the Pac-12 is pretty dang good this year. USC, Utah, UW, WSU, and Oregon are all really tough games. I would consider 9-3 a great season.
SC finally punts, after a 14yd sack, leaving them with 4th and 33. Fresno starts at their 5. Here is where a long drive, using clock to get to the half with more points will be key.
If you watched him at Oklahoma last year, he did that often and it led to turnovers or big losses due to sacks. Hoping for a few of those next weekend to stall their drives.
Is there a way to play QB strategically that avoids injuries like that? I feel like efforts to extend a play like Haener made there are just asking for trouble in the long run. Just drop and protect yourself. Brady was able to play his whole career with only one catastrophic injury, there must be something about throwing it away strategically and avoiding big hits. Its a skill that should be emphasized more.
It’s all on the offense to keep pace and control clock. The D just has to play bend don’t break and not give up the huge play. If they force a TO that’s gravy. It will take a perfect performance by the offense.
We will need to limit penalties and win TOP. If our defense gets gassed against SC it will be a long day. I’m confident that the offense can produce but our running game still feels like it consists of Fenwick falling forward for 3 yards at a time and Martinez coming in for a nice burst and then is benched.
Anyone else feel like Martinez needs to start over Fenwick? He just looks better. I feel like we aren’t playing upperclassmen just to play them like Riley used to. Should be put the best 11 on the field regardless of class.
Chance looked solid but we still haven’t seen him against a conference opponent which worries me. Hope Musgrave is healthy and the WR’s continue to catch the ball.
I can see us winning if we force a turnover or two and our run game gets going to setup the PA to the TE’s. This game will show us what the Beavs are truly made of a give us a good bar for the rest of the season.
My preseason prediction for SC was a 38-24 loss but I would love to be wrong. Really wish we had Reser at full capacity for this one. Loudest game at Reser I’ve been to was in ‘08 when they were #1 and we beat ‘em. Week 1 against Boise State was still super loud despite the 27k limit, not sure if it translated to TV but I was surprised.
Solid win today and going to Rice Eccles 4-0 would be something special. Nice to finally be able to have a relaxing game where we crush an inferior opponent. Paying for a ticket and driving to the game and sitting in traffic on the way home after losing to Sac State is something I never want to experience ever again lmao.
Hope Musgrave is healthy and the WR’s continue to catch the ball.
Well, I’d say ya have a good shot at going 1 for 2; Musgrave won’t be back per all reports.
USC hasn’t been in pressure situations yet, nor have they been punched in the mouth by any team yet.
They are going to be similar to Carrolls teams but more like a travel all star team. I think Williams is good to great but does get careless/greedy at times. In pressure situations he will call his own number and run . Plan for it.
All of the offensive stars will get frustrated in a tight game when they can’t be flashy and prance around.
They have had 3-4 pick 6 and I expect the Beavs offense doesn’t make the same bad turnovers.
USC is attempting to create an image of overwhelming talent and track meet offense as a form of program/conference propaganda when they may be an average defense with above average offense.
My concern would be:
USC gets benefit of the doubt on ref judgment calls because they are perceived as the flagship again.
League office desires an undefeated USC go to the playoffs.
Beavs get caught up in the smoke and mirrors imagery of the Mighty Trojans 2.0
USC has added 40 4/5 star free agents and will simply be more talented but I don’t believe that means they can’t be beaten.
I want to see how USC deals with adversity rather than being front runners.
Agree on the free agents/not a proven team point. Nobody knows what they will do if they face adversity. This Fresno game has been instructive, as they are basically on the same level as the Beavs. They actually played well at times, moved the ball, made some big plays. But this just shows that ANY MISTAKE that kills a drive is absolute death for your chances. Again, they’ve played pretty well, but are being toyed with like a golden retriever with a chew toy. Playing at home will be a big difference, I expect the crowd to be amped and to be a factor. Vegas will set this line at 14 though and for good reason.
“I want to see how USC deals with adversity rather than being front runners.”
This requires the opposing team to be adverse towards them; if the score consistently stays close, that will apply the kind of pressure that can result in opportunities.
Having the game in PDX was a nice treat. Had great seats and they were pretty cheap. Atmosphere was good, lots of crowd nouse. DJ music playing non-stop was a bit much, but a minor complaint.
Would be nice if they could play PSU as a “road” game every other year while having the 2 other non-con games at home, but that’s wishful thinking. Could be beneficial to both programs though if they can work out a good revenue sharing agreement.
The last time I was in Portland for a Beaver game was when Joe Capp was the coach of Cal and I believe we happened to win that one, too. I had considered going to Portland for this game, but only for a minute, as Ted Wheeler’s outstanding leadership as Mayor has made downtown Portland a place to avoid; at all costs – right up there with Seattle. I hope everyone that ventured in to Portlandia made it out safely after the game last night.
The people of Oregon decriminalizing all hard drugs has been a disaster. Who could have seen that one coming???
That being said, last night went pretty smoothly from our perspective. Nothing scary. Beaver and Bobcat fans around us seemed to be having a great time too
We drove up from Bend – stayed two nights right downtown–no sketchiness around us either night. Maybe we were lucky? We never go to home games-can’t find a hotel and we like to party.
ESPN’s FPI is so worthless. Arizona State moved up after losing to #120 Eastern Michigan, who moved down after the win. Notre Dame is #25 while sitting at 1-2.
First!
We need to see a dominant run game, no dropped passes, some sacks, some forced turnovers and a good game from Nolan. We know what we have in Fenwick lets see some more Martinez and Jam. Need to take a large early lead to get the back ups and young guys some valuable playing time.
Beavs win 42-17!
This is not considered a fumble in eugene
https://twitter.com/nocontextcfb/status/1571266780924116997
Kind of like that “offsides” call against Cal at the Cal ND game….
Git some. Beavs win!!! Martinez becomes quiz 3.0
44-17 Beavs
Their QBs run on us a bit but we contain them for the most part and Fenwick has his coming out party.
#GoBeavs
OSU 38, Montana State 24
Excellent clock management to start us off.
41-13 Beavs
Anyone have a stream link?
streameast.io
It’s just showing the Uw-Kent State game for some reason
Requires a credit card?
LFG!
looks like they tried to warm up Harrison with some easy catches to start the game.
Martinez doing work
Nice drive for the beavs. Pac network still sux but actually enjoying the intimacy of the smaller venue. If this gets more people juiced for the beavs calling it a win
time to make an early statement
this looks like a Banker dual threat QB defense
Somebody wake up Bray, NOW
Two qb sets and all kinds of bon standard looks
Montana State using the A-11 offense?
MSU QB averaging 8 yards a carry
It’s really a Beaver tradition at this point
another 8
Qb runs, everyone. How many snaps can their qb(s) take those hits?
Parker says “in theory” Bray should have prepared the D for these QB’s
and another 8 for a TD
Yucky D.
so, the Offense must see early that they are going to have to play well to win tonight
big pick-up there. this is going to be a dog-fight
Harrison has shown up early
But, but Harrison makes the catch at the 3
Colletto
We’re only on pace for 800 yards of offense. We need to do better!
MILF Hammer just crushed an olb on that block.
Harrison another catch, BIG JIM says, “it blows my mind that PI wasn’t called”
Another unsportsmanlike foul, lame
Second one in as many minutes
Agreed! I was saying the same thing. Good on Harrison to nullify the need.
Nice touch on that rainbow
Harrison is on fire tonight. Good thing too because OSU might have to score almost every possession
Gotta cover that 15.5 pt line!
Not almost every possession…every possession.
Harrison is such a goon.
Hey we caught the ball.
TWICE
People like to knock Hayes, but he’s never missed an XP. Don’t take that for granted.
you jinxed him!
I’m pretty sure he has.
Kick off coverage has sucked tonite
Good day for the PAC. UW smoking MSU.
Int!
Bobcats are going to keep moving the ball. But can they avoid injuries and/or turnovers?
Will be interesting to see what adjustments Bray makes.
But yeah can’t figure their qbs can tote the rock every play and remain intact
Nice int! Even the announcer called it early.
Harrison another nice catch
Then Lindsey, and then Overman
Wrs actually making plays tonite
Overran doing his Musgrave impression
Beav Offense looks unstoppable
Nolan wants some of Hammer’s MILF action?
They just can’t match up with our wideouts right now and Nolan is slingin’!!
Like i said earlier, kick coverage sucks
What the hell was that!?
Least surprising thing ever, kickoff coverage has been shaky all season. It’s embarrassing we can’t find someone to kick it out of the endzone every single time.
Yes, sucked all season, tonite has been suck cubed
Bruce Read newest consultant?
Wtf trick bounce play
Dribbling down the field.
Bolden is sick fast, unfortunate penalty
Well, this is fun
Maybe we should join the Big Sky.
We’re already Mountain West champs
Wrs making up for last 2 weeks crappy games, Bolden td
Nolan 13 of 16 attempts, 210 yds.
Weird how his numbers look better when wrs catch the ball
Grant laying lumber…how long will their qbs enjoy running
Now we see why the qbs run every down
Their wrs don’t come back on come back routes?
Thats a don’t come back route
Beavs might have the best secondary in the PAC-12.
So when do we put the 2’s in?
Harrison, Bolden, now Gould…hope this game gives the wrs some juice
Lol I jinxed Hayes
I thought he missed it too, announcer said he made it…oh yep, he did in fact miss it
he was hurt by the short uprights. In Corvallis that might hit the upright and bounce through it
He’s missed them previously.
So we are now entering the stage if the game where we are playing to our strength. Since we are up so big now they are now having to throw the ball more which is showing they are not competent in.
Gebbia or Gulbranson in the second half?
Gulbranson
Whoever is going to be the QB if Nolan gets hurt.
I had the Beavs at 45 points, 3 passing TDs, and 3 rushing TDs…for the game. They might do it in the first half…
Samezies
Yep
Up three scores and still passing…that foot on the throat thing may have been discussed afterall
is this 4th down country?
Is it in the continental US?
Sweep the leg
Kicker and kick coverage need much improvement..
Otherwise great first half.
Who is this dude at half time with the ginormous forehead?
Hayes is a problem if we want a magical season. Noted him as a possible problem in the pre-season. Just too inconsistent.
Ya I was hoping to c improvement. Hasnt he been kicking since his freshman year.
Ugly first half on special teams. Shouldn’t be this bad 3 games in.
Unable to watch but seems like the sp have been terrible the first half. Can Cookus?
He’s in Alaska, moose don’t generate enough gigabit per second
Yeah, coverage has been terrible, Hayes is iffy, shame considering all the other improvements
I think Hayes is still dealing with an injury but if it’s hindering him this bad, might as well give the backup a shot.
Open another tool in the Swiss army, Colletto new kicker!!
He already said he definitely can’t do kicking. “It’s not how my body is built” paraphrasing.
Late to the party…..:
Extremely disappointed in BYU. Nailed it with Cal covering though. ND is a joke.
#10 Arkansas of the mighty SEC down 10 in the 4th quarter to a FCS team coached by Bobby Petrino. What a day.
Nice defensive stand and GOULD for td!
Well this is fun
Maybe we should join the Big Sky.
How long has it been since we scored on special teams? Seems like 10 years or more.
Wow now I’m concerned about our XP kicking
Hayes has been the lottery since he came here.
He just missed his first one tonight.
It’s just weird that after going multiple years with no XP misses, we had two kickers miss them in the same game.
Blame the venue?
First punt return touchdown since 2015.
That was Sappington on the missed PAT. Apparently we are just not reliable from any distance in any situation right now. Concerning for the next two weeks.
Defense needs to learn how to step on the throat
Needs to learn to deal with mobile QB’s
As if one was bad enough, we’re having to deal with two!
MSU QB Mellott is averaging 10 yards a carry. And I thought 8 was a lot
even with a 19 point lead this is an important possession
Beavs have made a mess of better-looking situations before
At least one part of special teams is working
How is it after 120 years we still haven’t learned how to stop a mobile QB?
Their kicker took a great angle. Bolden gonna get a ribbing though
1:18, 3 plays to TD after KO return, and…….wait for it……XP kick is good, by Sappington
Good to see students in the stands making some noise
Can we please sub out the starters now?
No. 4th quarter
Gould is everywhere tonight.
Yup, and in the endzone too, XP good again by Sappington 54-21
Velling!
We really can’t find guys that can hit XP’s?
How about keeping a kick off in bounds? Sweet geebus
Gulbranson getting ready
Gould again. D holding up. End of 3rd. Up 30+. Time for the 2s to get some work
Really digging deep on kickers and we can’t even kick off in bounds
Gulbranson sighting!
#2’s take over on the O-line
Looking pretty good so far
Except Kipper.
Did anyone hear, what happened with Marco?
Man, who are these kids playing right now?…oop, another 6…jam for a td
When’s the last time we scored 60 in a game?
77 awhile back against Nicholls St during the Riley era.
Jam looked fast there.
Foot, meet throat
3 XP’s in a row for Sappington, 61-21
Nolan 6 of 6 on deep passes tonight
This McCormick guy needs to not do KO’s anymore
Put of bounds kick again…wtf! Run someone else the fuck out there to kick
*out
I think he’s an emergency kicker or something if I heard right. In that case see what u got.
Mascarenas filling up the stat sheet. One tackle away from leading the team.
Hodgins name called, first for the game?
Nolan is like Oprah tonight. “You get a touchdown! and You get a touchdown!”
Their wr makes a catch and styling like he just made a game winner…what a doob. He forgot to look at the scoreboard
Guessing we’ll see some qb runs next week
Williams is going to torch our D. I have no evidence to the contrary.
Their ones still have to resort to qb looking to sideline while other qb runs under center to beat beavs 2/3s for td…beavs rolling
Odd question about a blow out win, but do you feel better about this team after this game? Between kicking and Mobile QB issues I’m not sure I do
I feel better about:
Defense ability to adjust
Wrs CAN actually catch
Depth
Concerns:
Special teams coverage
Kicking (pat, fg, kickoffs)
Running qb that can pass will kill this team
Gulbranson got some wheels
Great win. We’d never win like this in the past…
We’d never hear the phrase “step on their throat” in the past. Maybe from GA, but not without having a good laugh.
From GA we’d hear, “Step on their tequila! Then give it to me…and my cheerleader girlfriend who I impregnated! So I can impregnate her again! Jump in on this, Seth!”
Or something like that.
This might be my worst comment ever.
No “might” about it!
Reaching
Its difficult to score 67 points, no matter the opponent, I’ve seen enough ‘should have won’ games go south, this team has made a turn
Good focus. Playing time for backups on O. Lots of teaching moments for Bray to use during the week. Not sure what to think of kickers.
Is this true? Any other media have 3-0?
https://twitter.com/angrybeavs/status/1571335996582596610
Here’s what I called first four games:
Boise St – W
@Fresno St – W
Montana St – W
USC – L (not in coaching disarray this season, loaded with talented free agents who’ve had 3 games to warm up, and a coach who can apparently lead. Beavs lose a close one. Damn.)
But yeah, guessing most media had either BSU or Fresno State as a loss…
Anyone watching sc v freno
No, but they’re up 14-0 in the 1st. I’m still unsure who I’m picking in that game next week. I had the Beavs in the pre-season, but that QB could be a nightmare.
yup
not happy so far
Yes. Running qb scores. Usc is jamming the football down fresnos throat. Usc oline is blowing Fresnos d off the ball. Definitely not the USC of the last few years.
How do we beat USC?
1. Home crowd (though it’s somewhat neutered by the construction)
2. Trick play that works
3. Colletto gets at least 1 TD from the jackhammer formation.
4. Balanced offense. I don’t think we can run much on them.
5. Special team big play – kick/punt return
6. Somehow stop that QB
I mean if we do all 6 that should do it. Anyone else have an opinion on what it would take to beat USC?
It’s going to come down to our Defense. They make some stops we have a chance. Probably the only chance.
Use misdirection to make rushes work, don’t pass more than 50%, control clock……gotta limit SC offensive opportunities.
We’ll know more after tonights game in LA
Can the d stop Williams? I’m not sure we have the speed. Maybe Fischer spies him.
Williams has Dye and some good play calling on his side, along with good receivers. Spy will help some, but I think it’ll come down to Beavs being error free all night with good clock management. Somehow limit SC opportunities, thus smart use of clock.
No way Beavs win with tonights kicking game.
Maybe Julian instead?
You left out our secondary! We need to get some turnovers/short fields with our ball hawking secondary.
Divine intervention
https://youtu.be/0Ae6B7C05Nk
Score on every drive, and don’t miss XP’s
The opossum returns is the only way I see us winning next week.
Well Fresno is in the redzone in like 5 plays so maybe they don’t have a great D?
It’s not great but pretty fast and improved. Their QB is basically their team.
Yes, and of course he’s OSU bugaboo. Maybe we get lucky. Not that confident though.
Fox announcers busy gargling everything $c
that was the kind of beat down of a Big Sky team that Riley teams routinely failed to deliver, and often lost
I saw that we were without Chatfield and Golden today. That’s a big deal. I wonder if they were banged up and coaches decided to rest them for next week.
I thought I saw golden. Saw brewer was out not sure if that was at the beginning or happened in game.
Brewer went out in 3rd qtr of Fresno game with injured knee.
Lincoln Riley and Smith must be step brothers. Not far into second quarter and Riley has gone for it 4th down at least 3 times already this game.
USC is too good. Beavs would have to win 61-58 or something which is pretty unlikely. Goal should be to play solid, keep it within 14 and not get anyone hurt. Utah will be the crossroads game.
Beavs ranked after this?
Probably not. Not many losses inside the top 25, plus other big wins by teams like UW. Beat USC and they will be, haha.
Hope not
Fresno just scored…trojan d is not impenetrable. But their o is scary good, maybe williams misses the plane week? week?
The offense is Pete Carrol era good. Only way to beat them is to play perfect on offense, control the clock with the run, and hope their offense makes a key mistake like a pick 6. Not completely impossible but we’re talking like a 10% probability.
What if Quizz secretly suits up?
Their offense is good. But I think we have a better defense than Fresno. I think Beav fans are freaking out a bit much. SC finally punts, after a 14yd sack, leaving them with 4th and 33. Fresno starts at their 5. Here is where a long drive, using clock to get to the half with more points will be key.
Well, 3 and out……….best laid plans.
Fresno should have gone for it on 4th and 1 there. They’ll give up a TD now anyway.
Fresno getting to Williams now…
They’re doing it with a 3 man rush, is their DB corps the reason?
Fresno d stiffens, if we can get that pressure…
Fresno has sack the USC qb like 4 times
QB got sloppy and greedy just holding the ball. They have zero concerns and are just toying with Fresno.
If you watched him at Oklahoma last year, he did that often and it led to turnovers or big losses due to sacks. Hoping for a few of those next weekend to stall their drives.
I’m not sure what the Beavs can do to stop USC’s offense except play zone and keep everything in front. Addison may have to be double teamed.
Something I’ve noticed w/ Lincoln Riley’s teams at Oklahoma is that they stagnate mid third quarter. Beavs just have to be patient and opportunistic
Brutal injury for Haener. Really too bad. Love the way that guy plays, reminds me of Drew Brees
Fresno hanging in there but Haener is done after that. They better hope the backup is capable. USC d line scares me.
Petros Papadakis is calling the Arizona game tonight after he called the Boise St game this afternoon. Must be working from home.
Strange to see a Beavers game end so early…i mean, AND they win.
Hopefully they earn a decent start time next Saturday.
Already announced, 6:30pm
So, SC #6 losses helmet but doesn’t have to sit out a play?
Facemask penalty negates having to sit out.
Bray has to call the game of his life next week and the DBs have to have short memories and get some TO’s…Bray may look like the weak link.
Is Julian healthy enough to be a factor?
It’s all on the offense to keep pace and control clock. The D just has to play bend don’t break and not give up the huge play. If they force a TO that’s gravy. It will take a perfect performance by the offense.
We will need to limit penalties and win TOP. If our defense gets gassed against SC it will be a long day. Fenwick had 9 carries with a 7 yard avg per carry tonight. Maybe he’s really tall?
Fresno scores quick! Not giving up yet!
ASU down 10 to Eastern Michigan

Beaver and Bobcat fans around us seemed to be having a great time too
As you just pointed out, a lot of what people say about downtown Portland is exaggerated.
We drove up from Bend – stayed two nights right downtown–no sketchiness around us either night. Maybe we were lucky? We never go to home games-can’t find a hotel and we like to party.
Arizona ends North Dakota State’s reign
Morning after PFF. Relative rankings mean a little
more now that everyone has played their cupcake games.
Nolan is the now the top P5 passer in the country, #2 overall and #4 QB (Gopher QB is a better runner, apparently).
Martinez top rated Beav RB by a wide margin now.
OL ratings continue to go down (except Fuaga).
Mascarenas now the top rated Beav LB (though competition surely has something to do with that).
Gopher QB is only slightly better runner than yours truly… so no…
ESPN’s FPI is so worthless. Arizona State moved up after losing to #120 Eastern Michigan, who moved down after the win. Notre Dame is #25 while sitting at 1-2.
Just waking up and I gotta say “GO BEAVS!” Go pound the trojans!
Beavs will need to fix kicking game and penalty problems before USC. Less pass drops will help too.
Herm Edwards fired at ASU.
Start poaching.
The score in this win doesn’t reflect the need for all three phases to be executing consistently. It wasn’t quite there yet.
I think this team will need this to happen for the difficult parts of the schedule.
I liked that the WRs + TEs made several clutch receptions.
Too many 3rd & long?
Defense produced turnovers; when they weren’t disciplined, it was rough.
Special teams can not allow other team to take to ball to house.
Nice to feature Gulbranson in a series — clearly more a pocket passer. Unlike Chance, demonstrated awareness to slide.
