Curious to hear if you guys think there’s any demand/need for an AB podcast, radio program, or any other type of multimedia.
Fielding any/all ideas on improving the site.

I think a podcast is brilliant- mainly because it’s an another avenue to get information out there, plus, if other people get involved from here with some of their insights (even Jack’s ramblings) you’d find AB having even more credibility if you can *gasp* get an interview with players, coaches, or even someone else with clout.
I was thinking about setting up a podcast to start out with, then maybe eventually branching to a weekly radio show where people can call in, if there was demand for that. It’s easy to talk into a mic and spew opinions, but hard to learn how how to field questions.
If you look under “interviews”, you’ll see I interviewed players in the past, but I think if it were audio format it would be much easier to get them on. (It was pretty easy to get the guys on in the past, but I just got lazy and felt creepy writing them on twitter asking for interviews).
Angry,
I have been followin ya for years and saw some of the interviews you were able to shake out of people- but I think taking in the audio from anyone, even if it’s fluff stuff with Massari that talks about what the Athletic Department is doing differently to promote the beaver brand, for example, would allow you to get more difficult questions out there next time. And if someone heard a rational discussion maybe the label of crazed dissenter (which even my family viewed my criticism of Riley for years) might drop away from the like minds. Either way I’d love to help from a writing/research standpoint.
exactly. We could attack the “you can’t recruit or win in Corvallis” narrative and fuck it right in the pussy
Jameis Winston approves of that message.
I’d listen to it. I like the podcast idea better than radio so people can listen whenever they want
I like the idea. then we can ask the hard hitting questions the lazy media is too scared to ask
Coach, tell us how you really feel about a player knocking up your daughter.
Vic? What bonehead move to you actually make to get suspended? Again?
granted the first one is past tense but you get the idea
Hey man keep quiet about that! I’m trying to sort of gloss this whole thing over. Seriously your the first on any site today to mention it.
If nobody says anything, maybe they’ll forget about the DUI (ACCUSATION!) And I can get back out there! Been working on a sweet little inside jump hook too dang!!
been hittin the reefer today Vic?
Yeah, we’d have to separate it from the regular media somehow, and asking real questions is the obvious way. But who would come on such a show? It would have to be marketed in a clever way, like you need brass balls to go on the AB show.
you could be a modern day Jim Rome
OT, but Bill Enyart died of cancer today. Always liked talking Beavs football with him.
I know it’s OT, but who in God’s name would negative a post about “Earthquake” Enyart dying?
Probably just a negative on the fact that it’s sad news.
Yes
I’ll be the first interview about getting back on track and being a leader this time. This could be my moment! I need to own it!!!
I’d listen to it for sure
interesting idea. As noted above, it would enhance the role and visibility of the site, and burnish your reputation as a journalist. Doing so, on the other hand, would seem inevitably to come at the cost of your anonymity. Your call. I would recommend that it appear as a link within a standard thread, rather than having to go to some other URL to find it.
I think its a great idea. The benefit is obvious but you would have to make judgement about the costs of your time and energy. It would definitely elevate your “brand” here and it could also be some fun at the same time. I say experiment – I know I would listen. Things may be slow now, but once the season rolls around there’s no short of content to discuss.
I would pay to listen to a whiskey podcast
While you may have the money, have ya got the time for a Jack podcast?
He could be the first guest.
The Jack podcast would be a fantastic deal. You’d get ten hosts in one!
I resemble that remark.
So do I.
that my friend would be a slippery slope.
“The Whiskey Soaked Podcast”
“Tales from the trailer”
Beavs currently anywhere from 66th to 71st in RPI (depending on which site you peruse).
A road win over a higher RPI team as UCLA would certainly help the cause. A loss to USC could be the dagger. At any rate, the NCAA tourney is still a long shot unless these guys can earn a pair of road splits and hold serve at home. But if they just hold serve at home, the NIT is a very realistic possibility. Only teams higher in RPI the beavs have games left against are………….4 of 7. A loss at USC would hurt
UCLA (46)
Utah (11)
Stanford (44)
Oregon (58)
Colorado (107)
USC (174)
CAL (105)

Also- never underestimate the power of the phrase “you heard it here, first” …I see you, Angie Machado. And honestly I think podcasts with editorials that blast the negative bullshit the media spews about Oregon State or the continual nut licking ESPN does for the SEC would be great.
I’d definitely listen to an AB podcast. It could be useful for game previews and/or post game reviews. Another step to help improve OSU athletics.
Just noticed Cliff Kirkpatrick is back covering local sports, this time for the Salem Statesman Journal. I guess the dirty south was a bad fit?
That’s funny. I wonder why Alabama would have wanted him covering their sports anyway. Did he have any tie to them?
I’d love to hear an AB podcast. One thing I’d recommend is not setting a weekly fixed schedule or anything so rigid, lest you end up breathing into a microphone to fill up air time. Record new ones only when there’s something worth talking about.
I haven’t been on the same page with a few things going on around here lately, but on the whole, I love this site, I read it every day, and I really appreciate the work you put in to keep it running angry. I know a year or two ago, you were talking about shuttering the site or selling it off to someone else…. glad you’ve kept it going and are re-enthused about it.
I think that could be a great idea. I suggest looking for key issues and/or when you can get some key person to agree to an interview. Done right it could be a hot item.
Recording new podcasts only when there is something worth talking about would certainly accomplish the goal of separating it from the regular media!!
The irregular non-schedule might drive eyes here to see when a new podcast was planned.
The non-sched would also let Angry take off for shooting or soap making whenever news was slow.
That’s the thing, I wouldn’t want to force it, so an irregular schedule is probably best. I’m trying to think what would be worthy of recording vs writing. Interviews are an obvious one…
In addition to interviews, maybe an occasional small panel discussion of predictions. You could get into the thinking behind predictions. A total of 2 or 3 participating in such a panel would have plenty of opportunity to outline the basis of their prediction.
A target length of less than 12 or 15 minutes would probably work given what Beaver Banter does with around 20 minutes.
Yeah that’s not a bad idea. Maybe for bigger games. Or maybe during football season on a Tuesday I can release a prediction via audio. That will depend how deeply I follow the team. The last few years not too deeply b/c Riley bored me to death, and I turned out. It became harder to predict things, and I didn’t even know some of the starters names…like if you asked me who the starting DTs were last year I wouldn’t know. I think Delva? And some other guy…not sure. That’s where I had gotten to with Riley…
A few years before that I could name all 85 players and their spot on the depth chart.
Another thought, a special in the Fall and Spring with Silver and Afghan giving their scouting reports and fielding questions from Angry (or even questions submitted ahead of time by AB’ers).
Similar to wannabeav below. It’s a good idea.
I haven’t seen Silver lately. I have his email. I’ll write him and see what’s up.
I like OOB’s idea, Angry. For example, let’s say you see some interesting posts during and after a game on Saturday/Sunday. You pick a few guys who maybe went to the game or have an interesting take, and then invite them to form a panel and you interview them, or they interview each other. Sorta like Dick Schaap used to do with the Sports Reporters in its hey-day. One of the best all time sports shows. Just imagine an Angry Beav version of that.
I’m way stoked for the spinoff of the AB podcast: CrossFire w/ Jack and PBH.
It’d be super cheap to produce… only need to buy one mic.
Well I record music as a main hobby, so I have a large collection of mics/audio gear. I could produce a fairly pro-sounding podcast just in my apt.
Was trying to make a joke… :(

CraigBeav has a cool idea. Above I riffed on an AB version of “Sports Reporters.” Now an AB version of “Cross Fire”. There could be an AB version (serially, of course, not every week) of “McLaughlin Group,” “Meet the Press,” “Media Buzz,” etc. Great sendups, and you pick your roster from your favorite posters here.
