Probably not using my best judgment by writing this post, but I figure while on the topic of sour grapes might as well air all grievances.

Okay, so my history with all things Beavers and the internet goes something like this: raucous man-child, bored and surfing the net at work, joins the beaverblitz community after a fellow bored buddy found the site and passed it along. Excited to find fellow Beavs on the net, said man-child starts posting opinions on the site’s message board. The posts become more opinionated as he settles into the community and feels comfortable. Cantankerous old farts start yelling at the man-child, known as CastorNation, because he said the Beavers “have WAC corners”. Hey, that’s what they were playing like. Anyway, shortly thereafter, the man-child makes additional comments critiquing poor play, discussing average recruiting classes, pointing out coaching pratfalls, etc. Angie Machado steps in and tells him to stop stirring the community or he’ll be banned; Steve Sanner writes him emails asking him to conform; “”JPTheBeaver” and his posse of old cantankerous farts who post on the forum, known as “the lodge”, all pat one another on the back and cheer the lynching–apparently the internet is a Beaver eat Beaver world. A few days later I’m permanently banned from the forum. Why? For dissent. When parrying with Sanner via email I explained it was like walking on egg shells over there and I couldn’t conform. He asked me to give it a shot and they’d reinstate me yada yada, but even after his lecture and their reinstatement I didn’t know what I could/not say, and every remark I made was misconstrued and misinterpreted by the masses with the intent of building a rap-sheet so they could go to Mama Beav, Angie Machado, and have her ban me a second time. She’s gutless and cares about the money (now that Rival$ is owned by Yahoo), and fearing she’d lose the grumpy old fart members if I stuck around she went ahead and executed the threatened ban. I can’t read their forums anymore. Why? Because I had an opinion and expressed it in a way they didn’t like. These were fellow Beaver fans ostracizing a Beaver. What amazed me about the entire situation was not how worked up they’d get, but rather that they’d pat one another on the back for being these great well-rounded fans who welcome anyone and everyone into their “family”…yet, at the first sign of dissent…gone. Amazing.

Now on to scout.com. They haven’t banned me. In fact, they let me post on their forums. BUT…while I used to be able to post there freely, they now have a message come up “Moderator must approve post” etc before it shows up. Half my statements over there never make it to print. When trying to get signatures for the petition they wouldn’t let me bump or comment in the thread I made about the subject.

Not all is bad. I have to say, Cliff Kirkpatrick is the best. The guy let’s me post freely in his blog, shoots straight, has spot-on opinions, and doesn’t sugar coat a word. Buker is good as well, though he lifted a paragraph from me and that pisses me off, but fuck it, he’s good.

Sure, this diatribe probably sounds like sour grapes, but honestly I’m glad it went down the way it did because now I don’t have to dance around those assholes’ eggshells and read their dimwit, orange-coated opinions (hello Peter71, I’m talking to you and your self-deprecating “jokes”: are you fat? Really? I haven’t heard that one yet…this nanosecond). They’re all delusional, obsessive, controlling, miserable old farts patting each other on the back. The queen Beav, Machado, is practically retarded. She’s the site’s main publisher and she can’t get three sentences in print without a typo, punctuation error, or grammatical butchery (this is where someone points out all the errors in this blog–hey, I don’t proof or edit these things, and I don’t get paid). Her “Giant Killer” award uses 1st grade methodology: “Keaton Kristick made nine tackles and each tackle is 1 point so he had 9 points and he wins the award.” Meanwhile, Dockery has 6 picks but they too are only worth a point! Great stuff.

Why am I posting this now? Because people keep asking me “angry, who are you? why are you so angry? etc etc”…figured I’d remove some of the mystery. Also, the petition made me realize that if fans come together they can do wonderful things, and it simultaneously amazes and disgusts me that people let emotion (aimed at me) stand in the way of a solid cause. If I were able to post the petition over at beaverblitz we’d have 200 signatures. That kind of indignation fires me up.

Jerks.

Anyway, if you post on beaverblitz, you should link them to this blog, and more specifically this post, so they can all gather around and flap each others’ tails like the gay (not that there’s anything wrong with that), cantankerous Beavers that they are.

  1. You and Cliff actually read comments and make subsequent comments without sarcasm and grand standing. I used to love Scout, but now it bores me. The endless battles with Duck fans got old real fast. I like reading criticism. Keep up the good work.

  2. This is true. Criticism in the right frame of mind is nothing more than genuine, no-BS “Hey, look at it from this angle.” You might just come out stronger. Besides, a fan that analyzes and critiques is just as much a fan, if not more. Liken it to the players themselves; they are constantly criticized, isn’t that what a coach is for? The 12th man should be active.

While I haven’t followed this for long, I see you as a true fan with meaningful ‘criticism’, continue your work!

    • Fuck ’em. And I love the fact I can say Fuck ’em…no censorship, yay! I think you’re gaining a nice following here, and this site seriously wins the “I told you so” award every time we happen to lose. There are some serious problems that come up in the Beavers’ camp, and it’s about time a fan actually had something to say rather than suck on an orange and black teat.

I still want to get more of your insight to the USC game. I told you we had a chance man ;), we just gave up some stupid plays in the earlier stages of the games. We should have expected to get boned by the refs, and that’s what a good team does- beats another team even with zebras on their side.

Keep up the good work, Angry. Machado is a moron.

      • No I wound up agreeing that we had a chance versus USC but I thought we’d ultimately lose. The problem I have is that every week I want to pick the Beavs to win but I can’t always find a cause or reason to do so. I wound up convincing myself of things that weren’t true when we played Cincy just so I could pick the Beavers, but in my gut I knew that was a loss. Trying to avoid that kind of thing.

  3. I must say I do not often agree with you, but I visit your site to make sure I see more than just my side of things. I find you sometimes overly critical, but in that I also admit that I am not often critical enough. I also admit that I lived through the 28 year non winning streak so I am very happy with our current situation so I may see much through Orange colored glasses. I swore to myself in the early 90s when Nebraska fans were complaining about losing January 1 bowl games that “I will not do that. I would be so glad to get to a bowl game in the first place.” And I have held true to that. After all those years of having to watch other teams play in late December and Jan 1 (when the bowl season ended on Jan 1), it is a joy to root for the Beavers that late in the college football season. But that does not discredit what you are doing, so long as you keep the attacks from being personal and more focused on the work, and I see you doing that. Being banned is wrong. If others do not like what you say, then they are not forced to read it, they can pass over it. Not that excited about the profanity, but I also can choose to skip over it or skip your site altogether if it is too frequent. Good work trying to get changes made. Thank you for making sure the Orange tint does not prevent us (me) from seeing the shortcomings.

    • Fair enough.

As far as profanity, I try to stay away from it, but I also try to choose the “best word”, and sometimes it’s unfortunately profane.

Regarding your other point: where do you feel I was overly critical?

  4. Maybe not relevant to this post but must vent my disappointment and disguist somewhere. The absence of the Beaver defensive ends and pass
rush has cost us big time this season! The way I see they are primarily responsible for all four losses, throw Kristick in the mix too, he is the most over-rated linebacker in the PAC-10!!! OSU was lucky enough to get
some class offensive players but have not recruited defensive personell
but more or less relying working up so-so greyshirts but we are going to be taken out behind the shed again by Oregon for not having big strong
guys on the corners defensivily, this must be resolved by getting
some decent people to play defense. Let us stop this non-sense of
trying to recruit strictly offense and get some quality defensive ends
for a change, speed, strength and atlheticism are requirements for those
positions. Those traits are glaringly absent on the 2009 Beaver team.
By the way is Paea still on the team? Sure do not hear much of him!!

    • The irony is that the fastest DE we have (Taylor Henry) got a sack the 1 game he played, and he hasn’t seen the field since (at least not that I’ve noticed). Not sure why he’s not playing more. Also, anyone else notice Frahm at DE for the critical 3rd down pass that sealed the game?

I feel like a broken record but Frahm should not be on the field.

Yes, when I say “criticism” I mean it in almost the literary sense. I get so tired of seeing people blasted for their posts on other sites. Everyone’s thoughts seem to be treated with respect here.

Regarding Paulscpa’s post…I too am a long time Beaver fan who suffered through the “dark ages”. I also am conflicted about the Beaver’s recent success because (and I’ve been blasted for this), I think as some point soon Riley needs to be held accountable if the slow starts continue. It almost seems like it has become acceptable (almost cute) that those darn Beavs always start slow and then come on strong. I say if we have the talent to compete at a high level when are we going to start strong and stay strong to be in the BCS mix and get that national exposure? Am I out to lunch on this?

I hate to harp on recruiting but…

Riley is great at many things, but recruiting is not one of them. I think he holds the team back in spring/fall camps because the team never has PAC-10 depth at every position, and that is due to poor recruiting. If Kristick goes down, Kreb isn’t exactly a PAC-10 caliber LB behind him. Same with Quiz…he was nurtured all spring because McCants and Stevenson don’t appear to be featured backs. So Riley does a balancing act of trying to get guys ready while also trying to keep guys healthy as he simply does not have the depth. I’d love to see the scholarships wasted on Krebs, Frahm, McAndrews, et al. spent on some JC depth or just higher caliber athletes who could be viable backups. I think it would make the team better from a purely athletic standpoint, but also because the team would be able to go 100% in camp and come out of the gate stronger.

That’s a good point about JC guys. I think you need the occasional one or two at key positions who can play right way. I get tired of the good student, good citizen cliches. Let’s get real, college football is big business if nothing else. Never bothered Dennis Erickson to find the JC guy who could be an impact player.

The Beavers have recruited JC guys. Ben Terry (worthless), Sioeli Nau (never plays), Brent McNeil (left team), Reggie Dunn (grades), Simi Kuli (who knows), etc etc. They just don’t do it well.

I wasn’t pointing this one out on purpose. I was having problems posting. So I restarted my computer and went back in the archives to October just to test it.

It was a coincidence that I found this site, and I figured I would mark it since it was relevant.

It’s still not posted on Blitz. So it means nothing as far as taunting is concerned. If they read this blog that means they know they lack something at the other. They just can’t bring themselves to admit it, and their self-hatred is all they can project on their comments.
