Home Football Players to Build Around

Players to Build Around

313

After watching the game last night, which players do you feel will be instrumental in this rebuild?

To me, these skill players stood out on offense:

  1. Collins
  2. Nall
  3. Togiai
  4. Garretson

Villamin should be in the mix since he’s only a Junior, but he didn’t show up. I’d list him as a guy you can build around. Pierce and Lucas weren’t impressive to me.

What about D and OL? I thought Brandel played a good game.

A lot of the defenders looked good early on, but I wasn’t catching names. Aydon stood out (large, somewhat disruptive). Who stood out as a player/players the defense can be built around for several years?

On a side note, the OL in the pipeline aren’t very good. We all see OSU needs line help to get this thing turned around, but the linemen on the roster are not exciting. Brandel and Miki Fifita are the only nice looking prospects. Need at least 7 solid OL, and they have 2 once Andrews graduates. Hopefully Kearsley lives up to that 4-star talent once he takes the field. Bottom line is that we thought lack of a QB could derail GA’s rebuild, but it’s looking more and more like we have talent there with Garretson and Moran. Even Willard looks alright. But the lineman usually take several years to develop, and there aren’t many high ceiling underclassmen. Mackay and Wellsfry are two OL they got this cycle who might be thrown into the mix early. Beavs need to hit the JC market on both lines. Nicebeaver, any big OL/DL prospects on the radar?

    • Bradford might be worth a look on punt returns vs Idaho State. If they want to use Bolden on returns, I trust him more on kickoffs than punts.

  1. I think Bradford and Chappel should be on the list. Chappel did get juked once but otherwise showed potential and attitude.
Nice to see the staff utilize Toagai.

    • P: We all think about Michigan, Alabama, Ohio State and others as having the kinds of facilities that keep them a Top 10 program. But a night spent at TCF Bank Stadium makes you realize how far behind Oregon State and some others in the Pac 12 are even when it comes to the marginal teams in other conferences

Yikes, and that after our upgrades…

      • But how many years did the vikings play there? What’s the history on its build, was it tax payer funded? That alone would make a difference. I would think the rental by an nfl team brought in some huge money just to play games on it also.

        • Here goes. Team moves it’s games to try playing in what is the new Metrodump in downtown MPLS in ’82. It is considering doing renovations to old Memorial Stadium which was across the street from TCF. Lou Holtz gets hired and convinces the AD and administration that he can bring them back to the glory years and recruit any kid with a chance to play in a domed NFL stadium with guaranteed perfect conditions. So the move is permanent and the old stadium is torn down and all the history of seven national championships is flushed down the toilet. The little slimy bastard Holtz, bolts for ND after his second season, taking with him most of his recruiting class that played a major part in his national championship team at ND. Playing in the Metrodump sucked! They finally got a U president that was not indifferent or outwardly hostile to mens athletics and the ball got rolling in the early 2000’s to come back to campus.
The short story is that the state contributed 52% and the U 48%. Donations and naming rights came to approximately 65 million. The Vikings played there for two years and they did not make much money off of it. They paid for cold weather upgrades for concessions and bathrooms and heating coils under the turf. The legislature made them play nice with rent due to the state funding.
It is a fabulous facility that we are very proud of. TCF is an updated old school design that pays homage to old Memorial Stadium, “the Brick House.” The open end is situated to frame Williams Arena and the Minneapolis skyline.

          • There you go….52% tax payer money. You can do a lot with someone else’s cash. And I’m not bagging on minny here, but that would be nice for half the cost for upgrades to be taken care of. Imagine where OSU would be with double the money over the last 15 years.

          • They don’t claim anything about that year. We have the 1960 AP and UPI trophies. The AP, which is the standard, along with the UPI awarded the National Champioship at the end of the regular season. The bowls were not that big a deal and schools would turn down invitations because it would interfere with academics! Minnesota has four of the AP trophies.
“A number of other mathematical systems were born in the 1920s and 1930s and were the only organized methods selecting national champions until the Associated Press began polling sportswriters in 1936 to obtain rankings. Alan J. Gould, the creator of the AP Poll, named Minnesota, Princeton, and SMU tri-champions in 1935, and polled writers the following year, which resulted in a national championship for Minnesota.”

  2. I read that Kearsley was dealing with some personal issues during the offseason. Not sure what. It sounds maybe the early bye week could be very helpful for him to get into better shape and maybe move up the depth chart. That was my impression based on what I read about his situation.

  3. “any big OL/DL prospects on the radar?”

First off, I think we’re going to regret not signing any OL to the 2016 class. We had a few Hawaiian(Auwae, Herbig, Eletise) and 1 Samoan guy(Mauigoa) who we chased, but as soon as they turned us down, we didn’t have a backup in mind, since OL wasn’t a high priority in that class due to a high number of OL already on our roster.

Several injuries/medical retirements later, and now we’re more than a year away from adding any new blood to our OL in terms of freshman. This year(2017) we have a few guys already on board, although the biggest targets have all gone elsewhere or already eliminated us. (Shear, Kirkland, Banks) plus one of our commits, Kratz, decided to leave the country rather than stay for football. That stings…

As far as guys on the radar, give me a little time and I’ll put together a list of guys to watch. There are some local 2017 guys who I think we could very easily pick up (Quazzel White) but their current offer sheet would make you think they’re more of a project, than an instant contributor.

Agree that JUCO help is necessary. I really think we should be spending this year getting the young guys as many reps as possible, as a means to strengthen our line 2 years down the road. I really think we should keep Yanni at center, so he has the chance to grow. This was just his first game, and he did have some low snaps, but overall he played as expected, and I think the chance to make mistakes in a game is the only thing that will help him improve. I’m glad we didn’t move Andrews over to center in camp.

    • Back in May I had posted something about OL recruiting being a position of need and listed some names of guys the Beavs were looking at. Most of the guys are now committed elsewhere, but here are some of the OL recruits I was seeing at the time:

      https://twitter.com/BeavRecruiting/status/730227627072487424

      (2017 players)
Aaron Banks (eliminated OSU recently from top list)
      Jaxson Kirkland (UCLA commit)
      Cody Shear (Arizona commit)
      Alijah Vera Tucker (USC commit)
Chuck Filiaga (Has several offers but hasn’t narrowed list yet-one to watch)
      Andrew Vorhees(USC commit)
Henry Bainivalu (Has several offers but hasn’t narrowed list yet-one to watch)
      Alex Forsyth (Oregon commit)
Popo Aumavae (Has several offers but hasn’t narrowed list yet-one to watch)
      Brock Wellsfry (Beaver commit)
      Tyler Beach (UW commit)
Casey Roddick (Has several offers but hasn’t narrowed list yet-one to watch)
Jalen McKenzie (Has several offers but hasn’t narrowed list yet-one to watch)
      Tyrese Robinson (Oklahoma commit)
Foster Sarell (game changer, but highly doubtful we land him)
Quazzel White (several mid major and FCS offers. Big senior year could bring some P5 offers, teams are watching him, including the Beavs)
Travis Mackay(wasn’t listed at the time, but is an OSU commit now)
Marlon Tuipulotu (D line commited to UW already. I haven’t counted him out yet though)

      JUCO
These names usually come out a little later, as the team assesses how necessary certain positions are to fill. I’ll keep an eye out for any JUCO guys.

        • I think he’s on campus now, but not 100% sure. Probably would still have to do the acclimation period and then start practice.
Then theyd have to decide whether to burn his redshirt. Doubt we see him any time soon.

          • Garcia is definitely on campus and will almost definitely redshirt. I highly doubt that he will bulk up to be an offensive lineman, I do not feel he has the body type and skill set to make that the best decision. Kenny Turnier is probably the best option among the freshman to transform into a OL (not to say this is a good idea). Just my 2 cents.

          • I thought when they recruited him they were discussing him as a DE or OL and weren’t sure. He seems to have a better from for DE, but we need OL, so if he can do it it’s worth the switch.

        • I’m not sure if they had DE or OL in mind for him, but they should put him on the OL. Suddenly there’s someone in the program with high upside on the OL.

    • Think you forgot about Gus Lavaka. He ended up being the one offensive line recruit when all the others you mentioned fell through. I am pretty sure he ended up being their backup plan. So far it looks like he has panned out pretty good for them as he is listed as a backup as a true freshman.
Any rate I am pretty sure the coaching staff felt they had 1 offer they could use on OL (unless a can’t miss one wanted to commit) on last years class and they used it on Lavaka.

  4. Gina Mizell’s (Morning After) – has a compilation to all the links, plus some stuff we may have forgotten about (mostly positives)

    http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2016/09/the_belated_morning_after_ling_6.html

Look, I don’t know about you folks, but the fact that we’re sitting here talking about a 7 point loss as a double digit underdog that we feel we should’ve won is a major indicator that we’re trending in the right direction. Andersen said you can’t skip four steps ahead when rebuilding a program, and he’s correct. But this team is already light years ahead of Week 1 last year.

    • But this team is already light years ahead of Week 1 last year.

that’s true, but mostly due to no seth at QB.

they did look bigger and more athletic on D, so that’s the other part.

  5. In the beginning of the game our D was doing great to get MN to go 3 and out, and get the ball back. And I was worried that we would still fall into their game plan to have their bigs slowly wear out our D and make us useless at the end. And then I was worried if we couldn’t sustain a drive on O that our D would get worn out.

And then in the 3rd we maintain an incredible possession of the ball. We kept our D off the field and I started to gain confidence that we could out last MN. And then towards the end of the game. Where I had originally expected us to run into a brick wall. We suddenly had penetration. It was great, except the mobile QB immediately adapted to that and beat us despite penetration. It’s like our guys had no clue what to do once they beat a block. Credit to MN for a late adaptation, and I look to see us grow on that front.

On the flipside, we had the possession for much of the critical game time in the 2nd half. And MN was getting thin. They had lost 4 defensive players that I counted to ejection/injury. And late in the game we were presented with an opportunity to adapt the offense to a gassing D, we failed miserably in that aspect and really just beat ourselves on that concept.

I am more positive about the D improving/learning. On O the easy finger points to the OL, the second thought is WR not catching basic balls. But I’m afraid there is a deeper coaching flaw masked in there too. We were not able to throttle down when opprotuntity exposed itself. That flaw I’m afraid will take much longer to be corrected.

  6. Colorado beating CSU 31-0 at neutral site. If OSU was playing CSU at neutral site this would be a 24-21 type game now. Oregon State won’t even do 31-0 at home vs Idaho St and CSU is atleast twice as good as the Bengals.

OSU probably beats Bengals by like 44-13. So sick of not beating ant P5 teams since 2014 and 0-12 since that last win. Step up your dang game GA. Enough is enough!

    • Give him some patience… doesn’t mean Riley level patience, but right now you are exuding an emotional response. Which is fine if you like being angry. If in a year or two we aren’t winning games we should be then blow the whistle.

  7. Need Seth to touch the ball more. He is twice the playmaker of anyone else on the team. Is it just me or does Villamin seem lazy and just happy to be on the team? Seth, Nall, Garretson, Cook, and Togai can be dynamic if they are used right.

  8. I felt the Staff intentionally stayed away from Villamin all night. Villamin was being covered by their draft pick db Myrick. And I while I disagree with that strategy, it’s what they did. And a lot of the crossing route type stuff didn’t have time to develop with #74 Stanton basically saying Ole all night.

    • Villamin had a weird night. He dropped a catchable ball that he had to go down low for, but it went right through his hands. Garrettson missed him on at least one long ball. Villamin is too big not to be a playmaker every game. 5 yards is not going to cut it.

  9. After another 2-win season this year, GA better feel some heat and pull his head out of his ass. I get that he’s rebuilding the program, but he’s made some poor decisions that have lead the DEPTH of this rebuild.

    • I’m having a hard time deciding which 2 remaining games could be wins, based off last night. We didn’t have enough offense to outscore a team that could barely pass the ball. Outside of Idaho St, every other team should be able to take advantage of our secondary. We cant pressure the quarterback, so they’ll have all day to throw on us. Unless we can outscore a team in a shootout, I just don’t see where that 2nd win will come from. We’ll have to hope we catch a few teams that are fighting through injuries like Minnesota was.

  10. Rodent Bowl recap: My rodent Sophie’s Choice.
Came away with a positive vibe for da Beav’s. Even the wife said at the end of the 1st quarter “they are so much better than last year.” Improved on both sides of the ball.
    Good:
DG looked good and made some nice throws. Huge upgrade.
    Nall as a receiver.
Seth is a natural as a receiver. He could be really good.
    Bad:
Stanton. I was worried about the LT and he did OK. I thought Stanton was supposed to be pretty good. He looked like a bull fighter waving them past.
Pass protection: DG won’t last the season at this rate.

The game pretty much played out how I expected, minus the snaps over the head.
GA has them heading in the right direction. I still stand by my prediction of a Civil War victory.
    Go Beavs.

@angry. I knew you would love Leidner LOL! Can you believe how shitty a passer he is? I have had to watch this crap for the last 2 1/2 years.

    • I really couldn’t believe it…a 5th year player, too. How did they not recruit a better QB in that time? And it was funny watching the Big10 announcers try to talk him up. Each time they did he’d throw a bad ball and they’d get quiet.

Beavs should have sold out more on stopping him from running.

  11. Hawaii’s schedule is ridiculous. Open the season in Australia with a 4 hour time zone change as well as hours of travel. Then, travel the other direction for a 6 hour time zone change to play Michigan on the road at noon, where it’s 6AM for the Hawaiian players . Those guy are going to need several weeks to get back to island time

  12. Collins needs to throw a few to maximize his value in terms of making the defense have to cover both throw/run. Perhaps we’ll see that against Boise.

I think they need to get Lucas more touches.

Bolden definitely needs to sit, but I think Villa min needs a bit of a kick in the ass, he under-performs. If those two aren’t going to “make plays,” give Lucas more opportunities.

  13. This is two seasons in a row where the receivers were supposed to be a strength and so far they’re a weakness. I like coach Brennan but if he can’t get his guys ready he needs to go.

  14. Houston doesn’t need a 5-6 year plan to get to a New Mexico or Spud Bowl. They beat Florida State in the Orange Bowl in dominating fashion and back it up with looking like they may beat Oklahoma in Jerry World. All while as members of a G5 lower conference with a fraction of the dollars Oregon State has.

Wuite the rebuild talk and start winning P5 games like you are paid to do GA. So far you are 0-11. If you can’t do it then pay someone like Herman good $ to come be a disruptor and big game winner in the Pac-12. Even Aranda would be an interesting HC.

      • That’s part of the secret. Despite the narrative that SEC is superior to all others, they usually only have 1 or 2 great teams in the conference, with everyone else being mediocre at best. However, because the narrative exists, they get several teams ranked at the start of the season. Then, to avoid disrupting the narrative, they only play cupcakes in their OOC, maintaining those inflated rankings into conference play. This results in the conference champion having several wins over “Top 25” teams, essentially guaranteeing the conference will always have someone playing for the championship.

  15. I keep getting emails (multiple emails per day) from Angie and Blitz.
” The other day, we announced that longtime BeaverBlitz.com publisher Angie Machado and her team of contributors had joined forces with the Scout network.

We also announced an exclusive, limited time offer of SIX months of premium BeaverBlitz.com coverage (including access to The Lodge) for the price of ONE.

Due to overwhelming demand we extended this offer through 11:59pm tonight!”

Response was so overwhelming you decided you should extend the offer?

    Seems more like this…

    https://youtu.be/bFZ0ELu5_KU

  16. Beavs so far look like the absolute bottom of the pac12. Colorado looks substantially better than us, can see beavs again going winless in conference, sadly.

Honestly though, we just still don’t have the players to compete. Yet.

    • How do you come to the conclusion of the Beavers are the worst based on a touchdown loss to a team that is projected to win 7/8 in the Big Ten.

I agree Colorado could really be the surprise this year, but the Colorado State game is a bad measurable. I think that many people are still thinking of them a good team due to the 11 win season in 2014. I think the season will show that Colorado State is not very good.

  17. Lot’s of good insight here.

I am impressed with DG and Seth at WR. Boldin needs a short leash and far fewer opportunities. Besides Stanton’s “Ole” blocking the play that pissed me off the most was Bright’s missed tackle in the backfield that went for a TD. I would have been upset if anyone missed the tackle, but Ugwoebu acts like he is so damn special and honestly, I don’t think he has do e jack squat to deserve it. Really liked the play of Hungalu and Saulo. Just hard nosed kids out there working to do whatever they can to help us win. Chappel also looked solid. Tim Cook and needs more touches and Bradford should take touches away from Boldin.

    Just my .02

    Go Beavs

    • I agree saulo also missed that tackle he over pursued. Im happy about brandel he seemed to play well. Really disappointed in Stanton hopefully he can bounce back because he needs to be the solid guyguy not the weakness. If the o- line (Stanton ) can make strides and protect better this team can be pretty successful. By the time the boise st. Game comes around i think we’ll see some more of the juco guys and freshman.

And yes switch out bolden for lucas or Bradford. I think Lucas is the player who is ideal for returning shocked that they don’t use him there.

      • On the O line, it’ll take more than improvement by Stanton, Yanni needs to step it up (or maybe Kearsley takes over – only benefit I see of the early bye).
Really a test of Garretson’s patience and leadership to respond to so many poor snaps.

    • Fresno State got nice yardage but decided not to go for it on 4th down, then missed the FG.
Nebraska has running room. They will win this one.

  18. Nebraska TD on the ground. They’re running a lot more. Riley wants to be liked.

Forward progress on the TD looked stopped. Surprising call.

    • I know ya’ll may not want to agree but one thing I’ve noticed in regards to Riley and GA is that Riley seems to have conformed his scheme & play-calling to sync w the players from the previous coach regime and not only has he kept control of the locker room but it seems like he’s gained the respect of the players he’s inherited; whereas GA did not really work w/ the players he inherited which resulted in numerous players to leave the team or transfer successfully to other schools…

      • It’s a matter of the players left by the previous coaches.

NU had some good talent and a balance in terms of age and experience. The upperclassmen revolted until they saw they were just making themselves miserable.

OSU had very little talent and a poor mix of age and experience. The upperclassmen were already miserable and had just been ditched. They didn’t even bother revolting, they were so hell bent on quitting… like their previous coach did to them.

  19. Nebraska looks much better this year. Look bigger and better on the O-line and better play calling. They could be good.

I still don’t think Riley will ever get them where they want to go.

  20. OT: Some (not all) nice tackles by spoiled children, particularly #22.
I dislike them but do feel they are wise to leave players names off of the backs of uni’s. To me this promotes more of a “team first” theme and I wouldn’t mind seeing the Beavs go this way.

But, there are other ways of getting Bright U’s attention off of himself!

    • More fun to track Beau Baldwin and the EW team. I know it’s a lesser league, but I do wonder how they would fare against Alabama. Better than USC? EW took Vernon Adams when nobody would look at him; Cooper Kupp when everyone else said he was too small. I’m interested to see how this year’s quarterback,Gabe Gubrud, continues. I tuned in to EW radio after the game. There was mention that Kupp stayed on for his senior year. Did he ever think about going to a bigger program for his last year? Never. EWU had faith in him, taught him and he knows he’s going to the NFL anyway.

  21. Watching all this OOC bullarkey, I have concluded that the absolute best strategy for a conference is for in- conference games to be the opener. That way there is no strange first-game kinks to be embarrassed by. The better team wins, and both teams go on to week 2 OOC. I would like to start seeing that happen in the P-12. Make those OOC match-ups matter with best foot forward.

    • No kidding. The whole point of these ooc games the first weeks are to work out the kinks before conference play starts. Why would you want teams to be dusting off the cobwebs in conference games?

    • Ummm. Because from a conference stand point, I don’t believe a P12 team free of cobwebs loses to an FCS team on regularity. So have the conference knock off cobwebs vs each other, where they are free from embarrassing the conference and hurting everyone’s sos.

      • So FBS teams have cobwebs, but FCS teams don’t? And if you’re playing out of conference, both teams wouldn’t have equal likelihood of cobwebs?

      • I’m talking scheduling as a conference, not for one particular school. Sure any particular school would want to start with baby steps into real games. But the conference as a whole would be better to play a conference game first, then OOC. Today we saw OOC make us look bad.

          • I don’t think it’s either. The same logic could be applied to any conference. The perception would be one of guaranteed results in terms of net wins and losses. Then each team would be better acclimated to the sped of the game when they take on their next opponent. In his scenario that next opponent would be the cupcake game.

    • I see some logic to your post. Wasn’t it about 3 years ago that South Carolina and A&M played first game of the season. Carolina was supposed to be real good, but the Aggies throttled them. So, everybody thought A&M was great, and it didn’t hurt the conference strength overall. A&M beat a couple of nobodies, so they were highly ranked. Then they started losing to the Mississippis. Of course, that just made the Mississippis look good, while people forgot that it meant A&M actually sucked.

  22. There needs to be a conference ban on scheduling Eastern Washington or something, lol. Played all four the PNW Pac-12 teams ridiculously well in recent years.

    • Nope, you got it.

Let’s see which SEC teams also lost:

      Auburn
      Kentucky
      LSU
      Missouri
      Mississippi State

Yet gee, I wonder which conference is going to take the bigger hit in the polls and media…

  23. Unless I am mistaken Mike Riley and Mike Leach are the only two P5 head coaches to have lost two games to FCS programs. There’s two guys that are polar opposites. If one could combine the two coaches his players would be eating popsicles after slip and sliding into a dark equipment shed.

  24. Charlie Strong could be a good example for sticking with a coach. 6-7 and 5-7 his first two years, people were calling for his head. Obviously this was just one game, but they look to be trending up.

I think we’re trending up after the Minnesota game, but if it’s not a clear improvement in year 3 we’ll know there’s a problem. Our money situation probably prevents us from doing anything about it even if GA has us going no where next year though.

    • Going 6-7 and 5-7 is in A LOT different than going 2-10 and 2-10 (our future). It’s going to be year 4 before we get to a bowl game (hopefully). I’m fine sticking with GA but people need to realize he’s not the coach we all hoped he’d be. This is going to be a slow and painful process under his leadership.

        • exactly. I don’t see OSU going 2-10 this year either. I was not impressed by most of the Pac-12 this weekend. If I had to pick one team that did what they were supposed to against the level of competition? Washington. Followed by Colorado. Only 4 teams were returning a starting QB from last year. Arizona, Washington, Colorado and UCLA. Some serious over reacting to a 7 pt loss on the road to a P5 team that will be in a bowl game around here.

          • I agree that PAC-12 looks down this year. But it was also down last year when GA went 0’fer. Outside of ISU, there’s not a team on the schedule where the Beavs’ will be favored. While the Beavs will be more competitive this year, i just don’t see them taking the next step in the win column…I think that will come next year (5-6). I’m just glad GA didn’t have EWU on the schedule this year. They would win by 20+.

          • that’s an interesting theory you have turd burglar considering a record 10 teams from the Pac-12 went to a bowl game. Maybe it was a down year in being top heavy but certainly 10 teams winning at least 6 games does not suggest it was a down year.

  25. Defense: Crawford played some nice coverage. Only 2 TFL for the team though and no QB hurries. I’d like to see more disruption.

OL: Saw Fred get burned, but at least he’s playing… Clearly Stanton was playing ill, otherwise he would have fallen on his sword after the first sack/fumble.

GA’s head: I say we give him 6 years and if he’s not better than .250 overall then we fire him.

    • Would you think you were funny if you posted under just one handle? Or would you think you were just one long bore… pretending to be funny… ?

      • Wasn’t supposed to be lol!

Xavier Crawford is a novel point on this thread. Lead the team in tackles with Hungalu and had two pass breakups, I’d say he held his own.

        • I’m just tired of the groupthink on GA and blaming him for the pile of shit Riley left when he ditched OSU for the second time. Riley got a pass for some really poor coaching because why? Nobody ever talks about him being a part of the 28 years. They seem to think when he ditched us the first time he was somehow involved with the end of that streak. He was… a little less than Pettibone was. He parlayed one great game into an NFL gig. 1998 was a shit show where we happened to have four worse teams on the schedule. It was just an awesome CW game.

Everyone (not everyone… but enough people in key positions) gave Riley a pass because his brand of mediocrity was better than what we had before DE (someone I also would never ever rehire). They have to ignore the fact that he was a part of what we had before DE. I think that dissonance was created to allow people to rehire someone they never would rehire in their own business.

And now that he’s shown his true colors, that dissonance continues by attacking someone who actually wants to be here and who will eventually outshine a head coach who has ten winning seasons out of 22… and has never lost less than four games in any of them.

          So that’s why I bristle.

          • Don’t get me wrong. I really really like that Mike Riley is precisely who I thought and think he is. I’m not angry at him. I’m angry at those who enabled him.

          • The local media were a big part of the Riley narrative, you could get pretty specfic in your “bristling”. Think journalists like Goe, Schnell and even Eggers (friend of Riley) who continued to frame mediocrity as success long after Riley’s shelf life had expired.

          • Article I read this morning about the situation at UT could apply just as well at OSU…

“‘And for those who have written off Charlie Strong, maybe they better guess again,’ Feldman said. ‘He inherited a mess from Mack Brown with a program that had gotten soft. Truth be told, UT didn’t get that way overnight, and it wasn’t going to fixed overnight either.’ “

          • Thank you for the kind words regarding my coaching awesomeness. A framed autographed picture is on it’s way to you.

PS: There is a $75.00 shipping and handling charge.

“Automated message do not reply” Especially you!

          • For the record: I was trolling JB with the “6 year” comment, but apparently need to be more ingratiating to get an autographed photo. I’m not a Riley apologist/supporter. I’d have dinner with him, but thought his approach was stale and he looked old/depressed the last two seasons or so; I think his departure was what the team needed to move forward, even if it means/meant taking a step or two back. Jack has made some great points (as usual); I like a lot of things about GA, his desire to be here and strategy. I do think he needs another Telly-type coach or two to really maximize recruiting potential.

I don’t think we make a bowl this year. But I think we lose about six games we had(have) no business losing.

And Seth, stop fucking talking. Start fucking scoring touchdowns. Those morons who push you out of bounds here and there are not an excuse. Stop gracing them with your wisdom. Start showing them by example.

    • I noticed that also, probably the first two or three times Colling touched the ball, he would pop up and get in the defenders face when it was just a typical play. Collins didn’t seem to do it in the second half, so I’m hoping coaching staff talked to him. There’s something wrong with his mental state, hoping maturity will fix, but it would not shock me if he does not last in the program.

  27. I figured I had eight more just to plug Miles.

But then I remembered you said your capacity was 10… for Miles. So Sam and the hippies don’t count.

  28. It’s one game, we lost by 7 and we’re on a bye week. We have a lot of football to play and we have Idaho state in practically 2 weeks. So let’s cool the talk on how the season will go and let’s focus on the positives. Procedural penalties were down considerably since last year, the defense showed grit and toughness which was lacking last year, both offense and defense weren’t 100% gassed by the 4th quarter like last year. The defense actually formed tackled and made plays on special teams when needed. So those are a few positives. Anything better than last year in the intangibles I’ll take as a step in the right direction. I think we look to Colorado more than any other team in this rebuild. They didn’t have a winning season in Mac’s first year, nor second year. This year they look better than last year. That’s Oregon state, rebuild the program one practice, one workout, and one game at a time.

  29. OT- Jacquizz was cut by the Bears, they are going with a “youth movement”, Quiz is all of 26 years old. I heard a rumor that James is helping out at Nebraska in some capacity? He was cut by Montreal last winter, I believe.

  30. Jack old girl, enlighten me on global warming would you? I imagine you are a member of the “sky is falling society”, am I correct? I would have preceded my request with an “OT,” but nothing is OT with Jackie.

    • 1. Stanford: yeah
      2. UW: It kills me to watch Ed’s son on that team.
      3. UCLA: Woke up too late into the game, but they’re even better than that. The only reason they’re this low is because they did that poor non-con scheduling thing we were talking about earlier. Their conference schedule lines up pretty nicely.
      4. Utah: Their D looks solid.
      5. Cal: Their win against Hawai’i was some of the most poorly played football I’ve ever seen by two defenses.
      6. ASU/CU/Nikegon: Play someone first.
      9. OSU/Zony: It is what it is.
      11. Wazzu: At least they put up a fight.
      12. USC: #6? Fight on, dude!

    • WSU being above the Beavs when WSU lost AT HOME to an FCS team while the Beavs lost by one score on the road to a P5 school is ridiculous. Same as quacks being #3. Please.
Same old o-live pro-duck bias, but hey, they got us to click. Does anyone actually care about these power rankings other than people with too much time on their hands trying to kill some on a mobile device?

Breaking big news for #GoBeavs as 4-star CB @Kingwallace22 will be back at #OregonState on Thursday.

  33. I didnt see this discussed elsewhere:

If D Garretson just took a sack and did not fumble on the two plays he fumbled, we would have won the game?

    Agreed????

    Discuss amongst yourselves….

  34. Totally off topic, but I saw Hell or High Water this weekend.
Good flick if you’re looking for something without any comic book characters

  36. Y’all have to cheer for the Gophers for the rest of the season. How else does a one loss Beaver squad make the four team playoff, unless it also includes an undefeated B1G champion Gopher
    team. Rodent Bowl redux.

  37. going back to the $100 donation…What if each person that donated $100, they add a plank of wood to the Valley Football center to make it resemble a Beaver Dam? I really think they could eventually spruce up the Valley Football Center to resemble this quite easily. Or a Log Cabin esque feel to it.

  38. I think that you guys should start a petition to get Beau Baldwin to be our OC and QB coach. His play calling is solid, he is good at getting a lot out of a QB, and a good evaluator of talent. I would actually be willing to trade them a Baldwin and a pallet of diet cola to artificially sweeten the deal.

I the OSU game again in an effort to be objective. Many people are correct on here about some positive improvement over last year but I still believe that the play calling is very predictable and wasn’t executed crisply on the offense. I look forward to see what adjustments are made for Idaho State.

  39. I think just go for Baldwin’s offensive coordinators – Zak Hill b4 he went to Hawaii (I haven’t looked up how he’s doing there) and this year’s. http://goeags.com/coaches.aspx?rc=69&path=football

I believe had EWU still had Vernon Adams @qb in 2015 they would have defeated Oregon. He’s 3rd string for the Alouettes so his big move didn’t improve his draft status.

OTOH – EWU might get throttled by NDSU this Saturday – we’ll see.

    • Absolutely agree, if VA was still at EWU and Lockie was the the starting QB hole would have been embarrassed last year. It’s not like their defense would have kept them in it.
