We’ve heard:
- Injuries
- Youth
- GP2 graduated
- Etc
Criticism of Tinkle has been nil. Is it because he broke the NCAA streak? Is it because people expected a down year? Personally, this isn’t too surprising. I think all the above are valid reasons for a down year. But the one thing that really disturbs me is how badly he missed on some recruits. Stacy is not a D1 player. Kone and Big G are busts. Now Dew is off the team. The recruiting misses are what really has me concerned. I think the guy can coach, but outside of recruiting coaches’ sons he’s struck out over and over.
First!
Write it down muthafuckas!
You da man!
it
“IS WAYNE TINKLE GETTING A FREE PASS?”
I don’t think it’s a free pass. The guy earned a pass by exceeding expectations his first year and breaking the no-tourney streak last season. So it’s an earned pass.
He’s sure cashing that pass in this year, though.
A fair assessment.
This year is more due to bad luck than anything.
They could have survived the loss of Payton but losing Bruce and Duvivier really put the team in a hole. Then Tres went down and now down basically to role players.
Tinkle really missed on Dew and Stacy. Just really hurt. Dew leaving is a good thing. Frees up a scholarship and give Tinkle an immediate redo.
I give Tinkle a pass this year. He’s done a lot for the program. Next year with Tres, STJ and Eubanks being juniors, I expect them to be very competitive.
Luck O da Beavs?
I’m not even sure Tinkle Jr and STJr have been on the floor at the same time this year. The team has no point guard. McLaughlin has been underwhelming and proven he is not ready. 4 star my ass. ST Jr is not a point guard but it’s something he’s being asked to do. This season is beyond a tire fire and unexpected. However no ones mentioned it but Tinkle signed a contract extension after flirting with the Stanford gig. He’s not going anywhere. Either on his own or being dismissed. Take your lumps and move on for next year. And redshirt Tinkle Jr.
^^^^^^^BG approves of this message.
I agree with the recruiting questions. Losing MD was out of left field.
Has it ever come out why he left and it is possible he returns next year?
Bruce? Perhaps too big of a risk because of academics or a fail on the support staff? Maybe just not smart enough for a real school. His loss has killed this team.
Big G? Hard to tell if this is lack of development or a factor of not having a guard that can consistently make any entry passes. You would think Tinkle could coach and develop bigs.
The two JC’s have been F’s on the grading scale. I think Kone gets a pass because of the injury.
The two guys coming in next year are both off guards and although we need some shooters, if he does not get a ready to play point guard, Tinkle will be on life support next year.
I haven’t seen this mentioned yet but in Eggers piece about the Beavs a few days ago, he states Duvivier is back in school. Will he come back? Who knows. If he does, that might allow Tinkle to recruit a not so ready point guard and allow JM to not have to be the man.
“Back in school is Malcolm Duvivier, who left the program and Oregon State before the season due to personal reasons. There is hope the veteran guard — a two-year starter under Tinkle — might return for next season”
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/256-sports/kerry-eggers/341355-221613-another-pac-12-loss-for-beavers
Thanks. Let’s hope he comes back.
No, this is a bad year and if its not corrected next year Tinkle should be on the hot seat.
If he doesn’t correct it this year, he should be on the hot seat all summer and at the beginning of next season. That pass that he’s earned is for the scoreboard, not the effort.
What I see out there is a lack of any athleticism. A true point guard is surely needed to make the offense less offensive.
I don’t know what to think. Like we’ve said, he missed badly on the JC recruits, so he should be held accountable for that, right? How many games does this team win with a healthy STjr and TT on the floor for every game? GP-2 was a CR recruit, would have CR pissed away his talent or would have the team improved if CR had been given another year with GP-2 in the mix? We don’t even do game threads for Beav hoops anymore. I just get frustrated, some freshman on an average North Carolina St team just went off for 32 points against Duke last night. Jacquori can’t even get his shot off in P-12 games. They just can’t find all around talented players who can go off and dominate a game for the last 27 years unless their last name happens to be Payton.
That some freshman was the top PG in his class. ESPN had him rated 96 on a scale of 100.
Tinkle does need to get front court help. Another PF and C would really help.
It’s a frustrating season because Tinkle did better his first year with a team that had less talent.
Ratings or not, he does not seem to have true point guard skills. Could end up being a great combo guard, but his ball handling and his passing skills are not there at this stage.
I don’t know about that. In hindsight, he had GP-2. That’s more talent than any two players who are taking the floor in Beaver uniforms now.
Why can’t Duvivier play now? I don’t know if this is relevant – at all – but autumn 2016 – didn’t one of the Utah football players, you know, the star, retire, then return b4 the season ended?
Tinkle doesn’t fail – well, he didn’t make it to the NBA – but (personal opinion here) I think playing internationally would be WAY more fun and interesting even if you didn’t become a billionaire. I can’t explain the recruiting snafu, at all. McLoughlin was an outstanding player in Washington, probably wishes he’d stuck with them.
I always meh’d the NCAA tournament kudos because it only meant they had won the Big Sky. And that Syracuse loss!
I wish he would just throw all the players out there – the team isn’t going to win anyway – and I worry about permanent injury to Eubanks. N’diaye was hurt the whole time he was at OSU – not sure why he’s even being mentioned.
With all the football recruiting news – I’m not seeing much about basketball.
My penultimate comment – I wish the mbb team would have some sports psychologist time.

Beautiful –
Why waste his eligibility in a lost year?
Malcolm can’t play because he also left school. But he does have a redshirt year.
IMO its to early to claim Kone` a bust. Major knee injury a year ago. Not really at 100% right now. Let’s see what he can do with a full year of practicing with the team, and a summer with the team while healthy.
I haven’t watched him play at all this year but his Jr. year HS film gave me some hope.
I see potential in Kone. I also like his attitude his seems like a true competitor. I think once he gets fully healthy and adds some more strength he could be a force in the Pac 12. Jacquori I see some flashes as well. He would look much better if he were able to play off of Tinkle and Stevie. Right now he’s being asked to create his own shot a bit too early. I think its fair to give him time..
Stacy though?? WTH the majority of us that played at Dixon bring more to the table.
Kind of feel like you got to give him 2 more years at least. I mean if next year is a disaster also turn up the heat but considering the better players are all related to coaches firing the guy seems like adding more gas and tires to the fire.
That’s not a consideration. If they’re a part of the problem, they can go too.
But we’re not at that point yet. There does seem to be some effort. But we’re still not playing like a team. The best way to become a team is to drill and condition as a team. That’s on the coach.
You don’t need a handle if you can pass. And everyone can pass well if they’re taught how to do it… and they’re playing together. So I don’t know why anyone is complaining about not having a PG. The best press breaks don’t involve dribbling. Use a couple of them. The best offenses constantly move and pass to gain leverage. Use a couple of them.
Their passing stinks. They really hardly move the ball.
^^^^Winner, winner, chicken dinner. If they could pass and move the ball half as well as the women, they might have won a few games.
And the coach is responsible for that. It’s a fundamental that is easily taught within a system to a team.
angry wrote once that he wondered if Tres would be getting special treatment from his father, and the team might resent that. I don’t see anyone not getting special treatment. It looks to me like everyone skates on conditioning and team building drills.
What this team needs most is an excellent ball handler. Even their best players Tinkle, STSjr, and Eubanks are not good ball handlers. Even MD, if he comes back, is limited in his ball handling. They really need a guard who can handle pressure and still handle the rock without turning it over. Turnovers have been the one major deficiency on this team.
How is the younger thompson at ball handling?
That’s an inappropriate question.
Ha
Is there any hope of landing GP2’s younger brother? Not sure if he’s even a basketball player, but he has the genes….
Julian
Green officially reopens recruitment.
Early visits are very risky. Harder to close when other schools bring them in for late visits.
It’s not just Utah for TJ Green. Looks like UCLA, Mich St, SDSU amd Oregon are all kicking the tires. Probably more
I want to see the Tinkle sweat meter move up. Last year it was at an 8 to 10 most games and you could squeeze 30oz of sweat or more out of that three yards of fabric shirt. Now he might hit a 2 out of 10, with just a couple moist pits.
What a set up. Last weekend I saw the highlights of the Marquette game. Coach K’s boy, Wojo, had the exact same color blue shirt on made famous by Tinkle. He put Tinks to shame. Looked like wore the shirt in the shower. Tinkle does need to up his pit output.
So you’re saying you want Tinkle salty?
I doubt going to sea would make him sweat more.
We got Tyler.
Is he blessed, humbled, or both?
Has he already reopen his recruitment?
Not funny! ?
Drew Eubanks was a huge get, in-state too. He is a fantastic bball player.
MD flaking out is a massive disappointment. Derrick Bruce flaking out
was a huge loss too. Too bad Hallice Cooke didn’t work out either.
Anyhow, imagine if we have MD & DB (or even trade Hallice for one of the others,)
we’ve got ourselves a much more talented mature team.
Anyways, due to transfers then injuries, we’re way off where we could be.
I agree though, some of these others have been SO bad. Stacey, Dew, Kone, like really?
This is D1 PAC12 basketball… wtf are these guys doing here? At least the walk-ons play with some god damned intensity!
I believe in Tinkle, he will get us back into the first and second round of the tourney, win 20 games a number of times. He won’t be sweet16, elite8 < though.
We missed that chance passing on Ben Howland.
Bruce flaking out….you mean flunk out. Dude couldn’t get even minimum grades.
Howland? Likely, would have done well here, but he cost double what Tinkle makes. Plus Tinkle is 100% more likable than Howland.
And we’d probably be playing this year without any postseason anyway.
Kone not D1? I challenge you to strap that brace to your leg and pretend to show me what you think is D1. Do you also kick your dog?
And Malcolm flaking? You have information about him that none of us do? Out with it. I want to hear how you think he’s a flake.
Kone still recovering from the knee blow out. A lot of guys would still be on the bench with that surgery. I think he’ll be good down the road.
Kone is soft like you Jack.
M Duv: follow his snapchat, the guy clearly slipped back into the street life.
And yes Bruce flaked out by both flunking out and getting in a car wreck where he tried lying
at first and said his girlfriend was driving.
I get Howland isn’t likable and Tinkle is. But to get deep into the tourney isn’t about being a good guy. Ask our buddy Mike Riley about how that worked out in college football.
Kone is soft like me, puddin.
I don’t have the luxury to follow someone’s snapchat. I’ll let loiterers like you amuse me with what you think is “street life” or some such nonsense that I assume is supposed to solidify some claim of someone being a flake.
So I’ll still wait on that evidence.
I didn’t say anything about Bruce. I don’t care about Bruce any more. Why are you so stuck on him? In addition to your loitering, you’re a gossip.
Are you a spook?
Too bad Hallice Cooke didn’t work out either. http://www.iowastatedaily.com/sports/article_2becf3dc-5818-11e6-b487-073ebe0ddd50.html
Us and Oregon for Judson. What are the chances?
0%

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMRrNY0pxfM
Andersen having an in-home with Bruce tomorrow in Florida. With TJ looking much less likely now that opens up significant opportunity for Judson at OSU. He’d definitely see more playing time and play an integral role in our offense. Gives GA a chance even if slimy Willy has his hooks in him.
I think Trajon Cotton will announce not long after Bruce. Andersen is the logical best bet for Cotton since he has a history of placing guys on defense into the NFL. We’ll see how it plays out. Andersen needs to deliver another player or two that are well perceived to finish the class strong.
Cotton will be a beav.
Judson: IMO all signs point to Oregon. I haven’t seen a kid more into self promotion in my life. Perfect fit for self promotion prima donnaville down there in the euge. Glad if I’m wrong but I think he’s trolling us. He claims Taggert is like a father to him. I think he took the trip to OSU and surprisingly actually had a good time, but is now playing up the rivalry and having some fun with the spotlight, increasing his followers only to clown us in the end. You can see in his tweets he’ll say something nice about OSU, but then retweets or takes a jab later down the line.
Again, great if I’m wrong but I don’t have a good feeling about this one.
I don’t know why we’re worried about Judson. If he wants to come play here, fine.
For us, he would be gravy. I would think we give up someone if he does come our way. The most likely would be Tyler.
Well we need two runningbacks this cycle so he would be a nice addittion but i don’t think anyones too worried about it.
You don’t consider Allen a RB?
I forgot about him. But not really more like a paul lucas role hopefully works out better tho.
I see that APB role as more important since Lucas’ development isn’t immediate. My tendency is to believe that he wasn’t looking inward to see what little things he was doing wrong and became frustrated with what he thought should be successful given his past successes at lower levels.
The fault in his demeanor is the same as in his game. He’s not patient.
Allen checks that box and shows a willingness to play inside as well. If he and Lucas split that APB role and do it well, that takes a huge load of our two proven backs, extending their longevity over the season. And that allows Tyler space enough to learn instead of being thrown in the mix too early.
I wouldn’t object to more depth. But that’s what I feel Judson would be at this point.
Sorry… brain fart. No Lucas.
You’re right. We need another back. My argument stands for another APB instead of another tailback.
Now I wonder if Judson is who we want at all. I was watching his tape and thinking he was a great receiver because his QB sucked… and then I looked more closely and saw he wasn’t the receiver… he was the QB. Now he looks like a short version of Collins with all the ‘tude. He’s for sure a project.
Is Duvivier actually back in Corvallis? I wasn’t sure. And also, he was not going to save this years team, he was losing minutes as the season progressed last season and how many comments did we make about him bricking layup after layup? Maybe they win a couple more games with his tough defense? He will be a decent addition if he comes back next year, but he is no savior.
Do we have a good chance at landing any of the players on this list?
Jamire Calvin
TJ Green
Daniel Green
Bruce Judson
Juliano Falaniko
TraJon Cotton
George Moore
I would say…
Gone—-
Jamire Calvin
TJ Green
George Moore
Unlikely—
Daniel Green
Bruce Judson
50/50—-
Juliano Falaniko
Probable—-
TraJon Cotton
I’d be curious if the coaches are even still going after Calvin, Green, and Moore at this point. Wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve moved on.
Why do you have Green as unlikely?
We’re in his top 3 and he’s taking his last official to OSU this weekend.
The rumor is that he canceled his visit
Ya heard he might be taking a trip to ole miss i think?
TJ green already came on an official visit during the season. At least that’s what the recruiting sites say.
Were talking about daniel
I kind of like that cardoza kid big ol. I think kind of an unkown with a small offer sheet but film looks pretty good. Maybe weak competition?
They.re his recruits, and they suck. He doesn’t have what it takes to coach at this level. Fire him.
