Since the last recruiting thread, the Ducks got one of the top JC DTs in the Country. The Beavs landed a 3-star 5.5 ranked LB who looks pretty good. The Beavs have 3 commits, and the Ducks 9.
3 isn’t terrible for this time of year, but it shows how impressively the Ducks are killing it. They have more commits than Stanford or USC, even.
It’s interesting to see that today we offered a 4-star Nebraska commit. It would sure be nice to poach from Riley and rub some vinegar in that wound. Ironic, yeah, that “you can’t recruit to Corvallis”, yet we poach from one of the top 5 easiest schools to recruit to? Looking at his offer sheet, I doubt we get him even if Nebraska loses him. Hopefully we can at least poach one NE recruit this year to stick to Riley and his false narrative.
I keep hearing that the duck coach who has been their best recruiter is Keith Heyward.
So I guess you can say the Beavs are killing it in recruiting, just it’s for the ducks’ benefit.
But Angry you said it was good for the Beavs that the ducks fired someone from the Chip coaching tree…
And your point is?
You’re never going to win this narrative. Helf’s classes were just as good, and he was 37-16 with a Rose Bowl cremation of Florida State and a NCG appearance. Taggart hasn’t coached a game. Lol.
My God you are a desperate man.
My point is Taggart is killing it, Helfrich was badly slipping.
Helfrich had 8 verbal commits plus 1 or 2 silent ones by the end of June last year. I wouldn’t say that is much worse than where Oregon currently is performing. Most of those guys were “4*” guys last year, as well. Yes, it is May and they have a comparable number at this point, but a May verbal commit vs a June verbal commit is splitting hairs. All of these kids are still Juniors (or Juco)
Yeah i agree im not overly concerned its just a lot at one time. I think the recruits Andersen is getting are the real deal even though they aren’t 4 stars. If he could grab a top qb i would feel a lot better.
I feel like we are nowhere near finding our QB. Lots of new QB offers have been going out lately, making me thinking most of our ongoing prospects have moved on.
Why is it so hard to find a QB? Don’t they know we have the best college town in the Pac?
It will get easier to find one as the WRs step up and the team wins games. So many dropped balls and losses the past few years. Most QBs aren’t going to be into that. GA is also poor at spotting QB talent, so that’s another problem. This year is the best batch he’s had so we’ll see what happens. History tells us he will start the wrong guy. At least he had the sense to move Moran to S.
Exactly, Helfrich was killing it in recruiting, too. The only reason I even mention Oregon recruiting is because I thought Taggart’s abuse, the DUI thing, and his slimy salesman pitch would work against him, but apparently nobody cares. Their problem.
I think white is interested but he said he wanted to wait on his committment. The petras kid they offered looked good on film and has good size. He looks under the radar but said he wanted to come on an unofficial and could committ. He moves pretty good for his size.
For the sake of nitpicking, Nebraska isn’t close to being one of the top 5 easiest schools to recruit to.
Bama
Florida
Florida St
Texas
USC
Clemson
Michigan
UCLA
Oklahoma
Ohio St
Just off the top of my head. Nebraska is a program of the past. Would be impossible to recruit to that shithole if not for the history of success
Yeah top 5 was pushing it. Top 20, though. The bottom line is it’s very easy to recruit there, even though they’re living in the past.
before ESPN remodeled its college football website there was a readily available visual “metric” that indicated which schools were the easiest to recruit to, namely, the 15 schools that had individualized news tabs. Nebraska was indeed one of those, and top 15 seems to me to be the right spot. The other Pac 12 schools on that site were SC, Stanford, and UO. One could say, in fact, that Taggart’s early success in recruiting despite Angry’s list of foibles is indicative of that status. UW wasn’t on that list, as I recall, but with Peterson there now they probably should be.
Early signing period was officially approved and will start this year. Dec 20 – 22nd.
A gigantic game changer for sure.
and very much to the benefit of schools like OSU, or I should say, hard working coaches/recruiters like those currently at OSU
I watched some tape on new men’s basketball walk-on commit Xavier Smith. Pretty decent player, looks really solid for a walk-on at least but I doubt he makes much impact for quite some time, maybe even a redshirt this year.
I still think we need a point guard. I’m sure McLaughlin will develop some and getting Tres Tinkle back will help overall ball movement and help us turn the ball over less, but I think we still lack a true point guard.
I was noticing how many recruits have pac 12 offers and then nebraska. It sucks that we have to compete with them now for recruits regularly.
Yep.
Calibraska!
Saw a comment on twitter about Kesi Ah-Hoy’s film and realized I had never watched it. Just viewed it and he looks awesome, especially for a late addition to our 2017 class. I think Hawaii wanted him at RB, but he looks great on defense. Really looking forward to that guy playing for us.
Noticed you had him as your highest 3* guy in your 2017 class rankings Angry. I think I would agree with that.
His goes by Chip…
We’ve offered something like 6 more 2018 QB’s since White’s visit and Petras was offered.
I think White has moved on. He has plenty of options and seems headed for Tennessee, Boise or WSU.
Maybe all of the new offers is our way of putting the pressure on someone to pull the trigger? But to me it looks like we’re scrambling to find somebody/anybody who will accept.
I guess its better to cast a wide net?
Yeah, I think once our current WR crop starts performing better (and they should), we will start to get more serious looks by the top QB prospects. I have the feeling it will happen after the season is over – it might be too little too late at that point.
Current Impact WR:
Timmy Hernandez
Jordan Villamin
Hunter Jarmon
Hopeful:
Isaiah Hodgins
Kolby Taylor
And Seth Collins will probably RS.
Hodgins and Taylor will likely start, if not game 1, but mid-season. Aaron Short was an under the radar JC guy who has a great frame (looks like Davante Adams) and high points the ball. I view a lot of these guys as better than Hernandez and Villy. Bradford is shifty and can maybe do damage with the right matchups.
So many options to throw to this year. Hodgins/Villy/Jarmon should start, but Hernandez, Short and Bradford all seem like capable backups who could challenge for a starting spot. Seth coming back this year would almost be problematic, being that he was one our beat receivers last year but would have so much competition. I feel like Taylor would redshirt until absolutely needed.
If only our O-line is able to pass protect, this offense could be fun to watch, given the personnel at the skill positions.
You can take Hodgins off the hopeful list.
I think villy will bounce back this year he’s looked good so far. Im really excited to see allen i think he’s going to be a dynamic playmaker. Bodden has been a nice surprise for depth at least.
Agree Allen and Watson both look like they could play WR. Allen looked especially natural. I had him as the #3 best recruit in the last class, but I have a hunch they try him on D.
I thought they might use him as a return man rb/wr. We’ll see either way i think he’s a good one.
I believe they recruited him as an athlete but had him pegged for D, but he looks like he’d make a beast of a WR. He’s looks like an anquan boldin type WR. A guy who is thick but with good speed and body control and great after the catch. Doesn’t look like a deep threat. I’d rather see him start as a WR than on D, tbh.
I think allen runs a 4.4 40 so i definitely think he can be a deep threat and also with the ball in his hands.
4.40 according to whom?
Some guys are fast yet still not deep threats. It’s because of their body types. In the footage I saw of Allen, he was nice after the catch but not catching deep balls.
On 247
I think they announced STG was moving to d. Try out safety and lb.
You guys are morons if you honestly believe Corvallis is anywhere close to being the best college town in the Pac! OMG LOL!
Seriously, it’s a battle between Pullman and Corvallis for LEAST desirable city. Both of those cities compete annually for title of “most miserable existence in the PAC.
If you think college kids want cow and sheep pastures and meth over Seattle, San Francisco or LA you all must be fucking crazy bastards.
Last I checked, Seattle, SF and LA weren’t college towns.
Hence why most of us use the “best college town” proclomation with a little tongue in cheek.
Meth?
That’s Eugene and incrementally more for every town to the south. And the coast ain’t great either. I won’t drive the PCH in the dark. This strip mall of a town’s best culture is that you can get out of it and get to many actual desirable places, Corvallis being one of them.
Corvallis also has this trait. But it’s much more conservative than Eugene in terms of planning, giving it more of a community feel.
What’s our best W/L record ever in baseball? This team should break it. I mean 38-4 is insane.
4 warts
This is a sports blog; it’s not the wiener confessionals.
A@A Your act is tired. Start your own blog, move on or try adding something to the conversation for a change.
What’s the act?
He really does have 4 genital warts.
Small ones….cause big ones wouldn’t fit
I feel sorry for his kid. Could you imagine growing up with that petty of a father?
I am not a fan of A@A or Jack for that matter but is this site only for people who agree? Isn’t the premise of the site to encourage discussion on topics that fans are typically unwilling to discuss or scrutinize? At least his rants don’t go completely sideways and I hope to never learn about his musical tastes.
Who would Pat Casey be if he were a Pokemon, warts and all?

Beavs best W/L in baseball? Well, Eggers comes close to answering that question with this impressive recitation which deals only with conference games:
“Oregon State could achieve the best Pac-12 record since the league went to a 30-game conference schedule in 2012. The best mark since then was 24-6 by OSU in 2013. The Beavers won the league with a 19-5 mark in 2005. No team has lost fewer league games since a united conference began in 1999.”

USC usually comes on late in recruiting every year. They recruit high profile recruits that can go to any school, thus these type of recruits like to wait to til the end of the cycle to weigh more options. Almost every year USC looks to be middle of the road in recruiting in the Pac 12 then the last 2 months they pass every one up in the Pac 12 for the best recruiting class.
FWIW, Kendal Manuel has reached a plea deal, will serve 80 hours community service, etc.
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2017/05/kendal_manuel_reaches_plea_dea.html#incart_river_index
Hopefully the community service is ball handling and shooting drills.
Tres and Cheikh N’diaye both get a medical redshirt for last season
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/19346091/oregon-state-beavers-tres-tinkle-cheikh-ndiaye-granted-medical-hardships
Great for Tres. N’diaye will probably injure himself signing the paperwork.
Feel bad for the kid.
Toilet seat gang, in a tune up for the upcoming series, drops one to Portland, 3-2.
Whoreton’s guys have an offense built largely on HBP, WP, and BB; tonight they got 1 unearned run, 8 hits, LOB=9 (not that LOB matters, huh?).
Wonder how much longer Horton lasts?
Seems like the return on that hire has been pretty underwhelming.
His current deal is up at the end of the summer, and I don’t see them bringing him back, considering he hasn’t produced the elusive “natty”
From what I’ve read, there are a lot of ucks fans who agree with you!
You can’t recruit to Eugene.
Remember a couple seasons ago the Schmucks won several games, like 4 or 5, in the late innings without registering a hit — it was laughable, luck O’ the toilet seats. There are seven different ways to get on base, Orton must emphasize everything but hitting….LOL. Hopefully we don’t see much of the “Toilet-ball(bowl)” this weekend.
Interesting story out of Kansas State, where Bill Snyder is trying every way he can to get the AD to hand the head coaching reigns over to his son, as his successor. But several people around the program don’t think that would be the best course of action, and would want that job open to all candidates.
What’s interesting is a little tidbit about oregon’s d coordinator, Leavette. Apparently, when he signed his oregon deal, he had a clause written into the contract allowing him to take his dream job (specifically kansas st) free of any buyout penalty, should the job become open.
Would love to see oregon have another coach bolt before their season even starts. Here’s to hoping Snyder doesn’t get his way and leaves the Wildcats before the next season starts.
http://footballscoop.com/news/bill-snyder-conundrum-completely-consume-kansas-state-football/
Bill Snyder is probably the best coach of our era. If his son is anything like him, they should probably hand him the job.
Snyder was the true “more with less” coach, not Riley.
Bill’s argument is that his son already is running the program moreso than he is himself, so he would make the best candidate for keeping that continuity.
He also had the last AD fired for not being on the same page, so the new AD is in a tricky spot.
Nepotism is a slippery slope.
I don’t know enough about the kid or this situation, but if he’s good, then it’s probably not nepotism. They should just let him do it for a year or two, and if he sucks can him. That’s better than potentially missing out on a young Bill Snyder clone.
There a 450 lb KSU alum currently unemployed. Head coaching experience in the B1G.
This is more a matter of who is making the call rather than what the call actually is. Who could be held accountable if they made that hire and it failed? An former coach who is retired? Certainly wise to consider him but without coordinator or outside experience it is certainly far from a slam dunk.
Gaviglio called up
I wonder now if Moore’s promotion was because the Mariners knew they were calling up Gaviglio.
Damn ducks mixed up their pitching rotation for this weekend so now the game i was going to is the wrong game.
Guess I’ll be going to game 2 and 3 both now, unless somebody wants to buy 4 tickets to game 2?
Oregon Preview –
On paper this is quite a mismatch. Oregon’s weaknesses play right into OSU’s strengths. The weather might even things the differences a bit. If Beav’s hit, UO has no chance.
As seen in the mid week game, the Duck’s offense was limited to one run vs Britton who hadn’t pitched in a while. Now they’re going up against the top pitchers.
OSU pitching vs UO hitting
– UO’s batting average is 2nd worst but their OBP is middle of the pack.
– UO doesn’t have much pop in their lineup. Last in hits and last in extra base hits.
– They get on base via walks and HBP.
– OSU’s pitching is exactly what Oregon does not want to face.
– OSU ranks first in fewest walks allowed and fewest extra base hits allowed. Second fewest hit batters.
OSU offense vs UO pitching
– UO season has stayed afloat because of their pitching.
– Peterson is legit. He will keep them in the game on Thursday.
– The starters are their best pitchers. Bullpen is where there’s a lot of trouble.
If the Beavs can knock out the UO starters early, it’s going to be a very long series for the Ducks. I think Horton has a tendency to leave them in there too long because he can’t trust his bullpen.
With the weather calling for rain on all three days, I expect pitching to have the advantage. Going to have to scratch out runs. Sounds like Casey is pulling Fehmel from Friday’s game. Don’t think Drew is quite ready to make a start. I think Mulholland is the most likely candidate after not working the past weekend.
Expect 2 of 3 at the minimum which means clinching on their field (which would be pretty sweet). Thursday’s game is the only one where the Ducks have decent shot if Peterson goes the whole game.
And I kind of think this could be Horton’s last year. He’s done a good job resurrecting the program but little else. Good for OSU if he stays though.
Peterson will pitch game 1 and Mercer game 3. Not sure who is game 2, but since Fehmmel has been shaky, might be their best chance to match up with us by putting mercer against thompson
Well nevermind, Peterson will not start game 1.
https://twitter.com/The_Real_Bob/status/862417724261249024
So I’m not sure if he got moved to game 2 or if he’s injured?
Maybe they’re considering game 1 an automatic loss and giving themselves their best shot to win 2 and 3?
On it’s face it looks like Horton is conceding two games and hoping Peterson comes through.
The UW strategy wasn’t bad. Start the reliever and have the starter come in later. Who ever gets the start on Thurs will be on short rest. UO’s bullpen could be spent in one game if the Beavs hit.
Should not be a surprise to learn that Peterson will pitch Friday instead of the opener on Thursday; he threw 113 pitches last Saturday due to the rain that weekend.
So, he’ll face ?? in the Friday game. I can’t argue that Mulholland could get the start, but wouldn’t mind Drew with a pitch count of 50 and then Mulholland.
Against the ucks, Luke is likely to go 9 full. Pen is gonna be fresh for whoever goes Friday (and Saturday, although I’m beginning to believe Jake T. won’t need much help…..again that is vs the ucks.)
Fehmel won’t be starting this weekend.
Interesting article on the decline of another dinosaur business model:
http://www.cnbc.com/2017/05/10/streaming-television-live-may-threaten-espn-bernsteins-todd-juenger.html
And on a side note, isn’t the owner of this Comany a former Beav?
https://www.google.com/finance?cid=662925
Market cap of 72 Bil. You’d think he could spare a few bucks to finish the stadium, etc.
Must be that smart car technology.
Yeah, the co-founder and current CEO Jensen Huang is a Beav.
Anybody have his number/email?
Ihavefuckyoumoney@iwipemyasswith$100bills.com
Also went to Tree. Probably gives coin there and not to OSU.
He donated a lot to our engineering center
That is great.
We could use some competitive cheer while you are at it.
That’s a great company for the long haul, btw. They are way undervalued.
I wish someone told me that 5 years ago when they were like $18 per share. At the current price and P/E they are overvalued and overbought (SSTO) right now. I’d be more inclined to short it to fill that gap and maybe then go long.
Who needs money? ???
Interesting that lake oswego’s Jake Dukart decommits from ASU for baseball and then also receives a football offer from OSU at QB. Could be a really nice player to pick up for both our baseball and football team, if the OSU offer is what persuaded him to decommit.
Maybe we’ll get our QB soon…..and better yet, one of the nations best baseball players.
His film looks pretty good accurate arm and athletic. Does he have any football offers?
No other offers but only because he sucks at throwing a football. lots picks and no mobility or awareness. He can throw it through a wall though
His film is opposite but ok.
MBB. Ethan Thompson gets some love. Take a guess why I think this guy is spot on.
http://247sports.com/Article/Wednesday-Question-Favorite-recruits-in-the-2017-class-52700956
bg, you didn’t point out that the next guy on the list, Isaiah Washington, has chosen to play at Minnesota?
Lots of articles out there about this Civil War series, but I’ve noticed that even if they are coming from a mostly Beaver perspective there seems to be the obligatory comment about the Ducks still having a chance to make the playoffs.
Of course, they could run the table, but I don’t see it. It may have even been Eggers who broke down some stupid scenario where they finish 16-14 and 35-19 with a comment like “will they get snubbed like the Beavs” did last year?
Until they actually start winning games I don’t want to hear it. It’s another average season for them, they have one superstar starter and nothing else. It should be all Beaver talk in regards to college baseball. I want silence from the media regarding Nikegon unless they actually do something like win this series, quit kissing their asses.
They have to be nice or the coaches will give then the silent treatment.
Given the drivel Fortune Cookie spouts off, the silent treatment sounds great
It’s starting to clear a little down here. How is it in the valley?
