While we may not always agree, and some of you are flat out dicks, still, Merry Christmas. I’ll be back on Tuesday after the holiday.
General thread, but curious to hear what your Christmas playlist consists of or anything personal you wish to talk about.
My playlist is The Pogues (Fairytale Of New York), The Kinks (Father Christmas), Leon Redbone and the Vince Guaraldi Trio on repeat. The great thing about jazz, is that when it’s done well (i.e. melodic and rhythmic, without an attempt to redefine harmony for the sake of it and/or notes played per second) it’s fantastic, and can be replayed for days.
Go Beavs.
Ps. If you’d like to donate in the Christmas spirit, use the link in a thread below. My policy moving forward is to only add donate buttons on threads that took time/effort to create. This one didn’t take much.

Buon Natale a tutti miei fratelli castori!
Speaking of the Pogues, it’s highly fucked up Kirsty MacColl was chopped up and left for chum, and the case was ignored just because a billionaire did it. Angelic/gritty voice lost to some fuddy duddy dick bag.
Actually, she was crushed by the impact, not chopped by the screws. She saved her son.
While I agree that the pussy grabbers of the world don’t need to be getting the breaks nobody else gets, there’s not much anyone can do about it, and the pussy grabbers know this.
Bad Religion’s Christmas songs album. So awesome.
I think I found it on YT. Is it 20 minutes?
Never heard this. Will report back.
Hey WFO, did you see Billy Joe Armstrong is selling a bunch of gear on reverb.com?
Grab a LP Jr!
I hate Gibson (that 16 degree head stock angle/tuning…ugh), but I know you like them.
I’m digging the Bad Region album.
Yeah it’s less than a half hour total. They just did great versions of traditional Christmas songs. The Ramones intro to White Christmas is awesome too.
That’s cool that Billy Joe is selling some of his stuff. I actually need to take a couple of my guitars to the luthier, I got a chrome cover set of DiMarzio Super Distortions for my Les Paul and a set of Duncan Quarter Pounds for my MiM Tele. The Tele has a different set of Duncans in it already but I’m looking for more output. I also picked up a Squier 51 that is pretty fun, strat body with a Tele neck, humbucker bringe/single coil neck. The pups are kinda meh so I’m gonna throw some cheap GFS pups in.
You should learn/know how to do all that stuff yourself given your skill set with tools!
The Bad Religion album was fun.
I’ve done some simple pup swaps and I’m decent at best with a solder gun. I’m gonna have him put in new CTS pots and stuff too. I find wiring and shit kind of annoying work so I’m generally ok farming it out.
Don’t need no stinkin’ soldering gun to maintain my acoustic! BTW: still working on that alternating bass stuff, good progress.
Happy Christmas to all AB’s, even the grinchiest among us can recognize we’ve been blessed in areas more important than Beavs athletics.
Music? Yeah, Vince Guaraldi is hard to beat, a little Elvis for change of pace.
Where you at on alternate bass?
Pretty comfortable with alt bass, long way to go with adding melody beyond simple pattern pockin’
Merry Xmas everyone. Cool to hear there are other guitar players on here. Selling my Line 6 Vetta 2 (bad ass amp) but I upgraded recently (thanks to my lovely wife). I’m a metal head (and love lots of other music) but if you want to hear truly great xmas music= Celtic Woman! Beautiful music!!
Go Beavs!
I’m a mostly metal/punk guy myself. My main amp is a Peavey 6505+ 112 that I set on top of one of my Mess vertical 212 cabinets when I need more hit.
I’ve been enjoying my Orange Micro Dark head in to one of my Mess cabs too. Some cool heavy tones at reasonable volumes.
Mesa. Mesa. Mesa. Fucking auto correct.
Of course they’re other guitar players on here. Where i live u would almost be hard pressed to find someone who couldn’t at least strum a few chords. Its one of the easiest instruments to learn.
It’s actually on almost every list of most difficult instruments to learn (well).
But, define “learn”. To me, knowing 3 chords isn’t learning of an instrument. If that’s your definition, yes, it’s easy. Guitar is top 10 most difficult to master, and that should be the goal of any player.
What is your go to guitar?
Jazzmaster.
You guys?
’91 Gibson Les Paul Studio. Black, ebony fretboard, chrome hardware.
I’ve been having some fun on my Telecaster lately too.
I think I’m gonna get in to a semi hollow 335 type guitar too.
Jazzmaster right now as well. Also have a Tele and an Epiphone Les Paul that actually plays incredibly well.
LTD or ESP. I like active pick ups too!
Go Beavs!
Merry Xmas, you aholes! Snow on the ground now and cold as hell. Oh, right, hell aint cold.
The MBB is winning some games, low teir opponents. How they going to do in conference? Maybe win a couple?
The Bible is as confused as you are about hell. It’s fire. It’s dark abyss. It’s fire. It’s dark abyss.
Comeon, Jack, it was just a joking comment. And the Bible is confused about most things.
Gimme some of your educated observations about MBB!
We suck. Our spacing is terrible because we can’t break down the top of the key with any handle on the roster, and Tinks refuses to plop Tres at the high post to compensate (or create, as it were). We can’t run a simple press break, and everyone knows it. But then, most of our passing makes me cringe in fear for another turnover.
About the only thing I can say we’re good at is creating chaos in transition D after a turnover. But that doesn’t have to be a large number in order to be better than the mean.
To be sure, our spacing could be better for a variety of reasons. Our guards are impatient with what cuts they do run with purpose. We start our O from half court… a lot. I want to scream when our point O calls a play from half court then picks up the dribble. Our posts fight for leverage instead of use motion to create it by taking advantage of the soft zones in the D.
And I don’t know why I’m watching Stevie play point D. He makes Berto look like D POY. The rest of our team is actually decent on D, but they’re always scrambling to help on his player. I call that D the Box-and-None. I’ve watched at the end of games when all we need is a stop or two, and the game is done. And he’s in there contesting the ball. Why? He’s a fast traffic cone at best. Even if he’s scored 40, you take him out for D, because he’s a huge liability. About the best we can hope for when he’s in is that his man will take an impatient shot because he’s open early and often.
Unfortunately, I know more about the bible than I do about hoops.
Damn, I was hoping we could have an airing of grievances, but I guess that’s every thread every day in here! As far as Christmas music? I stick to Sinatra, Dino, Elvis, Ella and yes Vince and his trio.
Merry Christmas!
Dino sucks. He sounds about as drunk as he is on every recording.
Bing is the man or the standards.
Bing was a psychotic asshole to his kids, fuck that dead bastard! Dino was a benevolent drunk. His Christmas album from ’65 was a classic. Plus he boned the gorgeous Phyllis Davis from “Vegas” in his later years.
I understand that Bing was your typical Catholic dad. But he could sing.
Dino’s Christmas effort was a money grab by a drunk, and it sounds like it.
I don’t care about Rat Pack conquests.
Dino has great style. He was also a great dad according to his kids. The old singers could actually sing.
Yes, but we’re talking specifically about his Christmas album. His parenting skills have zero to do with that.
Doubtful that some of us are flat out dicks, other than those who downvote any post of mine that references Trump.
Happy holidays, subtle political reference there…
Always enjoy the discourse, wish I could add more, but i got nothing.
Charles Arthur’s, Back at the Christmas Shack has something for everyone’s playlist. Enjoy.
Happy Christmas to all you flat out dicks, all you round in dicks, and every dick in between.
I haven’t listened to “A Very Special Christmas” in a couple years. Guaraldi is nice in that the music isn’t the obvious Christmas purgatory most pop songs are. I have a hard time listening to Christmas music for whatever reason. Maybe it’s because they start playing it in October now.
What is wrong with this world?
Anyway, look up Bach’s Christmas Oratorio for some of the real goods.
Oh… Ella’s Christmas album is always good.
But she’s Ella.
Motown had a decent effort back in the day. I never owned it, but most of the tunes were pretty good, as I recall.
What’s really disappointing is that Phil Spector’s Christmas album was probably the best of the all on the pop front.
That Spector album is great.
Darlene Love/Christmas is the highlight for me, but I like it all.
You calling that Motown Christmas solid!!?? That shit is epic. It’s not Christmas for me until the temptations version of silent night drops.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=D0mgk0KgI0Q
Epic? ok
FootbalScoop reporting that GA was a “strong candidate” to join SMU staff under Dykes. Until he wasn’t – they have since “moved on” from considering GA…
Wonder what skeletons they found in his closet…
Something to do with bones?
I love how in the last thread Angry@angry called bullshit on someone’s dickhead email response from Scott Barnes. Then said poster copies and pastes response and a screenshot.
Seriously, you Riley ball sweat lickers should go back to Benny’s house where you’re free to pump each other and Riley’s ego.
Apparently you missed this part which is written at the top of each thread
“A critical view of Oregon St athletics”
Critical does not always equal negativity
You’re so negative about angrybeavs! :p
I still don’t believe it’s real. And Angry should change it to “An asinine view of Oregon St athletics”.
Sometimes it is.
Get over it.
Small-timers are as small-timers are.
I don’t think A@A did anything but cal it fake. It’s a decent call, since anyone who has any decency wouldn’t be as stupid as that response. But what I’ve seen with POTUS and Mike Riley’s re-re-hire makes me believe that decency is dead.
It’d be easy to send an email like that from “Scott Barnes.” You just create an email account with that name on the account. The Email didn’t even list the email address it was from lol.
It’s far from solid proof.
OMG.
Who would do this? You homers are insane.
It’s not solid proof, but why on earth would he go that far? Do tell.
Because this is the pinnacle of thought for small-timers. They don’t have anything solid to prove their cultist emotionalism is valid, so they have to try to make others appear to be on their level to equalize everything in their minds.
It’s also how disrespectful the small-timers are of Oregon State University in general that they would do something like that in the name of proving they are the true believers.
That’s not the first time we’ve seen a dickhead response from the AD in an email. How many examples do you need?
This is also true.
Been listening to alot of soul christmas music. Ray Charles Spirit of Christmas album gets played alot. Mostly really good but with a couple of duds. There’s an especially rapey version of Baby Its Cold Outside. Overall I give it a B+.
https://youtu.be/7pc-RtIQpKE
The “rapey” comment is awesome and why I love this site. Thanks for all the info NB. I like to be depressed about the Beavs in a timely manner.
There’s a Louie Armstrong/Velma Middleton version (one of several) that is my fave.
Love the old standards by Dino, Bing, Sinatra. But my favorite by far is Gene Autry’s stuff. Makes me feel like a kid again, and my kids love it too.
Have a Merry Christmas every one.

Merry Xmas Angrybeavs. Baby it’s cold outside is an appropriate song here. High of three tomorrow!
Always start with this. My best friend is a cellist in the Boston Pops and I have an autographed copy.
Sleigh Ride. Composed for the Pops while riding in a train during one of their tours in the late 40’s
Although Bill gets sick of playing it, he says the first performance is always pretty cool to open the folder and play off the original score with notes written by the original performers of this American classic.

Jordan Poyer pic six off Brady ?
Sweet! Intended for Cooks?!? : )
Wonder if he kept that one? “Yeah, this is from Christmas gift from a guy named Tom Brady, he was pretty good back in the day…..”
Wishing more that Beau Baldwin was the hire. Guaranteed that staff would be Riley free and without the distraction that will hang over this staff for years. Smith with Heyward or Lake proved a fantasy and we are left with some strange Smith/Riley chimera instead. Problem is we all know what happens when you open Riley’s (Pandora’s) box. Ask Nebraska who fell to its worst lows in a century.
The final kick in the nuts comes when Riley loses Crocker to Cristobal and Oregon after telling Smith he thinks he can get him. Unfortunately no spot left on staff for an ace recruiter because Riley’s retirement parachute is more important.
Barnes and Eggers all spewing the same nonsense that Mike wants to finish his career at OSI and somehow he is owed that. 40 years ago he was at Linfield and he still won’t let Oregon State move on.
Young coach in Smith. Same old thinking in control of the Athletic Dept with Riley as Asst. HEAD COACH. Bring me Crocker and I’ll shut up and let things play out. Otherwise recruiting is looking worst in the P5.
I always thought Baldwin was the best choice, by a hair. I liked Smith after seeing him speak and got behind the hire. Didn’t know he’d bring Riley back, though. Jonathan Riley is a real thing.
He’s even bitten the OC already:
On having Mike Riley as assistant head coach: “I called my wife last week and said, ‘I got to do a home visit with Mike Riley last night.’ Pretty cool. Coach Riley has head coaching experience, has had success offensively here at Oregon State. There’s a tremendous amount we can learn from him on this place and how we can be successful in Corvallis. I’ve learned a ton from him already.”
Lindgren clearly bitten by the Riley zombie.
Weird how the media had to ask him his opinion on the hire. It’s like they’re appealing to authority (“See, the OC likes him, so it’s a good move.”) not realizing the fact they have to talk about Riley, and justify him no less, is exactly why it’s a bad move.
Ok
Yeah… no sale here without 20/20 hindsight.
I’d willingly back 9 if it weren’t for the Riley flub.

Thank you for processing my request Mr Scotty. You know, it’s funny, some of my favorite alcoholic beverages are Scottish. Your people make some great products!
Hopefully the name Scott doesn’t trigger you with the whole getting booted for Scott Frost thing
Merry Christmas all of you AB degenerates
Seasons Greetings Beaver Nation!
I was given instructions by my employer, Mr Ed Ray, that it would be a good idea to take some time to converse with the fans, in an open forum such as this. He thought it might help ease some of your concerns with having a new head coach around this great place.
He told me a dot com site called readdit.com has a feature called “Ask me everything” and I thought that deal sounded pretty interesting.
So, over the next 24 hours, while I’m waiting for my family to arrive for Christmas Dinner, I would like to invite you all to ask me everything. I will be responding to all of your questions by tomorrow evening.
It’s a great day to be a beaver! Go Beavs!
Sincerely, Head Coach Riley
I see where I have entered my passcode credentials on the wrong line. Could one of the website handlers please remove that for me? I don’t want to have my identity stolen or my bank account compromised.
Thank you!
That would suck if someone stole your identity, when it takes you so long to find it every year :-(

Comment of the year.
What is Bitcoin?
Well you know, that’s one of the great questions out there at this time, isn’t it? I think it’s great that we live in an environment that is so open to new ideas that people are allowed to ask such great questions, while also keeping in mind that our answers affect alot of really terrific and impressionable young people, so we have to be careful in how we respond to those questions. Thank you for asking
HCMR,
Are you going to miss chowing down on Runza’s at Memorial Stadium? Any chance these become your go to post game meal after a victory? The replacement for the old In N Out’s. Probably should tell Jon about your plans. Did you sell the house in Lincoln yet?
PS, If you have Lindsey over, you better have Dee rustle up some extra vittles.
And thanks for the Gopher game. That was fun.
Well Gopher, that’s alot of questions. Dee didn’t really spend any time in Lincoln, since she knew I was coming back after my mid-western sabbatical.
I’ve decided this year to defer to Jonathan for post game meal decisions. I think he’s ready for that task(at least I hope he is. He keeps trying to sell me on 5 guys in Corvallis. If he keeps that up it will be my choice again, In&Out.
I didn’t have a home in Lincoln to see(see above)
Lindsey came over tonight, actually. She’s the one person who can’t seem to let Corvallis go, even moreso than myself. Speaking of 5 guys……..
And, you’re welcome. Everybody from Minnesota keeps telling me how nice I am. In fact, pretty much every fan base in the B1G(and Northern Illinois) has been really great to me. They all have been telling me how sad they are to see me go. It’s really a pretty special deal out there.
One of my all time faves, for Xmas or just music.

We’ve also underserved the blues on this playlist.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_HsPhij7-Q&list=RDJ_HsPhij7-Q
Ok, we’ve covered music…what’s on the menu tonight? Traditional turkey? Traditional prime rib? Chinese take out? Other?
I’m going for mole enchiladas, cumin-spiced chicken, pinto beans, tortilla chips.
Beer can chicken on the Green Egg tonight. Prime rib roast tomorrow.
Pablano peppers stuffed with smoked pulled pork shoulder, made at home refried beans & cheese cooked over hickory till the cheese melts & the peppers get some good charring on them. Love me some Mexican food!
Damn, “I like Mexican food a lot,” that sounds a lot better than carrots….I’m not doing homemade refried beans….but the mole sauce is homemade with New Mexico chiles….
It was an all day project, but the end result was amazing. Did I mention I put home made salsa that I canned earlier this year on them before stuffing my face with them. They key to good home made refried beans is putting some beef lard in it. I’ve never done a mole sauce from scratch…
How about the smoked pulled pork shoulder? You did that too, right?
How does one get invited to your house for dinner? Bring carrots?
Here’s a recipe: Chocolate, cinnamon, clove, oregano, garlic…. very simple, great flavor:
https://www.saveur.com/article/Recipes/Enchiladas
The recipe I linked is the one I’ve been using for several years….everyone loves it…one woman called them “….life-changing enchiladas…” Very simple, complex and subtle flavors….great. I add chicken broth to make it go farther, salt to taste….
Yes, I smoked it for 12 hrs at 225 degrees (this thing was 16lbs) over alder. I really like the mild earthy flavor it gives. I like to marinade it overnight in a Chipotle pepper marinade (store bought) I’ll have to give that mole sauce a whirl next time I want some Mexican food
Yes bring carrots! Can never have enough ( believe it or not, eating them helps curb my cigarette craving)
Too damn funny! If I have this carrot, nicotine seems less attractive…..I’d bring some Nat Sherman Lights too….just in case the carrots failed.
Now that sounds good!
It was amazing, I make them 3-4 times a year, for special occasions.
Cooking a big family dinner tomorrow (sous vide beef tenderloin) so Chinese takeout tonight. Huh
Sous vide……..ive been thinking about trying this for several years. Im just intimidated by it for some reason. everyone i know who has a setup says its simple, bit I can’t pull the trigger just yet. Any suggestions?
https://www.saveur.com/article/Recipes/Rosemary-Rubbed-Beef-Tenderloin
I think paying attention, using a meat thermometer, and making sure you don’t over do it.
Cooking meat with fire, smoke, charcoal or dry heat is my jam. Sous vide is a whole new ball game. I’ve eaten a few steaks done sous vide then finished on a 500+ degree charcoal grill or a white hot cast iron skillet. Both were some of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten.
I was always a grille guy but I started cast iron pan searing steaks and I don’t think it gets any better. Cut the time in half and it works for elk too.
Don’t be intimidated, kick it’s ass! Seriously though I was really intimidated by beef brisket( really any of the more expensive cuts of beef scare me). I just read up( like literally 3-4 hrs) on the various ways to smoke them. Went & got one and smoked that sucker like I knew what I was doing. I used pecan wood for the subtle sweetness the smoke gives. It’s all about paying attention to what your doing.
What do you use for a smoker?
I use a Masterbuilt(I think) electric smoker. It’s like 3ft tall by 2ft square. Nothing fancy. It does have a window to see your food, an interior light and a built in meat thermometer. All digital controls. I love this thing it makes smoking meat so easy. I used to use my old charcoal grill to smoke meat and man I seriously had to babysit my food the entire time, trying to keep the temperature right
If you can do brisket on a smoker you can cook almost anything. Brisket separates the men from the boys when done properly. Did you use a Texas crutch method?
No crutch, I just patiently waited for it to get over the stall by itself. Made sure the little water pan stayed full to help the brisket not dry out. I’ve cooked several since then and none were as good as the first. I really think each brisket has a mind of its own and you can only do so much to try and replicate a flavor and smoking time.
I use a crutch only on the biggest briskets. I’ve had big ones lose up to 10 degrees on a stall because they were just too big with so much fat rendering. I don’t do many briskets anymore.
The last few years I’ve been hammering tri-tips In The smoker. Super easy and super fast. Its my favorite cut.
Nice, I have a masterbuilt smoker and the wife bought me a green mountain pellet smoker too.
Love tri-tip. One of my favorites too.
You guys are talking my language. I’m going to be doing a huge batch of ABT’s today in my smoker.
I’m going to have to petition my lady for Mexican food tomorrow. She’s talking about some herb chicken type thing, but after all this Mexican talk I need some in my belly.
BTW, Mcmaryion threw for 342 yards and ran for 2 TDs in their bowl victory (10 win season).
Does he have a year left or is he done? Nice season for him.
One more season.
Is he staying? Do they have a med field for him to study there?
I think he did better by Tedford than he would have under Riley (who was HC when he was recruited). And I also think the league has a little to do with his success but glad it worked out for him. Must be so nice after the stillborn Andersen “era.”
Maybe he will pull a Riley and come back…
Not sure the league mattered. QB rating was 136 the season he played a lot at OSU and 139 at FSU.
TD and INT ratios were close (2:1 at OSU) and (3:1) at FSU. But he was a year older at FSU, so you’d expect that bit of a bump from age.
Fresno State plays at Minnesota next season. I can’t get away from the OSU runaways!
You talked once – when the season seemed more promising and in-game attendance potentially worthwhile – about an AB tailgater. I think there could be some good eats at such an event…maybe even some constructive criticism about OSU football…
I was in then. I’m in now.
I’ve got a few stuffed peppers left, should I overnight them to you?
Why is it you are upset with me again, Mr. Angry?
I recruited your favorite QB to Corvallis several years ago because I recognized his talent before anybody else did.
You should be thankful I have returned. Have you seen OSU QB recruiting while I was away?
The gum chewer’s got ya there, angry
14# prime rib for tomorrow, so it was pizza and breadsticks tonight.
Damn…14#?!?….garlic mashed?…Cab? Merlot?
That’s always to great to follow with a nap, then round 2….
Yeah it was the smallest one they had at cash and carry. Might have to cut it down and cook what will fit in my Dutch oven. Just an excuse to make it again soon.
Garlic mashed reds and the wife’s garlic sauteed green beans. Leaving the wine up to the wife. My bother brought a bottle of Makers 46.
Makers on the rock(s)….or in an old fashioned. Mmmmmmm
Cash and carry is the greatest place to buy meat….ever. I get their flyers ever 2 weeks. That how I buy tri-tips, 80 pounds at a time unpeeled. I trim them my self, and use the trimmings for elk or deer summer sausages.
Love that place. I’m fine cutting up my own steaks so I buy a lot there. I get my baby back ribs there too.
Extra jus and some horseradish sour cream!
Oh yes sir. Home made gravy from the drippings.
This! Nothing better than gravy made from the drippings. My youngest girl always requests “gramma’s famous gravy” (made from the drippings)when we visit her.
/recipes/2009/12/perfect-prime-rib-beef-recipe.html
This created the best prime rib
Damn, I need some input from some of you gourmets. I grew Serrano chilis and tomatillos this summer, I have a lot of both frozen. I need a recipe for jalapeno jelly (gonna substitute serranos obviously) and a recipe for green salsa. Post up any of your favorites.
I have some smoked, canned, pequillo peppers from friends that grow their own peppers…fantastic. I helped them once. Just smoked the peppers for 10 minutes before the canning process. Difficult to stop eating them….
I helped a guy build a pepper roaster rotisserie thing a few years ago. Looked like a big bingo ball cage, he roasted the big peppers (Anaheims?) In it. Turned out pretty cool.
As far as the jelly goes, use the recipe for jelly that doesn’t set the first time. I firms it up (more gelatin) and ads lemon juice (a hint of sweetness that’s different from sugar). That’s how my wife makes hers and it’s the best I’ve ever had.
Good info, I’ll search around for a recipe that fits the bill. Or if your wife knows of one that she bases her’s off of I’ll just follow it.
I’m pretty sure she uses the Ball Blue Book of Preserves recipe. You will use Sure-Jell gelatin to make it. On the sure-jell package is the “remake” recipe. It is used if your first try didn’t set properly, but she uses those extra ingredients (a little extra gelatin plus lemon juice) in the first batch. For whatever reason the peppers need a little extra gelatin to set hard. We like it firmer because we eat it with a smear of cream cheese on a quality cracker. Absolutely delicious.
That’s exactly how we eat it. So good.
Sure-Jell is a pectin. As such, it needs a balance in acid, fruit and sugar in order to set properly. Sometimes it’s the fruit itself that keeps it from setting. Most of the time it’s a lack of sugar.
In the case of peppers, there’s a lot of water in them, and their skins are usually waxy. So you should be simmering and reducing them in water before mixing them with the pectin, acid and sugar.
But it looks like you’ve found a workaround that you like. To each their own.
Yup. Pectin not gelatin. My bad. The lemon juice is the secret, that’s not a secret with our recipe. It just ads something extra that we enjoy.
Have you tried In&Out’s Chopped Chilis burger off the secret menu, WFO?
Dee served it to me for breakfast while you were in Nebraska.
LOL
Sums up Mike, Dee, and WFO

epicurious has a good recipe for pork chile verde.
mmm… tomatillos
Most of the recipes for salsa verde are quite similar. requiring boiling or broiling the tomatllos. Don’t boil them, the broiler will char them, Wich is what you want (if you like BBQ, smoked food). I imagine if you got it set up right you could cook them on the BBq or smoker. That’s all I’ve got, follow wichever recipe looks good ( but feel free to add stuff to it).
Agreed.
The best chili and salsa bases start with a cast iron pan roasting all the fruits, spices and a chunk of protein in the oven or smoker. It’s a lot easier than blanching or peeling skins, and it adds flavor.
Homemade chili powder is done the same way with dehydrated peppers, cumin and spices to taste.
I’ve gone back to cast iron the last several months, it’s the way to go.
I like to do steaks in them, flip them once then put the pan in a hot oven to finish. Make rosemary or sage butter in the pan after, and char lemon halves in the same pan. Never thought of lemon on steaks, but with the butter(s) its really damn good.
Yep, that’s how we’ve been doing it too. Wife makes whipped butter/garlic/lemon zest for after they come out of the oven. I use butter and a splash of olive oil in the cast iron and get it so hot that you think it’s gonna burst in to flames.
I have so many tomatillos I think I want to can some green salsa. I like the sound of cooking them in the smoker first.
Hey Angry@Angry:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Y5GtaTrPHM
“Angry@Angry” is the one in the green top, skirt…..
The guitarist on the right (camera right) looks like a Lou Reed fan….
Odd, most people would look at CJ and say, “Why isn’t Dee Dee in this video?”
One of my all time favorite songs came from this band. I could listen to Rockaway Beach over and over. Especially that first line.

That song and video are as bad as your baseball opinions.
WFO, IMO it’s the most punk of all the Christmas songs.

Got one piece of Beav gear: a overpriced $30 T-shirt. It’s nice!
BUT, did we just unwittingly donate to OSU athletics? I really don’t want to donate to Barnes after reading his email.
I have decided I am no longer donating or attending OSU athletics games/contests. Any donations made in the future will be on the academic side of the university.
As for the AD and anyone else claiming those of us deciding to do so are turning our backs on the student athletes? Oregon State University athletics has turned its back on it’s student athletes by not being committed to building winning programs and instead hiring on the cheap in football and men’s basketball which are the only two revenue generating sports programs. I refuse to continue being subservient to an asshole AD, a clueless university president and large donor base that continues to be stuck in the past.
Fire away bitches.
So you won’t take free ticket?
You have to take the ticket. If you don’t accept it then trash it, some unsuspecting innocent is lost to the small-timers’ chumpism.
Nope
Agreed, Barnes sounds like a major Dick and he’s an outsider so a big FUCK Off to Barnes and Riley! Merry x-mas you filthy animals
Barnes being an outsider is irrelevant
5 days ago I broke my 12 year old Oregon State coffee mug I got near Christmas well over a decade ago.
First thought after initial annoyance was “oh well, new beginnings..life moves forward”
Then I remembered nit with Oregon State. Riley is back as Asst Head Coach and any new mug I buy will be 90% like my old one as time crawls in Beaver Nation and little has changed entering 2018.
Buy a new mig now and in 2022 with Riley still as Asst Head coach and close to 17 years after I first got this mug and life as a fan we are expected to deal with is largely the same.
Not pleased with that Scott Barnes. You shoild have told Coach Smith his hire was about new beginnings and new generations. Old generation has to go. Been around 15 years past their welcome. Parker, Riley all those guys. Have a ’67 Giant Killer type event for them next and wish them well and farewell. Stage 10 Clingers.
That crazy astronaut chick who drove across the country in a diaper thinks Riley’s a crazy clinger
Klinger with a K if you’re referencing M*A*S*H
Big thanks to those of you who made donations this year/today.
Decided to tackle cleaning out my closet since I had not done so after my wife passed away just over 6 years ago. Came across the newspapers I kept from the 2001 Fiesta bowl, 2003 Vegas Bowl and 2006 CWS. Need to get off my ass and frame them before they get damaged. Merry Christmas to me.
Before any of you degenerates chime in, no I did not find any dead prostitutes in there. Those are under my house.
I don’t think anyone would have thought you kept dead prostitutes in your closet.
That’s unsanitary.
They like to be called “Ladies of the Night”.
You know that how?
Doctor Detroit
Male or female prostitute?

Off topic I guess….Vince McMahon of WWE is apparently considering resurrecting the XFL….I have no idea why because it failed so miserably the first time…
With the right business model a spring football league can work. McMahan over sold the XFL and when it turned out to be nothing but a 2nd rate pro football league people were disappointed. You can trick people.
Sell the league as a spring league where you can watch former college stars that didn’t make it in the NFL, where you can watch older NFL players who are no longer able to stick in the NFL, play in smaller stadiums (MLS stadiums for instance), and make a deal with a streaming service and you can make a go of it.
*can’t trick people
2nd rate is being unfair to 3rd, 4th and 5th rates.
That league sucked. I watched one game, and I audibly cheered when the first team crossed the 50… late in the 2nd quarter.
Oh, you watched 1 game and it wasn’t what you hoped for so the every game must have been exactly the same? Guess what? If you watch college football and the NFL you see bad games every week.
If the XFL was 5th rate than college football must be 10th rate because rather you want to admit it or not, the talent in the XFL was far superior to the talent in college.
It was poorly planned and gave teams little to no time to prep prior to the season. Teams had a month to implement a playbook, integrate an entire roster, and cut from 70 to 45 players. High school coaches get more time. By a few weeks into the season the product was actually pretty good but they’d already lost the viewers by then due to poor planning and overhyping a product that was in preseason form (at best).
That said, they shouldn’t just bring the XFL back. They should do some creative things to make the game different that we don’t see in the NFL or college.
1) Let 1 player motion towards the line (CFL and Arena rule)
2) Use college high school hashmarks and make teams kick extra points from whichever mark is closest to where they entered the endzone (rugby rule) or make it so teams have to go for 2 so extra point isn’t even part of the game
3) No fair catch was smart, keep that rule
4) Kickoff from the 30 (or even the 25) to encourage returns
5) Maybe find a way to integrate modified Rouge rule from the CFL where if the ball bounced or is caught in the end zone and is not brought out of the end zone (no touchbacks) the kicking team gets 1 point and the team gets the ball at the 35 instead of the 20 (kicks that go through end zone in the air come out to the 20).
6) Shorten the game to four 12 minute quarters to fit into a smaller TV window
I am sure, there are many other creative ideas that could be included and make the game unique in some way.
Nothing you write, except that the product was pretty good a couple weeks in, is incorrect. Your assumption that I said I “only” watched one game is cute.
Calling it a clusterfuck would be inhumane to clusterfucks… for many of the reasons you state, and many more that are much worse. Try explaining the revenue and payroll systems for the league.
If you’re talking about the product being the actual game-play, I don’t disagree. Most of the problem with that league was that was only 30% of the actual product. The rest was a waste of time for people who actually like to watch a game called football. It’s not like you can’t google “skimpy cheerleader outfit” and get your fill on this interwebs thingy. Why do I need to tune into a football game in order to watch strippers?
The other issue is the use of cast-offs and tweeners. A relegation league would also suck. Supplementing a developmental league with some cast-offs and tweeners would be better. Steal from the NCAA for your labor pool. It would both interest potential fans and allow them to forgive the early stages of league development.
And when have you ever seen me write the words, “college football is a great product”?
It’s not.
That’s half the frustration in watching the one team I watch for purely emotional reasons. There’s so much bad play, that sucking worse than the opponent, let alone failing to take advantage of the obvious, will make you scratch a hole in your head from wonderment.
It wasn’t an assumption that you watched one game, it was a safe assumption given the wording you used.
“I watched one game….” implies its all you watched.
‘In one game I watched….’ would imply you watched multiple games.
Maybe, you should work on your wording to be more clear? Just a thought.
And I did explain the revenue and payroll issues, which is why you don’t use NFL sized stadiums and instead use MLS sized stadiums.
You proposed something someone who has business plan would consider when structuring outlays. That’s something different, and we can add it to the list.
I think it’s safe to say McMahon is not good at this. He has only gained because of monopoly and wasted labor. So expecting him to be competitive in an actual market would be foolhardy at best.
I still think he’s going to end up with a minority position in the Panthers. It would be a wise investment for anyone with cash to burn. Let someone who knows how to run a business do it for you (and others), and you sit in your booth at the stadium and have the camera pan to you when you cheer or are about to lose… and you get to put “NFL Owner” on your letterhead.
For anyone interested, the sous vide beef tenderloin was a tremendous success. Super easy. Really good. I’ve done top sirloin steaks as well. The texture is amazing.
https://imgur.com/a/BoJ01
Looks pretty tasty to me!
I’d eat that! What sous vide machine do you use?
Ronco…………and if you order now we’ll send you a second all for only $19.99.
I know a guy who has a ronco rotisserie oven thing that he bought just to do prime rib on. He swears its the best thing ever.
Anova. On sale at Amazon for $99. You also need a tub and a Food Saver machine to vacuum seal the meat. They say you can use a Ziploc bag but I wouldn’t trust a $120 roast in one. (They’re also to small)
I remember seeing some on Amazon during black friday. Ill take a look at that one, thanks.
Read an interesting blurb about incoming CB DeShaun Wilson, enrolling in January, planning to major in mecahanical engineering, likes OSU academics and Corvallis, sees himself in Corvallis “3 – 4 years…” sounds like a high achiever who may be thinking of graduating early.
He could play early at nickel
That pick 6 by Piter was pretty nice, just watched highlight here:

Poyer
That’s tougher than mechanical….
Few have even heard of it, fewer tried…
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all AB’s. 2017 was a mess… grand total of six wins in the sports that really matter. WBB and MBB are ok…. but essentially no one gives a rip. Quick without research…. who one the national championship in those sports? See… Anyway 2018 stands to be a big improvement. JB
PS: For those of you that want Beaver gear without supporting Barnes or the BASF consider 90’s vintage football gear available at http://www.pettibonehead low-performance labs. Hurry for special 2017 close-put specials.
“Essentially no one give a rip?” Wrong there, Buddy
Like I said, projection.
Wbb was South Carolina. Can’t remember men’s, North Carolina?
Yeah… UNC.
I smell projection.
Interesting move by Vince McMahon. I think he’s positioning funds in a pass-through in order to make himself available to be a minority position in an ownership group which will bid on the Panthers.
But if he is recreating the XFL, he does have a niche play that can succeed. And we’ve discussed it here. Imagine rosters of ~60 players… 8 teams… paid ~$50k on average. Now imagine these rosters aren’t relying on NFL tweeners and relegation for their talent pool. Imagine the league is made up mostly of players who would otherwise go to college to play football.
If McMahon himself has no say in the labor management (and if he ditches all the superfluous garbage that drove viewers away the first time), he could make a play with a developmental league. If played well, ownership could make profits from relegation and trades to the NFL.
Going against the NFL is just throwing good money after bad (assuming your money is good in the first place). Going head to head with NCAA football? That’s some low-hanging fruit right there.
What are you going to do if you’re an athlete who can’t play in the NFL for three years? Are you going to go to college and play while you’re given an education as your wage? Or are you going to take a decent salary, maybe supplement it with licensing deals and concentrate on your chosen field instead of muddling your head with all that school stuff?
I also think it’s lazy to assume a new XFL is the best choice here. If you’re going to be even a minority owner within a management group, you need to have all your ducks in a row. Not having control over a failed venture that piggy-backed of the NFL’s success would be a bad mark. Now he can offer it up for sacrifice to sweeten the pot.
Jonathan Coachman is bonkers to think he’ll buy a team outright:
http://uproxx.com/prowrestling/xfl-vince-mcmahon-carolina-panthers-nfl/
He would never be accepted by the owners, and he just doesn’t have the managerial chops to go against the coalitions that will assemble to put in bids. His best bet is to get a piece of the pie and enjoy the perks without being the face of ownership.
Noticed there’s an “Angry Beaver Grill” opening up in Corvallis soon. Heh
Not for long. I filed a lawsuit.
Millions on the line for sure.
Angry just curious, why sue? On what grounds?
It was a joke…
You might need to explain what a “joke” is.
Seriously.
knee slapper
You’re a real hoot at parties, huh?
A: I’m not a hoot at parties. Just curious, what grounds do you have to say that I’m a hoot at parties?
It’s going to be in the old church/Sivetz Coffee building across from Safeway. Someone who was not in the hospitality business tried to make it into a beercade last year. He failed. But you can tell what his day job is by looking at the space.
Hope not..two friends of mine from OSU days.
?
Does OSU have a locker room tradition where they slap a sign or other object as they exit the locker room?
If not, I think they should install a beaver tail hanging off of a horizontal bar, for players to jump up and slap as they make their way out of the locker room and onto the field.
Set it up so it can rotate around the bar if slapped hard enough.
Is that lame?
Pettibone tried to get a tradition going by touching a bronze cast of a beaver just outside the old locker room. It was gone when Riley took over.
For reference.
http://www.statesmanjournal.com/story/sports/college/oregon-state/2015/11/25/season-rank-among-worst-osu-history/76380830/
Geesh, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little…I was there for a good part of all that ‘losing’, except for ’75. But I guess when you are used to it, you get numb to the pain, which makes the last stretch so much more difficult to tolerate; your expectations are higher as you know this team can do/be so much better because you have seen it! I hope we can pull out of this death-spiral quite a bit sooner.
Don’t forget, OSU had 28 consecutive losing seasons from 1971-99.
Don’t forget! Because that would mean accepting mediocrity/Riley.
To be fair, that article was written in 2015. I just linked it because of the pic of pettibone touching the beaver.
I think the author just looked at win/loss record also. I wouldn’t rank Pettibone’s ’95 team the third worst in Beav history. I think that was another Rocky Long defense that played with their “hair on fire”, only gave up 237 points in an eleven game season. Lost four or five games by less than a TD. Unfortunately, one of Pettibone’s most incompetent offenses and scored about 10 points a game.
Yeah… people try to sell Riley’s 98 season as something special because of the CW win and a five win season. Reality tells us that four wins came against some of the historically worst teams in history. Granted, we had years we couldn’t beat those teams. But we also had a couple Kragthorpe and Pettibone years we didn’t lose to those teams.
Pettibone got smart and essentially scheduled us against us or us against less-than-us for non-cons. It didn’t help some of his teams, but it sure helped the perception of Riley’s first tenure.
And the 28 years were not 29, as the article reports.
You’re right, Pettibone and Kragthorpe each had 4 wins seasons that could have easily turned 6-5 with a couple of breaks. What’s amazing to look at was how incompetent the offenses were during the losing streak, rarely scoring more than 200 points in a season. Defense was not the issue in some of those seasons.
iirc, the 71, 74 and 89 seasons were by far the best years during the 28. 89 was a couple plays in the CW and a bad call by the ref in Hawai’i from being a winning season. And if it wasn’t for that stupid Russia Bowl that USC scheduled, they would have played and beat ASU, giving us a tie for 5th in the conference.
And then we fell apart in 90. What a disappointing year that was.
The bronze Beaver was a great motivating factor in helping my players achieve those back to back four wins seasons. It is available along with lots of other great OSU football memorabilia at my website http://www.pettibonehead low-performance labs.com. Lots of year end specials, don’t delay.
PS: I especially want to unload that statue. It takes up room in the garage, weighs a ton and scares the grand kids. Make an offer.
They used to slap the ‘Bronze Beaver’ coming out of Gill onto the field. Maybe they could kick a replica of Mastadons ass on the way out of the VFC?
I’ve heard there’s a monkey in the locker room and they spank it before hitting the field. Riley put that tradition into place….golly gee whiz.
A duck riding bitch on a Harley is 19. That list is horseshit for that alone.
Is it because the dog and the duck are just sitting on a stationary Hog?
Here’s an article SI did Sept. 1 2016 in ranking the best College Football Entrances:
https://www.si.com/college-football/team-entrances-ranking-ohio-state-clemson-virginia-tech-michigan
Reporter to Kyle Kempt: Were you run out at Oregon State:
Kempt to reporter: “They told me I wasn’t going to play there. Yeah.”
He’s seeking an additional season, based on the run-off rule.
https://twitter.com/RandyPete/status/945741077671239680
Yeah… so?
Makes him a quitter, similar to McMaryion, eh?
That’s still you all saying it.
My stance all along is that attrition happens… good luck… I’ll cheer for you. Your stance is that we would have won the Super Bowl if attrition did not happen.
In this case, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an NCAA rule for this called the “run-off rule” because it’s so common. I wouldn’t be surprised if GA, McGiven or any of the OSU coaches at the time wouldn’t help in his appeal if asked to do so.
But no… everyone has to burn bridges, and it’s always got to be someone’s fault for something weird and contrived in the bottom of that rabbit hole.
To be fair, when someone does actually burn bridges and quit, OSU rolls out the red carpet for him. So I can see why you all might get confused by these really simple concepts and choose conspiracy instead.
Horse pucky!
Jack, unfortunately your head is so far up your ass you’re not getting any fresh air. Pull out, take a couple deep breaths and re-consider what you are saying.
BTW….Happy New Year!
HNY to you too.
It’s not horse pucky. It’s simplicity.
You want to whine about the why and create conspiracies and hypotheticals about it all. Your position is so beyond this tweet above, that you need to cling to even something as normal as it to validate your continued obsession with the rabbit hole you needlessly created.
It’s your rabbit hole. I’m just dropping rocks in it to how deep it is at any given moment.
Sorry, I keep forgetting how good you are (at everything) and that the rest of us are morons.
On this topic, I agree.
I shall now feign humility in order to deflect my ignorance of the obvious… obvious ignorance… wait….
Sorry.
You’ve already read that line. Hold on….
What you said is what I said, but it’s not blah blah… blah, why are you mean blah… I didn’t say that blobbity blah… well don’t you think you’re a smarty pants blah blah blah… ah… here it is!
I love you too.
That’s right, I guess he should be brandished a ‘quiter’; should have just stayed there and accepted the dysfunction going on around him as a fact of life and lesson learned. One thing, among many others, that asshat of a coach we had was not, was an evaluator of QB’s. For sure, had we had some continuity at that position, it would have gone a long way to help stabilize that team.
Official roster still shows Christian Wallace as a member of the team while Collins has been removed. Anybody know if Wallace is still around? Maybe they bring him back at RB if Nall and Tyner are both gone?
Maybe he changed his mind with smith? Might not matter really if the kid isn’t very good at football.
His best bet might be to change positions. I think he’d fit in as a linebacker. Has the size and speed and apparently isn’t a good cover corner. Don’t think he’s fast enough to play rb.
I’m really impressed with Jedd Fisch’s ability to develop quarterbacks. They don’t seem to make many bad decisions and they have beautiful throwing mechanics.
Commentators also remarked about how strict he is in the film room.
