  1. With the cold and wet weather expected, runs will come at a premium. Both teams used to playing in these kinds of conditions so hard to say it’s an advantage for the beavs. I’m expecting a low scoring ball game, something like 4-2.

Any team that puts together a big inning will take the game. Early lead will be key.

  2. Stetson lost to UNC today 7-4. Right now the puppies are down 2-0 bottom of the 2nd with 2 outs 1 on first for Cal St Fullerton. UW pitcher is already at 47 pitches.

  3. We are big favorites- $360 to win $100, over/under is at 10.

Go Beavs!, and get the game over before Jethro Tull tonight!

  4. Thank you ESPN for sparing us the graphic we had to see in the regionals regarding Luke. They finally got it right.

    • They lead the broadcast with it for about 1 minute. As Luke took the mound they showed him closeup, talked about the SI story and shared that he didnt get drafted(but didnt mention any of the other 6 guys who DID get drafted, because apparantly that’s not newsworthy)
They did say that Luke could potentially end up as a free agent somewhere or overseas in Japan, but I think that was more about potential options and not based on anything Luke has said.

      • Yeah, it seems like they’re almost sympathetic to Heimlich. They’ve said a couple of times now that not getting drafted doesn’t mean he does not have other options….free agent, independent leagues or other countries.

  5. Does anybody else’ ESPN online feed keep randomly switching over to track and field?
I keep thinking the game got postponed for weather, but then find out the game is still going but i have to click back into it

  6. Yeah it switched to ESPN2.
Nice to hear announcers who like OSU. Said we have an SEC atmosphere (I think our atmosphere is better, but these shills do work for ESPN).

  7. RBI double for Rutchsman followed by an RBI triple from Nobach to drive him in. 8-0 good guys in the 7th.

Maybe it’s just me but honestly I have not been that impressed with Minnesota so far. Pitching or hitting.

    • Figures. As soon as I write that the Minnesota pitcher gets two K’s to end the 7th and their bats get going here in the 8th.

  8. Looking for an active Golden Gopher forum and coming to the conclusion that nobody besides beavergopher gives a crap about UM sports

  9. Oregon live has put up a lengthy and slanted piece on Heimlich. They describe It as a summary of his senior season but some veiled shots are taken and they are selective with facts.

    • Another article on Heimlich? At what point will they just shut the fuck up? I can’t wait for the “where is he now” article in about five years. Maybe we get lucky and the paper is out of business and Canzano is out of a job by then.

      • None of them write well or generate interesting story ideas so they write polarizing tropes for click bait. It’s easier than researching, thinking, honing one’s craft.

          • I’ll just assume you dont see the organization of attacks on Luke. Or that you dont notice each article by the Oregonian is essentially the same paragraphs reorganized with diffrent authors over and over and over. And that with each article nothing new is brought forward other then updating his stats.

          • Since it’s apparent that you’ve never read or studied Alinsky in any way, I’ll give a quick recap.

He started as a researcher of juvenile delinquency, and he wrote a book with a bunch of rules for tactics.

By virtue of the word rules, “anything and everything to hurt” is just a ludicrous thing to say… about an advocate for juvenile rehabilitation… in an ongoing argument about juvenile rehabilitation.

        • At the risk of sounding like I haven’t cancelled my subscription, Ron seems to have a measured, journalistic voice generally, including this one. He parrots some old, stereotypical viewpoints but doesn’t trot them out as his own; for him to turn into Canzanos useful idiot Morany or into the screecher himself would surprise me. There is also some reading between the lines that might be done when he points out that the University and MLB representatives have no comment on Luke outside baseball, probably means they all understand and respect record is sealed.

  10. In typical “We Are The Boss” fashion, ESPN flashes a backward K when Kwan goes down in the b8, but forbids display in Goss!

And then fail to show the “curtain call” for Luke as described by Parker and Big Jim on radio,

      • A report from a fellow ab at Goss is that, yes Luke did come out of the dugout to acknowledge the love from the crowd.
“He waved his cap and the roar was thundering”

And Lundeberg tweets: “After heading into the dugout, Luke Heimlich came back out for an encore”

Parker, when Luke came off, “Luke Heimlich, one of the finest young men I’ve ever been around in this program…”

  11. good guys take it! 8-1 final. Hopefully big game Bryce shows up tomorrow evening and the Beavs punch their ticket back to Omaha.

    Go Beavs!

    • I Never had one, but found out about the 5th inning my dad called them right after the original story came up to cancel and told them why. My dad was a juvenile probation officer for several years, he knew there was much more to the story then they were telling and called them on it.

    • I live out of state and haven’t had one in years. Would like to know what else we can do to fight them. They are turning this into fans vs victims when that couldn’t be further from the truth.

We can be compassionate for victims while still challenging the injustice of outing someone who accepted a plea as a juvenile and will now be labeled an offender for the the rest of his life due to their irresponsible reporting. They have misused their reach to ruin his life.

      • It struggled due to tech, as all did. But it was on the rise in 2011. Circulation has fallen from 240k to 80k since the Newhouse family bought it. They’re concentrating on click-bait and digital cut and paste. The average visit to their digital site is less than three minutes.

        • That circulation is daily. I don’t know the Sunday circulation. It was 170k in 2015 after being ~300k in 2011. I would guess somewhere around 110-120k at the rate they were going.

          • Jack, BTW, that piece I wrote the other day that you commented on stating that I made it sound like it was about me….well, guess what….it was in part about me. That is, if an actual victim who was directly impacted by molestation has the capacity to forgive, then people who aren’t directly affected or haven’t been victimized should consider the importance of forgiveness because they’re outsiders looking in. Given the fact that I forgave my my cousin for what she did is a strong act of compassion and apparently you missed that point.

          • That is, if an actual victim who was directly impacted by molestation has the capacity to forgive, then people who aren’t directly affected or haven’t been victimized should consider the importance of forgiveness because they’re outsiders looking in.

I missed the part where s/he said s/he was or wasn’t a victim. I just read the pain in the person’s words and noted your lack of compassion while you excoriated him or her about making it all about them… while you made it all about you.

          • I also noted that survivors relive trauma differently and should be shown compassion for irrational responses that do make it personal for them… as I am doing now.

          • But if you want to call survivors pieces of shit, as you, cj, A@A and mammothboner are doing, you just go ahead and do that.

          • But if you want to call survivors pieces of shit, as you, cj, A@A and mammothbummer are doing, you just go ahead and do that.

I’m the bad person here… always have been.

          • Jack don’t put words in anyone’s mouths here. The only time “piece of shit” came up was in YOUR POST(s)!

Please get back on your meds….

That was boring and stale and not imaginative.

            Derpology 101

          • Jack,

Nice assumption that I am referring to victims as pieces of shit. The majority of his critics are not victims/survivors and in fact the majority of survivors that I’ve encounter both inside and outside of OSU are not ill willed towards Luke. Unless we’re talking about Brenda Tracy; she’ a piece of shit.

          • Nice, try. Again if you have reading comprehension the fact I mention the majority of the critics not being victims means I’m not talking about victims.

          • Exactly what I thought. You provided no proof beyond assumptions. Also, calling one specific “victim” a POS =/= calling all victims a POS.

            Own your assumptions.

          • Yeah… except that some of us know that adding an s t the end of some werdz makes it plural.

But then, you’ve always tipped your hand as a “hate the player” type. That you would go this far with a little prodding from other like-minded losers is no surprise.

  12. We all know the bats won’t stay hot forever, and at some point the Beavs will need to battle through a tight 1 run ball game to win it all — remember the Michigan game back in 2007, and how the defense performed big. If this series goes to a third game, Abel will need to keep it under 4 runs.

  13. Well, pretty much the outcome I expected today. Luke is too good. Larnach made a momentum killing snag. We will see if Fredrickson has it tomorrow. He struggled with control for first time this year against fUCLA, but made just enough pitches to keep them in the game.

  14. Hey BeaverGopher, you didn’t happen to be wearing a Minn hat and white/orange OSU shirt at the game today, did you?

  15. Back to Luke’s “curtain call”, Cadyn Grenier tweets:
“Community loves a kid this much, even wanted a curtain call after. Not a reason in the world anyone in pro ball should be worried about picking him up. Just more proof right here”

  16. It is a pleasure to watch excellence in the game of baseball.
You have to be very picky to something the Bears did wrong today.
Luke was sharp, Nick provided the spark, Larnach and Ad’s the bomb.
Plenty of defense gems (Grenie, Larnach, and Kwan)
    Team looks very focused.

    • I don’t think they care about any punishment. MLB management certainly take back wife and girlfriend beaters after suspensions all the time. They only care about the backlash that would come from signing Heimlich. Like the general public, they just see the sensationalized side of this case. Forget nuance here, it’s not happening.

  17. More like, “if we select him, dumbshits who only read headlines might not come to games and hurt our bottom line. Oh wait, that’s what we did. We are the dumbshits.”

  18. Rewatching game this morning. Fourth inning right before Taylor hits double to score Anderson, anyone else notice him saying something as he starts to swing? Can’t tell if he says timeout or something else. Maybe he said, “rbi!”

    • The tv guy said he did call time out. Thought it was funny the ump either didn’t hear or ignored him just before Taylor hit the double.

  19. Guy on beaver twitter this morning complaining about r-rated ads and then further discussion of horrible ads on TV generally, especially with sporting events.

Yet, Luke Heimlich is the pariah.

    • Yes, indeed. Unlike Canzano’s bullshit about how MLB teams care about the little girl so they didn’t draft Heimlich, Eggers tells the truth, he wasn’t drafted because they were worried about possible negative publicity, nothing more. I wish Eggers could debate Canzano on this, but then I don’t want to give that ass-clown any more publicity.

      • I would hope the down votes are directed at me and not Eggers. He’s the only guy willing to provide fair coverage to OSU in the Portland market.

        • I don’t get who would down vote your post and link. Must be the anti-Heimlich assholes that have been showing up here lately.

          • I don’t get the whole idea of voting for a post.

If you’re too cowardly to say out loud that you like or dislike something, then voting is a meaningless endeavor.

    • There was a story up on espn yesterday about the game/Luke. Overall mostly positive with a few troll posts in the comment section.

  20. Angry I know you don’t like me… let’s do a vote on who is banned from this site, me or Jack. I’m more than willing if he is.

    • No one should be banned unless they out people’s personal information, or make serious threats of violence.

There are mute buttons if you just can’t stand someone, or if you’re an adult you can just skip over people you don’t want to read.

In the end, it’s an anonymous blog. Why the fuck should anyone of us really care what some faceless, nameless people think?

      • It’d just be fun for jack to put his money where his mouth is. He thinks he’s smart and he thinks people care about anything he says.

        • I think the former, yes… especially when you’re around. I think my dog is smart when you’re around.

          He displays logic.

I couldn’t care less what people care about. I wouldn’t be free if I was so inhibited by a vanity so droll.

      • Just because he makes some offputting snarky comments doesn’t mean his opinions doesn’t matter. Yes it can get boring. Yes sometimes it seems like hes talking down to people. But some times jack has some good/great takes. Hes an acquired taste. But who wants a blog with only one voice? I came here for something diffrent from the other circle jerk/do no wrong type blogs and online communities. This is the only blog that allows all takes on beaver sports without the fear of getting banned because you won’t goose-step with the rest of the beaver yes-men.

      • I’m pretty sure sure I’ve spoken against angry on many occasions about many things.

You might not have noticed, because they involved reason. But they happened.

      • He gives him free legal advice: As your attorney I advise you to drive at top speed and it’ll be a Goddamn miracle if we get there before you turn into some kind of wild animal. Are you ready for that?

  21. Meanwhile, we’re hours away from the Beavers potentially getting back to Omaha. Let’s talk about banning maybe say…next week?

Looking at Eugene T&F on ESPN…pouring down there.

  22. Beavs trying to delay this game in case the weather forces the game to get called till tomorrow and Meyer gets used up?
Why pull Fehmel on an 0-2 count?

  23. Beavs to CWS :D

Respect to the Minnesota program. Played better than the final scores indicated, and their fanbase isn’t loaded with a bunch of racist assholes *cough*LSU*cough*

  24. What a great finish. Able still riding high in confidence into Omaha, and now Chamberlain too after a stellar performance with the win. Pitching staff feeling great. Kudos to Minnesota for coming in and competing and keeps laser focus on the task coming ahead. Enjoyed the professionalism not to partake in injury prone dog piles.

    • I hope you are right that these freshmen arms have turn a corner and if they can keep it up and pitch to there potential this team will be hard to beat and sets up for a good year next year too.

  25. Now beavergopher doesn’t have to be torn anymore and can fully back the superior rodent ;-) (just trollin’, love ya bg)

  26. Was at the game. Great atmosphere.

Beavs did what championship teams do, grinded out a win. Minnesota’s reliever Meyer was pretty lights out for 3 innings. Wipeout slider. Once the beavs got a second look at him, he was toast. Coach left him in too long. He’s going to be a good one. Prob pick up more velocity as he grows into his body frame.

If the beavs play like they did this weekend, they’ll be right there to play for the title.

      • At the game as well – great grind out win. I think Meyer was their closer brought in early correct? Guy threw more pitches (~80) than their starter and you could tell was getting tired. understandably.
Crowd really started getting into around the 6/7th inning down 3-2 and you could feel the momentum shift.

The Minnesota fans we talked to were down to earth and friendly – nice people. Reminded me of Beav fans traveling across country for Baseball/Football games to tailgate and have a good time.

Admittedly, I didn’t watch that many games this year, but has Chamberlain pitched like that all year? Guy was filthy at times. Also curious – from the fans watching from home, was the strike zone as small the ump was calling it? Or was he really inconsistent? Super gutsy win…exactly what you want on your way to Omaha!

          • He was a little inconsistent, but to be fair, that game featured some of the best pitching I’ve seen in a college game all year. Lots of movement and speed change. It would have been a tough game to call perfectly. Both teams benefitted from some bad calls. Hard to say if one team consistently got the upperhand because of that though.

          • I agree NB, generally well called game, if you’ve umpired at all, it’s tough. There were some missed calls but it didn’t feel like a one sided affair. It certainly didn’t rise (lower?) to a Greg Street fiasco.

  27. What a fucking gutsy win by this team. This is the challenge they needed before going to Omaha, battling back from a 3-2 deficit against a beast of a pitcher.

  28. This was the challenge they needed. I kept thinking if they just breeze through the regional & super regional they might have a choke game in Omaha, because of overconfidence. They were tested and ground out a win. Perfect!

  29. Heading home after a month on the road just in time for CWS. Ready for my recliner, air conditioning, family and my dog. Things are going to get serious for the boys in Omaha. Regionals seemed easier than league play. JB

  30. Great game…just enough patience to win a game where execution/fundamentals were missing for once.

Best part of the game: NO DOGPILE! That’s a pretty bold statement right there…

  31. I admit, I haven’t seen any UNC baseball this year, but their resume is really not very impressive. They played and beat several bad teams, but lost to most of their quality opponents. Beating Stetson seems to be their biggest achievement, but Stetson also was a team that seemed a bit over ranked based on resume as well.
I keep seeing people say we had an easy street route to Omaha and UNC will be our first real test, but Minnesota had a much better resume(and improved as the season went on) than UNC, in my opinion.

Anybody here know much about this year’s Heels?

    • All I know about this year’s Tar Heels is that I hope they follow the same proud tradition of their past teams in losing to the Beavers in Omaha :-)

    • I haven’t looked at UNC much. Who else do we get on our side? I know the winner of CSF and UW is one.

I think there’s enough talent on any given team once they make it to Omaha that anyone can get hot and win it all. We already know there’s enough talent for anyone to take advantage of a vindictive strike zone.

    • Easy Street? Hmm, Beavos beat Washington, UCLA, Stanford, Minnesota, Fullerton, LSU.

Minnesota gave them a good test as a lead in to Omaha. Once there, it will take more of the same grit…of course Greg Street staying home would be nice too.

  32. Watched post-game interview with John Anderson and Micah Coffey. Classy guys. I understand BG’s conflict. Anyone else notice Minnesota has an assistant coach named Patrick Casey. John Anderson re: Luke – he’s a pro pitcher. If only.

  33. OT…Got a call this morning at 6…my buddy’s float plane didn’t make it back to town last night…ceiling too low to search today. If he’s alive he’s got to survive another day. A lot of scenarios possible, few of them good.

        • Yeah my brother had been working with the troopers and USCG. He’d pulled his gps from is 185 that had all of his flight slug trails…they used that to zero in. They didn’t let anyone know they’d found him until this morning.

      • Yeah we are pretty devastated….my dad, brother and niece were flying with him earlier in the day. Everyone is pretty numb right now.

          • No. Of course we are all speculating. He’s such a careful pilot, that it’s a bit shocking. Airplanes don’t just fall out of the sky, and it’s usually operator error. We’re hoping it wasn’t. He went down in a place where you can almost count on seeing brown bears, so it’s likely he banked over to show his passenger. If he stalled and didn’t have the altitude to regain air speed…ugh. It’s hard even speculating.

This is the same guy that survived a night in the ocean clinging to a tote lid. Search for “Stonie Huffman.”

            He seemed invincible.

        • Sorry, GWH. Awful stuff.
Is there a link to the story in the paper explaining what happened? Would like to read it. Condolences from AB if you need anything write me.

  34. Disappointed in the writer, he seems to assume that Luke plead guilty only because he did what he was accused of. He should become more familiar with the information available on the topic of plea bargaining.

    • He said within the piece that he didn’t want to rehash that. He wanted to concentrate on the consequences of the backlash and the inability of those who would advocate for law and order and compassion to understand that they make their own arguments moot.

He’s essentially saying, “Hey! Some of us know only the facts that we had to go find, so we can’t make conclusions. If you want to conclude something on either side, that’s on you. But maybe you should look in the mirror when you tits attack you tats, and vice versa.

  35. Well, that was a great game last night. Actually two well played games. My Goph’s aquited themselves quite well. You could sense the apprehension and Casey was pacing like a caged cat late in the game.If the ball Coffey smoked in down the first base line in the 7th was a few inches to the left……..? .Imagine if Madrigal’s base running error cost them the game? He never screws up.
Remarkably, I was not that conflicted. I wanted a well played series and Beavs going to Omaha.
Wish granted. I talked to coach Anderson in the airport and you could sense the sadness. Not his usual upbeat self. I feel bad for him. I did find out from from him that there will be a rodent rematch next year in Surprise, AZ.
Goss was awesome. College Fenway. What a great venue. Last game I watched there it was aluminum bleachers and a chain link fence you could hop over.
How about the the two frosh pitchers? Those two are going to fun to watch the next two years. Think how good Meyer will be when he hits puberty!
Congrats to both teams for great seasons and a fantastic, well played Super Regional.
    Go Beavs and finish this!

    • Meyer reminded me of a right handed Kevin Gunderson. Small in stature but needs a wheelbarrow to carry his sack. Filthy stuff.

    • “I talked to coach Anderson in the airport and you could sense the sadness. Not his usual upbeat self.”

He has nothing to be sad about, he has a young team with lots of talent. Hell, any other regional and they would be in the CWS in a sweep. They are better then most of the teams playing this weekend except the beavs.

    • Wow, Fullerton choked that game away. Liner goes off the 2nd baseman’s glove for a hit (it would’ve been a tough play). A throwing error from pitcher to first allows the tying run to go from first to third. A routine grounder to the SS that he booted. Could be wrong but I think they committed four errors in the bottom of the 10th. Sac fly ends it and the Leg Humpers are off to Omaha.

  36. Bracket 2 for the CWS is set. Beavs/North Carolina and Washington/Mississippi St. All 4 Super regionals for bracket 1 are going to a decisive game 3 on Monday.

I had heard on the radio on Friday I think that if the Beavs advanced to the CWS and played UNC that game would be on Father’s day but that doesn’t make sense to me. It makes more sense for bracket 2 to open the CWS on Saturday and bracket 1 plays on Sunday. It would give all teams closer to the same amount of rest before the CWS. If bracket 1 plays on Saturday those teams would only have 4 days off until the CWS. For this reason I think the beavs will play on Saturday. Start times I believe will be noon and 5pm pacific. The guess here is 5pm Saturday as OSU/UNC is a sexier matchup than UW/Miss St imo.

  37. Last tidbit for the night………………

In the 5 postseason regional and super regional games at Goss, the Beavs outscored the competition 49-8

  38. Quote from coach Anderson this morning in the Minneapolis paper. “Heimlich is perhaps the best left hander I’ve seen.” Keep in mind he has been coaching here 37 years.
