Angry hoped for 2,000 but now comments are closed on the previous thread, let’s move it over here. Go general and see how those Sons ‘O Mitches do today. Nicebeaver should see faster loading now!
Lattery takes the mound with Weber as battery mate, Macias starts in LF and Guerra rests his legs in the DH spot.
GO BEAVS!
Mark Buchanan behind the plate today, wonder if he’s grown up since that fiasco when he said he was “beaked” by Casey. Poor baby.
First, sorry oob, can’t be first on your own thread, thems the rules
Re: Buchanan, maybe Weber let’s a fastball past him that incidentally beaks blue, for old times sake
Oh man, why did you close it? Did it stop loading?
Edit: just tried, and it loads fine for me. You guys need to upgrade your internet so we can hit 2k!
Loaded just fine, but at the bottom said “comments are closed” and would not accept new comments.
I saw the same. Maybe hacked by Nuc? :)
It would have gone full Y2K
Bazanna tanks a hr over the right field bleachers. Holy shit he smoked that ball. Leadoff hr in bottom of 4. 7-1 beavs
Cal hangs on 9-8 and sweeps UCLA in LA. Ducks lose 11-4 and drop their series at USC. A Beavs win today would move them into 3rd place in the standings.
Stanford about to sweep at ASU and would probably all but wrap up the Pac-12 regular season title. They’d have a 3-1/2 game lead with 6 to play and a favorable schedule.
I’m becoming a fan of Mikey, hustle to get on base in the b8 is the third or fourth smart/hustle baserunning move this weekend.
Miiitch with another series win, let’s hear it haters, then change your diapers and reload for next week
Good for Mitch and the team. Nice to see the bats stay hot for another series. Too bad they weren’t hitting like this for the month of March.
If they finish second in the conference, tied for second even, how do they not host a regional?
Great turnaround from the gloomy days of Stanford sweep.
Coaches should be scouting city colleges for a minimum of 2 new starters going into next year.
Relief pitching by the beavs outshines the Utes. Lattery had his best start by far despite giving up the hr and plunking a guy in the head. If the bats can stay like they are, starting pitching might be the downside of this team at this point. Even on his best night Sellers is a 5 inning guy at most. Kmatz has been a bit better the last few weeks but I think he leads the Pac in HR allowed which ain’t great. Lattery as our 3rd starter is definitely not ideal. Outside of today, he’s went beyond 3 innings 1x this year if I’m not mistaken. They have outperformed what I initially thought coming into this season. I predicted somewhere in the 5-7 range so props to them on where they’ve gotten to so far. The series win is obviously the important thing here but really this is a team the Beavs should’ve swept so it’s hard to not be somewhat disappointed.
Interestingly, Kmatz has a better era than Sellers and more innings pitched. Sellers has dropped below 5 innings avg outing on the year. That’s one of the worst out of all the pitchers with 12+ starts this season…likely puts him in line with the day 2 and 3 starters, not the ace’s. He’s now in 2nd with k’s on the year.
Kmatz has been better than Sellers for quite a while. We just got to see the opposite of what usually happens, and Kmatz got the run support this weekend.
And yeah… we should have swept them. But D1 is going with the hype on us at #15.
RPI at 31 after today
And 3rd in the PAC, barely.
and just out of 2nd. Barely
FOOTBALL:
Some outfit called “West Coast CFB” reports that Draft Kings has posted the line for season wins as follows:
OSU: 8.0
USC: 9.5
nike: 9.5
UofW: 9.0
Utah: 8.5
UCLA: 8.5
Anyone think that 8.0 for the Beavs will not go up by the end of July?
The beavs have the most favorable schedule out of all the pac teams.
In my opinion it would a tremendous failure to only get 8 wins this year. What we return on both sides of the ball and the new talent coming in I’d say at least 9 wins and a ceiling of 11 with a miraculous season if we could run the table
The PAC should be competitive and entertaining next year in league play. But the Beavers do seem to be not just underrated, but disrespected.
Anyone else coming off a 10-win season with the number one D in terms of points (20!) and yards allowed (333), with this running back stable, and an upgrade at QB, would be getting more positive attention.
They can obviously improve on sacks and maybe INTs, but OSU, with its internal depth and player development, could be better, while other programs are banking on transfers and quick change. It worked for USC on O with QB and WR additions from across the country, but it remains to be seen if a team can rebuild a team D in similar fashion. I think the questions for the D are can a likely faster and more disruptive front and good safety depth help out a less experienced CBs? If the CBs are getting torched regularly, OSU’s D should be fine.
8 wins should be the minimum, with that based on a couple of losses with crazy or high TO numbers. 9-10 wins seems very realistic. Toughest games – Utah, UCLA, UW – at home. Nice to have Stanford at home, just because they seem to give the Beavers fits. I think its about time for a CW road win…
*aren’t getting torched…heh heh
Underrated and disrespected……plays to the advantage of those who follow the team closely.
If anyone here finds a legal way to bet that 8 win number in Oregon they ought to post it here. I don’t think Spirit Mtn (BetMGM) has a line up yet and have never been able to phone them to find out; gotta be on site to bet and, it appears, to even see their line.
I think the ducks will make a deal with the devil . . . oh, wait … Lose games they are expected to win but defeat the Beavs. Last year’s game was soooo humiliating.
Ducks had very poorly coached ST, under-achieving D…then they got comfortable and cocky.
Beavs remain at #15 in D1 poll. ASU drops out and Stanford moves up to #4.
Beavs into an odd position the rest of the year. Blew the shot at hosting and can’t move up in the RPI all that much but can in the rankings. Could get a little boost with a series win at UCLA and winning a couple games in the conf tourney but will for sure drop playing Western Carolina and drop a bunch if they lose a game to them. So that might net out to zero.
RPI needs report says the Beavs have only one loss to give to stay in the top 32 RPI.
It could be a case where the Beavs are a ranked as a top 15 team but are on the road for regionals. Whoever the host is, they will not be happy. Could give the Beavs that chip on the shoulder they need to get through the regionals. The “disrespect” from the committee.
I don’t have high hopes for the tournament chances, regardless of seed or site that OSU lands on.
The pitching just isn’t there to make a run this year.
In a sense, I’d almost prefer that they don’t host so the young guys get a taste of how important hosting will be next year. Might help keep that chip on the shoulder through the next season.
Totally agree. Last year was a huge missed opportunity.
Spot on regarding the pitching. Feel like the tournament favors teams with pitching, particularly starting pitching, vs those with the high powered offense. Really need the starters to go 6-7 innings and not 4-5. Sellers will get rocked by these good offensive teams when he’s throwing 25 pitches an inning. Gives the opponent way too many opportunities to capitalize.
I do like what the offense has been doing the last 3 – 4 weeks. Bazanna, Forrester, Guerra and to some extent McDowell, have really anchored this offense. Kane has been fairly consistent and Kasper has been better as well. Let’s hope they continue to stay locked in now that we’re getting later into the season.
Exception being the ‘18 Beavs bashing their way to the title with starting pitching almost a no-show, albeit at the CWS…earlier in the tourney Heimlich was locked in. The bats definitely trending up but pitching trending down or staying very average. Don’t expect this team to go beyond a regional win, but if they can channel that 2007 magic, maybe with a bounce or two they get into a competitive Super regional. We’ll see!
Go Beav Baseball!!!
This year’s team is quite an oddity. Team batting is one of the worst hitting teams in recent memory and the pitching staff has no standouts. The defense has been solid but not elite like previous years.
If you go off OPS. last year was .860. This year is currently .852. Pretty similar.
is that conf play only?
Anyone else concerned that DJU isn’t head and shoulders above the competition?
https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2023/05/oregon-states-starting-quarterback-competition-is-a-dead-heat-when-camp-opens-in-august.html
That’s all standard JS coach speak
Not yet but something to keep an eye on. Worst case is that BG wins the job and we have 2 talented backups.
I would be concerned if he came out and said DJ is our QB in May
The fact that DJU is head-to-head with Gulbranson this early in the process is a good thing. He’s in a entirely different system than what he played. I think we will see him pull away in the Fall.
Interesting to see OSU offered 2 different JUCO WR’s this morning. Wonder if this means there was an injury they need to backfill for, or if they’ve just decided it’s time to get some more talent in the WR room now that spring camp is over?

Strange because that was seemingly one of our deepest positions
Is it possible that a couple of wr switch to cb and these guys come in to backfill depth Sat wr?
Maybe planning ahead for the portal?
It might be one of our deepest positions from a number of bodies perspective, but I’m not really in love with our overall talent level in the WR room. Gould and Bolden are starters, but I haven’t seen much from Dunmore that makes me think he should be entrenched as a starter. From there, it’s a bunch of unproven guys who haven’t really played all that much. They might be good enough to fill out that depth chart, but I don’t get to see them at practice. Maybe the coaches don’t like what they see?
Or could just be we’re going to learn of some catastrophic injury to one of our main guys. Hope not
If DJ or someone can throw them open, that changes a lot.
Yeah I am concerned about our WRs for sure. I really like Bolden and Gould but behind them are a lot of guys that have had a lot of chances and to date haven’t done anything with them. And as I’ve mentioned before – both those guys are really small. We badly need some size to complement them.
JDV was the #1 receiver (by volume) at Rancho Cucamonga, with one Silas Bolden hot on his heels.
East looks multi-tooled.
Both played with Ivy.
East has a low center of gravity and looks really comfortable in his long stride… which he gets to quickly.
I was expecting a more Mike Williams or Housh-like tape, given his size, but he looks more like Larry Fitgerald, with that trunk.
Revisiting the oddsmakers guessing at how many wins for each Pac team form above, I’m going to list the top 6 teams and their toughest games by non-con/road/home and you see who it looks like should win 10 games.
USC-
@ND,
@Oregon,
home UW, UCLA, Utah;
USC has a backloaded schedule and all of these games are in the last 6. If WIlliams is hurt they may flounder, if they are peaking they should win the old south easily.
Utah-
non-con Florida at home,
@ Baylor,
@OSU, @USC, @UW,
home Oregon, UCLA;
Rising i a factor but Utah has likely the toughest schedule in the conference and a lot of tough road games.
UW-
non con @ Boise St
Mich St
@USC, @OSU
home Oregon, Utah
UW will need to have Penix healthy all year or they won’t come close to what happened last year.
Oregon-
non con@Texas Tech
@UW,@Utah
home USC, OSU
Nix needs to be better than last year for them to realistically win the conference and I don’t think it’s possible, and he needs to stay healthy.
UCLA-
non con @ SDSU
@Utah, @OSU, @USC
UCLA is replacing a 4 year starter at qb with a true freshman and an all american rb was drafted, 7 wins max for Chipster, UCLA is in a stealth rebuild but no one in LA admits it yet.
OSU-
non con SDSU at home
@Oregon
home UW, UCLA, Utah
Beavs have the most favorable nonconference schedule, the best road schedule possible, and the best home schedule for a real shot at 10+ wins and think 12 is actually possible.
Injuries are always a factor and several schools need to keep qbs healthy or their season falls apart instantly.
Utah already faces this with Rising as a question mark for Utah and they have 7 legitimate tough games. How healthy will he be going into the fall?
UCLA has a soft schedule as they miss both UW and Oregon this year, but all 4 tough games are on the road, and they will have some struggles inserting new skill positions across the offense.
UW may be better on defense but it is unlikely they can repeat offensive numbers from last year. UW was playing with house money and under the radar most of the year, less pressure. Now they are the favorites and will get each team’s best shot. Penix will not throw 4600 yards again and the offensive line is replacing a couple of starters. More sacks, more duress and more ints for Penix, No heisman for UW either.
Oregon will be tested early at Texas Tech and possible exposed again in non con national tv. Ducks will try to be run heavy but they will revert to big play attacks that put Nix at risk for bad ints. He reverts to the norm without Dillingham calling plays. Nix will have more pressure and more ints, locker room fragments due to all of the transfers and no chemistry. I think the wheels fall off a month before the Civil War and the Ducks will be vulnerable for the Beavs to win the CW on the road.
OSU has the best schedule of them all and it isn’t a soft schedule, just a solid and perfectly laid out sequence for success. SDSU and Utah are the focus for the first half, bye week, and then 2 solid home wins against UW and UCLA leads into a momentum win at Autzen. I think the Beavs have the right pieces to make a run and the upgrade in the qb room is the best part, but the return of Alton Julian, and a few others on defense makes the losses of graduates less impactful. I expect the defense to be even better in Bray’s 2nd year at the helm.
Improved defense, improved offense, returning starters and experience, influx of highly rated talent and perfect mix of skill/intelligence will lead to one of the greatest years of OSU football. I’ll call it at 11-1 but I want to go all in a say 12-0, beat USC in the conference championship and matchup with Michigan in the playoffs…for a true Rose Bowl for the Ages….
Those schedule excerpts are good context, thx. OSU probably does have the best schedule set up. Plus, excitement of “completed” reser adds to homefield advantage of past two two years.
Good stuff, ohiobeav.
Regarding Oregon, I agree that Nix “will have more pressure” primarily because they will have a new center. I notice you didn’t mention their D, I don’t expect a changing coaching staff will produce much improvement there. Spot on that, “locker room fragments due to all of the transfers and no chemistry.”
As for the Beavs, you’ve said it all, and pretty well. I won’t hesitate to bet the over if the line is 8, or 9. Seems easy money and all because of east coast bias and years of not paying attention to what’s being built by Smith. Oh, and the swoosh hype machine!
It is a possibility to have 12-0 USC vs 12-0 OSU in championship since they don’t meet during conference play. Could be epic.
I think Beavs and USC play in championship game. If that happens, every fan of every other pac 12 team is rooting hard for Beavs. Our legacy will be to kick the shit out of the Trojans as they head to the B10.
I don’t think USC makes it for the same reason I think Penix won’t have the same numbers as last year… and their D sucks rotten eggs.
For the degenerate gamblers in the crowd…
According to Yahoo sports Twitter page…
“Per @BetMGM, 8.1 percent of all national championship bets are on Colorado ??
That ranks 6th, behind:
??Michigan
??Alabama
??Ohio State
??Georgia
??LSU”
State-sponsered gambling is a socially acceptable way of taxing the elderly and poor.
Most gamblers don’t understand probability, that’s why the house wins….
Heard it said that it’s a tax on mathmatical stupidity. Applies even to those who aren’t poor or elderly.
While there is no “system” to beat the odds at, say, roulette, the odds in sports gambling are much less defined.
Wait… what do you mean they can only rig the games to pay the house 34%, but no more?
I wouldn’t mind one more chance at USC… say… in Las Vegas.
Everyone has to play the games, and it’s just a craps shoot, right now.
I do agree that we have a window of opportunity, with the energy surrounding the program–one missed in the mid to late ’00s, for various reasons.
Don’t fumble through the endzone, and maybe we have a chance.
As an aside, I propose we call the game at Autzen the Civil Game. I get it, and I somewhat agree. While I don’t ascribe to the idea that anyone believed it was associated with the South’s war to keep slavery, to associate a game with war is just wrong. My inner Carlin says fuck that shit. It’s a game.
Civil War.
Fuck that shit.
It’s a game.
And if you’d been to war or anything close to associated with it, you would say the same.
The dishonor in that name is immense, and I’m sorry I ever took part in it.
At the same time, I was a product of the time, and it was acceptable to equate a game with the death of my family members who died for this country.
Civil War.
OregonLive assessment of Trailblazer free agent Drew Eubanks:
“2023-24 outlook: Should Eubanks return with Lillard and Nurkic, or a new starting center, he would go back to his role as a high-energy reserve who brings the heat each night. He is certainly fun to watch on lob dunks and, despite his 117.1 defensive rating, Eubanks contributes several quality defensive moments per game.
Plus, he is fierce. The Blazers tend to have a laidback demeanor as a team. Eubanks is one of the team’s few players who brings fire to the court.”
Hell, he had a $1.9M contract last season, nit a bad life!
https://www.oregonlive.com/sports/2023/05/drew-eubanks-energy-determination-tough-to-replicate-trail-blazers-season-review-look-ahead.html
Just gotta wait for some ping pong balls to bounce in the right direction.
Hope they get that 7’4″ kid from France (Spain?). Euro players seem a bit more mature, despite their youth.
Wembanyana will be the #1 pick, whoever gets it.
Drew was one of the highest value signings that team has had in a long time.
Plays hard every minute he’s out there, plus they use him to guard the opponents biggest player usually, despite only being around 6’9 – 6’10.
Also his shooting percentage was up around the low 70’s I believe, although it may have dipped late in the year when they were actively tanking and asked him to shoot more 3’s so they could lose games.
Bat signal from JS!
Beavs pick up 2024 RB Mekhi Frazier.
Has multiple P5 offers, but 247/Rivals dont have him rated.*(unless you consider Rivals 5.5 rating as something other than a placeholder.)
https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Makhi-Frazier-145825/RecruitInterests/
I’ve seen 3* listed somewhere on his Twitter time line. Lots of good talent from that school though. Damn. Wonder if they keep him at RB. Was a good LB too I believe
Sounds like a stud athlete. If they believe in him as a RB, I do, too. We’ve had pretty good position change players in the past.
Sounds like one of those guys who is good enough to play both positions in college but wants to play RB and the Beavs are offering that.
Hope he gets more production this fall as he had about 300 yards rushing. Albeit he shares the backfield with two guys to USC and SMU. So maybe he’ll be super fresh when he enrolls. Would be a great candidate for early enrollment.
Watched his highlights, taking deep handoffs and direct snaps…with his LB experience, it likely helps him reading the D when he takes direct snaps. Maybe he’ll fill a bit of the Colleto role at times.
Has some highlights where he is tough to bring down…likes to use a spin move…
He does look like he lines up in the pistol, while the QB is under center, sometimes.
I love multi-tooled players, so I’m sold.
This staff has so far earned trust when it comes to identifying, signing, and developing RBs.
Arkansas, Boise State, Michigan State, Missouri offers, plus Utah State, UNLV, others.
Slow start for the beavs vs Portland. 1 hit thru 4
5 pitch inning for pilots. Kane and macias swing on 1st pitch for line out and ground out. Tanner Smith strikes out on 3 straight pitches. Bottom of 5th. What an ugly offensive inning
Tanner Smith is sooooo much better than Weber
He’ll be fine next year, and he is a plus defender.
But yes, Weber is the better overall player, at the moment.
He’s a Scioscia, not an Adley.
Don’t let Smith’s mom hear you say that
Bazanna is the hero again. Solo HR to give beavs 1-0 lead top of 6th
How is this Pilot broadcast on YouTube better than most P-12 Network broadcasts with what….a tenth of the budget?
YT has advanced that much.
Nobody talks about Google in the media deal talks, but they exist.
I believe apple is out, due to the quip about layoffs and optics by one of the Pac Presidents. apple has not gone through a recent round of layoffs, and they don’t expect to do so.
YT is competing with Fubo for streaming superiority, at this point. And why not? It’s what they’ve always done.
And then there’s this.
I actually quite like the YouTube set up vs the live stream via the pac12 website. Allows me to cast it to my TV. Lol
I’ve been impressed, my son had a high school rugby match that was hosted on the Western Oregon campus and they broadcast the game in HD on YT. My other son’s semi-pro soccer game was also on YT in very good quality. It’s become a nice way to view sports.
Remember when ESPN broadcast local HS games for content?
This is better than that.
That’s for sure.
A Macias double, a SAC by Smith, and a SAC fly by Dernedde make it 3-0 Beavs. Then Bazzana bb, steal and is driven in by Forrester.
Has the flavor of small ball………4-0 Beavs to the b9.
That’s what she said…
Brown a bit shaky, gives up 2 runs in the 9th but beavs finish it off with a 4-2 victory
He does like to make things dramatic!
So weird. ESPN app shows Beavs won 8-2. I know it’s wrong, but “you had one job”…
The last 3-4 outings he’s been varying degrees of shaky. It makes me a little nervous if during the postseason he comes on with a 1-2 run lead, but it was nice to see him strikeout the next three Portland hitters after giving up the runs. Hopefully the next two weekends and in the conference tournament he settles back down into dominant form.
Some info on who missed spring practice, and who is expected in fall:
“OSU coach Jonathan Smith said outside linebacker John McCartan, tight end Jack Velling, punter Josh Green, receivers Tastean Reddicks and Montrel Hatten Jr and left guard Marco Brewer, all out this spring, are expected to participate fully when camp opens.
Also safety Alton Julian, who has been out for nearly two years with an ACL tear, is expected to be cleared in time for camp, Smith said. Outside linebacker Ryan Franke, who missed the 2022 season with a knee injury, is also expected to return.
Those who were limited or scarcely participated this spring but expected to be ready Aug. 3 include receiver Anthony Gould, inside linebacker Easton Mascarenas-Arnold and left tackle Joshua Gray.
…
Oregon State was a rarity among Power 5 schools in that it didn’t lose any scholarship players to the transfer portal during the spring window. Smith said, because of the “day and age,” he was a little surprised.
“I think these guys are enjoying things around here, and they see a future and potential,” Smith said. “Not shocked, but pleasantly surprised.”
https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2023/05/oregon-state-football-when-august-camp-opens-whos-available-and-whos-out.html
I forgot that Franke was out last year. This will be the best LB unit in the conference.
The secondary concerns me.
Smith seems to target athletes, not just for measurables, but includes culture fit and other metrics. Maybe he needs to give WT some pointers.
Regarding Gulbranson/DJ…not concerned. Gulbranson is a good QB who got better as the year progressed. It’s not out of the question that he’s better.
Given the scarcity of NFL QBs, surprised Sean Mannion remains unsigned. Anyone know if he retired or took a non-NFL job?
Pretty sure he’s with the Vikings over summer and competing with some other back-ups to be a back-up.
Had to look…according to wikipedia…
“On September 1, 2022, Mannion was signed to the Seattle Seahawks practice squad.[41] His practice squad contract with the team expired after the season on January 14, 2023.”
I’m likely just remembering old news.
He’s been on and off teams for 8 years, now. He probably has some change socked away, by now. I wonder what kind of coach he might make, being a coach’s kid and a QB.
Oregon State being targeted by the Big 12 according to this show out of Utah. Starts at about the 18 minute mark.
https://youtu.be/BQ61v4PycVY
So much mis/dis-information re: Pac, especially coming out of the bigxii, that it’s hard to take any of it very seriously. You know if hole fan sees this they’ll flip their collective lid though.
Colorado are sluts, huh? They literally just left the Big 12. Now because of a few bucks they want back in? This TV deal stuff is stupid. TV will be 100% ala carte with no networks within 10 years. Super antiquated technology and ideas.
What is with all the annoying sound effects on that show? Super ADHD and unwatchable.
That’s why I tried to give the time stamp so you wouldn’t have to listen to the other crap. I don’t know anything about the hosts and their reliability. The YouTube algorithm recommended it and I was surprised to hear Oregon State as an option to the Big 12. If true, that wouldn’t be a bad outcome. It beats joining the MWC.
It would suck.
I guess people don’t realize that the sports media deal isn’t what this conference association thinks is most important. It’s peanuts, compared to what each school not called Stanford or Washington would lose in potential research dollars.
Now that UT and OU are gone, Oregon State would be the premier research institution in the Big 12. Wazzu would be a top three.
And that’s if they retained collaborative funding that exists currently.
Some nobhead thinks Colorado is going to bolt over five mil sports dollars a year?
Nobhead is not following the money.
Money talks, and a couple bucks on a sports deal is speaking peanuts.
I’d say research money is a giant money laundering scheme for these progressive institutions to keep pushing Marxist propaganda etc through all departments on campus.
I hope you guys realize that higher education isn’t what it was 30-40 years ago and the amount of fraud/graft and treason is overwhelming in a lot of the sciences where this “research” is funded. Not really related to the media deal and maybe not related to OSU but not a good look for UNC, Harvard, Stanford stockpiling research grants etc for nefarious purposes.
nutter alert
Watch out for those Commie Conservatives, boys. They’re fascist Marxists.
Soon they’ll be coming out of their undersea lairs in droves, turning our fetuses into gay terrorists… with pronouns.
Run, don’t walk.
I SAID RUN!!!!!!!!
Mockery isn’t much of a defense for indefensible programs though. Poor attempt to ridicule others into silence “Jack”. I doubt that you are actually Jack though.
UNC was funded to do gain of function research sars Covid viruses from NIH. Nothing to mock about that.
Harvard was partnering with Chimes government and Jeffrey Epstein. High ethical and moral standards to be sure.
So take your mockery and move along, the bless you can formulate an actual defense for these policies/programs.
Don’t throw the good out with the bad, though. Sure there are a lot of bogus and downright nefarious research programs going on. That doesn’t mean the majority are, though. Lots of great stuff happening in material sciences, quantum physics, and other areas.

(How can one even compare Oregon State w/ Stanford, Harvard etc in the same sentence? O.o)
OSU research saved the industry that I work in from extinction
wait… are you silent?
whackadoo is as whackadoo does
Approximately 55% of OSU’s research funding goes towards administrative costs, so yes, a lot of research funding is just a slush fund. It’s not much different across the PAC or major land-grant universities. I remember this vividly when I wrote grant proposals to NSF.
I think F&A is somewhere just under 50%.
Nobody us arguing that administration isn’t a growing cost and the largest driver of tuition increases.
But this is not the definition of a slush fund, by any means. Managing personnel and facility maintenance takes money. Creating a facility is a lot of the cost. And dealing with sponsors is what should be targeted, not the “administration” that often gets tied into some banal whining about not being mean enough to non-white, non-male, non-pseudo-Christians.
Just look at the lies posted above. That’s where these instantly recognizable and banal talking points lead. They aren’t even his ideas. Hell, they aren’t even ideas. They’re just fantasy posted confidently by someone who desperately wants to believe them.
Several Pac 12 schools are AAU members but Oregon State is not. How would research dollars change with Oregon State moving to the Big 12? The Pac 12 and AAU connection was about prestige of the conference but I don’t understand how being a Pac 12 member school would grant one more research dollars. Also, Wazzu was not mentioned as a potential target for the Big 12.
The only reason OSU isn’t in the AAU is because the AAU doesn’t count ag research, for whatever reason.
Medicine is the largest research factor, for most schools in the upper sphere. But regional research institutions are just as important. For some reason, a group of universities got together to make money off fixing an unhealthy population, instead of investing in best practices for resource extraction and energy and food production and distribution, in order to mitigate said unhealthy population.
I think schools like Nebraska and Kansas got “kicked out” some time back, because of this. I’d take good odds the zebrafish study at UO is a way to remain, since OHSU took on the medical teaching. But they wouldn’t be graduating a real biomedical engineer soon, without OSU collaborating with them to set up and maintain the study. I wouldn’t doubt a couple other schools had some insight, as well.
OSU doesn’t want pay for it, other schools do

Beavs make top 5 for 4* DB from…Lewisville in TX. Any takers on who we have on our current roster from Lewisville? Cal, smu, Arkansas and ASU are the others.
Our current stud RB…DM.
You sir, are correct! Perhaps there’s more but he was who I was thinking of. Lol
We got a DT from there last year, I think
Think the DT was from Duncanville? Or maybe we had a DT from each school?
D1 now projects Beavs as 2 seed in Brighton regional.
PAC teams hosting?………Stanford and….that’s it, only Stanford.
Would a sweep of UCLA lead to a Corvallis regional? Would that be a good thing?
Just win, baby, just win.
If Beavs win 40 games (6 of next 7) and finish second in Pac, that’s got to be good enough to host… but I don’t trust this committee and the RPI system is a joke so we’ll see. Like you said, just win
I don’t think the RPI will be high enough if they win out.
Now if they win a few in the conference tournament? Who knows. Probably will depend on who they play
As of tonight the RPI is at 30. Probably gonna need to be close to 20 to be a regional host.
https://www.sfgate.com/warriors/article/gary-payton-ii-vomit-game-4-18092987.php
Go Beavs… lol
That’s hilarious. Even gave the Oregon State mention. Glad he enjoyed his college years a little and it wasn’t all hoops.
That’s a relatively new development. No one binge drank and vomited back in the day…academics and philanthropy were the clear priorities…
So… no boat race?
More chatter about UO and UW being vetted & cleared for Big 10…
…by the same guy who said it about a year ago.
Had to check to see if it wasn’t just a replay, and people were getting all roiled up over it.
The last time he said it, someone in the B1G said, “No, there has been no vetting, and we’re done expanding… except for Notre Dame, if they want to join.” There were also reports that the conference Presidents could not reach a majority for any more expansion, so they just stopped trying. That was also not the case. It turned out their last commissioner (Warren) wanted to keep pushing, and the Presidents got so annoyed with him, they got another commissioner.
Good to see Drew get a win vs the yanks.

Kmatz’s brother commits. Is he a good pitching prospect?
Surprise surprise. There’s now public drama around Spencer Webb’s death last Summer and the onlyfans porn star who gave birth to a baby she claims was his. That poor kid.
Who could have predicted this???

Am I understanding this correctly, they were only together for a couple of weeks. In reading the articles in The Oregonian I thought they had been a couple for a long time!
Not even that long. Now i want to know if she was at the scene of the accident
It was at slide rock.
I’m not even sure what teh official story is, but I heard it was alcohol and falling from the rocks by straying from the stairs, not while on the rock itself.
Nike University narratives are ysually deep and steeped in integrity and authenticity…something smells fowl…
Sounds like the facts are starting to get in the way of the Nike narrative. Looks like the Oregonian doesn’t want to touch it though. One would think they would jump on it after missing out on the Fagan pot consultant story. I guess Willamette Week will get the true story on this one also.
You can usually count on WW to have the unsensationalized facts on a story, regardless of them being first or not. They also aren’t mostly a paper that copies and pastes edited AP reports as the bulk of their paper.
So there’s that.
Onlyfans. Tells you all you need to know.
Whore
Ironically Canzano is also a whore. Journalistically and in real life.

Josiah Lake II just committed to the MBB team tonight. His dad was a JUCO signing to Eddie Payne’s team around 98/99 I want to say. I had classes with him. I suddenly feel very old.
Crazy thay we have a Heide and Lake legacy player on each team now. Is Corey Benjamin’s daughter still playing hoops?
She’s got a nice stroke from 3
https://www.tmz.com/2021/11/12/ex-nba-player-corey-benjamin-apologizes-daughters-violent-outburst-sucker-punch-teenager-video/
#2 player in OR is pretty cool!
Tinkle managed to beat…*checks notes* Eastern Arizona and Colby. Recruiting on a roll!
Dad is pretty well connected in the Oregon HS/AAU hoops scene so it’s a good sign that he’s willing to send his kid to play for Tinkle. OSU is likely the best offer he would have received but saw him play at Tualatin and really like his game. Athletic guard who can shoot and get to the basket and plays hard. Probably shouldn’t be expected to do a ton but he’s the type of player every good team needs.
It occurred to me this might be a PWO commitment given the timing and circumstances. If that’s the case, this is a great PWO signing.
More random musings from the peanut gallery.
WBB: This from Raegan Beers:
While I am honored to be selected for the AmeriCup Team Trials, due to unforeseen circumstances I will not be able to participate fully. I am grateful to USA Basketball for the opportunity and wish everyone participating all the best.
I am excited to be back on the floor soon with my teammates to prepare for the 2023-24 season!
BTW: She looked just fine throwing out the first pitch at Goss recently.
An important series for the Beavs this weekend, pretty much determines if they will be a #2 seed or a #3 seed in the tourney.
If they keep doing well, they’ll get paired into one of the weaker hosts regional. Outside chance of hosting a super if there’s upsets in the opposing regional.
If they win out, they’ll host. 6/7, outside chance. Lose 2/3 to UCLA, they’re a 2 seed. Get swept, it’s a 3 seed and would need to win 3/4 to assure bid. Not sure how the P12 tournament plays into everything but a strong finish is last 7 games plus strong showing in P12 tourney would help chances to host. The possibilities for this team range from hosting to not getting a bid. Win this series (2/3), they still have a chance to host IMO
Very little chance they will host a regional, there’s no way to justify the Beavs RPI and hosting over other schools
MBB playing in the NIT tip-off with a bunch of good teams. Should be interesting, as early season games are always kind of a crap shoot (like how we played Duke tough last season).
That is the time of year you find out who will be benched by mid season. Generally the guys who understand the game play early but lose get benched after being in Tinkle”s system for a couple of months because they are in Tinkle’s doghouse, maybe because they see how screwy the program is from the inside.
Does that give the Beavs extra games? I’ll bet the over on another 20-loss season then.
Sellers rough 2 innings. 2 walks. 3 hits. A wild pitch. 45 pitches thrown thru 2. 3-0 UCLA
What’s new?
Kmatz deserves the Friday start. Maybe Sellers will feel more comfortable as a day 2 or 3 guy but he’s clearly not ace material. Gave up a solo hr in 3rd. Down 4-0.
He makes games way harder than they should be.
Tanner closes out the b4, catching a foul and once again he hangs on to the mask and makes the one handed catch with his big catchers mitt.
Then he starts the b5 with a double and takes 3rd on a Dernedde fly out.
Beavs chipping away down by 1 run heading into bottom of the 5th. 4-3 UCLA
Sellers gives up 2 more runs. I guess 6 runs in the limit
Will he look like a true ace next week in non-con?
Possible. Western Carolina is trash. He still won’t go past 5 innings.
Agreed with the other poster. Give Kmatz a shot at being the Friday night guy.
Never mind. RD leaves Sellers in when he’s in trouble and he gives up a 2 run base hit. 6-3 UCLA. Now RD decides to make the change 1 pitch later. For fuck’s sake. Sellers goes 4 ? innings. Gives up 6 runs and he’s still responsible for 1 runner on.
And then Hutcheson beans his first batter. Yikes.
Dammit. I’m like 30 sec behind you. Lol
Sorry
Hutchinson on in relief and beans the first guy he faces.
Behind by 1 at the end of the t6.
Beavs have been winning lately, Bruins not. Psychology takes over, Beavs have a decent chance to pull this one out.
That’d be nice. ASU lost and Oregon getting destroyed by UW
Well, unfortunately, UCLA is giving double middle fingers to psychology tonight.
Clear foul ball but I imagine it will stand
I have been confirmed
8-5 now with umpire intervention
It did. I didn’t see it so I can’t form an objectionable opinion.
That’s 2 calls in this game that have gone in the Bruins favor. Home cookin?
So here’s the deal. Umpire has to view it on a 20in screen. I am seeing it on 65in the ball doesn’t go over it’s in front of the pole, clear as day.
What did the Pac 12 announcers say about it?
They said they couldn’t see it. Which they likely have a screen similar sized to the umpires. They wanted us to weigh in on Twitter, lmao!
Well, Beavs pitching seems to have peaked vs Oregon. Still in top 4 of the pac in a lot of categories but definitely lost spots from earlier in the season. And the new pitcher comes in and hits another batter. Lol. What’s Dorman teaching these guys?
The wheels have done more than fall off, the car has caught fire and is a smoldering mess. Hit batters then back to back to back hits and its 11-5 with 2 on and 1 out.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the Beavs could return the favor in the 9th inning as they did last year in the PAC-12 tournament?
I know it’s asking a lot
Doesn’t matter now… luck of the beavs… 12-5 after a non home run, hbp, lucky hit over 3B, and everything else that happened. I don’t usually blame umpires but I imagine we don’t bring in Jimenez if the home run ball is called different.’
12-5 final. Ouch. Jekyll and Hyde season continues.
This is the same team Cal swept in LA last weekend???
Even psychology can’t sometimes overcome giving up 14 hits combined with 4bb, 4hbp, and a WP.
Yep. Beavs made it pretty easy for the Bruins. I guess we’ll see if Miiiiitch can rally the troops.
Sucks too. ASU and Oregon both lost tonight.
Missed opportunity to take sole possession of 2nd place.
Stanford won and I imagine will have the regular season title wrapped up before the weekend is over.
Unless the Friday night pitching improves? This team isn’t getting out of a regional no matter where it’s at.
This late in the season they are what they are.
If Sellers is the best option for Friday night, those responsible for recruiting pitchers and development are to blame. Sellers is the most inconsistent/least disciplined Friday night starter I can remember going back to 2005.
Maybe the plan was for everyone to get a chance to pitch on Fridays in relief…terrible.
Dorman must not look at any stats or data then it he still thinks Sellers is the Friday guy. The way he’s pitched the last 4 weeks or so he’s not even a day 2 starter. Burned 5 pitchers in the blowout on a Fri. Good lawd. 4 hit batters. We struck out 10 times. Just an awful performance all around. Hope they can right the ship tomorrow and even this up
Agreed. It’s past time to give Kmatz a shot. With the short week coming up though I can’t see it happening now. Kmatz would be on 2 fewer days of rest.
I don’t see them changing any unfortunately. MC seems to stick with his guys regardless
RPI only dropped to 32 after the loss. Much less than I thought it would be.
Lo and behold, here come the leg humpers. Up to 37th after the win in Eugene tonight. That team is playing well right now.
Also of note….that Monday win a few weeks back vs Grand Canyon is looking better every day. Now 32-19, 9 straight wins and up to 75th in RPI.
Stanford – 10
Beavs – 32
Oregon – 34
UW – 37
ASSU – 46
UCLA – 54
USC – 61
Arizona – 62
https://www.warrennolan.com/baseball/2023/rpi-live
Sellers not only shouldn’t be the Friday night guy, he shouldn’t even be in the rotation. The Hunter injury really hurts. He was finally putting it together this season and had been their best starter. Sellers doesn’t have a track record of success at this level and it is showing. Feels like once he struggles early, his teammates can feel him about to implode and the entire vibe with the team changes. I have no idea what Dorman was thinking running him out there last night. Ferrer is obviously their best pitcher and seems a total waste when he isn’t being used on Fridays at all. Just make him the starter and be done with it.
I’m too lazy to research, but I wonder where the team ERA ranks now. I remember at one point it was 3rd in the nation.
They’re 4th in the conference during conference play but still in 1st for the season. So our pitching was really good during the 1st month but have definitely regressed once conference play started. Need to play coppin State more often.
They are lucky Ferrer is going into the draft after this year because he would be an obvious candidate to transfer out after being underused and passed over for a guy that needs 45 pitches to though every first inning. Sellers has had the same issues since his first start and it hasn’t fazed Dorman at all apparently. High pitch counts only create momentum for the opponent. Forcing high pitch counts used to be a central strategy for OSU batters, but Dorman keeps sending out a guaranteed high pitch count guy on Fridays which I’d say creates a steeper bill to climb for Sat/Sun games even if they win on Friday. Barney commented that the bullpen has so many good talented pitchers that they wondered if they would all be able to get work and establish themselves. Well, maybe they should get a chance to start Friday night instead of Sellers…And why does Dorman leave a struggling pitcher in 1-2 batters too long on a regular basis? Maybe they can still win the series after all of that…go Beavs
At least the women’s golf team is doing well… lol
Omaha or bust. If we aren’t at Omaha, fire MITCH
Well no one’s in Omaha right now so I guess Mitch stays
Turley gets the start as dh, Weber catching.
What do ya think of starting Turley in such an important situation?
Rough offense so far. 7 strike outs already. 10 last night. That’s…not good. Guerra definitely struggling in LA think he’s struck out 4 times? Kasper with 2 k’s today as well. This is the March and early April beavs.
Be nice to see the March and early April version of Turley.
Better yet…February
Whats with the shitty officiating? Holy cow
Pac12, duh.
LOL
Leave it to the Pac-12 to have officials instead of umpires.
13 k’s already. Wow. Couple solo shots though and Beavs lead 6-4.
That solo by Dernedde raised his average to .258. 3 for 3 tonight.
UPDATE: final stats show .271 for Kyle.
New arm due for UCLA, starter at 107.
At the halfway point, I wanted the back half of the line-up to be toying with Mendoza, by the end of the year. So I thought it was funny that Dernedde was at .243, last week.
Ben F dealing!
Go Beavs!
Kasper really struggling. 0-9 with 7 k’s in 2 games.
Him, Forrester and Guerra are struggling in the series mostly cause they’re being passive early in the count on fastballs. They’re all going up there and taking fastballs down the middle early in the count and digging themselves in a hole and UCLA pitchers are taking advantage of them. Fine line between working counts and just giving pitchers automatic strikes. They got a lot of pitches to hit early in the count but weren’t pulling the trigger. Dernedde and Bazzana were really the only ones who got aggressive early in the count and had huge games.
Beavs take a lot of pitches. UCLA scouted well.
Beavs hang on for 6-4 win.
Turley and Weber hitless tonight.
Ferrer gets the W, threw his most pitches of the season with 57; is he good for a couple batters tomorrow?
RPI (for the moment) up to 28
Big win considering how many dudes posted blanks today. 15 k’s. 0 hits for Forrester, Kasper, Guerra, weber and Turley. Only 1 walk tonight. Weird offensive game with 2 solo HR and Bazanna’s 3 run HR. He’s been the driving force behind this team.
Kmatz wasn’t great tonight but he did keep them to 4 runs. Perhaps it should be Kmatz, Ferrer and Sellers/Lattery for game 3? 57 pitches is probably one of the longer stretches for Ben. Brown looked much better only giving up 1 hit to close the game out. Big win needed tomorrow.
Give Dernnedde some credit too — he had a very good game for himself feeding Bazzanna some RIb-eyes!!!!
DAM Right! Bat symbol on up
Mike Washington(4* WR) is in visit this weekend. If its him, that’s a great recruiting win. Just viaited UCLA and has several other offers already including oregon.
Just a bad LB
Duck fan happy it wasnt Washington
https://twitter.com/Hart_cjEra/status/1657780617923231745?t=64DOQyNNMwQgDAvE85MehA&s=19
Doesn’t seem like the greatest position of need. Mascarenas, Miller, Tongue, Tufaga, Jordan, and Shaw are already pretty solid depth at ILB. That said, I’ll gladly take even greater depth for the linebacking corp/defense. I just hope it doesn’t push one of the younger guys into the portal.
Think he only has 1 year left so it shouldn’t be an issue unless they were going to leave regardless.
He could get a medical redshirt for 2021 so possibly two years.
Hadn’t heard that. His xfer post said 1 year of eligibility but perhaps he’s submitting for a medical redshirt
He had a great start to the season last year and then was hurt. Good depth piece. Sorry to ruin your Mother’s Day.
Still stings that LSU threw money bags at Speights.
Smith gets the start behind the plate, Turley DH again today, three K’s yesterday…….he’s due?
He’s been due since March
Beav’s leave the bases loaded and miss a chance to have a big inning…
Did the equipment manager forget to pack the orange #1 jersey for Turley?
Beavs up 3-0 in the 2nd with some poor fielding help by UCLA.
Also didn’t see it mentioned but Stanford wrapped up the regular season title last night.
Beavs could finish anywhere from 2nd to 6th I believe depending on today and next weekends results.
Kasper breaks his slump with a 2 out 2RBI single in the t6, 7-3 Good Guys and still up.
Big inning set up by some luck, some sloppy D, and another hit by Dernedde.
Man!
Just when teh middle of the line-up starts making good contact, UCLA goes and changes the P.
Going into b6, and the Beavs lead 7-3. Maybe got a favorable make-up for the Friday review.
Odd that the Beavs offered a JUCO TE today. Would think between Velling/Terry/Overman and Sharpe we’d be in good hands there. Hopefully not a signnof injury
Does anyone know what happened to Tyce Peterson? He hasn’t been in the lineup for 2-3 weeks.
Not sure but they must not like his clutch hitting I guess.
It would’ve been nice to get him involved in the offensive onslaught today to keep his momentum at the plate going.
Maybe Turley was due? HR makes it 13-5 Beavs.
Miiiiiitch had faith all along.
Beavs pouring it on now. 16-5 in the 9th
Bazzana with like 10 rbis.
21 runs today. Goodness.
Someone explain to me why we are not in second place on the pac12 website. We have a higher in conference winning percentage than Washington 0.666 vs 0.625 and beat them 2 out of 3. Not updated yet?
Huskies are 16-10. They have a higher winning percentage. Beavs are 18-12. Idk where you got your numbers from.
Oh, I see it now, .615 vs .6. Thanks
And yet Nolan shows Beavs in second 3 1/2 back and UW in third, also 3 1/2 back both with the records you’ve listed.
So a conference % of .615 comes in behind .600?
One of the mysteries of life, I suppose.
https://www.warrennolan.com/baseball/2023/conference/Pac-12
That’s interesting. Nolan must be calling it a virtual tie but we have the better record against Udub. Well regardless, it all comes down to the teams playing their last three Pac12 games. We are done except for the tournament and RPI standings.
Done w regular pac play that is.
In baseball, you always count wins in the book, first.
Two teams can be 1, 2, 3.5 games back, but those with wins in the book already have those wins. The team with less wins needs to make up the difference, still.
In baseball you look at the loss column. Losses can’t be made up.
I’m talking about placing teams in order, after figuring games back. It’s correct, right now.
If the season were to end now, for some reason, OSU would end up in 2nd place.
Right now, it’s somewhat likely we end up losing a tie-break to ASU, for fourth, after this weekend.
*unless there are specific tie-breaks for these instances on every given level, which affect things like post-season seedings (head to head and such)
UW had a game cancelled with ASU. They will both have 1 less game in conference…
And exactly the reason why ASU cannot catch the Beavs.
I posted this above.
Depending on how things shake out with how UW and USC do this weekend the Beavs will finish anywhere between 2nd and 4th.
After today’s results, beavs can finish as high as 2nd but not lower than 4th. Most likely scenario is 3rd.
To finish 2nd they’d need Cal to win the series in Seattle vs suddenly hot UW. Not likely. If Arizona just takes one next weekend at home vs USC they can’t finish worse than 3rd.
RPI at 27 after today.
Probably not any opportunity to improve that with Portland (117) and Western Carolina (200).
Absolutely cannot lose any of those games.
It looks like UW had a game cancelled in their ASU series. Percentage points will decide, not head to head since they can finish with same wins but 1 less loss, luck o da Beavs for this one.
Beavs may still have an outside shot at hosting by finishing top 3 in conference and needing west coast sites, (surely they won’t try to justify only Stanford hosting in the entire west coast..and 12 SEC host sites..!!)
https://twitter.com/aaronfitt/status/1657894413996105736?cxt=HHwWkIC91fCLg4IuAAAA
“Oregon State pounds UCLA 21-5 to finish up Pac-12 play with an 18-12 record. In my mind, that should be good enough to host even with an RPI in the mid-20s, though not sure if the committee would agree or not. We’ll see what happens to OSU’s RPI after Western Carolina series.”
Win next 4 and the Beavs will host. 2nd or 3rd in P12, 40 wins, strong finish, decent RPI, and 4K attendance in one of the best stadiums in the country should be enough. That said, if they don’t win out, no chance to host
I think you’re gonna be disappointed
A Beavers series win (not sweep), nice
Ducks swept by UW for the first time since 2009, and there’s this bit from their loss Saturday in Eugene:
“The Huskies opened with four straight singles and added a home run, two doubles, a walk, hit batter and error to plate nine runs in the first, chased Ducks starter Jackson Pace without recording an out and cruised to a 18-8 win Saturday night at PK Park.”
Then there’s this:
“Oregon State claimed its first-ever Pac-12 women’s track and field individual championship Saturday night when Grace Fetherstonhaugh won the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Not a bad weekend…
Grace Fetherstonhaugh also won the 5,000-meter and was part of the highest Pac-12 Championships team finish and point total in school history.
Both 3k & 5k, & team finished that strongly? Wow.
These highlights are hilarious – looks like a man among boys out there and REALLY likes to lock up, block, and drive….PERSISTENT. If he really is 6’6″ 255 – 268, I sure hope he makes a commitment to the Beavers. I wonder if they offered him as a TE or Tackle prospect? 4 to play 3…
https://twitter.com/ConnorG89?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Eembeddedtimeline%7Ctwterm%5Escreen-name%3ABeavrecruiting%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c14
Wonder if he’s quick enough to play DE….
Ahh, scrolling down his page I see LSU offered him as a Tackle, and it gives him an “opportunity to block even more.” I bet OSU offered him as a tackle.
Haha, reminds me of that scene from the Blindside where he runs the guy all the way off the field
He could be the next Quitoriano
New D1 baseball poll moved the Beavs up to No 10.
Stanford no 3 and UW 24.
https://d1baseball.com/top-stories/d1baseball-top-25-wake-forest-remains-no-1-two-new-teams-enter-rankings/
Perfect game still doesn’t rank the Beavs in the top 25. Sitting in the considered category for a couple weeks now.
Other polls have the Beavs in the mid teens.
So I guess these polls are subjective?
No real baseball west of the Mississippi anyway, if ESPN has anything to do with it…SEC is all you really need to put attention to.
Are the Beavs better off hosting as a #15 region with a tougher #2/#3 draw or being the toughest #2 seed at a distant but low ranked regional site?
I think hosting is best. Sellers becomes a true wildcard and might determine how they do in any regional.
Supers may be a huge accomplishment for these guys, based on how unpredictable bats and arms have been all year.
Hosting is always better in case of upsets in the other regional. Chance to host supers and whoever they play will be a lower seed and likely will have to travel far is a big advantage.
Agree – especially with the Goss crowd. Tough place to play. Been very impressed with the resilience of this year’s team, from the sluggish start to now – how many series have they won when they lost the first game? Two or three? I’d also think the NCAA likes to have at least – (sometimes at most) two regionals out west – if only for TV purposes.
What’s going on at Reser? Are they painting or otherwise treating concrete?
https://webcam.oregonstate.edu/reser
Isn’t it supposed to be done in June or July?
Been checking in on it every day almost the whole build. The grey paint/treatment seems to be the final coat, the white seemed to be primer. They did the same with both the bottom and top levels. Imagine seats will go in soon, they did right after they finished painting the lower level. I think they are shooting for mid-July completion.
They put a white sealant over the steel underplate and are now putting on a gray overcoat that will protect the sealant to make it look like concrete. the upper deck in front of the press boxes and suites were done in the same way.
Final product seems a bit underwhelming without the upper sections extended out to match. I know there is a possibility that they extend those later but it will be another aspect of the stadium looking partially completed…Oh well, I’m a fan of symmetry.
I am too. I wish the top row was extended out as well, but I also believe they wanted to keep the “Valley View” open for the East side fans because you know, I go to a football game for a view of the valley.
After watching this side go up, I actually think it would be better if they eventually retro-renovated the south and east side to match the new west side. A smaller capacity stadium (that is sold-out more) with the more modern venue experience like what they are doing on the west side makes the most sense for the whole stadium. I lived in Finley in 03-04 when they tore down the east side and always wanted them to match it the whole way around because of my OCD relationship with symmetry but times sure have changed.
Looks like Mitch figured the mid week game was a nice time to try out the end of the bullpen. Pilots getting some nice batting practice at Goss tonight.
Good Lord, I just tuned in and saw a Pilot hammer a piece of crap pitch over the left-field fence. 12-6 Pilots in the 6th.
Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch.
Beavs need to upgrade their bullpen depth. The back half is not good.
But Goss is so obviously an advantage for this team.
NiceBeav, why is my email to you getting returned to sender? Did you change your email?
Should be the same, i havent changed anything on my end.
I’ll check my spam
I just emailed you. Nothing in my spam folder, so not sure what’s going on
That’s really odd. I get yours, but when I respond, they get returned to sender. I wrote you on Twitter instead.
Lose 14-8 vs Portland. 1st 2 batters in 9th struck out looking last guy at least swung on the 3rd strike out. Down 6 runs in the 9th and we don’t get the bat off your shoulder? So weird how this team can be so bad. There’s not much middle ground. They either shit the bed or kick ass. Nowhere in between.
Miiiiiiiiiiiiitch!!!!
Conspicuously absent when they win and celebratory when they lose, weird, man
What do you expect from the guy who had one of the worst takes in human history…
We didn’t want to host a regional anyway…
D1 baseball disagrees. Put them in as the #16 seed
MIIIIIIIIIITCHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Welp, can’t blame this one on Sellers.
A good idea to give back of the roster guys some innings and at bats – you never know who will respond at this point of the season and earn more than “blowout opportunities” from here on in.

But if a football game falls in the woods….
Greater access for ESPN and Fox but both networks are in the process of methodically destroying the PAC12. Classic Stockholm Syndrome by Klaikoff, ADs and coaches. Such a dumb idea, and it is justified by 3 names-Deion Sanders, Chip Kelly and Lincoln Riley.
Those guys will all be gone in 2 years, so ridiculous to placate the networks that are busy destroying the conference.
Yah super awkward that 2 of the 3 coaches named by the P12 exec in this article coach teams that will be leaving the conference next year. He couldn’t think to reference/promote coaches of the teams that will actually be here long-term? The P12 can’t get out of its own way sometimes.
He probably doesn’t even know the names of the other 9 coaches.
You think both networks are going to give up the West?
In ESPN’s case, it would be giving up everything no ACC and SEC, and it looks like part of the ACC might choose to disappear into the B1G.
I’m not saying it wouldn’t be nice to not have to have ESPN, but I have to giggle at all the “they’re destroying the Pac 12, and the conference is a bunch of delusional dunces,” narrative, since the whole Western and Northern United States will also get to not have ESPN, if they “destroy themselves” out of the markets.
The whole “the Pac is dying” narrative wasn’t just stupid, at the beginning. It has matured like a turd in a bucket of milk on a warm day.
Cmon Jack. The networks have been strategizing for decades how to arrive at an NFL playoff format and the best scenario is to eventually have 4 major multi-regional super conferences. It has been discussed with conference presidents and openly speculated that the PAC12 won’t survive much longer.
The goal has been to have SEC and Big 10 pluck the strongest teams out of Big12, PAC12 and ACC, then convince
Notre Dame join at the end as the final nail. It doesn’t matter to them which conferences survive because the leftovers will be the Washington Generals to those 2 conferences. It becomes a little like WWF at that point because the talent will concentrate to those conferences.
The PAC12 has been ridiculed enough
that it is expendable in the grand scheme of college football. No one east of the Rockies cares what teams fill the late night programming slots. They won’t care if it’s just a bunch of MWC games, because “the real football” was already
Played during the early time slots at SEC and Big10 venues.
This is why UO and UW are going to desperately want to get into Big10 or SEC eventually. They won’t stand for being on the outside looking in, and they will have plenty of people trying to make it happen for them in the networks. The rest of the PAC will be in scramble mode to sort out where to land.
It may even be possible that SEC and Big10 scoop up all major market/blue blood teams and create their own system for championships.
I fully expect some type of super conferences within the next 5 years and you will see either 16/20 team conferences with 4 divisions each and the other 50 teams on the outside with no shot to get in.
But to mock the idea that there have been discussions about the demise of the PAC12 at networks is simply silly.
From clownzano tweet a couple of hours ago…
‘Pac-12 Conference today reported record total revenues of $581M for fiscal year 2021-22. And record distributions at $444M — representing an average of $37M per member university. ‘
Decent for a dead conference, I guess
Ferrer gets the start, could this be the start of a trend?
Hot hitting Dernedde batting ninth, as usual.
Turley LF, Tanner behind the plate.
Another “better not lose” game/series.
Go Beavs and Miiiiiitch.
How did he look? I’ve been a supportive of this move. I see the other team has four runs as of the third inning.
Two rough innings where he had 2 outs but couldn’t put ’em away. But, 81 pitches through 5.1 innings; heck, Sellers would have difficulty staying under 81 in 4 innings.
8 k’s, 2bb, zero hbp or wp, 5 hits
Thanks for the update
Turned on the radio just to hear Parker call Turleys hr…sounds like its Turley Time
2 in the last couple days. Good to see.
Actually Turkey hit 2 tonight and so did Forrester.
Mitch has a city league softball team after all. Parker said this team set the school record for team home runs in a season topping 2017 squad.
Now if they could find some steady pitching and get hot for about a month long run to Omaha…just like 2007
Go Beavs!
Former Oregon State assistant coach lands a decent prospect.

Don’t know what’s with the college football recruiting tag but whatever.
ESPN planning a flagship streaming service. This is the beginning of the end for cable sports deals, as ESPN is the largest beneficiary of total cable subscribership.
License deals will probably be smaller going forward because a lot of people are paying for ESPN in cable, but not using it.
Something like ESPN plus?
No, this will have all their content, not just the second-rate stuff like ESPN plus has.
Kmatz will start today and Sellers has been bumped to Saturday.
Idea was floated to turn Ferrer into a starter before the season and he came down with mono.
Article on oregonlive but I’m too lazy to link it.
Would make sense he didn’t start in Feb if he came back from mono but doesn’t really explain March, April and 1/2 of May to wait. Lol. I’d feel much better with Kmatz, Sellers and Ferrer as the 3 starters. Still not great but seems like an upgrade. Hopefully the move, if permanent, helps Seller be more comfortable but this far into the season I think what we see is what we get. Hell, I’d take the Sellers of the first half of the season that was at least striking people out and keeling the score close in the 4 innings he could pitch.
I love writing Miiiiiiiiiiiiiitch after a loss. It makes me laugh.
But more seriously, I’m impressed with the baseball team’s recovery from a bad start. I still find Mitch completely uninspiring and question him long-term, but .698 ball is excellent, obviously. If some of the emails I have received about Mitch and his leadership style are true, there could be issues down the road.
We’re still living off past reputation, so we need to see how this goes over the next few years.
Looks like the offense has started to live up to the potential this last month. Question I have right now for next season and beyond is the starting pitching. Going the CC route to find an Ace is clearly not working and not a model we’d want to rely on. Curious to see who from this young squad can be starter material. Lattery seems to have good stuff for 2 innings then he starts to unravel…very similar to the few starts he had last year. Hunter was great last year towards the end of the season when he got more time but wasn’t as effective early this season before his injury. The body of work isn’t quite there yet to be a definitive “go to” guy and who knows what this injury means to him as well. I’m wondering if Mundt ever throws again? Something clearly going wrong there unless I’ve missed an update? For a guy that was mentioned as a possibility to pitch in early March to not playing at all I really feel for him. Either the injury is far worse than thought or perhaps reinjured it. Thor, Lawson, Larson and Lattery are all juniors and I’m not sure I’ve seen enough from them in the mid-week and game 3 stints to say they’d be a day 2 or 3 guy next year. Grewe has struggled quite a bit as well considering how highly he was considered in high school. This really feels like the Mariners mold of offense only and hopefully the pitching can be somewhat passible
Also, the idea that I want the baseball program to do poorly so I’m right about Mitch is ludicrous and probably deserves a perma ban. I can’t believe some loser actually wrote that.
If anything the baseball program fading into obscurity it my big fear here.
I’ve said it before, angry will never come around on Mitch. They got off to such a poor start in their relationship and they didn’t even have a first date! Maybe angry bites his tongue some but that’s the best it will ever get.
The problem is his personality and armchair psychology stuff. I’ll take the wins, but I’ll never bond with that personality.
Can you post a recap of emails?
The players hate him, and he doesn’t listen to his coaches.
I don’t know if it’s true, of course, but three different people have said this. And I hate him, so I figure a lot of players probably do, too. ;)
Maybe it’s the parents who hate Canham because there’s no real evidence on the field that players don’t like him. Outside of Dernedde, he plays the guys who give the best chance to win.
Hopefully It’s now a drunk Gary situation
??
Are you comparing canham to ga?
Not*
“but .698 ball is excellent, obviously”
Pretty much all that needs to be said.
The Beavs aren’t championship material, but they could win, given emotion.
Pitching has to be at least decent for any expected run at the tourney. I have no expectations this team can win four of six games in a weekend.
Those e-mails sound like they have personal agendas. The best measure of whether the players really hate Mitch is the number of transfers out into the portal. Otherwise, the players will find to be a good coach and not their best friend. One piece of advice … don’t believe everything you read on the internet.
Jim Brown dies. Big dickhead from what I’ve heard, but maybe the best ever. RIP, big great dickhead.

USC loses the first game of a doubleheader.
Beavs can finish no worse than 3rd. If UW wins tonight 3rd is exactly where they will finish the regular season.

MIIIIIITTTCH!!!!!!!
What is the Kmatter with Kmatz??
5 LOB in 3 innings
Dernedde with a grand slam. Wow. 10-5 beavs bottom 5
Dernedde’s GS makes it 10-5 Beavs in the b5; what a change at bat for him in the last few weeks.
Cal burying UW. 10-1 in the last of the 6th
And then Cal remembered they’re Cal. 10-6 now
Cal up 12-7 heading to the bottom of the ninth.
Beavs have blown it open now. 16-5 in the last of the 6th.
Western Carolina can hit some but their pitching is trash. This better be a sweep.
Turley Time feasting, good for him
Turley with another two hr game. Unreal. What a comeback for him.
Great to see!
12 rbi so far this series? Unreal
Now Craig
23-5 beavs
Is 12 in 2 games good? 6 hr this game for the beavs. They can feast on sub-par pitching
I think the scouting report on him out of high school was right and it’s a good thing he came to college. Otherwise he’d be having a very tough time in pro ball.
The scouting report said while he hits the ball hard, his contact rate could be an issue at the next levels because of his swing. Definitely saw that this year. Can crush the ball vs lower level pitching but moving up into conf play, the hole in his swing got exposed.
Hopefully he gets onto the Trevor Larnach path. Larnach hit .157 his freshman year. Then had a good summer ball season and started to crush. Turley hopefully will get sent to the Cape Cod league and up his game.
Not sure it’s a comeback as much as it is him feasting on the same weak competition he had success against in the beginning of the year. I’ll call it a comeback if he does well in the P12 and NCAA tourneys.
He did start to come around vs ucla though. Hopefully this means things are starting to click but yes, seeing him continue to make contact vs striking out for the rest of the year writings be excellent.
Yep, that was my thought too. Impressive to me that mid season he was able to get his mind right and work on some things. I guess we will see how he can do against better teams in the post season tournaments.
Cal wins 12-7.
Need a Cal win tomorrow to finish 2nd. Otherwise it’s 3rd. Simple as that
23-5 final
JFC.
Damn how much must it suck to be a Western Carolina player having to travel across the country at the end of a shitty season just to give up 20+ runs a game.
This ain’t East Carolina…
Or Coastal
Or North…..or South….
West is their worst directional
Despite all the HR we’ve been hitting, we’re still in 6th place but that’s quite a jump from a month or 2 ago. Stanford has 95 on the season. Crazy
This whole team can feast on lower level pitching. Going by the season stats they’re in the top 3 of the conference in quite a few offensive categories but when you filter to conference play only, that’s when we dip to 6th or below in most of them. Hopefully another off-season helps some with that consistency.
Conference numbers are very misleading. Mostly came in the first 3 series where they looked really bad and a few of those guys, Macias, Talt, Cedillo, have been glued to the bench for the most part for over a month. With Turley finding himself, this is probably the top offense in the conference. They lead in OBP and have just destroyed pitching in the conferenc for nearly a month and a half
USC’s AD Bohn out – hmmm. Doesn’t sound voluntary.
Wonder if they’ll name Matt Leinart AD. :) Notable that Bohn was the first AD from “outside the family” since before Pete Carroll showed up.
More to it. Investigation about workplace culture.

Sellers on the bump. Fingers crossed this helps
BTW any locals need a last minute pair of tickets let me know 2 available
Cal has taken the lead in Seattle. 5-4 Bears in the 6th
And right as I posted that a 3-run bomb. 8-4 Cal
And ANOTHER 3-rum bomb makes us 11-4 Cal
Cal up 11-4 on UW. Looking like Beavs will finish 2nd in the conference. Mitch winning coach of the year should be a lock with how much they lost last season and lacking a high level starting pitcher and still finishing second. The development of so many guys like McDowell and Kasper has been really impressive
Cal with another 2 run homer in the 7th, now 15-6 going to bottom of 8th.
Mitch has done the improbable
Is Brady ok?
15-6 Cal now.
(Assuming Cal gets 9 outs and wins)
ASSU beat ucla 2-1 today. That locks Oregon in as the 6 seed. ASSU or USC will be 4/5. Depends on the outcome of tonight’s USC/Arizona game.
If Arizona wins, ASSU will be 4th, USC 5th and Arizona would move up to 7th, UCLA 8th. Would put the Beavs in a pool with USC and UCLA. I think this is the best case scenario and avoids playing either Arizona school in pool play.
If USC wins, they’ll be 4th, ASU 5th, UCLA 7th and UA 8th. That would put BOTH Arizona schools in the Beavs pool. Not an ideal scenario imo.
Cal won 16-11. Beavs finish alone in 2nd place. Miiiiiiitch should send the Bears a thank you basket. Pools for the tournament……
Pool A
1. Stanford
6. Oregon
9. Cal
This pool is set
Pool B
2. Beavs
5. USC/ASU
8. UCLA/UA
Pool C
3. UW
4. USC/ASU
7. UCLA/UA
If USC wins tonight……
4. USC
5. ASU
7. UCLA
8. Arizona
If Arizona wins tonight……
4. ASU
5. USC
7. Arizona
8. UCLA
Go Cats!
That’s why you play them all…
We better win the tournament but I doubt it. Haven’t had any sort of conference title in baseball for six years. Pretty sad….
If only the 2018 team had won the conference title. It really hurt them in the postseason
“We better win the tournament”. What are you going to do if they don’t? Go on a hunger strike?
Fingers crossed
He probably should tbh. A three day fast is long enough for the body to start reversing brain damage, which all Duck fans have.
I’ve had plenty of concerns about this team throughout the year but not today. Great accomplishment to finish alone in 2nd place. Hosting at least a regional seems very close if not assured.
Stating that they need to win the conference tourney is a bit hyperbolic and you are sounding more
Like a Duck troll than actual OSU student/fan.
Give credit where it is due on the day of success and worry about the tourney next week.
You’re just now catching on to the schtick?
Looks more like 49 years.
It’s okay.
We know that STEM was only recently introduced to your school. We can help with the counting.
This team far exceeded any reasonable expectations. Win 1 in pool play and they’ll likely host. Win 2 and they’re a lock host. Lack of potential host teams in the west outside of Stanford helps but 40-41 wins and 2nd in Pac-12 is a worthy host
USC wins 14-6. ASU and Arizona will both be in tbe Beavs pool.
Runs are gonna be scored in that pool. A lot of them. Oregon State-ASU game is gonna be huge. If the Beavs beat Arizona, they can basically lock down a hosting spot with a win over ASU and advance to the semis and ASU needs to beat the Beavers to give themselves a good shot at making a regional as their hopes are hanging by a thread right now with an RPI of 50.
In all likelihood the Beavs will only need one win in pool play to advance to tbe semifinals.
Best case… 1 win, don’t advance and still enough to host.
1 win and they’ll likely advance. Only way they don’t?
Someone not named Stanford wins pool A and Stanford goes 1-1.
If neither of those happen? One win is all the Beavs need to advance to the semifinals due to the changes made for pool play.
“At the conclusion of pool play on Thursday night, the three pool winners will advance to the Friday single-elimination semifinals along with one Wild Card team. The Wild Card will be determined by the best record of the non-advancing teams with any tiebreaker awarded to the highest seeded team.”
https://pac-12.com/article/2023/05/19/bracket-set-2023-pac-12-baseball-tournament-scottsdale
For sure, should have said advance to semis unbeaten, which I think they need to do to secure the host position cause they’re on the bubble for that right now with an RPI of 30
Speculation on Rutschman’s signing considerations…can’t believe he’s approaching 26 already…
https://eutawstreetreport.com/adley-rutschman-extension/
Beavs vs Arizona Wednesday at 10am
Beavs vs ASU Thursday at 10am
I went to look how Adley was doing in MLB this season, and I typed in Adley Stevenson. Lol. Guess I need my coffee.
Anyone notice how MLB baseballs ping pong (like they’re made of rubber) when they hit the bleachers after a HR (i.e. every hit)? Really bizarre.
Beavs make top 4 for DE/OLB from Arizona. 4* recruit has Texas, Washington and Kansas as the other teams in the mix.
Three excellent coaches and Cutty Sark.
Tough decision.
I’m not sold on zona’s coach yet
never mind, zona wasn’t listed
https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/37693310/big-ten-new-commissioner-television-deal-coaches-uncertainty
um…
“Nearly three months before the season kicks off and those TV deals begin, the Big Ten does not have completed longform contracts, which include the fine print details. Instead, Petitti is engaged in significant “horse trading,” according to multiple sources, to get the NBC primetime deal finished and figure out what the network calls “outstanding issues” in order to uphold as much value as possible.”
…yeah.
What a mess! No wonder the Pac-12 Media Rights Deal is taking a long time! Pac-12 has to wait for Big Ten to finalize their deal before we can finalize ours. I wonder how much inventory will be available in the prime-time spots if Big Ten won’t play those games. If they are getting less money, does this really make the USC and UCLA move worth it in the end?
Eggers has a piece up on Bazzana, FWIW, seems to debunk any doubt about the effectiveness of the Beavs coaching staff and Miiiitch in particular:
“…Coach Canham is helping mold me as a person and the player I never knew I could be. He is helping me in great ways. I look up to him. The staff as a whole is awesome.”
https://www.kerryeggers.com/stories/bazzana-looks-to-write-the-ultimate-chapter-ending-in-omaha
Debunking yet another shit-tier take from Angry! His sources must be grandmas on Facebook
Seems a little harsh.
Finishing second in the PAC to Stanford seems pretty respectable. Maybe the most surprising OSU loss was the WSU series. But I give them credit for not quitting early, and playing out the season.
I’m curious if they’ll have a true Friday night guy next year and play with focus every series.
is there any talk about which upper classmen are MLB draft bound this offseason?
Only 3 seniors on the team, so Ferrer/Wheeler/Sellers will be gone. Seems like Forrester is the only Junior at risk of ducking out early, but I have no idea how much of a chance there is.
Forrester is the only legitimate eligible draft prospect on the team right now. Other guys like McDowell might get picked late in the draft.
How many rounds is the draft now?
20
Ryan Brown is a Sophomore but he’s been in the program for 4 years. He’s draft eligible and will definitely be drafted and probably will sign. Brady Kasper is another guy who will get drafted after his break through season. McDowell may get drafted late but he’d be 23 if he came back next year and likely wouldn’t improve his draft stock a whole lot if he came back. I figure the Beavs will lose Brown, Ferrer, Sellers, Kasper, McDowell, Forrester from this team
Prospects Live has Forrester at #162, no other Beavs in the top 400. Lots of Ducks on that list, though.
Seems they’ve really underachieved this year vs talent, while the Beavs have “overachieved.”
Same as it ever was

12:51 I think Oregon State is actually more deserving than a couple of teams we have as hosts, I just don’t think the committee will pull the trigger on a team with a 30 RPI. That’s why we think they need to win a couple of games in the Pac-12 tourney.
RPI typically doesn’t work well for west coast teams but is a crutch to justify stacking the deck for SEC and ACC.
BTW, I don’t think the Beavs are going to do well in postseason this year but I do think they deserve to host based on overall body of work compared to other potential host teams
Beavs have gamed the RPI system for years. Starting the season down in AZ vs less than stellar opponents gives the Beavs a huge boost as neutral wins are worth more than home wins. Now with only one week in AZ this year, the boost is less. And then losing to New Mexico have probably cost the Beavs 5-6 spots in the RPI.
Also it’s been a down year for the normal non conf opponents. Gonzaga, Nevada, Cal Poly, all having bad years.
The non conf series during PAC12 play has usually been a tougher opponent too. Took the SEC football model and scheduled a cupcake before the postseason.
The SEC is a combined 114-141 on the road this season. Florida and Arkansas have losing records on the road. Other top teams are barely above .500. The SEC plays over twice as many home games as road games. They accumulate wins by playing weak NC games at home. Oregon State goes to Arizona and Palm Springs because the weather is good and they’d get rained out at home in February/March. The RPI doesn’t work great for west coast teams. Despite having a .447 winning percentage on the road, the SEC will likely have 5-6 teams host. That doesn’t make sense IMO
Kendall Rogers
12:41 If the Beavers win those two games, they should 100% be a host no matter what they do the rest of the way in the tournament. I will be beating that drum in that scenario.
Beavs make top 5 for 4* OL out of California. Other schools include FSU, USC, Utah and Washington. It’s awesome that we’re starting to make these top lists…weren’t even in the discussion a year or 2 ago. We’ll see what happens this recruiting cycle but if the Beavs can have another 10+ win season I’d imagine that we’d take that next step and start landing these guys.
I suspect the (false) narratives around conference destinations and future PAC and/or MWC playoff relevancy may affect OSU’s recruiting despite the increased quality of play and winning.
Based on the bigxii disinfo campaign in public, you can be sure they are using the uncertainty when talking to recruits in private
I think we also may be seeing the effect of the transfer portal at bigger schools. I was talking with a HS coach and he talked some at Clemson who said they’ve gone from classes of 20-25 signees to 10-15 because they are leaving spots open for transfers
BeaverGopher, 247 sports says your Minny Gophers have 3rd toughest schedule in country next year, you going to any games? Not much detail here, but…
https://247sports.com/LongFormArticle/College-footballs-most-grueling-2023-schedules-ranked-210578073/Amp/
Yup… since they opened the stadium in 2009, I’ve missed only one home game. That was when I went to Madison to see da Beav’s get spanked by the hated Badgers. The game with Johnny Hekker’s backwards punt! Ended up meeting Jason the Beaver from Angrybeavs on the trip.
We get Michigan and Ohio State as two of our crossover games and travel to UNC in the non conference schedule. It is a brutal schedule. I’m planning on going out to Ohio State and the UNC game. It looks like the UCLA is the one I’m going to try to get to in Corvallis.
That’s supposed to be quite the stadium isn’t it? Can’t believe it’s going on year 14 already…it doesn’t have that piecemeal look we’re so familiar with at OSU…
It is a beautiful stadium that was designed as a modern replacement for the old Brick House from the glory years of MN football.
Only 50,500 seats, but built to be expandable to 80k. That will never happen. Great acoustics for concerts as well. Seats have plenty of ass room, so it is a very comfortable place to watch CFB.
Thie format for this Pac12 baseball tournament is crap.
3 x 3 team pools where each of the 3 teams plays each other once. If teams end with the same record, the higher seed wins their pool.
Then, somehow that turns into 4 teams who play a single elimination bracket? So the top 2 teams will have a 4 game week right before heading to the NCAA tournament.
No explanation for how 3 pools turns into a 4 team playoff either. Nicely done Pac12.
https://twitter.com/pac12/status/1660151563787321345?t=PI3y1LPIcx-A4c8RUN0jHA&s=19
“The three pool winners will advance to the Friday single-elimination semifinals along with one Wild Card team. The Wild Card will be determined by the best record of the non-advancing teams. Any tiebreaker will be awarded to the highest seeded team.
The semifinal matchups will pit the highest-seeded team against the lowest-seeded team on one side with the second-highest seed and second-lowest seed on the other. Teams from the same pool however will not play each other in the semifinals.”
So unless Stanford doesn’t advance, the Beavs are guaranteed to play in the semis.
If the Beavs win 1 game in the pod they are guaranteed to advance. If they go 0-2 they will be out.
If Stanford goes 0-2 and Beavs win 1, Beavs would be highest seed for the semis.
Any teams that go 0-2 are eliminated, any teams 2-0 move on to semis, tie breaker for pods of 1-1 teams is conference ranking, best 1-1 team left after pod winners advances as a wildcard based on conference standings. I think.
Seems convoluted rather than a simple 8 team single elimination tourney. Likely trying to get teams extra games for RPI as all teams guaranteed to play 2 games, we certainly know it isn’t a money grab for tv revenue because no one can access PAC12 network anyway.
What if every team goes 1-1? Then the semis are just seeded 1-4?
Yes, that seems to be the case.
Not if Beavs go 1-1 and UA or ASU go 2-0. Then if a team in the Stanford pod (other than Stanford) goes 2-0 Beavs would be out with a 1-1 record.
Ah correct. But anyone other than Stanford in their pod going 2-0 is less likely than Beavs going 1-1 and advancing. Although it is baseball and the Beavs are a very hot/cold team.
Go Beavs!
This has been covered……
The only team the Beavs would lose the wildcard tiebreaker to is Stanford.
If either Cal or Oregon wins pool A with a 2-0 record AND Stanford goes 1-1 is the only way the Beavs don’t advance with just one win.
If neither of those instances happen? One win is all that is needed against UA or ASU. Doesn’t matter.
Edit: above scenario is for the wildcard ONLY. If OSU, ASU and UA all go 1-1 the Beavs would win pool B by virtue of being the highest seeded team and advance. The wildcard would not be necessary.
Swinney summarizes DJ’s record and narrow margin of error at Clemson:
“Swinney on Monday emphasized Uiagalelei’s success as a Clemson quarterback: He left the school 22-6 as the Tigers’ starter…
That included double overtime losses to Notre Dame in 2020 and N.C. State in 2021, a 31-30 home loss to South Carolina to end the 2022 regular season and a 10-3 loss to Georgia, that season’s eventual national champion, to kick off the 2021 season.”
Just win baby
Arizona took down ASU today, so if OSU defeats Arizona tomorrow they would automatically advance to the Friday bracket as a pool winner.
So do they even have a Thursday game vs ASU? Play to win? Or play to save your arms for the back end of the tournament?
This set up is idiotic.
If the Beavs beat Arizona, they absolutely play to win on Thursday vs ASU. They’re on the hosting bubble and need every win they can get. It will be a very important game for them
“So do they even have a Thursday game vs ASU?”
Did you forget about the wildcard? ASU would still be in play. Even with an 0-1 record.
I do agree that this set up is absurd.
So is Ferrer the likely starter for tomorrow?
Hope so. He should be starting the first game from here on out.
Unless turd goes 1 and 1
Arizona whooped ASU 12-3 and USC beat UCLA 6-4 in the early games today.
What I learned today: never go to Costa Rica. Or if you do, never order a drink. Holy fuck.
Why and why?
I’ve been to Belize and enjoyed it. I want to try Costa Rica…
One of our fellow ABers. I’ll let him tell the story if he wants, but wow.
Finally! The story behind the real jack’s disappearance.
Sellers All-PAC honorable mention? Isn’t that surprising?
https://www.oregonlive.com/sports/2023/05/oregon-states-travis-bazzana-garret-forrester-named-to-all-pac-12-1st-team-4-beavers-earn-honorable-mention-honors.html
I’d say so, especially after his last 4 or 5 games. Despite nit going deep into the games he at least had a good record. However, his last several appearances really hurt his stats. Still #2 in strike outs but after that he was between 10th and 30th in a lot of categories.
Friday starter for second place team in the conference, he got it based only on his strikeouts and he was the Friday starter…steep drop off from previous Friday starter/all conference pitchers we’ve seen at Goss.
A Beavs win today over UA will lock up a spot in the semifinals. ASU’s loss yesterday assured that.
A nice benefit for finishing 2nd in regular season play
Hat tip to Cal
So pac 12 baseball tourney schedule….why is it that some teams that won yesterday are playing again today while some teams that lost get a rest and play tomorrow. Seems to me if you win your first game you should get the day off. Looks like it was already determined the higher seed was going to get the day off regardless of the day 1 result.
Pretty standard pool play format with 3 teams is 2 seed plays 3 in first game, then 1 plays the 3 and then plays the 2. I actually don’t mind the format that most seem to hate. Rewards the best teams in the regular season with tiebreaker rules while also not burning through arms like crazy to make the semis/finals. Only thing that stinks is now teams like UCLA and Cal have nothing to play for in their last game with their season effectively done.
Top WR target for Beavs making his choice at 2pm on 5/29. Zona, Cal, Oklahoma state and Washington are the other 4 in his top 5. Listed as 5’11” olby 24/7 sports. 3 star.
No Brady Kasper in the lineup and Ben Ferrer starting. Hopefully Brady can come back for regionals. They’ll need him as he’s been probably their third best hitter the last 2 months. Jaren Hunter has a chance at returning for regionals. This would obviously be huge for their pitching as he was their best starter this season and really made a significant leap forward this season.
Beavs pitching looks downright horrific right now. Pretty shocking to see a Beaver squad that can’t pitch. Offense looks elite as they have been for well over a month but the lack of starting pitching makes basically every game a slugfest
Does Mitch allocate scholarships differently than Casey did? Or have we just struck out on the aces that are given full scholarships? Always seemed like the Casey teams were 3 solid starters, an ok closer and shaky middle relief that you hoped you never got to.
It has been noticeable that the Beavs haven’t really got a high level starting pitcher with Mitch and his staff. It’s the main issue right now. They really have to be in the transfer portal to fill that hole right now. The rest of the roster is national championship caliber in 2024
2022 – Copper Hjerpe. The #22 pick last year.
2021 – Kevin Abel
2020 – Christian Chamberlin
These were all recruits under Casey unless I’m mistaken about Hjerpe being brought on by MC. Played under MC but they haven’t seemed to recruit the high caliber pitching yet. Kmatz would likely be the best pitching recruit they’ve gotten from the HS ranks unless some of these current freshman develop into something better.
I’ve said this before, but it appears that MC is embracing the Mariners model. Going for offense and hope that the pitching is good enough to hang on. Interestingly, Mariners pitching from an ERA perspective is fairly good despite being a .500 ball club. However, this is definitely a departure from the recent history for sure. It’s an ideology shift that still is taking getting used to. Unless this year is an anomaly, gone are the days of great pitching, great defense and fundamentals that Casey preached. This squad is good defensively from a fielding perspective but I don’t really recall very many “OMG did you see that play” moments. Some great offensive highlights but not so many defensive highlights that stand out. The pitching this year has had some moments where it’s shined but that’s been very inconsistent. We’re lucky if one of our starters goes beyond the 5th inning …really an incredible departure from what we’ve grown accustomed to. Made a post last week too questioning the pitching for next year. Unless some guys make some serious strides over the offseason or some serious xfer talent is found, this starting rotation seems like it’s going to be worse than it is now.
Gavin Turley is officially looking like the guy he was before slumping. He’s made the adjustment and just hitting missiles everywhere. Offense is basically unstoppable when he’s this locked in
Turley staying locked in.
I get Ben is still new to the starting rotation but his outings haven’t been any different than our other starters. It’s wild to see us needing to start getting the bullpen going in the 4th inning on a regular basis.
Already switched pitchers here in the 4th. Christ, we’re going to go thru 5 or 6 pitchers today. 6-5 Beavs heading to the 5th.
Turly with a 3rd double and scores another. 2 wild pitches and Turley goes from 2nd to 3rd then 3rd to home. Needed those WPs as next 2 beavs couldn’t move him over. 8-5 bravs going to bottom of 5th.
Keljo out and hutcheson in. 3rd pitcher of the day and we’re not thru the 5th. Beavs might need to cut some position spots next year and bring in more pitching. Gonna a need more pitchers to run thru 5 or 6 guys a game.
On the topic of pitching, was Mundt supposed to be the Friday night starter? The lack of starting depth is unlike anything we have seen for a while. Usually there have been 2 experience starters who are 1a and 1b.
Not sure but I’ve not seen anything from Lattery or any of the young guys that would suggest any of them would deserve to be a game 2, 3 or 4 guy…assume Kmatz is the Friday guy next season. The freshman I get not being ready for starting rotation but the 2nd and 3rd year guys who you’d normally be pointing to taking those spots are knowwhere to be found. Lattery good for 35 pitched then he gets the laces smashed off. Thor isn’t getting much run time right now when the bullpen isn’t great. Lawson is another guy that’s good for 20-30 pitches. It’s not good
MIIIITTTTTCH
Why do we not have any elite pitchers that can throw off speed and not hanging fastballs and breaking balls? Still 3 more innings left and 12 outs to win the game.
first 6 batters have reached base– 5 runs in— no outs— get him out of there what the hell?
That’s game. I’m out.
ugh….this game is getting away from the Beavs for sure.
I thought Dorman was doing a pretty decent job up until about late April but since then, the pitching has been a complete disaster. Basically every single pitcher has struggled bad. That does not reflect well on him. Inexcusable to be this bad when there is obvious talent.
I’ve not been a fan of RD since year 1. He had this squad looking good for a 3-4 week period but outside of that, pretty ugly stuff. Not to mention, how can a starting rotation be so bad for a school that has made a name for itself with great pitching?! Even in down years there’s been an Ace and a few reliable in the pen. This year it’s Brown and even he’s been not as dominant as he was last year or early this year. Not sure Dorman has even helped Kmatz. He seemed to be much better the first half of last year until the last month or so. I assumed it was due to length of the season and being a freshman but perhaps the more time he’s spent under Dorman the worse he’s gotten.
WTF???
Beavs needing to score at least 13 runs if they are to win this game is absurd. Leave Dorman in Arizona
This game is tied
Turly! Kid thrives in AZ
Beavs tie it up. Still have 2 outs to work with in top 8th
Turley’s on fire today
Those PAC 12 commercials make me want to hurl.
What do you have against Pow-Wows?
Bazzana going bananas
Wow. Choke job. Bazanna on 3rd with 0 outs and you get nothing. Incredible. Tied at 12. Bottom of 9th. Can Brown make it thru and send to extra innings?
That at-bat by Mason Guerra was one of his worst of the season. He looked like he knew he was gonna swing at anything even remotely around the plate and got himself out
He was trying to be a hero and swinging for the fences instead of being patient and waiting for the right pitch. It was frustrating to watch him at the plate.
Do other teams fail to score with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs as much as the Beavs?
Beavs blowing first and third no outs, then Bazzana can’t catch a pop up and now it looks like Arizona might win. Probably lose a hosting shot with a loss. Would be a brutal loss
There’s one of those defensive plays I said have been far between this year. Bazanna throws a strike to home on a grounder and they get the force at 3rd. 2 down. Runners on 1st and 2nd.
MITCH!
MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH!!!!
Beavs ain’t gonna be hosting at Goss next week now. Offense continues to be incredible but you aren’t making a run with this pitching. Mitch has to upgrade the pitching significantly before next season.
What’s criminal about this we burned 5 pitchers in this loss with Brown throwing the 2nd most pitches at 37. Not sure exactly how all the recovery stuff works but that many throws by the closer over 2 innings is likely making him unavailable for days. With the loss, it seems like the Beavs would be better off walking away from the tourney. With the cluster fuck of a tourney I’m not even 100% sure if a win advances them…think there’s still some scenarios where they don’t advance even after winning right? Too bad. Regardless, with the way the starting pitching is, we’re fucked for any kind of post-season. You can’t expect to win with starters not making it past the 4th inning. That’s just insane. Every game has turned into pitch by committe. Truly sad. However, I need to keep in mind that this team has definitely outperformed my expectations. I had them pegged as a 5-7 place team and they go and finish in 2nd place. Props to MC. What’s frustrating is that they’ve never truly put a game together where offense and pitching were on there best. Early in p12 season the pitching was great from an era perspective even if the innings weren’t there but the offense was lucky to get 2 hits in a game. Now the offense is consistent but pitching is the worst it’s ever been in recent memory. I don’t know what the hell Dorman does. How can we have no ace one the squad? Not 1? It’s understandable that you’re not going to be stacked at the starting rotation year in and year out but we’ve always had 1 guy in the rotation carrying the torch and a few bullpen guys. Zero ace’s on this team and Brown as our best reliever has been shaky down the stretch.
why no suicide squeeze with Micah up?
I want to hear this Costa Rica story. My brother in law is headed there next week and I want to pass the cautionary tale on to him
I asked him to come share it. We’ll see.
Miiiiiiiiiiiiitch!!!
Dooooorman!!!!!
Show him the door, man
“That’s like an ice cream man named Cone!”
When does fall camp start for football? The baseball season is over…in less than 4 games based on Beavs starting pitching.
Let’s start a football thread and move on, no longer a baseball school, OSU is a football school now.
Blueblood?
Is there any possible scenario in which we still host without winning the tourney or did MIIIIIITTTTTCH and crew mess that up today?
Yes. Win tomorrow plus have Stanford advance. Then win 1 more and play in finals. Don’t need to win tournament but need to get to finals to host
Stanford is into the semis no matter what they do today, whereas the yucks need a win to advance. I wonder how much that affects that game. I’m not loving this tourney format where so much depends on what other teams do. . . .unless, of course, you happen to be good enough to win every game, but who are we kidding, that’s not us.
Lawson throws nearly 40 pitches in the 1st. Didn’t give up any runs but we’re going to be using the whole bullpen today. Goodness.
Rhett Larson. My apologies. I think ASU will score 12+ easy. Larson might be close to his season high pitches in 1st inning. Of course we go 1,2,3 and their guy throws 16 pitches.
Gives up leadoff walk. Back to back base hits and bases are juiced with 0 outs. Top of the order coming up. Can we wave the white flag? Throw in the towel? No point in playing this out and risking any injuries.
No need to worry about what other teams are doing if you go 0-2…
This is why good starting pitching is still better for post season than putting up 12 runs a game. 6-1 ASU. We’ve got 4 hits today into the 5th inning. We might still get some good offense today but it ain’t always going to be there. Dorman is trash.
Yup!
WTF was Miiiiitch thinking with the pitching decision?
I hope to hell they leave this picture and he’s our best weapon!
Pitcher lol
Piiiiitch!
Major baserunning screwup!
OT: A Duck site confers w/a Beaver site and offers a 2023 preview of the Beavers:
https://www.addictedtoquack.com/platform/amp/2023/5/24/23735155/duck-dive-oregon-state-football-2023-preview
hate to say it, but the duck writer goes more in depth and seems to know the Beavs far better than any OSU writer.
There are a few areas where he’s not taking into account potential portal/JUCO additions as we head to fall camp (Thinking CB/WR/RB) but overall he has a pretty good idea of what’s happening with OSU this year.
The QB statistics of DJ vs OSU QBs the past 2-3 years is a little concerning. Makes it sounds like we’re due for basically the same level of output we’re accustomed to from that position. Hope that’s wrong, but the stats don’t show it.
“The QB statistics of DJ vs OSU QBs the past 2-3 years is a little concerning. Makes it sounds like we’re due for basically the same level of output we’re accustomed to from that position.”
I thought that was interesting too. I don’t think he discusses DJ’s running responsibilities there, or how many TDs he accounted for on ground. His INT totals were lower than OSU QBs’ too.
And i know OSU won’t ask him to run near as much, so hopefully he can focus more on passing.
DJ also has the size and experience reading Ds to fill Colletto’s short yardage role?
The author and a commenter both think the recruiting game is passing Smith by as they don’t think he utilizes the transfer portal enough.
“Tibesar had been trying to run a 3-4 front, but hadn’t had a reliable nose tackle for years and was forced into a misaligned 2-4-5.”
Haha, yikes. Fortunately we have enough interior linemen never to run that again.
It’s in-depth, but I like how the Quack writer quickly dismisses Newell’s carries last year. If a remember correctly he had two pretty important TD runs against the Quacks! Those didn’t seem like “garbage time” runs!
More like “time against garbage” runs
Right? 4th quarter when Ducks are losing a substantial lead…
To be fair, he was throwing high knees, and there really was no reason to do so, given the D.
ASU scored 11-12 runs on us every game in that series, so this is really no surprise.
The Arizona loss is the biggest f-up. They clearly out-scouted us.
Beavs offered another JUCO WR today. He’s been on an official visit the past couple of days, so seems like a good sign that they’ve identified someone who is also ready to commit. Now they have to go through the motions of making offers visible on twitter and then the whole Dam Right thing and all that.
So anyway, I have a good feeling about this one eventually turning into a Beaver commitment
https://twitter.com/kingbsmith22/status/1661804901289332736
Brandon Smith – 6’0″ 210lb WR/RB from Santa Barbara City College
https://www.hudl.com/video/3/17552521/633b2d931763a20c0c1fb1e5
I’ll be curious to see what role they see him filling. Most of his highlights are more from the RB position or short yardage passing situations, although he does have a few deeper receptions mixed in.
Was just noticing his Official Visit photo has him listed as a RB.
Seems like the last position we would need to bring in JUCO depth for this season.
That always has me concerned that we have an unknown injury we’ll hear about later. Either that or somebody else is retiring/transferring, because even without Trey Lowe, you’d think our RB room is stacked with Martinez/Jam/Fenwick and Newell.
Unless they just really like what this guy brings to the table so much that they think he’d crack that rotation
They may be thinking of the next season and not the upcoming one for depth.
Maybe because Fenick and Griffen are seniors? How many years of eligibility does he have?
Fenwick is a senior, but Jam is a RS Junior this upcoming season. So we potentially still would have Martinez/Jam/Newell available for 2024.
This JC guy looks like he’d have 3 seasons plus a redshirt remaining
Well so much for hosting! Why the hell Miiitch pitched a mid week guy for a game that they really needed to win is beyond me? Doesn’t want to be a host I guess.
I think this was a good decision to get the hell out of dodge once that first loss was in the books. They gained 0nout of this tourney after that loss to Zona.
Because he’s Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch?
Because they didn’t really need to win it. ?????
Yeah I’m done with this team for the year. See y’all in the Fall for football.
…no!!!…..don’t go!!!…..
All of our hopes rested on this one fan. We can’t afford to lose him
*”fan”
These duck trolls can’t quit us; dum dum won’t be going anywhere.
Bi-mart is selling some more cheap fans.
They win their regional and I don’t know that any of this matters… hard to see them winning the regional at this point though.
Rich Dorman needs to be let go tonight. Since April 20th, Beavs have allowed teams to score double digits on them 9 times and 5 times in the last 20 days. It’s embarrassing how bad they are on the mound right now and he needs to be held accountable for this mess
Maybe after the BBQ next week.
I get you want to see how players react in certain situations to know if you can count on them in the future, but why not pinch-hit for Cedillo with the bases loaded when he’s been almost an automatic strikeout at the plate the past 2 months? I mean, the chance to host was still on the line.
I kinda think after the loss last night they figured it was better to cut and run. Yeah winning 3 more would’ve been great but would’ve been worth the capital to do it? We wouldn’t have any arms left going though 5 or 6 guys each game much less be in any condition to go in for the big tournament. There’s major issues that appear as a result of your starters only going 3-4 innings. They won’t say it but if you’re serious about winning vs ASU to advance at all costs you sure as hell don’t roll out your guy that started 2 or 3 mid-week games all year. They teed off on our “best” starters not sure what would make you realistically think the every other mid-week starter guy is going to do. This pitching staff is in shambles. I think Jimenez will be good and if not, he’s at least a fiery bastard and that counts for something. Our starting rotation next year would appear to be Kmatz, Hunter (if he can even come back from injury) and Lattery.
If Lattery is a starter we are screwed. He is a 2-3 inning reliever at best. Keljo has the arm talent to be big time pitcher and I suspect if Yeskie was still here, he would be our Sunday guy by this time.
Yeskies squad doesn’t look like much either tbh, not sure why everyone thinks he’s a savior of some sort
They seem to be doing something right.
Off topic, but so amazing. I don’t get the AI fear. It’s going to make our lives incredible.

How do know this is you and not an AI generated message?
Alright who’s got the captcha ready?
I can’t wait till they figure out how to merge our broken body with an animal body. Imagine using your brain to control your new Gorilla body. Real life Donkey Kong
Like all technology (even social media!), there will be good and bad. We’ll need rules in place to help minimize the bad.
Fortunately the people who make our laws are reasonable, intelligent, and just and have especially proven themselves over the last few tumultuous years. Republican or Democrat, I trust them to do the right thing. I will sit back and wait for their instructions.
This was a brilliant strategy by MC. Going into the Regionals with optimal rest.
Hope it helps. This staff is a hot mess. As pointed out above, 9x they’ve given up double digits all starting with ASU. Before that? 0 times all season. That includes Stanford series and Yucks. I’d be scared right now to have any of these pitchers face Stanford line-up. They’ve hit 100 HR this year. 317 team batting avg. How deflating would this be to get bumped from regionals and pac12 tourney cause we give up 10+ each game? Those 9 games we gave up double digits…We’ve lost 7 of them and many we also scored double digits. As good as the offense has been the last month we don’t win the boat races.
Most frustrating part of all this is the offense has been amazing for the last 6 weeks and if the pitching was just average, this team would have a regional host spot locked up. They don’t need the pitching to be great, just need them to be not god awful. Really frustrating season so far
Yep. Even giving up 6 or 7 runs a game would’ve meant a lot more wins for this squad. Even if the staff is able to rest up I don’t see this problem with starting pitching fixing itself now. They’ve struggled to go past the 4th inning all year. A long outing for these starters is getting thru 5 full innings. I’m not sure any of them have went beyond 7 full this year and very few times have they went thru 6 full. It’d like every game is pitching by committee and not just the weekday games.
I would love to have enough good arms to run a solid 5-3-1 rotation… with the same amount of pitches our starters throw in 4 or 5 innings.
I’m optimistic that this team will play well in regional. They have tended to bounce back all year. Pitching will be rested and the team is confident at the plate. I’d like to see them get sent out to SEC or ACC host. The team has exceeded expectations despite a tough couple days at P12 tournament. Best to get that out of their system.
Perhaps Mitch is playing 5d chess and we are all reactive.
The bats are alive and pitching is bad every time we travel to AZ. Maybe he is hoping to be sent to an SEC regional and win a slugfest, and give the guys a chip on the shoulder for next year about missing out on hosting a regional.
Or Dorman is just a goober and needs to catch the next bus out of town.
Well we had that chip on our shoulder from last year being bounced from 1st round. Just not sure Dorman is it. Any success he’s had so far seems to have largely resulted from the good arms that were already on squad or commits under Casey tenure. Not really sure who he’s developed during his time. Hjerpe was obviously a ridiculously great pitcher but in an interview he gave he credited a pitching academy he worked with for helping him develop some of his pitches. Not saying Dorman didn’t have any impact but it’s kind of interesting that he wasn’t even mentioned while the other group was.
I guess the larger question for me is that is this truly a shift in philosophy? Obviously they’re not going to be happy giving up so many runs, not being able to go longer than 4 innings, etc but it really seems like the focus has been bringing in the offensive players vs bringing in the pitching talent. Even looking at some of the commits on Twitter (yes it’s not a complete picture as not everyone has a Twitter handle) but in the commitment announcements I’ve seen in recent history its primarily position players. I very well could be missing some but the only pitching recruit I’ve seen announce recently was Kmatz’s brother. Also telling is how often we’ve had to tap into the JUCO for pitching. Definitely not uncommon in baseball to grab JUCO guys but the amount of pitchers we’ve grabbed the last few years, not to mention the “Ace” in Sellers is concerning. Where’s the breakdown? No interest in pitchers coming here anymore? Not the focus of the program? Can’t develop the talent we do bring in? Can’t accurately identify talent? RD can’t recruit in general? A lot of these questions lead back to RD. If he can’t recruit then he better be able to develop the guys we do bring in and that hasn’t seemed to play out thus far.
Didn’t Dorman or whoever it was have some good pitching talent but some of them went to the draft like the other Abel? Isn’t there one this coming year with the same thing? I am fine moving on from Dorman but it seems like maybe they need to go after top guys but guys that will show up on campus. Casey went through the same thing around 2012 ish I thought it was where he was getting high recruits but they weren’t getting on campus. That’s really how the 2018 team came together was getting guys that were willing to come to campus rather than go to the draft (Madrigal).
Draft/college back and forth. Adley went to college, thus, soon to be too old for a MLB catcher. A manager saying MLB doesn’t need college kids and can well take care of prospects out of high school through the minor league system. Money a factor. One example only: I was in Colorado in 2014 and noted when Max George, Jesuit High School in Aurora, had committed to OSU but signed with the Rockies for a bonus of $620,000, released in 2022.
Reading that article on Adley does seem like he may miss out on some money, but he should get at least one more good payday.
Had to look that Max George dude up…
AA (2 seasons)
A+ (1 season)
A (4 seasons)
A- (1 season)
Rk (2 seasons)
~600k signing and what other monies were paid?
600 isn’t really life altering money, I mean it’s a nice chunk but what’s he doing after he flames out in the minors? I know I read somewhere HS signees can also get college paid for in their contract as well but you’re not getting the same college experience as a 28 yo, unless your name is Luton.
Tough decision either way, especially when you’re 17, 18, 19.
Hmmm… being in my late 20s… with some money in my pocket… and going to college….
Sounds better than working three part time jobs and still having dome bills to pay, when all is said and done.
should have noted, he never got out of the minors.
Just like R Kelly!
That’s what she… hey!
That’s wrong!
Seemed pretty clear that Mitch wasn’t going to make his guys go on a shorter schedule so he went with the others and it didn’t work. Now that guarantees a long cross country trip somewhere. Probably against a blue blood.
So the big questions are how much does that affect the pitchers who didn’t throw. Did Sellers and Kmatz need the rest? I’m sure they’ll get a few innings in during the weekend for simulated games. Does Ferrer get the ball in a third game in the regionals?
Looking like the Beavs will have to slug their way out regionals. Might get lucky with one starter having a great outing, but not all three.
LATEST D1 PROJECTIONS:
Beavs 2 seed in Lexington……1 seed is Kentucky
Tree 1 hosting……#2 is Texas
nike 3 seed in Clemson
SC 3 seed in Stillwater
UW 2 seed in Baton Rouge
Only one regional in the west, no surprise.
The reason Larson started yesterday is bc Kmatz is done for the year. There’s no 5d chess. This pitching staff is LIMPING into the post season. With Hunter and Kmatz OFS…it will be a miracle if they can get out of a regional.
I hadn’t seen that about Kmatz, is that common knowledge?
Don’t know if it’s common knowledge…but he tweaked his arm in his last outing and the staff is likely shutting him down for the rest of the year.
Well Daschel was running interference on Twitter this morning saying, yeah pitching wasn’t great in P12 tournament cause pitchers needed rest or injuries and that the ball park was also to blame. So, the nod to the injury is perhaps Kmatz? Regardless, he’s conveniently left out the 9x this has happened in the last 20 games which is also a contributing factor to the pitchers needing rest. Feel bad for Kmatz if true.
Seems like Daschel reads “Angry Beavs” and then does a dismissive post on Twitter in an attempt to show he knows more and to prove that everyone in here is wrong.
so it was me angry was talking about. im going to make this short and sweet just because im kind of traumatized by the event but saw that someone has family so want them to know. Basically was travelling alone surfing and went to a bar left a drink unattended or something got drugged and someone stole my cellphone and debit card. this left me broke and unable to contact anyone in a foreign country with nowhere to go. was basically only rescued by an angel costa rican girl and her family otherwise i dont know where i would be right now. the rest will have to wait.
costa rica is fine if your not alone and are in more tourist areas than i was. also if you are more careful than i was being. i was busy chasing the best waves instead of worrying about my safety. let my story be a cautionary tale but it shouldnt stop you from going. safe travels to anyone that goes.
Holy shit. Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully that will fade with time.
Lucky you woke up with kidneys.
Damn. I’m glad you’re ok, physically at least. If it gets to be too much to cope with on your own, don’t shy away from seeking resources to help with mental/emotional recovery.
Wow, that’s horrible. It’s also a cautionary tale for anyone out for drinks in the US. I think in general women are more conscious of it, but boys need to watch their beers, too. There’s been some arrests here in Bend with some fucks doing that.
We chased down a ring in Oahu that was doing it to sevicemembers at certain bars.
New kids show up on the rock and spend one of their first weekends downtown, only to be rufied and led to an atm, to empty their checking accounts… and then just left on the street, to wander.
Had to partner with CID and blacklist a couple bars, it was so bad.
ya i was lucky i came to for a moment or something when the guy was telling me to go to the atm and i just took off in a sprint for my hotel and locked the door.
Thanks for coming here to share it. When I read that, I was horrified, and thought people should know, so I’m glad you did it. Agree don’t get too macho to get resources if needed…this is definitely something that could be PTSD inspiring. I’d try to focus on the costa rican girl. (a) because she was probably cute and (b) she shows the good in people. I think focusing on that more than the other could get you over the mental hump.
No problem. Ya she was doubly hot because of how good of a person she was.
What a horrible experience & thank goodness nothing worse happened!
Thank you for choosing to be open as well. =\
Be sure to take whatever time you feel you need, as others have already encouraged.
Beavs make top 8 for 4* RB from chandler, AZ. One of the perennial powerhouse programs in AZ. Miami, yucks, Penn state, Utah, Michigan state, Illinois and Auburn are the others. Awesome to be in the running yet again, would love to see us land one or 2 of these though.
https://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2023/05/oregon-state-boosts-football-assistant-coaches-salaries-to-475-million-for-2023-season.html
Good to see the assistants get some well earned raises.
Angry, the contributions should be coming again. Let me know if not.
An update from Henny Penny:
The Monty Show out of SLC is saying that Ducks to Big10 and Colorado to Big 12 are pretty much done deals once the PAC12 announces how bad the media deal will be.
SDSU needs to notify MWC by June 31 of their intention to depart or it will cost them an extra $17m on top of the $17m they would already need to pay to leave. SDSU has made no move to do so yet, which means they may be out of the running to join the PAC12?
Monty speculates that it would be in the best interest of OSU to reach out to BIg12 and jump with Colorado before others jump so Beavs aren’t left behind with WSU and the MWC.
Sounds fair enough if the whole thing is going to crash down.
They are saying the BIG10 wants to add at least 4 more from the west with USC/UCLA and expect it to be Ducks, UW, Stanford and Cal because of tv markets.
Cal would be a punching bag for the entire conference in most sports…
Also saying UA is pretty much gone when the numbers come out.
No shot that the media deal will be close to Big12, and forget approaching SEC or BIG10 $$$’s.
Apparently ESPN and Fox approached PAC12 last year and urged a merger with Big12 but PAC12 brass wasn’t interested and rebuffed the networks. The timing was such that shortly afterwards both networks approached Big12 and structured a media rights deal about 2 years earlier than scheduled as a way of axing out the PAC12 and reducing possibilities for long term survival of the conference.
Kloakoff and the school presidents have stepped into quicksand. USC has destroyed the conference in at least 3 events in recent decades:
1)Larry Scott was on the verge of adding Texas, Oklahoma, Ok St and ISC objected at the last minute and the expansion collapsed into adding Utah and Colorado
2)PAc12 was preparing to merge with Big12 and join forces after Texas/Oklahoma left for SEC but USC objected
3) USC secretly negotiated a deal to join BIG10 without any warning to the conference.
The conference is the major west coast college sports attraction but it is being dissected by many power brokers at many levels and the university presidents and ADs don’t seem to be aware of the problem. If Kliakoff does have a $2 billion dollar solution I this economy he needs to be rewarded handsomely because it sure feels like a sinking ship and not many are paying attention…
Unreal. Oregon wins the Pac-12 tournament title over Arizona. Raise your hand of you had the 6th and 8th seeds in the tournament final
Final RPI’s (tomorrow’s games probably won’t affect much on the left coast)
Stanford 17
Oregon 33
OSU 35
UW 36
Arizona 45
ASU 49
USC 54
UCLA 64
I wrote it here last weekend. Beavs got a tough draw with having both Arizona schools in their bracket. Not sure it would have mattered though with the recent lack of pitching……
Stanford will be the only regional host. They are a lock along with Oregon, OSU and UW to make the tournament. Arizona is an enigma that has recently improved their stock with a run to the conference tournament final. Should they get in with a 12-18 conference record in the regular season? And if they DO sneak in how can you justify leaving out ASU and USC? Honestly I think ASU and USC SHOULD be in despite RPI’s on shaky ground.
UCLA is out. No way do they get in.
Honestly I don’t think the Beavs make it out of any regional. I said this was a regional team at best and I stand by that.
We’ll find out where the chips fall on Monday morning.
Happy Memorial Day and thank you to all that have served you AB degenerates.
I know it’s a nit, but this weekend is for those who served and didn’t come home, not for the rest of us.
But thanks for the sentiment.
Exactly…
Latest D1 baseball projection has the Beavs as a 2 seed in Lexington. ASU as one of the last 4 in, Arizona as the first team out.
Based on these projections, if I were a road team? I think Boston would be the best case regional.
Arizona, ASU and USC are all going to be sweating it out on Monday morning.
https://d1baseball.com/postseason/d1baseball-field-of-64-projections-may-27/
7 SEC teams hosting a regional out of 16 sights is a farce and rigs the system significantly. Ridiculous template for favoring certain conferences in metrics and then circular reasoning to justify the host sites thereafter.
I hope any conference but SEC can win in Omaha.
Go Beavs!
I don’t disagree. At all
So how do we change it?
Well this is why a lot of people have lost interest in NCAA sports. It’s ESPN and the SEC colluding. It’s a 15 year problem now, so this is nothing new.
If the Quacks had face-planted in the P-12 tournament like the Beavs unfortunately did, would they have missed out on the NCAA’s? That would have been sweet to see. Alas, they somehow pulled their shit together.
The ducks were in even if they went 0-2.
I thought I read some stuff about them being on the bubble.
Check out this title game. I guess this is HS baseball? I can’t tell, but it looks it. Suddenly Miiiiiiiiiitch doesn’t look so bad!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdpLTsJFjtU&t=8095s
I don’t get it. The C tagged the runner in the box and waved the ball at the ump, to make sure he saw it, which it looked like he did, since he walked out onto the field and removed his mask.
The catcher didn’t tag him. You can see the ump wave “safe” (I’m sure he said it, too)…super nuts.
I wouldn’t be sure on the speaking part. I see what you’re saying on the safe call, since it looks like he’s maybe moving his left arm too, but it looked at first like he was confirming the 1st base ump’s call on a swing, while the C is looking back for the call.
Regardless of the tag, what is the penalty for illegal participation in baseball? I couldn’t imagine that it should have been a live ball and that the runner from 1st should have allowed to score.
Catchers fault, he drops the ball and doesn’t make the tag, when he looks back at the ump he clearly indicates safe while watching the runner advance to first. Catcher was preoccupied with wanting the save the ball for himself during the celebration, slips it in his back pocket.
Good catch. I didn’t see the ball go in the pocket, but you could see it there while he was celebrating. His infield teammate realized something was wrong but could not find the ball to make any tag.
I saw some Big 12 “source” decided to rehash the old, “Colorado definitely moving to Big 12” crap again, and everyone at Colorado did their collective, “Whatever… why do you even ask me this shit, anymore?” shrug of the shoulders.
It’s got to be tough, now dealing with the sheer stupidity of just re-running outright lies for clicks.
My favorite part of these rehashes is “the ducks are moving to the Big 10 because of TV market”.
Yeah, the massive metropolitan market that is Eugene Oregon*rolleyes*.
We’ll they have a national brand…
Let the thumbs down ensue for speaking the truth.
This. People don’t get it’s about total reach and buzz, not just regional market. There is overlap, but they aren’t the same thing.
Went to high school track meets on the east coast and I’d always see at least half a dozen people wearing a Duck hat or shirt. Barf
Yep, and if you tell anyone out East you went to OSU, they think you’re the Ducks. Even NCAA football telecasters say this. Whether we like it or not, they have a National brand.
Our job as Beavs is to change that and make ourselves relevant. Not to deny the Ducks are what they are out of jealousy.
If people on the East Coast confuse OSU and the Ducks, maybe the Ducks don’t quite have the reach you think they do.
That’s not how it works. They know the Ducks, and then on top of that they think OSU are the Ducks. Basically, they have every idea who Oregon is, and no idea who OSU is.
Was recently talking to a UO grad, he said “OSU, decent natural resources education, bad football team.” Now, historically bad football PROGRAM over the life of the program, but that was a good TEAM last year..another UO grad in the room laughed when I said was an OSU grad…neither explained why the Ducks lost to a “bad football team” with half a stadium capacity…poor defense and special teams might have been contributing factors.
They’re national brand is tied to Nike, and I read they also do well in markets that don’t have pro teams. I think they attract a lot of trashy fans who never went to school there but think they’re cool.
Ugly Nike unis have found their way to MLB too….yeesh.
“ they attract trashy fans who think the Ducks are cool”…I’d say this is spot on. Trashy fans who delude themselves to think being a duck fan elevates them out of the trailer park they occupy, and this is nationwide.
Nike/Oregon both capitalize on the style over substance marketing strategy.
I would say it’s a brilliant strategy to market your apparel to people whose whole wardrobe is stretchy polyester.
Like it or not, those people spend money and make up what others are saying is their national brand.
Not sure why a UO alum would laugh at OSU, other than the weird flex on sports being their whole value.
…neither explained why the Ducks lost to a “bad football team”…
And that for 2 of the last 3
We can thank Chip Kelly and then ESPN latching on to the Ducks as a national brand. Belloti had some good football teams, but they were not there yet until Chipster brought his exciting innovations. ESPN kept it going even though there have been some less than stellar Quack teams over the past decade. I had to laugh during their 4-8 disaster under Heimlich, that Duck mascot was still in multiple ESPN commercials, that’s when I knew the brand was not going away.
Learned today my band mate is vacationing in Costa Rica in like ten days. Glad you shared that story. I’m going to warn him when I see him next week.
Are you a part of the alumni marching band that performs at halftime before school starts in the fall? I appreciate what you guys do holding down full time jobs but still getting out there and marching at halftime. If there’s a way to donate to your cause please let us know.
I’m surprised you’re still a free man and not on 48 hours mystery yet.
Regional hosts (8 are SEC)
Alabama (Tuscaloosa, Ala.)
Arkansas (Fayetteville, Ark.)
Auburn (Auburn, Ala.)
Clemson (Clemson, S.C.)
Coastal Carolina (Conway, S.C.)
Florida (Gainesville, Fla.)
Indiana State (Terre Haute, Ind.)
Kentucky (Lexington, Ky.)
LSU (Baton Rouge, La.)
Miami (Coral Gables, Fla.)
Oklahoma State (Stillwater, Okla.)
South Carolina (Columbia, S.C.)
Stanford (Stanford, Calif.)
Vanderbilt (Nashville, Tenn.)
Virginia (Charlottesville, Va.)
Wake Forest (Winston-Salem, N.C.)
Oklahoma State is the second farthest west school.
Indiana State?
The Sycamores had a good record, I guess the strength of schedule counts even when you lose most of the games? They beat Vanderbilt in a one-off game but they were swept by Kentucky. When I looked over their game-by-game it didn’t seem hosting worthy, but I’m just a smuck compared to the selection committee!
D1 baseball final projection has the Beavs going to Winston-Salem as a 2 seed.
https://d1baseball.com/top-stories/d1baseball-field-of-64-projections-may-29-final-edition/
Well, if Beavs get some decent pitching, they may get an upset in one of those regionals and be hosting a super regional which would be sweet justice.
I’m not too confident but they may hit their way into a super regional after all.
Go Beavs!
Likely able to best Tulane? They’re getting in with a RPI of 164 and a record of 19-40.
https://sports.yahoo.com/college-baseball-team-went-19-223409787.html
How tall is she and can she catch?!?
11.0 sec 100 meter dash and a junior, sub-11 likely coning:
https://www.oregonlive.com/highschoolsports/2023/05/lake-oswegos-mia-brahe-pedersen-finishes-the-100-meter-dash-with-another-oregon-high-school-record.html
Wasn’t James Rodgers something like 10.3?
Baton Rouge it is…..
1. LSU
2. Oregon State
3. Sam Houston St
4. Tulane
Beavs will open vs Sam Houston St on Friday, time tba
Greg Street starting his stretching routine hoping to get the call
Not optimistic. Hell, even Bama bets on LSU. If they can get two wins, I’ll call it a good weekend.
Same. Lack of pitching depth plus the facts….
1. Pitching has been pure trash lately
2. It’s in SEC territory where the ball flies
I don’t see the Beavs outslugging LSU.
They also want redemption for those 2 beat downs they suffered in Corvallis in 2018.
Speaking of redemption, didja know Tulane has won all three times they’ve played the Beavs?
I only remember the loss to open the 2005 CWS. Back when Tulane was considered a national power.
They’ve fallen on hard times since
We’ll outslug them.
They’ll just call it foul.
5pm Pacific, ESPN+
Just wow. Arizona sneaks in with a 12-18 conference record after finishing 8th.
ASU and USC? Left out. So much for the regular season really meaning anything…..
Explain to me how the 4th and 5th place teams get left out but the 8th place team is in?
Ducks are headed to Nashville (yikes)
Stanford is hosting Texas A&M, Fullerton and San Jose St
UW is headed to Stillwater
Arizona is a 3 seed headed to Fayetteville
I predict the PAC-12 gets no one into the super regionals. And that’s how they’ll justify it.
The whole selection process is a joke. Beavs ranked 10th, well above other teams hosting yet get to play #5 LSU. so basically where you are ranked doesn’t matter, if you are in the sec you get preference.
Tulane is 19-40 and they get in, what a joke.
Tulane won their conference tournament. Automatic qualifier
still a joke
If the WWF was in charge of seeding it would be less obvious. Justification is already fixed by the statements that proclaim SEC has won 4 of last 5 national championships. Sure when you consistently stack the deck in favor of one conference those things tend to happen. Make every SEC team
Travel cross country to 8 mountain region site for 5 years in a row and see how the SEC does then.
To have only 3 regional sites (includes Arkansas) west of the Mississippi is egregious and a travesty. To grant the SEC 7-8 regional sites and home field advantage on a yearly basis is borderline cheating and fixing the odds in their favor purposely.
Apparently no on plays baseball out west. I’ll root for Stanford to run the table on the SEC if the Beavs can’t get out of LSU.
If the PAC12 had any leadership they might float the questions about possible bribes going from SEC/ESPN to the tourney committee for site host and matchups.
Too bad we are once again stuck with loser leadership in the PAC12. The conference obviously gets hosed in these situations but never a peep from conferences leadership.
I dunno. Fine line, especially w media deal in limbo. Klai . . needs a stronger position b4 publicly questioning the conference disparities. I assume the member schools wd need 2 permit him to do that and maybe some of them don’t care.
Should hopefully be getting a commitment from a WR today. Josh saldate announces at 2.
Correction Logan not josh.
You were correct. Saldate commits to Beavs
Beat out Cal, OK State and UW. Nice.
I hate Lynn Snyder.
10.8 100m, and he jumped 25.5 feet at the CIF state championship… as a junior.
He’s got some wheels, and it shows.
*23.5
Also seems to have pretty good concentration and make catches when there’s close coverage.
Should be a second one coming at some point.
That’s what she said…
2nd commitment likely will be coming from a player who is currently on visit.
https://247sports.com/player/marshel-sanders-46116054/
Offers from ASU, UW and Prime Time Academy. Would be another good win for us.
Prime Time Academy is hilarious. Nicely done.
PTA it is.
Another WR…I wonder how much Chiles is a factor in these WR decisions
Not sure why this comment did this, but I went and looked at his senior tape again, because it bugs me that he looks like some other high school player I couldn’t remember.
Two plays in, and it clicked. He looks like Vince Young did at Madison.
He does look like him. Better throwing motion, though. Hopefully smarter, too.
Young was a decent student.
Given the stories out of Baytown, though, I’d be surprised if Ell Roberson III even showed up for underwater basket weaving at K State.
Who is the ABer that lives in Maui?
I remember you recommended a restauarant on the West side but cant remember which one
Not me, but Monkey Pod is probably the best restaurant I’ve ever been too
That’s a sister restaurant of Merriman’s.
Merriman’s.
Trent Caraway, a Beavers baseball commit for next year, is projected to be a late 1st round competitive pick in the MLB draft. Hopefully he’s like Turley and bets on himself to go higher in the first round after 3 years in college.
Prospects Live has him at #86. Certainly looks like he has a chance at late 1st round, but not a guarantee. They have quite a few SS/infielders ranked ahead of him.
Looking at next year’s class, OSU commits ranked #2 and #3 are pitchers, which is quite a bit different from previous years. Both will likely be drafted, but not high.
Looking further back, very few of the top pitcher commits ever actually made it onto the field as Beavs (from an already short list of which high ranked guys were pitchers). I guess that explains the current situation.
I found this, the other day, and I was surprised at how calm and sure the President of San Diego State is, when she should be the most panicked of anyone, according to everyone. It’s so calm, I want to read more into it than I should.
But it reminds me that any other MW school going to any other conference is under the same pressure.
snippet:
Is de la Torre worried the Pac-12 might by [sic] a Pac-4 by the time they get there?
“No, I’m not at all,” she said. “I don’t have even an ounce of doubt about that. And that’s because I truly believe you have a conference that really believes in having a West Coast presence, a presence that really is the West. Just like there were doubters about our basketball team, I think the doubters of the Pac-12 will be plausibly surprised in the future as well.
“There are a lot of issues, if you look at media rights and the media environment, in terms of a lot of transition, a lot more economic upheaval, and that makes it that more difficult to finalize a new contract. But I’m patient, and I know we’re going to get there.”
How important are athletics to SDSU? If they’re like most schools, they’re probably a money-loser on the whole.
I think I read somewhere they ran a deficit of $1.75m, in 2021-22. That should change for the better, after the hoops run, for at least the period they remain in the MW.
But profit isn’t what they should be seeking, as non-profits. And even then, 2020 not having March Madness is just now starting to hit a lot of schools. Even schools without football probably went negative, without hoops.
She’s a uni professor at a time when they’re tightening belts. She very much has to be concerned about P&L of athletics if they aren’t a major application driver for the school. That’s why I asked.
That is interesting to hear her assurances but she would be outside of normal channels of communication within the conference at this point. She either has sources inside the conference, or is attempting to support the PAC12 from the outside with a motive to join and not make any enemies during its most precarious window of existence.
SDSU is looking at a huge payday if they are brought into any form of PAC12 conference, not just a post-media deal PAC12. SDSU athletic budgets would go from $4-$6mil/yr to at least $20mil/yr and hopefully much more than that.
SDSU has an inherit advantage of being one of few true west coast schools left on the w board to backfill USC/UCLA spots. So of course she speaks confidently about the PAC12 continuity, trying not to kill the golden goose that will eventually fill their piggy bank.
OT:
I’m watching Clemson vs Wale Forest from last year to see DJU in real action.
A few observations:
Clemson offense is horrible, OLine play was terrible and Shipley is way overrated
Concerns about DJU:
Not much touch on passes
Looks very vulnerable and uncomfortable running even though he is big
Throws into double coverage a bit
I wonder if Clemson offense gave him a rpo with one route to throw because he seems to just wind up and throw to a spot sometimes after the run fake.
Can he absorb the full playbook and progressions in the routes for the correct pass?
Positives for DJU:
He has a strong arm but not much touch
He is going to be much better off not running zone read rpo plays constantly
He looks elite when he has time to throw
He does throw the ball out of bounds on scrambles under pressure
He is big and has a commanding presence
Beautiful deep throws but not enough air under them for receivers
He threw and incredible sideline out from the far hash, about a 20 yd gain on a 40 yard throw.
Beavs should try to find another person to use as the Colletto package and not force that on DJU.
He will be a better qb with Martinez at RB than Shipley.
I expect OSU to feature the run and capitalize on play action and roll out to TE as the best east throws and be very successful doing it.
I agree that DJ should only run when the field just opens up for easy yards. Designed runs/short yardage should go to a RB. I’ll be surprised if there’s another player that can take the Coletto role.
They should just let him sneak in short yardage like Hurts.
The neat thing about her job versus your and my jobs is that she has to be objective, always–presenting only the truth as she knows it.
I see Dodd rehashed the CU narrative, even after the CU peeps said whatever.
Yawns abound.
Interesting article from Kansas St being snubbed by NCAA in baseball.
Sounds like Kentucky finished 8 th in conference but had #2 rpi so they get to host..!!?! In addition, Lexington has a bunch of country music concerts happening this week and no hotel’s available so all teams and fans are being sent through campus housing for places to stay in dorms around and on campus. No joke!
Auburn AD is apparently the lead guy on the seeding committee and surprise surprise, Auburn gets some breaks in their regional and Florida gets 3 tough matchups in theirs.
Sketchy WWF kind of stuff but why’s some is done and cannot be undone. Besides the SEC is best anyway…blah blah
Arizona got in somehow but it was at the expense of a fellow pac12 team
https://gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/baseball/osu-baseball-beavers-will-be-shorthanded-at-baton-rouge-regional/article_e32db6d4-ff3d-11ed-af33-2f54f2b39c0a.html?utm_source=gazettetimes.com&utm_campaign=%2Fnewsletter-templates%2Fnews-alert&utm_medium=PostUp&lctg=1497670&tn_email_eh1=0e6d694975ad220478d1e240f6c0c5f6727e9616
Beav blitz also saying not to expect Kmarz and Hunter. Obviously huge losses there but I wouldn’t have expected Hunter to have much of a workload even if he were available. You don’t miss 2+ months and jump right in to a full workload,. Kmatz the biggest issue. Starting pitching was bad with him in the lineup so it only gets worse. I hope I’m wrong but I can easily see them giving up 10+ runs in the regional and being sent home. LSU will likely save their ace and not pitch him game 1. Would be an interesting test to see how far this offense has really come. They’ve always feasted on bad pitching but have definitely struggled against quality arms. If they face lsu game 2 they’ll be going against the best pitcher in college ball. My, my how the turntables when the pitching is what’s holding this squad back.
Expecting to make it out of this regional would be unreasonable, but it’s baseball and anything can happen.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on with the Pac-12 and the media rights deal? It seems like everyone is waiting for someone else to make a move. Canzano says “nothing to worry about” – but the fact there have been months since something “will happen soon” makes me wonder.
“Happening soon” has always been a relative term. The only real deadlines of any consequence are for realignment purposes, so you can expect in the next month for it all to be wrapped up.
And then we’ll start hearing weekly reports that Colorado is planning to move to the Big 12 in 2028, and that the B1G has vetted Valdosta State and Washington for expansion in 2031.
It reminds me of those Law and Order episodes where they would have one “deal” and three suspects, hoping one would turn on the others, hoping someone jumps instead of staying quiet.
prisoner’s dilemma
Small aside, I took a quick look at what football offers for 2024 the team has made. It’s only one point in time and early still, but one aspect that seems different compared to recent seasons, is that the team appears to be generating interest among talented prospects.
Before, the team tended to offer 1-2 highly rated players at each position and almost never had a chance in getting them; these were offers made to players who accumulated 20-30+ offers etc. Then relied on JC players, a couple transfers, & players who may have needed more development, but fit particular archetypes each position coach wanted (e.g. DB & OL came immediately to mind, but there were others)
This go around, they appear to be much more aggressive in making more offers to players who are well regarded, a lot of them are top 50-60’s by position they play.
They’re not only offering better talent, they’ve been making the top 4, 5 or 8 of a handful of these 4* players. Even the 3* guys they’ve gotten so far have had some good schools offering. In prior years the 3* guys they got mostly had mountain west programs offering but now it’s largely all power 5 schools. Another 9 or 10+ win season, coaching staff remains largely intact, it would seem likely to perhaps start seeing some of those types of recruits actually committing. Definitely fun to see.
A good example. When have we ever made an OV list that includes USC, Utah, and FSU?
https://twitter.com/manasse_itete/status/1663992463751782404?t=gldQn7rzdzmfcVRl_XrdfQ&s=19
Valid.
I mean… who wouldn’t want to play for Niner?
It’s like he has all the best traits from all the coaches he’s played for and coached under.
There’s a ton of football in that head.

non-con tv schedules out
not too bad
CW on Fox, Utes and SDSU on FS1, San Jose on CBS, only Davis on PAC12……not too bad, indeed.
First game on CBS (not cbssports) is kind of a big deal. Over the air broadcast TV! No streaming needed
Beavs will be the only football game on at the time. Albeit a holiday weekend.
Are we sure that’s true? CBSS is the MWC partner. CBS doesn’t do MWC or P12.
CBS as reported on the team twitter and OSU “Athletic Communications”.
I had to double and triple check but all announcements say CBS. But we are all holding our breath as it seems like it would make more sense on CBSS.
Perk of being ranked, I guess. It’s a whole new world for us Beaver fans.
RTFB!
?
It’s not a 9 am game on CBS, so I have hope.
But Brennan has a good team, and his QB xfer from Hawai’i will be a year more experienced in that system.
It’ll be interesting to see how their first couple games play out.
Compensarion Per olive…
San Jose State (Sunday, Sept. 3, San Jose)
The original contract, signed in 2012, was revised twice, once because of the pandemic. It finally comes to completion in September when the Beavers play at San Jose State. The first game of the contract was fulfilled in 2015, when OSU beat San Jose State 35-21 at Reser Stadium.
Oregon State earns $425,000 for its appearance at San Jose State, the same amount paid to the Spartans when they played in Corvallis. There were no stipulated damages if one of the teams pulls out of the contract.
Oregon State receives 400 complimentary tickets for the Sept. 3 game, and up to 200 to sell on consignment.
UC Davis (Saturday, Sept. 9, Corvallis)
This contract, signed in October 2018, calls for one game only. Oregon State will pay UC Davis $635,000 for its appearance in Corvallis. For
comparison to other recent one-game nonconference deals, OSU paid Montana State $675,000 in 2022, Idaho $675,000 in 2021 and Cal Poly $600,000 in 2019.
Oregon State provides UC Davis with 300 complimentary tickets, and up to 300 to sell on consignment. There is a $1 million payment due should one of schools default on the contract.
San Diego State (Saturday, Sept. 16, Corvallis)
This is the first game of a two-game contract signed in July 2017. The second game is Sept. 19, 2026, in San Diego.
OSU and San Diego State agreed to no payment to the visiting schools. There is a $1 million damage clause should one of the schools default.
At least we’re traveling to places where there’s immense high school talent.
Kickoff times for first few games announced…
“The Beavers will open the 2023 season at San Jose State on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 12:30 p.m. in a game televised nationally on CBS.
The home opener against UC Davis in the newly-renovated Reser Stadium will start at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 in a contest broadcast on Pac-12 Network and available on Pac-12 Now.
The following week Oregon State will host San Diego State at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 in a game televised nationally on FS1.
The Beavers will face Utah at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at Reser Stadium in another nationally-televised game on FS1.”
Any one seen any more information on the Aussie gal coming for women’s BB?
Not sure I’ve even heard that much before.
Are you talking about the gal from Utah?
Rees, a stretch 4 from Australia, via Utah.
Depth, but not the big needed for any serious run.
She should open the floor for Beers, if utilized properly, but a true big would do more.
Thanks, Jack…

One person’s opinion. Maybe not even their opinion, just what they were told to write to generate buzz.
Nike vs TT…huh?
I got Tech by 10.
I wouldn’t sell UO short.
I think they’ll look disorganized and looking for an identity sometime in the middle of the season. But I think they’ll look operative on both ends, which should win them most of those games.
UO should win at least 8 games, but that TT program has all of a sudden become pretty good. They handled Ole Miss in the bowl game.
Also Lubbock is a miserable place to play a first game.
Tyler Slough motivated for revenge? Sounds like he has progressed nicely at TT.
Deion doesn’t need any of the real estate in your head, never mind the free space.
Beavs are going to need lots of breaks to come close to advancing out of regionals.
Have to wonder if LSU holds back their #1 for game two with Tulane being the worst team in the entire field. Would need that to backfire.
Beavs will have to slug their way to wins. Don’t expect any heroics from the pitching staff.
Last key – the stars of the team will need to be stars. No off weekend allowed
I’m thinking we need Bazzana to be Bazzana, and for some Mickey Hatcher to step up in each game… and for maybe the pitchers to trust their defense, instead of this pick and choose shit. At least pick and choose on the bottom of the zone. Make it look good.
Here is how it will go, in case some aren’t yet aware of the acceptable pattern:
Sellers starts game 1, throws about 100 pitches in 4 innings, strikes out about 9 but has one bad inning and leaves the game with Beavs down something like 6-4.
This allows Dorman to use the bullpen too soon, burn a lot of arms on day 1 and have a razor thin margin for game 2 against LSU. Ferrer likely goes against LSU, gets rocked in the 1st but recovers for about 3 solid innings which allows Dorman to burn through the rest of the arms in the bullpen for game 2.
If they are lucky enough to actually win the first 2 games, it may not really matter because they will only have Lawson and Boisvert left to throw for the last game or 2 if needed.
Bad starting pitching will ultimately get them, I doubt they can score 15 runs a game to win the regional, because that will likely be what is needed given the pattern of the starting rotation and subsequent pressure it puts on the bullpen.
meh…
I’m going for the bats will come alive, and we’ll get our hopes up.

Don’t know who this guy is, but cool press for Chiles
His ceiling really is unknown.
I don’t doubt he’ll be pushing for playing time quickly, but I don’t know if he’s done growing.
Shades of David Lucas, with this kid.
New thread up for Regional
