I’m sticking with the pick from the prior thread, and hoping no matter the outcome, the refs don’t play a part in this game either way.
Logic pick: Huskies 35-28
Heart pick: Beavs somehow pull out a nail biter 33-30
I’m sticking with the pick from the prior thread, and hoping no matter the outcome, the refs don’t play a part in this game either way.
Logic pick: Huskies 35-28
Heart pick: Beavs somehow pull out a nail biter 33-30
run the dam ball
Need a big emphasis on ball security with the ball weather. Can’t fumble or throw picks and win this game. They have to be able to run the ball even when they’re expecting it.
North Alabama up 13-0 on fsu.
Jordan Travis just lost his ankle or knee too
UW paying attention to that.
You know, you would the networks and the Pac-12 deep down inside wants the Beavs to win this game. It would make next weeks games must watch TV and higher ratings and viewership.
Sounds like Levengood is back today.
Also, Huskies have more WRs available than they had all season. Though who knows if that is good or bad for them trying to break someone new into the rotation
Penix is not great when pressured in the pocket. Gotta get after him and pound the rock on offense. 27-21 Beavs as long as Smith doesn’t get the itch to roll the dice too much.
Gotta get pressure up the gut and in his face. Would try to slide Golden to be more of a 3-technique than a 5-technique to utilize that 6’5” frame with hands up if he can’t get into the pocket.
I think they should line chatfield some in passing downs.
Since this game is on an ESPN/ABC station, of course we start out on ESPN3 and then will eventually swap over to ESPNU before finally seeing ABC
It’s been on abc for me.
Weird, Roku ESPN app still says ESPN3.
Which means at some point I’ll probably lose my feed in the middle of a drive
Ball control and security! Beavs win in u-24.
They keep talking about penix hands. I wonder how big DJU are. I would think they’d be around the same size.
Wonder how much it affects our smaller receivers catching the ball?
Key to the game, wrap up penix
Gotta jam the receivers at the line if scrimmage.
At least in the red zone.
Way too many yac so far.
Few missed tackles were key……
That and Penix is just that good.
And our secondary isn’t…smaller and less athletic. Not a good matchup
Too easy. Hate those cocky Husky receivers. Need to shut them up
Can’t give their receivers a 7 to 10 yard gap off the line of scrimmage. Need to get in their face along with some blitzes.
Also need to get home on the pass rush. Tough when he gets it out quick though. Their offense is similar to Tua and the Dolphins
Beavs have no chance in this game. Lol.
UW defense is mediocre……
Need to wrap up when they get those TFL opportunities.
A few slipped tackles make a difference for UW down and distance on that drive. Beavs need to bring them down right away.
It may be just as difficult for UW to bring down Martinez too. Hoping Lindgren doesn’t come out slinging it for a predictably brutal 3 passes and punt.
Let’s go Beavs. Time to bounce back and even it up.
We need to at least match scores in first half.
Washington’s passing game is legit elite. No shot. Could get ugly if we can’t run and shorten the game. I hope this comment doesn’t age well.
UW defense isn’t scary. This game will be close
Agree. Their defense isn’t scary. Beavs should be able to move the ball consistently.
My guy Munyagi with a nice block.
And,love the fly with Gould.
Rain did not dissapoint. Glad i’m not sitting out in it
holy shit
Hell ya! Clicking
Go for 2………..LOL
Who will make more mistakes? Think that will be the difference
Can’t allow another big return here. Make them drive the whole field.
Hoping we can get a turnover and could be the difference in the game. Make them drive and no big plays.
Thought that was odd. Sappington has been automatic with kicking off to the end zone all year. Why change it up?
Nice answer!
That was nice. I’m doubtful smith can stay patient and smart, but maybe the rain will force them to run more.
Only 1 3rd down in that whole drive. Efficiency, nice.
Nice D there!
Bide now get a stop and get off the field!
Big return here for Gould! Hand onto the ball!
Wow 3 great DB plays in a row. Nice.
Yeah all perfect timing and technique. That was nice.
This is where the injuries early and the WSU debacle pay dividend’s because there is depth and experience in the db group. McCoy with a nice play, Robinson and Cooper all in great position to breakup the catch.
Now the Dline needs to get to Penix a few times and he will be off even more.
Good defensive possession there
Shit this rain is getting heavy and messing with Washington! Really nice D that drive, too.
That’s how you shut up cocky receivers. Make them feel it, even if they dont catch it.
Next series they’ll be thinking about bracing for those hits and lose some concentration
Need another long sustained td drive here!
7 minutes for 7 would be just right
Great spin move by Martines. Quizz like
Insane madden move by Martinez.
Should be an emphasis on downhill runs. They should be able to break a lot of tackles in this. Weather.
There is the call early to change momentum
Looked legit on replay
Bs call! Weird
And the refs show up early
Need to catch that!
So frustrating
Pretty weak holding call.
Fix is in.
Those are the hidden calls in a game that are forgotten later but can be called at anytime to influence the flow
Wow, such a soft hold call. But he did snag some jersey.
You’ve gotta really be looking hard to make that call
That holding call could be called 50% of the time. No bearing on the outcome of the play.
Huge momentum swing on the penalty to a bad snap.
All of this because a bs penalty call.
I tried to warn people.
Now Huskies get the bal back on a safety too
Shift in momentum,fuck.
omg
How aboit an offensive PI?
No PI on McCoy and then he misses a sure int
Da gonna fix dis shit
So UW oline can tackle McCartan?
Jesus catch the ball! Have to make those plays in big games..
Gotta take advantage of opportunities. Missed that int.
Penix was getting frustrated before that run, shame he got the first. Another missed tackle
First drive killing, sus penalty.
Penix got loose because of hold. Of course nobody see that. So easy to screw a team and just make it feel like part of the game
This is how every big game goes. They just don’t seem to be able to take that next step.
Hope I’m wrong.
Clear penalties uncalled for against Washington so far.
Tried to warn people.
That hold on Levengood is a perfect example of a borderline call that is hidden early in a game but changes momentum dramatically and yet is forgotten later.
Very next series Odinze with offensive PI and UW oline takes down Chatfield or McCarton an outside rush. Neither called but UW stays at 3&10 rather than 2nd & 20/25
Beavs must make the plays in spite of refs but it is frustrating to see it. I had hoped the stage was too big for them to be obvious.
Go Beavs
Schedule it late and don’t bring game day so nobody is watching…then proceed to fix.
Dropped catch, snapped over the head of the punt for a safety, dropped interception. All in a span of like 4 plays. Team is beating themselves right now. Defense is playing decent overall. Just need to catch the damn football
Plenty of time. Continue to dominate in the run game
Fix still in?
Looks like it’s hard the rifle passes tonight.
Long snaps will be an issue all game
I hope the Beavs are seeing this and will continue running the ball!
Lindgren
Nice D Beavs
Chiles now?
Hopefully both DJ and Chiles got some practice throwing a wet ball this week. Coaches should know who excels more in that environment
No fix because UW has more penalties right?
Beavs were gaining momentum and Huskies were beginning to doubt when the key flag was thrown.
Beavs will not quit and Huskies will begin seeking pi calls to bail them out as more things go wrong on them. Beavs oline must settle in and busy the Huskies will and grind them on the next few drives.
Chiles incoming for this possession
Not the number of flags, but KEY flags huh? OK, as long as I understand.
Another ignored hold on the Husky line when that snap bounced on the ground. Had a bunch of jersey and no call. Much more obvious than the Levengood call.
Would have pushed that punt back another 10 yards.
Hope we see a Chiles run on the edge, he’s got the speed to turn it up the field on these corners.
2 straight passes.
Lindgren is insane to ask Chiles to drop back 4 straight times.
Run the ball? No? Ok.
Exactly. Self inflicted wounds are the story so far.
Needed Chiles running plays this series
That was my immediate thought “good more threat for run game:. Nope
That penalty and play calling killed Chiles drive.
Chiles not a good move in this game. Smith just can’t help himself.
Hopefully Chiles proves me wrong, but this game is just too important to be experimenting with getting the young guy reps.
Cant risk wasting opportunities. The false start want his fault, but blown opportunity there
Exactly.
Clear Block in the back on that punt.
That chiles experiment is stupid in a game like this. Just gave up a possession.
First call no call in favor of UW
Fuck yeah!
Taking out your starter for every third series of the game makes absolutely no sense, especially now. No point in playing Chiles there without having him run the ball either. Baffling play calling there
Awesome play by oladapo!
Poetic justice to these refs.
Dammit. Ball is slick haha
I was afraid of that with Gould and bolden trying to get extra yards.
Never can get a break
Man U have to be conscious of ball security with the conditions.
Chiles experiment cost us a set of downs in a game you can’t afford to give downs away.
Yeah it’s basically just an unforced turnover.
Smith already costing us!
Get ready for a phantom PI.
Called it.
That was a pretty obvious PI lol. Refs are gonna call that every single time. If he turns his head around, they don’t call it
Easy prediction
Beavs are playing with their hands behind their back against the Huskies and the ref crew.
Hopefully everyone can tell that was a clear PI lol
Ah yes, the baiting for PIs by running a poor route amd pulling up late
I knew PI was coming. The fixes all have a pattern.
Pretty easy to call that PI since Beav never turned to locate the ball, poor technique on that one.
Oh good lord……..,,
D-Line isn’t getting home
Offense needs to come out and play in it down their throats!
Will smith go two on a TD?
He shouldn’t but probably will.
God awful. And now we’ll just continue to throw the ball. I feel Ant is underwhelming. He’s fast but has a lot of drops and then this huge fumble. Sucks we can’t figure out another reliable receiver outside of Sibo
I’d almost consider a late hit on Penix to even the odds and knock him out of the game when the refs
Take over like that.
It’s wrong and against the spirit of the game but the team getting cheated is supposed to just let it happen?
JS has a lot of trust in the team
And they won’t fold but man it is frustrating to be able to call the penalty as the play develops because you know what the refs are doing to push the game to a certain result.
There’s been so much talk about Oregon State getting screwed on here all week that now we’re just looking for reasons the fix is in. I haven’t seen a terrible call that is favoring one side yet. Both teams have gotten away with holds and been called for one. PI was clear as day. Beavers are losing cause they can’t hold onto the ball.
Time for a drink…
Run the ball!
Martinez ballin
Exactly what we need!
We were going to pass there. SMH
Just hang on to the ball and feed Martinez!
Some where a group of booster are piling money on a table to try a lure Damion away from Oregon State.
Why this staff continues to try and get Gould the ball deep down the field is beyond me. He can’t play through physicality or make many contested catches. He’s basically a gadget player. That’s fine but he’s been cast in a role that doesn’t suit him.
True that
I’d rather they throw it to Bolden any time.
After the safety, we were on the losing end of the field position battle. A nice drive here can swing the momentum.
ASAP gets it down to 6 pt margin, whew.
And we go back to passing after they get a no gain play. Fuck.
Really really need a stop here
DM goes truckasaruas on the db!
Critical now to get to half time not down more than 6, ahead by 1 works even better.
Wow we kicked a FG. At least Smith can read the game well enough to see that one.
DJ could have checked down to Martinez but force the big play to Gould.
Huge by sappington. No tries in 3 games and a tough snap. Still nails it
Get a stop. Get us the ball back!
Next drive. Put in two TEs, go no huddle and run DM until his legs fall off.
DBs really stepping up!
O lined up in the neutral zone on first down
Near side receiver
Damn. Dime
Offensive pi
Penix is slippery
Yeah no fix. Clear O pi.
Odd how Cooper decided to jump towards the uprights and away from Odunze.
Contrast is that Gould and Bolden could never make that ply because they wouldn’t have the strength to subtly or obviously push away a db.
Looked like he defied the laws of physics!
Play smart with the football here. Try to score but don’t turn it over or give them the ball back with time.
Sneaky OPI no-call there. It’s so obvious on replay with Cooper falling away from the ball, though.
Odunze reminds me of Isaiah Hodgins a little. Just a better athlete than anybody matched up with him and has good hands.
Tough to defend
Hopefully DM stays in until he is in the end zone rather than getting us to the 20 and then passing 3 times…
Beavs have certainly had chances but a few key plays make a big difference so far.
3rd down defense is the game right now. They’ve held us to 1 of 4 on 3rd and they’ve converted 5 of 8. That, and we just want to throw the ball instead of running D Mart.
Feels like a dry day game, this would be a blowout for the Husky’s. The rain was helping equalize things but as usual we get pass happy and go away from the run even though they couldnt stop it.
If Penix can’t complete a decent percentage in these conditions, what makes us think DJ will play above his 55% average?
If you look at this half as a whole the Chiles experiment costs us dearly.
The talent disparity at WR is glaring. Knew it was significant but feels every larger tonight. DJ has been pretty good tonight but just doesn’t have the playmakers to take advantage through the air in this one
Really? How many drops does UW have?
Fuck. Catch it
hail mary
Run Bolden on that streak.
That pick was good for us.
Huge help.
Weird that an INT is a good thing. He drops that they actually have a shot to run at least one play from midfield
what a dumbass. knock it down haha
Story of the half for the Beavs:
1. 3 critical errors (bad snap safety, dropped easy pick, fumble)
2. D-Line isn’t getting home on the pass rush. The secondary has no chance if Penix can step in to all his throws.
Yep, agree. Missed opportunities.
Smith himself was quoted as saying something to the effect that the team that screws up the least wins big games. Beavs have screwed up more, unfortunately.
2nd Half adjustments….run the ball every play….
Done.
Don’t know if there is enough time. We keep self destructing. Need to match their scoring.
Yep they haven’t been able to stop it. Their starting mlb is out and conditions call for it. Run til they show they can stop it.
First possession had a variety of running looks including a couple of sweeps and Bolden/Gould plus Martinez.
So of course I’m a down pour Lindgren goes away from running the ball and tries to for e every pass to Gould with no luck at all.
Maybe DJ is pressing and not willing to stick with simple check downs and trust the running play call?
It will take a dedicated effort to make a comeback starting with the first possession to set the tone and wake up the crowd again.
Well, we lost the last few minutes of the half. Can’t do the same for the first and last few minutes of the next half.
RUN THE BALL
19 runs vs 15 passes in the half, still not the ratio needed.
Never would have thought that the dogs defense would out play ours. They have made adjustments, got a pass rush with some stunts and we have done nothing. Very disappointing that we have not been to pressure Penix.
I know we’re all calling for the Beavs to run it down their throat. And they do need to of course. But I think we overreact in our criticism of all of the passing plays. There still has to be balance, otherwise they’ll just stack the box. This isn’t Alabama vs Toledo.
Yeah you saw some stacking the box on their last couple drives. DJ has been late on a lot of throws allowing the DB to close gap.
People got caught up in what happened in the Civil War last year and think you can just run it every single down. You got to at some point throw it. You won’t have many games like the 2022 Civil War against quality opponents
We should blitz Penis more. He couldn’t complete anything with little rush. I’d take a shot on that and our corners getting a boost from the weather.
We’ve been sending 4 almost every time. UW has some of the best pass pro in the country and I think Bray is being smart to let them beat us in the rain with a numbers mismatch in a downpour.
Bray likes to change things up, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see more blitzing in the second half.
Agree, I’m shocked they haven’t blitzed more. I bet they felt the D-Line would get more pressure on their own. But it isn’t happening. Time for the kitchen sink in the second half. Whatever it takes to get 7 on this first drive. Then pin the ears back
Something. They are just rushing 4 guys straight up. No stunts, only 1 or 2 blitzes I saw. Need to get pressure on him.
Agree, but that requires good tackling……UW willing to use the run to defeat all out blitz
Not necessarily if the blitzers are coming in the gaps.
Offensively, they need to mix in a few more passes as they are starting to stack the box daring us to throw. Being down two possessions doesn’t help either. We’ll probably only 5 possessions in the second half unless we start throwing it more. Lots of pressure on our O to score and our D to stop them or at least hold them to 3.
Yeah, to start the 3rd quarter they really need to come up with some creative play calls to avoid 3rd and long. Just don’t have any confidence in DJ on 3rd and long.
DJ looks like crap. Gotta let Martinez win it. Smith has a problem with the game he wants to play vs the game he has to play.
This has been the way all year against good defenses.
I don’t think our passing game is the great. I think part of it is DJ has been late on a lot of throws and our wide outs are tiny. Need some big 6’3” 6’4” wide outs that can separate and go up and get the ball.
DJU is 5-13 Damien is is 12 for 86. Run the ball!
OMG DJ
Run up the gut on 1st was WAYYYY to obvious
Chiles time
Run it on first didn’t wor give up.
Welp, we’re fucked. Right to him
Blow out time. Just blitz…sell out. Who cares. The refs decided this in the first quarter.
Well well well…….
The Legend of Chiles will now be born
Big stop now build off of it.
No blood
As I said, blitz the kicker so he misses.
Why don’t they ever run a HB draw? We used to use it all the time with Lowe and it worked great. You could run it in 3 and five potentially.
I’ve wondered this.
We need to capitalize here by at least pinning them deep. Can’t afford to let them get up by 3 possessions or it’s over.
Please mix it up on offense. How about a pass on first down when everyone is expecting a run. Mix it up.
Just run it downfield!
Nice call and play there.
Martinez was so close to taking it to the house. Lucky shoestring tackle
He never seems to get past the last guy.
DJ just isn’t good I’m sorry. Nothing to lose going with Chiles
If we’d run DJ a little more we’d be getting 4-5 yards per attempt. I know it puts him at risk, but we need that extra offense.
Wow, terrible spot
There is the suspect spot short
Right after I call for a dra and works great!
Chiles
There is the whistle and then no personal foul as they continue to tackle DM 12 yards back
Cmon gray!
Nice job Gould
Needs to hold onto that ball good!
Ugh..Martines gets us down the field and we pull him, again.
Just let the guy finish a drive ffs
Better. Hang onto that ball Gould!
Way hang in there DJ!
DJ with a nice throw there to get the first down.
Martinez is dancing a lot instead of attacking the line.
That’s because their DL is penetrating fast and he’s having to change gaps.
There’s your PI on UW!!
Followed by a holding call lol
Run it and use Velling.
Man, what a useless hold, lol
DJ makes up the penalty yds
Onside kick here……
No!!!!!
Don’t say it!
Hahaha
Dogs are going to run it to burn up some clock.
Not if we stop them.
Epic drive there. Took up most of the quarter and played to our strengths.
Huge drive! Stick with the run and us dj!
Hopefully bray made some nice adjustments.
4 seconds short of a 10 minute drive. 22-17 c’mon D
It is time to get to Penix and see what Bray has to win this game.
UW defense is gassed after that drive. Hoping for a quick 3 and out to get the offense back out there.
Let’s go Beavs. Get a turnover
The was a mud fight of a drive.
I said we would have only 5 possessions in the half. I think it might only be 4 unless we can force a turnover.
As long as we can hold them a couple times that’s fine.
*The good kind of holding.
I think we’re due for a turnover!
Mizzou and Florida going back and forth. Good game!
I bet they expect us to blitz now. Watch our for screens
Beavs D is rested: UW D is nearly gassed, get the ball back!!
ooops, now see that ohiobeav beat me to it.
Glad Gameday didn’t go to Corvallis, they’re bad luck.
No flag!
Huge stop! Stfu penix.
That was strange for UW not to go for that on 4th…..Did us a favor even if the FG was made
You Penix and their O only had around 200 yards in the first half.
Wtf?!
That is criminal
Personal foul call
UW guy swings at our guys face…OSU penalty
The ref factor
Terrible call there for sure. No change of possession though
Just as much on their side!
Another fix.
Just more clock for us to run as we go beast mode
Washington is getting dirty trying to hurt DM. Refs are creating a bad situation if they make such poor calls in favor of UW and non calls for the late action IW is doing and their constant jawing.
Grind out a game ending drive right here.
Pac-12 refs love to throw flags!!!
That is a 30 yard difference in field position as penalty should have been on UW. WTF?!?!!
Looks like Angry may be right about the fix. How is that not offsetting penalties at the least?
I think almost all of us saw it coming and we’re afraid of it.
Because CFP.
Nah. Beavs are gonna pull this one out.
Boned by unnecessary roughness and then they’re allowed to maul Martinez for 5-10 seconds after the whistle.
Man I’d hate being a player whonhas to shake that shit off
NCAAF is a joke.
NFL reffing isn’t any better
Which is why I stopped watchin…hey!
Beavs have had multiple egregiously bad calls at Reset this year and yet they haven’t lost at home yet.
Refs are incompetent most of the time but seem to be complicit in a fix at other times.
Go for sure
We’re going to go for it, or course
Fuck yeah!!
ABSOLUTE FUCKING BEAST MODE!
Pretty nice 26 yd run by a QB some call crap.
DJ is very mediocre as a passer but he definitely has heart. They should have used his running game more earlier this season. I suppose they were probably trying to keep him healthy though.
DJU!
The DJ keeper is there all day. It’s every bit as effective as the Colleto package
I think you’d have to ask some MILFs if his package is as effective as the Jackhammer’s
Fuaga is ready to destroy fools and the snap can’t happen soon enough for him!
O line racking up penalties
The yardage difference on the same number of penalties is startling
But, but UW has been having way more penalty yds than their opponents. Why would this game be any different??
Unless they absolutely have to kick FG, OSU is pretty much in 4 down territory rest of the game, I think.
You have to assume UW is going to score one more time. This feels like the end of the USC game last year.
Run DJU more!
Yup
You know JS goes for 2 if we score a TD right? Prepare yourselves now
Right Call
Of course he does. Its a five point game. lol
Don’t get cute!
Timeout giving huskies Dee a breather
Another nice screen play!
Called by BIG JIM
Mix those in and draws on passing downs.
Velling almost stripped DM there
Great Bloomfield was probably on fire.
At least we have Starck waiting behind him
Yup!
He’s out
Sure would be nice to Marco Brewer for depth. Losing Bloomfield would be tough. Hope he’s ok
Coming back next year
PI in the endzone
Blown PI call!
Penix lost heisman tonight
He’ll win it if they go undefeated.
The rain cleared and this would be his moment to put the team on his back. Gotta stop them early on this drive
Why isn’t starck in?
Hurt, apparently
He’s no go, hurt during week. Per MP on radio
Keep getting stops and we got this.
What no fake field goal?
Come on defense get us a stop!
Did DJ hurt throwing hand on the play before the FG?
Looked like his thumb
More running plays and qb keepers then
Yup!
Looked like he may have tweaked his thumb. Was fidgeting with it as he headed of the field.
Again, Bray’s rested D can help put this away.
Nice tackle McCoy
McCoy great tackle, followed by a very poor throw by Penix
Great d even on their first down!
Great stand. Ground and pound. Kill the clock
Wtf is Gould doing there! Let that bounce jeez.
Gould’s been off today. Probably from getting rag dolled all game long, scrambled his brain
Drive of the year upcoming… Lindgren needs to keep the ego and the analytics out of it and creatively run the ball with plenty of DM and DJ, Bolden sweeps etc.
Do to UW what they did to Oregon last year and force them to submit to the defeat.
Ref time.
any Bloomfield updates?
Let’s use up all the clock and win it!
DJU dislocated his thumb. Wonder if he can still throw.
RUN THE BALL, man, 3 o4 plays is pass, hard to believe
Yikes, too close. Good catch Ant
#1 on UW holds every time and hasn’t been called yet
Why throw it there? At least Thor a short route
Fuck Lindgren. Hurt thumb on our QB, need to kill the clock, so we take shots that havent worked all game
Exactly
Okay got back to the run.
Cut it back!
Now THAT was a bad play call
PI on that route for Bolden
Bolden also got pushed/ran out of bounds also, so likely would have been off setting if they even did call anything.
Why throw that to him there.
Every time we run to the right, it gets blown up. Why am I the only one who can see that?
Veiling was held on the cross
DJ has terrible technique. Does he ever just drop back and throw in rhythm?
Ya when he doesn’t have a guy in his face:
Am I wrong to think that despite all the accolades for the O-line, the Beav pass protection is just average?
He’s terrible when pressured or vs a good secondary.
No way should he declare for the draft.
But, nfl scouts will be in love with his size and arm strength.
Whatever
Lingren blew that series. WTF was that play calling? Why the deep throws every down that didn’t work out and then on 3rd down you throw the short route?!! That would be been a great 2nd down call. Fucking idiot.
Thank you!
I’m kind of hoping he gets picked up for a head coaching gig somewhere this offseason.
4th and 5 and they are all running longer routes? Hell, I wouldn’t have been that upset with a QB draw and DJ carry a couple of Huskies for the first down.
Refs just held the flags for Huskies when they were in coverage. Beavs biggest issue is now the size of receivers and Gould should graduate and move on.
Way too much of Gould tonight.
Refs do decide the game just as predicted.
Tough. Those three huge errors in the first half were the difference
Didn’t run the ball enough early and often enough.
Did OSU compete any passes over 20 yards?
Yes
Maybe with YAC, but they just don’t have a real deep threat
We had the ball with a chance to drive the field and win the game but didn’t get execute. This deep throws we’re stupid.
And that was the tale of the tape
TE gave up on route too
Ya miscommunication there.
Yeah, I don’t get why everyone was running 10 to 15-yard routes when just five yards were needed. Not Lindgren’s best play call.
So frustrating to watch the Huskies with all
Of their nonsense
Lindgren stopped calling creative run plays.
He can move on too.
Now ESPN and Fox can just ignore Beavs from here on out.
Huskies should get unsportsmanlike after every reception or completion. Beavs needed to get at least a nice late hit on Penix.
Great second half by Beavs but the refs decided it in the first quarter with the holding Cal onLevemgood after a 15 yard run by DJ. Beavs couldn’t recover but they didn’t give up.
It will be fun to watch the Ducks, Huskies, Trojans and Bruins all go .500 in the Big10 next year. Good riddance traitors and poor sportsman.
Key call of the 2nd half was the bogus personal foul on an OSU player who got punched by UW.
Garbage refs and frustrating when it was right there again.
As much as I hate the Ducks, they finally found a gem of a head coach who develops talent and a defense. As long as Lanning is there, they will have elite defense. They will be top 3 in the conference winning their home games again at Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State.
I do Washington, USC and UCLA will be mediocre.
lol… no
I mean, I like Lanning, and I think he’s doing an excellent job. I would have no hesitation dreamily wanting him, should our coach get poached.
But the travel involved in playing the B1G slate will result in at least two undeserved losses per year.
They are kids playing a game, and it will show.
Honest money says one of those losses is a home game.
Did you see their schedule next year? They got Ohio State coming into Eugene so that should be easy since it’s kids playing a game and the king travel will show; they do have a likely Harbaughless Michigan on the road and do not play Penn State next year. Crazy lucky they got 8 home games next year. How does that happen.
Pac2 first order of business…. Fire pac12 refs
What a missed opportunity
Yep. Was really a completely even game. Bad snap safety was catastrophic and the one true play that decided the game. The other errors offset between the two teams for the most part.
Martines really had an incredible game today. Too bad he didnt get to help on that last drive much
Well, unfortunately, it’s 8-4 this year. No way the defense slows down the Ducks at Autzen.
No way DJU handles their D line snd CBs in processing decisions.
I bet the D does better than the O.
Game came down to UW has big time weapons who made some big plays down the field and the Beavers’ WRs and TEs just aren’t good enough. They could never create separation down the field and didn’t compete for jump balls. This was an issue the coaching staff never addressed and it ultimately is the reason a dream season couldn’t be realized.
Literally a 9 point difference between 8-3 and 11-0… luck of the beavs
8
Yeah try again
3 + 3 + 2 =
8 = a tie in one of the games
Ok, you are trolling but I will bite:
Loss to Wash. St. by 3
Loss to Arizona by 3
Loss to Washington by 2
Do the math.
Ok haha well 69 is the nicest number of them all so a truce it is
“Literally a 9 point difference between 8-3 and 11-0… luck of the beavs”
Jake’s not right with that statement, to get from 8-3 to 11-0 Beavs needed 3+3+2=8 PLUS at least 1 more point in each of 3 games, need 11 pts minimum to get to 11-0 record.
Did the Math.
We didn’t lose this game because of a fix or because of the refs. So exhausted with the constant notion that there is some conspiracy against us. Many calls could have gone against us, the blatant false start for one. The PI against us in the end zone was textbook PI.
The safety and bringing in Chiles really killed our early momentum as did the play calling. The momentum did swing our way and we had a chance to win at the end but just didn’t execute. Flat out lack of doing what we needed to do.
Yeah, even if you assume nefarious motives by the league or networks…..There would be no motivation to fix this game. UW would be in the drivers seat for the championship game even with a loss. And if the Beavs won it would make the CW that much bigger and create more hype and ratings for it.
It’s not that their against us it’s that they want a team in the playoffs so some call help them.
What about the personal foul on us when the guy was pushing him to the ground?
Losing this game wouldn’t impact UWs ability to make the playoff. If they beat the Ducks again they would be in either way.
Definitely should have been an offsetting penalty but they always call it on the player who responds and fights back which is who they called it on.
Facts. That entire last drive it seemed we were against the chains after first down
So…Vegas bowl again?
Likely finishing below UW/Oregon/Arizona. And in a 4 way tie with Utah/USC/UCLA. Partially depends on whether UW or Oregon go to the playoffs.
Beavs are about to drop wayyyyy back
Unlikely. Vegas covers UA as they are also playing a men’s hoops game on the same day as the Vegas bowl.
At this point Holiday is going to be the best case scenario.
Most likely we wind up in Hell Paso. It’s the way of the beaver
I’d rather get cornholed by Penix again than go to El Paso
Meant covets. And the UA hoops game is at a tournament in Vegas
Autocorrect strikes again. And too many napkins
Mmmm… napkins.
This season has been a series of unfortunate events (some self-inflicted).
Most of the event were coaches decisions. Including this game. Yes, refs suck but that isn’t why we lost. Coach putting in rookie Chiles in the most important game of the season. Play calling down the stretch are main reasons we lost.
Event = loses
I don’t think play-calling was why they lost. Their last 6 runs resulted in 12 yards. Outside of DJ’s long 4th down run, they ran the ball 19 times for 49 yards in the second half. Washington sold out for the run. They had to throw it a lot but just don’t have the weapons to take advantage of 1 on 1 coverage down the field. A couple of big gains were on screens. It was less a play calling blunder and more of a blunder in recruiting. If this team has a true #1 receiver, they win this game.
That’s a fair assessment
His play calling that last drive was awful and he relied on too many deep routes vs going with the short stuff to get the balls in WR hands. Fumbles aside, Ant is much better at the quick stuff and the YAC than he is the deep routes. It’s BLs job to put them in positions to make plays yet he consistently called plays that weren’t advantageous to their skillset.
“Their last 6 runs resulted in 12 yards.”
All stretches and tosses.
Why the hell are we running to the edge in that situation?
What the hell was Velling even thinking on that 4th down play? He was awful tonight. On 4th down with the game on the line, zero urgency for him on that route and just gives up on it. DJ made the right read and he just coasted on the route. Absolutely brutal.
He gave up on his route several times tonight
Beavs are just completely average throughout the entire passing game. It’s actually kind of amazing how close they came to winning all their games without having any real downfield threat.
It was an extended play and I think he thought that he should break it off to get open for DJU. I don’t think he gave up. But yes he quit running it. Idk if it would’ve been completed anyways.
I hope the coaching staff is seeing that they need to bring in a couple of bigger receivers. Hopefully valsin and noga can keep improving but they should look hard at the portal.
Secondary was lights out good.
I thought the buzz was that the Huskies defense wasn’t that good. They were pretty impressive although I don’t think Lindgren’s play calling or DJ’s decisions to keep throwing deep helped. Beavs defense played really well although a sack or two would have been nice. Huskie line can sure pass protect.
UW’s secondary has always been a bad matchup for OSU since Sark took over
The playcalls were pretty bad.
I have no idea why we were trying to beat them on the boundary at any point, when the middle was open all game long.
So, might be to early for this question but if the Fuskies go on to the national championship game does the Pac2 reap any payouts from it or all the payouts because they are gone? Just wondering in case there might be a small chance in hell I’ll be routing for them.
I think if they settle in giving the leaving school their funds this year it would be split amongst the conference. But idk.
Monetarily, the best thing we can do is lose this game and the game on Friday.
We will now have a rep in the CFP, unless the whole SoS thing was always bullshit… which we always knew it was… and ESPN picks other teams.
Coaching staff needs to tell all of the pygmy WRs not named Bolden to hit the portal. Gather up all the NIL $$ they can and buy some real WRs. None of them had a chance in hell against #1 tonight.
Irish and Velling both gave up on routes tonight.
Irish giving up on a route cost the Beavers points before the half and who knows what happens if they get a FG/TD there before the second half. One of the most concerning things isn’t just the physical limitations of the WR corps, it’s how often they just aren’t even competitive on routes. Any physical play and they just float out of position. They don’t compete for jump balls. They give up on routes. Has to be maddening for a QB.
I realize we’re probably not in a position to he asking for new coaches, etc but I’ve been ready to move on from Lingren for a good 2 years now. So many 1st down passes, followed by a predictable run on 2nd and now it’s 3rd and long. He just can’t stop himself from throwing the ball. It’s amazing how quickly we abandon the run. Why all the deep routes today? The only stuff we completed were the quick hits, which is where Sibo and Ant thrive and yet we just try long fades with 2 receiver routes.
While we’re on the subject of WR…can’t we do better than Hinson? Is Sibo the only guy that he’s brought in that’s been a true player? hodge and bradford were recruited before Hinson came on board. Have to say now that the D Line seems to be in a better spot, WR has been the most underwhelming unit through this JS tenure.
I wasn’t expecting a Beavs win this week or next week but still hurts.
I’ve been wondering about Hynson too. Haven’t brought in much talent at WR and he’s also the passing game coordinator. I wouldn’t be sad to see him replaced.
I don’t know if it’s the Xs and Os so much as the Jimmies and Joes. The WRs are just tiny and have one specific skill set that doesn’t include getting open 1v1 versus a competent DB.
I mean they are great players, but sort of interchangeable. Seems like one of them on the field at a time is enough. There were four of them before Champ Flemings left! Doesn’t help when Velling has a bad game. I guess they know they need a good receiver with size, but how many years has it been?
Well Valsin finally got playing time vs Zona and did very well. It’s just that we choose not to use them apparently. Really don’t understand the deep throws all game. The short crossing routes were working, and are what suits our guys the best. Kind of like the run game, we just abandon it. It’s almost like BL has a set number of specific play types and he has to absolutely hit that # regardless of what’s working and what’s not. Like, they must’ve thought that they could exploit the deep ball and wanted to have 10+ attempts in the game. So, regardless of the first 5 times not working, by God I have to call 5 more. That last series was awful. The 3rd down play should’ve been the 3nd down play. That way you have 2 downs to get 4 or 5 yards but instead let’s throw 2 deep balls and then give ourself 1 down to pick it up. Not to mention, there were only 2 guys on routes I think. Velling and 1 Wideout. Just an awful design and play call. Terrible series. BL has a handful of games where he calls a great game and then the other 7 games he’s an absolute shit show.
Or just run the stick or z-spot concept when Washington plays a deep zone. It worked 4 or 5 times.
There were some positive passing elements for sure, just not the deep ball and yet that’s what we stuck with.
We threw it more times than they did. That’s horrible! DJU and penix had pretty much the same numbers except dj had 2 picks and penix had 2 tds.
There were a handful of bad situational play calls but UW was able to stop the run when they sold out to stop it. Not sure what else you do at that point but try and beat that kind of coverage with the pass. Beavs just couldn’t execute enough.
Beaver’s pass blocking is not the greatest. DJ is strong enough to fend off a rusher or two, but against the better teams, I thought it was a bit of an issue.
Yeah, it’s like they never saw a stunt!???
Martinez had 26 carries(?), and came to play.
DJ is a SLOWWW processor and throws late…in warmups the Beavers were super slow with throws, receivers turning, watching the QB throw it, and waiting for it. On the other end of the field the Huskies were much crisper and quicker. Noticeable difference.
UO has a better D line than UW and outside corners can play man/press coverage. DJ will struggle and i won’t be surprised if Beavs are blown out.
Fun atmosphere tonight, tight contest. Woulda been nice if they won their last PAC home game, but the loss in the context of the season and opportunity is really typical of Beavers football unfortunately.
3 goddamned losses by 8 total points…
Same story.
Beavers even had no rain on last drive for better passing opportunities, petfect amount of clock, but couldn’t execute.
If it’s any consolation, I feel a lot better about Friday, for whatever reason.
I’ve been dreading it as a letdown loss after beating the puppies. But after this debacle, I think they come out with some good play.
Nope. Blown the fuck out
Yep agree. The Ducks are better than the Dogs and will beat the Beavs by at least 20. They can score quickly and I think will light the Beavs up as they really don’t have much to play for now. A mid tier bowl? Meh!
I don’t see it.
I mean, sure, it can happen. But we will lose by 3, if we lose.
You know our number.
Let the Chiles era begin…..
Jermod McCoy will be special. I feel like hes the best freshman DB in the JS era and we had a bunch that ended up really good.
Agree. He’s going to be good. To bad he didn’t catch that interception.
Blue called him out in fall camp, said he was going to be good.
D certainly did their part tonight. Held them about 30 points under their scoring average i think.
*20 points
Well, on the positive side of things, men’s basketball only lost by 21 today vs Nebraska. Went 6/22 from beyond the arc. Shot 35% from the floor. Got out rebounded 41 to 29. If it weren’t for making 19 free throws, it might’ve been an ugly game. Can’t believe we’re going to have to go through 2 seasons of this before we can move on. Maybe halfway thru next year Barnes will pull the plug and we can have a fan be the coach for a game. Raffle the games for NIL money. Have some fun with it.
DJ is a bit maddening. A great, 20-ish yard run on 4th 1 for example, taking on tacklers, but slow processor in passing game…I kinda hope he moves on and Chiles is #1.
That said, I didn’t like Chiles getting that series in that field position, particularly w/out running him. Just seemed Arbitrary, not strategic. Should have used him on a short field or had teal run option for him.
Ya there is no strategy just put him in on the third drive of every game despite the circumstances.
Call a screen?
Hello?
I’ve sounded like a broken record here on angrybeavs about the whole 3rd drive throw in Chiles non-strategies. Stupid. But for the record I think Chiles will grow into one of the best QB’s in OSU history.
I do believe that third possession possibly lost the game tonight.
I don’t like the predictable strategy of the third series of each game, but Chiles didn’t have the brutal false start and he wasn’t the one who didn’t pick up the UW stunt that led to the sack. The first play was a perfect five-yard dart to start moving away from their own goalposts and then the shit show ensued.
Odd that they didn’t go 5 wide and run DJ on the last drive.
Damien was lights out and Herbstriet said he was like an NFL running back playing in that game. Which must be code for other programs to try to poach him.
Lindgren can pick his bags and go coach at Northern Colorado.
Priority in recruiting must be big/physical wide receivers.
Bray is worth his salary.
Special teams has cost us 2 games
This year. Cookus can pack his bags too.
Ya if I was Barnes I’d be talking to smith about lindgren, ahynson, and cookus and possibly replacing them. Lindgren is tricky because they’re having a statistically record year and he hasn’t had a qb for most of his tenure. But he’s also qb coach and hasn’t brought in anyone outside of Chiles. DJU just fell into his lap. Maybe smith can take over play calling.
Sometimes you gotta see beyond the #’s. The constant abandonment of the run. Plays that aren’t utilizing the strengths of your players. Being predictable. The 1st down throw followed by the 2nd down run. I feel we get in these 3rd and long positions too much. Also some of these plays he’s only having 2 guys in a route. That 4th down call had Velling and 1 other guy and they had 4 defenders for 2 route runners. Yeah the line got blown up in the middle but even with protection those guys weren’t getting open outnumbered like that. He also ran several shotgun plays when we’re on our own 4 yd line. Like bro, the ball is slick as shit, snaps haven’t been super reliable and you think shotgun is best inside the 5? Props on nabbing Chiles though for sure. The chance Nolan experiment, not so much.
Ya I agree about past the numbers. Lindgren has some bad timing with his calls. I’m always frustrated with our inability to get bolden, Gould Irish in space with room to work. If the pass and timing is good the wr screens have worked well. This is the first I think I’ve seen them call a HB draw all year and it worked great. Short drag routes would be great if they could hit our quick receivers in stride. The tosses to the short side of the field. Like wtf
I was pulling my hair out on those tosses.
Why not just take a knee, and not risk the INT?
The shotguns!
Wtf, man?
New Reser is pretty nice. The stadium (sitting on new side) seems pretty tight and closed in.
Sound system as noted is terible but will be corrected.
Light system is nice, like the irange hliw after scores…
New video board is BRIGHT and SHARP. It is odd though that it often shows replays in a poor, cropped compositions that doesn’t show the play properly.
Concessions are okay+, service pretty good.
It was a fun run.
RIP College football
I really wanted this win tonight but I am proud of how these kids came out and competed. Washington has a chance to make it to the national championship and we lost by 2 points.
That’s always the case. Lose by 2 or 3 . Can never finish these big ones.
The gap will only get worse with NIL, falling out of the p5, and the transfer portal. Would not be surprised if Martinez and/or Chiles take an NIL deal somewhere else for next year. Looks like my pre-season prediction that all of you talked down on so much, is becoming ever more likely to be the reality, and that this team is destined to have, at best 8-4, 8-5, or 9-4 seasons to look forward to as our peak, with possibly the occasional 10 win year like last year. This team will never have the playmakers across the board to be able to get over the hump, and I assume the poor performances on the road will continue. Ultimately, despite all of this, the difference maker tonight was the safety. It would have at least gone to OT if they didn’t have that.
Some random thoughts on the game:
Our WRs are dangerous once they actually get the ball in their possession, but they are just terrible at getting open for receptions, and we’ve really been hurt this year by not having any decent sized WRs
Still hate that Chiles was not redshirted just to be used for one series a game, and I feel it makes it all the more likely he transfers if DJ ends up sticking around so that he can start somewhere and not waste half of his eligibility on the bench for the most part. Despite this, I haven’t minded involving him if you’re going to burn the redshirt, but doing it on the exact same drive every game is idiotic and easy to plan for, and I’ve felt that it is hurt our offensive flow on multiple occasions. Chiles being put in the game should be scenario based, not just because it happens to be the third drive.
DJ is far from perfect, but he’s probably just about the best we can get right now. It’s possible we lose the Cal, Colorado, UCLA, and possibly even the Utah game if he doesn’t make some big throws.
I get the weather was bad, but was really upset with the crowd today, and it was pretty sad to have a decent amount of seats empty in our small stadium even at the start of the game for a top 10 matchup, featured on ABC, and it being the last PAC 12 home game for us. It was a 2 score game at half, and almost the entire south end zone seating emptied out and did not fill back up again. They were low energy. At some points, the UW fans were making a good bit of noise.
In a season like this, especially given the conference circumstances and uncertainty, one has to think about taking a step back from Beaver football for a bit, and stop becoming so invested mentally. This is a program that has had 14 winning seasons in the last 52 years. It is a shame that the crown jewel accomplishment for the program is playing in a NY6 bowl 23 years ago. Being a fan of this program is just, for the most part, a song and dance of getting hopes up just to have the grandest accomplishment you can generally look forward to being an 8 win season and some meaningless bowl.
Best hope for one of Oregon or UW to make the CFP so we get automatically bumped up a bowl tier.
What gap?
And did you not go to the game?
A lot of people standing in the concourse, instead of getting dumped on.
You would know this, if you bothered to go… and maybe sit in the student section you didn’t even know was a student section at the beginning of the year.
Agreed, most of the seats were taken, but people took cover at half-time.
That makes sense. There was a shot on TV of a whole row of nice seats that were empty. At the time I thought it was not a good look.
What are you talking about, not knowing it was a student section? Only half of the South end zone is student section. The other half is in fact general admission. Regardless, people should have been in their seats and loud, but wouldn’t deal with a little rain.
If you paid attention to the way the Huskies scored, you would understand they had three TDs and went for two on one of them….so the Beavs would have still lost by one, 21-20 if the safety didn’t happen. De Boer was trying to make it to 24 after the safety. The safety certainly was the difference but wasn’t the reason why the Beavs lost.
In which case, Oregon State would have certainly gone for 2 on its last TD. Not a guarantee they would get it, of course, but even if they failed, we would go for it on 4th instead of kicking the last field goal. The ramifications of the safety go beyond the 2-point attempt by UW.
Sure.
Might be good for your break from the Beavs to last a couple of decades? Would be good for you….
I think the majority of us would have thought we would win if we were told we would hold the dogs to 22 pts. Reflecting back on the game I think the dogs line play – on both sides of the ball was better than ours. They were able to get a pass rush and we didn’t. Another killer was our inability to stop them on third down.
Our inability to throw the ball downfield hurt. Yes, the Beavs offense likes to rely in the run but you have to be able to throw it. As I mentioned before here, if you can’t throw it much and are dependent on the run, it is diificult to catch up if you are behind. Case in point, we took almost 10 minutes off the clock to score 7 and still were behind, had to stop their O.
“Reflecting back on the game I think the dogs line play – on both sides of the ball was better than ours.”
On select plays, yes. Overall, not even close.
And the select plays were delivered by coaches, from what I can tell. Why are we not playing the run, when they need to kill clock? Why are we running to their strong side, when they’re defending the run? Why are we putting ourselves in poor down and distance situations, instead of taking what they give us?
This season will be remembered for a long time.
Play calling to predictable also. Why do we insist on second and to try a long pass with a low probability of completion!?!?! I know you need to stretch the field particularly when the safeties entered the box to stop the run, but can’t you call a better time pass play with higher percentage og completing? It just seems like they throw a down away. Our diminutive receivers can’t get separation and are too small to phyiscally go up and get the ball.
Sorry for all the typos. Don’t know the kids text so fast on a phone?
Mitchell finishes 12th in XC nationals. Fetherstonhaugh must have been caught in the wash, because she finished 78.
Waking up this morning and giving thought to the game I came to the conclusion we were out coached more then out played on the field. I think you could look at the teams and say they won as they had better players but I would say they had certain players better then our but we had certain players better then theirs. They had better receivers but we had better running back and vice versa.
Washington’s coach would never choose to throw a rookie QB into this important game and a possession everyone knew was coming. Washington coaches looked for our weaknesses and went after us in those areas. They also defensively adjusted to stop our run and force us to throw. Our coaches came in with game plan which is good but it seems they never adjust to game flow which is bad.
So proud of the young men for the effort but again disappointed in a coaching staff that has so much potential.
Of course we were out coached. It has been established that JS and BL have a sheet of plays to call and refuse to deviate from balance within the offense. This creates predictable tendencies and limits their own creativity within the game plan. They lean more on pregame cerebral planning than in game adjustments on the fly.
JS needs to admit this is a flaw and bring in a savant or a veteran strategist who can help him grow in in game strategic analysis in order to improve.
Look at a lower division level for a guy who has great game sense and hire him
If it materializes that the money falls into place for the Pac-2, we all know football schedule comes first. I believe someone posted that men’s soccer basically has a non-pac 12 schedule because of few other men’s soccer teams in the conference. Will baseball and women’s basketball and soccer be able to create independent schedules throughout the country?
If it materializes that the money falls into place for the Pac-2, we all know football schedule comes first. I believe someone posted that men’s soccer basically has a non-pac 12 schedule because of few other men’s soccer teams in the conference. Will baseball and women’s basketball and soccer be able to create independent schedules throughout the country?
They’ve already said they plan to house Olympic sports in conferences
There are only six men’s soccer teams in the “P-12” with one being San Diego St. NCAA men’s soccer is all over the place, SEC doesn’t have men’s soccer. I think Kentucky plays in Conf USA. I’m more worried about baseball. Being in the Mtn West will do them no favors. Seems like the Big West or WCC would love to have the Beavs.
The Chiles thing is strange. It honestly makes me think JS made a deal with him in order to get him here. If he sticks around next year and does what we all think he’s capable of, then I suppose it’s worth it. But it makes it feel like JS values the experience for Chiles a bit more than he values winning.
I somewhat cynically think JS values trying to keep Chiles out of the portal and guaranteeing him snaps every game helped with that. Also, I don’t think the team did Chiles any favors last night. The false start and then the terrible pass protection were as much to blame as anything. His first pass was a nice dart that picked up a quick five yards.
I dont mind Chiles coming in, but it is predictable when it is every 3rd possession, and fucks any momentum that DJ was building….really really strange.
For those who mock refs influencing the game and it is simply poor execution by the Beavs, consider this:
The Beavs had 10 possessions and ran 72 plays total. In my view, the call on Levengood, and the personal foul on Munyagi were both refs influencing the course of the game in real time. Each call was a 30 yard swing but the Beavs still had the ball on offense. What these types of calls do is force a team to gain an additional 60 yards to compensate for the calls. Which translates to properly executing about 10 more plays over the course of the drives.
Box score penalties show it even for penalties and for penalty yardage, but it doesn’t tell the true story of the game outcome and how the refs stunted momentum within the game and placed roadblocks in OSU’s way, while clearing the way for UW.
The 60+ yards to make up after those calls becomes a percentage of overall plays to run and execute, in this case, perhaps 15% of the overall gameplan on recovering from 2 egregious calls. If the Beavs, in bad cocnditions, had a short field, which they didn’t all night, would they have scored on the second drive and gone up by a touchdown in a driving rain storm? I think probably. But we won’t know because the refs turned the momentum and the game by that one call early in the game which is easily forgotten and explained away afterwards.
Odunze will be a pro because he is bug and has good hands but his best quality is he can push away defensive backs with no consequences, it is such an obvious process for his catches I couldn’t root for the guy because it is almost habitual cheating/or we should just dispense with the charade and make a rule that the db can’t touch the wr but the wr can push the db. Cooper was falling away as the ball arrived on the TD in the corner because Odunze just stiff armed him to create space. “Hand fighting is ok” garbage explanation. It is either legal or not legal and should be called. Odunze never gets called for his Offensive PI which is hidden yardage for the Huskies as well.
Penix made a throw towards the TE late in the 3rd and immediately cried for a PI call. WHat he saw was a slight bump/tug by Oladapo at the turn so Penix rifled a pass in the general direction planning to get the first down off of a PI call, which didn’t come, surprisingly. UW is quite soft if they consider this the way to move down the field in a tight game. But it seemed to be baked into their mo, without hesitation. I hope they get to the playoff and get destroyed by Georgia because Georgia won’t face the same types of calls OSU just dealt with.
JS has done a great job building the program to this point. Unfortunately this was the outlier year for the PAC12 with 5 of the top qbs in the country all as upperclassmen and all within an established offensive system. DJ came in a year too late, or we likely would have been in a much better place by the time we played WSU and UA. Given the circumstances of the outside news and navigating uncertainty with next year, transfer portal, NIL and conference questions, JS has done an incredible job of maintaining focus. It feels like 8-4 at this point, but the season was so much better than 8-4.
I’d like to see Lidgren get an chance to be a head coach, rather than just force him out, but the timing is good for him to go after this season. Let CHiles begin with a new set of eyes and a new playcaller.
Cookus and the special teams has been slightly above disastrous and there haven’t been any decent returns for most of the season. The biggest contribution of special teams has been Sappington good on kickoff/extra points. Beyond Sappington, I can only think of disastrous plays in the losses that turned each game. Fake punt by WSU, failed fake fg at UA, bad snap/safety against UW. Each game special teams failed early and couldn’t be overcome. Cookus should move on after the season.
It will be good to hear the annoncement for next year’s schedule soon and see how the team responds or if guys begin to look for other opportunities. MY thought is that Beavs aren’t that far away form another special season with this roster, as long as they aren’t in a conference that had a once in 20 year collection of offenses and qbs.
Good points made here. As much as it hurts to want the home town heros like Cookus to be successful and not on the chopping block, the special teams has been below avg for his time here. We’ve never had a fg kicker with him. Sappington has been great this season but I think his range is limited to 45 yds and below. The 3rd phase of the game has long been an Achilles heel for the Beavs. Need him for the in-state recruiting but his Special Teams results haven’t been great. Sadly, being relegated, we’re not in a position to move on from coaches but perhaps the reduced budgets will force that hand and we’ll be seeing a lot of new faces in both the coaching ranks as well as the players.
Still had a chance in the end. Gould fair catching the ball at the 5 yard line might have been the dumbest thing he’s done all year. That was a 20 yard swing, and being that the Beavs drove to 50 yard line really hurts cause they might have had a shot at a game winning 45 yd FG. To me that was the epitome of how the game went all day — litttle ticky tack fuck ups, penalties, injuries, and self inflicted shit that kept the momentum from ever building.
Ya he had a rough night
Despite any officiating issues, the Beavs ended up screwing up more than the Huskies and it cost them the game.
The last drive was exactly like last years civil war but BL wasn’t convinced he should not throw the ball. Rather than continue to be creative with how to run the ball, he calls pass plays on 2nd and 3rd down, bad plays by the way, and game over. If BG was at qb again in that situation, it may have been more obvious to UW but it also would have been apparent to BL that running was the only option too.
So the game ended as we feared the season may be derailed:BL leaning too much on DJs arm and not enough on running backs/oline.
QB run on the 4th down last play would have been the ticket. As soon as I saw pass I thought it was over.
My best guess is Lindgren thought UW would flood the short routes and the deep middle would be open, which gets them in immediate FG range with time to even score a TD, but it’s an all-or-nothing strategy. Teams have lots of higher percentage plays to pick up five yards when they have to have it. Even with that being said, the Beavs didn’t beat the Husky secondary deep all night, so not sure why Lindgren thought it would work with the game on the line.
How does anyone here know what Lindgren called? How do we know that DJ didn’t audible into something different than what was called? Maybe the look was wrong for the play called and DJ audibled out of it. It’s easy to bitch about the calls in the game but no of us have a fucking clue about what plays were actually called. Just cracks me up.
Last night the running game was completely shut down in the second half. Just sticking with the run wasn’t gonna work. Passing the ball was the right call but they were lacking in personnel. It’s easy to blame the play calls but sometimes you just don’t got the dudes. They need to hop in the portal and upgrade the position. Washington has a stud #1 receiver and Oregon State doesn’t. In an even game, that is the difference.
Completely untrue. They ran the ball very well in the second a
Half so idk what you’re talking about.
OSU got cute with the outside zone and UW locked in.
Civil War is a must win. This team needs to look like a top 15 team heading into next year or I see potential for lots of guys leaving. That WSU loss is just so brutal.
It was weird how unprepared the defense was against Wazzu, but it goes to show what losing three secondary players to the NFL can do to the “non-elite” programs early in the season. One of the more impressive performances in 2022 was how they shut down Cam Ward in Corvallis.
The Washington game was much more winnable than at Washington in my mind. Sad we’ll likely go 8-4 in a season where I thought 10 wins regular season minimum. Also, sad the PAC12 happens to be stacked in the last year of its full existence. Luck O the Beavs.
Sorry, than at Autzen* not Washington.
Don’t think JS is that invested in OS. Think he is experimenting and refining his resume.
If he loses a couple of winnable games with experimental calls no big deal as OS is comfortable with losing.
Considering the Beavs are 18-6 over their last 24 games it doesn’t look like they are “comfortable” with losing. Also, I don’t think calling a fake and having your place kicker try to run 20 yards to score is “refining his resume”. JS would probably like that play off of his resume if he’s trying to impress other schools.
Just noticed, looks like you have a typo in your name “UO FAN”.
I am 75 and have been a Beaver fan since 4th grade.
What happens if JS goes 8-4 and OS goes to a minor bowl for the next 10 years? Nothing! Everyone will be happy with MR like success.
Frogs in a frying pan.
I call em as I see em.
College football is mostly just a lot of fucking around unless you’re an elite program. You take the progress where you can get it and with JS there’s been a lot of progress. Better than Andersen and the others before him.
Of those 6 losses at least 3 were 3 points or less, so they’ve become vey competitive.
Just can’t close out when needed to get to the next level.
They’re probably the 3rd best team in the PAC, and so it went…
There’s something to this, though he was doing it his first year, so I think he’s also just wired this way. He’s going to have to change moving forward. If he tried those same calls at Michigan State he’d be out as coach that night.
I don’t think he’s trying to impress for future job opportunities, I think it’s a character flaw that manifests on a football field instead of a casino.
HEY HEY HO HO LINDGREN NEEDS TO GO
Well, I don’t like our chances on the road next week. I also think this will be a game that we take a lot of gambles cause, why the hell not?
Perhaps this is the pessimistic side of me, but I think the week or two post CW game is going to be a blood bath. Reports floating out there that JS is one of 4 coaches in the 2nd round of MSU interviews. I think had we managed to win these last 2 that this success would’ve been enough to keep players/coaches and a good chunk of our recruits. Going 8-4 and getting the 4th or 5th best bowl game won’t be enough to move that dial. Thus far, the recruiting hasn’t seen a hit but it truly feels like the shoe is ready to drop. We could very realistically see a drastically different program next year from every level of our coaching staff down to our players. A CW win would help provide a security blanket to weather that storm but Dam, I’m not sure we’ll manage to keep the game close.
You’re probably right. The program has lost momentum now and there is a very real possibility of a recruiting blood bath. I’m not sure what Smith actually wants (always thought he would be loyal to the program unless a Godfather offer came his way) but even if he is looking elsewhere I’m not sure he’s going to land a big job after this season. Still feel he’s a good coach with a solid scheme. But a few baffling decisions and inability to make in game adjustments have lowered his stock IMO. Also, let’s be honest. Smith is a bit of a doofy looking guy with very little personality. The major programs would overlook that if Smith truly were one of the top few football minds but all else being equal he will get passed over for a coach with more charisma.
Definitely not the flashy guy at the helm but I think a lot of schools will overlook that in favor of what he’s done for the Beavs. Not to mention, those schools will have bigger budgets for him to get a better OC, D Line, etc. Could very likely take Coach M and Bray with him. I was surprised to hear that he would be interested in MSU to that extent but perhaps he doesn’t even want to deal with the bullshit that will be the next few years.
The “reports” speculate from a single source what MSU’s top four candidates will be. There’s been no confirmation that any of those candidates were actually interviewed.
The fumble after saving the TD and recoving the WHuskies fumble was brutal. The game plan was solid, execution good – just too many critical mistakes at bad times. Disappointed, Hoping the Beavs stay in the top 15.
Beavs drop to 15 in the Coaches poll. Not too deep a drop.
5 spots for losing to #5 by two points, lame
So for bowl game purposes……
Assuming both UO and UW go to the CFP and/or a NY6 game (see last year with Utah and USC), everyone would get to move up a game. Alamo is contractually obligated to take the PAC-12 title game loser if they are available. Vegas and Holiday bowls can pick a team lower in the standings but only a team one game back of the highest available team. Starting with the Sun bowl they are obligated to take the highest remaining team in the standings. If there are tied teams they may pick amongst the tied teams…..
This is all assuming…..OSU loses, UCLA beats Cal at home, Utah beats CU, UA beats ASU, UW beats Wazzu…..
Oregon and UW go CFP/NY6. Arizona would be 7-2 and 2 games ahead of everyone else. They go Alamo. Vegas picks next and would get to choose between 5-4 teams Utah, USC, UCLA and OSU. They won’t pick OSU since we were there last year. I have no idea who they would pick in that scenario but I would surmise Utah or USC. Holiday would then pick next among the remaining 3 tied teams. After that the Sun would pick among the 2 remaining 5-4 teams and the team not picked would go to LA.
I think in OSU’s best interest we should root for Cal to beat UCLA and CU to beat Utah to put them lower in the standings. USC is done and finishes 5-4.
Williams won’t be playing in any USC bowl game so they likely wouldn’t be anyone’s first choice. UCLA may be firing Chip and they have no qb at present either so why choose them if you’re the Holiday bowl?
Beavs beat Utah head to head and have an intact roster and have never been to the Holiday bowl so fans would travel well even after a disappointing ending to the season.
On the other hand, consider the hidden hand of ESPN trying to create tv matchups and the Beavs likely end up in the Sun Bowl on Dec 15 completely out of sight and out of mind. This is what should be expected as a Beav fan.
Dennis Erickson was an all time great to overcome this widespread matrix that OSU can never really escape. It may become a great advantage to finally have all west cost power teams playing outside of the time zone and Beavs able to navigate in a conference with their best interests considered rather than major market prima donnas dictating everything.
So it seems the Beavs prioritize recruiting the lacking positions. We’ve seen defensive lines struggle and are backed up by a couple strong recruiting years for that position. Next were the defensive backs, followed by wide receivers. With that said, seems like those positions will be the stronger positions in the future if the recruits pan out (already looks like defensive backs will be in good hands with the emergence of McCoy and Andre-Jordan).
Question is, which positions fall off. QB should be fine as long as Chiles sticks with the Beavs, OL and TE recruiting has been excellent and the continued success is paying dividends. Seems like LB and RB hasn’t been recruited hard? Is it because those positions are easier to pick up in the transfer portal?
The Beavers have had a number of RB from recent teams come to games, and who are active in the local community. Prospective player’s families notice that.
I’d argue the team has an established history of developing good running backs, even if not every player goes on to play professionally.
All that plus the running system is a draw.
Credit due to the RB staff and their recruiting connections/efforts.
Apple Cup extended thru 2028. Sounds like Boise State is the roadblock for the CW. I feel bad for the local businesses and continuing a home and home would definitely be helpful to the local economy. That being said, I would like to never play that team again unless it was a post-season game. Sometimes you’ve just got to take a stand and say, No, fuck that. You’ve been a major player in the destruction of our athletics program and we’re not crawling on our hands and knees to help make your schedule easier from a traveling standpoint. However, when we inevitably do in fact bend over to take this one, i at least hope the public statement is something to the effect of “make no mistake, we are only taking this game for financial purposes. We have no respect for UO. There is no rivalry. Fuck the Ducks”
WSU agreed to a 2 for 1.
Honestly, OSU should go their own way with them too (beyond the lawsuit). They’ve accepted their fate which makes it their fate.
Don’t accept your fate and OSU can carve something new.
2 for 1 is unacceptable.
Spoke too soon:
“Next year’s game will be played Sept. 14 at Lumen Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks. After that, the matchup will return to the home campuses, with Washington State hosting games in Pullman in 2025 and 2027 and Washington hosting games at Husky Stadium in 2026 and 2028.”
That’s more reasonable.
Okey…A 3 for 2. Still unacceptable.
Anyone but a 1 for 1 Thanksgiving weekend is a hard no from me. Even that is just a slightly softer no.
Oregon killed the rivalry, the right thing for OSU is to let it die.
Yeah it’s not acceptable for us but Wazzu’s in a bad financial situation. We have enough leverage to get a 1 for 1.
Next year will be at Lumen field. After that it will be in Pullman in 2025 and 2027. Husky stadium in 2026 and 2028.
https://www.oregonlive.com/collegefootball/2023/11/apple-cup-wsu-and-washington-agree-to-continue-series-after-pac-12-breaks-apart.html
I think most Beaver fans are done with Oregon and should write Scott Barnes or whoever and tell them this is not what the fans want.
A couple of posts above, mentioned an imminent blood bath in both recruiting and possible coaching losses. Well don’t forget the transfer portal opens up Dec.4th. Could get ugly. When the dust settles in the next few months, the roster and staff could be more suited to competition in the MWC, which let’s face it, is where we’re heading. So for the life of me, why in the future would we want to offer ourselves up to the ducks as victims in an annual body bag game? If we’re going to need the pay days in the future, let’s offer ourselves up to the true bluebloods of college football. As far as keeping a rivalry going, tell them to pound sand.
STFU
I agree with this. Part of the reason why we’re in this situation in the first place is because we willingly scheduled body bag games against Big 10 teams.
Body bag games kill programs.
Daschel posted some interesting stats. DJ was 1-11 on throws over 15+ yds. He attempted 31 passes. The fact that a 3rd of his pass attempts were deep routes in those weather conditions is wild.
They cannot deviate from the script even in the worst conditions if they think that balance is the priority. Insane stat.
Given the expertise of contributors here, brash of me to ask, but fly sweep (or similar?) worked and so did DJ’s 28 yard run. So why not more of each or both?
Or more screens and short routes which DJ completed at like an 80% clip. Literally everything except throwing deep balls .
“DJ was 1-11” … Yeah, how many of those balls were catchable by a D1 size WR? UWs DBs looked like they were up against the local high school’s JV squad.
CBS sports Harry Palm has Clemson vs Oregon State in the holiday bowl. Wouldn’t that be fun?
I’d take that.
I’m still trying to get over Harry Palm.
Yeah your right. Whiskey mispelled his name. Should be “Hairy” Palm. ?
In the “other football”, Beav soccer leads Portland 1-0 about halfway through the first half in second-round NCAA tourney action.
And did we know that Kitan’s brother (Kash Oladapo) is the goalie for the 11th-ranked Pilots? 6′ 4″ 195 lbs. Learn something new every day!
Too bad he doesn’t play football. The team could use another Oladapo and he has good size. Interesting that one played soccer and the other football.
I can relate, my 20-year-old played a year of college soccer and my 17-year-old is a high school football player.
2-0 with 15 left. Pac-12 POY Farrington with a brace (2 goals)
Beavs win 3-0! On to the Round of 16. It sounds like on the road against SMU.
3-0 good guys. Up next#6 seed SMU then the winner of #3 UNC/#14 Hofstra
7 years is looooooong! Graduate and move on already!!!!

It’s like Luton.
Isn’t there or wasn’t there an ex-Duck TD going for nine years or something like that? McCormick?
Yeah, McCormick has petitioned for a 9th(!!l) year.
https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/miami-te-cam-mccormick-petitioning-acc-for-an-unprecedented-ninth-year-of-college-football-eligibility/
That’s crazy! Longer than most nfl careers. Uncle Rico over there thinking this is the year he goes pro.
Nah, play ball while you can
