Reading a little more about RB commit Cornell Hatcher. His team played 4 of the top 10 HS teams in the country and he put up at least 100 yards and 1 TD against all of them. He had multiple 200+ yard games against top 10 teams and scored 5 TD’s in a playoff game. In that same playoff game he had 44 carries; his team basically put the whole season on his shoulders and they lost despite scoring 42 points.

    Dude’s a beast.

Someone brought it up late in the last thread but dam, the Yucks have plunked down probably $2-3 mill in QBs alone this season. That’s crazy. If they’re competitive next year in B10, I can see them bringing in another 1 and done qb. Dante Moore might be the smartest guy in the room. He could legitimately make several million and be a career 2nd string guy if he sticks with them. Lol. Wild times

  3. An Idaho guard entered the portal. Idk if we need anymore interior lineman but might be someone to watch since we picked up someone on staff there.

    • I like him too but they’re highlights. If Johnson is accurate than he’s big time because he’s about as an elusive qb you can get. Any word on him coming to visit?

          • In less games too.

Something I just realized. Gabarri Johnson was a Team FSP 7on7 guy.
And I noticed how Bradon Huffman almost immediately put in a crystal ball to OSU for Johnson, even before he was officially in the portal.
In addition to that, Huffman also almost immediately tweeted about Thomas Ford getting hired by OSU today, like a minute after Ford posted that he was leaving Idaho.

Obviously Huffman is very good at what he does, but he really seemed extra.connected with those 2 newsy items, all with connections to FSP in the last few days.

          • Ignore my comment below, said the same thing. Durant is an FSP guy and shared the news about Ford on IG. Hopefully that helps lock him in as a Beav.

FSP is one of if not the biggest 7v7 and nfl prep group in WA and the NW. They helped Treshaun prep for the draft last year. The Fords have been a staple to the 7v7 movement in the NW since it began.

Cannot be understated how huge that connection could be long term. I am hoping that we could see quite a few transfers in from Team FSP 7v7, who knows, we may even flip a couple.

        • That’s good. I wonder why he isn’t being heavily sought after like other QBs. I guess I don’t really no that but just haven’t heard much since the crystal ball prediction. Have we officially offered him even? Maybe their waiting on Murphy?

  4. Pretty sure he has FSP ties, also noticed Durant was excited about the Ford hire, an FSP guy too. Hopefully that bodes well for signing day.

  5. What was the Lillard 7v.7 we used to have a pipeline with? That worked out well for us and that’s why I like this hire and connection. Could get interest and commits from guys that would’ve never had OSU on their radar. Bray’s a genius!

    • Portland/OR 7v7 is cluttered with too many 7v7 organizations. And our market is no where near as big as WA. There is talent in OR, just the type that fills PWO and get built into D1, few D1 ready guys.

We have gotten Grant, Gould and Collins (didn’t pan out) from Lillard. Maybe a few other walk ons along the way. I think Haines and maybe Reichle.

Candidly Lillard push UO to their best and when you look at who went there compared to OSU since it’s finding, it’s not comparable. Pretty sure Baron Narrone, the 2025 instate commit out of West Linn is a Lillard guy, so hopefully we can hold on to him.

FSP is significantly larger and has a much more proven track record of producing top HS players and NFL talent.

But truth be told, 7v7 is a for profit business and loyalty is hard to come by, here’s hoping that the Ford family backs each other on this. All the 7v7’s are always looking out for their brand and will try and upgrade the school caliber. Think TMP and how quickly they cast us aside.

Kefense said Joshua Gray will not play in the bowl, so we’re down 6 starters on offense. ND is down 7 starters on offense. Both teams’ defenses are more intact. On the 2-deeps, ND will be missing about 15 guys and we’ll be missing about 10. Also the ND OC left the team yesterday.

Over under is 42.5 I’d take the under

    • Mentioned on the last thread…we got a PWO commitment from a JUCO rb who I believe is his brother. Looks like a package deal and perhaps that keeps him committed this time around. Or not. This is the type of stuff we gotta do now…take some flyers and hope it pays off.

    • Watching McCoy vs MSU it looks like he’s not a one read QB. He looks off defenders and is fine with checking down to his running back.

    • Have to say feels like Gabarri Johnson from Missouri. Basing this solely off the Crystal Ball prediction. Those folks don’t take too many guesses, so they must have information we don’t on our end.

      • We really need to add 2 QB’s to keep the pipeline full: one with a better near-term outlook that can compete right away and one that doesn’t mind developing over time.

Feels like Johnson and Guttredge is the most likely combination.

      • That’s where I land too. I am curious what the market will be for Malachi Durant. He entered the portal so late in the game, most teams were already set at QB. He’s by far my #1 portal guy to pick up if possibly, but also feels like a pipe dream given we’re the Beavs

        • He’s going to cost a lot of money. I don’t think he’s in the budget.

The mass exodus from USC is puzzling. Unless those guys are just going to get playing time, with the expectation they can transfer back to a big program in a year or two?

It’s starting to seem like the standard move for these big NIL deal kids, and I can’t think of a reason they shouldn’t do it. “Commit” out of high school for big bag. Transfer after freshman year for a big bag. Transfer after sophomore year for a big bag. Then maybe think about getting serious about playing football for a year and go to the NFL.

Create the wild West, expect the wild West.

          • Haven’t really watched film on any of these guys but I kinda think Johnson would be my preference based on being a NW guy, has the team Ford connection. Perhaps that would help play in our favor for a longer stint than a 1 year loaner situation.

          • “The mass exodus from USC is puzzling.”

Perhaps the examples set by Riley and Williams have been well received by the team.

Also, WITH Williams they won 7(?) games….without him? they’re going to have bad road schedules and likely be a middling to lower-third B10 team…does Riley have a DC? Will Riley stick around?

  7. Does anybody else have a thought in the back of their mind that Jordan Anderson us really still committed to oregon and this is just some fucked up troll job by Dan Lanning, similar to that Williams kid who Cristobal flipped after he anniunced he was ransferring to OSU?

  8. Do all these kids think they are worth zillions of dollars? Do they all believe, if they find just the right niche, they’ll be in the NFL? Have they ever heard “only 1% of college athletes go pro?” Do they have any academic interests? Do all their families say, “hell yes kiddo, go get those big bucks for us.” Having vented all that, I wish Ben Gulbrandson the best of absolutely everything in the upcoming bowl game.

    • Dr Ben might go on to make more than just about all these guys. I’m sure the less than 1% argument is driving a lot of this. Make your money while you can.

      • 10

Exactly right. They KNOW they might not get to the NFL and they might get injured early even if they do. Their main priority is making some bank as quick as possible while they have value.

Paying players is great for the kids, not regulating it is destroying the sport.

        • idk

Schools that engender loyalty among their core group stand to gain, in the long run.

This means the core has to be made up of players who are developing and have something to prove.

There will always be leakage. But there is value in buying a couple good years of production with the team you developed with, in terms of getting looks at the next level.

Some teams out there rely on too much national recruiting. The roots just aren’t as deep for those players. And the consistency will suffer, over time, if results aren’t constantly superior.

Even that doesn’t seem to matter, for many. Of course, we also don’t know how many kids have been forced into the portal by their coaches.

    • How are these NIL deals structured? I understand at a basic level how free agent contracts are built for the NFL, with parts that are incentives for performance as well as how management intends to handle the load of the payout, but is there any similarity at all?

What if you enter the portal, receive a lucrative offer, then don’t crack the starting lineup?

Season ending injury after say, 2-3 games? Or just are an injury prone type of player?

How can you build a brand off your likeness, when you consistently team hop every 1-2 years? The professional player has the advantage of time in the same league or develops a following built from past accomplishments. O.o

      • I think primarily the negotiations are around appearances at places/events. IE, you agree to 10 appearances during the year or so many tweets/posts, etc. Seems next to impossible to include any type of on-field results to it unless you have the coaching staff in your pocket too. I did see a post by an NIL collective person, not OSU related, mention something to the fact that kids shouldn’t be surprised that at some point contracts with financial implications for not living up to your part of the deal would be happening. Of course that didn’t sit well with people which would tend to suggest that it really does seem to be heavily in favor of the athletes right now if thought of contractual limitations received so much pushback. It’s so crazy how much the NCAA dropped the ball on this. Had they regulated the portal and NIL in a more structured fashion then some of this wild, wild west stuff could’ve been avoided.

        • They have no choice on NIL, and the portal is just fine.

It’s the bowl season that has to move, in order to accommodate school transfers, not the portal period.

If we had a NCAA Tournament on this level, the championship game would be next week, and everything would be froggy.

But we don’t. We have this extended period of crap bowl games that culminates in ESPN raking in the dough.

Thankfully, the Sun Bowl is on CBS.

    • Interesting. Reading between the lines, I would say starting/playing time is a higher priority for him than NIL money.

The lack of QB news for the Beavs is making me anxious!

    • From a 24/7 article – if the truth is being told, would explain the smaller school interest:

“I think not just for us but a lot of people back in high school, you can get caught up in how big a school is or how big their brand is,” Nelson said. “I’m dead serious when I say, we really don’t care how big a school, if they’re a blue blood or not.

“We’re just looking for the best all around fit where Malachi can come in and compete for a starting spot in the Spring. Not asking for guarantees but just a chance to be a day one starter, to lead a program, win a Championship, be a leader and do all the right things, on and off the field.”

I really hope that the gameplan doesn’t go the ucks way and they end up with a qb controversy on hand and both guys are erratic and underperforming.

  10. Jordan Anderson has posted something briefly multiple times today where i receive the notification but when i go check what the post was, its already deleted.
Has happened several times this week too. Odd behavior

  11. It’s been quiet on the “news of the [sports media] world” for the past month or so, but there was an interesting item in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal titled “Amazon in Talks to Add Regional Sports Content.]

The context for the story is the bankruptcy of Diamond Sports Group, which had carried the games of more than 40 professional sports teams. The story opens with a few key paragraphs, to wit:

“Amazon is in talks to invest in the biggest regional-sports programmer, a move that would advance the e-commerce giant’s aggressive push into sports content as it takes on streaming rivals like Disney and Netflix. Diamond Sports Group . . . filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, is actively negotiating with Amazon about a strategic investment and a multi-year streaming partnership. . . . If an agreement is reached, Amazon’s Prime Video platform would eventually become the streaming home for Diamond’s games.

Diamond, which as the local rights to about half the teams in MLB and the NBA and about a third of the NHL teams, would continue operating its cable networks through existing partnerships. It isn’t clear how much money Amazon is planning to invest or at what valuation.”

I deduce from this that when the CFP comes up for renegotiation after the 25-26 season, Amazon is likely to be a big player. They might want to get their feet wet with some smaller scale college football action over the next two seasons, which could prove beneficial to the Pac 2

    • How does USC have all these 4-star and 5-star recruits who hardly ever played? They’ve got to either be horribly managed by the program or else horribly overrated.

  12. So do we have any idea what kind of offense Gundy is going to run at all? Seems like they’re going after mobile and pocket QBs. It would be cool to know and then we would know how the pieces would fit and then maybe have a preference as fans which players we want. Right now we just got to trust Gundy and hope he’s the next big thing!

OT- Holy Crap, WBB might be able to pick up a couple of conference wins against the Quacks this season. Quacks just lost to Utah Tech. What the hell happened to their program?

Small colleges can sometimes offer a unique experience. My daughter was fortunate enough to earn NAIA All-American honors in cross country this year. Goes to a small school in Nebraska.

Thanks for the feedback. Congrats to your daughter. That’s an impressive achievement. My older son received a two-year soccer scholarship at a JC, but after playing for a year and a half he decided to go into the military. He said, I need a career, I’m not going to play professionally.

    • Oops repeat post. mckalk already covered overman deal. Jake must have been unhappy regardless of coach, maybe inevitable situation there

  15. So @MHver3 locked their account, deleted all the posts he made referencing the potential for an investment firm to take over a merged PAC/B12/ACC, and removed a number of followers. The x (twitter) people are speculating that he would only do that if he had received some kind of official cease-and-desist, and that the info he was spreading was most likely actually legit to some degree.

    • I don’t love the WWE angle that was being discussed but I do like the idea of P2/B12/ACC forming a massive super-conference. Seems like then they perhaps become TBTF (too big to fail) that can combat the B12/SEC takeover attempts.

  16. Good Instagram story on beavs.report account. Re-posted vid from Murphy’s Insta of the trip back to Portland. He’s wearing Beaver track pants. FWIW.

  17. When does signing day start? I wonder if we’ll get any surprises hopefully good ones? There was never much excitement with smiths classes they all pretty much just committed, stayed, and signed. I imagine we’ll have a big late signing period.

    • I think it all happens tomorrow morning. Not that we have many 2024 recruits ready to sign. But there will be a handful plus maybe some transfers announced. And we should learm where Anderson is going(us or SDSU apparently, which is odd given he’s supposed to be one of the top WRs in SoCal)

      • Would hurt to lose him to SDSU. Our wr room is wide open just waiting for a #1 receiver. He would make bolden that much better and compliment each other.

  18. I’ve added another new thread for signing say.
Wasnt sure how to schedule a start time for the morning so it’s already up. I doubt i’ll be checking in till around 7:30, well after things have started. Feel free to add updates as they come in
