Go to page 3 and watch the linebacker video.

That's what a coach should look like. Inspired, intense, working hard…he reminds me a bit of Bronco Mendenhall.

Thoughts on Bray becoming a D Coordinator (…and maybe even a head coach one day)? Seems like he'd be a good successor to Banker. Can't wait to see the improved LB play. If I were OSU, I'd try to lock this guy up now. Schools will be after him within a few years.

Also, I was impressed with Rod Perry's video. From what I hear, he's teaching the DBs to turn around and play the ball…

  1. Beavs will probably stick with Banker and let Bray go, though. Don’t you think? I just don’t see them spotting the obvious and hiring this guy.

I think he’d be a solid recruiter, too. In his current position (GA), he can’t recruit.

  2. But can Rod Perry recruit? So far, the recruting has been horrific. I like Bray alot, it will be a shame to lose him after this year. Who would he take the place of, if Trent was added on?

  3. I think OSU should offer Zack Greenlee at QB. The guy is doing very well at the Elite 11 camp and has great instincts, determination and confidence. So far as I know Fresno St. is his main offer right now. OSU could land this guy if they were serious enough about it and go for a more athletic type like Zack then some of the guys Riley prefers that are almost always slower movers.

Anyone else notice this guy yet? He has a great personality to boot. He would be an effective leader quickly.

    • I agree, I don’t know why we haven’t offered, or why others have not as well. I wonder if grades are an issue? I read recently that I think Michigan was looking at him hard.

  4. I would love if bray would take over the defensive coordinator position. If we struggle again defensively, banker needs to go. Another possible offensive coordinator we should go after is THR little general, Jonathan smith. These are two players who were good not because of their athletic ability but because they had the right stuff between the ears. My biggest knock on Riley is that he has held on to coordinators who haven’t performed to a high level in a whole.

    • How many 29 year old defensive coordinators in D1 with 2 years of D1 coaching experience? I loved Trent Bray as a player and he does have good potential as a linebacker coach and recruiter but D coordinator now? Not a chance.

      • I agree a little early to throw a DC position at him. If we struggle again this year then I would want Riley gone, and then go after Justin Wilcox at UW. Throw some jack and offer HC job.

  5. Off topic, but are people getting the Pac-12 network on Comcast?

Right now it says not available in my area (wtf).

What about east coast Beavs–are you guys out of luck? Do you get the regionals or only the national channel?

    • On a related topic: are people with Comcast finding access to PAC12 network live material online?

It’s supposed to be accessible online through XFINITY, but I can’t find it anywhere on their site. And Comcast won’t allow you to access it via the PAC 12 network site. Found a bunch of articles that said xfinity is supposed to have all these premium content…but no results yet.

    • In Napa. I’m on Comcast and not paying for the sport package currently, but I do have HD. I am getting 823 which is Bay Area Pac12 HD (cal & Stanford focus). Same channel w/ standard def on channel 433. But the national pac12 channel(which is only standard def!?!??) is 434 and shows “not authorized”. I understand that paying extra on my already ridiculously high account can add sports package to include that standard def p12 national channel, but I’m unable to buy the other regional channels.

        • No. No Oregon region even available to me on Comcast. Another poster on a different thread (i dont remember who, but i liked it) had the idea of changing a billing zip code. Sounded like a smart loophole.

I assume the regional networks will carry out of region conference games that don’t time conflict. But that might make too much sense. As far as online content, I’m supposed to sign in with Comcast user name and password. Word with NBC’s lame Olympic coverage on my IPad. But right now the P12 says it can’t support this device yet…

          • Based on what I’ve found, they say we’ll get regional coverage by Sept 1. I guess they’re still rolling it out. This is a really botched job IMO. Nobody knows what the hell is going on, and people in P-12 country don’t have the channel. Bad job.

    • I’m in Boston and I have the SD National P12 network. Not sure if I can add the Oregon channel too, but at least this one works.

The online stream i’m guessing will be up by the first games, but it’s not up and running now. I’m wondering though with the online stream – will I have access to any other regional network?

Right now on the National one, the Beavs vs. Nicholls St. game is on reply at 3 am EDT…with a 6 week old, I could be up but not by choice!

  6. According to Comcast ( phone ) they won’t open up Xfinity online to Pac12 until there are actual games. I guess until then the content on all 7 channels is the same anyway.

  7. My roommate and I have comcast HD channels and we get the Pac12OR regional in HD which is channel 720, but the Pac12 Network channel is 421 in my area and we get the “Not Authorized” notice as well.

I’m wondering if the Oregon State game will be on 420/720(regional) or if it will be on the 421(National). Also, I’ve read that if you pay the $8 a month for the Pac12 network, you also get FCSP, FCSC, FCSA, CBSSD, and the Big 1G Network.

So if you can watch ALL those games…it’s worth the money, but those who can actually GO to the games like myself, not really worth the extra $8 a month for all those channels.

    • The Nicholls St. game is going to be broadcast live on Pac-12 Oregon and then replayed on the National and other regional channels later.

  8. OT – But more of this attitude is needed – see quotes near bottom:

    http://portlandtribune.com/pt-rss/12-sports/113666-osu-gets-defensive-in-a-good-way

And in the running game, if Riley has “two in mind” for RB, I’m guessing Agnew and Woods, the latter whom Riley said has become a good receiver out of the backfield:

    http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2012/08/oregon_state_beavers_football_100.html

On the injury notes, Watkin’s missed time is Zimmerman’s, and probably the team’s, gain.

    • Regarding Riley’s “two in mind”….I hope it is Agnew and Woods. I think that’s the right call.

But I think he’s thinking Agnew and Ward. Riley said a lot of good stuff about ward, and he’s had the most reps with the 1s. And, those two are the ones with experience. Well, them and Jenkins….

  9. I’ve heard that you can’t get the Pac12 channel in the Rogue River Valley- Medford/Grants Pass. We’ve got Charter Cable. Anyone know if Charter is going to pick up the Pac12 Network?

Here’s a useful tip: After using my 15 views of Cliff on 3 different computers and my phone, I found that if I erase my history, I get 15 more visits. Haven’t tested thoroughly, but seems to work.

  10. I knew there would be glitches and misinformation given before the networks hit the air, but I didn’t think it would be this bad! Here’s the deal with Comcast Cable:

You get the Pac-12 regional station in standard and hi-def with your digital starter or your digital preferred, however, if you want the national Pac12Net, then you will have to get their “Sports Entertainment Package” for “less than $10 a month for 12 months”. This package includes: NFL Redzone, Fox Soccer, CBS Sports Network(Which for some reason…I already get), Fox College Sports channels, and Goal Line.

So if you aren’t going to watch any of the other programs after the football season…is it really worth spending the “$10 a month” for just 4 extra channels that are standard def and not hi-def?!

    here’s the comcast link: http://www.mostlivesports.com/SportsProgramming/

    • I chatted with Charter and this is their response:

Does Charter carry the PAC-12 network?

      August 2012

Charter does not have a carriage agreement in place for at this time to carry PAC-12 Network.

However, most PAC-12 Conference football games will be telecast on ABC, ESPN and ESPN2, as well as other national sports networks.

The PAC-12 Conference season starts on Saturday September 22. TV network schedules are determined a week or two prior to the games. Visit http://www.pac-12.com/Sports/Football/Schedule.aspx for the most current PAC-12 TV schedule.

We are hopeful that our negotiations with PAC-12 Network will result in more reasonable terms and a positive outcome for our customers.

  11. In general, I feel 5.4 wins should be the Over/Under this year. Analyzing a 2012 Complete Season Breakdown though I ended up with a scenario that I think is quite possible and a little shy of 5 or 6 wins. In this breakdown we are 3-4 at one point and also 4-5 before ending rather flat. While I feel 5 or 6 wins is more likely, a poor 4-8 showing could also for sure happen. A 3rd losing season in a row with a bad finish of the season could be what it takes for BDC to strongly consider a new regime in Corvallis.

      • The good thing about that website is it’s possible to have an exchange about a certain topic over a period of time.

The way this site is being used as soon as a new topic is posted by angry the things that were being discussed in the previous topic are pretty much dead.

        • If we moved to the forums we could easily do that setup, but people preferred this.

Also, if you subscribe to comments you should get a notification via email if someone responds to an old thread. You have to be a registered member to use that, I believe.

        • I’m familiar with forums but that particular forum straight out of 1999 is painful to look at. Personally I like forums for the same reason that you listed but the use of them has never really caught on, on this site.

    • One thing makes those lunch meetings relevant–money.

If the people who attend these meetings don’t find value in them, then they don’t give money. If they do, then they whine about it online.

    • I used to go to those Portland Friday huddles with Riley but quit because they were a waste of time. Pure milktoast and a seriously geriatric crowd. Not knocking the older generations at all, just not something I found compelling.
One time at the MAC club Riley offered to break down some plays on the big screen. We’re talking full blown, in depth breakdowns of various plays from several pac teams! Ok, now we’re talking! He wasn’t holding anything back and it was incredibly insightful… until grandma in the back would ask the most rediculous question about how rainy the last two games were, sending Riley back to his ho-hum responses, eating all the time allotted for football analysis.

    • What do you think his body language says?

      1. I needed the roster spots for a couple of 3rd string lineman who want to transfer from U of O when sanctions hit?

      2. I can’t figure out why they wanted to leave with the big water balloon fight I have planned.

      3. Had to get on with their lives and make some money for their families.

      4. I can’t understand why a guy would give up a chance to earn a free education.

      5. They weren’t panning out and I had to force them off the team.

      6. I’ve got Penn State transfers waiting for a spot on the team.

      7. They were flunking out of school and were going to lose their scholarships anyway.

      8. Who knows?

      • Hesitant and lots of tension. Not a happy moment. Looks at the ground, takes a big breath, etc.

He did not look very comfortable with the situation. Especially the deep breath. That was very unusual.

However, he did look relieved when someone changed the subject and asked about a walk-on.

        • I think you are on to something. But the pressure is on our Riley. He really needs to make this a season of improvement. So maybe he is more nervous than usual.

        • Agreed, it was not a happy or comfortable moment. Riley shows that the loss of these two was serious, not something he wanted to happen now. Not sure it tells anything other than he is actually engaged this year.

If it was peer pressure which caused them to leave, he still has invested in them and expected to have them available for the season. If Riley pushed them out he has a heavy heart having made a difficult (for him) decision. Either way, loosing 9 players in a short period of time isn’t something Riley expects to deal with very often.

How about the guy in the background? Looks like Cliff and could explain some of his dis-jointed blogs.

  12. The Oregon State versus Nicholls State game has got to be one of the most boring collegiate football games ever to be shown on a major sports network. As shocking as it might seem, I fear it is not beyond the realm of possibility that the Beavers will be upset for a second straight year by a lower division school. The pressure is on the Beavers to win and Nicholls State has nothing to lose and will be playing at a high level. It is hard to imagine the degree of humiliation that Beaver nation could suffer should the Beavers lose this one. If in fact they do lose Riley and his gang of imbeciles should immediately resign for the good of the program.

    • If this game is even close, seems to me Riley has flunked his rise from the ashes. Thus it would be better if Nicholls actually wins…and we then have a real shot at a coaching change.

If I were Nicholls State, I would be pointing toward this game, and looking to make my season by knocking off a highter tier school.

If I were Riley, I would be worried about this game, and scheming at my best to get a convincing win. I would not treat this as a warm up to Wisconsin.

Riley can coach and win. He has shown that. But the current Riley may not be that Riley. We will see, wont we.

  13. Off topic- I Was at a wedding last night and talked to a friend who’s related to a Duck fb player. Sounds like Colt Lyerla was missing those practices early in summer due to getting caught with the hippie lettuce over the summer while up in Portland. Should also be missing their first game.(big deal, they wont need him). Sounds like the dude is also a headcase and grades are a big issue too. I know, not exactly shocking news, but the first i had heard about the weed.

  14. Hey would you mind letting me know which webhost you’re using?
I’ve loaded your blog in 3 completely different internet browsers and I must say this blog
loads a lot faster then most. Can you recommend a good internet hosting provider at a honest price?
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!
