I know one dude on the AB site will be crazy excited about this (can’t remember who).
However for me, I’ve had season tickets since ’97, 4 seats in Section 10. I currently pay a $200/seat fee=$800 a year plus the cost of the tickets, $1126 ( I think-I ‘m not taking the time to look up and confirm). In addition I have paid parking as well, $1250.00. All in…$3176.00 OH and we’ve attended the recruiting dinner every year since it’s inception and had a coach/player table=$1500.00
All that in addition to monies I donate to the Science dept etc. (I used to have season baseball tiks but once they compressed the schedule and my boy is playing HS ball I couldn’t justify the expense for games we couldn’t attend)
To stay in the same general area under the renovation proposal….I’ll be paying $500-800 per seat….an increase of $1200 to $2400.00 a year.
My sister opted to move to the new section with my dad, who needed a chair with back. Now currently paying $800/seat x6=4800.00…not sure how much her tiks are annually but they are more than mine…..and they have bumper parking $4800.00
All told our family has 10 tickets and pays $5600/year in seat fees.
So I’m a third generation beaver, so is my sis…. We’re both looking at not renewing this next season
1) Product is bad
2) Game day experience is worse
3) We pay for parking but I can buy a spot….closer to the game for $20-$40 a game at 6 games =$240 max….vs the $1250 I’m paying now. BTW those are athletic dept run lots too.
4) PAIN IN THE ASS to have 7:30 games. Can’t do (or won’t do it much longer) the drive back to PDX 5 of 6 games with all the drunks.
Now it looks like I’ll be paying $12-2400.00 a year for the same product in an improved seat….And I won’t have the seats or seat neighbors I’ve had for 17 years. I like my seats and I’m close to the aisle. NO guarantee I’d get that with the renovation.
The decisions not final….but it looks like the Athletic Dept is going to lose 10 seats from season ticket holders and probably about $4675 from me alone and an estimated $11,000 from my sis and dad for a total of approx. 15K a year.
Anyhow. Thought you’d be interested in what I got in the mail and my personal take.
I don’t remember BDC ever saying, “if you like your seats you can keep your seats”.

Same here. I don’t have problems with white people either.
The whole season ticket thing is foreign to me, I don’t like big live sporting events. I don’t like drunk people, I don’t like masses of people,I don’t like a lot of cars and I don’t like overpriced food. I like my house and my TV. I’ve attended 4 or 5 Beaver football games in my lifetime and one was in Logan, UT. The Utah St. game was actually the better experience.
I’m with you. I haven’t been to a FB game since 2006 I think and have no desire to. If the game sucks I can always just turn it off and go do something else. My house is always warm and the beer is cold. Don’t have to worry about driving or dealing with other drunk douches. Football season tix are a waste of money to me. But, to each their own. Baseball and hoops are a different story and there’s more than just the 5 or 6 home football games.
I am amazed at the commitment of the Beaver fans. That is ( at least for me ) some serious money for entertainment. I just wish the team and staff expected as much out of themselves as they do the fans. With the weather we have here it would seem like more fun to take a trip to Vegas or Hawaii instead of watching a team mail it in. If this team were a business, what would be the objectives. Sell seats and TV money. With revenue sharing the Beavers get the same money in the New Mexico bowl or the Rose Bowl. So they have figured out any bowl fills those seats and meets their business objectives. The only way the status quo changes is with an empty stadium.

Sounds like the OP is walking away. I wonder if there’s a waiting list for season tickets or his 15k is just lost revenue.

In our situation, that only works of those extra tickets are cheaper. I have a buddy and we both graduated in 09-10 and have had season tix since, we most likely won’t renew next season. Factors are team performance, price and game times. Emphasis on game times. Price is second and performance makes it too fought to take.
Schwing!!! The design is what Oregon State needs. I have dreamt of what it would be like to be on the upper deck looking across at all your fellow fans on the opposite upper deck. This isn’t lipstick. This is doing it right with a nice pressbox and also some sky suites. Chip Brown of Orangebloods was reporting that the BCS bigboys are demanding a Division 4 elite division for football. He mentioned possible regional divisions of 8 teams each and an 8 team playoff. Possibly less focus on the conferenced on this maybe only becsuse the other sports e ould not change unless they were forced to break away. That could mean the old Pac-8 is our regional division. Also possible that a NW champion could take on a California champion for the right to be our rep in the playoff. I kinda like the idea if they can end up with cloely enough balanced divisions. Still thibk the Texoma 4 joing the Arizona and Mountain schools makes sense for a Region because Oklahoma and Texas fighting to be the Texoma rep is a huge rivalry and then they take on ASU or Utah which they should gave a slight advantage over but it is still great for the AZ and Mountain schools because their “pod” has nice opportunity. This sounds a lot like 64 if they can get this done. Then merge ACC and rest of Big 12. That group can be made nearly as strong as the others. A few current BCS teams may miss the cut but I don’t think this is the proper football division for Wake Forest anyway. Ratings with a structure like thus and compete nearly at an NFL level. Oregon State will look the part with a gem of a smartly designed stadium and the atmosphere of the dual mirrored double decker makes for an electric atmosphere. Fireworks need to be used for every OSU TD because they should have only Div 4 teams play eachother and no more lame games. No every game is a big deal and the regional rivalries and divisiob rivalries will be major and cross division rivalries are also solid and culminate maybe in a championship for the 16 team conferences for seeding in the playoff or each division winner just automatically is in the playoff and a committee seeds them based on season performance perhaps without the need for a conference championship. I prefer the conference chsmpionship for 4 more awesome games but if they decide to just form these division with less focus on conference then a conference championship is not an absolute necessity.
Delaney wants this to be decided on by next year and the NCAA to sanction it. Maybe just one year of a 4 team playoff for the trial run and then this is finalized and the very next have a great 8 team playoff if lucky.

exactly. no demand for it except strictly aesthetic. If it adds more seats, they’re gonna be empty. Plus some folks won’t renew with the jump in price. Hence the reason this is only a feasibility study. And more than likely the study is a waste of money that finds it not feasible.
It falls under the spend money to make money theory. Payback may take a very long time, but to keep butts in the seats, it helps to have legroom and seatbacks and proximity to pissers.

There’s some contradiction here. So they shouldn’t upgrade facilities because of empty seats? But they won’t fill the seats until there are wins, and they won’t win until they spend money. Weren’t you just saying the other day they need to spend $?

I didn’t say they need to spend money. I said they cry poverty. And i’d also never encourage spending money for the sake of it.
I don’t know if putting more seats in will bring more people. Some people apparently agree it works that way, so maybe this is good. Maybe people would flock to see the new stadium? That is valid the first year or two.
From an aesthetic point, the build would be a good thing. But it might quickly become embarrassing (and a waste of money) if nobody uses the seats. There is definitely not organic demand for these seats.
This is only about 49k if even quite that. Maybe 48.5k. Stadium eon’t be built until 2019 so there is still awhile to wait. The OSU student population grew over 5.8% this year which was the largest in the Oregon Univ. system. Whoever is coach just need a minimum of 7-5 seasons and it can be supported by yhat time. There is some truth that Riley couldn’t support it as well as a new coach though because by that time if he is doing a lot of 6-6 type efforts he will have turned off a lot of people who will find him extremely stale by that time.
Best for something like this to be a handoff to the next coach after maybe givibg Riley his farewell season in it. But if we end up chained to Riley he may get more than half a decade in it and we could have 13 more years of the same old regime. Too boring for many but Riley has been put ahead of the university for some strange reason. He better beat UW tiday if he wantd fans to think he deserves to open up a Renovated Reser as our coach.
Byte, how much of that “growth” is distance education? i.e. students who would never attend a game.
They ate doing more online hybrid enrollment where part of the coursework is online, but the vast majority us still in Corvallis. Cascades campus also growing but still much smaller. More of a product of people kowing OSU is thd best for science and matg and jobs.
I just expect Riley to raise his game to deserve to lead us into this and instead lately we see more of a tired and somwhat dehected Riley. Dykes may not kast more than 2 years at Cal uf he can’t produce yet OSU appears keen to give Riley 25. BDC nassively screwed up that deal and the awful extensions not only suck for all the added time but also cramp OSU by forever keeping the buyout high. For these reasons and many others I agree with so many others that BDC needs to be fired as soon as possible. A new AD can finish Reser just fine without all the big mistakes BDC has caused with contracts and Riley’s being the worst in the history of college athletics.
Looks like the Corvallis campus is growing by about 1000 students per year.

My seats would jump from a $200.00 donation to $500.00. 2.5 times the cost, No way I’d renew.
There is a concept that’s used in business that says when trying to grow a group of people, you generally will only fill your meeting/gathering area to roughly 80% capacity. Despite all the group’s efforts to gain more members, sometimes just increasing your space will do it. I’ve seen this play out personally a few times so I wonder if the same theory works on a 40-60,000 person stadium?
I think it would the first year as people go to check it out. Would it stick, though? I doubt it unless the team was very good. Or maybe the atmosphere improves so much with the added fans that it becomes a feedback loop and they keep going back. That is possible.
I’m down with the renovation from an aesthetic viewpoint, but without organic demand it’s a strange project and quite risky. I guess go for it. Better to spend Bernanke Bucks on something before they’re worthless.
Pro baseball does not agree with this concept. The trend has been to build smaller, more intimate venues that are full. Yes college football has bucked this trend and has continued to supersize. If football does not get the head injury problem under control soon, those large stadiums will be mini Detroits. There are fewer youths playing as parents simply are not willing risk injury. At some point, fans will tire of nonstop live litigation (instant replay challenges) and specialization gone crazy. Look at all the hubbub surrounding defensive players involved in a few offense snaps.
They should make it multi-purpose and hold rock concerts, etc.
the one thing they should do in a rejuvenated stadium is move the beavs sideline from the east side to the west side. i still don’t get the reasoning for putting your home team staring into the sun.

Fans at Parker…I mean Reser are largely unnecessary. From my personal experience all they do is cuss and throw things. My game day strategy was be so far behind at halftime that they would go home early and leave me alone. If that doesn’t work they could push the kickoff back to 9:00. JB

I have yet to get this in the mail, but this change will push my donation past $1000. I’ve missed more games than I’ve attended in the previous three years and all four games I’ve made it to this year were losses. If the renewal came today, I’d drop my tickets. Perhaps I’ll feel different come March/April.

If you’re bothered by the product or game day experience, that’s a legitimate issue. Understandable to drop for that reason.
But I don’t get the “my seats are getting more expensive” complaint. Yeah they’re getting more expensive, but they’re also getting much nicer. The bleacher seating SUCKS. Wouldn’t be so bad if you could stand for the game, but when you have to sit and a bunch of big guys always end up crowding you out of your spot, it’s a little ridiculous. Plus, the new side will rise at a steeper angle so the view will be better.
If you want to stay at your current seat price, you can switch to a different section and stay at that price…I don’t see the controversy.
Your point has very little to do with it. Is the product on the field getting better? If not where does OSU get the balls do at the very least double the cost to watch same saud mediocre product?
The cost is doubling because the seat quality, view, and overall experience takes a big jump up. Just because the seats happen to be in the same general area does not make the seats the same.
If that’s more than someone is willing to play, find a different seat for the same price. The seat quality will likely be the same as that of the old seats.

again, you miss the main point. If someone leaves a higher seat donation for a seat in the renovated stadium at their same donation level pre-renovation, OSU is going to have to find replacement season ticket holders for those higher priced seats. That demand is non existent.
The cost is doubling, but the new seat isn’t necessarily twice as good, so it’s a bad value. People know this intuitively, which is why you hear guys saying they’d cancel. Things like “overall experience” are subjective and hard to put monetary value on. I would guess an aesthetically pleasing stadium would carry some experience value. But does it justify doubling the cost?
Like with most products, the way to sell more is by lowering cost. The economies of scale business model would be better. They could make these improvements, keeping prices the same (or raise them as demand dictates), and sell more over time. They should also finance this project at the current low interest rates, in which case it would pay for itself several times over the course of 30 years. I hope Bob D doesn’t plan to use the TV cash or donation cash for this. I wish there was a better explanation of the finances and funding, because that would help determine if it’s a financial deal or not. If they finance it, then yeah, built it…borrow dollars, pay back in dimes.
When I say “overall experience” I was referring less to aesthetics and more to practical considerations.
Major old side irritations I’ve had:
Being jammed into about half the space of what should be your seat (seriously, this has happened nearly every game I’ve been to- including 3 years of season tickets). We get crowded in both directions. The portable seats that some people bring are terrible if you get stuck behind the guy and have long legs. Far worse than coach seating on an airplane.
The shallow elevation angle can make it very hard to see the game, especially if you’re shorter. IMO this is a major reason for the crotchety old guys yelling at people to sit down. This problem is absolutely terrible if you sit near an aisle, and have to deal with people filtering in and out of the stand all game long.
Dealing with people trying to leave and re-enter with quarters as close as they are. Major hassle and distraction and always seems to come at the worst possible time.
You might think these are petty, but for my Dad and I they are major contributors to going to a game vs staying home. If you’re seriously uncomfortable for 3 hrs and/or can’t consistently see the game, why would you pay to go? So for me sitting in the same general area for double the price would be a good value. If I didn’t want to pay the difference I would sit in a less favorable spot but still reap most of the benefits listed above (and possibly still see the game better!)
If Riley can’t up his game then in the next few years it is time to find a coach who can. Pac-12 jobs are prized and there aren’t too many openings. We could get a solid coach and be likely to have better energy in the program. I hope the next AD makes a 100 year rule that OSU will never have a coach for more than 10 years again. That is more than enough. There is a very good reason why even presidents only get a max of 8 years. This coach hopping fear tactic is BS because it only will happen in the future with atleast 10 wins which we would get to experience and odds are pretty rare. A good length is a 5 year deal with extensions for 8-4 or better during the regular season. In the final two years you can review and grant up to two more years if desired. Thus a great ciach could get 9-10 years if he really earned it but otherwise it will be about 7 if just around the Riley level and only 5 or less if it was a poor fit. Like Cal you could have a buyout clause to cut bait fairly cheap after year 2 or 3 if coach was not producing enough wins. Have to believe there are a number of possible coaches who would no more about the type of identity they planned to instill in their players.
For what it’s worth, I would likely go to more games as a result of the remodel, long-term and short.

I urge people to fill out the form and send it back to them. In the comments section I stated that if I wanted to keep my seats that I would be paying twice the amount per seat and at that price I would not renew. I kept my seats in the old section because I like the people I sit with and I didn’t see the value in moving to the new section.
Also if you go to the project website it shows that the earliest that the stadium would be breaking ground would be 2020 due to bond that the athletic department is paying back right now. Also there is some discussion on grandfathering people in. I’m guessing that if we don’t let our feelings be heard then there won’t be much of a discussion on grandfathering.

Clear indication that the Kelly era is over. Kelly never let his guys get complacent against a subpar opponent.
Sad thing is, that could have been us. If they beat the Wildcats comfortably this week and Riley brings his A-game next week, we could have caught them offguard and wrangled an upset. This week proves it.
But now they’ll be angry and fired up, and it’ll be a same-old, same-old civil war.
