Talk about what you wish, but some interesting notes:
Ellsbury donates 1mil to the baseball program. Finally an ex-athlete gives back. OSU seems to have the stingiest pros.
Tinkle hires two of his buddies, and the OSU nepotism continues. I’m sure all coaches do this to a degree, but Riley has made us particularly sensitive to it.
Seems too early to talk about football, so I’m not sure how to bridge the gap between now and August. Maybe we can all bike ride over to the local Knights of Columbus and play bingo with Riley?
Jason Qwick had mentioned Ellesbury and Barney both made substantial contributions to the new baseball facility. I’m assuming they waited to announce it until after the season ended, but havent heard anything else about how much Barney donated.
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2014/05/pat_casey_dared_to_dream_and_n.html
Do we have very many big money former athletes? Steven Jackson comes to mind and Gary Payton. Ellsbury has to rank near the top money earners of all former OSU athletes. I think Chad Johnson donated to the school awhile back, while he still had money. Who else is left?
Didn’t Anderson sign a huge deal after his one good season? Nick Barnett and Ellison must have had millions, too. Paea signed a big deal, I think…etc. Cooks just signed a 4 year deal. Not sure what he got.
Edit: looks like Cooks got 4.4 mil to sign with 8+ mil total.

I looked a few up just for S’s and G’s
Chad Ochocinco $5M http://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-athletes/nfl/chad-ochocinco-johnson-net-worth/
Steven Jackson $23M http://www.therichest.com/celebnetworth/athletes/nfl/steven-jackson-nfl-net-worth/
Gary Payton $130M http://www.therichest.com/celebnetworth/athletes/nba/gary-payton-net-worth/
Jacoby Ellsbury $20M (just signed contract for $153M with Yankees) http://www.therichest.com/celebnetworth/athletes/baseball/jacoby-ellsbury-net-worth/
Darwin Barney just signed $2.3M contract for 2014. Should continue to see his number rise over the next decade.
Derek Anderson- couldn’t find link, but signed for ~$25M in 2008 and another ~$8M in 2010, so he’s doing pretty well for himself.
Stephen Paea is in the midst of a $3.69M contract. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/chicago-bears/stephen-paea/
Nick Barnett signed for ~$35M in 2007. Currently making ~1$M per year (wow, didn’t expect to see such high numbers for Nick)
Brandon Browner signed recently for ~$17M with New England
Matt Moore is on a 2 year $8M contract currently
Beavblazer net worth $87K (and they’re not getting a dime from me other than ticket revenue maybe)
Couldn’t find information for Brent Barry, A.C. Green.
That Ellsbury deal is amazing. Seems like baseball is the way to go if you have pro athlete abilities. Longer careers and that money is outrageous. Plus, you don’t have the concussion issues and can still walk after you retire.
It takes longer to get big money in baseball though
Usually 2-3 years in the minors on busses (after college) plus 3 MLB seasons at the minimum. Big pay day takes 8-12 years of pro ball.
The amount of time it takes to earn big money in MLB is often ignored when fans look at the big deals and few guys get those deals.
I’m surprised at the number of players who continue to play for the farm teams year after year – providing the clubs with personnel to entertain smaller towns during the summer. I wonder what the stat is for players who play 4 years in the minors ever moving up and how much money they make in the meantime. Parker Berberet is now in A+ in Florida in his 4th year with the Brewers. Stefen Romero in his 5th year doing well with the Mariners, breaking in just this spring. I guess it’s worth it for some but what a grind!
I wonder how guys like Mitch Canham and Tyler Graham continue. I follow Canham on Twitter – the guy is married with a kid. Can’t imagine they earn a salary to support a family.
Gillespie is bouncing around the MLB so he is making a couple hundred grand probably. The kid who pitched for the Phillies probably make a couple hundred.
What happened to the 1st baseman from a few years ago? I think he was Canadian. But last I heard he was one of the top prospects on whatever club he was signed with. Figured he would have made it to the show by now.
Baseball may be a job, but it’s also a religion full of magic cosmic truth in the fundamental ontological riddles of our time.
Houzmanzadeh must have made some coin. He was in the NFL for years…
yeah, bb, there are some guys out there with money.
Matt Moore’s 8 mil is pretty shocking. I figured 1mil or so per year for him. Quizz will probably get a good bump soon, too.
Funny no one has mentioned Johnny Hekker – I think he’s at least a millionaire.
“Andy Levitre signed a 6 year / $46.80 million contract with the Tennessee Titans, including a $10,500,000 signing bonus, $13,000,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $7,800,000”
That’s pretty good dough.
In Men’s BB news, Manderson has been officially granted release from his LOI. Says he has been in contact with Miami, Indiana, Memphis among others and is still open to being recruited by Tinkle. Tinkle is supposed to take a home visit. Can’t imagine he would pass up the chance to play with a Miami or Indiana to play for the Beavs.
No updates on Oliver.
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2014/06/three-star_center_isaiah_mande.html
Also, Manderson won’t qualify to play next year, and has to increase his ACT score by a couple points to even get into school, so still a chance he doesn’t end up playing for any D1 school.
He can go prep for a year if that’s all he needs. It sounds like a lot of schools are interested though.
A little support for the Tinkle hiring:
Seth Davis ?@SethDavisHoops 58m
I’m late but never said this: Oregon State’s decision to tap Wayne Tinkle was one of the smartest hirings of the off-season. Proven winner.
OK, I’ve done my best at filling in for Jack in his absence today. Who has tomorrow?
I don’t have any questions left unanswered except… who will be the third assistant?
One note on Gottlieb… well… two notes. First, this isn’t his first time in Corvallis. Remember his father was an assistant for Ralph. Second, he’s connected. That means he is friends with Tinkle. But he’s also friends with just about everyone out there in the hoops world… including the Pump brothers… who apparently didn’t tell him not to take the OSU job. He’s a well known developer of bigs, and he is super connected on the recruiting trail. I also noticed Tinkle waited until after Pangos AA to hire him. I guess that’s one way to get on the recruiting trail before anyone else. Screw the April period.
Tinkle said he wants to keep in-state kids here. The third coach is going to need to be connected up here. I guessed Strickland because he fits that mold and made some noise a couple months back about wanted to move into the college ranks. I can’t think of anyone more connected (including, of course with OSU) in Oregon.
*sorry… didn’t notice I had one of LinusKristickliverboner4life’s handles when I hit submit
You’re Beaverbeliver too? Man, how many personalities do you maintain? And what’s with “liver” in that name?
heh heh
From my friend Warren Buffett:
“Hi Jerry, sorry about the Beavers loss on Monday. I was looking forward to seeing you and Susie in Omaha. As they say……next year.
I looked at the financial analysis that you forwarded from Jack. In my opinion he has a severe misunderstanding of investing. The true formula is X=(k~:pi/ l-3/4) This has been my strategy for years. Don’t spread it around, when you have a winner you don’t share it with laymen.
Is this Jack a friend of yours? He seems like kind of a tool. Sincerely Warren”
Looks more like a k to pi matrix notation to me.
Is Warren saying it’s universal?
Kerry Rupp and Gregg Gottlieb aren’t Riley-esque “buddy” hires. Coach Gottlieb is a very good recruiter who was an assistant under Steve Fisher at SDSU and Ben Braun/Monty at Cal. Good x’s and o’s knowledge and is one of the top recruiters on the West Coast. Almost ended up at Auburn on Bruce Pearl’s staff. Kerry Rupp worked with Rick Majerus at Utah and kept the program together during Majerus’s health issues as he served as an interim coach. Has a solid knowledge of the game. I know more about Gottlieb than I do about Rupp, but Rupp did recruit Andrew Bogut to Utah and he wasn’t a bad college player.
I know we all have reason to be skeptical because of Riley and some of his irritating dumb-ass hires (Langsdorf, keeping Banker around) but these guys have recruited and developed some good players over the years and IMO are huge improvements over the assistants that OSU has had over the years. They WILL prove themselves. Here’s a link to Gottlieb’s bio at SDSU (pretty impressive):
http://www.goaztecs.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/gottlieb_gregg00.html
Rupp, if compared to Riley’s hires is along the lines of Jim Gilstrap (former HC, good recruiter, gets along with players, and has an eye for talent). Just my observation.
Yeah… Gottlieb is a really good hire. Rupp is one who brings stability from Tinkle’s old job. He’s sort of a buddy hire like Banker was to Riley after spending a year (or two?) together at USC. Unlike Banker, Rupp has a ton of experience as a head/assistant coach, a developer and a recruiter. Over all those years, he has made a bunch of his own connections, including internationally.
I like both hires. Now we need a D-minded guard coach who is connected in Oregon/Washington… and has graduated from college (sorry Lester). If Owens is retained, I think we can complain a little about the buddy hire.
I liked Rupp a lot when I lived in SLC and followed Utes hoops. Very highly thought of assitant to Rick Majerus and did well when Rick’s health was failing.
Conforto is projected to go 10th tomorrow, Jace Frye 91, and Davis 92nd. Wetzler isn’t in the top 100.
That’s a pretty nice class. Perhaps some more future donations coming down the pipeline for baseball.
Any word on Eric Moreland and the NBA draft? Saw he’s worked out for Boston and has a few other teams lined up. Haven’t seen any projections if he’s considered a 2nd rounder or not.
He is rated #1 in the draft class in % of body mass covered in tats. That has to be worth sum thin?
Perhaps he can get married to a Kardashian.
he’s also a big fan of the chronic. So he’ll fit right in in the ghetto I mean NBA

Are you saying all people who aren’t liberal are racist?
That’s a stereotype with which I disagree.

Word
Moreland is projected to go to Quezon City who has the 4th pick this year in the PBA.
The QC can be fun for a young single male. The beer sucks, but it can be fun.
Pat Strickland is intriguing. How are the X’s and O’s. Other than Scott Haskin and Brent Barry, I always wonder what happened to some of the Jimmy Anderson era guys like McKinney and Kevin Harris. Another guy I thought of that has good Oregon ties, but is also a HC and unlikely to leave is Brad Barbarek at Concordia. Was impressed with his team when they played at OSU. Has deep Oregon/West Coast ties in recruiting.
As far as Strickland’s x’s and o’s are concerned, he’s won four state championships in the last half dozen or so years. But this year he had to do it after finding out a couple hours before the game that half his team was suspended, leaving him with six players.
McKinney is the head girls coach at Columbia Christian, Vetter is a well known commercial builder (nerd!), Hoff played in Euroball for a decade and is now an assistant at Southridge. I’m not sure what happened to Harris.
I don’t know if Tinkle wants to let loose with the offense like that though. If he did, he could go after Hamilton at George Fox… same mentality on roids.
He’s a Washington guy though. If Tinkle wants to go the route of a connected well accomplished oregon high school coach what would you think of Tony Broadous? He’s another portland guy (and an oregon state grad), and has already made the jump to college and has been successful. (he won the NWAACC this year with portland cc.)
He’s done a nice job turning that PCC program around. He will be an assistant somewhere next.
If you can still win a title with half your team getting suspended on game day, that’s evidence of good coaching with the adjustments you have to make. Obviously, the buck stops with Tinkle, but Pat knows about the program and he was early in Jimmy’s tenure so he wasn’t too far removed from the good teams. I know he’d probably take it being an OSU alum, but it will be interesting to see. If not a third assistant, Pat may be a grad assistant or the Director of Operations. Kind of makes you wonder if Owens and Kennedy get kept?
IMO he’s too valuable as a potential recruiter to have to keep him on campus as a GA or DOBO.
Hires have been universally hailed. “Nepotism” remark as criticism is lazy.
Made you look.
You guys all forgot a big money football player,
Keenan Lewis is making $5 mill a year- 5 year contract worth $25 million. He’s the Saints #1 corner and playing very well.
Is that right? Levitre making 7.8 mil per year as a guard and Lewis only making 5 mil at corner? Sorry I had to look it up…
“Keenan Lewis signed a 5 year / $25.55 million contract with the New Orleans Saints, including a $6,000,000 signing bonus, $10,500,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $5,110,000”
That seems remarkably cheap.
I think he’s stepped up his game considerably since he signed the contract and moved from the Steelers. Or maybe the scheme is just a better fit. Either way the Saints have to be extremely pleased with his performance and what they’re paying for it. I keep reading articles about how Lewis is now an elite CB, one of the big names at the position.
He is feeling like he was snubbed in last year’s pro bowl. He is (apparently) essentially taking away his side of the field these days. He is supposedly extra motivated this year due to the “snub” of last year. I don’t watch a lot of pro ball, but I will be tracking Cooks at the Saints and hope to see Lewis excel.
The list Beavblazer put together of OSU alums and their salaries is pretty impressive; throw in Lewis and Levitre, and remember there’s still guys like Quizz out there, and that’s a pretty good list.
it seems like there should be someway – even with scheduling difficulties – to a number of those pros together in support of OSU athletics in various events, build some synergy there, and get more of them to give back. A group of pros like that could probably inspire and encourage giving from the donor base as well.
…”to GET a number of those pros together in support of OSU athletics in various events…”
Wheaton showed some promise last year as a rookie. Should take a big step forward this season. I bet he ends up with a good contract eventually.
OT… wow!

Anyone hear anything about any traction in the Athletic Dept for putting in tartan endzones this year? Alot of people want them and I think they would be wicked cool and a great way for OSU to get instant national attention.
I suppose BDC is the stick in the mud preventing this and is more interested in a lazy summer until the season starts? That guy just doesn’t get how to promote or attempt to raise the bar. He celebrates being average at best as if wanting more would just rock the boat. Football is the cash cow so doing more to maximize it is just plain good business.
Sorry man but tartan end zones would be retarded. We would get national attention for looking like idiots. Not everything that is different is cool.
But grandpa would love it!
I reiterate my thoughtful, tasteful call for tartan skirts for the (female) cheerleaders…
Tarded endzones?
sounds Ducky
Jordan has the flu, drops 38 on the Jazz. Lebronda has cramps and cries on the bench. What a pussy.

Isn’t severe leg cramping a side effect of steroid use? as well as super human strength and size and premature balding? just sayin’….
so in addition to being a pussy, flopper and traveller you implying he’s a steroid user? Don’t make LeBronda cry! You do not want to see what LeBronda does to those that make him cry! Or fuck his mother.
Having the flu (or food poisoning, or whatever was wrong with Jordan that night) will physically drain and exhaust you, but won’t physically debilitate you. Not taking anything away from what Jordan did to the Jazz in 97 (I believe that was the most inspiring and impressive performance I’ve ever watched in sports), but comparing the situations really isn’t fair. Isiah Thomas, who had his share of gutsy performances during the playoffs, also said no one could have played through those cramps.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/isiah-thomas–assist-to-lebron—michael-jordan-couldn-t-have-played-with-those-cramps-071514640.html
Personally, I’ve had cramps that were more painful and physically debilitating at that instant than the times where I blew out my ACL or fractured bones. Pushing through the fatigue and pain is something you have to do as an athlete, but there are times when the body simply says “Fuck you. This isn’t going to happen tonight.”
Unfortunately for LeBron, he seems particularly susceptible to cramping up. As much as people like to hate on him and doubt his level of competitiveness, I simply refuse to believe he’d leave an NBA Finals game for good when the end result was still very much in doubt unless he truly was physically unable to go or would have been a hindrance to his team out there. Maybe that can be a strategy teams employ against him going forward: if you’ve got a key matchup against his team, have the A/C system malfunction an hour or so before tip-off.
or kill the refs and replace them with ringers. You can’t breathe on LeBronda. It’s a foul
And now for today’s completely useless bit of trivia:
There were four schools who had first round picks in the NFL and MLB drafts. Who were they?
Congratulations to Michael Conforto first round pick! Well deserved. Let’s all hope that he consults investment guru Jack on how to invest his signing bonus. JB

Garrett sounding a little like Casey,
“…Coaches just go by what they see and then the players determine the depth chart by their performance. ”
And, a little like Riley, “You also use that time to just see what our identiy is gonna be, what our strengths and weaknesses are…”
Well… I would say he’s looking at the group as a whole to formulate what he thinks is their collective strength. Once he comes to a conclusion, he will exploit it and beat it into their heads that this is what they are, and this is what they will do… dammit!
At least I hope that’s it. There’s still a process to finding and utilizing an identity, and now is the time to go through that process… not four weeks into the season.
Yeah, that is my impression and hope. Whereas Riley seemed to be passively looking on and waiting for the team to develop a identity, Garrett seems more involved and invested in the outcome.
Hope springs eternal, part of being a fan of the Beavs.

New from Pettibonehead Low Performance LAbs… Introducing the JDF, Jack Defense Factor.
To calculate: Jack’s response time to any supplied stimulus in minutes multiplied by the length of response in AB inches, multiplied by the boredom quotient divided by 10. Try it your self at home it’s fun and easy. In today’s example the JDF score is 826.
Let’s all try it together on the forthcoming response to this. JB
moth… flame
I can’t fly very well.
Pannus?
I don’t think you know what that word means if you think it’s insulting.
But then you are a moron. So there is that to consider.
I can’t believe you tried to pass yourself off as someone with a degree in English… let alone pretending to be someone with a degree. As much as I make fun of Nikegon, at least they send people into the world with more sense than the pocket change in your head.
I do exist. I am that flabby part of your abdomen that hangs over your belt. You lift me up every time you need to take a piss. Perhaps you need to expand your vocabulary mister smarty pants.
I never knew there was a word for that. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the verification NCAA_viOlation. Looks like Jack learned a new word today!!
What a moron… doubling down on your stupidity I see. I’m guessing you can’t read a dictionary because your pannus is irritating when you read.
Then again… I’m just projecting common sense on an individual who appears to be dumb as a rock.
The word you’re looking for is panniculus… you really stupid little patch of crotch fungus.
*giggles at stupid Duck*
Pannus is short for panniculus. This is a common term in the medical field. “I am having a hard time placing the foley catheter in the patient’s urethra because his penis is covered by this large pannus.” I hope you keep that shit clean down there. Otherwise you may need a panniculectomy. You can spend your day looking up that foreign word too. Asshole.
And now he’s just pulling crap out of his backside.
*golf claps*
Did you read that on the interwebs there genius? Or are you just digging in for the long stupid?
Just to be clear… you’re saying that many medical professionals call one affliction by another affliction’s name because they’re lazy.
Btw… I’m a French model.
Okay… I went and looked it up.
http://www.empowher.com/skin-hair-nails/content/fupa-pannus-panniculus-what
I will think of you only as stupid as I thought you were before we started this discussion. Using the term pannus is still wrong for the hanging skin from the belly, which was your intent. But I can see how it can be interpreted as such since its entomological roots are the same.
Clearly you have more experience with this issue (namely some) than I do.
… wait for it…
I think your TV remote is under me.
No…no…that was a crusty sock…..Gross!
Damn!
Over his head I guess.
Can you call that congealed white stuff in my crease smegma or is there a better term? Either way it is gross and smells bad. Please clean me better.
This, ladies and gentlemen, Is the epitome of being a Duck.
The persona, the creativity, the sense of humor, the blunt stupidity and the obsession with Oregon State… all visible in one complete package.
All that is missing is starting some discussion about how any woman beaten or raped by a Duck athlete is a stupid tart, and it was her fault… just read the police report.
You edit after the fact?
You’re a dick, a liar and just… well… a dick.
You edit your posts like a chicken-shit Duck? You don’t think what you first typed makes sense now that I made you look like a fool?
Go away you fucking weak coward. You don’t deserve troll status. Trolls don’t edit after the fact. They’re people worthy of being called people. You don’t equal scum… you lying dick.
You never did say… how was Costa Rica?
This is the last time I respond to you… you fucking person, aka Duck. If you want to try to make discourse appear other than it is after the fact by editing your stupidity, you can go elsewhere. You did nothing to piss me off before that. Now you just suck in your own little world of cowardice. Go suck yourself… if you can find yourself.
Here is some response — Unlike you, (and me) Jack usually makes a thoughtful contribution to this blog….
Actually…an easier calculation to make PBH is the negative 1 I just rated your post.
Careful… you’re going to feel the wrath of everyone else at boner’s low performance lab… aka Nikegon.
heh heh… see? They can’t help themselves.
I’m going for compounded stupidity here.
Like me or not, I’m writing something.

FYI from clevelandbrowns.com
OTA report
Defensive surprises
Isaiah Trufant: He might be the smallest player on the team, but has impressed coaches by performing like a much larger athlete in coverage. Darius Eubanks: His pass coverage from his inside-linebacker position has been impressive; the guy always seems to be around the football. Jordan Poyer: He’s making a strong impression with his coverage and versatility in the defensive backfield. Leon McFadden: The second-year cornerback is making noticeable strides from his mostly disappointing rookie season. Josh Aubrey: He has made himself noticed with good, solid play in the defensive backfield.
IMO, Poyer got screwed over big time by the asinine rule punishing all players from schools on the quarter system. They aren’t allowed to attend OTAs, minicamps, etc until their school is out. That’s 1-2 months lost and puts them way behind the curve in an extremely competitive environment.
I have to think that rule would be a huge recruiting benefit for schools on the semester system. Reality is that if you’re not a truly elite player in terms of raw talent (1st or 2nd round), that lost couple of months could easily be the difference between making it in the NFL or not. Poyer’s lucky he got that 2nd chance- that could have been it for him.
I think the rule only has to do with kids who are enrolled. I agree that it punishes some. I think those it affects are the ones who are finishing school, and that’s sort of a bad message to send. I understand the NFL wants professionals dedicated to their primary job. But there has to be a middle ground.
It affects kids whether or not they are enrolled. For obvious reasons…otherwise it wouldn’t be much of a loophole.
The only way out is graduating early, after winter term. But that’s not an option most people are willing or able to achieve in 3 or 4 years with that much of your time tied up in football. If you redshirted and were around for 5 years it would be doable…but still very few would do it. And you’d probably have to have planned ahead.
Sorry, but that makes no sense. If a kid is not enrolled in a school, he’s no longer associated with that school. Therefore, he is not bound (legally) by any rule which would seek to magically make him so. If he is no longer associated with a school on the quarter system, then he is not bound by the rule.
That being said, I’m talking about being enrolled (or not) at the beginning of the spring term. If a kid starts that term on a ship, the rule is good for me. He needs to finish his work. I’m talking about not being enrolled before the draft occurs. It would actually harm a lot of schools’ APR’s if kids who were enrolled in a term were allowed to leave in the middle of it… like right after the draft occurs.
Whether or not it makes sense, that is the rule. Many (maybe most?) athletes do not enroll in spring term anyway so they can focus on training full time. But they are still kept out of nfl camps until the term is complete.
That’s odd.
I wonder how they can legally apply this rule.
Does it still apply to a hypothetical like when a kid gets booted from a team in the fall or just drops out of school then goes on to the NFL in the spring?
Wouldn’t be much of an *issue. That would be a LOOPHOLE that everyone would exploit, if it were possible.
Did the Washington State player get drafted yet? Was Ben Wetzler the only one blackballed by the baseball mafia?
Wetz in the ninth to the Marlins… Schultz to the Dbacks in the 10th
Fifth round vs ninth round $$$ not the same. Teams not willing to break unwritten rules for negotiating illegally on the sly before a guy is drafted. Teams have slotting/ pay grade system that outside of sports would be called collusion and price fixing. You no cooperate, we breaka you legs. and draft you at a lower pay grade.
More like he had no leverage this year. The only reason he didn’t go in the 11th round is because that’s when everyone would have drafted him, and the leverage became the fact that one team wanted to get him before that became apparent.
It’s actually not a bad spot for him. The Marlins suck at just about everything. The one thing they’re good at is bringing good arms up through their system.
Vandy takes game 1 from tree. The tree starter only lasted one innings as he walked 4 and gave up a two out bases loaded single as Vandy scores 4 in the 1st on just a single in the inning. Vandy scored 10 in the first 3 innings and cruised to the 11-6 win.
Honest Question,
Who here prefers logo on helmet vs. otherwise? As far as the black helmet what are the opinions that a black only w/ stripe helmet is as good for us as otherwise? I believe I can handle it but part of me starts to think about if it used the logo like the white helmet. I get that that makes the white uni a little more unique but start to wonder if it makes the home uni a little too bland? That is why I am for tartan endzones as I think that would then give everything the proper vibe and then the slightly more ‘less wild’ home uni fits right in because it doesn’t have to overstate.
I notice on the Pac-12 Network they always use the white helmet now because people know who it is much sooner and it tells people we are the Oregon State Beavers. But is that OK to always have the representation be the road unis? (Which could show we value Road Warrior tendencies)
Anyway I was hoping to get a few opinions on this? thx!
That black uni may be the ugliest piece of crap ever given to sports team.
sports bra
Thanks for nuthin’ Nike.
Don’t forget they are supposed to be using several new combos this year and not just last year’s basic 3 which was starting to get a little boring. So hopefully we see the white helmet at home atleast once to see our logo on a helmet in Reser. With 2 or 3 more home looks and up to a couple more on the road than waiting to know what we will be wearing each week will make each week that much more fun.
For our first home game this year I vote orange jerseys, black helmets and either black or white pants depending on how hot it is. All blacks in early September is not my fave at all. I just hope BDC stays completely out of what the players decide to go with each week so that we get atleast 8 unique looks this fall.
The endzones need improving whether we ever get tartan or not as last year you could see through the black to see outlines of prior years letters. Something is lacking with the field’s overall look so sprucing up the endzones is an area for improvement.
I’d agree with the white helmet/orange jersey/white pants for early home games…I think the players in the past have liked that combo, and I think it could look pretty sharp. I remember the first time the team wore the white helmets last year I was surprised at how good they looked (still think the wet rodent needs improvement – at least dropping the black outline like the avatar used here by Beavblazer).
Eaters have OSU’s number. Beat oSu tonight behind Surrey, 8-4.
Good for them.
Yupper – without Morales – Gillespie is cagey, wily, and very smart.
Wetzler really got the shaft.
Please don’t let Texas, SEC, or the ACC win the CWS. That being said, Virginia looks to be the team to beat.
Maryland up 5-3 over Virginia at the b6. Maryland ace has thrown 117 pitches already.
Maryland holds on, 5-4. Tree led 4-1 going to the 8th and gave up two to make it 4-3 going to the ninth. With one out a K and passed ball puts the tying run on. BB puts the go-ahead run on. Count goes to 3-2 to the next batter before flying out a couple of steps before the track. I’m surprised the runner didn’t get from 2b to 3b. Given the wildness a WP would tie the game. IF hit loads the bases. Woulda tied the game if the runner had advanced. HBP ties the game and tree in big trouble. Gets the groundout but the passed ball on the K may have cost tree the game.
Stanford with the walkoff dinger with one out in b9. P-12 stays alive. tree now 4-0 in elimination games.
Texass into the CWS……..yuk.
Only in the b5 and LA Laf has gone yard twice and lead ole miss, 9-4.
Is it wrong of me to want Irvine to win the whole CWS? To have had the #1 seed host the eventual champ and the crappy seeding that would imply?
Louisville advances. LA Laf takes game 1, 9-5. Eaters lead oSu, 1-0 end of 6.
The same week OSU gets a $1M donation for baseball facilities from a former player, Oregon announces an anonymous $10 donation to the softball team for a new stadium. Softball? Really?
HaHa, a $10 donation. That’s about right for softball.
My bad, that was a typo on my part. They got a $10M donation. Not anonymous any longer either
http://dailyemerald.com/2014/06/07/oregon-softball-receives-10-million-leading-gift-for-new-stadium/
Oh, I figured as much but couldn’t resist. How ironic that he made his money from the lumber industry. Back in the day I bet the students would’ve protested his gift.
Asian sweatshops…..timber industry…..these things matter not to the people of Eugene.
Eaters advance, knocking out the cowboys, 1-0.
Tree in big trouble as Vandy gets 6 hits in the t1 and plate 5 to take a 5-0 lead. Virginia stays alive.
Tree rallies to get within 6-5 but fall apart in t7. Vandy puts 4 across. 3baseman with a great play and had the runner at the plate but the catcher couldn’t hold on to the ball. Vandy runner steals 3b with the pitcher holding the ball. Replay shows the ump blew the call, should’ve been out. Still only one out and Vandy with two on and a new pitcher for Stanford. 10-5 Vandy
P-12 gone. 12-5 final.
Can’t imagine the frustration if you’re a CoC fan. Make it to the Super Regionals and lose back to back 1-0 games
As a double rodent fan, I can.
3 spots left to be determined, MD v Virginia, LA laf v ole miss and TCU v Pepperdine. It’d be nice to have one more west coast team and one less TX team.
Sounds like our baseball class is going to be gutted. Looked good on paper. This must be really frustrating for college baseball coaches.
I think recruiting from the NW is a fine idea, but the Beavs might want to poach a player or two from UC Irvine territory – there’s something to be said for Latin American baseball genes.
Somehow I think Casey et al have a petty good idea what they’re doing
I think that Casey and Co go after guys who are more likely to come to school than sign with a pro team.
Sounds like the Pac-12 has decided to reduce the number of night games next year and have created a new 11:00AM timeslot for TV games to be shown on their network.
http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ssf/2014/06/pac-12_opens_11_am_television.html
I like it better than waiting till 7:30 AM for a game, but isn’t 11:00AM a little early for the teams? Also, fans of tailgating are going to bitch louder than the people who bitched about the night games. Fans will just need to start tailgaiting the night before and stay up all night partying.
I like it better then night games. Just have to tailgate more after the games. Either party after the big win or drown in sorrows together.
Those of us with young kids are already up at the crack of dawn; 11:00am feels like 5:00pm when you got kids
Just like Tony Orlando.
Breakfast and bloody mary’s at the tailgater I guess…11:00 is too damn early. 1 pm is just right.
I think playing at 11 would feel “off” for a player, just an odd time.
Speaking of breakfast, I could murder an elk steak and eggs about now….
I’m old now, so the time is relative.
I like the 11am slot. It makes for enough time to brunch and tailgate but not the extra couple hours of watching boring B1G 10 games. We have a better product. We should be superimposing it on the nation instead of hiding it in the after-hours of a Saturday night.
The other positive is that when we travel we are already time sensitive. The one game that stands out to me is the game where UCLA had to travel to Miami after the season on a reschedule due to hurricane whatever. They were undefeated and heading to a national championship, but they had to play at a West Coast time of 9am.
That was bullshit at the time. But learning to play at that slot can’t hurt.
Bases loaded triple for ole miss to take a 9-4 lead in the 9th. Serves LA laf right for wearing those ugly-ass unis.
TCU and Virginia in.
Mel Kiper digs Sean.

“Another one bites the dust.”

I hope he spends his “life changing’ 80k (after taxes) wisely.
I agree. Short sighted.
meh
Who knew Pete Carroll was a comedian?
http://www.latimes.com/sports/usc/la-sp-usc-ncaa-carroll-20140608-story.html
He would have stayed had he know sanctions were imminent, what complete bullshit. I would prefer a “no comment” then to have to read that delusional ramble again.
Yup. Does he think anybody would believe that?
Let’s hear it for the family atmosphere!!!
Jon Rothstein ?@JonRothstein 10m
Per @ConnOregonian, OSU’s Wayne Tinkle set to hire Stevie Thompson Sr. as an assistant. His son is a Top 75 recruit in the Class of 2015.
Talk about pressure on the dads to sign them up. If you can’t get your kids to play for you in order to keep your job, then you don’t deserve the job.
In defense of the hire, Thompson is a legend in SoCal. His Crenshaw teams were second to none.
Jr. isn’t the only player in the family. Ethan will be better.
Ooh!
Tres and the Thompson Bros. in a Corvallis HS?
That’s scary hoops anywhere in the country.
As long as it’s CHS and not CV.
I would agree. But you know they’re all going CV.
Blech!
Then we should have hired the coach from None, since they finished first.
I’ve been on a commercial fishing boat since 5/30 with no cell phone service. Expected to see the Beavs in the CWS when I got back in touch with the civilized world.
That was a nice kick in the nuts.
at least you didn’t have to watch it and suffer.
Are you on a reality TV show?
Probably could have been on this trip. Jumped into the ocean at 2AM with a survival suit on to save my brother’s boat that had drifted aground after breaking anchor.
Made for TV drama.
Okay angry… I’m really pissed at the Duck shit editing his posts. I think you need to start a new thread before this one blows up.
Why do Ducks lie and dick and cower?
Why?
It’s not hard to be a decent person. Why is it impossible for Ducks?
It’s been a week since I made a topic. Is there anything worth discussing in a new thread? I’ve got nothing.
I like hoops.
Kinda kidding……
Baseball signings (or not) is a story. It takes a little investigation too.
Oh… grunt… and football… grunt!
Ugh. Before we know it we’re going to be in the worst time of year to be a Beav fan.
Max George signed with the Rockies today. Beavs need a 2b.
Here’s a good link for baseball updates: http://www.baseballamerica.com/draftdb/index.php
There’s another who was drafted around the ninth or tenth round… from Oregon?
He’s a better hitter than George and expected to come to school.
Name starts with an A?
Calm down… center myself….
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7Q8Ual3coM
Sorry… I didn’t realize that jam cut off. My bad. I promise the link below makes up for it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5BkCp4KfZ0
Conflicting reports about Trace Loeher signing with the A’s. Anybody know what is the true story?
He would be a great 2nd baseman to team up with Morrison.
That’s who I was thinking about.
Why the hell did I think his name started with A?
There was talk that he would go to school regardless. And the A’s are notorious for undercutting pricing at every level.
Still… the draw of the big league and even a relatively moderate slot bonus is hard to pass. He’s a good hitting middle IF who can really make the team better.
A’s?… A?… Is that where I got lost?
I’m just making stuff up now. :)
Sounds like he is gone. I am an A’s fan, but was hoping he would be a Beav.
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2014/06/trace_loehr_to_sign_with_the_o.html
That sucks.
He is the best non-P prospect we could have had.
That being said… Morrison at SS and anyone at 2B makes for a great IF. With Hamilton at 3B, Mildenburg should slide right into 2B without effort.
I’m worried more about 1B after Clark gets drafted next year.
Oh… and I wonder who might replace the production out of the OF.
Wetzler signs for reported $32,500….WTF. JB
Zero leverage. That’s a decision he made last year… apparently when he was cheating amateurism.
I believe he’ll more than make up for it in the future.
Wow. Talk about buying low.
We should have had an AB fundraiser and signed him for more.
I know you disliked him out of HS. But I think his work and location is the first I’ll ever compare to Maddux.
http://www.gammonsdaily.com/how-greg-maddux-dominated-with-mid-80s-heat/
I like him for a long stint since he’s not going to throw his arm out trying to beat batters with speed.
Ben is a Beaver great and should be thanked for coming back his senior year to try to go to and win the CWS. Every time he took the mound the last two years the odds were the Beavs leave the park with a W. He is the consummate battler. As a lefty with great control of two breaking balls he should make some money in the pro’s barring injuries. I hope he has a long and successful career.
Maddux and the entire Atlanta pitching staff made a living out of hitting the catchers mitt four inches off of the plate and yes I’m a bitter Mets fan. Nothing like throwing a ball and having it called a strike for an entire freakin’ career.
Thank God for the overhead camera view, but that seemed to be short-lived once the umpires started bitching about it.
Every P gets those calls… and would throw those pitches more often if they could do so as consistently as Maddux did. It takes a bulldog mentality to keep those pitches down but still tempting to both batter and blue. An inch either way could be walk central or meatball city.
isn’t that his bonus in addition to salary?
Yes, but minor league salaries are negligible. MLB uses it’s anti-trust exemption to essentially pay starvation wages to its employees/players. Depending on where Ben is assigned he will receive a monthly salary of about $2000 for AAA to as little as $600 for a rookie level. The salary is only paid for the duration of the season as little as five months. At the end of season Ben will need some sort of job to pay the bills until he reports to camp with the pitchers in mid-February.
The minor league players locally, in Eugene,Salem and Hillsboro, are getting the approx. $600. They live with host families that provide room/board and transportation. Ben’s $30,000 bonus will dissipate rapidly. Someone like Fry, with an upper six figure bonus, can sustain himself financially much longer in an attempt to cash in on the major league riches. JB
thx but poor Ben – literally
Tinkle better start coaching them up yesterday:
@JonRothstein: Oklahoma Sta, Tulsa, Oregon St + Auburn will play in a 4 team event @ the MGM Grand on 11/24 + 11/26, source told @CBSSports. Matchups TBD.
Also on the wr production replacement trail, people are forgetting about Dockery joining the team. Kids got potential…
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2014/06/oregon_state_beavers_to_add_po.html
He’s put up some pretty eye popping numbers over his career….
Should replace Cooks production all by himself.
Think guys!!!! Cal plays spread. They do not need or use tight ends. If you are not orange blind, you will realize that this is a very good pickup.
A football Xfer? Should be good.
OSU WR transferring to Portland St. on a full ride ……..
After our #1 QB recruiting target chose Florida St last week, we got our #2, Pencyl
Angie Machado (@AngieMachado1) tweeted at 4:46 PM on Thu, Jun 12, 2014:
Beavs find QB in Land O Lakes, FL gunslinger James Pensyl (@jamespensyl) who just committed to #OregonState and Coach Riley @BeaverBlitz

Apologies for the typo
And bo schnieder went to UCF, not Florida State. Pensyl sounds alot like Mannion. 6’7″ 210 lbs. Self described as “not much of a running qb” with good arm strength/velocity/accuracy. Garret thinks he makes quick decisions too. Otherwise, no other offers yet and no stars on any sites either.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XDo_Rw6HUY
Looks like his throwing motion has a delay in the first half. He doesn’t dip the ball which is nice but his delay could lead to strip-sacks early on. Should be interesting to see what Garrett does with him. Danny didn’t prefer to mess with throwing motions. Small tweaks will help this kid a bunch. Looks like he has good accuracy and arm strength though.
I also like that he’s not a complete statue and can scramble long enough to keep the play alive, and still makes throwing decisions while on the move. He also has the ability to get a few yards on his feet, although in his tape, he’s the biggest player on the field. Will look much different with a Pac-12 linebacker chasing him down.
Agree that he has a hitch in his motion, but looks to be much more mobile than Sean.
I have really enjoyed the last 2 NBA finals games. Love watching the Heat get bent over.
Spurs have bent over every team theyve played and its been beautiful. And the Spurs arent even my team.
Dallas begs to differ with you
True, but the Spurs didn’t really seem to start “trying” until game 6 of the 1st round (when Dallas got their shot at being reamed). After that it’s been a clinic.
This truly might be the best Spurs team from this incredible run of theirs during the Duncan era. When that offense is on and the ball movement is crisp and sharp, there is nothing more beautiful. I picked them to win the series, but I never expected the last two games to play out like they have. They’ve more or less broken Miami’s spirit and beaten the tar out of them. It’s fun watching a well-built team triumph over a group of all-stars.
