  1. PBH #1. I rule.

Big battle tonight to see who has to stay in Las Vegas and play another game. Both teams, especially the players, regardless of what you read, would be happy to shut it down for the year and move on. JB

  2. OK so I’m just walking around the Mirage and I don’t see anyone. I guess I got my weeks mixed up!

Someone said try going to UNLV so I’m getting on a bicycle taxi and hope to be ready for the game. I still got some moves nobody seen yet!!!

Anybody had luck with the bus system in Vegas or if someone can give me a lift that would be great sense I somehow have spent almost all of my money and hope to stay until Saturday for the big pool party.

Hit me up if so. Thanks.

    #blessed

    • I get it. You’re a Duck and you see something hallucinitory. You call it a mirage. The real world calls it the inside of your front curtains… that have never been opened… therefore… you don’t know if they work. And that’s why you post stupid and really boring shit. You just can’t help but be a Duck. It’s in your nature… because you aspire to something more than worm dung. Being a Duck just happened to be on the list you were shown.

We get it. Yay! Go you!.

do I need to say anything else good about them? What? Wait… this is all saved? Do I look like some culty Jesus saving the world? How far back does the save go?

    • Did USC come back and win???? OMFG i walked away after halftime thinking USC was awful. Well, there goes my prediction of ASU beating UCLA. Yeah, I guess they do kind of suck. But, USC beat the beavs too. Think I heard them say USC had 9 losses in conference play by single digits.

      • Stewart went off. He’s a one-trick pony, but Sendek insists on playing zone.

I will give Sendek credit for not crying about playing the second game and not getting more rest before tomorrow’s game simply because his team was the higher seed.

Yes… I’m talking about you, Romar.

  3. Golly ASU… I guess you guys didn’t learn in grade school why you shoot that lay-up with your left hand… like everyone else in the world is taught. It’s just so stupid to offer up that ball toward the middle when you know a big is coming to help. That’s and easy two with the left.

Then again… Sendek was an idiot for not calling TO when they crossed half court with :30 left… then doubly an idiot for not calling one when they were lucky enough to get the first O-board.

We should take note. The refs were calling nothing in the last four minutes… NOTHING.

  4. This will be our closest game of the Tourney. Somehow we will become the Cinderella story and eventually the darlings of the Dance when we’re made to play-in on Tuesday and still manage to make it to the Sweet 16… in the East regional.

Or… this will be our closest game of the Tourney.

    • They’re not calling much today. Wait until crunch time. Felonies will occur, and all you can do is look on in amazement.

I think the Pac is toughening up the league by doing so, but I think they’re behind the swing of the pendulum. This is a 90’s and 00’s thing. Hoops is going back to 80’s ball minus the occasional hits… that would get you tossed for four games nowadays.

  5. Odd watching this team be so powerful on offense and so soft on defense. Team is a lot fresher than usual after a week off, but that defense is getting to me just because CU is getting so many easy looks. Lock up.

    • Yup real weird game…will the defense get better, the offense get worse? At least the last two minutes were kind of a stalemate this time instead of a huge momentum loser like in some of the previous games.

    • yup. Need to stop jacking up 3’s and take the ball to the basket, start playing better D. FT disparity is alarming. But that’s what you get when you settle for jumpers and your opponent attacks the rim

  6. Reid and Payton need to drive more.

Also, I feel like the beavs are blowing too many easy points (2 layups to start the 2nd half, eg), and it will bite them soon. This is game is at the tipping point.

  7. Having GP2 at the top of the zone takes away from our rebounding, because Olaf isn’t strong enough to block their #4 spot

  8. Beavs on the ropes. Layups and lack of discipline defensively the only reasons the Beavers don’t have a comfortable lead. Looking like it’s slipping away

    • Cal game a little more. Lead in second half evaporates when the opposition catches fire from three. If the usual Beavers defense shows up in first half they’re up big at halftime. Tough loss

  9. What the fuck was Reid doing??? Game over. I hate, hate, hate these runs every team goes on against the Beavers away from Gill. It just is what it is at this point.

  10. sorry, i shouldnt have tuned in. got here in time for the last 3 minutes which were all shitty basketball. I’ll turn it off now

  11. This season is closely mirroring football 2013:

Horrible opening loss to lower division opponent: Western Oregon / Eastern Washington
Go on an early season run: 14-0 at Gill, reach 16-7 / win 6 in a row
Late season collapse: lose seven of last 8 / lose 5 of last 6
Lose heartbreaking Civil War: by three points / by one point

    • Thanks for the reminder, dick! I got solo wasted at that civil war game thinking straight shots of Jack Daniels would help the team win!

  12. That’s not a flagrant. No elbows and cheap shots. Ridiculous. Officials missed the call originally and wanted to make up for it

    • Yep, back in the day the official would’ve run by the bench and said, “sorry, I might have missed one” and the game goes on

  13. I’d say this is the worst loss all year.
Tinkle didn’t lose some guys (mentally), huh? Well something has drastically changed. Zero heart/zero effort. And with 7 days rest…

    ;)

    • You know correlation doesn’t equal causation, right?

Plus, wanting your own team to lose just so you can be proven right is kind of low.

      • They just gave up the most points all season to one of the worst teams in the conference.

I’m not sure what your comment even means since I picked the Beavs to win the game, and thought they could even beat Oregon (Reason being they had a lot of rest, easy draw, etc). Proven right? I was proven wrong. What I didn’t factor in was that Tinkle was (a) joking around about the walk-ons leading up to the game and (b) he lost players last week. Forgot all about that and didn’t factor it in enough. Joking around like that before a big game is never a good idea. I thought yesterday’s move was classless. Mocking fans, setting a jokey tone for a big game, etc. Tinkle has been a train wreck the past week.

My lady said “there was something off about the way they played”…and she doesn’t watch much OSU hoops. Yeah, that something was a team not wanting to buy into a 50 something year old coach who is apparently more interested in trolling fans than winning games.

        • If you didn’t want the Beavs to lose, why gloat about it? Why make snide comments about how you’re “right” that Tinkle lost the team mentally? Why put up a post basically trolling everyone who disagreed with you right after the game? Sure seems like you were more concerned about your viewpoints being proven right than the team winning to me.

I’ll admit I didn’t really watch them play tonight, so I don’t know how they looked in terms of body posture. I highly doubt one joke from the head coach destroyed the team’s motivation to play though. If the team’s that mentally weak, we weren’t going to go to the NIT no matter what.

        • Partly why they gave up the most points they have all year, and the beavs also scored the most in the first half than they have in any other conference game, was that they took shots way earlier in the shot clock, and therefore didn’t slow the tempo like they typically do. It was just a really different offensive game for the beavs than they usually played. It didn’t help that the buffs shot really well from the line, the beavs didn’t, and that the beavs got out rebounded and missed several gimmies. There was also the usual fatigue issue at the end of each half and the D becomes softer. Blaming Tinkle for some jokes and assuming he “lost” the team is grasping.

      • And against a horrible team. Just coincidence, though. It had nothing to do with Tinkle making a mockery of everything all week and setting a jokey tone. He was also puffing his chest after the walk-on fiasco and said something to the effect he could do that because they had already exceeded expectations. I really don’t know what got into WT, but he had a horrible week.

        • So you dont allow that the team is getting worn down, and just doesnt have the energy, this last section of the season. No, its gotta be the coaching….lol. That’s not like the astute Angry we often see. Maybe angry is a bit worn down…

  14. This season feels like going to McDonald’s. You enter, expecting nothing but shit sandwiches. To your surprise, you get a 5-course meal! The first three courses are downright gourmet. You hang around, ecstatic, and then you get the last two… and sure enough, there come the shit sandwiches.

Sure the experience was better than expected overall, but you’re still left with a bad taste in your mouth.

  15. FT’s and rebounds. Buffs shot 50% for the game and won the battle 39-26 on the glass. Both teams made 24 FG’s, the Beavs 3 more 3 pointers. Difference, Buffs 24/26 at the line, Beavs 14/22

  16. Stepping back from it all, good job Beavs. Disappointing way to end, but a winning season this particular year plus a win over #7 Arizona is a good accomplishment.

  17. Sorry people. Even though Tinkle ia fine at home, I have doubts about his road ability in coming years. First 62% of the season was good but if honest with myself I believe Howland would have produced simularly and besides one more lucky recruiting year, would have probably brought superior recruits over the next 5 years. Tinkle has weaknesses too despite some strong points. Improved attendance is good but Howland would have had it too. No guarantee this team makes the NIT next year. I’d say its maybe 50-50. Until team learns to win on the road, they gave little room for improvement as far as wins or conference positioning. I’ll acknoledge the season as it really was. A nuce spurt followed by teams adjusting better to us and iften us worse to them. We lost 9 of our last 10 right? The winber’s mentality still has a big hill to climb next year. Here’s hoping to a team with more offensive punch.

    • Umm… You know Colorado shot a ridiculous % from the free throw line tonight??? That’s the first star line I look at in a game. Your selling the Beavers short here. Next year will be better.

    • Howland would have brought instant sanctions and rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, as he is wont to do. GP2 likely would have gone somewhere else, and then you get what’s left to play a whole season.

I’m not quite sure why you think you know anything abut hoops. This team will be at least five wins better next year. They will be three or four conference wins better.

I sort of pity you and your stuck-in-the-what-if mentality.

  18. How is that even possible to review and make a call for a foul after a play and points were made? No whistle means it didn’t happen. The guy flopped anyways. There are many time during the course of a game that could be reviewed post fact. I’m all for getting things right but a no call/no whistle should not be reviewable.

  19. Disappointing end to the season, and very odd end too. First with the Civil War walk on starts (which I am more than OK with) then the interesting loss to CU, especially since we’re known as a good defensive team. CU hit a ton of free throws and beasted on the boards. Do that and you’re good. 1-7 to close out the season for us.

Tinkle has some chinks in his armor. I think he’s a great coach, and the wins will come to fruition in this 2015-16 year. I’m setting expectations at 12 Pac-12 wins next year. But like I said, he’s not perfect. We sputtered at the end of the year, there are scoring droughts sometimes, and we don’t respond to runs by the other team well. We end halves poorly. No road game. I hope these are addressed. I can guarantee he’ll put in the time to improve just like the players.

As of now, shut it down, get some rest, and good job Beavs this year! I truly appreciated this year of basketball and I look forward to November when they’ll be back at it. I know the current players are gonna be hard at work this summer because of the hotshot freshmen that want PT. Fun times on the horizon.

    • I listened to last night’s game intermittently – wanting to avoid Bill Walton’s nonsense and Mike Parker’s tangents, I listened to the Colorado radio announcers. They called the game from Colorado’s viewpoint, of course, but had praise for the Beavs. They noted that Shaftenaar can only shoot 3s if his feet are really set. Early on, I thought the coaches, especially Rupp, were going to try to use Olaf more in the paint, so I’m disappointed that didn’t seem to work out.

    • You do realize that all the weaknesses you pointed out for the back end of the season were our strengths for the front end and when we had some modicum of depth.

  20. Time to look forward to next year.

My prediction of the starting lineup and avg min –
    G – Payton II – 30min
    PG – Duvivier – 25min
    SG – Thompson – 25min
    SF – Tinkle – 25min
    F/C – Gomis – 20min

    Rotation – in this order
    SG- LMW – 20min
    F – Reid – 20min
    SF – Olaf – 15min
    PG – Bruce – 15min
    C – Eubanks – 3min
    C – Rakocevic – 2min
    C – N’Diaye – 0min
F – Robbins – If Tinkle is going to keep him, I would redshirt him.

If the team can maintain the defensive identity, I think they finish +500 in the league. This team will suddenly have a lot more depth. I think Tinkle and Thompson’s minutes will be limited early so they can get acclimated and then extended once conference play starts. Hard to see the young bigs get a lot of minutes. Neither is a dominant player in HS.

I think Thompson will be the star freshman.

  21. Look to the future

    http://www.examiner.com/article/knights-win-cif-ss-open-crown-top-seed-regionals

Stephen Thompson Jr, has led his team to a section title and will compete for the CA open title as the overall #1 seed(I have no idea how CA hs bball works). His team is ranked top 25 in the nation and won a state title last year.

Tres Tinkle’s team is the top ranked team in Montana going into the playoffs.

These guys aren’t going to bring AAU attitudes next year, they’ll bring win championships attitude.

  22. So goodbye to Sanders, Livesay, Dahlen, Roth, Hedgecock, Stangel, & Boswell (I suppose they can walk on next year and make the practice team).

Thanks for everything you did for this year’s team!

  23. Oregon State coach Wayne Tinkle was asked Monday, as the Beavers were preparing in Corvallis for the Pac-12 tournament, if his team would be interested in playing beyond their stay in Las Vegas if it wasn’t the NCAA or NIT that had room.

Tinkle said then it wasn’t likely, given how worn down his short rotation has become, which he’s mentioned numerous times in recent weeks.

Tinkle was asked again in the postgame press conference Wednesday after a 78-71 loss to Colorado and a few minutes later in the OSU locker room.

“We’ll take some time to think about it,” he said in the press conference. “Those are all great tournaments. But I’m a little concerned, to be honest, about our guys and the numbers that we have and our bodies right now. But we’ll take some time and certainly entertain, because those are all great events. But it’s something we’ll have to think about.”

Maybe he didn’t want to make a rash decision, or give the impression that it was one.

But on my way out of the locker room he shook my hand, patted me on the shoulder and said, “it’s been a great year.”

    • I’m thinking that given the fact that they are no seniors on the team, it makes it easier to say no to a CBI bid in addition to the depth concerns. The being tired excuse is a little funny considering that if they were winning now they would be playing a schedule that was more demanding then anything the CBI would throw at them. It’s not like they would say no to more P-12 tourney games or a NCAA bid. Coaches just can’t come out and say the CBI is a weird little tournament full of also rans, but it’s what some of them want to say.

      • Last night was just a game where Tinks let the team play. They weren’t going to try and grind it out. They just let loose and let happen what may. It’s possible we could have given that effort for 30 minutes then again just lose our legs and watch CU pummel us down the stretch. But that’s no way to end a season.

In the end, only four teams in the country end their season with a win… well… except for maybe a couple Ivy League teams.

  24. I think many, myself included, saw this team running out of gas at the end of the season 1-7 finish. It was hard not to get swept up in thought that this team might be able to make a magical run and get into a major tourney. It didn’t happen, but there is much to be excited about.

What the team lacked going down the stretch was some leadership, I was hoping that would come from GP2 but it didn’t. We need a guy on the team that will be able to score at times to stop other teams runs and regain the momentum. I would like to see him slash to the paint and put up a free throw distance jumper. He made one or two last night and I was thinking we need more of that.

The current players have some limits to their games. Gomis’s hands need to be better, Olaf needs to provide more help on the boards, and LMW needs to play more consistently on both ends.

But I do like what I see in their development. Gomis has made strides and Duvivier has grown as a player. I like N’Daye he is raw, but he has a nice touch close in. He just needs to cut down on his fouls. What the team needs is penetrating point guard who can distribute the ball.

I look forward to next season.

  25. A “walk on” is a guy with a chip on his shoulder that thinks he is as good as the privileged scholarship guys and wants to prove it. The bulk of the Beaver backups are not actually “walk ons” ,but more like draftees that were enlisted after an all hands on deck call to save a sinking ship. This is a subtle but important distinction. The 28 seconds of fame reward was totally appropriate for the draftees. But the spin of starting five “walk ons” is only technically accurate…and cannot be repeated.

  26. sounds like Vanderveen was practicing with the H-backs today. probably needs to pack on the lbs. this off season. Wonder if this is how they’ll plan to use Tuli Wily-Matagi when he gets to campus too? Beavs could have the H-back option in their arsenal this year.

  27. BG, saw you guys out-recruited Ohio State and Oregon on this one. Go rodents. I think you made Andrew Nemec cry actually…

Andrew Nemec ?@AndrewNemec 24m24 minutes ago
4* LB Carter Coughlin (@Cmoe34) commits to Minnesota Gophers over Oregon Ducks, Ohio State Buckeyes

    • Thanks. This is a huge get, but as a true rodent I was prepaired for the worst. His dad was a football player, his mom a tennis player, and his grandfather an ex AD at the U of M. So if we couldn’t get him it would have been really disappointing. So glad he is not going to be a quack. Oregon has a committ from a 4 star QB, Seth Green, from one of the eastern burbs here. Having them poach another from here would have made me sick. There is a third elite player from in state, a DT, and he has already committed. Pretty pumped!

  28. BASEBALL: Any of you degenerates (love that that term was introduced by ?? Whiskey? BG?..??) paying the freight at D1 Baseball? Looks like they have a story on “raising profiles” which includes the Beavs.

  29. The Montana pipeline….

Parker Bernhardt ?@ParkerBernhardt 30m30 minutes ago
Just got an offer from Coach Tinkle to hoop it up at Oregon State. Asked if I could rebound.

I can’t even find much on this kid other than he plays football too.

  30. Gina up with a Thursday practice report. (remember to set Ghostery to allow only Livefyre).
    -Vanderveen working as TE???
-How about Andersen calling on Peko for the fair catch fun-n-games; and Peko catching w/o using his body……….must be the yoga.

You can tell Gina isn’t too crazy about the limited access (including offensive players being off-limits on Thursday). From her report, I’m not worried about the fair catch thing evolving into some sort of slip-n-slide.

EDIT-ADD: Horowitz with more in depth about Peko and a good quote from Justin Strong.

  31. BASEBALL: Important game in an important series tonight at 6:30, on OSU Stream. A chance to break into the top 25 (not that that matters at this stage of the season).
    GO ANDREW and bats!

  32. FYI, for those of you who might be thinking about taking in practice on Saturday…

Beavers Football ?@OSUBeaversFB 20s20 seconds ago

Sat’s practice may be in Truax due to weather — prohibits us from opening to the public. We will update in the morning. Thank you. #gobeavs
