  1. Baseball team is looking good. It’s great to know that we have an excellent coach who won’t let inexperience completely ground a program even in what could be seen as a down year.

Sorry if this is too off-topic, but I am so overjoyed with the decisiveness of Andersen. Having seen Riley waffle on quarterbacks well into the season (2012 anyone?), I can’t begin to explain the excitement of him narrowing it to three, having Baldwin identify that they were clearly ahead of the others, and politely showing the rest the door. It adds a further intrigue into the Spring that we haven’t had before.

    • Decisive leadership and excitement sound like neat deals :-D

You know what they say: If you have seven quarterbacks, you really have none

      • Scotty, that’s 3 smiley faces that you’ve already used in this thread. You’ve hit your weekly max for emojis on this site, and it’s only Tuesday. Gotta pace yourself.

  2. That HBP racked up by Hendrix in the 3rd looked brutal. Close to the side of the knee, eventhough Jay R said foot.
Good to see him moving OK later that inning, bears watching when he comes up in b4.

  3. Hendrix leg/knee looked fine running from 3 to H. Now 8-2 good guys.

EDIT: And then, in the 5th Hendrix looks good trying to beat out the bunt, I’m not gonna worry about that knee anymore.

  4. That high throw by Morrison was pretty unusual for him. As Jim Wilson recently said, you don’t have to worry about his throws. Nice stretch by Harrison to make the out.

And then a nice dig out by Harrison to end the inning.

Is Tinkle starting the walkons again for the Pac12 tourney?
Mark Massari ?@BennysGotMyBack 39m39 minutes ago
@waynetinkle lets the 5 OSU starters for tomm first round @Pac12Networks game #Commit2MakingDreamsComeTrue

This is not a good idea.

    • That can’t be true. Is Tinkle just trying to stick it to critics of the move? Or if they win somehow vindicate the move? Or is he just obsessed with being Riley? I don’t understand. It’s a mockery at this point.

          • How does it not hurt their chances of winning? Because it’s CO? So having no respect for the opponent is the new motto? That’s great, too. /sarc

We just saw how that turned out for the women.

          • So, if Oregon State started them, won the opening tip, took a timeout and put the the regulars back in that impacts the game? Glad to see you’re not blowing things completely out of proportion

    • I can only guess its ego, and that he wants another chance to prove he can do it right this time?
Still it makes no sense, it just seems desperate. I don’t agree with the move.

This most likely should have been the plan from the start, and not start them on CW. But don’t make two mistakes for the sake of your ego?

      • Couple thoughts:
-maybe tinks thinks with a plan and practice the W/O’s can do better.
-this is the kind of thing you do (if at all) on your HOME floor, not on a neutral site,
-if this is true it has to be an indication that Massari/Tinkle have gotten positive feedback on this “feelgood” story.

        IMHO, victories are more “feelgood”.

    • once was fine. Now? Dumb. If you lose this game your season is potentially over. Didn’t mind it on “senior day”, don’t like doing it again in a win or go home scenario. Boneheaded move would be an understatement

    • Wait. What? I hope he has a heck of a play drawn up! Is it an attempt to give them a chance for redemption for the (frankly horrible) play they exhibited in the Oregon game?

*hears the sound of gum-chewing somewhere*

      • Maybe it’s a joke. I can’t believe he’s start those guys again. If he does, he’s Riley 2.0.

Either way, it doesn’t look like they’re taking this tournament very seriously.

        • maybe he’s showing the players that they can be relaxed, loose and have fun while still maintaining a business like approach

          • It’s very Wayne Tinkle. Nobody wants to win more than he does but he also wants to have fun. It’s the way sports should be

        • I wish to hell you would quit with the Tinkle/Riley comments. Tinkle would have to seriously crash to actually be on a par with that late career Riley and he sure as hell didnt do that this year. I find your comments really insulting to Tinkle.

          • You keep puttng Tinkle and Riley in the same sentence. At this point in the game, that is a totally unfair association — dont mince words with me. I didnt like Tinkle starting the walkons, but that doesnt make him a Riley. It might not even have been a mistake, as team motivation is a complex issue, and the coach MIGHT have the manipulation of that motivation in hand better than you.

On the other side, you have already associated Tinkle with Riley when Tinkle has overall done a fantastic job. If Tinkle goes in the toilet in the coming year, what ya gonna do for an insulting reference?? Yer gonna be speechless … lol.

          • A coach starting walk-ons because it’s a feel good story is Rileyesque. That’s why I wrote IF he is doing it again he’s Rileyesque, because we then have a pattern instead of a one of thing. The logic/deduction there is that if he is not doing starting 5 walkons again, then we still have a one time event, and can’t conclude he’s Riley-esque. If you can’t accept that it’s a you problem. Don’t dare tell me there’s zero Riley in this man after he started 5 walk-ons because it was a neat thing to do. The only question is how much, and so far it’s a little, but a little is too much.

  6. Those pesky Anteaters may tonight join Angry’s Gauchos in the very exclusive “we beat SC” group.

Next weekend, with the opening of PAC12 play for the Beavs will be interesting. So far, against the level of competition we’ve seen this team is a pleasant surprise. If I heard correctly, Jim Wilson said they can get to Omaha by winning under 2/3 of their remaining games.

    • Front end of the rotation and offense have the talent to make a run deep in the postseason but lack of pitching depth is a big question mark. Heimlich has pitched better lately but a lot of the bullpen arms have been underwhelming. Andrew Moore is very good and Rasmussen has been very solid, beyond those two it’s a lot of questions. Ultimately I think the lack of reliable bullpen arms costs them some games and they finish third in the Pac-12.

      • If the Beavs finish 3rd (and I think they can) they’ll go to Omaha having gained a lot of experience during the regular season. Omaha?…….all about peaking at the right time, anything is possible.

In addition to your points about front end of rotation and offense, Logan Ice and the D in general are strengths (even with the 3-4 error game over the weekend).

    • are you doing drunken donuts in the parking lot? I assume that’s what you mean by rotation since you didn’t travel with the team to Las Vegas

      #PoorTroll

    • LOL

If it gets much more traction, Tinkle’s gonna have to actually do it! Or… maybe that’s what he wants to do but is making it look like his hand is forced! Oh the intrigue!

      • the walk ons aren’t starting. But I’m sure the team went to bed tonight after having a good chuckle at our expense. Can’t wait for the post game press conference tomorrow for someone to ask the question!

  7. Beavs lead the nation in HRs. #13 in batting average. #20 in OBP. # in runs scored. #1 in slugging pct.

We’ll see what happens in conference play but nice to see the offense doing some good things early on. Pitching seems to have settled down even though sometimes it takes the entire staff to get through one game.

Good sign that some of the freshman have stepped up. Harrison and Donahue have adjusted nicely to the cooler weather. Rasmussen, Heimlich and Tweedt should steady the rotation for the next couple years.

Clark’s been a nice surprise as have the jc transfers, Eckart, and Nobuch. Casey has used every pitcher on the roster. That’s not something he usually does.

Disappointed that Cary has yet to make an impact. He was probably tied with Harrison for talent in his class. Casey’s giving him chances but I don’t think he’ll get much more in conference play.

  8. Jim Wilson on the HR numbers put up by the Beavs so far:

“Flat seam balls explain why OSU already hit as many HR’s (21) as ’14. Good hitting accounts for Beavers leading country in HR & Slugging %”

I caught a 1240am only pre-pre-game show recently where the host was pointing out the same thing. Other teams are, indeed, showing an increase in HR’s, but not at the rate achieved by the good guys.

    • I don’t think it’s just that. It’s the size of the guys too. Harrison, Clark and Hendrix are all at 200 or above. If you look at all the top HR hitters in the MLB, they are all well over 200pds.

      • Yeah, Clark especially looks BIG.
Nobach, Morrison, and Donahue all doing a nice job, and all at less than 180 lbs. Need guys like this to get on base for the 200 lb boppers.
Gretler is just above Cary in BA, but Gretler has really shown good BB IQ on the basepaths and in the field.
Really need to see how the team does vs PAC12 competition, right now it seems like one or two guys going into a slump wouldn’t effect the team the way slumps at the end of last season did.

      • Don’t forget Billy King. Right now he just looks like a hitter but I think he’ll come around. I noticed on Tuesday though that after he popped out with RISP and one out he didn’t get another AB.
