“We get about two weeks leading into a four week training camp, so these next two weeks will be [spent] in the weight room and a few skill developments and walkthroughs which we will do a few times this week and then the following week,” Smith said. “Our bylaws say you get 29 days before your first game to do 25 practices, which is the same as last August. Really the only difference for us now is managing school being in.”
I’m worried about dline play without whittley. We only have a few guys pushing 300. That said I’m very excited about our DE, LB and CB. Offense should be fire.
The offense is still a question mark to me. With a mostly new OL, there are going to be some growing pains and we don’t have any non-conference games to warm up with.
Defense is a concern with DL looking weak, but maybe the 3-4 and strong LB corps can offset that?
ST will be a bit of a wild card with a new punter, but at least we have Everett “the XP Specialist” Hayes back.
The mood on here is weirdly optimistic compared to the reality of our lineup. We’ve gone from Angry under Riley to hopeful under Smith. Time for a name change? hopefulbeavs.com?
The confusing/changing mission and constant funding battles have always killed motivation there. ITs hard to go hard all day when your project could be scrapped as a political football.
Six degrees of separation.
My brother went to my cousin’s son’s wedding in MT. At the reception he sits at the bar with an uncle of the bride. Turns out the guy is the father of Dwan Edwards. So my cousins kid married Dwan Edwards first cousin. My brother said his dad was awesome and he had a great time talking CFB.
yeah, I’m becoming a landsman. Of course, just when I get interested in RV’s, Covid hits and demand goes sky high. My version of Luck of the Beavs. You timed it well.
You can ask my lady, but I told her in 2014 RVs are the next huge trend (mainly due to FED printing $ and making homes unaffordable). People would have to move to their vehicles as multi-purpose and use it as a home. At the time RVs were getting killed. Also predicted in ’12 the migration from coastal States to South and Midwest.
As of now, Smith is not aware of any Oregon State players who might opt out of playing this season.
“Now that this thing is set, that will be something that will be good to find out,” Smith said. “But those are going to be personal decisions for guys and we’ll see where it goes.”
Wonder who we lose to this. If everyone returns, I think we win the North. Mostly b/c of Gebbia’s ability as a player and leader, but we seem the most complete since 2006 as of today. We’ll probably have 90% of guys opt-op since it’s the Beavs and 2020.
Rashed has to play this year if he wants to improve his draft stock. Mid round pick right now but could be a fringe 1st round or 2nd round pick if he has another big year.
Stanford is off the schedule already right? SO we have an additional south team to schedule?
Utah and ASU likely
Ducks get UA and CU?….”and Uncle Phil looked surprised when that schedule came out…”
Ole Miss/Florida is on currently. Ole Miss under Kiffin might end up being a pretty fun team to watch. Not a traditional SEC offense. They’re throwing 2 QBs out there together and it’s working pretty well vs a talented Florida defense. They’re also up tempo, so the game is moving along at an entertaining clip.
Florida will likely win, but Ole Miss won’t be boring.
Also, the starting QB for Florida, Trask, throws a nice looking ball.
Indeed. Costello just put them ahead with a nice ball. Missing out on Leach when he was available in ’10 & ’11 was a huge missed opportunity for OSU. A lost decade.
Had the pleasure of listening to Coach Snyder at a coaches conference several years ago. 1 hour was not near enough time. He was an old school gentleman that left the impression that he was, without trying to show it, the smartest guy in the room of 300 or more. Probably the best I ever heard.
I’m optimistic this year because we usually have so
Many question marks and thin position groups. Seems like there are fewer questions marks and some good depth at most spots. That’s beaver fan thinking for ya right there! We’re going to the cfp!!!!!
say, can anyone remember what happened to those QB’s GA recruited and flipped to other schools? I’m not referring to the Riley hold overs like Kempt, but recruits who had made a commitment to OSU, or were a solid lean, but in the end went elsewhere. I seem to recall one went to the mid west and another to Colorado
There was that tall kid who ended up at Iowa, Spencer Petras. He’s only thrown about 10-15 total pass attempts in his 2 years there.
Not sure who the Colorado guy would be.
I agree with you BiOH. This is our best QB package since Canfield/Moevo. But with guys like Petras one’s mind always wanders to “what might have been.”
thanks for the flash back. I remembered you recommending him as head coach but that was probably a bridge too far what with OSU’ love affair with Riley. He might not have taken an OC position though because he was doing okay on satellite radio on Jack Arute’s old show. I mean, I knew of Leach as a coach before that, but his dry but hilarious persona just gleamed on that show. Oddly enough, I think WSU might have struck gold twice in a row with Rolovich. He’s quite a character too. Question for you Corvallis guys: could a Mike Leach or Rolovich actually fit in Corvallis? I don’t really know the town, just visit for football and baseball games.
Yeah but if you’re dating a hot chick, do you ask “how long will I be with her?” or “in this obviously limited time with her, is this not the greatest thing ever?”………….
good point. But Pullman is far enough off the beaten path that Leach played it into a cool advantage. My sense is that Corvallis, a nice town to be sure, couldn’t cope with the self-deprecation necessary to get away with that.
After watching a few games today and looking at scores from other games. I’ve come to realize a few things that all revolve around home field advantage.
1. Home field advantage is huge with crowd noise. Take that away and all the games are a lot closer.
2. The talent gap isn’t as big as everyone says it is.See all the upsets today with the crowds being a non factor.
3. It is kinda sucky to watch this shit without the crowds
Here’s a theory that I’m about to discard: With COVID restrictions the home team has the advantage of being in familiar (for the times) environs. Not just for the game itself but home cookin’ and such.
Doesn’t seem to be panning out that way, but too many other factors to be certain.
Not to brag but after the disastrous first two weeks of pick em, I flipped my thinking around and this week I considered the home field would be a non-factor — picked more “away” teams than I usually would. It’s paid off so far, currently tied for first for the week’s total. Crazy season!
You need to spend more than 5 secs….I sent you some links in the last thread to help you out, assuming if you have the 15 minutes to digest to make educated picks.
Yes you can say so for me since I had never done a pick em before. Funny thing in the first week I didn’t realize I had to get the spread too, I was confused when I picked the right winning team but didn’t get the point(s). You guys better watch out!!!! Just kidding, this is my moment in the sun, I’m sure I’ll get back to the mean next week LOL
Regarding Leach, I don’t remember……was he ever under consideration for the job? Am I remembering correctly, a dismissive statement from BDC when asked if the pirate was on the list?
immediately after he was fired by TT, no, because Riley, even after that crushing loss in the 2009 Civil War was at the apex of his allure. But Leach lingered on the market for another year more and after Riley’s disastrous 2010 season, when he fell into the depression Angry described, that’s when a reach out as an OC could have been made. It’s what Bellotti would have done, but then, that’s in Eugene. In truth, I doubt Leach would have taken an assistant position; that would cut against the piratical persona he built for himself. But as Angry said back then, it doesn’t hurt to let the mind wander on occasion
The 2009 depression was after the second War of the Roses and subsequent Nevada bowl game. He looked AWFUL after that BYU game. I knew it was over for him.
Oregon state was mentioned in espn article today referring to the pac12 being back and we don’t have to wait four years like the photographer did that took the pic of the beaver.
watching Buffalo’s collapse (having, at this writing, blown a 25 point lead) against the Rams, I’m reminded of the old saying in hockey that a two-goal lead is the most dangerous one. The illusion of having a margin to work with plays with the mind causing a lack of focus. The football analogy, I suppose, is the 14 point lead, and I can distinctly remember two games vs. Boise State when the Beavs choked up leads of that size. Not that we’ve had that many lately, but as a Beav fan I was never comfortable with less than a 17 point point lead, and preferably one of 25 or, as Buffalo proved today, more.
another case in point. Matt Ryan (has there ever been any QB more over rated than this guy) chokes up another big (16 point) 4th quarter lead. Nick Foles comes on in relief to lead the Bears comeback. Quite some time ago Angry wrote about the “it” factor. Foles has it; Ryan doesn’t. How many remember when Foles came into Reser as a first time starter and routed the Beavs?
For guys like Ryan they are good enough to win you a SB. The problem with guys like him that are middle of the pack is you still have to pay them top twice money which hurts your roster in other spots. IMO very few QBs are worth a ton of money. Way better off with paying for a pro bowl DT and having Cam be your QB on a value bin deal.
Saw an article online this morning speculating that it could mean Artavis Pierce could get added to the active roster and get Cohen’s touches given their similar styles.
Cohen operated out of the slot a fair bit and flexed out also. Montgomery isn’t a terrible all around back. Patterson probably can most replicate what Cohen does with the offense. I bet Montgomery becomes a 3 down back with Nall and Pierce being subbed in or give a series here and there.
We’re entering that time of the year where Oregon State’s late Fall term start date helps them attract transfers who maybe arent happy where they started the year. Not sure how Covid will affect everything this year though.
One guy I’ve got my eye on is a safety from Boise State, Jordan Happle. Went to HS at Jesuit in Beaverton and would have crossed paths with several of our current players.
Nice Beaver,
It might be a big ask, can you give us an up to date recruiting breakdown for football? Maybe nothing has really changed since your last one… but, I’m not sure I could even find it again in the archives.
It’s a beautiful design and I have many contacts in NuScale. It’s scaleable, extremely safe and provides pretty good power. People will still be against it which will stunt it’s total impact. Uranium mining is a problem too. For.this to be an actually good idea we need to reprocess our spent fuel.
Some quick research reveals most of the world’s largest mines are in-situ now. In the western world, there’s probably no other way to go because of the opposition to open pits, and the optics of in-situ are way better. It may generate concerns over wastewater but every mining operation does.
Honest question: what are the costs of reprocessing? I know UO3 prices are still pretty close to all-time lows and producers are shutting in production.
Really hard question to answer. France finds it cheaper to reprocess than to import uranium and reporcess it. The answer is probably that its worth it if you have the facilities already, if you don’t its probably cheaper to have someone else do it for you and pay huge fees or go mine it. Many of the numbers are classified or held in secret for so many years, theres no open market on reprocessing. In my mind it eliminates most waste storage costs and mining/environmental costs. If you look at it from that perspective the cost benefit is insane. We have spent 100’s of billions now on waste disposal and the grand result is casks in parking lots.
Most of the worlds uranium is actually mined outside of the west. Canada and Australia would be the largest for ‘1st world’ but Kazakhstan does over 40% of the worlds uranium mining. China and Russian do a good amount. Going off of memory Namibia, Niger, Uzbekistan and Ukraine all produce 2X-10X what the states do. I would say that 70% of the worlds uranium mining is done in places that don’t care about safety/environment or atleast have a terrible history of it.
About 25% of production is in the west (Canada/Australia). 40% is Kazakhstan. Almost all production in that 65% is in-situ. I believed it’s the favored method now because it’s actually the most cost-effective. You don’t have to move or process massive quantities of earth.
Yup they hate any unstable particles typically. Thorium is a good option if you have good deposits. Most of the know supply is in india which is why they have been building thorium reactors.
An obviously too-early CBS 2021 NFL Draft speculation has Chicago taking Rashed Jr. RD 1, # 17, as a “really exciting player that offers a lit if pass rush potential.”
Angry, they project the Jets to draft QB Trevor Lawerence at #1….boy the Jets are woeful….
Pierce gets added to the Bears active roster. Apparently Nall was already on it? NFL scour says of Pierce “he’s more quick than fast. I’ve never really seen the speed.”
He clearly didn’t see AP outrun the entire Ohio State secondary!
Excited to have Football back, all be in a limited capacity. My only problem with this entire season is that no matter what happens, there will always be a giant asterisk in the books. If the Beavs have a great season, it will be kind of empty and meaningless. If we finally get that .500 + season and beat the Ducks in the Civil War (I mean the Oregon State Squabble), it will never be recognized as a legitimate season. You know the Ducks Fan’s will jump all over that. GO BEAVS!!
Caught a little talk radio today, there are gonna be a lot of commentators/fans with egg on their face when the Beavs whip the ucks this season.
Lots of opinions on how the PAC should schedule so as to have a 7-0 uck or trojan team with a chance to get into the CFP. Assumptions being made that the only possible contenders for the CFP are: ucks, SC, Utah, UW, ASU, and maybe Cal.
Beavs are certain to go head to head with three of those teams, I’m betting they’ll beat at least two of them. Sure the season will have an asterisk but that may serve as a chip on the shoulder for Fall of ’21.
GO BEAVS!
I just happened to catch a replay of last year’s game against UCLA and I forgot how we kicked their ass. I know Chip is still trying to work his magic but I kind of forgot how far we have come. I just hope the hiccup during the season doesn’t slow that progress. I know that Coach Smith hasn’t let up during this time. I think we will have one of the best physically ready teams in the Pac. As Angry Beaver said, all the Teams are playing under the same guidelines. So why not the Beavs?
Couldn’t agree more. Dude is a disgrace. Didn’t mind him before 16’ personally. Didn’t vote as I didn’t like either, but man it is the most annoying thing in my life right now.
That’s saying a lot with a pandemic, killer bees, riots and smoke filled air. Just need the leader of the country to shut the hell up and do his job. That is all I want
There’s so much optimism for the Beavs heading into this season. I agree there’s a lot to like with this team, but no one is addressing key facts:
-This was a bottom quartile defense last year, even with the great LB corps we have. I keep seeing “they were so much better later in the season,” but the YPG numbers from our final 4 games were nearly identical to the early part of the season. There’s no reason to believe DL will be significantly improved outside of hoping the existing guys get better and maybe Shippen will be a difference maker. The big wild card is DB where we’ll have a mostly different unit, hopefully with some upgrades. Even Morris is a question mark at this point due to his injury history.
-This is our projected OL: Kipper-Sorensen-Eldridge-Keobounnam-Gray/Levengood. Every single one of those guys is a question mark. I don’t care how good your QB and RB are; if there’s no blocking, you’re not going to generate much offense.
The media has every right to be unconvinced by this team. They could be really good, there’s just no strong reason for thinking that’s the case yet.
1) I think the improvement on D was the scheme change to bend but don’t break and improvement in the secondary. LBs were good all year but that doesn’t matter if you just throw over them. DLine is a huge question mark. Ppg doesn’t mean a ton in the P12. I remember doing a comparison where I looked at ppg by opponents vs all opponents and it was favorable in the second half of the season except arizona and I think wsu. Ypg was also okay. Compared to 2018 it was a massive shift.
2) Excellent point. Line play in general is a question. I think we have the bodies on the OLine but not experience. DLine is the opposite.
Nope. Final 4 games PPG allowed was almost exactly the same as full year PPG allowed (slightly higher by .2 points). The only thing that improved toward the end of the year was TO’s.
Our defense was BAD. They were just bailed out by having a good offense and playing opponents with arguably even worse defense (WSU, ASU, etc.)
You guys are letting a few things obscure reality: the defense was better than the previous year’s historically bad D; all of Rashed’s sacks and positive press; the reputation Tibesar has from Wisconsin.
All good points but there are two teams in any contest.
A fair degree of my optimism is my opinion that few opponents will match the continuity of our team (both coaches and players with time in the same system). My bottom line: Beavs are on the upswing and several opponents are not, they’re in rebuilding mode.
Dline is certainly a concern. We lost Aydon last year, and Whittley is a significant blow.
LB and DB should both be somewhere between better and much better than last year, though. It’s a young unit with very few significant losses from last year. Rivals ranked us as the #2 LB corps in CFB, and I wouldn’t disagree with that.
As for the DBs, we just added a development year across the board. Morris should be healthy. We have some new players who may be able to contribute. Nashon Wright was clearly the most improved player of the defense (if not the team) last year, and should play a lot better out of the gates this year. It’s a question mark, but there’s definite upside there and I think the floor is a lot better than what we saw last year. DBs were a major liability in 2019.
For those that are talking about improvement throughout the season, I think the impact of that was skewed by Hamilcar’s injury. Once he broke his hand and put the club on, he was mostly neutralized and became only an average player. I think many players (including the DBs) did improve throughout the season, but Hamilcar’s injury significantly impacted our pass rush and made the end result look like there wasn’t a lot of change.
If you have a great pass rush and decent coverage skills, you should perform pretty well. We had a great pass rush last year – the main Q is whether or not we can replace Aydon. If we can, then we just need to get to “servicable” in coverage. Which I think is very doable.
I disagree I think there are a lot of reasons to think this D will be better. On the d line there is the return of reichner, rawls and sandberg healthy and another year in the system, the young guys developing their bodies to contribute to depth, and of course shippen. The addition of gumbs and hughes murray at lb as well as colletto with a whole year at the position. In the secondary they went through a lot of growing pains with the young players they will be better. Wright came a long way throughout the season and his brother and cousin are supposed to be better. Plus the two other jc guys. Add on a healthy moran and morris and there is a lot to be excited about there. On offense I’m not too worried about the o line. I think you’ve got the starters wrong I would say kipper, lutu clarke, eldridge, keobunamm, gray. The one thing I worry about is tackle opposite kipper and then depth. Tight end I think is better with quitoriano and Musgrave. Wr you lose Hodgins but gain overall depth and speed. Rb should remain about the same and deep. Qb has better depth and mobility. The biggest thing I think will be turnovers. They did an amazing job of taking care of the football last year I think one of the tops in the nation. Can they do that again? That kept this team competitive in a lot of games. Ad far as special teams goes can’t do worse than choukair. That alone could add a couple wins.
I deleted the political comments. Everyone seemed worked up last night. If you want to talk about that go in the prior thread. Let’s keep it on da’ Beavs today.
Damn you Angry! I had a 13-page treatise I was going to post on Manifest Destiny as it relates to the post-modern era vis-a-vis secular colonialism. I guess it will have to wait.
I don’t really look much at PPG because there are other confounding factors there (field position, decision-making vzv score, clock time, etc.). I like YPG better.
While I don’t agree that they were bend but not break last year, they will be better this year. Mostly due to being in the system for another year. How much though is the big question.
The first year, they guys were executing the scheme and in the right spots but didn’t make the play. Year 2 they started making plays but not consistently. LBs led in tackles vs safetys in year 1. Year 3 hopefully takes another step forward. Tibs will need to be more creative on third down.
The ground ball was a tough one. I think it hit the lip of the outfield, but he does need to clean up his fielding. He had 4 errors with limited playing time in the regular season also.
Yeah, someone recommended that place to me on here and I checked it out in August. Pretty good pizza. Not super filling, but high quality ingredients and wood fired. Outdoor back patio seating was a nice option too.
From the Small World file:
Brent Brennan (always seemed to be a good guy) takes his SJSU squad 300 miles to practice due to the Santa Clara County COVID rules. They’ll practice at Humboldt Sate in Arcata.
I think so. He’d look much better if he started on a team with decent talent. Might be a guy who just needs a change of scenery. Or could be Josh Rosen and just not be good.
The great comeback, strongest corona-bro ever, ‘never phased me,’ told you this was just like the flu, sympathy vote, people willing to vote red thinking it’s biggest liability may be gone, won’t have to face the other guy in another debate, won’t have to face questions about possible legal issues before the election…
That basically the spin I see this morning from his side. I am always fascinated with the PR side of politics since it’s so similar to pro wrestling storylines. When he comes out of it, he’ll say “See, it was nothing. Go about your regular life and lift all restrictions.” and Dems have to give well wishes even though they don’t want to.
In the end, I think doesn’t change anything. Another story will consume everyone the week before the election. I mean there were tax returns, tape recordings and the debate just in the last few weeks and those mean nothing now.
There is only 1 man on this earth who can debate while fighting off the Covid. Will he have to debate in a bubble? I’m thinking like an incubator type deal similar to the one used on Austin Powers when they were trying to preserve him.
To his credit, the early symptoms of the disease(lethargy and fatigue) didn’t slow him down much. Despite knowing one of his top staff was already positive yesterday morning and showing symptoms himself, he was still able to power through and meet with several wealthy donors in person and hold in person meetings key members of his staff and government. Very few people could power through like that.
Unfortunately for him, that’s just day 1 of about 14, and the symptoms do get worse before they improve.
Some good news in 2020: AC/DC released a snippet of a bluesy, Stiff-Upper-Lip-like track the other day. Album likely soon. I won’t expect much in terms of lyric writing effort, but still love the tone they get with their guitar and amp set ups.
I hear the clip you’re talking about. Sounds about right for them. Will have to check it out when it drops.
How many of the original members are still around?
Also, for someone who only owns a few of their albums, what are some of the must haves? I have Razors Edge, Hwy to Hell, Dirty Deeds, Who Made Who, Back in Black and the ’92 Live album
Apparently, the guitar work is taken from tracks Malcolm and Angus Young did years ago, and will include some recordings of Malcolm Young’s playing, and/or will be based on his recordings. Stevie Young (their nephew) will be playing rhythm guitar on this album. So, if its work they decided NOT to use years ago, it may sound like a bunch of b sides or throwaways. There will likely be a few decent+ guitar tracks in there, and likely their last album, until Angus Young finally dies and his family/estate starts to release previously unreleased material. But Malcolm was definitely a driver and came up with some of the best guitar (e.g. “Back in Black”).
For “original”‘ members, there’s Angus Young, drummer Phil Rudd, then bass player Cliff Williams has been with them since I think their second album, Brian Johnson since 1980’s Back in Black obviously, and nephew Stevie Young has filled in at rhythm guitar at times in the past when Uncle Malcolm was drinking too much (and doing other things that lead to early dementia?) to stay alive on tour…
Saw an update that he is being moved to Walter Reed Military Medical Center from the White House. An “abundance of caution” was the reason given (I thought that was only for Coronabros?) and he will continue to work from there.
Pretty amazing how many people in that inner circle were all exposed or already are positive. The contact tracing list would be a who’s who of the top levels of our GOP government
The list just keeps growing Chris Christie just announced he is positive. He worked closely with Trump as debate prep last week.
Kelly Anne Conway too. Something like 16 people directly connected to the campaign and it’s recent events have all gotten positive tests in the last 36 hours.
Bill Barr was at some of the same events with video of him talking face to face with Conway but no reports yet on his status.
Does anybody know when the expression “due to an abundance of caution” that we’ve heard so much lately kicked in? It’s interesting to hear the slogans come and go in Washington (DC). “Not on my watch” “Spending our ______ and treasure”, etc. And of course, this administration’s “fake news” and “that’s a hoax”.
I know, but George is like 1/4″ of a Seinfeld episode, whereas David hogs the entire thing. Way more neurosis. Not a fan of neurosis…
I have watched it, and there are times I liked scenes and even some episodes, but the problem is it’s just too much neurosis for me to keep going. Maybe I’ll give it another shot.
In an entirely different vein, anyone here enjoy “The Closer”?
Casting, writing both very good and I’ve seen Kyra in other roles but she is never as good as this.
Trump doesn’t have Covid. He’s playing the willful idiots. He’s going to use it to delay the election, claim not valid with the courts, win some sympathy votes, and then have Pence pardon him when Pence takes over while he’s “sick”.
Angry was right he’s an evil genius. The willful idiots make him one.
I saw that last night. Was it moments after the Cards were eliminated? Pretty weird if so.
1968 might be the best year of any pitcher ever. 1.12 ERA…………others have had more Ws and Ks but 1.12…jeez.
Didn’t the league lower the mound after that season? Gibson was incredible, but it was the pinnacle of the pitcher dominated ara. I think the collective batting average was in the .230’s without the bombs we have now.
Wsu is a mystery with a new offense and new QB. Probably a good thing Beavs play them in week 1. You’d hope they wouldn’t be comfortable in their new system early on. Beavs will have another advantage having seen the offense last year vs Hawaii.
I noted this morning during the schedule “reveal” that Game Day listed the OSU/UO game as the Civil War. I wonder how that got by the censors? More importantly, both this schedule and the previous Covid schedule that came out in August have UO and UW finishing up with each other. You read it here first: This will become permanent. Oregon has always wanted the UW game to be their rivalry game, and once Ed Ray screwed up (again) by junking the Civil War moniker, he only accelerated that development. From now on, expect the OSU/UO game, whatever it’s called, to take place in the second or third week of October, mirroring what Michigan/Michigan State do.
I think it’s only the universities that decided they won’t market the game as the Civil War any longer. The Pac12, NCAA or ESPN aren’t required to follow their lead.
With the Civil War game moving to mid season, I actually like it. One thing I disliked about that game is the weather almost always sucks in late November. If it lands in October in future seasons, that’s be great. Imagine Halloween Civil War weekends
WSU – New coach, new QB and on the road. Tough variables for WSU. Beavs get a nice test first week.
UW – New QB and new OC. They didn’t get in any spring practices and the QBs they have are very unproven. A couple opt outs on defense will hurt them.
Cal – This will be a tough game. Last year, Beavs beat up their backup QB. #1 QB is much much better.
UO – We’ll see how bad their opt outs hurt them but they will still have more talent than the Beavs.
Utah – Always a tough game esp on the road.
Stanford – Another tough road game.
Schedule seems to indicate the crossover will be a home game??
For a successful season, Beavs will need to win the first two games. Those are the 50/50 games and they likely won’t be favored in the remaining four games.
Some odd things about the Beav opponents,
– It appears only Cal will have a returning QB who started more than one game last year.
– Related, Beavs may face a new QB for every team unless Cal’s backup starts.
– First four opponents will have new offensive coordinators.
I’m leaning toward CAL winning the North if they can remain healthy this year. Lots of talent, they play tough defense. Their offense was lacking last year because of QB injuries, but I think they’re healthy there now and have alot of guys returning.
DLine is also their biggest question mark.
They’re could be alot like the Beavs but with more QB experience.
This is finally the year of the Beaver! I going to assume all games are played as scheduled and Beavs have no major injuries in a shortened season. Here is my prediction based on the schedule:
Win- WSU- no pirate, no grinch, new system should be a win, Beavs ought to have a chip on the shoulder after last year’s game
Win- UW- no Pete and all coaches in new roles so new HC, new OC, new DC and new QB, I think this is when Beavs alert everyone that they will control the North
Win- Cal is breaking in another OC and qb has been the consistent limitation, Gebbia becomes a star against Bears D and Beavs have a huge season in their sights
Win- UO will be reeling as Cristobal has few answers for a anemic offense, no Sewell and no more exp qb in his system, Ducks D will be stout but vulnerable and they are beatable. Beavs gaining momentum as a result of continuity
Win- Utah on the road without home crowd will come down to football IQ and execution, Beavs will be ready and win a close one, little home field advantage is helpful against Utah
Win- Cardinal is no longer the juggernaut and Beavs will be poised and ready to finish it off, Beavs will end the 6 week run with their most complete effort and win the North.
Win- ASU/Championship game will be against ASU and it will be a rematch from the thriller last season. Beavs run game will be unstoppable and they control the game and go to the Rose Bowl against Ohio State.
Nice to finally be able to put on my OSU goggles of victory again. How this can happen will be on the O-line to control games with Jefferson racking up huge yardage, and the defense being the saltiest bunch since 2000, d-line play will be stingy based on active stunts, lbs will be elite and d-backs will be ball-hawks and surprisingly good. Gebbia will be beyond expectations and has the “it” factor as the leader, Jefferson can make a run at Heisman numbers, JS national coach of the year, Beavs will not get into the playoff because they aren’t the ducks, but JS gets OSU to the Rose Bowl in his 3rd year.
119 yards of offense vs UW in 2019; 88 pass, 31 rushing. Couldn’t protect the QB. What makes you think that next year will be different, if we lose 3 experienced linemen?
Lady, too, and her head hit the garage door opener so hard she got dizzy/concussed and has a welt. Also has back pain. The tow guy said it was a serious force and the guy had to be going at least 50 because the frame of the car actually bent. We were in stop and go congestion…my guess is he was looking at his phone in between.
I’m sort of okay…back and neck hurt. Probably should go to the ER.
I’m pretty pissed going to be thousands/have to get an entirely new car. It’s totaled and my guess is bluebook value won’t come close to the cost to repair, so they will just junk the car. We’ve had this thing (volvo) ten years and love it.
Holy cow, hope your ok. My oldest daughter hit an elk on the way to the coast yesterday, totaled the car but she’s fine and the elk got up and ran off so I’m guessing its ok too
I was in a car accident when I was 14. 15 years later started feeling sever neck pain when I lost the curvature of the spine neck area. Long story short, go get checked out. Get x rays. Get whatever you can money wise because you never know down the road. I now go to the chiro regularly. You might feel fairly fine now but who knows what will come of any injuries down the road. Enjoy the drink(s).
Yeah it’s necessary for insurance, if nothing else. My wife used to work in auto insurance and that’s always the first question when anyone has any kind of auto incident. If there’s pain as a result, get it documented by a doctor.
That sounds like a pretty serious impact.
You know better than anybody, but it’s probably worth a call to your doctors’ advice line at the minimum. The pain/soreness could take some time to come on with swelling, and plus you could be running on adrenaline right now and not feeling it as much. Not to mention her head getting knocked.
Exactly. I think we’re going to see how we feel in the AM, but likely we’ll go just to cover our asses in the event it does turn into something.
We told the counter party’s insurance company we had these injuries/pain, and weren’t really sure beyond that because we were still shaking/had adrenaline. The tow guy said go get it looked at just to cover your ass. He said he was in a similar accident and his back was never the same to this day. I guess we have to do that. I don’t feel like I’m permanently injured and expect this pain to go away in a few days, but I guess you never know, and the tow guy’s story freaked me out.
I’d just like to give a shout out to Volvo…built like TANKS and probably saved us from way more serious injury. It also still was able to stay on the road and get us home, despite a bent frame, bumper falling off, nearly punctured gas tank, trunk that wouldn’t close, tranny probably bent (felt stiff)…etc. Incredible cars. The safety reputation is real.
Anyone have experience with Subaru? Any years/models to look at?
Any other car recommendations? We buy old/used all cash to avoid payments (invest the savings of not carrying a lease into the stock market, way smarter). That’s just how we roll. Cheap/efficient.
Dude, 15k-26k is the price I’m seeing. I’d rather spend like 3k, do all the maint myself, and then put the other 12-23k in the stock market. My 60 year old self would thank me. My dad was a Ford mechanic for 30 years, and the #1 and #2 rule he taught me is never buy new and never take out a lease on a depreciating asset like a car. I’m glad you like it, though!
My hands are too compromised to turn a wrench or pull a dipstick these days. You can always grab an older one. Subaru hasn’t had a bad year yet like most manufacturers. They don’t lose value quickly though, ,kinda like toyota trucks.
We had a Subaru Forester. The engine and drive train were bullet-proof but interior accommodations were ordinary or worse. Gauges weren’t situated optimally, seats were uncomfortable, and little touches like cup holders were disappointing in their number and placement. I recommend Suzuki and Toyota.
Not sure on the years but some of the oldish outbacks had head gasket issues. Worth looking into that, if it has already been replaced probably not a big issue.
Have a 2007 Impreza wagon Head gaskets were a problem for that year, and apparently are an issue for horizontal engines in general since the oil doesn’t drain out of the head when the engine is off; the trade off is the lower center of gravity. Air bag recalls, like lots of other manufacturers. Other than that, it’s been a great car. Fun to drive, decent power, great traction. A little difficult to wrench on, small engine compartment. Accessory belts are easy enough, but spark plugs are a pain. A bit to small for family trips too, unless you like feeling like a sardine.
…..wasn’t able to finish
I’ve owned the following Subarus (in order of preference for overall cost of ownership, best to worst):
2001 Impreza Outback Sport (best), bought in late 2002 owned for 8.5 years (183,0000 miles), great car.
2007 Forester 2.5XS, bought in 2013 still own in 7th year (currently at 102,000 miles), great car, probably my favorite for added size and power over the Impreza.
2010 Forester Premium, bought in 2015 owned for 5 years (153,000 miles), recently sold to upgrade to Toyota Truck for towing, etc. Had issues with back driver’s side window getting stuck, and other minor nagging issues.
2008 Outback XT, (worst), bought in 2010 turbo died in 2015 and ruined engine, don’t ever buy this car or turbo, banjo filter/screen bolt are hard to keep-up/maintain — technicians didn’t look at it either during routing maintenance.
General Observations:
1). All will need head gaskets replaced at or between 100K and 150K (expect costs from 800-1800$ depending on size of car, engine)
2). Obviously the bigger size the car, the more expensive the parts etc, but I had no clue the jump in cost (2X going from 2007 Forester to 2010 Forester) in tires, oil changes, gasket replacement and other general maintenance.
3). The 2001 and 2007 both standard/stick/manual shift — what I prefer don’t come with the problems of an automatic, although replacing the clutch, cost ~$750.
4). I’m on the fence on whether I would get one of the newer 2017-current Subarus — cars in general just have a lot of bells&whistles, and more expensive crap that breaks over time. When my 2007 goes down for good, I will certainly open my newer car search to Honda/Toyota and may be even Kia/Hyundai.
The Impreza Outback “Sport” is nothing more than a marketing thing for Impreza’s between 1995-2002 (approximately). Outback sales doing good at the time, so they called Imprezas “Outback Sport” making the original Impreza look a bit more rugged and off-road — certainly not a “Sport” model with gimmicky/fake shifting that you see in modern Subarus.
You can get a pre-owned 2019 Outback for around 24-25K. Very nice vehicle with functional and comfortable design. Has so many nice safety sensors too that alert you toward anything around you. So much better situational awareness to keep you ding free. Take a trip to a dealership and check them out if interested. Can always try to find a private seller if you think can save you a little.
Yeah, we bought a 2005 Subaru Outback and it’s been great although had to replace head gasket at about 105K and that wasn’t cheap. They rebuilt the top end of the engine for about $3,300 but that’s cheaper than a $40K+ new car. I’m more of a toyota guy than Subaru though. I’ve had several and never a problem although I typically lease every 3 years now. I’ve got the 2020 Highlander and it outperforms any other SUV in its class for ride, comfort and handling IMO.
The people who hit us were super nice. First thing he did was run to our door and ask if we were okay. He was a Mexican guy from Texas. Wife was even nicer. And the tow guy was super nice…we didn’t even call him or need him…just stopped because he saw us sidelined, even though we didn’t need a tow. Gave me some hope in humanity. On the Southbound side there were a ton of Trumpers with flags and don’t tread on me snakes driving by, well past the speed limit. Lost faith in humanity watching them.
Do you expect people to stop and run across highway traffic to help with a wreck that other people have already stopped for? Seems like an unwise decision. A guy did that in Roseburg not to long ago, he got hit by a truck and left behind a wife and 3 young kids.
Hope you recover quickly Angry. Don’t take chances on long-term damage, Best to get checked out on the record as soon as possible and have some paper trail for future insurance issues if anything lingers.
Okay, I will go tomorrow and get some x-rays to make sure there’s nothing major. It feels like muscles and spine reacted to an impact, but maybe it’s more. Regarding medical documentation, if I feel better tomorrow, still go?
Say I feel the same pain tomorrow and go for legit reasons…am I stuck going back for repeat visits just to keep a file going? Like when does it end? That tow guy freaked me out saying he never felt the same like 20 years later. So do you have to keep a charade up to just be safe from that kind of thing? I don’t know; I’m not a scammer. Yet, I got maybe fucked up and need to look out for future self. I don’t know how these things work.
Soft tissue injuries should not be ignored. I got rear ended pretty bad once and had whiplash. I didn’t go to the doctor. My neck hurt for about a year or two. A lot of uncomfortable nights of trying to sleep. Not going to the doctor will end up with over compensating for the injury leading to a new injury, and so on.
So yeah, go to the doctor for treatment. It’ll pay off in the long term.
It is easy to slide into a fear based reaction and over-react to it, but don’t simply dismiss and hope all is well since “I’m not hurting too bad right now”.
Wisdom is to at least begin the paper-trail process right now and have some documentation as a balanced approach rather than either end of the spectrum. You need to have something for insurance concerns down the road if it becomes a larger issue later.
Your results and dr opinions will be much. more valuable than mine on timelines and future concerns. I applaud you not playing the system, but I have a long-time friend who was a chiropractor and the phrase he said often is: “Insurance companies are not our friend, for the patient, nor the dr.”
Disclaimer, I am not in medical, or insurance field, simply giving my honest input for you.
I got hit from behind in in ’76 by a Caddy who apparently didn;t think I got off the line fast enough. Not like getting hit at speed, but still. The accident was far 1500 miles from home so I didn’t go see a doctor. I wish I had because I’ve had intermittent issues through the years.
Hold out on the other driver’s insurance wanting to settle something quickly. You might have something flare up a few weeks down the road. Also, don’t rule out getting a lawyer in this situation.
Angry, glad you’re ok! Make sure you get that water in. Sounds stupid, but it helps flush the system. Think seeing a chiropractor or getting a deep massage. It can release some pent up toxins.
i’d try acupuncture before Chiropractic. I’ve done both and much more success with chinese acupuncture, or as Trump would say, “kung fu acupuncture.” Getting rear ended is no fun and nether is whiplash. I got rear ended twice and whiplash both times. WL tough since you’re carrying around 10lb weight on your shoulders with strained neck muscles. Ice, heat and meds. Take care Angry as WL takes some time to heal up.
Pat Casey “undergoing hip replacement surgery on Wednesday”, per Eggers. (no word on wart removal)
Didja know Eggers has his own website? Some interesting stuff there, including this on Casey’s future, ” It wouldn’t surprise me if Casey, 61, takes another college job after the 2021 season. I don’t think he’d coach in the Pac-12, but the Southeast Conference? “
Oh, and this about football: “Oregon’s goal this season: Go undefeated and advance to the conference championship game on Dec. 18. Oregon State’s goal: Win four games and make a bowl game for the first time since 2013.”
He’s certainly entitled to his opinion but I’m hoping JS goal is to simply WIN THE NEXT GAME.
I got diagnosed today…whiplash and thoracic and lumbar strains.
For now it’s muscle relaxers, rest, etc. Given this reality, I decided to hire an attorney. Thanks for the tips on that, guys…
What it is about Colorado and getting rear-ended? I got blasted on I-25 about 20 years ago in stop and go traffic. I could see her coming at about 50 mph, it was the weirdest feeling not to be able to do anything about it. I must say, I was impressed with National Car Rental, they just towed me out another car like it was no big deal. Me being a dedicated company employee (and idiot) headed straight to work, never saw a doctor. I have had off and on neck problems over the last few years, I’ve always wondered if that’s where it started?
I was asking the attorney today why there are so many awful drivers here…no good explanation. I’ve lived all over the US and it has the worst drivers of anywhere by far.
A lot of distracted driving going around because of cell phones. What are Colorado’s cell phone laws like? A lot of Northwest states you can’t touch the phone at all, even Waiting at stop signs.
Totally agree with how bad Colorado drivers are. The in-laws live in Ft Collins so I get there every so often. All those people on their phones driving way too fast. In town it seems like 50 is routine on the wide open main straight away streets.
I dont know.. after he started 3 weeks ago the coach said after the game that Tyrod Taylor would still the starting QB.. only reason he isnt was cause he’s out with the punctured lung
He’s definitely got some rookie issues. He scrambles too early pretty often and often will take the first open look even if something better might come up. Pretty lame complaints for a rookie though, I’m impressed.
Is that site legal? I know in CO we legalized gambling on the last ballot.
I might put $100 on that as well. Risk/reward profile is good. What happens if the season is cancelled, though, or any other issues with games cancelled, etc? I haven’t placed an online bet since like 2003.
Rumor I heard is that ilani (newer casino in SW washington, 1 mile from my house) is making a deal with the MGM sportsbook. Not sure if there will be online options or not.
Bills score a TD to go up by 7, and decide to kick the extra point instead of going for 2, which would make it a 2-possession game and force the Raiders to change their game plan to something more predictable. Kicker misses the PAT.
I see this both in the college and pro games. Why?
Darn good! With his departure “Oregon has now lost six of its top seven tacklers from last season, who were responsible for 12 of its 20 interceptions, all of its four fumble returns and 28 of its 56 pass breakups.”
I agree. He wasn’t even a starter for the first portion of last season and isn’t 198 a little light for NFL?
Red, white, pink, black, yellow, or green; he doesn’t appear to have a sustained record over a long period of time.
But, I’m glad we don’t have to face him, he did look very good towards the end of last season.
Jordan Poyer plays for the Bills at 6’0 191lbs currently.
Breeze is listed at 6’0 198lbs as a college player.
Agree that Breeze wasn’t inpressive most of his college career, but watching his progression last year, he was one of those guys where you could tell the game suddenly slowed down for him and he became a legitimate playmaker.
And I never liked the dude even coming out of highschool, but have to give credit where due.
Maybe via grad transfer, but plug and play DTs are one of the toughest types of players to find even in a full recruiting cycle. On short notice it’s pretty unlikely they find anybody who could actually make an impact this season.
I don’t think he faked it, but then again, nothing would surprise me. After all, he lies a lot. Now he’s telling America, “Don’t be afraid of COVID….” Great, just great. It’s now open season on stupidity although he’s got a lifetime full of it. You do stupid and stupid does you.
Seems crazy if you take the over they either go undefeated or you push/lose. You’d be better off just betting the money line every week if you were that confident. That said I do envision some classic P12 refs defending the unbeatens as the season progresses.
It’s accurate. A tipster messaged the same info to me yesterday but asked that it remain unreported. I guess the spoiler balls don’t count as a report, technically, so that’s their loophole. Dumb
Does this season count towards years played for football? If so, I’m guessing the 2021 class will stay fairly small given how few guys could decide to come back for an extra season.
I’m actually a little worried with how Covid free OSU. If it does hit OSU eventually, pretty much everybody on the team is suseptible to contracting it. As far as I know, no current players have immunity yet
“…the Beavers will begin a four-week training camp and will be able to begin full-contact practices exactly 29 days before their first game. That’s the same window in which Division 1 football teams are allowed to practice during a normal year. “
Looks like a good athlete with good ball skills. He runs by everyone and breaks quite a few tackles. He plays at a pretty high level in TX, too, so it’s not like he’s playing against scrubs.
I don’t know about that. He’s outrunning entire defenses in a few of those clips, sometimes after making the catch and turning 180 degrees. It can be hard to gauge speed on videos like this, though.
On the other hand, I imagine if he had really good 40 times, he would have more stars, offers, etc.
FWIW, ESPN has him ranked as our #3 commit in this class (behind Mascarenas and Collins).
What I see is that he can get to his top speed faster but his top speed isn’t necessarily fast. So his 10 yard speed is probably above average. That’s why I see a slot future for him, he’s not going to be a threat on deep balls but will be a guy who can get open in tighter spaces. Looks like good hands too.
Of course, he’s got lots of time to improve his speed.
He looks fast enough. Has a long stride, too, which always looks deceptive.
It’s a good pickup. Might not be a game changer, but looks like a guy who will make plays.
Has anybody seen any media on position group breakdowns for OSU this year? I’m looking for info on the DLine
Wondering if we’ll end up moving Shippen over to DT? Seems like we’ll need about 3 guys to rotate that position and will have to play 3 down Linemen all year. Even Bennett will need to get his sea legs quickly. After that, I dont know who else, maybe Reichnor? Seems like we could shift any of Gumbs/Hughes-Murray/Garcia in from OLB to DE if we need more bodies. We’ll really be undersized but can hopefully make up for that with speed and depth at the backing positions.
So to have a shot at all competing at DT in our system you need to be atleast 290 preferably 310-330 range. That makes for a pretty short list based on the current roster (Doesn’t look updated on returning players heights and weights). Comparing to top college 3/4 defenses our line would be DT: 6’0-6’3 310-345 DE: 6’3-6’6 280-310.
Oh nice, CJ Baskerville. He has been high on OSU since July. Was planning to visit this fall.
Similar to Valsin, both Texas guys who I had been told would have already committed months ago to OSU, but Coach Smith wanted them to take their visits first. Maybe something changed with Smith’s policy recently, because as far as I know, Valsin didnt ever get to visit and Baskerville hasnt either.
Ha, i do trust the crystal ball picks for the most part. And to be totally honest, I just havent been as into recruiting this cycle as past years. Covid plays into that as well as work and life just being generally busier this year(also thanks to covid)
Hopefully next year will be more back to normal
One more guy who I think we will likely land is OL-Dylan Rollins (montana), although some other good teams have entered his recruitment late and could make a push if they strike out on their higher priority targets.
So we’re looking at about 13 guys right now. I don’t see the class growing much beyond that, so after they get another OL, they may be done until signing day. Considering the small size of this class, that’s actually a pretty talented group of recruits for us to pull in, and they’re from a pretty wide net geographically.
Next year’s class will be much bigger, as we have quite a few Seniors this year, unless they all decide to come back another year due to Covid. Then things could get messy.
Assuming we get Baskerville and anyone else we pick up isn’t rated below .82 or so I think it would be our highest average rating class ever. In fact I think all of Smiths classes are in the top 10 ever.
It’s also the first full year with Coach Pitre as our recruiting coordinator after Vincent Guinta left for Baylor. Small class helps but I also think having Pitre and Blue Adams more involved in recruiting has helped the team overall.
Thank you for the update NB. Is there a position that is thin in the pipeline? I know sometimes it takes guys a year or two to develop so looking back over the last few years of recruitment, I’m wondering if due to medical retirement, transfers, misses on recruiting and so forth if there is a position that needs attention more than others. I know Angry has mentioned DT.
Both lines. We rarely get guys who are our early targets and end up settling for other teams’ leftovers.
I would like to see overall line recruiting improve so 1 or 2 injuries doesn’t make/break our season.
Aidan Willard medically retires. I think technically the timing of this means he could have retired prior to Fall term starting so his scholarship might be available for a quick last minute roster addition for Fall football. Something to keep an eye on.
Crossing fingers for a DT.
Fwiw, I tried quizzing a source today about the possibility of adding a DT before Fall camp and got denied. They’re not sharing that info with anybody.
I don’t totally know scholarship totals, so it’s hard to know for sure what space they have remaining. It’s possible Marco Brewer or Josh Green could be claiming that spot, but that’s not publicly available info.
My hope would be Brewer starts out as a walkon and is required to earn a spot on the team, rather than being handed a guaranteed multi year spot.
Green is a punter, so I wouldnt think he’d be on scholarship, but this tweet makes ot sound like he is.
Also surprised Whitley isn’t a medical retirement. If he does have a tumor on his heart, how could he possibly come back and safely play again before his eligibility is up? He’d still be guaranteed the academic portion of the scholarship if he retired.
I don’t know his diagnosis, but isn’t it possible it’s a benign tumor and he’s fine? My sister has had a tumor on her kidney for 30 years without issue.
Dont know either. He sounded pretty worried about it but i guess it’s possible he was just worried about initial discovery of it and he’s still ok. So best case scenario, he’s healthy and can actually play this season.
The team did just tweet out that he has a new number this year, so I guess that makes it sound like playing is still a possibility. I put the question out there. Hopefully he responds.
Seeing all these names that started over the span of a few years reminds me how crucial stable qb play is to give a program a chance at a decent season. Riley wasn’t the best coach ever but he usually had a plan when it came to next up for the qb spot.
Any word on if Whitley is cleared to play? I saw an announcement today he’s changed his number to #5… seems weird to make a big announcement about it if he’s not suiting up?
That’s the 360 lb question. Hoping somebody reports on it. If he’s available, somehow that one bit of good news would have me pretty optimistic about the upcoming season.
Noticed Blitz has a DLine preview today but it’s a paywall article. Anybody read it? Curious if it includes a Whitley update?
Anyone else think its weird that we only offered 2 DT this cycle? It seems like a position of need but we barely offered anyone. Are we using a defensive scheme that isn’t standard 3-4?
I wonder what his actual measureables are. Article says 290 but furds roster has him at 264. Was 255 out of high school 2 years ago. It would be nice to have another guy the size of Shippen. Not sure what the talent level is. Mid 2 star in 2017, redshirted and played 5 games with no stats. Stanford removed him from the 2020 roster already and on the 2019 he was listed as a junior instead of RS Freshman.
Do we know when practice starts?
“We get about two weeks leading into a four week training camp, so these next two weeks will be [spent] in the weight room and a few skill developments and walkthroughs which we will do a few times this week and then the following week,” Smith said. “Our bylaws say you get 29 days before your first game to do 25 practices, which is the same as last August. Really the only difference for us now is managing school being in.”

Go Beavs
Be nice to focus on football, eh?
Yeah.
yep.
If anyone wants a good Fall recommendation on Neflix, check out “The Devil All the Time”…quite good.
Nice, just started watching the challenger show.
Is it good? Has good reviews.
So far yes. And I was born in 85 so very educational for me. Had no idea really all that went on. I always thougnt nasa was so cool but…
They have a pattern of complacency. Like to the point of being criminal.
The confusing/changing mission and constant funding battles have always killed motivation there. ITs hard to go hard all day when your project could be scrapped as a political football.
I’ve seen the first episode so far. It’s closer to home because my sixth grade teacher was the runner up for teacher in space.
Really? Wow thats crazy.

Not the dude that ate Subway 24/7….
His criminal record shows that the dude was doing a lot more than just eating at Subway!
BeeG, I started scoping class B and B+ rigs.
Selling the yacht?
yeah, I’m becoming a landsman.
If things get crazy after the election (total break down of civil society) demand will go even higher so folks can hide out in far away places.
Why do you think they’ll win the North? The defense had a ton of issues last year that won’t get fixed in one year. The losses on the dline are big.
QB play + bend but don’t break D.
D took a big step towards the end of the season.
I just read that JS says Rashed is playing this season, so that’s good!
We just can’t afford to lose anyone on the lines.
Rashed has to play this year if he wants to improve his draft stock. Mid round pick right now but could be a fringe 1st round or 2nd round pick if he has another big year.
Best roster since 2006 and best coach we have had since DE.
Yep.
Stanford is off the schedule already right? SO we have an additional south team to schedule?
Utah and ASU likely
Ducks get UA and CU?….”and Uncle Phil looked surprised when that schedule came out…”
I thought Stanford was playing.
Yep, Stanford is in.

Leach and Kiffen in the same state. Should be entertaining.
Forgot kJ Costello transferred to Mississippi state. Him and leach could be dangerous.
Indeed. Costello just put them ahead with a nice ball. Missing out on Leach when he was available in ’10 & ’11 was a huge missed opportunity for OSU. A lost decade.
Leach’s D came to play too. Lets see if it lasts all 4 qtrs.
Is it me or is the CBS pick’um site messed up? I cant see anyones current picks.
Its working now. Nevermind.
You can only view the other people’s picks after the games.
Also, if you’re around AKBeav, you dint have any picks made for this week. Not too late to get the remaining games picked so it’s not a total loss
This is the page I was looking for. It wouldn’t load for me for some reason. Its good now.
http://beavrecruitingnfl2020.football.cbssports.com/office-pool/standings/live
Hey there, appreciate the reminder. I was in AK due to a death in the family and just spaced the picks.
I’ve been a Beaver fan long enough to keep my optimism in check. I’m just excited to watch them play, regardless!
K state is giving Oklahoma all they can handle. Upset in the making
ball game. KSU wins. I always thought that program was what OSU should aim for in terms of steady upside.
You’ll have to push angry out of the way, he was on the Snyder/ksu bandwagon long ago.
Yep, best overall coach of our era.
Sorry didn’t mean for not be a reply
Texas tech’s Offense is looking good. Matt wells might be more than a one hit wonder.
247 has a few new crystal balls for a 2022 OLineman from Napavine, CA, Keith Olson, to commit OSU.
https://247sports.com/Player/Keith-Olson-46058447/
Take that all other teams that wished they’d offered him!
Things will be really weird for the 2022 class. His size is great.
Thats what she said?
Never gets old.
Has BG left the building, again?
Oregon loses a 4th player due to NFL draft opt out. Jovan Holland.
So their top OL and 3 NFL draft level defensive backs won’t be playing this year.
say, can anyone remember what happened to those QB’s GA recruited and flipped to other schools? I’m not referring to the Riley hold overs like Kempt, but recruits who had made a commitment to OSU, or were a solid lean, but in the end went elsewhere. I seem to recall one went to the mid west and another to Colorado
There was that tall kid who ended up at Iowa, Spencer Petras. He’s only thrown about 10-15 total pass attempts in his 2 years there.
Not sure who the Colorado guy would be.
Maybe the local kid, Sam Noyer? Except i dont think he was ever a Beav lean. I think he left Colorado eventually but I didnt follow where he ended up
that’s right. Petras. Thx.
Petras was backing up a future NFL QB. He’ll be the starter for the first time this year as an underclassman.
I’m good with our current QB situation, though.
I agree with you BiOH. This is our best QB package since Canfield/Moevo. But with guys like Petras one’s mind always wanders to “what might have been.”
What about Mannion/Vaz?
GA was a qb guru
He knew how to develop a QB that could produce 9-10 wins…for the opponent.
The Leach effect
“Miss St QB KJ Costello, a transfer from Stanford, needs 75 yards passing in the fourth quarter vs LSU to set the single-game SEC passing record.”
SEC is not ready for the Leech ‘gimmick’ offense. Costello over 600 yards.
sec is a defense centric conference, so I hear
Leach is a genius. And to think, after Dennis, we could have had another first-rate renegade coach. But no we had to (you know)
Remember this one? Jack complaining right off the bat.
http://angrybeavs.com/athletics/1330
thanks for the flash back.
He’s also bat shit crazy, but it would have been fun to have him in Corvallis. He’s going to get better players at Starksville.
How long would he have stayed in Corvallis? Well, probably longer than ga but …
Yeah but if you’re dating a hot chick, do you ask “how long will I be with her?” or “in this obviously limited time with her, is this not the greatest thing ever?”………….
Depends on the crazy level
Dude he stayed in Pullman 8 fucking years. So probably a while?
Shows the importance of psychology. Have a mentally strong team that can remove the noise…
I can think of so many games, especially under Riley (e.g. Utah 2008), where the crowd overwhelmed the Beavs.
Exactly
happened at a couple of close games vs. SC in LA and infamously at Sun Devils stadium regularly.
Gotta think the crowd not only affects the away team, but also the refs.
Very much so.
Crap, I think I forgot to make picks. Should cement last place.
Well it looks like I did make picks, but still should cement last place.
You need to spend more than 5 secs….I sent you some links in the last thread to help you out, assuming if you have the 15 minutes to digest to make educated picks.
Of course you’re bragging! Deservedly so, 9 of 11, well done. And now alone in first.
I’ve noticed that many participants have nearly matched their points from the first two weeks in this single current week, learning process?
Maybe this was already posted
https://www.treehugger.com/after-years-trying-beaver-lover-photographer-gets-his-shot-4859180
Oregon state was mentioned in espn article today referring to the pac12 being back and we don’t have to wait four years like the photographer did that took the pic of the beaver.
He should have accepted the job at Penthouse.
Yeah, much easier to get that pic of a beaver with a Bush.
Testing
watching Buffalo’s collapse (having, at this writing, blown a 25 point lead) against the Rams, I’m reminded of the old saying in hockey that a two-goal lead is the most dangerous one.
Part of that was Riley suddenly finding the run plays in the playbook and going ultra-conservative once we were up 14.
Especially with the offenses today..every one is up tempo and fast pace.. so no lead is safe.. you have to score 35 anymore to win games
After reading wannabeav’s post – I checked highlights of the Buffalo game – good photo of Poyer but it left me wondering if Poyer actually brought down the ball carrier. https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2020/09/27/nfl-rams-bills-week-3-highlights/
Then, https://www.nfl.com/videos/rams-vs-bills-highlights-week-3 – Josh Allen & Jared Goff – looked like a good game –
another case in point.
So many WR screens and quick outs. That game had more YAC than Asia has Yaks
Jimmy G?
Never liked Matt Ryan. Very generic QB. Never feel like he’ll pull it out (twss?).
Ryan seems to be a front runner, but when things turn against his team he simply cannot pull them out of a dive.
Foles has the “it” factor when he’s not “the guy”.
He is what they call a “super sub” in soccer. Kind of a hard gig to hold down as a QB.
One of the few who have cashed in. 65 mil in career earnings so far.
there’s a lot of truth in what you say about Foles, Bill.
Joe Montana fails to beat the shit out of person trying to kidnap one of his grandchildren. Pretty scary, im not sure i could hold back in a situation like that.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/09/27/us/joe-montana-kidnapper-confrontation-trnd/index.html
Was a woman though… if it had been a man it might have been different situation
That situation is an equal opportunity ass whipping. Kidnappings end in murders more often then not.
Well as bad as I am at pick ’em this year, I won my second straight fantasy baseball championship. Better yet it’s a money league. Dynasty!
A thumb down? I guess A@A is around butthurt once again that I know a lot about baseball.
Will Nall get Tarik Cohen’s touches since he’s injured?
Saw an article online this morning speculating that it could mean Artavis Pierce could get added to the active roster and get Cohen’s touches given their similar styles.
I can accept that.
Well I didn’t watch the game but it sounds like Herbert struggled a bit against a relatively talentless but decently cohesive Carolina D.
We’re entering that time of the year where Oregon State’s late Fall term start date helps them attract transfers who maybe arent happy where they started the year. Not sure how Covid will affect everything this year though.
One guy I’ve got my eye on is a safety from Boise State, Jordan Happle. Went to HS at Jesuit in Beaverton and would have crossed paths with several of our current players.
https://247sports.com/college/boise-state/Article/Boise-State-football-safety-Jordan-Happle-enters-transfer-portal-151891819/
Actually, Oregon makes more sense for him since they’ve lost several DBs to draft opt outs
would have crossed paths with several of our current players.
And given them all Covid.
Luck o’ da Beavs.
Nice Beaver,
It might be a big ask, can you give us an up to date recruiting breakdown for football? Maybe nothing has really changed since your last one… but, I’m not sure I could even find it again in the archives.
The notorious Mike remmers still in the league. Has a great shot to return to the super bowl.
Remmers has made himself a nice career in the NFL. never would have guessed that possible from watching him in Reser with all those false starts.
its almost as if there are better coaches in the NFL
side note…jack was a big remmers fanboy
Nuke, we touched on this in the last thread, and wanted to mention it but didn’t. Out of our own OSU, the future of carbon free safe energy.
Hopefully.
https://www.koin.com/news/business/portland-companys-innovative-nuclear-reactor-okd-by-feds/amp/
It’s a beautiful design and I have many contacts in NuScale. It’s scaleable, extremely safe and provides pretty good power. People will still be against it which will stunt it’s total impact. Uranium mining is a problem too. For.this to be an actually good idea we need to reprocess our spent fuel.
In-situ uranium mining is pretty well-controlled, right?
It’s okay but water table leakage is an issue and it’s more expensive. Most uranium mining is done in shaft mines or put mines last I checked.
The US alone has 100,000 years of fuel if we reprocessed. Mining more is pointless.
I remember at one point there was talk of running these things on thorium. I doubt thorium mining is much better but whatever happened to that?
Anti nuke folks hate thorium too
Yup they hate any unstable particles typically. Thorium is a good option if you have good deposits. Most of the know supply is in india which is why they have been building thorium reactors.
wasn’t the Doomsday Device in Dr. Strangelove made of Thorium G?
A little more info, with a dash of doom. 35 cities have signed up but 2 pulled out, oh well.
https://www.popularmechanics.com/science/energy/amp34198830/two-cities-pull-out-nuscale-tiny-reactor-nuclear-revolution/
Hard for me to take seriously. I’m 31 and I have seen the optimism wheel rotate through 4 times.
Manufacturing the steam generators is going to be a significant problem for NuScale.
Why is that?
My wife just asked me if we know the Beavs football schedule yet…she is a keeper.
This would be prime weekend weather coming up for a home football game.
A classic weekend for the Beavers to play in all black on their sideline in the sun.
they make that same mistake at least once a season. dumb
An obviously too-early CBS 2021 NFL Draft speculation has Chicago taking Rashed Jr. RD 1, # 17, as a “really exciting player that offers a lit if pass rush potential.”
Angry, they project the Jets to draft QB Trevor Lawerence at #1….boy the Jets are woeful….
the Jets should hire Mike Leach. Can you imagine him with a NYC platform?!
Could Tom Brady play until he is 60 in Leach’s offense? Quick reads and quick release all day and no time to hit him…
The Cocodrils are feedin’ like a frottior and the Beavs are stewin’ like courtbouillon. Any of you bon amis have the updated schedule?
C’est tout, from the swamp.
^^^Best name on the site LOL.
And avatar
Except that the beaver is in the wrong side
On
Week 4 picks are up in the CBS pool
When does the match up analysis show up on the picks?
Pierce gets added to the Bears active roster. Apparently Nall was already on it? NFL scour says of Pierce “he’s more quick than fast. I’ve never really seen the speed.”
He clearly didn’t see AP outrun the entire Ohio State secondary!
Translation: “I’ve never seen him, but when I looked up his player profile on ESPN it doesn’t say LSU, Florida, Ohio State, or Alabama.”
Exactly. Pierce is a burner at RB lol
Speaking of Ohio State…
Have you ever been to a game at the horseshoe? That looks like a fantastic experience.
It is incredible.
It is a great venue, but you can get really bad sight lines. The Beaver game there it rained like crazy
Anyone watched kiss the ground? Just curious if it’s unbiased.
GO BEAVS!!
Yet it will be legit if they win?
Everyone has the same rules. We’re a better team this year, so we should win that game.
They’ll contest the outcome due to all the mail in ballots.
The duck fans have already started that narrative.
Just means they’re nervous.
All of our 5 star guys opted out and went to other schools. Equal playing field.
We had 5-star guys?
Fuck Trump.
#debatemess
Couldn’t agree more. Dude is a disgrace. Didn’t mind him before 16’ personally. Didn’t vote as I didn’t like either, but man it is the most annoying thing in my life right now.
That’s saying a lot with a pandemic, killer bees, riots and smoke filled air. Just need the leader of the country to shut the hell up and do his job. That is all I want
You forgot wars.
They might as well start wearing brown button down shirts and complete the process.
Bend but don’t break D. Said that a ton last year. So I’m guessing their points allowed wasn’t as bad as the yardage numbers, etc.
OT: some good games in this weeks pick’em.
Good points. Morris is healthy but can he make it an entire season without injury…
Sorry for my part in derailing the thread
Peace to beavos and FTD
Gonna be a wild couple of months… probably up until inauguration day
Good move, but you missed a couple.
Damn you Angry! I had a 13-page treatise I was going to post on Manifest Destiny as it relates to the post-modern era vis-a-vis secular colonialism. I guess it will have to wait.
what did I miss? Musta been really bad for angry to delete them.

I don’t really look much at PPG because there are other confounding factors there (field position, decision-making vzv score, clock time, etc.). I like YPG better.
3rd down defense is a good metric. Beavs were ranked 107 of 130 last year. Gave up first downs on 44% of third downs.
What about 4th down defense?
Ranked 128 of 130. Gave up first downs 77% of the time.
They made their splash plays on first and second down but couldn’t close the deal last year. That’s not a bend but don’t break defense.
But if they can get better there, and it really doesn’t have to be much improvement. Like one more stop per game. It could really change the season.
Well watching them they were bend but don’t break, so another example of stats not telling the story.
If one were to rewatch the season last year, game one thru the end of the season… it would be hard not to spot improvement imo.
I think our defense will be better this year than last year, but that’s a low bar.
Man, 4th downs were brutal last year. I feel like the other 23% were touchdowns.
Madrigal with 2 hits today.
2 errors I think as well though….
https://chicago.suntimes.com/2020/9/30/21496365/rookie-nick-madrigals-errors-baserunning-costly-in-white-sox-loss
The ground ball was a tough one. I think it hit the lip of the outfield, but he does need to clean up his fielding. He had 4 errors with limited playing time in the regular season also.
Need a good place to eat in Joseph. I remember someone mentioning a pizza joint that was good but I dont remember the name.
Gold room?
Yeah, someone recommended that place to me on here and I checked it out in August. Pretty good pizza. Not super filling, but high quality ingredients and wood fired. Outdoor back patio seating was a nice option too.
Yup, Gold Room for pizza. Have some pretty tasty drinks too if you want a cocktail.
Thanks guys ill try to check it out. Im currently posting from 2000 feet below the rim of hells canyon. First time here and its incredible country.
What’s your mobile carrier that gives you service down there? I want to be on that network
Verizon
Just switched to Verizon cause I live in the sticks. Impressed with the coverage
Lots of history down there. Ranches and depression era hideouts. Chinese gold miners massacred in 1887 too.
stunning landscape….don’t tell anyone about it. : )

Darnold is not very good. No picks so far but the defense has helped out the offense. What a competitive battle of the bottom feeders.
He might be ok (not good) if he had better talent around him and better coaching?
I think so. He’d look much better if he started on a team with decent talent. Might be a guy who just needs a change of scenery. Or could be Josh Rosen and just not be good.
Trump in quarantine. Ginsberg getting “justice” from above?
What a coronabro
He and melania are positive.
(((so much internal struggle)))
Sadly, part of me doesn’t believe him
First time he’s been positive….for somebody so “successful,” wise, and great, he sure is negative and almost always looks unhappy…
Shouldn’t have tested, wouldn’t have got it
Fat + old = goodbye
I feel like I’d trump wanted to keep this private he would have. So what’s the motivation?
Pro wrestling story-lines aren’t as fake and twisted. :)
There is only 1 man on this earth who can debate while fighting off the Covid. Will he have to debate in a bubble? I’m thinking like an incubator type deal similar to the one used on Austin Powers when they were trying to preserve him.
I dunno, I think if he tried to conceal it it would leak out eventually and that would be an even worse look.
Good words from Bears’ HC RE Peirce:

Funny vid of Melvin Gordon trying to hurdle a defender, been expecting defenders to fo thus for some time, head fake, crotch blast:

Did you see that Texas player that got upended on a hurdle?
https://twitter.com/BryanDFischer/status/1309980256107819008?s=20
Oh geez I’m glad I went into that at least knowing he was ok. Seeing that live would have been scary.
No big deal. Just a hyperextended back.
Ouch! Gordon was not expecting a shoulder hit to the nuts.
I feel like I remember that happening to Seth at one point
Metaphorically anyway…or was that Andersen?
No, that’s what Andersen metaphorically did to the whole OSU football program.
Don’t forget to make your CBS picks if you haven’t already
Just Gary Andersen being Gary Andersen.
“Gary Andersen says of Utah State players who might opt out:
“At least in our program, we don’t have an opt out. And it’s not an option. If you opt out, you’re not with us.””
(From Canzano’s twitter feed)
Worried about COVID? Just forget about it, put on your big boy pants, and go to war with the other war daddies.
How does one cheat with cheerleaders while wearing a mask?
As my papa used to say, “cut a slit to access her clit.”
No joke: the British Columbia CDC suggested glory holes.
Seriously? Like rest stop bathroom style? Seabass doen’t like those rules
You know when GA finds out he’ll be on the speed dial with AD at University of BC about their football coaching needs
The term seems open to potentially (and painfully) broad interpretation and perspective.
Year of the strongman!
Funny, Andersen opted out of Wiscy and OSU…
I think the guy likes low expectations he only has to outperform periodically. Riley-esque in that regard.
I highly recommend Powerage.
LOL, “Powerage” was about 1978 now “PWR UP” in 2020….
Throw away who made who and replace it with For Those About to Rock.
They are what they are. Malcolm Young was the tone and the riff machine of that band. I wouldn’t expect much out of any new album.
I know we are trying to not talk politics but it has been 16 hours since Trump last tweeted. I am a little worried.
I just got a letter in the mail from him. Anyone else get a stimulus letter hand signed?
Saw an update that he is being moved to Walter Reed Military Medical Center from the White House. An “abundance of caution” was the reason given (I thought that was only for Coronabros?) and he will continue to work from there.

Fat + old = goodbye.
Damn, imagine what a real virus could do.
Pretty amazing how many people in that inner circle were all exposed or already are positive. The contact tracing list would be a who’s who of the top levels of our GOP government
One way to drain the swamp…
Notre Dame president tested positive after White House visit. But Football!
Supreme Court Nominee tested negative but that’s because she already had it this year. Wow!
No kidding. What a pussy. Suck it up POTUS. Can’t believe those democrats would stoop to this level and purposely infect Trump with the COVID hoax.
Oh… all is well again, carry on
Dear leader defeated it already?
What a man!
He def did not write the announcement tweet.
That parrian has the cajones to gris gris the docs, but they sho’ diagnose that l’il meenoo with chronic lying, not corona.
-Out. From the swamp.
I just realized the joy in my life has decreased as I stopped watching Seinfeld.
Curb is basically the modern Seinfeld.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2oLFKYNInQ
I can’t get into it at all. Larry David is too neurotic, ala Woody Allen, who I can’t stand.
That’s odd since the george character on Seinfeld is modeled after Larry David.
Some episodes are better than others but it’s great. The same writing where everything comes full circle in the end. I think that’s why I like it.
In an entirely different vein, anyone here enjoy “The Closer”?
Casting, writing both very good and I’ve seen Kyra in other roles but she is never as good as this.
Really enjoyed it and watched regularly when it was still on. Some good additional characters as well, like her mother.
Yes, her mother. Lt. Tao was also great. Really hard to find a bad character there; as with Seinfeld.
Early Curb seasons might test your patience, but it really gets good. I love that show
My favorite comedy of all-time.
I wish I was fluent in swamp-ese. I need a translator!
The only man who can stop him now is Stone Cold Steve Austin

Ouch. JV media summarizes Chip Kelly “carnage” at Philadelphia Eagles and SF 49ers:

RIP Bob Gibson.
I think the collective batting average was in the .230’s without the bombs we have now.
the best among a great era for pitchers. guys like him were the reason baseball games were routinely played in 2 hours and 15 minutes.
And shorter breaks between innings since games weren’t on tv regularly
Pac 12 schedule is out. Beavs start off with wazzu, then huskies, cal, quacks, Utah, and end with Stanford.
https://mobile.twitter.com/georgewrighster/status/1312402892293169152?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet
Civil war is nov 27th which is a Friday. Pac12 after dark is back!
And cancel your pac12 subscriptions and don’t worry about signing up for fubo tv this year, all games will be nationally televised.
Honestly that was the best news coming from the weird shortened se a season
Told y’all the Chip vs ucks contest would be too hard for the powers to resist.
Looks like Beavs toughest games are all on the road.
Oh, and speaking of ucks, they get an extra day to prep for the Beavs……….won’t matter!
True they get extra day but the Ucks will also have to travel to Corvallis.. so that will probably negate any extra day they would get to prepare
Defense is going to be tested early in the year against WSU. That should be interesting.
Wsu is a mystery with a new offense and new QB. Probably a good thing Beavs play them in week 1. You’d hope they wouldn’t be comfortable in their new system early on. Beavs will have another advantage having seen the offense last year vs Hawaii.
Yup, first opportunity to test the theory that Beavs advantage in the continuity area will lead to W’s.
The discarding of the Civil War names was initiated and supported by Dennis Dixon with other duck alums.
F them..
Sucky weather though could be an advantage with the run game.
This Texas/TCU game has got to be the worst officiate game I’ve seen in a while!!!
Beavs get setup with a fairly favorable schedule.
Utah on the road won’t be nearly the same.
I like the lack of coaching cohesion like you mentioned. Have to think play. Calling will be dumbied down.
UW – new coach
UW is new HC, DC and OC.
The UW coach was the D coordinator for a while so there will be much more continuity there
Yeah. Mark Helfrich was the OC then the HC. That turned out awesome.
This is the year Cristobal gets exposed. He inherited a Heisman level/NFL QB who bailed him out.
Beavs win the North.
I don’t see the Beavs beating UW. UW is too physical on the lines.
Alamo Bowl vs Oklahoma or Iowa State is my prediction
Not sure who UW returns, but 19-7 last year, and we have a better overall team.
119 yards of offense vs UW in 2019; 88 pass, 31 rushing. Couldn’t protect the QB. What makes you think that next year will be different, if we lose 3 experienced linemen?
Didn’t they lose a top DL?
2020 continues. Got rearended at 50mph on the drive home today. Car totaled. Back hurts.
Oh shoot
Man hope
You are okay.
Holy crap! Glad you were able to walk away and hope there aren’t any unseen injuries.
That sucks, hope you’re doing ok. Was it just you or was your lady with you too?
Puts sports into perspective; very glad to know it wasn’t worse, but do get checked out anyway.
Holy cow, hope your ok. My oldest daughter hit an elk on the way to the coast yesterday, totaled the car but she’s fine and the elk got up and ran off so I’m guessing its ok too
For the record, instead of going to the ER, I came home and fixed a stiff drink…
Man…..terrifying. I guess I know how I’m spending tomorrow.
Yes, get some medical documentation.
Thanks, buddy. Will do.
Yeah it’s necessary for insurance, if nothing else. My wife used to work in auto insurance and that’s always the first question when anyone has any kind of auto incident. If there’s pain as a result, get it documented by a doctor.
Yeah its better to go get checked out and be sure. Don’t worry about money the other drivers insurance will pick up the tab
They’re boxy but they’re good
Crazy People, haha.
Have you considered a Jaguar? Might not have an easy time convincing Mrs. Angry though.
https://youtu.be/HCiGusVYOgY
Jaguars were my favorite cars as a kid. Had some toy jags. They’re awesome!
Even if you are totally fine getting checked out will probably cause their insurance to offer a bigger settlement.
Anyone have experience with Subaru? Any years/models to look at?
Any other car recommendations? We buy old/used all cash to avoid payments (invest the savings of not carrying a lease into the stock market, way smarter). That’s just how we roll. Cheap/efficient.
Why did someone thumb this down? Lol.
They work in the banking industry and want their 5%?
Good point.
I have a 2016 outback. Never had a problem and works great. Decent storage and we can fit 3 car seats in.
I just posted that concerning our 2005 Outback. $3,300 to rebuild top end of engine too…..yikers!
I’ve owned the following Subarus (in order of preference for overall cost of ownership):
2001 Impreza Outback Sport
2007 Forester 2.5XS
2010 Forester Premium
You are now an honorary lesbian.
Yes I love women….preferably the hot ones!!!!
That’s good info, thanks. What makes one “sport”?
The Impreza Outback “Sport” is nothing more than a marketing thing for Impreza’s between 1995-2002 (approximately). Outback sales doing good at the time, so they called Imprezas “Outback Sport” making the original Impreza look a bit more rugged and off-road — certainly not a “Sport” model with gimmicky/fake shifting that you see in modern Subarus.
Turbo Subarus are a grenade waiting for the most inopportune moment to go off.
Cool, thanks guys. Will go tomorrow.
If it heals, great. If not, I have a paper trail.
Hold out on the other driver’s insurance wanting to settle something quickly. You might have something flare up a few weeks down the road. Also, don’t rule out getting a lawyer in this situation.
Well Angry, you are kick in’ tits in pickem this week, so there is that!!!!
I studied picks for 30 seconds instead of 20! Payoff.
Ha!
Good lord! It’s upset central again this week in college football
It’s interesting how many more “hearts” you get when you say something positive, even if you have as much conviction as reality as something negative.

Leach lost to pigs, pigs end 20 game conference losing streak
Purdy leads Iowa St to the win over OK, crowd sings Sweet Caroline (ba,ba,bam)……….and only two here took the Cyclones in the pick’em.
did anyone post the Beavs schedule?
11/7: Cougs
11/14 U dub
11/21 Cal
11/28 Ducks
12/4 Utah
12/11 Furd
Date listed is a Saturday. Games may be on the Friday before.
Double check. Looks like the intra state battle of ethnic cleansing will be on 11/27
Looks like 6-0:-) seriously
Angry, glad you’re ok! Make sure you get that water in. Sounds stupid, but it helps flush the system. Think seeing a chiropractor or getting a deep massage. It can release some pent up toxins.
Thanks. I don’t think my insurance covers chiro, so I will have to see what my options are there.
i’d try acupuncture before Chiropractic.
Built* up toxins, sorry autocorrect
Pat Casey “undergoing hip replacement surgery on Wednesday”, per Eggers. (no word on wart removal)
Didja know Eggers has his own website? Some interesting stuff there, including this on Casey’s future, ” It wouldn’t surprise me if Casey, 61, takes another college job after the 2021 season. I don’t think he’d coach in the Pac-12, but the Southeast Conference? “
https://www.kerryeggers.com/stories/on-pac-12-football-pat-casey-and-bud-ossey-mlb-to-pdx-erik-spoelstra-and-the-miami-heat-and-chad-doing-and-the-denver-broncos
Oh, and this about football:
“Oregon’s goal this season: Go undefeated and advance to the conference championship game on Dec. 18. Oregon State’s goal: Win four games and make a bowl game for the first time since 2013.”
He’s certainly entitled to his opinion but I’m hoping JS goal is to simply WIN THE NEXT GAME.
JS goal should be to go undefeated and win conference title
One at a time, buddy, one at a time.
I got diagnosed today…whiplash and thoracic and lumbar strains.
For now it’s muscle relaxers, rest, etc. Given this reality, I decided to hire an attorney. Thanks for the tips on that, guys…
Some of that will hurt for awhile. Go easy.
Been looking for a new ride for my kid, found several lower mile volvos under 4k, you shouldn’t have too much issue
Thanks, boss.
Lots of rest. Don’t go back to normal yet or anything that could over exert your body until the pain/soreness goes away.
Does that mean no sex?
Lack of oxygen?
Totally agree with how bad Colorado drivers are. The in-laws live in Ft Collins so I get there every so often. All those people on their phones driving way too fast. In town it seems like 50 is routine on the wide open main straight away streets.
Herbert having another excellent game. Guess hes’ now the starter?
I dont know.. after he started 3 weeks ago the coach said after the game that Tyrod Taylor would still the starting QB.. only reason he isnt was cause he’s out with the punctured lung
Yeah, but his line is great and only in his second start.
18/22 279yards 3td 0int 158.3 rating
Taylor is pretty good, but that’s elite. It will be interesting to see what happens there, but right now Herbert looks to give them the best shot.
He’s definitely got some rookie issues. He scrambles too early pretty often and often will take the first open look even if something better might come up. Pretty lame complaints for a rookie though, I’m impressed.
So close.
Rookie mistake.
Other than that last throw…Have to admit he looked way better than I gave him credit for
@angry and others, if you really like OSU to win the North, it’s 80:1 odds for them to win the conference. I think I could put $100 on that.
Also those WSU odds are comical. Free money at 14:1. Pac12 odds can be laughably dumb.
https://sports.co.betmgm.com/en/sports/football-11/betting/competitions
Is that site legal? I know in CO we legalized gambling on the last ballot.
I might put $100 on that as well. Risk/reward profile is good. What happens if the season is cancelled, though, or any other issues with games cancelled, etc? I haven’t placed an online bet since like 2003.
Damnit Oregon
Anyone know a good Oregon online book? The state hosted one is super limited.
yeah they don’t offer college games do they
Rumor I heard is that ilani (newer casino in SW washington, 1 mile from my house) is making a deal with the MGM sportsbook. Not sure if there will be online options or not.
Is washington allowing sports betting?
Spirit Mountain Casino already has that type of setup with MGM. Only in person betting is allowed and it’s probably a 2 hr drive from your home.
I’m curious if anyone here has checked it out.
https://www.spiritmountain.com/sports-betting
Not yet. I wondered what the huge billboards were about on the interstates in Portland.
I found it disappointing a few years back when Spirit Mountain passed Multnomah Falls as the “most visited” attraction in the state.
Bills score a TD to go up by 7, and decide to kick the extra point instead of going for 2, which would make it a 2-possession game and force the Raiders to change their game plan to something more predictable. Kicker misses the PAT.
I see this both in the college and pro games. Why?
Foles struggling as “the guy”. Teams should just start bringing him in during the 2nd qtr of games.
Excellent! Bears lose.
Zero carries by Beavers despite having two active RB’s.
Should’ve given the ball to Nall or Pierce. Sad!
Another duck opts out for nfl draft. Brady Breeze. 2 starting safeties, 2 starting corners and sewell is a ton of talent to replace on short notice.
Breeze is pretty good, no?
Yeah, he really came on strong toward the end of the year. Was the rose bowl mvp.
All 5 guys are NFL talent, so all pretty big losses
Darn good! With his departure “Oregon has now lost six of its top seven tacklers from last season, who were responsible for 12 of its 20 interceptions, all of its four fumble returns and 28 of its 56 pass breakups.”
He’s a loss for them but legitimate NFL talent? I’m not convinced. Undersized slow white guy sure doesn’t scream NFL caliber safety to me.
He iced the Civil War by recovering the fumble inbounds… Glad to see him out! He was a playmaker
NB, is there any way we can get a transfer DT between now and the start of the season?
Maybe via grad transfer, but plug and play DTs are one of the toughest types of players to find even in a full recruiting cycle. On short notice it’s pretty unlikely they find anybody who could actually make an impact this season.
Trump continues to improve and could be discharged Monday. Woh he really did fake having the virus.
BetOnline has the over/under wins total for Oregon State at 1.5
Yikes, that seems way low and easy money, but I don’t bet on sports.
https://twitter.com/Joshua_Newman/status/1313142356195958785?s=20
And they also have the Dicks at 6 wins… Breaking in a new QB, replacing their entire O line, and 4/7 top tacklers on D including all of their DBs….
If I had money I’d put as much as I could on the OVER for OSU, and UNDER for the Dicks.
Not that it makes a hige difference, but sounds like one of the d*ck NFL opt outs has decided today he’ll come back to play instead. Lennoir
If trends from other schools hold, the majority of those guys will be back.
Seems crazy if you take the over they either go undefeated or you push/lose. You’d be better off just betting the money line every week if you were that confident. That said I do envision some classic P12 refs defending the unbeatens as the season progresses.
Beavs set to get a new commit tonight per the spoiler ball
It’s accurate. A tipster messaged the same info to me yesterday but asked that it remain unreported. I guess the spoiler balls don’t count as a report, technically, so that’s their loophole. Dumb
Does this season count towards years played for football? If so, I’m guessing the 2021 class will stay fairly small given how few guys could decide to come back for an extra season.
Also read lenoir is back for the quacks.
No all athletes in fall sports this year wont lose year of eligibility.. so whatever year they are this season they will be next season also.
One very lucky young man is about to find himself with a 3-star rating!
It’s a 3-star WR don’t get too excited. Nice offer sheet, but we need DTs not WRs.
He’s 6’3″ and a WR from Texas. A great offense can win you some games. I thought you didn’t care about stars???? What’s the film tell you?
Glad half full man, come on!
I meant because he’s not a DT.
Arizona head coach Kevin Sumlin has tested Rona+
I’m actually a little worried with how Covid free OSU. If it does hit OSU eventually, pretty much everybody on the team is suseptible to contracting it. As far as I know, no current players have immunity yet
Yeah, that’s a big concern. Beavs are like an uncontacted tribe in the amazons. Hopefully they will have protocols in place to limit outbreaks.
So does camp start today? Anyone know when it does?
29 days prior to first game, makes it Oct 10?
“…the Beavers will begin a four-week training camp and will be able to begin full-contact practices exactly 29 days before their first game. That’s the same window in which Division 1 football teams are allowed to practice during a normal year. “
https://www.gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/football/osu-football-unconventional-schedule-could-alter-beavers-approach-to-training-camp/article_a86b64fd-0108-572c-9c54-f40f16336e0d.html
I thought I heard barnes say last week they would start oct 9th.
Some highlights of the new commit. Looks solid all around.
https://www.hudl.com/video/3/10441630/5d7d9dc123525c0f909b05f0
Looks like a good athlete with good ball skills. He runs by everyone and breaks quite a few tackles. He plays at a pretty high level in TX, too, so it’s not like he’s playing against scrubs.
Solid commitment.
Future looks like a slot receiver. More quick than straight line fast.
He listed his own 40 time as 4.71.
6’3 slot ?
ESPN says he’s 6’1
CBS spreads are ready for this week.
Simon Sandberg could play inside I think
So to have a shot at all competing at DT in our system you need to be atleast 290 preferably 310-330 range. That makes for a pretty short list based on the current roster (Doesn’t look updated on returning players heights and weights). Comparing to top college 3/4 defenses our line would be DT: 6’0-6’3 310-345 DE: 6’3-6’6 280-310.
Whittley 6’1 333 (Likely out)
Skelton 6′ 302
Bennett 6’1 288
Shippen 6’4 288
Maybe?
Dawkins 6’5 279
Sandberg 6’3 278
Reichner 6’2 275
Anderson 6’4 273
New crystal ball up at 247 for the beavs
What does that mean? Just link us to what you’re talking about.
Oh nice, CJ Baskerville. He has been high on OSU since July. Was planning to visit this fall.
Similar to Valsin, both Texas guys who I had been told would have already committed months ago to OSU, but Coach Smith wanted them to take their visits first. Maybe something changed with Smith’s policy recently, because as far as I know, Valsin didnt ever get to visit and Baskerville hasnt either.
https://247sports.com/college/oregon-state/Season/2021-Football/CurrentTargetPredictions/
Watched his video and he seems pretty well rounded. Very pleased to get another quality safety pickup. One of our least talented positions right now.
He would be the highest rated Safety we have picked up since 2007 (Cameron Collins)
I won’t ever complain about a guy with a ready-made literary nickname.
I going to hound you until you tell me the nickname…
It’s elementary, my dear BG.
It’s only a 3 on the confidence level though so maybe not so fast?? (lee corso voice)
https://247sports.com/Player/CJ-Baskerville-46050158/
You trust 247 more than NB? Come on man!
@AKBeaver, I know. That was a very disrespectful statement haha. My bad NB!
Ha, i do trust the crystal ball picks for the most part. And to be totally honest, I just havent been as into recruiting this cycle as past years. Covid plays into that as well as work and life just being generally busier this year(also thanks to covid)
Hopefully next year will be more back to normal
The 247 analyst who predicted it does have 100% accuracy with his 25 past picks. His confidence in himself should be higher
So the OSU Class for 2021 breaks down like this(so far):
QB-Sam Vidlak (oregon)
RB-Damir Collins (oregon)
WR-Jimmy Valsin (texas)
TE-JT Byrne (california)
OL-Henry Buckles (oregon)
OL-Sione Veikoso (returning from mission) (hawaii)
DL-Omarion Fa’amoe (utah)
LB-Easton Mascarenas (california)
LB-Semisi Saluni (returning from mission) (california)
CB-Jaylen Martin (florida)
CB-Arnez Madison (california)
S-CJ Baskerville(not verbally committed yet) (texas)
Any idea why whiffing on linemen is such a frequent problem for us?
Is it just scarcity? Are skill players just easier to come by?
Beavs have much better luck with projects. Guys who have the height and frame but not the weight yet.
But looking at the roster now. There is some serious beef on the line. 6 guys over 300.
What happened to cooper darling. Says he weighs 350!! Listed at 300 in high school…maybe he should switch sides to nose tackle.
Man he was 310 on signing day. 40 lbs is alot even on a frame like his. Sio is a big guy to at 345.
RIP Eddie Van Halen

That sucks.

Glad Willard retired he was an atrocious looking QB.
Hope we do land a transfer DT with that scholie.
Green is a punter, so I wouldnt think he’d be on scholarship, but this tweet makes ot sound like he is.
https://twitter.com/PuntFactoryAU/status/1310725987617837056?s=19
Hopefully he responds.
https://twitter.com/BeaverFootball/status/1313655281100955648?s=19
How many QBs did GA put on scholarship?
Seth
Moran
Willard
Luton
Am I missing any? I guess 1 for 4 isn’t terrible, but the 3 remaining guys wouldn’t receive a Pac12 QB scholarship for any other team.
Garretson and Blount?
Oh yeah. Yikes
Did he bring in Mitchel or was he a Riley recruit that he kept the commitment with?
Riley
Del Rio?
Seeing all these names that started over the span of a few years reminds me how crucial stable qb play is to give a program a chance at a decent season. Riley wasn’t the best coach ever but he usually had a plan when it came to next up for the qb spot.
Dude had the guts to live his dream at his dream school and survived the GA Experiment. Hard to criticize that.
It’s not his fault GA and McGovern we’re worthless coaches.
Knowing smith, he is working his magic behind the scenes. He has pulled out some surprise transfers over and over.
Curious if it includes a Whitley update?
https://247sports.com/college/oregon-state/LongFormArticle/Oregon-State-Beavers-football-2020-fall-camp-preview-defensive-line-152501636/
Anyone else think its weird that we only offered 2 DT this cycle? It seems like a position of need but we barely offered anyone. Are we using a defensive scheme that isn’t standard 3-4?
Ya I’m curious to tibesar and his philosophy there. Usually u would want a few whittleys or aydons.
stanford d lineman in portal. https://twitter.com/chris_hummer/status/1309612197694320648. https://twitter.com/Dylan_Boles_
Hummer status?? Didn’t know where that link would go…
There we go. DE but he seems big enough to move to DT.
Idk if he would solve any of our problems.
New thread up.
