I won’t be around most of the day, and only will be able to catch the first half of this game.
I’m sticking with 31-21, Beavs. We always play Cal well. Phil Steele has my back, I saw. We can still win the North with a little help!

Golfing at noon today. Thought the beav game was at 4:30 (that’s next weekend). After watching the beavs the last two weekends, I’m sticking with golf at noon.
Wish I was golfing. Snow here
Second!
Was the Alcohol State vs. U of Liver game canceled?
Outdoors today, too nice to watch a couple of bottom dwellers in a meaningless season. I’ll check the game thread to get perspective, results.
Oregon State won’t be within 4 games of winning the North. My prediction is if OSU doesn’t win today they have a a complete breakdown and go 0-6 or 0-7 if the expected game on weekend of Pac-12 Championship is held. Team has recruiting rankings that unlike Oregon which is top 4 in the nation isn’t even Top 100. Teams like Liberty and Coastal Carolina are able to string together long win streaks, but at Oregon State ineptitude is the norm and all too easily accepted. Cal is the one team we play well, but Garbers makes this game a coin flip because because Beavs will lose if Hebbia is again lackluster. Smith is paid almost as much as Cristobal for crying out loud. Today better be a W or this program is going to be in the trough. Time for Barnes to go if team doesn’t win more than 1 game this year. AD has to set standards and expectations. If more was on the line maybe Smith wouldn’t be so careless on when he rolls the dice and would have his team playing better to start games instead of waiting until it is too late.
WUB makes a good point. This blog tends to focus on coaching snafus and misfeasance but in truth we haven’t had an AD with his eye on the ball since Barnhart left. When was that, 2002? Everything flows (downhill) from there.
Cal 38, Beavs 24. Gebbia sucks again when it matters. D can’t get off the field. JS won’t commit to run until it’s too late. Another poor game plan and game choices. Kids start to pack it in. I heard it wasn’t a great week of practice from a walk-in friend of my kid. Coaches had to bust some tail because of effort and focus. Bad sign. I was afraid of this. WSU and UW were must wins. Now it begins to snowball
thanks for the inside info.
Hello all. I have followed you guys for a couple of years and this is my first post. I do appreciate everyone of you and your perspective on the beavers and on their gameplay.
I will admit that I am a duck fan as I grew up in Eugene. I live in Albany now and a lot of my very close friends are diehard beaver fans and I am impressed how much hope and faith they have in their beavers every year only to be let down and disappointed every year.
So for my good friends and all of you here on angry Beaver’s I hope the beavers pull off a win today. You diehard beaver fans deserve much better than what you get year after year. You are some of the most loyal fans I have ever met. More so than a lot of the bandwagon duck fans. Good luck to all of you and The Beavs. Good luck to all of you and the beavers today
if you’re starved for success, crumbs seem sufficient.
Beans always play Cal well?
So they played them well in that 49-7 ass pounding 2 or 3 years ago?
Cal 27, Losers 14
Hired the wrong guy.
This post is not aging well….
First off, Go Beavs! Always!!
Apparently, Cal looked bad last weekend (I didn’t see the game) but their best D Lineman were not available? But of course, they’re back. That could obviously be a problem for the Beavs who have struggled to have consistency on O. Really hoping the offense starts clicking on all cylinders and opening up/spreading out the defense. So my keys to the game:
*Win the turnover battle. This is always a huge indicator of winning versus losing games.
*3rd downs are HUGE (both sides of the ball). The Beavs need to convert on offense and get some stops on defense.
*Versatility on Offense. Someone (or some others), besides JJ need to shoulder some of the load. That being said, the coaches need the right personnel in the game at the right time and….. use horizontal stretch (fly, fake fly, even quick-tunnel screen game) and get the ball into playmakers hands in space
*Players need to show some passion. They look flat from the get go the last two games! Have some God damn fun ;D
Not going to put a score, I know, cop-out. I will say that if the Beavs can do those things, even from a minimal standpoint, they have a good chance to win this game.
Go Beavs!
Wow. Nebraska sucks.
a second team (after OSU) that can’t pull out of a Riley induced tailspin. When a program loses its edge, it’s hard to get it back.
Ha ha! So true. Frost is a good coach too! I’m a little baffled here.
Go Beavs!
Not so sure he is a good coach.
concur, BeeG. I think I’ll check in for a little Big Red Overreaction today to check the temperature back there.
On the other hand, Indiana hanging in there vs. Ohio State
Beaver fans: “Night game start times suck, why do we always get shitty time slots that nobody watches?”
Also Beaver fans: “Afternoon games are a waste of a perfectly good afternoon. I have better things to do with my time than watch Oregon State football.”
Looks like Cal is missing several key players today, especially across the OL
https://twitter.com/calfootballpr/status/1330243599603216385?s=19
“Players not available for today’s game at Oregon State who are on the depth chart are OL Will Craig, OL Jake Curhan, OL Valentino Daltoso, TE Collin Moore, OLB Braxten Croteau, RB Christopher Brown Jr. and NG Stanley McKenzie.”
Where’s the game? I’m seeing the Nebraska game instead.
FS 1
Crappy Nebraska getting blown out still gets better ratings than Beavs/Cal kickoff
Someone mentioned Cal’s d line was depleted. That was true.
Well that’s a nice start
1st play, 75 yard TD run for Jefferson.
7-0 Beavs with 14:42 left in the 1st
Let’s just run Wildcat with Jefferson for the rest of the season lol
Cal had every one up close to the line because they know Gebbia has a weak arm. Heard on the pre game show that his longest completion is 20 some yards.
Yeah yeah.
Time for the Beavs to salvage their season. Clearly not a night team.
TWO TIGHT END SET, Run early, that’s game planning!
Our D is awful. I am seeing a theme with Tisbear… This team with three new lineman just marched down the field.
Wow. Beautiful pitch and catch by Cal there.
Beavs defense showing the bend + break strategy.
Allows Cal to make a methodical 75 yard 8 play drive. Mostly run plays and 2 deep pass plays with fortunate hands by receivers.
Tied at 7
If you want to call it strategy… I call it getting beat lol… I understand playing that way if your offense is great but ours isn’t.
We need some safties so bad. Every 2021 and 2022 scholly needs to go to safties and D Line.
#Truth!
Offensive line is getting great push. I’m gonna have to deal with so many pissed off feelings is they abandon the run as per usual.
Well they kept at it on 3rd and 4.lol.
Sigh
Does Lindgren have full play-call duties?
As far as I know. Offense has felt way different so far this year though. No fly sweeps. No screen passes.
bailed out there on punt return
Not bailed out, the block in the back was at the 10 and *caused* the play.
Huge block in the back.
Love the 3rd down play call… Punter needed some work apparently
bad blocking on that third down. TE missed his block badly and that guy tackled JJ
Wow, just terrible punt coverage by Beavs. So many players with a shot to make a play but not following through.
Bailed out by illegal block in the back, otherwise Call scored.
Gebbia has new long throw of the year. Refs bailout is a 14pt swing
Refs doing their job isn’t a bailout. It was a massive and obvious block in the back that opened the lane.
What bailout? That was a clear block in the back
Good defensive series with strong tackling to stop the first down.
Gebbia with a nice 35 yard throw to QT.
Game looks fine to me so far.
I wish Gebbia was like this all the time lol… Great throw!
Probably will be once he gets locked in and the game slows down.
Think the day game is going to help with all that, but we will see. So far the team looks as I expected game 1, only 2 games late.
I saw the happy feet last week so I agree if the game does eventually settle down. I can remember DA having a killer season and then got smashed around by USC and he was never the same. I am hoping Gebbia can break himself of it.
Another 1 play TD drive. Gebbia to Quitoriano for about 40 yards
35 yards in the air, great placement
Beavs had quite a few fans buy cutouts. Actually way more than I thought they’d get
Ham looks slower to me.this year. He gained 10 lbs and got injured in camp but I’m wondering if he spent touch time adding weight and not enough on speed work.
I agree! He def is not getting the same first step he had last year.
Also he gets double teamed often and we don’t have any other threats inside.
That’s a good point. I only noticed because garbers beat him on an angle. I don’t think garbers does that to him last year. We had 3 DT over 300 lbs last year. That took up pl my of blocks.
Unfortunately I have to leave in a few minutes and won’t catch the rest. Go Beavs.
just to close the loop, from the first segment on Big Red Overreaction today:
“embarrassing,” “sick to my stomach,” “where do we go now since Frost was our last hope,” “our DNA has changed,” “we’re a bad football program,” “team has checked out”, “sucks the joy out of every Saturday”, “no sign of progress,” “the hole keeps getting deeper”, “wasting my Saturdays,” “players don’t have a clue,” “team has no heart.”
Arnold and Austin are both tackling much better this week. They have made good one on one tackles already.
Arnold’s major problem to me is pass coverage. Missed some tackles last week but he always seems 3 steps behind in coverage and in some cases, especially game 1, wasn’t even on the right side of the field.
Is Gumbs ever going to play again? Morris? Feel bad for injuries but damn, some guys are unlucky when it comes to staying healthy.
No clue. With this short year injured guys might as well sit out and come in healthy.
Morris likely for next week. Covid Q will be over then.
Gumbs…….who knows, not counting on him at all.
Hope so for Morris. Feel like the last 2 years has been he’ll be available next week and he’s played like 15 snaps. Was surprised about Gumbs tbh. He was doing some work in camps then all of sudden not healthy again. Hope he can work through it.
9th year Senior Garcia with a really great read on that boot.
Why is Garcia not playing on the line? He can boogie for his size. I like him better there than LB
I think mostly his height. The EDGE position loves tell guys with long arms. Guys on the inside playing DE and NT need to have lower center of gravity or be absolute freaks.
Yeah you see guys like Armstead being so dominant but he is a freak… I just think if you can just take up space our LB’s are good enough to close the gap… What we are doing now isn’t working
Offensive play-calling is so suspect this year, often hard to make sense of what they were going for. It was inconsistent last year with a few big gaffes, but also great at times. Something has changed for the worse this season.
Man, the third down offensive play calls have been HORRENDOUS today.
3rd down hurting in general. Allowing long conversions on defense and suspect offensive calls.
Safties beat yet again. Wtf
Garbers has such a great touch on the ball, and deadly accurate. Without us getting any pressure on him and this is going to get ugly.
Yeah but he’s playing with almost zero pressure. Any QB at this level can deliver balls all day like this when they’re not pressured. There is a huge difference between good and great. I’m not the least bit convinced that Garbers just had a “bad day” against UCLA. Not buying that.
Go Beavs!
Wow teams should always go for it with those numbers
11 straight 4th downs allowed. That feels right.
Great recruiting tool to say we lead the country In a Stat!
You could be the man that ends the streak!
Hey maybe they’ll mess up this review in our favor this time lol
Huge stop! Thank GOD.
Huge to get the pick and get the ball on the 20.
Was that a pick in the endzone by Wright for a touchback?
Or just an incomplete pass?
Looked to be a pick right before they went to the commercial
Pick baby
that’s a stop you can build on.
That’s a pick!
That was an interception, no? That means touchback and Beavs are in business with better field position. Nice job, D!
Yes sir ball at the 25 instead of the 3 or 4.
Looked like it to me too. Don’t think that’s how it was ruled but he looked like he controlled it out of bounds
He picked it right?
What an awful streak on 4th down conversions. Stats vs Beavs would say go for it every time on 4th going forward.
Nice, ruled an INT.
Great play by Wright
Rumbling Jack!
You’d think teams would know Colletto in the ball game means QB sneak
WTF was that play call – again – on third down!? Just inexplicable nonsense from Lindgren and then terrible execution.
There was a quick slant but it got covered. Had to move options and they weren’t on the same page.
Yeah Gebbia can’t make those deep sideline throws… We need short quick passes… Why are we trying to fit a square peg into a round hole? He isn’t Luton with the arm.
the verdict is in: Gebbia has a weak arm. He’s no threat wide across the field or long; his only hope is to run a lot.
Gebbia needs benched.
UCLA up on Oregon first half
They play 2 halves and the Ducks were up. You must have missed the pick 6 to end the half
And our D is terrible… Can’t even beat third stringers, fucking awful
Yeah without big bodies in the middle it’s really rough.
Garbers throws a nice ball and Cal’s receivers have good hands.
I’m jealous
Garbers is a hell of a QB. If he has time all game Cal wins going away.
Fs1 really brought the b squad for the tv production Looks like field cameras only on one side of the field and junior operators. Announcers clearly don’t have spotters so they mix up names.
Any replay reviews will have limited angles. Like we saw last week.
I think part of it is COVID. I’d assume the announcers are not even in the stadium.
Tibesar needs to be benched.
Score doesn’t reflect the game. This is a low key ass whooping right now. They’re almost double the total yds and the penalty on the punt return is a 14 pt swing. Offense had only had 2 plays essentially. Something needs to change.
Oline and QB play are the main problem. Those 6 are getting beat bad.
D is doing fine, just on the field too much.
No you can’t call the block in the back anything but a block in the back lol… Give that up… that being said, these are just two terrible teams… even matchup
Perhaps we’re not watching the same game through the 1st half. Approaching double the offensive yards. Take 2 plays away from the Beavs and the offense has just been terrible.
Why does every other Pac 12 QB look better than the Beavs QBs? It doesn’t matter if they are a transfer, freshman, seniors… They are always better, pretty frustrating
I mean, were oregon state.
My goodness Gebbia is just awful. Totally bailed out by the penalty.
This Beaver offense os hot garbage. OL can’t protect. Gebbia can’t make most of the basic throws and gets his passes tipped regularly. Jefferson has no room to run.
Jefferson just needs to break a few tackles in the backfield and he will be fine. Wheres the same effort!
Is smith seriously preserving clock?
3rd and 14’s are automatic conversions for the opponent. Easy.
The bigger the second number is the higher the probability is. Been true for over a decade for the beavs.
honest question: is Gebbia better than Seth? if the answer is no how far back do you have to go for such QB ineptitude?
Honest answer: Until I see him hurdle I’m not sure.
Seth could run circles around the defense. Had he redshirted his first year and learned he might’ve been serviceable.
Wow, totally out of position. 3rd down defense in the usual abysmal state.
Let’s just cancel the rest of the season. Gebbia is awful and the Oline and Dline is pathetic. Two plays and that’s it for the offense. Cal offense missing virtually all their oline and OSU defense can’t stop crap on third down..i hope cal crushes OSU in the second half.
Wow. What a great fan. Lmao
Why we giving up 8 – 14 yds on slant passes on 3rd down?
Only 21 more consecutive losing seasons and the beavers can match their NCAA record 28 consecutive losing seasons. Lol
#Goals
CAL with 317 yards and 20 points at the half. WTF.
Jefferson with 6 yards on his last 6 carries.
I don’t mind some excitement from announcers but man these guys are over the top every single play. Going to have to mute the 2nd half
I always mute the TV and sync up the radio broadcast. Works great. Radio is usually a little behind but if you have a dvr, just pause and let it catch up.
Go Beavs!
This is Fuckin’ UGLY!
Go Beavs!
There are some really piss poor coaching errors on defense. Cal is running slants almost every time on 3rd and anything over 1! It’s completed easily because no defenders are re-routing the receivers! Fuck. This is so basic, it’s ridiculous! Get your hands on the receivers to disrupt timing. Garbers is not very good but he is putting on a clinic. Looks like 7 on 7 out there.
Go Beavs!
70 yards passing, first half. JJ beat that total right out of the gate. Man, we were really deluded by last year’s game vs. Oregon. He was under no pressure that game; zero expectations of him.
hell, even F. King Alexander (half time interview on radio) know’s what up. “People open over the middle, need to loosen up.” That’s the problem. Gebbia plays “tight.” the moment seems too much for him. King then adds: “we need to look for more than one receiver.” Maybe he should coach and Smith can become President.
Good news is, if we can scrape together 17 more yds passing we can beat last week’s total! Things aren’t looking that bad after all.
I miss the Gebbia of last year who was obviously better than Luton. He was a “gamer”. He had “it”. He was more mobile and athletic and could scramble when needed. The coaches were just too stupid to see it and instead played Luton all year out of sheer stubbornness. This year he sucks. I’ve never seen a player take such a huge step backwards. Looking back, I realize that that was the first real indicator that JS didn’t know what he was doing.
It is interesting that Luton is far more mobile and elusive in the NFL than he was in college. How does one explain that?
Better blocking?
My problem with luton was that once he started getting hit his eyes dropped and his game really stepped back. Makes sense with his injuries but it really hurt us.
When he was on he was great.
Yeah, you’re right as Luton threw 28 tds to 3 picks.
Exactly, last year’s Gebbia would have had 56 tds and no interceptions had he played instead of Luton. You could tell just by watching his body language on the sidelines. JS wasted his special year, and now he’s lost it.
Sarcasm lives LOL….
And couldn’t win
He threw 4 picks today
I don’t get why we don’t toss other guys in. Gebbia is playing badly, let someone else play bad.
TOP in first half: Bears 21 minutes!
Well our offense only takes about 30 seconds off the clock either way.
Here comes another slant.
Slants and fades. Only need 2 routes.
Bring in chance Nolan….you got nothing to lose.
Great touch on that deep ball Tristan
Gebbia doesn”t know how to put air under the ball on the deep pass.
I don’t know if he can. Takes more strength to add more arc.
He threw a great deep ball in High School. Wonder if nerves/pressure of being the starter is really getting to him, he seems super tense, everything coming out flat.
Either way if he can’t figure it out you gotta yank him.
Beason with a clutch catch to move the sticks. Smith goes for a field goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JHC!
Go Beavs!
Mighty ucks vs DTR-less Bruins have a 3 pt lead halfway through 3rd qtr.
Swoosh money has them at #11 in national standings ???
Man the PAC 12 is soooo piss poor! It’s really hard to believe how bad the cponference is!
Go Beavs!
Cookus done after this year you think? Tibs getting quotes from Mayflower? Feels like some shake ups needed.
And bradford goes for 35 on return. Must have saw your comment.
Ha! Cal is running the ball just to give the passing game a breather! Eff me! This is GA bad!
Go Beavs!
Go Bruins!
Go Beavs!
Kick coverage has been less than stellar.
Gebbia looks way to mechanical and forced. Passes are wobbly and too high or behind — it’s like one thing gets off and the whole motion is tortured.
He was my one major concern going into this season. Definitely thinking too much! about a half a second or more late on decision making. He’s an average at best scramble guy playing in a gun slinger offense. There is nothing special about his game IMO.
Go Beavs!
If you’re Cal, don’t you go for it all the time? Pretty clear Beavs defense is leaking badly. Other than the LBs who are playing very well.
What is with J Irish? Man! Fastest guy on the field, yet can’t break into the rotation at WR?
Go Beavs!
Is he on the field? Only thing I can think of is he sat out.
He’s playing on SP teams only!
Go Beavs!
I don’t get it. He’s lightening in space.
These announcers from pro wrestling or something?
“This guys tougher than Walrus gristle”
There ya go! Change it up!
Go Beavs!
Maybe Gebbia should switch to play receiver. Lol
What? An aggressive call from JS?
What? Success……finally
Whoa. Creative play calling? Something strange going on.
How will the D perform!?! Need 3 and out! Maintain pass rush contain responsibilities and take ’em down! A punt would be amazing!!
Go Beavs!
There ya go!
Go Beavs!
Crowd noise generator is really getting to me. No boos at all. Sound engineer has never been to Reser.
I like the Julian kid. This game he has been around the ball quite a bit!
If the offense can use the run to set up some PA Pass, it could be a good build on the lead?!
Go Beavs!
Beavs defense didn’t make a good play – Cal defense miscommunicated. Of course, I would like the Beavs to win but the bonus would be to shut up these fing announcers.
Gebbia looks a lot better throwing on the move
Hmmm
Spoke too soon
Jinx!
Where’s Chance Nolan?
Go Beavs!
“All we are saying….is give Chance a chance.”
Yikes what a terrible decision.
This is where a team that does not “know how to win” is likely to fold. We’ll see.
Can’t get out of our own way!
Go Beavs!
NOLAN TIME!
I’ll kindly shut the F up now
Well the pass itself was nice just shouldn’t have thrown into triple coverage. Lol
Gebbia’s biggest problem is that when there’s nothing there he doesn’t just duck and run (so to speak)
Just kind of passing in general seems to be a weakness.
Uncatchable!
Go Beavs!
ok. Here’s a moment to remake yourself and your season. a long, clock-burning drive ending with a score with less than 30 seconds left in the game. Let’s see it happen.
that possession says it all; when you need it the most you get nothing.
Should Lyndsay be our new qb?
There’s an old saying, basically when, “you keep trying the same thing and it’s not working and you expect a different result… that’s the definition of “insanity”
Go Beavs!
So you’re saying Beaver football fans are insane….
He’s soooooooo indecisive
Doubtful he’s ready, but I’m onboard with giving Nolan a series or two.
is this Gebbia’s last year or will he be back next year?
He’s a RS Jr
Hate to ask him what he wants for dinner.
second game in a row the D has played somewhat respectably.
I agree. With the interior issues you can’t expect much more.
…D has played somewhat respectably
Particularly true of the second half, giving up total 10 pts in second half over the last two games…..speaks to Tibs halftime adjustments?
JS post-game: “I have full confidence in Tristan going forward and we are going to look at film and see what can be improved.”
New nickname for our back-up qb: Nolan not a Chance
Wow.d comes thru.
Everyone knows Swammi loves the D. In his mouth
Irish just handed Gebbia a huge gift. Better capitalize
Great play by irish!
Irish showing his hands and why he’s not in the wr rotation. Didn’t catch that punt.
Ha ha
Go Beavs!
Can’t score too quick! LOL
Go Beavs!
Jefferson almost has more yards than Gebbia for the second week in a row.
Gebbia with the hat trick today. That’s something.
1 pass TD
1 receiving TD
1 rushing TD
Time for Garbers to slice and dice our secondary.
Concerning with how much time is left!
Go Beavs!
Cal now on the long, clock burning drive to score near the end of the game Beavs needed on possession before the blocked punt,
time for the Beavs D to rescue the situation
Prevent win defense now?
Dunn kind of looks lost out there right now.
Ffs
Wow
Battle of the Pac12 basement dwellers. What a win!
Better than a loss. Your Ducks eeked out a win over a UCLA team missing 9 players including their starting QB.
Nice comeback. The troll had nothing else.
The Ducks were down more than 9 players, Verdell played the equivalent of 1 quarter and Noah Sewell got injured and is probably done for the year. Still won.
Against UCLA, missing their starting QB. Cry me a river!
Go Beavs!
Wow! McCartan!
Holy shit that was crazy. The d came through in crunch time. Nice
Fuck cal score on them.
OOBie’s guys on Tibs’s D came through
Never a doubt!
Arnold with the tip to McCarten who knows the tip drill and how to protect the ball.
Official, jefferson out gains gebbia two weeks in a row. That said Gebbia got player or the game from FS1
well, he did get the hat trick
We have a win streak now. Sweet.
Go Beavs. Great game. One thing – Parker referred to the press box as the Darrell Aune Press Box – when did that happen? Aune made those horrible Beaver years entertaining at least.
Man! Great work pulling out the win but…… unfortunately some revelations occurred from this game. First, the Bears and the Beavs are cellar dwellars in a terrible conference. Gebbia is a sub par QB, especially for this team. The defense is very soft! I can’t believe it but Vegas may have been correct, saying Oregon State will only win one but I agree at this point. Celebrate the win! Love to see the Beavs win but in terms of a season, majorly disappointing!
Go Beavs!
No doubt your comment from the beavers win Is “they aren’t that good” hahaha. Go beavs indeed! Glad you can grit through the beavers winning!
Yeah let’s sugar coat this mofo! Best team in PAC 12. Look out National Championship, here come the Beavs. The coaches are doing a great job with personnel, game management and play calling. What was I thinking?! We just beat “the” Cal Bears.
Tool!
Go Beavs!
I’m very glad the Beavs won the game but I still wasn’t very impressed on either side of the ball. Outside of Jefferson and Spieghts we are lacking good players.
Roberts is fun to watch imo
Special teams looks decent!
The SP Teams has been good! From Bradford’s hustle play last week (@ UW), to this week’s block!
I want to say, that absolutely hate saying this (about the season) but it’s the truth! Makes me sick to my stomach to see how bad this team is after last season’s positive upward trend. But here we are :(
Go Beavs!
To clarify, I hate saying how bad this Beaver team is overall! Not that the SP Teams is playing well. Just clarifying!! :)
Go Beavs!
Exactly. Major disappointment.
Big props to special teams today! This would be another loss without great field position and the BLOCK!
Ooosssssuuuu
Who picked the beavs in the pick em?? Gotta be right eventually!
Gebbia with a qb rating of 26. This is not the offense I would choose if I was a good wr. Beason has to be thinking this is who will be getting me the ball for the next 4 years? There has to be a better option out there. The players have to be wondering as well.
Hes a RS junior. Hows he gonna be around four more years?
Just got home. I see we won, close to the score I predicted! Yet, I still see people complaining…why?
@ab, smith went for a field goal on 4th and 4 ish!
Thats progress.
How sad.
Give me a run down. I saw until 14-10.
It was a shit show. Go read the drive charts.
Not sure how that matters. Maybe you guys are more invested in it having watched it. But I see a 1-2 team that needs to win a game and turn around their season. And they did the first part. Confidence can carry over and winning is contagious. I don’t see the reason to be so upset.
Special teams bailed-out the offense big time….setting up short field position three or four times for an inept offense that was vanilla and outplayed — Gebbia with two INTs and is a liability now. Looked like more of the same from the first two games, lots of long dry spells for the offense and the defense bend don’t break came up with an interception inside the 10 yard line with one minute to play. Time to give the keys over to Chance Nolan!!!
Defense played fine. Offense was once again mostly anemic and ineffective. A great return by bradford and a punt block by Irish saved the game. Jefferson got about 60 yards on a run in garbage time.
Gebbia also threw one of the worst ints I’ve seen in awhile.
Jefferson got about 60 yards on a run in garbage time.
Not so fast, my friend. There is NO SUCH THING as garbage time for these Beavs, no lead is safe, certainly not a 4 pt lead!
The end of the game yards came when they were expecting and selling out to stop the run. I was actually more impressed with the blocking and runs when they needed it the most
in the second half the D played better than “fine”; they played well.
“…don’t see the reason to be so upset.”
Darn JS with his trick plays! lol
Seriously, very nerve wracking enroute to the W.
360yds total offense vs 439 for Cal
TOP: Beavs 22, Bears 38
Over 160 yds combined KO and punt returns for the Beavs
Never showed ability on O to grind out a drive
Nice to see some 2TE sets
I was thinking the same thing about lack of any sustained drives and then they went on about a 6 min drive for a FG in the 3rd quarter. They stopped trying to go deep and threw 8-12 yards passes and mixed in some runs. That’s what the offense should be.
Forgot about that, I stand corrected.
More on that 6 minute drive:
53 yds, 13 plays
5 pass attempts (1 incomplete), 7 rushes including Gebbia 3yd sneak for a 1st down.
Used 3 receivers, avg 8.5yd/completion
Rushes avg 2.7 yd
Caught the second half so I missed some ugly football I guess, but I was happy. Gebbia still meh.. his body language is almost as bad as Luton’s… FTD
We need to change qb’s. Gebbia has had his chance and is regressing.
that’s the unfortunate thing about the Special Teams, D late, and Jefferson early, bailing out Gebbia. It provides cover for another inept performance.
Kid is making bad decisions!
No run down would be complete without mention of Colletto converting a 4th and 3. Made it so clear that even the zebras couldn’t steal it, he’s not just a 2-3yd back anymore!
Jeff Colletto lol
Ya know, I was a little hard on the staff for how much they played JC at LB in the first game! But I do have to say that I completely respect him (Jack Coletto). He is doing everything he’s asked! He plays hard. I really think that he would be a great H-Back/TE type. He would be great for motion “wham” blocks (lead blocks) in the run game. But he could also be used in the receiving game and even as a passer in certain packages. Just no more on defense.
Go Jack!
Go Beavs!
Shocked Gebbia threw to Beason today. He must not have heard about Beason’s dad or relative blasting Gebbia on one of the paid sites earlier this week.
Interesting do share?
nice moniker, Logs. truly.
Gebbia has a passing, rushing, and receiving TD??
Gebbia had some really good stuff but also really bad stuff.
let’s get real. Gebbia had one nice throw for the second TD, and he had one nice drive for a FG. both in the first half I believe. Otherwise he profited from Jefferson’s opening TD, a punt block late, and an INT late to save the game. If Cal had scored there anyone confident Gebbia could have driven down the field for a game tying field goal. His worst series was the one late, just before the D forced a Cal punt which was blocked. Jefferson did all the work to get the winning score on a short field.
Good points.
(Drive was in 3rd qtr)
The offensive line did not fair well. Don’t let JJ’s numbers fool you. High because he gashed them several times. Most of the time he and our other running backs got stuffed at the line.
This^^^^^
I’m not a coach and don’t have a coaches eyes but I could tell almost every offensive play when they lined up if it was going to be a run or pass. The only that surprised me was the trickery Gebbia touchdown.
Completely agree.
any stat guy out there capable of providing the number and distance of Gebbia completions to WR’s. Not Tight Ends. WR;s. I don’t think we’ve seen a Beav QB with less ability to stretch a field since before Smith was QB. That would be okay if Gebbia moved the chains consistently, sorta like Boise QB’s do historically. Gebbia has 3-4 three and outs every game.
For this game or the year?
Year: 38 – 349 yds 9.2 yds per reception, 62% of Gebbia’s passing yards.
Found this on Twitter, crazy!
Oregon State won 31-27 today, which is the first time in the 126-year history of Beaver football that OSU has won a game by that score
https://twitter.com/BrightTies/status/1330306437290090496?s=09
I was impressed with coaching today. JS best game. Committed to run. Play action. Tried not to let Gebbia lose it… although he almost did. 2nd INT was really bad at the worst time. Lucky to come back from that mistake. D played solid game. Made plays. Special teams had great day… when is last time that happened. Might have been difference. Jefferson and Oline put game away at end… always good to end in victory formation after couple 1st downs and forcing all time outs. Easier said than done. To beat Oregon, Gebbia has to be better and we have to continue to commit to run, play conservative… nice to see JS take points and kick FG to make it 20-17. I was thinking he might not be able to help himself and cost us again.
JS needs a posture coach. TV shows only glimpses of him so perhaps he’s animated at other times. But the clips I see – head down, shoulders rounded, don’t look very inspiring.
That sounds like a certain someone who road his bike to work.
I just found out that my neighbors (especially the wife) are good friends with the Riley family. Attended his sons wedding.
Damn, I really don’t want to have to move!
As the kids would say, this post is low-key fire
bet bet
no cap
I’ve heard multiple people compliment the special teams today. Didn’t special teams give up some big returns by cal? I know they were called back by a penalty but those were lucky because otherwise special teams would have been terrible. Block punt is huge but I wouldn’t say they were great.
Well in both cases the crease was made by the penalty so not really luck.
Made FG, all extra points, blocked punt, nice kick return and punt return, couple nice punts, good coverage on kickoffs/punts. Both penalties were the correct calls. Hard to argue that this was our best special teams effort in a long time.
D played solid?
You must have missed all those 3rd down conversions the last 3 weeks.
This defense is meciocre at best, trending towards terrible
They held in the red zone several times, though. That’s probably the best we can live with at this point.
Yep D was solid IMO. Garbers and his receivers executed in 3rd down but we made enough plays to win.
So, what will the line be for the CW?
And, how many points do you need in order to lay down some cash?
Right now I’m thinking there’s about a 40% chance Beavs get blown out, 30% a close loss, 25% a close win………leaves 5% for a big Beav victory.
I’ll guess +11. No money, no way for me anymore with the Beavs. Only way I could wager on them is to win. Don’t need my heart and wallet broken most Saturdays
This is a very sad thought, but I am curious?! With this generation of “instant gratification”, do any guys start opting out? That would be shitty but ya never know anymore?! And the season looks to be a loss at this point (probably the only victory at this point). Just a thought.
Go Beavs!
Still with the negative posts I see. Still don’t believe ya
I really don’t give a shit what you think man! I don’t have to prove anything either. Why don’t you go over to Benny’s House or one of those boards where all they do is kiss each others asses and tell each other how great everything is going?! You obviously don’t understand the concept of this board.
Go Beavs!
Anybody got link to post game presser?
Sure do.
Do we have to adjust our expectations for A good defenses when It comes to sports? How many games are won 40 something to 30 something? Ohio state won 42-35 today. Clemson scores a lot but gives up a lot. Seems like the rules have changed for sports to allow more points to be scored and make it harder on the defense. I guess maybe the beavs defense isn’t as bad as I have been thinking. It’s the big miscues that get old. I guess it’s hard when you have
Confusing offenses and new players to break in. Anyone else been noticing this? Curious the average points scored by teams and how it’s changed over the years. Even more reason to have a good qb.
Interesting. Here’s the 2019 numbers.
https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/2019-team-defense.html
I had assumed they had improved more than 106th in 2019, still awful, but I think the sacks and TFL’s helped the numbers not seem so bad.

Is Oregon State football going to ignore the elephant in the room. The team has been playing there butt off. The quarterback play has been dismal for a reason. Gebbia can not throw the ball off platform. Meaning if he has a clean pocket he can make the throw. He can not by time and move around and throw off platform. He is the slowest player on the field. He can not throw on the run to his left nor to his right. He can not make any throws deep down the sidelines outside thr numbers. He can not bust any 15 to 30 yard runs when the defense goes man and he has a clear path to run. He can not out run any defensive lineman. There are four games in a row that proves his in ability to create anything positive under duress. The offensive coordinator has to play it safe to protect him. Why have they not gone to there back up Chance Nolan. Nolan can throw on the run exceptionally well. He can get the ball deep down the field. And, he can run. He eas the number one dual threat jc recruit. Oregon State is proving they are a losing program unwilling to make changes to a far superior talent. Start asking the players out there. They all know Nolan has far superior skill set that will get you 45 points a game. Also, it will have gotten the Beavs to a 3-0 start. Why has the coaching staff allowed these poor kids to lose. If this was the SEC, coaches would be fired. There was a reason Nolan had offers from Utah, UCLA, Oklahoma State and 20 other D1 football programs. Look at Chances film. This kid has all the tools to be great. Why have they not allowed him to play?
Still learning the playbook?
As a redshirt junior Gebbia could be next year’s quarterback? Why would Nolan stay? Pity. Gebbia has no confidence – with good reason.
With this season not counting against eligibility, Gebbia will be here for 2021 and 22 if he wants, right?
The second INT was bad, although Matt Moore, Sean Canfield, and Lyle Moevao have thrown far worst interceptions in past seasons. Gebbia really needs to rush for whatever yardage is available on rollout plays, because this team is not good in 2nd or 3rd and long situations. Not having Hodgins is becoming more glaring with each week.
Beavs showed plenty of resolve today, which is really important for team morale. I know it’s Cal but considering they got punched in the mouth in the first game, and lost a winnable game against a far superior opponent in UW, it’s good to see them pull out a victory where they had to fight for 60 minutes.
There are talent deficiencies in this team, but Smith and company are doing a decent job covering those holes, particularly on defense. Third and fourth downs are problematic, but that’s balanced by solid red zone defense.
I think the playcalling is a bit predictable. We have the personnel to utilize fullbacks in the run game. In the first game, there were several WR screens; calling a jailbreak or TE screen would keep the defense off balance. I don’t see many read options; when the offense does not have a reliable target like Hodgins was, it would be nice to have that added dimension to the offense. A WR sweep would also be nice once in a while.
Perhaps we’ll see a wider variety of plays called against Oregon. They key is to make sure their offense stays off the field, because it looks like a complete mismatch on that side of the ball. Maybe the defense will get three or four stops against a pretty competent QB and run game.
yeah, play calling was pretty vanilla outside of the throwback pass. I did like the QB sneak. Exactly the right call there.
Seems smith went to teagan on pass plays instead of Musgrave And I don’t blame him after the drops last weekend.
With all the small WR’s, the team is going to need Musgrave to step up. TE’s are going to have to be a dependable weapon. Smith needs to get a couple of taller WR’s for next season, it’s the way the game is played now. I think the passing game is at a disadvantage currently.
Completely agree that the staff needs to use more horizontal stretch in the run game (fly sweep, tunnel screens, even bubble-I have mentioned this in previous posts). I think a wrinkle that might play to Gebbia’s strength is to put in an option package. Some; speed option, basic read option, with some fly sweep wrinkles. It’s not that difficult. Gebbia could use his ability to run a bit and it would be another way in the ground game to keep some pressure off of JJ. The other thing is that it forces the defense to play assignment football (players are assigned to cancel possible ball carriers) which brings defenders up with play fakes (option action). This offense doesn’t use a FB but I think a guy that could be an H-Back type would be Coletto. This would fit his game and also, he could be used as an extra passer (trick play). There are options (pun intended) for this team. :)
Go Beavs!
I saw some of the Oregon game vs UCLA. Beavs should be double digit underdogs.
It’s going to be tough for the Beavs to defend that RPO offense. CBs are going to be lit up all day. And with vanilla playcalling on offense, Oregon’s defense will be flying to the ball.
So the coaches will really need to come up with a game plan to be effective on defense and throw a few curve balls on offense. They aren’t going to give up those big runs. Gotta be creative to get guys ball in space.
For how much bigger quacks lines are then Beavs, last year smith found a way to be competitive on both sides of the ball. We shall see. Anyone heard about Hamilcar’s injury? He hasn’t been very effective.
He ended up returning to and finishing the game
I’m starting to think the weight gain has actually slowed Hamilcar down. It’s the only conclusion I can come to after seeing him try to make plays in space.
Should start Chance to create more options. Gebbia will be easy for UO to defend.
Not really. Oregon’s defense is very bad and just got worse with the loss of Sewell
The D’s motto should be……..We make the impossible possible.
How many third and forever’s did Cal convert?
^^^^This…..every time it was 3rd and 10+, I would tell my wife, “damn, if they could get to 3rd and 5….Beavs have a chance to stop”. It’s like the longer the 3rd down, the easier for opposing teams to convert…. has to be the worst 3rd down defense in the nation.
I don’t know why a defense can’t come out motivated from the get-go? In the first half, even on short-run plays, Cal was getting an extra two or three yards. I was shouting at the TV, “stand that fucker up and knock him back”. And then it actually started happening in the second half. Motivation is a weird thing.
Couple thoughts the morning after. You know you are a Beaver fan when the day after they win you are only kind of happy because you know they didn’t BEAT the other team, they just won. They won against a team whose QB was having his first outing of the season and who was working behind an offensive line that was pieced together this week. Yet Cal had more first downs, more total yards, more penalties, and more time of possession. Props for pulling it off but I was really hoping for a team that was going to continue building on last year. Both sides of the ball look worse and don’t pass the eyeball test. I’m pessimistic for the remainder of the season.

Beavs always get killed by QBs in their first ever start or first start in forever.
The Ducks faced an inexperienced QB who performed decently yesterday, but as more often than not, they found a way to win.
It was not his first start of the year and he was their main starter last year. The issue is the coverage. CBs played soft and dline didn’t generate a good pass rush and get him out of his rhythm.
Oregon is not that good, but I don’t see the Beavs having a shot. Their RBs are too fast for our D. That’s the major problem.
Oregon is not that good
No kidding. I considered starting a thread titled, “Reason to Believe?”
Consider that the ucks have faced two backup QB’s in their three wins.
Consider they’ve lost 4 fumbles and had 2 interceptions so far (Beavs 1 lost fumble, 3 ints).
Note that Cal was predicted to be #2 in the North and that Garber was, I believe, the most experienced PAC QB playing yesterday.
At that point I began to run out of reasons to believe, but consider what Eggers said,
“‘@BeaverFootball prevails despite Cal’s big edge in first downs (24-16), total yardage (439-360), passing yardage (315-155) and time of possession (38:06 to 21:54).
Just win, baby.”
Yup, just win, baby!
Penn State 0-5 for first time ever…
Michigan’s Harbaugh celebrating after barely beating Rutgers, and M has a losing record…apparently one message board post was “That was a heck of a pillow fight” — The Wolverine ”
Nebraska in a tailspin under Frost, who, along with the Nebraska administration, vigorously advocated for football this fall.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/columnist/dan-wolken/2020/11/22/nebraska-getting-trolled-illinois-adds-scott-frosts-misery/6381536002/
#TPB, Husker Nation was acting like it was a significant win to beat winless PSU last week and then they were completely dominated by a shitty Illini team yesterday. So fun to see!
I wonder if they’ll run Harbaugh out of town.
Penn State can’t fire their coach unless some super rich donor helps out. He just signed an extension at the beginning of the year. This is the firing clause “If he is fired without cause, Penn State owes Franklin the current year’s guaranteed compensation times the remaining length of the contract.”. That’s about 20 plus million if fired now.
Nebraska is probably delusional right now. Still believing in their golden boy. The only way to rebuild that program is to spend money on other things like recruiting, facilities, etc. Coaching changes won’t help that much.
JS has been sitting on multiple packages and waiting to drop them on Ducks to ruin their dream season once again. Gebbia has been instructed to play at a slower pace to appear to be less than the stellar qb he is. JS has a long game strategy by Beavs in a year that will be a mulligan no matter the outcome. JS is looking at the Duck game as Dee used to, the only reason to live in the state. If JS pulls a rabbit out of the hat and beats the ducks, he is good for another 2-3 years. All players will return for next year and Beavs will rise again in 2021…
Is weed legal in Ohio?
Still think Tua has a shot? Have you checked “Hubert’s” numbers today? Lmao
Against the worst team in the league. Congrats to him i guess. At least there’s one team shitter then his that he can beat.
ROY. Suck on that. Highly accurate.
Herbert will be ROY. He’s played great and far surpassed my expectations. I thought he had bust written all over him but I was wrong and that was pretty apparent as early as his first start. I’ve got no issue calling em like I see em. Herbert will break a very long time-honored tradition of highly-touted Ducks QBs busting and faceplanting at the next level.
Troll: you’re right about Herbert and anyone arguing with you is being dumb. You’re wrong about most of the rest of the drivel you’ve been spewing lately.
Ha ha! That would not surprise me. The “mulligan” part does seem a little bit applicable here. I’m wondering why everyone (coaches and players) just feel like they’re going through the motions? This could be why. However, if he (JS) was hedging his bets on this, he has to realize that some of these guys are going to want to leave after this season. There are a lot of reasons to stay, and I want them to stay but reality is a whole other thang. Guys who can make it in the league, wanna get paid! I get it. There are a lot of missing pieces (Gumbs, Harrison, Lowe, DT with the heart tumor-sorry I can’t remember his name). But if this is your attitude, thought process as a Head Coach (to just use this as a mulligan), IMO that’s a huge red flag!
Go Beavs!
I don’t think they can count on David Morris for anything moving forward.
At this time it is almost certain Morris will be available for the CW.
Question is, is it in the best interest of the team for him to start; ahead of Arnold, Grant, even Julian?
Dreamer proving once again that the only reason the Bevs suit up year after year is to try and beat the Ducks. It’s their Super Bowl even in a year where nearly every team is decimated by injuries or Covid or both
Well it is a rivalry game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-b0760q52s&t=902s. players post game
Matt Ryan sucks
Always great heading into civil war week coming off a win!!
A couple takeaways. Julian seemed to be everywhere, but where was he the first two games? Stover, from Medford, is huge, literally.
Definitely more blitz packages, especially from the safety, Arnold. His blitz at the end that caused the int was huge, and jumping up instead of trying to hit the qb showed some football smart, not very common for a Beaver.
Quitoriano showed way more athleticism then I ever gave him credit for. He’s a legit downfield threat. Musgrave still has butterfingers, and caused the first int. The second int was just awful, Gebbia can work, as long as he doesnt cost us the game with mistakes like that.
Go Beavs!!!
Julian is a guy I had pegged as a definite starter. Sounds like Smith made another personnel error.
Interestingly, Daschel has an article over at The Oregonian talking about social media pointing out Gebbia’s shaky performances and he says that Smith is the type of coach who won’t hesitate to make a change, but that Gebbia is doing well enough at this point.
Musgrave has bad hands yes…but I’d still blame that first INT on Gebbia. It was a bad pass, way too high (and there was no reason for it to be high). I’m not sure it was even catchable, but if it was it would have been a great catch and not an expected catch.
Are (transfers) WR Harrison and T Lowe eligible this Friday or after the ‘uck game?
Go Beavs!
Last 2 games of the year
I was told a couple months back that Lowe had a knee procedure of some sort during the offseason and wasnt expected to be available at all this season, even if given eligibility. Haven’t seen anything official about it, but trust the person who told me.
Treshaun I believe would be available as of 12/5
Luton 3INTs and a 13 QB rating. 13!!
Whats the lowest qb rating every? Could he have a new record.
I’m not sure, but he has to be up there! So much for the Luton talk…
was there ever any talk? The only talk I heard was wait til he has to face the Steelers.
yeah what talk?
After his first game, and second pass and his TD run, there was some raving about him by the Luton bulls. Let’s not rewrite history.
oh you mean on the message board here and not NFL press?
Correct.
Name some names
I don’t remember who, but it was the Luton pumpers.
Not sure what it is but I think it was Rex Grossman
Angry won’t be satisfied until this guy is retired and is at home with CTE! Which he looks to be heading that way after today lol… But after this season you realize the Beavs just have terrible qb’s all around
4 int*
Somehow his rating went up.
Is the opposing QB loaning him some points?
Hey Angry, guess who is back with a different name and most likely a new device trying to hide his identity?
Did Nelson get any of those INTs?
Jake in a generous Christmas mood early…everybody rushes Christmas anymore, they haven’t waited for the Thanksgiving weekend for years.
I’m a huge Steeler fan! Have been for a few decades now (Rod Woodson the original #26 and why I use “26”). I had big vested interest in that game. I’m glad the Steelers won, of course :). But I’m also a Luton fan. First, you have to understand how bad Jacksonville is (missing players and lack of talent all the way around). Second, the Steelers’ D is absolutely lights out. TJ Watt is an absolute beast. Then you throw in the other LBs ( backups included) who all can fly around and are physical. Then they’re D Line is one of the best/most active in the league. Then you have a rookie (Luton) who is playing his second full game in the league?!!? That’s a rough curve lol.
Go Steelers!
Go Beavs!
Steelers are the best D in the league right now, hands down. Tough matchup for any QB, let alone a new QB on a poor offense.
That said, Luton still played really, really badly. He was surprisingly effective in his first few games but I don’t see him being a long-term solution for anyone. I could see him settling in as a backup that sticks around for a while.
Daschel tweets:
Ducks open at 16 1/2 point favorites over Oregon State. No way that one holds. It’ll be 12 to 13 by kickoff.
As I remember, line for ucks/UCLA went from 13 to 17
BREAKING: S W O O S H
SI has ucks at #10…in the Nation! Money talks!
Wilner has ucks at #18, check must not have cleared.
Ducks are 3-0. Your team is 1-2 and struggled against the 2nd worst team in the Pac besides the Bevs. Smack talk ever get old after 11/12 losses?
And your team struggled against a UCLA minus their start QB and 9 other players. LOL
Ducks have more than 9 players out. Cal missing quite a few too and still almost won. I don’t see your point. Lmao
What are you, 12 years old? You probably think the Ducks have a chance to be in the playoff too?! Hilarious!
Go Beavs!
You also listen to Daschel who predicted Kelley was a draft pick and “the best shot blocker in the nation”. Turns out he’s just a project. Lmao
Ah, look who is back for a repeat performance after Angry banished you from this forum. It appears as though you must have purchased a new device. Good for you kid, good for you. I knew you couldn’t resist staying out of a Beaver blog. Some things just never change do they…..plus a nifty new name to go along with your nifty new device.
Your male lover?
I just want to apologize to everyone on this blog. I did some acid with Bill Walton while listening to The Grateful Dead last night… I realize money isn’t everything now and really all Oregon successes are because of the machine… Before they had money they struggled too… I hope you all forgive me
We also haven’t really won a championship in football… So I don’t know why we think we are so superior… we always point to track and field but who cares about that
Awwww. Looks like a triggered beav stole my moniker. So flattered. Share the acid please. Thanks Swammi or black bandit for being so easily triggered
Rankings are particularly meaningless this year….what’s the context this season with so many games cancelled, scheduled a few days in advance, so many rosters depleted…etc.
what would a football weekend be without a go for it on 4th on the plus side of 50 with the lead? Indy just converted in that situation rather than turn the ball over to Rodgers. The chart that flashed on the screen briefly warranted the Colts decision.
on the other hand, turning to Smith’s controversial decision this year, if Green Bay had tried to convert a field goal rather than a 4th and 1, they might have won it in regulation rather just being able to send it to overtime.

UW/WSU already cancelled for next Friday. BYU appears to have refused to play in Seattle (little prospect of winning and they are undefeated so far). Rumor has it that San Diego State will fill in or some other conference team capable of playing but whose regularly scheduled opponent can’t. I hear rumors of Utah
Utah got rescheduled to Sunday vs ASU.
UW will need to find someone quick unless there’s another team in pac12 with positives. I think they test tomorrow?
BYU’s case is interesting. It sounds like they are playing it safe and hoping an undefeated record gives them of New Years Six Bowl as they realize the playoffs are a pipe dream with their schedule as it stands.
Seems like a double edged sword there. If they take the UW game and win, it could put them over the top. Lose and they’ll drop out of the rankings. Do nothing and they’ll probably be ignored. I don’t think Mormons gamble so they’ll skip the invite.
And if the CFP delays a week or two, that really hurts the independents and G5 schools. It give another chance for a team from the PAC12 or BIG 12 to add another win to their total.
BYU shouldn’t play UW. They say any team, any place, and time, but not on any terms.
It’s absolutely ridiculous that the Pac-12 would cancel an OOC game on Thursday in favor for a conference game, two days prior to the game being played. BYU has to coordinate travel for their entire team and staff, and to have that cancelled so close to kickoff would be infuriating.
No. 9 is still a first rounder
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2021-nfl-mock-draft-2-round-miller-november/3/
His stock is absolutely tanking.
From the article:
“22) Miami Dolphins: Hamilcar Rashed Jr., EDGE, Oregon State
Rashed is still raw as a pass rusher, but his natural abilities and the success of guys like Brian Burns and Harold Landry should help elevate his stock. He is undersized for a traditional rusher, but he is a very nice chess piece in a multiple defense. He is extremely fluid and has an elasticity that is unrivaled in the class.
He isn’t as exciting as Randy Gregory coming out of Nebraska, but if you squint, you can see that Nebraska logo on his helmet. In a league that is getting the ball out fast, pass rushers NEED explosion, and Rashed has more than enough of that, and he can drop into coverage without much issue.”
I just can’t see that. He’s got to be falling, maybe as far as a second day pick on the hope that this year is the performance aberration, not last year. If somebody could handle him playing lighter(?) he might show the speed, but it seems like he’d be too light as an OLB in the NFL and too slow to be a safety.
I haven’t paid too much attention, but I’m sure that offenses are preparing with him in mind. Maybe opposing offenses are scheming their block assignments to account for him so he can’t get the QB?
Maybe, probably. Right now he’s just facing starters of an covid-depleted PAC. But in the NFL, he’ll face the best, right? Will he be as effectively neutralized?
I still hope the best for him, but right now, empirically, it doesn’t look good. He isn’t looking like a game changer this year.
Kind of a bummer that we are the home team the year no fans are allowed in the civil war game. Luck o’ da Beavs strikes again.
Let’s fill up the stadium with cardboard fans and place bags over their heads!
Will the older cardboard fans yell at the younger cardboard fans to sit down?
You first
Bill Walton is the dude, that’s all I have to say
I missed the draft. Did Tinkler or Kelley get picked?
Walton is an iconic figure in basketball. He is the man. He just doesn’t have anything positive to say about osu basketball. But who does really? Irrelevant again this year and expected to finish 12th. Familiar I suppose
Sorry guys! Having another acid flashback… Was hanging out with all the cool people from that super cool hype video… You know the one where we play off one of the only known movies filmed in Eugene. I think it’s great that we worship a movie inspired by good times at Washington University in St. Louis… And leave it to us to play off a Harvard grads movie writing, we know any of us couldn’t make anything successful
We do have a porn star in the library going for us though. Such a proud institution
The Wall Street Journal sports section had a story today on former BYU and NFL QB Virgil Carter and the origin of football analytics. Readers of this blog will not be surprised that these two paragraphs stood out upon my reading of the article.
“The [expected points analytics] concept also explains why teams should go for it more on fourth downs–the subject of another study Carter conducted in the 1970s on a strategy that didn’t become gospel until decades later. He used expected points to show teams were far too conservative and would benefit more by going for it more often. Now, in 2020, fourth down attempts are at an all-time high.”
“Another paper by Carter and Machol in 1978 used this [expected points from certain scenarios] concept to study one of the most important decisions in football: when teams should go for it on fourth down. While teams hardly went for it at the time, the numbers revealed how mathematically boneheaded that was. It showed, for example, that a team facing a fourth-and-1 from its opponent’s 15 yard line would have 3.45 expected points if it ran the ball versus 2.29 for a field goal. Those numbers have been refined and advanced, but the concepts are why smarter teams are going for it more than ever.”
Virgil Carter was ahead of his time. I think he was only a starter for a couple of years, but one season he lead the NFL with a 62% completion percentage, which was unheard of in the early ’70s.
Picks are up for both pools now. Keep in mind some games start earlier in the week this week
