It’s hard not being able to see or listen to the game and know the location of the pitches. Last year I felt like our guys were too selective and put themselves in a lot of tough counts because of it. I know that they are coached to do this but there is a big range between being too aggressive at the plate and only pulling the trigger on the perfect pitch to hit.
He’s more of a “keep the defense involved” type pitcher. When he snaps it low, he’s most effective. I think the fly balls rattled him a bit, and he’s working too hard to get down low again.
He just needs to put the ball low on the plate and let his defense take care of him.
What?! Wait, so my “Listen Live” is obviously not live. In the 7th inning now.
Oh well guess I don’t have to listen to the rest now. Heading to Jimmy O’s for my nephew’s 21st b-day, then off to the Acropolis Club to buy him his first lap dance!
All that talk last week about the Beaver Inn on 82nd got me wanting to get back to supporting single Moms.
After your comments last week, I paid closer attention while driving down 82nd. I think the Beaver Inn buliding still exists and it’s called Rocco’s now. I might be wrong though because I thought Beaver Inn burned down at one point, but maybe someone rebuilt it. I was away from Portland for 20 years. It’s close to one of my favorite places Cascade Cigar.
I took my son to Jiggles on his 18th birthday. After about an hour he built up the courage to finally pick out a girl and get a lap dance. Afterwards he saw the door to the ladies dressing room. Eyeballing it for awhile he turns to me and flatly asks, “that must be the room you go in to have sex with them?” I sprayed my Pepsi everywhere.
Btw, Cole Brocker has electric “stuff”. He had to be mid-90s with a nice offspeed pitch (based on speed, it looked like a slider, but it’s hard to tell from the baseline angle). Starr’s velocity was not so good. Probably 87mph or so. Boyd throws surprisingly hard in person, and his slider is amazing to watch. Even from the side view you can see it dipping and diving.
Yeah, but not too many. There was a big net in the way. I got a few, though. Wetzler throwing, the dugout, Casey talking to Marty Lees between innings…maybe a few more. I’ll upload them in the forums when I get them off the camera.
If I go tomorrow or Sunday does anyone have any picture requests?

Looks like no video stream for the series. Oh well.
Starting line-up is as expected except:
RF – Montgomery instead of Conforto
2B – Tommasini instead of Smith
What do we know about Montgomery?
We know he can’t make contact with one out and the bases loaded.
Thanks for the astute scouting. :)
heh heh
We know he excels at leaving runners on base.
Bases loaded and no outs in the first for the Beavers
Jake strikes out
Back-to-back strikeouts with the bases loaded. Wow.
Beavers blow a golden chance for a big inning and get nothing.
Not exactly a great way to get the game started.
No kidding. You have the bases loaded and no outs, you have to get at least 1 run out of that every single time.

Gauchos strand a runner at third, scoreless through an inning. Teams combined to go 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position in the first inning.
Sounded like a nice stab by Danny.
Too many strikeouts! Put the ball in play.
I might have to post this every single inning.
No kidding!
I could have been up there for six of our AB’s for all intents and purposes.

SO, Check Swing 2-3 out, single and a SO for the second.
It sounds like Ben has good stuff to start the season. And it sounds like our D is there for support.
edit: as I type, I’m thinking I’m going to jinx him, and he’s going to let one slip up in the zone.
angry playing around in center field?
wetzler sounds pretty sharp, no k’s though

yeah it seems like when he misses he misses low, which is a great quality for a pitcher at this level.
His curve has sounded great so far. He must have some nice action on it.
Beavers not putting the ball in play enough
Runners on first and second with 1 out, need to capitalize here
Bases loaded with 1 out. big chance to blow this game open this inning.
Big hit.
2-0 Beavers
chance to break this open here
Keyes HBP brings in another run, 3-0 Beavers
Another strikeout with the bases juiced. Some guys need to get aggressive, especially with 2 strikes.
Vedo has control issues out of the stretch.
Two run single by Jake Rodriguez and it’s 5-0 Beavers!
Jake is awake!
5-0 Beavers after 3 1/2 innings. Nice job by the Beavers in taking advantage of an opportunity in the 4th to put together a big inning.
Montgomery finally doesn’t strike out.
DP gives wetzler the quick inning. good first four innings
I’m surprised checketta didn’t have a fresh arm to start the fifth especially considering its mid february
Checketts*
Here is the UCSB audio feed if others are having problems getting it:

Gauchos get their first run on an RBI bunt single with 2 outs. Cheap run.
wetzler starting to fade, 5-2 beavers
Gauchos starting to hit Wetzler hard. He’s allowed 3 hits and 2 runs in the 6th
Taylor Starr is in for Wetzler
First appearance since, what? 2009?
RT: @Beaver_Baseball This is Starr’s first appearance since 2009 when OSU played at Tennessee.
Starr got an out and Cole Brocker is in. Starr fared alright, considering this was his first game in 3 years, had to be extremely nervous.
UCSB announcers felt that something might have been wrong with Starr when he left. Hope not.
I hope not as well. He’s gone through so much with the injuries, another setback would be brutal for him.
Helluva spot to make a return after that long
bullpen be trippin
Big time strike out by Blocker.
Brocker made it interesting but got out of trouble, 5-3 Beavers after 6 innings of play
Beavers have struck out 10 times today. That’s too much.
Matt Boyd is pretty good
Runners on first and second with no outs for the Beavers in the 8th
gotta get at least a run back
Throwing error by Gauchos pitcher leads to two runs for the Beavers. 7-3 now
7-3 after 7 1/2 innings
Scott Schultz is on to finish this one off
Beavers win 7-3! Nice way to start out the season.

Last time I went to the Acropolis there were C-section scars as far as the eye can see.
Good steak though.
Have not been to the Acropolis in years- I remember a dancer named Libby…. damn
I wish you were my uncle! Mine took me to Dairy Queen.
Did all the dancers have 2 arms?
Haven’t been to acrop in probably 10 years as I live in Hillsboro now. Has it slipped that far?

youre the best uncle ever

That was a fun time. Might go back tomorrow. Surprisingly huge number of Beaver fans…I think they outnumbered the home crowd.
snowbirds!

you take any pictures?

Beaver photos? Santa Barbara? Wait…I thought you were going to The Acropolis to take pictures Sorry, I got the threads mixed up again.
I posted the few opening day photos I took in the forums.
If I go back tomorrow or Sunday I’ll try to not be so lazy and get some action shots.
Beavers again today taking too many pitches, striking out too much.
Beavers not making solid contact at all today. Don’t have a hit yet, through 2 1/2 innings. Scoreless game.
