Home Baseball Beavs Earn #3 Seed

Beavs Earn #3 Seed

82

The Oregon State baseball team will enter the 2013 NCAA Tournament as the No. 3 National Seed, the NCAA selection committee announced Monday morning.

The seeding is the highest ever for the Beavers, who were the No. 8 national seed in 2005.

Agree with the sentiment in the other thread that the Beavs got a good draw. I don't have much issue with the Ducks at #8. They've been tough and scrappy all year, and they'll have to get by Rice, which is a tougher opponent than anyone the Beavs face. Overall pretty fair. I think Oregon – Rice is intriguing…definitely will be watching that one. Only thing I'm worried about with the Beavs is a starter possibly imploding. Short of that, they should be fine this round.

  1. Hey….big congrats to our team….coming from behind to win that last series….wow.     That should send em into the playoffs on a high note!     Way to gut it out, guys.    Just keep playing that way…

  2. let’s not forget the beavs also had a come from ahead loss this weekend as well.

they would be well advised to keep their heads down and play hard and not get complacent.

  3. My knee-jerk "Duck hate" reaction is that they got more love than they deserved with the national seed, but in the end you have to win games, so let it play out on the diamond.  Duck hoops got screwed with that seed, so I can't play the "PK money" conspiracy theory.  Time to focus on the Beavs and their excellent opportunity to make some noise this time around.

    • That was a great seed for the Ducks.  A higher seed may have landed them in a match up versus a one/two/three seed in the second round.  Instead they were an undervalued 12 facing an overrated 5, then on to the winner of 8/9.  I think it was the best draw they could have asked for, although it came as a slap in the face to the duck faithful.

  4. Baseball America has been calling Texas A&M one of the weakest two seeds in the entire field. While that won't change the Beavers' approach, it's sounding like we have a pretty manageable field as opposed to some others.

  5. At least we are no longer the only defending national champs to not be selected the following year.  But glad to see Alabama make it in over Arizona or Stanford, yeah real glad.

  6. Never really watched College World Series, and I don't know how it all works.

If we win our "regional" does that make us a super regional host?  If that's not how it works, how does it work?

    Thanks.

    • The way Regional hosts work is the top 16 teams host, after that, if you are ranked one of the 8 natioanal seeds, you get to host a super regional, just so long as you win. So, if Oregon State wins the regional, they will host the super regional. If by some odd chance that Oregon State loses their regional, then there will be a different host site depending on who wins their regional. If I'm wrong, then correct me, but I'm pretty sure I'm not wrong. Then after the super regional, it's off to Omaha!

    • We can't screw with the rotation right now. Think ahead to next week if we were to win our regional and host a Super. We want Boyd to throw on Friday with Moore ready for Saturday. Mixing it up now would throw that rotation off. Also, if he locks one down to start the weekend we save our pen… which seems to like to take Fridays off anyway.

Besides, Boyd needs a W to get his mojo back. He needs to know his D will back him up and slam one home for him. Get him back on track and move on with him being confident.

    • Beavs should stick to the rotation. Boyd, Moore and Wetzler. Save Child for a possible 4th game.

Hopefully the bullpen issues get resolved. Expecting to see Engelbrekt as the first out the bullpen on Friday followed by Schultz. Casey will probably keep the bullpen short. I think only Englebrekt, Schultz, Fry, Bryant and Painton/Jackson will be called on. Doubtful anyone else will make an appearance.

Beavs gameplan should be to get ahead early and close the door hard on these teams.

  7. How are the tickets work for this weekend?  Will they go on sale to the public, and can you buy single game tickets?

    • All the info is here: http://www.osubeavers.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/052713aaa.html

Single-game tickets will be made available on each day – pending availability – and cost $20 for infield reserved seats, $15 for outfield general admission and $12 for student outfield seats. The ticket office at Goss Stadium will open at 10 a.m. on the first day of the regional and two hours prior to the first game's first pitch each subsequent day.

    • And there's no interest in Max Gordon by the MLB draft? Aaron Fitt says he's one of those guys who plays beyond his talent (saying that Oregon State is notable for that).

    • Lakeview HS….as a junior transfer to OSU from Cali…I memorized as many Oregon HS nicknames as I could to win bets–dudes from Hermiston would get pissed at me.

    • I think we have found our Angrybeav mascot. I wonder if the State Dept. would grant him asylum?  Do you have space for a pond at your pad in Santa Barbara Angry?

Beaver fans, please note there will be a $10 parking fee for lots on campus near Goss Stadium for the entire Corvallis Regional

  9. Conforto – Pac 12 Player of the Year

Moore – Freshman of the Year

Casey – Coach of the Year.

Boyd, Conforto, Davis, Rodriguez, Wetzler, Smith and Moore named all Pac12.  Schultz and Peterson honorable mention.

No real surprises. Berg got pitcher of the year and it's hard to put down what he's done.

    • Moore not getting Pac-12 pitcher of the year is an absolute travesty.  He pitched 3 times as many innings as Berg.  If I had the choice between the two to have on my team I know who I would pick.

  10. I saw this on twitter, pretty interesting, takes a look at which bracket is the hardest and easiest based on RPI's and takes a look at their seeds.  How much does it really mean?  I don't really know, but I know that nobody is talking about Oregon St, either being a favorite or a potential upset or the hardest or weakest.  Flying way under the radar.

    • Everything you need to know about that article can be summed up with this sentence in the first paragraph…"Living in Southeastern Conference country…"

  11. Congrats and good luck to Beaver Baseball.  The speed guy needed at wr could be Walter Jones.  I do not know if he can catch but he definitely has the wheels.

    • Correction, it won't replace the SPEED channel, FOX Sports 1 will be in the same channel number/location of the SPEED channel. Sorry for all you nascar and racers out there for scaring you.

      • NASCAR is covered on Fox, TNT and ESPN. So that was never a worry. It's sad that Fox has turned it into the crap broadcast it is now. The ESPN coverage in the 90's was the ultimate example of how racing should be covered. But it is what it is.

SPEED was only important for F1 and Indy. And now that F1 goes to NBC and Indy goes to NBC/ABC there really is no reason to watch SPEED. There are a couple good shows about each of the series on the channel, but nobody will tune in if practices, qualifying and races aren't on the channel.

I have two more months on my DTV contract. If they don't move to the PTN, I'm moving to Dish. I've been piggy-backing on a Comcast pooter feed to watch that channel, and it just burns my hard drive like nobodies business because of Xfinity's stupid feed. I actually prefer pirated feeds even though I have access through Xfinity because of this. It's absolutely annoying as hell to have my screen freeze up in the second half (or late innings) because their feed occupies so much bandwidth.

Besides, I have a low tolerance for Comcast gaming the "public discussion" for net access by paying people to occupy meetings with fire marshall occupancy standards. That was really really smart. But it was also really really un-democratic.

This dude does not abide un-democracy.

  12. OT… we've had our share of ped-friendly commentors over the years.

Yes JP, you are enough to make up one whole share forever… you fucking prick!

Anyway, PO is taking it to a new level. They are attacking someone who is posting on their boards. And they are doing so thinking that there is no screening process in order to just get to post on that board. I've never had any interest, so I've never submitted an "application" to join PO. But the existence of this Beaverclass on the PO boards and his continued non-banned status makes me think s/he is someone who is more than just some nincompoop commentor… like those attacking him or her.

I find this gnashing of teeth rather funny. I do not see the telltale Duck troll signs in any of his/her posts. Yet PO has found a mission in finding him/her guilty of something.

    • The Pure-Orange forum, or whatever the hell you want to call it, is so poorly laid out that I can't even look at it without having a seizure.  I'll take my reading pleasure here, I'm too old for that other shit.

      • I signed up for it years ago, but I don't think I was ever approved (or I was and they banned me shorrly after).

        McKalk–how old are you?

        • I can be banned from that site in one post.

Oh! I can drag something off another hard drive. This is so cool!

You all remember Name That Tune?

Of course you don't… or do.

I don't know why I've kept this snippet from a blog from long ago, but I challenge anyone to name the songs from these lyrics. You might hate yourself if you actually know them.

          1. Living is easy with eyes closed
          Misunderstanding all you see

          2. The braying sheep on my TV screen
Make this boy shout, make this boy scream!

          3. Loving would be easy
If your colours were like my dream

          4. Fingernails are pretty
          Fingernails are good

          5. See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out

          • Honestly, if I wanted to not be banned from that site on my first post, I would tell similar lies to that Beaveerclas tells. I guess I could play with them for a while if I decided to sell canards.

            Is Jim really a Schmuck?

          • You've lost me, Jack.  Not sure why anyone would self hate for knowing the lyrics to "Strawberry Fields" though I was never a fan of Beatles psychedelia.  #2 is Mr.Weller.  #3 is godawful.  Is Boy George still alive? #4 is FF and #5 U2.

          • I was being somewhat sarcastic about BG, but doesn't it seem like he died a long time ago?  Another one who couldn't handle it when the 15 minute hourglass drained out.  Had to seek none artistic methods of staying in the spotlight.

        • I was banned.  If you don't see things through orange colored glasses you'll be shunned over there.  Constructive criticism is not allowed.  you must shit orange colored turds and they must smell like roses and their stench not offend any of those turned up noses that myopically view everything about Oregon State athletics.  Like our shitty hoops coach.

          • I still jump over there once or twice a month just to marvel at some of the things they write. Looking through some of the posts, you would think they know very little about life as well. Like BG says below about Hunt and his fact-checking, I'm just amazed at some of the things some of them try to pass off as facts. I also found one really really really poorly written meme about some grand'ma talking to her grandson that claimed she was born in 1953… before penicillin, TV, frozen food, clothes dryers, FM radio, frisbees, dishwashers, ball-point pens, etc. It was about as crappy as any jingoistic meme written by a half-wit (I'm being generous here). It burns me up when I think morons who create memes like this control the creation of similarly whacko textbooks in Texas.

      • As mentioned in a previous thread, I know Jeff.  My son and Jeff Hendrix were teammates last year on the Corvallis American Legion team.  Jeff is a great kid and an excellent athlete.  He has a strong arm, superior foot speed, and a lot of pop in his bat. Jeff's main weaknesses at the plate were:  (1) too many strikeouts; (2) inability to hit breaking pitches, especially from left-handers.  Fix these two problems, and Jeff could be a star for Oregon State.

  13. Do "journalists" ever check their facts?

John Hunt…….."Oregon State became the first team north of Omaha to win the CWS since Minnesota in 1960."  John, Michigan won in '62 and Minnesota won again in '64. You do own a computer don't you John?

  14. THIS is wild!!!!

Someone with a Twitter account needs to send THIS to Roberto Nelson. Tell him to get on the Barca bandwagon stat.

Neymar is now officially my favorite footballer in the world.
