Two run single by Dylan Davis. 2-0 lead over Washington State in the bottom of the 1st
Rough first start so far for WSU pitcher Hartnett. 2 runs scored already. 2 on 1 out.
Bases loaded and 1 out for Ryan Barnes
Bases loaded. 1 out for Barnes.
Two run single by Barnes. 4-0 Beavers and runners on the corners
Barnes single to rf. 2 more runs. 2 on 1 out. 4-0 Beavs
GoBeavs, you watching on tv or listening to Parker?
Parker, don't have the Pac-12 Network.
5-0 Beavers after an inning and a half
Too bad these Pac12 dickheads don't realize that there are fans who live outside the broadcast area and thus can't watch the broadcast BUT WOULD LIKE TO.
F'em!!!
Sac fly by Rodriguez. 6-0 Beavers
Kavin Keyes solo homer makes it 7-0 Beavers in the bottom of the 5th
Keyes has really found his swing in the last half of the season, he has consistantly benn getting good at bats.
Wow, I can't spell.
Just noticed D1Baseball.com back on line.
7-0 Beavers after 6 innings
JRod a K/throw out at 2nd for an inning ending DP. Gotta love that JRod!
Time to pull Boyd and give the BP some work.
7-1 Beavers after 6 1/2 innings
Keyes RBI double makes it 8-1 Beavers. Runners on second and third and no outs for Ryan Barnes
Keyes an RBI double, doesn't matter how you spell it, he is having a nice day. 8-1 Beavs, nobody out and runners on 2 and 3, b7
He's now hitting .364 in conference play
Painton on to pitch the t8, good for him to get some work, wouldn't mind seeing someone like Reser, Starr, or Fry face a couple batters.
Painton now being pulled for Bryant, doesn't really seem like Bryant needs the work, maybe Casey is simply anxious to put this one away for sure.
4 straight singles to start the top of the 8th for Washington State. 8-3 Beavers.
Jace Fry coming in with the bases loaded and no outs
Fry error makes it 8-4. Still bases loaded and nobody out.
Sac fly makes it 8-5
bullpen is on fire, no literally…
Lack of focus. Don't like the bullpen performing like that but not too surprising with a 7 run lead coming into the inning.
The BP, once a strength of this club, has suffered from lack of work due to the fine pitching of the starters. In the playoffs there will be pressure on Bryant and Schultz to carry the load. So much of the other talent in the BP will have to be on a very short leash.
Engelbrekt should get his fair share of work as well and I think Fry will see some time but Bryant and Schultz are definitely the main 2 relievers Casey and Yeskie will count on in big spots.
Yeah, guys like Jackson, Brocker, and Reser will likely be situational, for only one or two batters per appearance. Earlier in the season it seemed several in the BP could be counted upon for a couple innings each.
Scott Schultz coming in with the bases loaded and 2 outs
Thanks Schultzie
Scott Schultz gets the Beavers out of the inning
Gordon a leadoff walk to start the b8, Smith gets on on a bunt. 2 on with no out, need to add some runs if just for momemtum.
With one out and bases full Dylan beats out a FC to get an RBI. You can't overlook that kind of hustle to avoid an inning ending DP.
9-5 good guys, 2 down b8, runners at 1 and 3.
Schultz gives up a 2 run HR and its tied at 9, one out in the top of the 9th.
Homerun for Cougs ties game 9-9 1 out top of 9
Cougars tie it in the 9th. Big collapse by the bullpen.
what the hell…
Wake up call !!!!!
fire started, bullpen brought out fire extinguishers filled with gas, fielders merely stared, the end
Casey should have gone with Starr instead of Schultz. ;)
Pretty hard to go with Starr, a somewhat unknown at this point, over the known quantity in Schultz. I'll stick by that even in view of the 4 run ninth suffered by Schultz.
that was a joke.
I don't get why Max E wasn't brought in to face all those leftys.
Schultz is the closer and he had a 4 run lead going into the 9th.
Schultz was obviously struggling and it was 9-7 with the tying run at the plate a LHB. Go lefty on lefty and we win 9-7.
Beau Day to hit for Gordon to leadoff the 10th, guess this is why Casey gets the big bucks, I'd have stayed with Max.
ummm
Tyler Smith singles followed up by a Peterson bunt single. Feels like he gets one of those a game. Conforto up.
One more bunt for single by Peterson, he really has this bunt business down!
One out runners at 1 and 2 for Conforto.
A recent story explained how Peterson wasn’t much of a bunter when he came in from Juco, really worked to perfect his craft, good for him…..good for us!
Conforto hits into a double play. Tied at 9 going to the 11th.
On to the 11th, need good work from Max E., not sure who could be counted upon to relieve him with any confidence.
Brandon Jackson possibly
Yeah, I'd take Jackson over Brocker, but Max is doing OK so far, not his fault that Peterson couldn't handle the grounder and let the Cougs take the lead.
Beavers blew a lot of chances in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings that have come back to bite them in the ass. Since the 6th inning the Beavers are just 1 for 8 with RISP.
So what do we need to do to win the PAC…?
One win to get win it, two wins to win it outright.
Two is the magic number. Any combo of Beavs wins and UCLA/UofO losses.
Magic number is one right? We have tie breakers over UCLA and Oregon.
True. Kinda like kissing your sister though, to not clearly win the whole thing outright after last weekend.
10-9 Cougars.
Keyes a chance to be a big factor, no outs, runners at 1 and 2.
Brutal loss
That one hurt.
Hopefully the Beavers can bounce back. Never easy bouncing back from a loss like that.
I go get a couple of fish tacos with the Beavs ahead by 6 or 7 runs and I come back to this shit?
Watch that green sauce!
No green sauce for me!
Max takes the loss, really a raw deal.
Hate seeing pitchers take losses when the defense behind him are more responsible for the loss than he was.
Yeah and what about wasting Boyd's night.
Second week in a row…Friday night lite. JB
Wow. Guess we don't like being conf. champs. Kills the whole underdog vibe of the athletic dept. Luck-O the Beavs or epic choke job last night?
Baseball is fascinating, even a "bad" team like Wazzu is full of players who were all superstars on their high school and club teams, so the margin of error is probably smaller than win/loss records would led one to believe. Beavers didn't execute and got burned.
Cannot believe we Couged it yesterday!!! Had the lead all the way up until the 9th and our defense decides to day dream and go through the motions!! Also, Couge got defense!?!
I hope Casey at least threw a Gatorade cooler in the locker room or something.
Ugly. Embarrassing.
Yes and if the quacks end up winning or tying for the conf. championship………infuriating.
Tyler Smith with an error in the first. 5th Beavers error in their last 12 innings of play. Moore gets out of the inning and Tyler Smith leads off the bottom half of the inning with a single.
Another bunt single for Peterson. Runners on first and second and no outs for Conforto.
Conforto hits another double play. Smith on third and 2 down
Dylan Davis with an RBI single. 1-0 Beavers.
Jake Rodriguez doubles. On 2nd with 2 down for Max Gordon
1-0 Beavers after 2 innings
1-0 Beavers after 3 innings
Moore throws out a runner at the plate to keep it 1-0. Runners first and second and 2 outs for WSU.
He gets out of the inning. 1-0 Beavers after 3 1/2 innings
Barnes and Hayes with consecutive hits. Runners on the corners with no outs and Keyes up.
And the Beavers don't get a run across. Beavers are just 2 for their last 17 with runners in scoring position. 1-0 Beavers after 4 innings
1-0 Beavers after 4 1/2 innings
1-0 Beavers after 5 1/2 innings.
Cliff is leaving The Gazette, moving to report for Alabama. http://m.gazettetimes.com/blogs/cliff-kirkpatrick/article_0d04e974-c3de-11e2-b811-001a4bcf887a.html?mobile_touch=true
1-0 Beavers after 6 innings
1-0 Beavers after 6 1/2 innings. Moore is rolling.
Peterson and Conforto with consecutive 2 out singles. Runners on the corners for Davis.
Dylan Davis with a three run homer. 4-0 Beavers.
First pitch swing nets a 3 run HR for Davis.
Prior to that, Conforto’s single was also on the first pitch.
I thought they were making a pitching change so I walked away for Davis… :(
4-0 Beavers afterr 7 innings.
4-0 Beavers after 7 1/2 innings
Moore's stuff is fucking filthy.
After 7 1/2, 4-0 Beavs. Nice throw (again) by JRod to cut down attempted steal at second for the 2nd out, K by Moore for the third.
Moore a complete game shutout!
Kid is nails!
Holy shit, did Pat Casey just smile??
Beavers win 4-0. Andrew Moore with the 6 hit shutout. Beavers clinch automatic berth and at least a share of the Pac-12 title for now, can win outright title with an Oregon loss or beating WSU tomorrow.
We have to win tomorrow. Just hearing the announcer talking about Oregons shot at claiming part of the title annoyed the crap out of me. I want an outright championship.
If Utah can beat Oregon tonight(scoreless in the third at the moment), Beavers will have the outright title won before they play tomorrow.
Ucks with 3 UNEARNED runs in the third, so darn typical for them.
GO BEAVS, wrap it up Sunday!!
Ducks won 6-2. Oh well, Beavers just got to wrap it up tomorrow. Already got the automatic berth, no pressure of losing the conference crown, expect the team to play loose and win big and win the conference outright.
Worst case scenario….Beavs game gets rained out tomorrow with no reschedule, Ducks win vs Utah, Ducks get 1st place in conference outright. Is that a possiblity? Or would they for sure find a way to reschedule the Beavs/WSU game before the season is officially over? That's a tall order considering the 1st round post season games start next weekend and the rest of this week calls for showers.
Damn you Phil Knight and your rain making lazers!!!
You just jinxed it. Thanks a lot. This is all your fault… just sayin'
I'd think, if my math is right the Beavers would still lead it by 1/2 game
If thats true (i havent looked at the records today), we should all be doing the rain dance tight now.
no, beavs would be .786 and ducks would be .759 that should still put beavs ahead.
if beavs played and lost AND ducks won both would be .759 but beavs have tie breaker.
Does someone have a scouting report on Moore? How does he get it done?
I heard Moore just got destroyed about a week ago.
You heard wrong, he threw a complete game shutout against Oregon a week ago.
And was the national pitcher of the week in D1 ball.
I think he's being facetious.
Dylan Davis with an RBI single. 5 two out RBIs in the last 2 games. 1-0 Beavers.
Leadoff double for Ryan Barnes in the bottom of the 2nd
Surprise, surprise, ucks get one unearned run in the first. Utah ties it in the 4th.
Luck o' the ucks won't carry them far in the post season.
Some of that luck might be wearing off sooner than that. Utah now leads 4-3 after Reed gave up 3 straight hits to start the bottom of the 5th and then fields a bunt and fires it down the right field line.
Two run single for Tyler Smith with 2 down. 3-0 Beavers.
RBI single by Conforto. 4-0 Beavers.
Wetzler gives up a solo homer. 4-1 Beavers
4-2 Beavers. Wetzler has given up 3 extra base hits in the inning
Second time through the order, still surprising given the number of K’s first time through.
Washington State has gotten a lot more aggressive early in the count, instead of just leting Wetzler get ahead in the count.
4-3 Beavers
Wetzler losing focus? Not in his nature to allow the steal by seeming to forget about the runner….lead to the 3rd Coug run. He'll settle down now.
He will, hope the offense can keep getting it done and give him a big comfortable lead.
With 1 out in the b5, Utah leads ucks 5-3 on 3 unearned runs of their own. Utes with 11 hits vs. ucks 5 hits.
Wetzler continues to get hard. Leadoff double for WSU. 5 extra base hits off Wetzler in 3+ innings
I hope you mean he’s getting “hit”hard. Otherwise we need to question this guy’s motivation
Lol! Yes, hit hard, my mistake.
Heads up play by Peterson to get the runner at 3rd for the first out in the t4. FC, excellent "choice".
5-4 Cougars after 3 1/2 innings
Casey a little gun shy to go to the pen, but Wetzler is getting rocked.
Wetzler a 1-2-3 inning in the t5, two K's. Now that his "psyche" is repaired Casey likely to go to the BP before Ben faces more than a couple more batters.
5-4 Cougars after 5 innings
Gota go to the 'pen now.
Gotta* and they're bringing in Starr who hasn't pitched in a while.
6-4 Cougars.
9-3 Utah in the b7 !!
Utah is leading Oregon 9-3 in the bottom of the 7th. So, looks like the Beavers will win the outright conference title regardless of the result of this game, but coming back to win this would be a nice way to end the regular season.
Utes raping Oregon!
Wasn't UCLA tied with OR?
already lost….twice this weekend.
Fry coming in with a runner on second and 2 down
Top of the order coming up for the Beavs b7, time for some offense.
BTW: Utah up 10-3 now, only three outs left for the pretty boys!
6-4 Cougars after 7. Monda is dominating the Beavers. He's retired all 10 hitters he's faced.
Utah wins 10-3, outhits Phil's boys 16 to 6. Beavs Champs…no sharing!
Utah beats Oregon 10-3. Oregon State wins the Pac-12 outright.
Would love for Beavs to come back and win this game and win the Pac 12 on a good note.
Agree.
One thing is for sure, there is no reason for the Beavs to be overconfident against ANYONE in the post-season! No reason either to be afraid of anyone, just play the game as they can.
Dylan Davis' home run cuts the deficit to 1. 6-5 Cougars
Once again, a first pitch HR by Davis. Down 6-5 now, Go Beavs!
Danny Hayes follows with a homer of his own and it's all tied up at 6
Back to back, how sweet it is!!
Wow! Hayes hits a 2-1 pitch out! 6-6 tie. No outs in the b8
Keyes coming up with Barnes on first, Kavin is due and smart. And hasn’t looked good bunting lately.
Jake Rodriguez is up with 1 out and a runner on 2nd
As with Kavin, he is due.
Beau hitting for Gordon with runners on 1 and 2, one out. This didn't work the last time Casey tried it, is he due?
Beau strikes out, I hope Casey’s faith in him is rewarded in the post-season.
Surprised he went with Beau there slightly. Seemed like a good spot for Jansen or Hendrix but Beau had been good when called upon so I can see why he would go with Beau, just didn't come through.
One down in the t9, need to give Max better defensive support than the last time he worked.
Would be nice to see Max get credit for a win to make up for being saddled with his first loss in the last appearance.
San Diego State is winning the MWC Championship Game right now over New Mexico. If SDSU wins, I think they probably end up as the 4th seed in the Corvallis Regional.
Tied at 6 going to the bottom of the 9th
Dylan Davis with a two out double. Hayes up.
Barnes up with runners on first and second and 2 outs
Ryan Barnes with the walk-off RBI single. Beavers win 7-6.
How sweet it is! Barnes walk off RBI single. Beavs win 7-6
Congrats to the Beavs, indeed how sweet it is. And the ucks are runners up, that has a great ring to it.
Phil's waddlers finish two full games back, not likely to go far in the playoffs.
Just got back from my son's baseball tournament to discover all is right with the world of Beaver. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for my boy's team as they got beat 13-3 and their opponent had a 12 year old with a mustache who turned a blooper down the right field line into an inside the park home run!
Oh well, I'd rather have the Beavs win anyway!
16 regional hosts announced. Beavs of course in there.
http://www.ncaa.com/news/baseball/article/2013-05-26/sixteen-hosts-division-i-regionals-announced-2013-tournament
http://www.osubeavers.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/052613aac.html?utm_campaign=Argyle%2BSocial-2013-05&utm_medium=Think%2BLocal&utm_source=facebook&utm_term=2013-05-26-18-05-55
the mighty SEC and ACC take 9 of the 16 regional host sites. Absolute bullshit. If Vagina Tech @ 38-20 was worthy of hosting, why not ASU?
Va Tech had series wins over Florida State and Virginia and beat those teams at ACC Tournament and had no bad series losses. Arizona State lost series against Washington and Washington State which are really bad series losses and lost series to Arizona(3 losses to UA) and Stanford, two non-regional teams while only having two good series wins and 3 less wins vs the RPI top 50 and being 10+ spots below Va Tech in the RPI. Not much of an argument for ASU instead of Virginia Tech in terms of hosting.
The only Pac-12 teams who should be hosts are Oregon, Oregon State and UCLA. NCAA committee got that right.
Totally awesome to see the boys come back at the game today….Davis and Hayes are money!!!!!
PAC Champs baby!!!
So the question remains about Andrew Moore. He is a shoo in for Pac-12 freshman of the year and a freshman all america. I honestly believe he will be the Pac-12 pitcher of the year as well. Who else has been better???? 12-1 with a 1.22 ERA. Sherfy and Appel can both eat a bag of dicks. Moore is better than either of them. Hands down
Couldn't have worded that better myself. Perfectly said.
Sherfy would probably gladly accept that offer….
Corvallis Regional
#3 Oregon State
UTSA (35-23)
UCSB (34-23)
Texas A&M (32-27)
Manhattan regional:
Kansas St (41-17)
Wichita St (39-26)
Bryant (44-16-1)
Arkansas (37-20)
Beavers get #3 national seed and have Texas A&M, UC Santa Barbara and UTSA in their regional. Favorable regional and are matched up with the Kansas State Regional who may not end up getting out of their regional with Arkansas in there. Not a bad draw for the Beavers.
I agree, I like the draw.
http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/baseball/d1
So did the ucks really deserve an 8 seed, or am i seeing this through orange colored glasses?
They didn't. 6-10 vs the top 50 RPI, no series wins against a team that made the postseason while NC State swept Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech and 15 wins vs the RPI top 50. There's no rational argument for Oregon over NC State. NC State has far superior resume.
Concerning the Ucks, all I can do now is root like hell for Rice. They look like the only hope for an upset in that regional. I watched the ESPNU selection show and at least they didn't gush all over Oregon, more than once they brought up their questionable hitting.
Using Beaver logic I'm not concerned about Oregon. Beavs own UNC so it follows that NC State will own the ducks.
fwiw – Aaron Fitt said the same thing.
I'm on the fence about that one. My guess is the committee did not want to reward the overrated ACC with a 4th national seed. Why UNC is the overall top seed is beyond me. I think Vanderbilt was more deserving
and baseball america agrees with me.
A minor seeding qualm: We disagree with North Carolina getting the No. 1 overall seed rather than Vanderbilt. The Tar Heels finished as the No. 1 RPI team while the Commodores were No. 2, but Vanderbilt went a record 26-3 in the SEC and did not lose a series all year. North Carolina lost its last two series of the season. The Tar Heels still won the ACC’s regular-season and tournament crowns, but we like Vandy’s resume a bit more.
Beavs will need to step it up after this series. A good wake up call to never let up no matter who the opponent is.
Many of the beavs non-conference opponents made it in, Bryant, San Francisco, SDSU, San Diego. Shows the strength of the Beavs throughout the season.
Anyone know if Dan Child will be coming out of the bullpen? It seems like he was saved for the mid week game but didn't see any action this last series.
Child will definitely be coming out of the bullpen, though I'm not sure he'll get much of an opportunity to pitch in games.
This seems like an extremely favorable regional draw followed by a dangerous super regional with Arkansas potentially headed to Corvallis. In the last projection I saw, Texas A&M wasn't even going to make the tournament. Now they're coming to Corvallis as a 2 seed, something seems really off about that.
Big reason for Texas A&M getting a 2 seed even though most had them on the bubble might have been Texas A&M's AD being on the committee and using his influence to get them in and have a nice seed, same thing happened with East Carolina last year. Unfortunate more deserving teams get screwed cause of the politics that goes on.
its why UCSB got in as well with an RPI of 57
http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/field-of-64-reaction-and-analysis/
If us and KSU both win, who gets to host the super?
Beavers, national seed always hosts if they advance to the super regional
OT – I'm rather certain (oxymoron?) that such an erudite bunch as angrybeavs knows all about airbnb. In case not, there are several postings for "College World Series" houses; pricey but then I have no idea what the going rate is for commercial lodging during the series, so who knows.
