1. The Beavers don’t have a verbal and it’s nearly July. The Beavs do this every year, so it’s not too surprising, but what is shocking is that we’re not even hearing rumors of a possible commit. Usually there are rumblings. Just crickets this year.
2. The Beavs are looking at a kid named Burton DeKoning. His offers are Cal Poly, Nevada, and Utah State. Uh…
Not only that, but watch the 3rd play on this video:
http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5250561
Being too slow to run down the QB and then flailing on the ground.
Yep, that’s the job description for a Beaver linebacker.
Come on, Mike Riley, give me a break.
This is Kameron Krebs part 20.
hrrm. doesn’t look good :/
I heard Robert Ash really likes us because of the coaching staff and family atmosphere.
http://oregonstate.scout.com/a.z?s=182&p=2&c=977850&ssf=1&RequestedURL=http%3a%2f%2foregonstate.scout.com%2f2%2f977850.html
It’d sure be nice to get him instead of Washington.
We won’t get him. He just looks like a Husky.
No commits is more than a little troubling when they have reportedly made over 60 offers…
The player above seems like an example of someone no one really else wants that Riley can talk about being “a great story.” Hmmm, how about a good athlete and academic student whose play on the field becomes the story, instead of the story coming before the play…
They usually get their first commit around this time. It’s not super troubling. The talent level is, though. The guys who are showing genuine interest aren’t much to get excited about. Connor Thomas, Burton DeKoning? Meh.
Who’s Burton DeKoning?
http://gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/article_89da75d2-7b24-11df-af0f-001cc4c002e0.html
Where do you guys look for news? There was an article on Thomas last week somewhere, but I was so busy laughing at the Big XII to pay attention. My thought at that time was, “Of course he’s coming here. His brother is here.”
Kinda like guys named Rigsbee or Flavin.
Should we start a pool for which recruiting ‘service’ finds out first?
the guys on rivals are just now talking about it. looks like we broke the story. again. ;)
o/
Angry, I believe you mean that the gazette times broke the story…
Here’s the only tape I can find on Thomas. What makes it fun is all the other players on top of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ON3NgvYkVEE
Can anyone imagine the buzz if Aluesi and Banner committed to Coach Cav?
Ok… I watched DeKoning’s tape. I can’t say I was impressed. But at least he plays downhill. You can watch nine minutes of Jeffrey Lark, and you would only see someone waiting for the ball to come his way.
Is Lark another offer? I never pay attention to offers this early. Usually around August the picture becomes clearer, and that’s when I get into it and pay attention.
ps. it says his video “has been removed by the user”…I think Lark must be angry with your site and assessment. ;)
I put in a new video. It’s better and shorter, but he’s SOOOOO stiff.
DeKoning looks terrible. I can’t believe we’re still reaching for that kind of player after four 8+ win seasons.
We haven’t offered yet, thankfully. He will jump on it if we do.
I don’t think Lark is an offer. I think the staff sees the same thing anyone with half a brain sees.
But his measurables are great, so half the SEC and Big Twelven are after him.
What I don’t get is why Riley waits on local kids. There’s a lot of good talent this year.
I would love to add Hayden Plinke as a LB or DE. The kid is big, fast and aggressive.
Danny Granillo is a really, really strong guided missile.
Matthew Devereux will be the D-lineman of the year in Oregon. He’s just a monster at DT.
In all reality, Devereux is probably being recruited by everyone who has seen him play. So I’m not terribly upset that he’s not on board. But Granillo and Plinke are top level football players who are just under the radar because they’re in our backyard.
There are others who are next level like Michael Balfour, Brock Lutes, Andy Avgi and Kyle Gardner. These guys are the ‘great story’ guys that Riley looks for. I can understand waiting while top level players are still on the board.
If we’re going to chase projects like DeKoning, we might as well just get them from home. There’s a pretty good chance the homers would save us a bunch of time and money in recruiting… not to mention the headaches involved. I’m not saying that the whole class needs to be kids from home. But there could easily be seven or eight besides the well known national recruits.
Sorry about that. It looks like I forgot to close a tag.
I honestly think we have a chance at Renaud and Wynn. They are a package deal, and Renaud already came out and said he’s looking for a family atmosphere.
Are they a package deal? I would like it if they were, but I haven’t heard that.
I forgot to mention Cole Naone.
I know a guy who goes to school with Renaud and Wynn and that’s what he told me
Sounds good to me. Signing Terron Ward looks a lot better than just getting the CIF POY.
Ugh. We lost Ash to Boise State. Boise State!
Wow.
We always seem to lose 1 player to them each year. Hopefully this is the one and only. Still pretty bad, though.
I think Utah joining the Pac 10 is going to have a significant negative impact on OSU’s recruiting http://www.sltrib.com/utahutes/ci_15329598. They already competed for a lot of the same kids.
Lots of people mention Colorado and Utah gaining recruiting inroads into California with the new conference. To me, that’s the last thing the conference needs is to further dilute the California talent pool. I don’t think the Pac can field enough quality teams, when based mostly on Cali kids, to compete with the SEC and old Big 12. I really like to see western schools like Oregon and Utah grabbing a significant number of players from Texas.
It’s going to hurt less than if Texas joined–Texas would have raided California. It’s still going to hurt, though. There is only so much DI talent to go around. The conference as a whole will be watered down unless teams other than Oregon and USC learn how to recruit nationally.
Luckily, Colorado and Utah both have good inroads in Texas. Hopefully that’s where they look for recruits. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Utah dominate Hawaii now, however. I think the Beavs are done in that state. Utah is a real problem–they don’t add much and they take a lot. They were making 1.5 million in the MWC–now they’ll make upwards of 15-17 mil and steal our recruits in the process. There’s a reason in my first article I was so anti-Utah. Should have kept this at 10 teams and just renegotiated a good deal/tried to get the bylaw changed. In my mind Larry Scott, in being “progressive”, ruined the well-being of the league. It’s rare that this league had bottom-dwellers for long periods of time, but I think we’re going to see the start of that era, and if the Beavs aren’t careful they are going to be that team.
Based on their bowl success, Utah is also likely to compete at OSU’s niche – the top third of the conference and (usually) at mid-low tier bowls. Obviously, Utah’s been in a few big bowl games, but I expect them to drop a bit now that they’ll have to compete against better teams every week in regular Pac-10 season play.
In head-to-head competition, I don’t have confidence that Banker will ever consistently and effectively defend spread offenses, so I think Utah’s favored. If you are correct that they reduce OSU’s recruiting success in Hawaii (which makes sense with the strong mormon ties as well), I see them bumping OSU down a notch or two and taking OSU’s recently held niche.
And then there’s approach. Utah has demonstrated the ability to be detail oriented and to apply a killer instinct (think of their performance in the sugar bowl), and those two qualities there give them the edge over OSU in my opinion.
I agree with all of this. I fear OSU and WSU will be mired in the cellar. Taking away resources from a team that already has trouble recruiting, then putting them in the northern division…that is a double cellar dweller whammy. The Beavs better be proactive in realizing this and reorganizing or they’ll be left behind within a season and never recover.
The flipside is that they’ll have more money to put into recruiting, so maybe they finally hire a recruiting coordinator and develop relationships earlier in the process etc. They are constantly behind the eight ball.
Can anyone explain why we gave Utah a 1000% jump in revenue (that could have been dispersed amongst original members) and allowed them to water down the conference? What do they give back in return exactly? A few tv sets and 1 mil per team for a championship game? And Larry Scott is being hailed a wunderkind for this? Come on…
I certainly don’t know, but it kind of seems like they invited CU to begin drawing the Big12 – 6, and when they didn’t get them they had to fill the 12th spot somehow.
I hope CU and Utah’s Texas recruiting inroads do not go away now that they do not have conference games in the state.
That’s definitely what happened, but how does that make Larry Scott a wunderkind? He either didn’t think of the repercussions if Texas said no, or the thought this Pac-12 was a good idea. It might be a good idea if you’re Utah, Colorado, or a team that can recruit nationally, but it’s terrible for WSU and OSU.
I can easily envision a scenario where these two teams look to joining the MWC. Oregon State should go to the WAC and dominate it ala Boise–they’d get more respect then finishing 5th or 6th in the Pac-10 Northern Division.
I think Scott had to salvage a two division and championship game approach, but the league is not getting much in return.
I think one of the biggest reasons Utah was offered was because of their strength. They’re 7-3 in their last 10 Pac-10 games so, theoretically they’re viewed as a “strong” team and the more “strong” teams a conference has, the better the conference looks. So now if Utah kicks Alabama’s butt, it’s another Pac-12 over the SEC which is a boost to the “reputation” of the conference.
Jarrell Oliver committed to Utah. WTF
I was never sold on Oliver anyway. I just think he’s a slow version of Michael Hart. I’d rather have Jonny Martin from San Diego. He plays the same style. But he has more speed, and he has more room on his frame for added muscle. 5’11”, 190 and speed beats out 5’9″ (maybe), 190 (maybe) and less speed.
I still like Courtney Williams from Davis, Ca. He runs in and out. He catches out of the backfield or from the slot. And he stays in for protection when he’s needed.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Brandon Wright go to Cal. He’s been visiting there several times for camps and combines.
And I thought Riley was high on Malcolm Agnew out of St. Louis. So I don’t know why anyone has their heart set on any one player.
Do you think we’ll offer Wiiliams? I heard Agnew loved his visit here.
I don’t like Agnew. Williams looks great. What’s his offer sheet? I’m sure it’s pretty huge and we’re not in the mix, because he looks like the real deal.
Agnew’s tape looks decent. Williams has zero offers.
I’d be happy landing Williams. He looks good.
Bruce Reed is leading his recruitment, though. That isn’t a good thing.
I’d love to get Williams. I don’t think there’s much wrong with Agnew. I think he has great balance. I just think Williams is further along as a football player.
Williams was here for the spring game. Anyone hear how that went?
BCS bowls in the past 5 years: Utah 2, OSU 0. Plus a #2 and #4 finish.
Is this really surprising?
Again, Utah made out the best of any team from the chaos of the past two weeks–both financially and in terms of recruiting.
Anyone know anything about Keith McGill? He’s a JC S we’re targeting. He’s 6-4 214 and runs a 4.35 forty. Sounds intriguing.
Ummmm… DUDE!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hd70ePeIO6I&feature=related
This guy covers some ground.
Yeah…he’ll look great in the Utah or SC uniform chasing down the Beavs. But hopefully not.
On another note, seeing the start of ASU’s 2nd game in Omaha, they just seem out of sorts. Not aggressive. Not mentally there. Maybe a bit ‘entitled’? Like they looked at the field of competitors and saw a free shot into the big game? Not sure. They’re just sloppy looking.
He won’t end up at SC. They’re only going to have so many spots open with the reduction in scholarships. So I doubt they take a JUCO kid to rebuild.
ASU is just getting pounded in the bottom of the second.
A friend with an ESPN subscription tells me that QB Chad Jeffries from Glendora, Ca, camped at OSU and loved it. Apparently the coaches Langsdorf and Riley loved him and offered on the spot. The article says he’s ready to make a commitment between us and SDSU (who offered last week).
http://www.mefeedia.com/news/16273436
Top 10 at his position according to rivals. If he picks SDSU(which I highly doubt) I’m going to bang my head against the wall.
Rivals had an article up two days ago. I just went over to espn and watched his game film for free.
Most of his throws were in the flat or dumps to the TE, making it hard to gauge. The few throws downfield looked pretty good. He looks above average as a scrambler.
I’m not sure we need a QB in this class with Mannion redshirting and Lomax/Vaz, but the general rule is to take one every year. I’m somewhat excited about this player so I’d have no problem with an offer/signing.
He seems like a player who is growing into his frame. Even if we get an early commit, expect poachers after his senior film airs and he fills out more.
Just watched the film Jack posted. He plays “hyper” (jumps around a lot during throws and/or throws on the run often). At least it’s a controlled chaos, as he seems to have good vision and finds open players when the plays break down.
Rivals has this guy as a top 10 QB? That’s dubious. He looks really raw. Maybe because of his scrambling ability they ranked him that high.
He’s apparently hitting the combine and camp circuit very well. Apparently, he’s handily beating out QB’s like Kessler and Bercovici.
http://m.pasadenastarnews.com/psn/db_45408/contentdetail.htm;jsessionid=51701AC469750DB2F33EFA1468F257FB?contentguid=TaxLuTjN&detailindex=3&pn=0&ps=4
Another article about Jeffries.
http://www.insidesocal.com/tribpreps/2010/06/scouting-guru-t.html
See the note at the bottom of his article regarding Wallace Gonzalez. Everyone has talked about his attitude being poor, but to a man they all say he has the talent to be the top TE in the 2011 Class. I thought his ‘attitude’ had to do with a falling out with his baseball coach at the school he transferred from. He left that school and sat out of football and baseball his junior year… two sports he loves and is very good at. That’s quite a sacrifice to make for just having an attitude problem. I think there’s more to the story, and the ‘attitude’ thing came from his former coach getting out in front of the story to save face.
If Jeffries does commit to OSU, he has quite a bit of time to put muscle on his 6’3″, 195# frame. I’m always skeptical of ratings, but the perception would help generate some buzz for recruiting purposes.
It would also keep our staff from having to continue to evaluate QB talent. They need to concentrate their efforts elsewhere.
I don’t know if it would stop them from evaluating QBs. He’d likely have poachers and they’d need a backup plan. I don’t think Riley is desperate for a QB. Earlier in the year he said he was only taking one if it was the right guy.
Since we don’t have a need for a QB, a commitment would be a luxury. I don’t know if Riley chases another in this class unless we lose a commit and someone else really stands out during their senior year.
Besides, if you were a QB prospect looking at the Pac 10, what two schools would you look at?
“Besides, if you were a QB prospect looking at the Pac 10, what two schools would you look at?”
That depends. If I can get into Stanford I look at them first. Otherwise, USC.
After that, I’d look at Cal, OSU, UCLA, and Washington. In that order.
Baseball news: Romero signed with Seattle.
Duck news: Masoli entered the NFL supplementary draft.
JackBeavs, McGill is going to land at Utah (or SoCal if any of those schools offer). Not much interest in the Beavs.
There’s a logistics problem with USC. I think they only have 15 seniors leaving. More will transfer, and Fink will force attrition upon others. But that leaves only 15 maximum available slots for the coming year… I think.
What are the scholarship reductions at USC? Are they 10 less than the allowable 25 per class? Or are they just stuck at 75 players for three years?
I thought he liked his visit at Corvallis this past weekend?
There’s a difference between being polite to the fanbase and genuinely liking a place enough to play there 4 years. I know the Beaver recruiting sites will spin it towards the latter, but do not count on McGill being a Beaver. He is a city kid and will go to Salt Lake if SoCal doesn’t offer him.
Two years… he’s JUCO.
10 less for the next 3 years, so 15 commits per year. They cannot make up ground on players leaving until the sanctions are complete.
Beavs land Tyrequek Zimmerman, a 4.40 WR from Oklahoma with a good offer sheet.
Here’s his film and bio
http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=104924&action=upsell&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fncf%2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fplayer%3frecruitId%3d104924
He’s considered a home run threat at 4.40 and 6ft.
3-star recruit.
I think we’d all be happy with 3 stars like this. Seems high caliber.
“He runs a legit 4.4,” said his coach Randy Breeze. “His first step, he’s at max speed. And he squats over 500 pounds. We don’t have an offensive lineman within 100 pounds of his squat. He’s hard enough to cover, but once he catches it, he’s hard to bring down.”
Whatever. He sounds like a putz. :)
Same tape, different page.
http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5239275
How are the Beavs able to recruit such good players out of the state of Oklahoma? I can remember when we got Doctor as well and am excited to see him play in the coming years. Langsdorf must be the man.
From Zimmerman’s offer sheet on Rivals, I would say OSU is the best BCS school to offer him. Oklahoma and Texas did not.
I’m sure most people would say South Carolina is the best team to offer him. Legendary coach, SEC, etc.
YET.
He’s the #9 prospect in state. Ok State and Oklahoma will be after him. He also hasn’t visited Corvallis yet. The key now is holding on.
He reminds me of Stroughter.
Most sites have him ranked as the #4 player in Oklahoma. I think they get that from a local blog in Tulsa which puts out what they call the Super 30 in Oklahoma. Zimmerman is listed at #4. #1 committed to UT, #’s 2 & 3 to OU.
Check out the G-T article on him.
http://www.gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/article_758109ce-7eea-11df-b1b8-001cc4c002e0.html
He squats 570#? Who squats 570#?
And his junior stats are regular season only… as well as alternating series throughout the season. His stats stand out more because of that.
everything looks good; i just don’t think we’ll keep him.
i see tramaine thompson part 2.
Wow, I thought he was a Gamecock lock because he had family up there.
So did South Carolina. They’re wondering what happened. When the report that Oklahoma would not offer him came out, they thought they were a lock.
His coach said he was a really tough read, and he was waiting to see where his mom’s next billet would be. Maybe she ended up on the West Coast.
I think Oklahoma was the top of his list. He was invited to camps at Penn St and aTm, and he was hearing from a ton of other schools. So it’s interesting that he just shut everything down.
Here’s the article.
http://www.goupstate.com/article/20100616/PSPORTS02/100619700
Beavs land two from NC.
Beavs recruiting nationally? Maybe the pac-10 exposure of the past month has helped…
NC?
What positions?
A CB and WR
The CB looks like a player. Has offers from Cal and NC State. Good build for a corner. The WR is a 0-star recruits with no offers and little game film. In other words, a fairly typical OSU recruit.
Heyward landed the CB. I think that’s the first recruit he’s landed. Hopefully he continues to improve.
I wonder if he’s related. If there’s one thing I do trust, it’s Al Simmons’ ability to evaluate DB talent.
Jeremy Reynolds attended the US Army NUC in January. He was listed as the top 2011 ‘athlete’ prospect in the Southeast before his soph year… by Rivals. He plays both ways, and he’s something of a jack-of-all-trades player (runs, catches, defends, returns kicks). But everything I read about him is that he’s destined to be a CB… and a really good one at that. Cliff says he’s a winter enrollee.
Chris Lampkins is an unknown quantity because he’s unknown in high school football. Last fall was his first year of varsity football after a one year hiatus. He played JV ball his frosh year. Looking at his track & field numbers, I can say he has adequate speed, but not elite… which makes him perfect for his event (hurdles). He sounds like a really bright kid.
http://www.highschoolot.com/content/video/5740618/
Of course, both Reynolds and Lampkins both need to be bright to transfer to ORMA.
Seriously, Cal seems to always have great corners.
Reynolds looks good.
The other guy I’m not sold on, but I can’t find any tape so I’ll bite my tongue for now. The link you posted isn’t loading for me. Maybe get something up on orange bandits. ;)
I don’t know why the video doesn’t load for you. Does it still send you to HighSchoolOT.com?
Finally loaded for me. Bummer that there isn’t any game film. He does sound bright, though. That video made me like him as a human being. His football skills remain a mystery.
Am I off base here, or is OSU recruiting some light kids lately? I know these guys will redshirt and have time to build strength and weight, but there are tp me a surprising number of light RS freshman and sophomores. I’m curious to see if there’s a consistent problem in them ever getting on the field or having trouble holding up for a season. Anything less than 180 seems light (and I’m thinking positions like receiver/db), unless they have the height/weight ratio of the Rodgers brothers.
Don’t they always do this, though? The strategy seems to be “recruit undersized/underdeveloped guys and let them grow into their body/roles by junior year”
It’s not a bad strategy since everyone is busy chasing the 4-star guys. Not all 4-stars are the same–I’d take one that’s a 4-star because of speed rather than strength or size (i.e. “being ready to play” or “a men amongst boys”)–the college game catches up with the later. Recruit speed, fill in the body later.
That’s what Tom Osborne used to do.
Of course, he would sprinkle the highly rated recruits in with his worker bees.
That’s probably accurate; get 1 – 2 years of good production. Which makes it challenging to have all of your position groups mature at the same time and put you in a position to win it all; the cycle for that happening becomes less frequent the schools with real recruiting power.
What Riley has to be acknowledged for I think is demonstrably expanding recruiting and “going national.” I admit I underestimated the value of the camps that OSU will now stage and that should diversify their recruiting.
Yeah, those camps are huge. Generally you get under-recruited east coast kids, though. They’re going to camps out west to get on the map. Still, it’s good, especially now that we have 12 teams to compete with. The east coast has a tougher mentality, too.
Ok… this kid popped up on one of my google searches.
http://www.myspace.com/doe3boy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj2sKFfg834
He’s the 3rd guy w offered out of NC. Hopefully he commits to us over Wisconsin seeing we’ve already landed 2 of his teammates.
His myspace page says he got his first offer from OSU. He’s been offered by Wisconsin?
I like him. Sometimes you can just tell on a few plays, the way they carry themselves and “make” plays instead of just letting them come to them. Hope he signs.
Yea, that’s what Rivals says.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/oregonstate/football/recruiting/player-Kenzel-Doe-115182
This would be great, if we started opening pipeline son the east coast. (Where I live)
that’s where i used to live. what state are you in?
cool. i grew up in nj.
people in mass wear duck clothes?
pipelines on*
Massachusetts, and you should see the people with Duck clothes. I counter that with my Beaver shirts and hoodies ;)
People love the Beaver Fever shirts. It’s like the South Carolina Cocks name, but better :). Beaver, who doesn’t love it. I’m at school in Scotland now and always rep the Beavs, people love it.
Yea, surprises me too. Not like everybody, but I’ve seen multiple people.
Want me to recruit Jeffrey Lark? I kid, I kid.
Oklahoma recruits for the past few years and now grabbing kids out of NC. Gotta start somewhere.
It’s a good sign. We already have recruits from 3 different states, and I’m sure we’ll get a few more from others.
We have kids from three different states not called Oregon and California. I’m a little bit impressed on geography if nothing else.
yruretagoyena to oregon.
That kinda hurts… then it doesn’t.
It’s a little like any PG going to UA for hoops thinking they’ve put out a lot of good PG’s in past years. That was Lute Olson. This is Sean Miller. Good luck with tradition.
If tradition was any indicator, then the Beavs would still be cranking out Pac 10 players of the year.
So I think UO linemen to the NFL falls off. Greatwood is still drawing the best of talent. But that talent is old school, and Kelly’s offense needs some new thinking up front.
There is so little preparation for a pro-set offense at UO that linemen, RB’s and QB’s will end their football careers at the college level.
The Beavers have 5 linemen currently in the NFL, the Ducks have 4; the beavers have 3 QBs, the Ducks have 3 QBs, and the Beavers have 1 RB while the ducks have 4. I’m not sure your argument is true.
New system and coach. O-linemen play misdirection instead of straight up blocking. RB’s don’t run up the gut or against the grain anymore. And how many NFL QB’s are going to come out of their system now?
I should add that just because they end their careers there doesn’t mean they will not win. That’s all the staff wants is to win at the collegiate level. That still gets a lot of looks from scouts, but it also gets heavier scrutiny for the technical details of each position.
Apparently the big city is a little too much of a draw for some kids.
http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/ncf/news/story?id=5332135
I saw that. Beavs recruited two of those guys.
Another point as far as Utah joining, the league is not getting much in the other sports either. I think Utahs ship sailed in basketball when Rick Majerus left the program and baseball is second tier. What does that leave? Womens gymnastics?
It’s becoming more and more clear the zipper approach will be the one with which Scott goes. There’s a lot of pressure from the NW fans–thank God we have the clout of Oregon and Washington in the region.
The downside is what the ACC suffers from–people who don’t follow the conference will see it as a scatterbrain approach to the point it’s a turnoff. When I look at the ACC conferences I roll my eyes and turn the page to something that makes sense.
I don’t think people care what division they are in. I don’t know who’s in SEC East/West or was in Big 12 North/South, and I don’t care until the conference championship. So make something that is fair for the schools.
You’re talking about the Big 12 and SEC, though, which aren’t “zipper” conferences and make geographic sense. Try the ACC. It makes zero sense.
We just picked up OL Justin Addie from Arizona.
It’s hard to rank OL film, but he doesn’t get me too excited.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz3jV07xwk0
Reminds me of Timi O in playing upright and a bit stiff. Seems to lack real power, too. Looks like a project. Rivals gives him 3 stars. Scout 2. I think Scout is more accurate on this one.
He looks like he could turn into something special if he has the athleticism to play basketball.
Is that what you see when you watch his film?
As of right now, he looks like nothing special but the potential looks like it’s there.
Looking at Addie, I notice that he never gets pushed off his mark. Of course, it’s his tape. So why would we see any plays of him being handled? At least he’s smart enough to leave those plays off his tape.
He is a little too upright. But if what I hear about his wrist being broken (for two years?) is true, then that could explain a lot. Bending at the waist compensates for loss of mobility in the hands. As it was, he looks like he can lock onto a defender pretty well. Get him to bend his knees, rehab his arm with good strength and work a little on his footwork. Then he can be a good to great college lineman.
But he’s not going to step in on day one.
Sounds like you just described Timi O.
Chad Jeffries verbals to San Diego State.
Probably best for him. It would probably be a long time before he saw the field at OSU. I think most QB prospects see the youth logjam and back off.
Keith McGill, as expected, to Utah.
Another position of depth at OSU. I don’t think he was ever offered.
He sure can cover a lot of ground though.
