Home Athletics 2010 Beaver Academic Casualities?

2010 Beaver Academic Casualities?

189

The Bridge Program begins next week. I went through the directory to see who isn't yet enrolled. It's a long list, one that includes 5 of the best prospects from the 2010 class.

1. Shaydon Akuna

2. Thomas Molesi

3. Fred Thompson

4. Scott Crichton

5. DJ Welch

6. Mana Tuivailala

7. Malcolm Marable

8. Dominic Glover

I have it on good authority that Molesi and Tuivailala never make it to Corvallis. Akuna's odds are 50-50. Considering Akuna and Molesi were arguably the top 2 recruits last year, their inability to qualify could be devastating to the program. If all the players on the list above fail to quality (which won't happen), that would be a class of 8 recruits. To take some chances makes sense, but to take this many chances when there were only 17 scholarships available is football suicide. In Riley you trust? Cross your fingers, Beavlettes.

    • Before that happens they’ll try to get them enrolled by January as greyshirts. If that fails, yes, the scholarships would become available, but it would probably be too late in the recruiting cycle (January) to use them. Maybe on JCs, etc? Though, knowing Riley, he will probably hand them out to walk-ons.

  1. LOL….proving YET again what a dumbass you.

Cliff K, you know the guy who gets paid to cover OSU responded to your comment on his blog. In a nutshell, he called you an idiot….which you are.

    • Me and Cliff are tight.

I graduated magna cum laude from your university.

So there you have it, both your hypothesis proved wrong with two simple sentences. Why don’t you rate my blog 1 star one more time? Maybe that will make you feel good.

  2. I honestly believe only four of these players (Tuivailala, Welch, Molesi, and Glover) fail to qualify when all is said and done. The names you definitely want to see are Thompson, Crichton, and Akuna.

  3. Considering how much you crap on Blitz, it’s hilarious that you pulled a post off their board, added an even more negative slant to it, and are running it as if you came up with this all on your own.

Do you really think nobody notices when you read something there and then try to pass it off here as your own info?

    • Sorry, I don’t read Blitz–they banned me, can’t access it if I wanted to.

But it sounds like they’re ripping me off AGAIN.

      • Of course you don’t read Blitz. LOL!

Come on – you already blew your cover when you got all upset when people on Blitz were crapping on your blog and you wrote a post about it – and that was long after your “banning”. Do you think that folks will just forget that yourself have cut-n-pasted stuff into your blog directly off the Blitz boards? All the shots you’ve taken at the site and the Machados?

Yeah, we totally believe that you don’t read Blitz after all those posts.

Must really suck that you’re trying to bill this blog as an alternative to sites like Blitz, yet you rely so much on it for your content. And, yeah, you’re the guy that is going to give the fans the “real truth” about OSU athletics… but, you won’t admit you’re stealing content from Blitz.

Sad, sad, sad you intellectually dishonest douche.

      • I have many Beaver friends, one of them has a subscription there. He tells me when you guys are ripping me off. How about that new writer, Travis, who is angrybeaver LE? Talk about ripping off…

        • Whether or not anyone else believes your lies about not reading Blitz and where your info comes from doesn’t really matter much to me.

Just the fact that you want to portray yourself as a straight shooter and you love to claim the moral high ground, yet you and I both know that you have to keep lying and stealing content, and that is tremendously amusing to me. I only wonder if it bothers you and you realize how sad that is, or if you’re merely a pathological liar in all facets of your life and can’t separate your lies from the truth.

You know the truth, and you know that I too know the truth. How’s that feel?

    • “it’s hilarious that you pulled a post off their board, added an even more negative slant to it, and are running it as if you came up with this all on your own.”

      ahh yes, recruitment.

blitz is the only board who can discuss this topic authentically! umm angry is writing about the most general topic possible lol

    • WOW, read the facts.

The kid wanted to play early and he wasn’t going to get that chance at OSU. So he opted to stay close to home and get some early playing time. Can’t fault a kid for that.

But as is typical with the few that follow angry, you are short on facts and truth, and high on hate for OSU and Riley’s staff.

      • And his hate for Riley and OSU led him to believe that it was better than SDSU?

Your logic escapes you. Quit hating, and be a nice moron please.

Yes, you can fault a kid for wanting early playing time at the QB position. There are only a rare few who can pull it off successfully. And even they seem to disappear more often than naught. The smart recruit will look at his third year in-system (including one redshirt year) to see where he might stand. Jeffries sees himself behind two seniors and a junior at that point. If he’s afraid to compete for the starting position at that time, then you can’t fault him for wanting to go somewhere other than OSU. If he wants to stay home, then you can’t fault him.

If he wants early playing time and he thinks he can’t get it at OSU, then you can easily fault his thought process. He knows his limitations, so he lowers the bar so as to minimize them. He thinks he isn’t good enough to win a job early, and he’s afraid to compete for it.

If you find zero fault in that, then it would just reinforce my assessment of you based on your posts.

      • I like that you rate yourself thumbs up AAB. You’re pathetic as well as funny.

Thanks for trying to read my comment. Instead of giving it the thumbs down, though, you can look up some of the words and try to actually understand it.

Good luck on your continued education.

  4. I think you’re confusing the ONID accounts with a viable source for enrollment information. As I understand it, these accounts are accessible to anyone admitted or registered. But not everyone has access to a computer. And not all incoming frosh are concentrating on linking their ONID accounts until the START session begins next Thursday.

I think the dates to remember are July 8-9 for START and July 14 for BEST Bridge.

    You can worry after that.

    • ONID accounts are often set up whether a student has done anything to activate it. I know a lot of students who are starting next fall that had their onid account names already reserved last spring.

  5. What I’ve heard so far is that Molesi may be the only academic casualty for fall enrollment. Since Molesi will mission, I don’t know how much we miss him. He would be a great talent if he would just focus. If he doesn’t, then he loses that opportunity… or ends up at SDSU in three or four years. It sucks for all involved, but only one person can do anything about it.

I’ve heard different rumors regarding Tuivailala. I think the most accurate is one that sources Coach Avila at Seaside. Apparently 75% of the 2010 class were ineligible in their frosh year of high school. There seems to be some problem with retention at Seaside HS. The coach worked to bring all but two around to be successful in school. Tuivailala was not one of the two. His problems arise from his lack of focus as a frosh. He needs to raise his core class grades by retaking some frosh courses over the summer. Apparently his frosh year was a train wreck because he had just moved to the US. So his impetus for successfully retaking core coursework during the summer session is to not have to sit in frosh classes during the fall. That kind of embarrassment might be enough to make him work it.

Welch was scheduled as a winter enrollee because of grades/classes to be taken. I’ve heard almost nothing that changes that other than he has a plan in place, and he was working that plan. Pretty vague if you ask me. He’d be a great addition, but I don’t think his presence does more than add depth at this point… at least at LB.

I really like the 2010 Class. If Hamlett would become Coach Cav’s best friend, I think there’s potential for great play from everyone.

I don’t know what to think of the 2011 Class yet.

I think the linemen are middle-of-the-road talents who can be coached up, but they could show great improvement this fall for various reasons. I don’t worry too much about what Coach Cav does. He’ll get the most from walk-ons, so getting middle-of-the-road talent doesn’t hurt. Other than Mitchell, Euscher and Johnstone, I don’t know who I really want. Nowicki, Hobbi, Aiono or Fa’afoi… but who knows what kids are thinking these days?

I really like Reynolds and Zimmerman. I don’t know much of anything about Lampkins.

    • I know the guy above is bashing my reputation, so you can take this with however many grains of salt help the wound, but what I have heard (and believe) is four of these guys are out. Tuivailala, Molesi, Welch, and Glover. Akuna is 51%/49% in the positive direction.

The fact that Riley is on the record saying two will not make it made me scratch my head when Cliff said one.

    • I hadn’t heard that Riley said anything. Glover wouldn’t be a big surprise either considering how he ended up where he is. I don’t think many people would be surprised to never see Welch either.

Academic casualties are just a part of the process

      Apparently, so are moron trolls.

  6. There’s so many trolls on this blog I can’t even read it anymore. I come to see what Beaver fans think or what they’ve heard. If I don’t like it I quit coming back.

Some people don’t seem to adhere to that simple policy, so it’s just some moron blathering on about how he hates the blog with no real contribution. It’s too bad. It’s the disease of blogs of all types I’m affraid.

I guess some Oregonians (current or former) just can’t get enough of that rain on someone else’s parade, as it’s all they know.

    • Seriously, though, the trolls aren’t bad here. It’s just two guys using a handful of names. I could ban them, but I think we secretly like poking fun at them. I know I do. If majority wants them gone I could ban them. Think about the mob mentality, though. That thought process got me banned from a handful of Beaver blogs–not sure I want to do it to someone else, even if he’s bashing me.

      • I like that you don’t ban them. Dissenting opinions only make us better. Besides, maybe one day they will see the light and make valuable comments to the blog (albeit dissenting) that challenge us to think and discuss.

        • Dissenting opinions are okay. Just state what you think about the subject. I get tired of

…”well Oregon State is gonna have a hard time this year with this tough schedule”. Are you kidding? You moron butt puppet ass clow retard, you’re stupid and everything you say is stupid and I’m smart and your dumb, every time you talk to stupid ass turd sucker, blah blah…you misspelled this and that, and didn’t puncuate correctly, and…

Just say, “I disagree, I think this is one of their best teams in a decade and think they’ll rise to the occasion, as BSU and TCU will expect to win and will be huge favorites. They win one those games.

Maybe a 2nd blog called, “I hate the Angry Beaver blog” will provide adequate ranting room for those that just want to rip people?

  7. Shirley and both Richardsons got the boot from UCLA. Dare I say we try to bring one or a couple of them aboard? Do we risk thug vs. talent?

    • What’s interesting is that they are not allowed to enroll in fall classes. One would presume that being admitted to UCLA is not conditional upon one’s playing for the football team.

      Wouldn’t one?

      • Not sure what the rules of enrollment state, but maybe the felony charge prevents it?

Rick pulled a Chip Kelly on this one. I wonder what his rules of conduct for reenlistment are? “Do not get convicted of another felony between now and January”

Can someone in this sport grow a backbone?

        • I agree. Though, I would say Mack Brown had a backbone with the Davis kid that the Ducks picked up. Of course, its alot easier to be generous with your money when you’re rich.

  8. Now now Angry, didn’t your mother ever tell you that lying isn’t something a good little blogger does? Yes, you are banned from posting in the Lodge, and rightfully so, but you are not banned from reading the content that both you and I pay for. How else can you post a screen shot from a pay to read website? Whats that? You don’t know what I’m talking about? Remember this post…http://angrybeavers.wordpress.com/2010/02/14/blitzers-who-want-to-berate-this-blog/? For such an esteemed blogger, I would say posting premium material from another website is shameful behavior. So long for now angry, but we’ll be back to see how our special little Beaver is doing.

    And remember, fish will bite….

      • It’s not Shov angry, but I do think it’s cute that you always think I am him. But let’s be honest Angry, where do you get all your recruiting information? Kirkpatrick’s blog? Oregonlive.com? The endless amount of connections you have with high school football coaches? We both know where your information comes from, whether you admit it or not. Now go ahead and respond, I’ll let you have the last word. I really hope you have a snappy comeback, I havn’t had a good chuckle in a while. Not since you broke down Riley’s ability to recruit anyways.

      • I know who has admin rights, so you’re Shov, Ponderingbeaver or JPTheBeaver. Based on your arrogance and wordiness, probably the latter.

    • THAT’S premium material? You PAY for THAT?

It seems I’ve vastly overestimated you Blitz kiddies by assessing you all as spiteful little stalker morons. If you consider this fun, you should allow me some time on your blog.

Your generally pathetic and grammatically incoherent quips can’t even pass for witticisms. You constantly come to this site and harass and stalk its denizens with these banal blurbs while complaining of some mystery harm done to your wussy senses.

You are the people I should be thanking profusely for all those good grades I got in classes with Bell Curves.

      Thank you… less-than-spiteful-little-stalker-moron people.

      • And JackBeav strikes again! And no silly, I don’t simply pay to view that single screen shot. I pay for information about recruits that can’t be found elsewhere. I also am accepted into a community of beaver fans that view things in both positive and negative lights. I know angry gets off on saying that we run around with our orange color glasses, while sniffing Riley’s rearend, but that’s just because he is still aggravated about being banned from posting. He must of forgot to read the sign that said no fishing in the Lodge.

And actually JB, can I call you JB? I should be thanking your kids for being the type of students who bring down the class average on tests, which in turn keeps my college GPA stellar! Here is to a younger, smarter, and better looking college grad taking your job one day.

        • That would be, must “have” forgot, or more correctly, “forgotten.” I mean, you brought up academics so your shortcomings in the writing department are fair game.

Folks who can’t write calling other people stupid is an endless source of amusement for me.

        • It’s an endless source of annoyance for me.

          a. I don’t want to have to edit/proof every comment as to avoid criticism.
          b. Comments are not a grammar test. I got A’s on those.
          c. It’s a grasping-at-straws retort.
          d. It’s a giant dick measuring contest.

I have a book on amazon.com fwiw. I’d never promote that fact except it might help these hapless goons realize how little their opinion means. It’s like telling Ted Williams he’s a bad hitter. I suppose if they say it enough it might come true (at least in their own distorted reality).

        • “Here is to a younger, smarter, and better looking college grad taking your job one day”

Since he’s calling himself young, it’s probably that guy Travis. He is the one who got an objectivity lecture from Mamma Machado after I berated them for their slant. Talk about influence and ripping off…

      • Listen stalker dude…

You and your wussy sensibilities can always talk your weak trash in your Lodge. If you think the information on recruits is only ever found on Blitz, then you are sadly mistaken. Even if the information is broken on Blitz, how long does it take to make your waste of money apparent… twenty or thirty minutes tops?

So now I know three things:
        1. You like to stalk people online.
        2. You claim many things without providing any proof whatsoever. Proof would make you less of a moron stalker boy and more of a somewhat less than intelligent stalker boy.
        3. Attacking the children and parents of people with whom you disagree–while poorly transcribing their wit–is a habit for you. You claim that angry steals from some pathetic gathering of wussy stalkers. Yet you steal from my comment in your response to said comment… and very very poorly at that.

And no, you may not call me JB. People call me Jack. JB is too similar to that demonstrated pedophile stalker boy from Blitz… JPtheBeaver. That guy seriously creeps me out.

You all can come here and speak all you want. But demonstrating 10th grade English skills and 7th grade math skills will never place you all in the ‘smarter’ category. Poorly and blatantly stealing someone’s ideas for a retort barely gets you above the ‘I know you are, but what am I?’ crowd.

I’m enjoying this only slightly. I’ve dealt with much more capable minds from the stalker dark side while playing on political message boards. Don’t you have anyone over on Blitz who can demonstrate half a wit?

  9. This discourse reminds me of the 1895 8th grade education canard.

Those who believe that blind faith is the only measure for fandom, patriotism or religious enlightenment fail to recognize the depth which exists in any of the three. Secular questions can not be answered with simple adherence to faith. That simplicity is what forms the questions themselves.

And a wish to return to the ‘old ways’ speaks more to the willful ignorance of the faithful than it does to the admitted ignorance of secular questions. A thirst for knowledge begins with the admission of ignorance and the formation of a challenging question–if not to the faithful, then at least to the curious.

The answer may not lead to anything more profound than reality, but at least the question was asked and answered. Those who admonish the question alone are weak and fearful.

  10. On a side note:
    http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindbeaversbeat/2010/06/oregon_state_hires_scott_rueck.html

I remember Rueck from intramural hoops and pick-up games around campus. He has a better handle than he does an outside shot. And he’s quicker than he thinks he is, which led to him not driving as much as he should have.

I remember one time I got called for a foul on a play where he telegraphed the wing inlet so badly that the ball left an imprint on my forearm. The slap was apparently so loud that the ref thought he had to disbelieve his eyes and call a foul. I walked up to the ref and pointed at all the little ball dimples forming purple patterns all over my arm, but he was not swayed by this evidence. I always suspected that my shoulder was partially separated on that play as well.

All in all, he’s quite competitive and slow to anger… on the floor at least. I don’t know him personally. I think he’s a good pick.

    • It’s a great hire. Bob D never messes up more than once. Always gets the second hire right. That’s more than most can say about their ADs.

    • I do not know the new coach except from all the articles I read around the WWW.
But for anything else, he seemed to be respected and highly regarded around the community. Oregon State could sure use a coach that potential recruits/players (and their families) feel they can trust.

So sure looks like a good hire. I hope his successes can translate well to D-1 level

    • I haven’t heard of him, and I’m not sure why either Boise State or OSU is recruiting him. There are many larger, faster and quicker prospects in Oregon, let alone the West Coast. I’m going to be angry if we’re recruiting this type of player but let diamonds like Euscher, Granillo, Devereux and Plinke go elsewhere.
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfR_oINQemc

    • I don’t see the positional possibilities for Loffler at OSU.

He might develop into a QB at Boise with time. But they just brought in Hedrick, and he will shine in their system.

He has decent quickness, but his long stride is his only stride. So any offensive skill positions are not likely. He has decent ball skills, but he doesn’t cover much ground in the secondary. So a DB position would be a major stretch. He doesn’t show any downhill aggressiveness on D, so bulking up to be a LB or DE (or even safety) seems unlikely.

I don’t really get this one. He must just be a nice, intelligent young man who listens to his coaches. Maybe the staff at either school thinks that and his measurables will translate to a productive role one day.

      • I could see him being a big-bodied possession WR like Morales or Adeniji. That’s nice and all but not something to lose sleep over.

      • He’s slow in traffic and shows no toughness on film. There are many many prospects who make a living on going over the middle with grit because they know they don’t have the speed. Why take someone who has to spend years learning that trait when there are others who have made it a habit?

      • Yeah, don’t get me wrong, I am essentially glad Boise State took this guy off our hands. I was biting my tongue and trying not to say that, but yeah.

  11. I think I should list who I actually want for football prospects.
    QB – meh
    RB – Courtney Williams
WR – T Zimmerman, Chance Early, Duke Bukoski… I’ve heard that Richard Mullaney is a bigger, faster Mike Hass from other than Beav fans… I can live with that.
    TE – Wallace Gonzalez III
OL – James Euscher, Tyler Johnstone, Alex Mitchell… maybe also Sioane Aiono and Faitele Fa’afoi

DB – KT Tu’umalo, Rahmel Dockery, Chris Gonzalez, Brian Clay Jr. … I like Reynolds as well… he and Doe were just way off the radar.
DE – Hayden Plinke, Dylan Wynn, Brennan Scarlett
DT – Matthew Devereux, Vei Moala, Jesse Williams
LB – Danny Granillo, Blake Renaud, Rahim Cassell, Colt Lyerla

Obviously there are many here who are nationally recruited, but this is a list of who I want… not who I think we’ll get.

  12. Do you have any film on Doe?

Dylan Wynn is a Duck if they offer–he raves about the facilities and is quoted as saying he’s just waiting for an offer. Even if the Ducks don’t want him, they’ll extend an offer to keep him from the Beavs. He’ll fall for it.

Lyerla will likely be a Duck as well. Though he could wind up in California. His recruitment has gone national, which means the Beavs are out of the picture, or at best 1%, so it’s pointless to discuss him unless he flat out says he has high interest.

Renaud is going to follow Wynn. It’s the one thing that may have kept the Ducks from offering thus far–I don’t think they want Renaud.

    • Yeah, the Ducks are stupid that way. Renaud would be a DT in their system… whatever system there is on the defensive side. I’m wowed by the Ducks’ facilities when I walk into them… except for the new hoops arena. Why would they duplicate the angle of the bowl and the tiered seating at Mac Court? They get it right at the stadium named after an OSU alum, but they can’t figure it out for hoops. Anyway, I don’t think EweOh offers Wynn because they think they can ruin some other kid’s potential by bringing them into their fold. They may eventually offer, but it will only be after Fink or Weasel manage to take the highly ‘rated’ players off the board. Imagine the scenario being like Crichton’s recruitment last year.

I never thought we’d get Lyerla, but it doesn’t stop me from wanting him to see the light. He’d be an amazing LB at OSU. He’ll still be pretty good at EweOh, but he’ll never be on a defense that stops anyone.

Scarlett may be the same way. I could really see him going to Notre Dame, and I wouldn’t blame him if he did.

I would have said Moala goes to USC before the sanctions, but he might now be looking at Cal first, everyone else next.

Everything you ever wanted to know about Kenzel Doe… plus his tape:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj2sKFfg834

      • Doe looks legit. Probably a mid to high 3-star prospect when all is said and done. He’s fluid, catches with his hands, runs nice routes. It says 4.40 speed on his bio. Pretty sure every kid just loves to write that. Looks more like 4.43-4.5 on film. His QB looks horrendous (constantly under throws the ball), which makes gauging him more difficult. Overall pretty good. I’d much rather have this player than the WR who just went to Boise State.

Also, how many WRs are we taking? Jeesh.

    • I know you’re being facetious, but the Ducks go through 3 QBs in a given year. The perils of running the spread.

That Masoli never got hurt was an aberration not the norm.

    • See? That makes me feel a lot better than the Loffler tape does. He’s a little late on his reads, but his release makes up for it.

So now we’re done with QB’s and WR’s?

    • Good find on that game film.

This player looks very good. Possibly a 4-star athlete?

      Pros:
      1. Good arm
      2. Tough (notice he doesn’t go to the ground on a sneak by plows ahead? Good sign).
      3. From Texas–it’s just a different brand of football.
      4. Good to very good speed and mobility.
      5. Plays with confidence (anyone know the competition level in this area?).

      Cons:
      1. Throws off back foot too often.
      2. Height/weight.

He reminds me of a Jake Plummer/Colt McCoy hybrid.

As far as Doe, did anyone notice his punt return? Specifically, how similar he looked to James Rodgers. I’m not one to compare x to y based solely on size or frame, but watching that punt return was eerie. Go watch the film again if you missed it.

      • All the listings differ from his page. He lists himself as 6’3″, 200# on the link provided by Warren.

He also bats .456 as a SS?

  13. Anyone see College Football Live Today. Nothing new but they did interview Quizz, a little surprised that they gave OSU so much love. They also showed his Heisman recruiting video.

    • We’ve been beaten by so many of them that we need to at least have one on the practice squad if not incorporated into the offense.

  14. Per Buker “Add, Ashton: came with strong recommendation of Dallas QB Jon Kitna, who sent film to cousin (and ex-Beav) Casey Kjos .. small world, eh?”

    Pretty interesting.

  15. It can’t be coincidence that Doe wears #8, right?
I love his film…it’s amazing how he goes out and gets the ball/catches with this hands. He also looks more like 5″9 to me.

  16. I watched College Football Live, and we got a lot of good press. They started off with teasers, one which mentioned Quizz and showed some clips.

Then they talked about Tuberville’s comments about inequity in the Big Xii and how that will just kill the conference in a couple years. Kuselius asks Andre Ware and Brock Huard if he should apologize, and they both say, “For what? It’s what everyone thinks.”

Big East is wide open… blah blah blah…. Coming up… ‘Quick Quizz’ teaser with clips of Quizz… BREAK.

They come back on the 11 minute mark with their edit of the OSU ‘Quizz for Heisman’ video. It alternates between Quizz talking and clips of him working it… and they show the ‘I am Orange’ at the end. Someone in marketing was very happy today.

Then they show his carries and the proportions which went for certain distances. 20+ is 18, 10-19 is 74, 5-9 is 201, 1-4 is 140 and <1 is 99. 2700 yards on 532 carries, and 99 of them were for 0 or less yards.

Phone interview with Kuselius throwing out softballs. Quizz does well not to sound rehearsed for the simplicity of the questions. They cover Heisman talk (just win), strength of schedule (make their mark), James (with clips), Barry Sanders (with NFL clips), Pac 10 favorite (OSU), Civil War (he says three's a charm).

Then Andre Ware compares Quizz to Darren Sproles and lines up clips for comparison.

Then Huard talks about nine returning starters for the offense and lists them with their number of starts. Bishop and Halahuni stand out with 4 and 2 starts respectively. Missing is a RG, Wheaton and Katz. Huard says, 'notice no QB', and he goes on to first list the last three QB's in the system to go to the pros and then tell how Riley quietly develops QB's in the system. Then he talks a lot of ifs about Katz producing/managing/leading and the chances for the Beavs looking good.

BREAK at the 17 minute mark.

  17. We have seven commits from five different states, and none of them are from our time zone or west of it.

Last year we had 19 commit from four different states… 3 from Wa, 2 from Or, 1 from Hi and 13 from Ca.

  18. I talked to a friend of mine in LA this morning, and he says we shouldn’t believe everything we hear about Devon Moreland. He’s apparently just wanting to cruise down I-10 to UCLA, but his parents want him out of town. So EweOh is all over it with thinking he’s in the bag.

My friend tells me Moreland kinda likes the Ducks and all their toys, but they may not be the only Oregon school in play. I’m told that he’s been getting a lot of love from OSU coaches, and he’s starting to warm to the idea.

Downtown LA is Heyward recruiting territory. Are we seeing him finally come into his own as a recruiter? Regardless of whether we get Moreland or not, simply being in a discussion I had written off a couple months ago speaks to a lot of improvement on his part.

      • Graduated but didn’t qualify? Re-taking core courses?

I believe Reynolds and Doe are coming in January as well. Where they fall in terms of 2010 or 2011 doesn’t really matter so long as our classes are so small. We can only offer so many scholarships anyway. Where it might help is with the 2012 Class. We have a lot of guys leaving that year, and attrition may push the total past 25. If we can keep the numbers allocated forward, we can take in more than 25 in that year.

    • That would make a little sense. His tape says he’s a 2010 grad, so why is he still available? He chooses some bad plays for his tape. He looks tentative as a LB in some… like he’s trying to showcase something other than solid LB play. He looks more like a missile in Moreland’s tape… which concentrates on Moreland.

When will kids realize that when I see a play once I don’t need to watch it two more times, each time slower than the previous? If I want to watch a WOW moment again, I have the means to rewind this computer video thingy all by myself.

Anyone remember the JUCO DE recruit named Josh Williams about three years ago? What happened to him?

      • I’m going to watch this film when I come home from work. From what you’re saying I’m not going to be too impressed…

      • You’ll be impressed in waves. Some plays show him playing like a DB waiting on the play to flow to him. Others show a gap-filling violence that we like to see. Even on the poor plays, he shows he can shed blocks pretty easily with quickness and strength. So the aggressive downhill mentality he shows at RB can easily translate to solid LB play.

If you watch Devon Moreland’s tape, you’ll see him stand out a little more. He apparently lines up behind Moreland a lot, and that may be why he had 110 tackles and was All-Sectional last year.

The disappointment in the tape comes from the poor choices made while making the tape. It’s not nearly as bad as Ricky Heimuli’s tape is, but it’s along those lines.

      • Yeah I don’t love that film. What I see is a penalty machine. That is, a lot of high hits and out of control play. Looks like it takes him a while to get to full speed laterally. His hits are somewhat impressive, but they’re down field after the catch or run has been made (even when playing LB). It could be worse (see Burton Kekoning).

        • At least there is some potential with this kid. if you can get him to get his hitting under control and be more aggressive towards plays, he could be decent.

    • Isn’t that the second guy you’ve compared to Forte?

I watched it a 2nd time, too. He has a bit of the “slasher” style in him; more than I notice the first time. He reminds me a bit of McCants.

I like this guy more, though. He looks really aggressive and confident. The one problem (ironically, since McCants suffers from this, too) I see is that he holds the ball out too far. I’m curious how many fumbles he had in his HS career.

To these eyes this guy is a high 3-star talent.

      I re-watched Agnew’s film. He looks better than I remembered…

      • I thought you were a little harsh on Agnew. He shows on film a lot like Gio did with his balance and vision. He just doesn’t run up the gut enough for my liking.

I’m trying to remember who else I might have compared o Forte.

        • I might have compared Cameron Roberson or Deontae Cooper to Forte, but those two rely more on their speed than they rely on their footwork through the line.

      • Gio/Agnew is a decent comparison, actually.

Gio was a bit more compact (low center of gravity blah blah) and a gear faster, but it’s not far off.

  19. JackBeav, post the link to your site so I/we can check out some film.

ps. Rivals actually makes people pay to watch film. I thought you’d get a kick out of that. Not even espn goes that far.

  20. I was looking for overall individual stats for Pflugerville, but they don’t break down to fumbles. But I did learn why he was under the radar.

In 2009 he had 47 carries for 449 yards and 5 TD’s… one catch for 19 yards. He was hurt and out for the season (sprained right knee) less than a minute into the third quarter of the third game–in which he had 10 carries for 81 yards and a TD. Apparently it was one of those injuries that wasn’t bad enough for surgery, but he kept thinking he would be back in a week or two… like Gio’s injury last year.

  21. Two things:

    1. The signing of a guy against last years class means angrybeaver was right again–we’ve lost more than just Molesi. And they were outraged on rivals/pure-orange about me just days ago!

    2. Someone just informed me they’re talking about the Quiz video over on the rivals.com forum. I guess they’re ripping us off yet again

    *rolls eyes*

    • I’m pretty sure they have someone who checks the official OSU site and found the video… or, more likely, there’s someone who sits and watches ESPN all day every day.

I wouldn’t call this one a rip off by a long shot.

And you can sign people against last year’s class as long as the total doesn’t exceed 25… including last year’s class. So all the gray shirts count against last year’s class as well so long as the enroll by winter term.

  22. over 95% of the responses on this site are the same person: angrybeavers, jack, and beavgal (aka your left hand). there must be more to life…

    • Over 95% of your mental acuity is obscured. How else would you think that three very distinct dictions are the creation of just one mind.

If you truly believe this, then you must think that I (since I am so obviously the other two as well) am a friggin’ genius with three computers at my disposal at any one time. To layer three vastly distinct vocabularies and styles one on top of the other and in rapid-fire fashion would be a feat so magnificently brilliant that Einstein, Bohr and Hawking would all applaud the effort.

I’ve heard that Danny Kaye could hold two different conversations while also writing with both hands, but what you’re talking about is freakishly genius.

Thanks for thinking I work brilliantly
But it simply can not be
The truth is I am neither he nor she
Neither is she me nor he
      This you learned for free

Good luck on your continued education. Drop by for another lesson anytime.

    • I’m pretty sure angry’s covered this ad nauseum, but he doesn’t give a flying j if one person reads this blog. The fact that he and jackbeav converse back and forth via comments so often is just a testament to both of their interest in the subject and non-interest in what you (and those like you) think about him.

  23. #1 you and angrybeaver sound exactly the same…
    #2 beavgal just says hahaha…

your standards for genius should be examined…

    • You must be one of those people who walks around saying that all blacks/Asians/etc all look the same. You might as well buy only one non-picture book for your ‘library’, because they all sound the same to you.

I guess I should just leave it alone. You stalker kiddies started off unoriginal, but you’re just becoming a vast pile of retreads. You manage to present the perfect storm of conceit and pettiness, but it ages about as well as a spoonful of mayonnaise in the hot sun. I should have stopped considering you anything more than a pile of illness long ago.

So it’s in the trash with you. Say hello to the other small beers in your shallow and dishonorable cabal.

      Magno conatu magnas nugas

      • I get it now.

You and Angry are just both nerds.

So the Blitz vs. Angry feud is just the next iteration of a High School/Revenge of the Nerds situation.

        :P

        • Of course I’m a nerd. I’ve never claimed differently.

I can also spot you 20 and beat you to 21 in hoops.

I won’t say that I can beat you in a mile race, but if you can’t run a sub-five minute race then I’ll spot you 15 seconds in that also. I’m getting slow in my old age, or I would have spotted you 45 seconds.

          • I can say that I swung a bat for the first time years this spring, and it felt so foreign that I was lost at the plate for a couple at bats. It was sad for someone who used to hit with power and direction from both sides of the plate. I can say that I am now decidedly mediocre at softball/baseball.

        • I’ve played angry in basketball, and I can say, he will destroy you with his outside shot. He also will strike you out with his junkballs and burn you in the flat. I’m not kidding.

          • I gleefully concede the small ball game, but I’m 6’4″, 215#, and I don’t let people shoot from the outside… and I don’t let people drive on me… and you have to outweigh me by 50# to back me down the lane.

I make the ‘spot you 20, beat you to 21’ wager and most people just laugh–as they should. The game is almost never played with those conditions, but there is no laughing when the game ends at 21-3.

  24. Off topic, but in Miller’s opinion, the Beavs have the 3 of the top 6 players in the conference:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/pac10/post/_/id/10867/ranking-the-pac-10s-top-25-no-2

God I hope the O-line can do Quizz justice and Riley can take the next step this season…again, with USC out of post-season play, Oregon’s loss of Masoli, and OSU’ home schedule, this is the time to do it.

I think Katz is going to be fine, and not have AS rough a first year as most Beaver qb’s. He’s just got SO much to work with that opposing D’s have to respect.

  25. Guys, I found a domain name that I like, so this blog will likely be moving at some point. I’ll give an update on the new format once I plan it out. We’ll be a .com and have some fun options.

    • Nice! Are you going to set up a forum? Seems like every post you make ends up with at least 5 different topics being discussed in the comments. Having a forum would make it a lot easier to follow all the different items…
