Somewhat off topic, but I am listening to the Rays/Tigers game on the radio, and there is a guy who sounds like Jim Wilson doing the game. Makes me wonder why Jim Wilson isn’t doing bigger things. He is the best broadcaster the Beavs have ever had. Astute and interesting points, always spot on. Great voice. Not an emotional basketcase like Parker. Anyone know Jim, and why he hasn’t moved to better things?
Schedule is as follows:
Friday 7pm
Saturday 4pm
Sunday 12 noon
With the weather we’ve had in Beaverton this week I’d love to be in AZ taking in a few Beaver games right about now.
OT – Eagles release DeSean Jackson, Kelly rumored (in other articles) to be interested in Brandin Cooks. Cooks would offer similar ability, no headaches, and would cost less.
http://nfl.si.com/2014/03/28/desean-jackson-released-philadelphia-eagles/
Brandin is worth more than “no headaches” on any roster. And his ability to run the ball should make the rumors legit.
I go to most of the footbal games so I don’t hear Wilson a lot, unless it’s part of the post game show, where he usually, though not always, shines. Seems to me baseball is his better sport to report on, which only figures since he played that game professionally. He supplements Jay Reese beautifully, in my opinion, but in an odd way he works better as a complement to Mike Parker, perhaps because having Jim in the booth seems to even out MIke’s performance. For what it’s worth (again noting that I hear Parker far more often on baseball broadcasts than football) I think he’s much better at baseball.
I’ve never listened to football on radio so not sure. But I was talking about baseball yeah. A MLB team should hire him. I just wonder if he doesn’t want a MLB gig. If anyone knows…
I’ve always appreciated Wilson’s analysis of the finer points of both football and baseball. Wilson’s Walkthrough is a feature I try not to miss before any football game.
I know he has taught and coached at the high school level in Vancouver, always assumed he enjoyed the gig he has with OSU as a fun part-time job. Maybe he has kids still at home and is still teaching; makes some sense that the travel and commitment required of a full time broadcaster job may not appeal to him. At least not right now.
This series with Arizona is a chance to regain some momentum, what with their “lackluster” pitching. It looks like it will be their strength against the Beavs strength and I like the Beavs chances so long as Casey doesn’t have to go to the BP too much. Arizona is desperate for a series win, you know they are gonna come out like…..well…cornered wildcats.
2-0 DD 2 run double! Love the road jersey with the orange letttering!
Peterson looking good on D and now a triple, Morrison follows with another triple, 3-0 good guys. And Peterson is supposed to have a tweaked back.
BTW, Ice cut down an attempted steal on a pitch out to end the 4th.
Hendrix an RBI single, 4-0. A couple sloppy outfield plays by the cats this inning.
This might be their best game of the year? Doing just about everything right.
Hendrix a 3B to start the t7, didn’t seem hampered by the hammy.
Anyone have the video link?
PAC12
First real buzz-kill of the night, after a leadoff 3B, and having bases loaded with NO outs the AZ pitcher works his way out without giving up a run. Still 5-0 but could have blown it open.
Wetz starting to tire. Hate seeing to BP this early.
Wetz gets the K ends the 7 still up 5-0
96 pitches for Ben as he finishes the 7th, I’m with you kman, hate to go to the pen but probably should. Picking up a couple runs in the 7th would have been so valuable.
These guys calling the game for PAC 12 are terrible. The dildo that played pro ball is just that.
9-0 in the ninth
11-0 good guys going to b9.
And, ucks drop TWO tonight!
I didn’t get a chance to watch but looking at the box score it was a good night for the Beavs on most counts, the exception being the pen again. 18 hits with Hendrix 4-5 with 4 runs scored, Davis 4-6 with 5 RBI and Wetzler with 7 and a third giving up only 3 hits and lowering his PAC-12 leading ERA.
bullpen continues to worry, except SS. Dylan Davis bat coming alive now which bodes well for Beavs and look out rest of PAC 12 foes. Maybe the ASU series WAS the wakeup we needed. Let’s see what happens this weekend before saying “all is well”.
I agree. The BP is a major concern, they are struggling to get batters out. I am surprised they have what we think is good talent, but have not translated to the pen. At first I thought it was more due tonthem getting their feet wet, but it seems like they still have not made the strides forward. It remains the one big question mark on this teams ability to ale a deep run. Even Schultz who has been the best in the back end has been inconsistent at best. If they can seal that whole up watch out.
Moore gives up 2run double, and Yeskie comes out to chew out ice and Moore.
0-2 after one. It’s on pac12 network
Moore has been up in the zone, and been hit. Defense kicked it around.
Still 0-2 after 2.
Down 6 now.
Beavs getting creamed 6-0. Looks like they’ll have to hope for 2 of 3.
If baseball falters, too, things are going to get noisy.
This Arizona pitcher is throwing junk, yet the Beavs can’t hit him. Over-swinging instead of just punching the ball around.
Pat Casey talking out of the side of his mouth grinding his teeth the whole time was not happy about Moore’s effort getting his pitches up. Then he mentioned how impatient they have been at plate saying “they want to do it on their own” and not listening to the coaches about waiting for the changeup to enter the zone. Yikes!
saying “they want to do it on their own” and not listening to the coaches about waiting for the changeup to enter the zone.
That’s exactly what I saw, too. This ‘Zona pitcher is garbage. If they just wait and swing with their heads down they’d be monkey hammering him.
Peterson swings at a garbage changeup in the dirt. Beavs only score one after loading the bases.
I had anticipated Moore going through a bit of a sophomore slump, but not like this.
No kidding. Elbow?
Andrew Moore came in with a 1.27 ERA. Not sure how he’s having a sophomore slump. People are overreacting to a bad start
He is supposed to be perfect!
Are these announcers ex-Wildcats or something? God they’re annoying, especially the jock sounding guy.
Eric Byrnes is an Ucla alumni. JB whatever might be associated with AZ but IDK
Leave another 2 to make 11 for the game. 10 hits and a single run. Just didn’t apply much pressure to the zona thrower.
Bad effort today. Need more leadership from the Seniors, can’t allow games to be lost because lack of effort. Some games you need to grind through, I didn’t see that today.
When your leader goes 0-4 and had runners on base in every at bat…
Eden is not the guy you want on the mound with the bases loaded.
Bullpen stinks.
Well I am glad this is almost over
Right now is there a worst BP in the league?
How did Zona win so many basketball games? Their offense looks terrible. #35 has hands of stone.
neb schneebly on the bump?
Jumping on the cats early. 3-0 still in the top of 1
On to the b1, 4-0 good guys.
If you listened to Casey’s pre-game comments you heard two things I’ve never heard Mike Riley say: 1-he plainly said the officiating was poor yesterday, and 2-he took COMPLETE responsibility for the motivation and fire which seemed missing from the Beavs effort yesterday.
Zona brings in the lefty Moffit and he has a 1-2-3 top of the 2nd. Jace looked good in b1.
Fry was looking filthy til that walk.
4-0 bottom of three, good guys up again…
Beavs bats go quiet. Ice with a leadoff single followed by a walk to start the Beaver 4th. Sac bunt gets them in scoring position but the hot hitting Hendrix fans on a ball out of the zone. Peterson fly ball to left and Beavs strand 2 RISP. Still lead 4-0.
Conforto with a bunt single and goes to 2b on E1 to lead off the 5th.
Bad at bat by Keyes but gets the run in
Season long issue for the Beavers continuing today. Beavers struggle to get add on runs. They have their big inning and then the remainder of the game put together extremely poor at-bats. They lose focus consistently and hope the starter can bring the win home. They mail in at-bats with regularity.
Conforto scores on the GIDP for Keyes. Howard singles and the cat lefty leaves the game for some physical problem and Ice with a FC on the first pitch to end the inning. 5-0 Beavs.
Hamilton saves the no-hitter with a good play on the grounder down the line and then gets the E5 on the next play although Keyes with the tag but the ump called him safe. No matter though as the next batter GIDP to end the inning.
Safe? After umpire’s conference? Huh?
The 1b umpire was behind the play and really couldn’t see the tag. I’m sure the conference was “did anybody see the tag?” All say, not sure. So the call remains safe. Still a bad call as replays showed.
No disagreement. In little league with two umps maybe you don’t see it, but with four umpires not one sees the tag? Poor officiating. And as you say, in the end it doesn’t matter.
Morrison finally with a good AB but lines out opposite field. Two out walk for Hendrix and Peterson with opposite field single. Conforto drills one up the middle to score Hendrix. and Davis with a chopper to 3b and they go to 2b but runner beats the throw and another run scores. 7-0 Beavs.
Keyes with a base clearing triple, 9-0.
Keyes with a triple. You know that dude doesn’t look fast as it is, but he losses even more on the base path by staring down the hit. Just run, bro.
LSU gets swept by Florida this weekend. Nike U appears they won’t as they lead tree 6-0 in the 2nd.
Hendrix blast one off the wall to score Hamilton. 10-0 Beavs.
Jace has a no-hitter through 7 but over 100 pitches. Does Casey leave him in?
Depends on how quick he gets through the 8th inning. Really tough call by Casey. I’d probably take him out though. No need to over-do it with a guy who has had arm trouble before
Agree but how do you take him out? Critics would always say well, your no-hitter was against NIU but to do it against the league leading hitters and in that particular ball park, now that’s saying something.
Davis crushes one over the left field fence for the first dinger of the weekend by either club. 11-0.
That ends that question. Loses it against a lefty.
Great job by Jace Fry, no hits through 7! AZ chased him here in the 8th, Scott Schultz preserves shut out.
Beavers win 11-0
SC and Wash tied at 3, 13th inning. Here is the stream, if you want to hear Parker’s competition as an announcer:
