This is clearly an attempt to milk one more year off the contract. Beavs will be HORRIBLE next year based on roster alone. Combine that with a fanbase of one (JackBeav claims he’s the last standing), a coach who (for the tenth time) doesn’t seem to want to be in Corvallis, and an AD who only wants the coach for political and financial reason (the latter of his own doing).
Next year there might be 100 fans per game by mid-season. You might know every single one by name. Now that is family atmosphere!
The whole situation is just comical at this point.
Ed Ray just lost his wife, don’t look to him to toss BDC. BDC, the guy who is quoted that it’s not his job as AD to evaluate coaching assistant selection.
Doesn’t matter. We wouldn’t want BCD making another hire decision.
You don’t win without Money UO was doing no better until Knight became their Sugar Daddy. Look at the facilities and ask yourself if you were 18 and getting chased by the 2 programs where would you go?
For hoops?
I think where the money is being spent is different. There are recruiting games being played at one and not the other. Facility spending has nothing to do with anything. AAU coaches getting “donations” and people like Kenny Payne or Tony Stubblefield getting hired as an assistant mean everything.
Go ask the Pump brothers what they think of either school, and I will tell you what kids are told to think and eventually do think.
So Ralph Miller was a losing coach at OSU???
Will be a regular attendee to women’s ball next year. Will not return to men’s games with CR at the helm! I am sad!!!
I’ll still watch all the games, no matter how painful. You can’t stop me, BDC!
+1
I know.
We’re pathetic.
How shiny can the turd get!
Wax on… Wax off… Wax on… Wax off BDC-san
Talk about a void of leadership. Basically he is going to allow the house to burn to the ground before pulling the fire alarm. The money excuse does not fly as they will probably lose money because of the apathy and frustration of the fan base. The new AD at Minnesota does not pussyfoot around.

That story shows such a contrast to what we see in Corvallis. I especially noticed the quote from the AD in the final paragraph.
“This is a golden opportunity for a coach,” Teague said. “The program has succeeded in the past. We’ve proven we can win. We have unbelievable fan support. It’s a great place to go to school. There are so many intangibles that make this a terrific job that raises those expectations that we should be succeeding at a really high level.”
I honestly don’t see a real similarity.
OSU hasn’t had a successful men’s basketball program in pretty much 25 years and in that time we’ve chewed threw 5 coaches counting CR.
Minnesota has been to the NCAA tournament 7 times since 2001, the WNIT 3 times, and won the WBI once. Seems like they have much more to build on with their recent success.
Calling OSU a “golden opportunity” seems completely wrong. We’re more likely to kill a coaches career than make it. CR is actually the best coach we’ve had in that 25 years and support is now at an all time low. Who would want to come here to coach?
What struck me was the positive outlook.
Beavs HAVE won in the past, it IS a great place to go to school. And it is in a marquee conference. Some of the other stuff doesn’t now apply to OSU, I agree. It’s just that so many downplay the positives and make excuses; I didn’t see that from the Minnesota AD.
Fan support? Just reference WBB and Baseball…….the selling point is fans will support a good product. Heck, aren’t we even told that the fanbase travels well for football?
“We’re more likely to kill a coaches career than make it.” Can’t agree with that; look at Casey and Rueck, don’t they indicate that a GOOD coach can make a career in Corvallis?
Like OOB says, OSU is in fact a golden opportunity for someone who CAN coach.
The trick is to hire that someone, rather than a CR. BDC needs to contract a good coach-hiring consultant….because CR isnt likely to do better next year. Have it all scouted out.
Yup. If you have low expectations you will surely achieve them.
Not even.
Think football and 1A opponents.
Sorry… *1AA
I have it on good authority that Coach Rob will be retained until the 2016 presidential election. Since Bobby D will sign another five year extension in that same year, we will need to hire the brother-in-law of the next president… because that just makes sense.
So in November of 2016 we will hire Steve Masiello. Apparently it says on his resume that he is the next first bro-in-law.
Nope. Roger Clinton.
Does he have a resume… um… flexible enough to be the bro-in-law of anyone?
And I guess the kicker is that Coach Rob is the best coach we’ve had at OSU in over a generation… in every facet.
That’s gonna make me cry now.
How can Ed Ray give BDC an extension in 2016? BDC regularly signs coaches to contracts without a buyout clause. Its terrible business. I will be massively disappointed if BDC stays after 2016. Not to mention the elephant in the room of his chronic illness. At some point (has it already come?) he won’t be able to dedicate the hours to the job that other ADs can.
So if he’s only operating at 80% we should only give him a four year extension?
fuck bdc
when the program falls apart next season I don’t want to hear one fucking word about how hard the coaching search is. Craig should have been gone last year.
“Money over everything.”

Why wouldn’t people take the job last time? It is a great school in many academic areas. My on finished Graduate school there in December. It doesn’t have the support for Athletics that most of PAC-12 schools have,
JJ ran the program into the dirt. A new coach would have at least liked to discharge most of the roster and start over. But we were so in the dirt with our APR that we had to keep everyone and tell our new coach he had to make it work.
And that’s with a normal talent level. The talent on hand when CR took over was D2 stuff except for maybe Seth and Roo. It would be like me giving you a lump of clay and telling you to make a diamond out of it.
I’d have taken the 4 million & left the complainers who aren’t about to donate enough to improve things.
The coach doesnt choose to leave WITH his contracted future pay. He gets it if he is fired. He wasnt fired. And donating money has no bearing on the validity of a complaint. So your statement makes no sense whatsoever.
LOL Odds are OSU can’t afford to fire anyone because it’s not loaded with money. UO pushed Bellotti out because they were flush with money. Why would any coach just leave with nothing?
Leave with nothing?? So we havent yet paid him for the 6 yrs?? Damn, that IS stingy on our part.
And as to “affording” firing him, there is more to it than just the money. CR is likely to do worse next year, and at the end there wont be ANY basketball fans/attendance, putting the program in an even bigger hole. Can they afford that?
Wait till players get paid for their name gear. Small, more rural schools will be in even bigger trouble getting top recruits.
