  1. need to win 2 to stay on track for a regional invite as 3 or 4 seed. A sweep will put the beavs back in contention to host a regional.

    • currently with an RPI near 50 even with a sweep this team has little chance of hosting a regional. Are you friggin serious? This isn’t the ACC or SEC

  2. Gary god damn Payton better not have god damn done that to that woman.

Stories can get twisted all around and getting the truth can be like trying to shove a wet noodle up a wildcat’s ass. He probably settle out of court the woman hired superwoman as her lawyer.

  3. Hamilton, in the 9 hole, with a 2 out dinger. 1-0 good guys. In an example of letting a bad pitch beat you twice, the SC pitcher looked dejected at throwing a hanging curve for the HR and immediately gives up a single to Hendrix. Donahue can’t deliver a hit and the inning ends.

  4. Pomeroy slow to come cover the plate on a WP and then slow to track the runner who makes it from first to third. Pomeroy stil a WIP.
Flemer on, but 7-1 is not a mountain these young Beavs are ready to climb. Prove me wrong, please!

  5. Live from Casa de bonehead.

    This just happened.

Sitting on the couch in the den watching Ducks v Huskies on the big set. Have Beavs v Trojans livefeed on the mac.

Wife passing through the room stops….”seriously?”

    PBH….”what?”

  6. Fine ending to the game. Beavs load the bases with nobody out and a little used thrower on the mound for usc and they don’t score. Final 11-3.

    • I hope it doesn’t come back to bite them in the ass as it pertains to the post season. They know they should have swept the Ducks, but they played some of the worst baseball at the most crucial moments that I’ve seen from a Pat Casey team. This is one of those seasons where as a fan you still want them to make the tourney, but you realize they aren’t going anywhere. I have to look at it as something to build for next season and leave it at that.

  7. Drew, with help from Lund’s pickoff, put ’em down 1-2-3 to finish the t8, could be a big factor in that the condom will be sending in the tail end of the order in the ninth.

  8. Parker seems to have missed the insertion of a pinch runner for SC. Dempster running for Oppenhiem, per live stats. When hail delay is over can Tweedt finish off the 2-2 count to get the second out?

    • I said several weeks back that I would start him over Ice. Not much drop off defensively and he’s a better hitter. But that’s just my worthless 2 pesos

      • I’ve been disappointed that, and can’t understand why Casey hasn’t played Lund in at least one game each series. I’ll be interested to see who catches tomorrow’s game. As renowned as Casey is, I do sometimes wonder at his choices. Billy King is getting all the cheers for hitting the winning run but Lund put the team in the position of King being able to do so.

        • Lund had a helluva game and him throwing out the USC runner attempting to steal 2nd in the 9th was the play of the game imo.

  9. ASU loses at home to Tennessee Tech. Say Whaaaaaaaat????

FUCLA buries Stanford 10-0, Ducks even up their series with UW, Cal over UA again. Beavs still alone in 5th. I’m not sure this team is any better than 4th in the conference this season. Even if they manage to win the series with USC tomorrow

    • Sometimes a 6th place team from the Pac wins the national title. Not saying it will happen but we play in the best league in the country. We are a young team and I hope we are just in a slump offensively and we break out of it in late may – early June and make a run that can carry over to next year when we will be stacked and ready for a national title run.

      • I’d like to agree with you but right now I’m not seeing it from this team. Yes, there’s still just over a month left before regionals start. I still see this team making a regional. But right now, I’m not seeing anything that makes me believe they can advance beyond a regional. Especially on the road cause they aren’t going to be hosting anything. Reality blows. A national title run is laughable right now.

        • I don’t think Fred is too far off base in his HOPE that the Beavs break out of their slump soon and his point about the strength of the PAC. However, I don’t think the Beavs can afford to wait till late May to do so.

The final game vs SC could turn out to be a turning point, one way or the other. A victory should (make that “might’, with this young team) be the start of a very good streak. A loss means we all keep hoping the team doesn’t fall out of consideration for the post season. Most “experts” I read still have the Beavs a 3 seed in a regional, a win today will finally give me reason to agree.

As for a national title run…….I don’t think Fred, myself, or anyone here has plans for Omaha……this year.

        • Heres two facts that springs hope eternal, 1. Moore is a great pitcher, and 2. Rausmusen has a perfect game this year. If those guys bring their A games into post season, then fun things can happen. Just making the regionals is challenge enough for now.

          • Eckert pitched a great game last weekend against Arizona. The potential for the two starters not named Moore is great. However with such a putrid bullpen, I am not as optimistic as you

  10. Dane Lund in the starting lineup again today. Billy King as DH. No Clark again. Hopefully PC finally gave up on him.

  11. Found out Oregon State is purposefully degrading the streaming experience with their choice to have the camera behind home plate looking through a net. Apparently BDC thought the streaming experience was too good. Amazing setting, cool behind plate logos on the backstop wall and great views of a full stadium with happy fans and Waldo Hall were just too premium of a streaming experience.

Really hate the decision as I think it wastes our premier setting and great Western ballpark. Games were still usually sellouts and seeing those great views had to make many long term Beaver baseball fans. I will catch a few innings of today’s game but I find it hard to sit through much more than that when I realize how much better streams used to be.

Most of the stunning beauty of the setting we are being forced to miss because the AD thinks it might sell a few more seats. This setting was one of the things that made it very easy for someone to like Oregon State more than Oregon. One needlessly lost weapon in that battle for the hearts of Oregonians and the younger generation.

      • Even if they put the camera back out there and cut to the shot between innings or outs it would help. I miss seeing that view. Rather have some or a little of it then none.

  12. Morrision’s second error of the game almost cost them as usc loads the bases and Eckert behind 3-0 but gets to 3-2 before getting the groundout.

    • The Jim Wilson hex lives on. Can’t count the poor throws he has made since Wilson mentioned how reliable his arm is several weeks ago.

  13. Harrison strikes out, Morrison doesn’t go from 2nd, Lund does from first on 3-2 pitch. More epic baserunning fail. 2-0 Beavs after 3 innings

  14. Hamilton starts the disaster by letting the ball get by him. Scored a hit should’ve been E5. Usc takes the lead and still two on one out

  15. Safety squeeze brings in the condoms 3rd run; I’d have liked to see Travis bare hand that, his gloved flip to Lund looked pretty casual.

  16. Eckert has had some okay starts this year against ASU and Arizona and Wazzu, but 2 of his last 3 starts now have been pretty awful. Beavers don’t really have any pitching beyond Moore and Rasmussen.

  17. Nice catch in right by Cary but would’ve been disappointed if he wouldn’t have come up with it. Kinda like Max Gordon, made a great catch on a nearly routine play

  18. Damn! Morrison nearly put himself in position to get out #13 for Heimlich. Would have been a highlight play, but looked possible.
    1 on 1 out t8.

  19. Tweedt brought in to match up with SC PH and get 5 outs. Not an easy decision since Heimlich was doing the job. Even at that, Heimlich certainly wasn’t overpowering so probably the right decision. Never comforting though with this pen.

  20. Two singles to right puts runners at the corners with no out and that “other Hawaiian” coming up. Step on their throats!

  21. Tweedt can’t get anyone out in the 9th. a run in already and runners at first and third, 9-5 Beavs. Hickey coming in to pitch

  22. I thought AndersenEra made some good points above about the camera angle for the stream. Especially having shots from the outfield at least during a break in the action or other situations where no scouting advantage would go to the opposition. There is a lot OSU marketing is missing out on by shooting from behind the plate.

That said, I’m glad I watched as much of this game as chores would allow, net and all. These kids are far, far from being a top ten caliber team right now and they present plenty of frustrations but, unlike some here, the net isn’t enough to keep me away. Just my .02.

    • I went to Sunday’s game, and as I was taking pictures, it was clear to me that the problem with the net is the location of the camera in the press box, far from the net. From my seat 2nd row from top to the right of the press box, with a telephoto lens, the net was an obstruction unless I was wide open with no depth of field – a pain for taking pictures. Plus, the net is enough of an obstruction at that distance to fool the auto focus. I went down to the area behind the plate for the 6th and part of the 7th innings, and being closer to the net made it practically disappear – except, obviously, with a wider-angle lens. Focusing was much easier with the lens close to the netting. I noticed that the cameras on the dugouts were in front of the netting – maybe because they don’t zoom in as much and the netting would be worse?

Talking with one of the press box guys, it seems that TV networks have never liked the net, either, but the place was not built with any consideration for camera angles. The cameras on the dugouts used to be on scaffolding platforms on the concourse, but when the nets were extended down the sides (I think after that girl got beaned by a foul a few years ago), they had to move them because the nets looked even worse than the press box angle – plus they were in the way on the concourse.

Next time they remodel the park, they should make it TV-friendly. Isn’t that why they put in the lights when PC first arrived?

  23. In-conference statistics for 2015 OSU Baseball current as of tonight, Apr 26, 2015: http://www.osubeavers.com/pdf9/3488578.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=30800

Note that KJ Harrison’s batting stats for in-conference play are becoming surprisingly ugly:

Batting avg = .200 (13 hits in 65 official at bats)
    Slugging % = .277 (only 3 extra base hits — 2 doubles and 1 HR)
    On Base % = .308
    RBIs = 12
Strikeouts: 26 (twice as many strikeouts as hits; striking out 40% of the time, getting a hit 20% of the time)

Forget the Mendoza line. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mendoza_Line KJ Harrison is approaching the Gabe Clark line (take a look at Gabe Clark’s PAC-12 batting statistics — they are only slightly worse than KJ Harrison’s stats at this point in time).

KJ Harrison is too talented a hitter to be anywhere near Gabe Clark (statistically speaking). I don’t know what the OSU coaches are doing to get KJ Harrison going. Whatever it is, it isn’t working, and they need to try something different.

      • hey at least we lost Casper from last year he had to be one of the worst; on the other hand his name made it easy to call him out in the comments sections of blogs and what not so he had that going for him

  24. Beat a top 10 team and still no respect from espn. But we’ll take it!

As my nephew says hells yeah! Do young people even know about the Brady bunch anymore?

  25. question for the group. Not that we have any say but would anyone be opposed to giving Sam Tweedt a shot at the Sunday starter and moving Eckert to the weekday game starter? Pros? Cons? Not enough of a size sample from Tweedt?

    • I think you’re reading off the overall records. I would just project the loss column in the conference records to get something similar.

    • Next 3 series are against the 3 bottom teams, and then finnish reg season at home vs cal. Opportunities for moving up are certainly available. Beating sc was nice. Very nice. Starting pitching continues to recieve a lot of pressure until bullpen can figure out something, anything.

  26. Lund, finally healthy after dealing with back issues much of the season, got his opportunity in part because regular catcher Logan Ice is hitting only .238.

But his first back-to-back starts of the season came against the mighty Trojans, and Lund — now hitting a team-high .371 in 35 at-bats — made the most of them.

    http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/258223-129507-little-guy-lund-comes-up-big-for-beavers-in-wins-over-trojans

I’ll say it again, Lund should be starting over Ice.

  27. happened to see this tweet just now from OSU softball.

” Arriola makes a nice leaping play for the 2nd out of the inning. #Gobeavs”

    Thats an unfortunate last name..

  28. Who tf is Tre’Shann Stone lmao. 2017? So is he a JC guy? I see he’s from Milwaukie but I have never heard of the kid. Looks like he graduated from HS in 2014 so a lotta things not even adding up, but oh well. Plus 2017 really? That’s like 2 whole seasons before he even suits up.

    I’m so confused.

    • hard to find much info. played at milwaukie, then transferred to parkrose. osaa found him ineligible after transfer because he wasnt living with his bio parents. not sure if 2017 means he’s going Juco for 2 years and then plans to come to OSU or if it was just a typo? Hopefully more info will start to come out to fill in the gaps.

      • IMO it’s probably a Twitter joke. One of my best friends coached him and he has major attitude problems, fights with teammates, coaches, etc… At 6’1″ to succeed you need to be either athletic/super talented or heady and fundamentally sound which I don’t think he’s either (unless he’s really grown up in the last couple years.) Just doesn’t make sense that Tinkle would be aiming that low and extending a scholarship to an unknown kid that isn’t even playing JC 2 years after graduation, especially coming off of the stellar 2015 class.

Maybe he’s chosen to take his talents to Corvallis to try and walk on? I could be wrong and he could have really matured. Seems unlikely it’s a schollie offer though.

        • Machado is saying he doesn’t even have an offer from OSU, although they have been in contact with him in the past. So sounds like he’s just putting that out there on his own accord, with nothing official in the works. Strange thing for the kid to put that out there.

  29. I don’t know how many of you fellow ol’ varmints follow Blazers but currently stuck in Moda traffic. Portland may not win another one this year, but good to see these boys get one at home.

If they can keep this bunch in tact next season and healthy, they might have something. Probably should cut some lazy fat like Kaman, Blake, Afflalo, etc. All the non-hackers.

    • I know he had 13 pts and 13 rebounds tonight but how in the fuck is Myers Leonard even on an NBA roster? I’d say Portland caught a break. They don’t win that game if Mike Conley plays. Tough to beat a team 8 straight times. This series is over because Memphis is the better team. Injuries aside. It’s just a matter of how many games it’s going to take. I’ll say 5. Nice to see Lillard have a good game after 3 awful ones.

    • on the flip side espn is probably bored since they can’t watch Lebronda for another few days after the Bucks tripped the Bulls. I’m sure there will be a story in the morning on how hot or cold his coffee was/is

    • Funny, he tried to fake the test and the urine he used was too diluted to be tested, resulting in the fail. Wonder if punishment would have been less severe with a simple “dirty” test, vs trying and failing to fool the testers with a watery sample? A full year of pay is alot to give up for some weed, if that’s what he was trying to hide.

      • I’ve actually taken 2 or 3 pre-employment drug screenings and one of them I had to retake twice as they said my urine was too diluted. They asked what I was doing and I stated I had to drive an hour to get here and didn’t want to waste time so I was pounding gatorade to make sure I had to go. They said that’s probably why since it was just going right thru me. No harm or intent on my part to fool the screening. Finally on the 3rd try it was fine and I passed. Granted this was 15 years ago and things may have changed. Not defending that dick just saying I know it’s possible to have a clean sample too diluted to be tested.

        • Yeah, the NFL assumes you are intentionally trying to dilute the sample so they fail you. Likely because players found that was a good way to beat the test in the early days. Otherwise a player could over hydrate and delay until their system is clean.
