  1. Because of the nature of how many guys play, obviously basketball recruiting doesn’t get talked about as much as football recruiting. Sucks that hoops is my favorite sport.

With that said, it still is odd that not much has happened on the recruiting front for 2016. Tinkle is gonna have like 6-7 scholarships to fill, and at least 4 of those are likely going to be freshmen (we don’t hear about JCs until a bit later). Hopefully we hear some early commitments coming in the weeks to follow. If we’re at none heading into the July period I’m gonna have some small concerns.

      • Shit on soccer all you want, they went to the tourney last year and even won their opening round game. The kids work their asses off to represent Oregon State, good for them.

          • Someone doesn’t watch Premier League soccer. World Cup can be a bit stagnant at times, but professional leagues like the Premier League (England), La Liga (Spain), the Bundesliga (Germany) and even Serie A (Italy) are plenty entertaining.

          • Soccor IS boring… I mean, a game where you deliberately dont use your arms or hands…..LOL!

The only reason soccor is popular is that ANYONE can play it. That alone shows how undemanding it is. No real athleticism skill needed, just two legs to run on. And since it is so undemanding, every freakin country in the world thinks their national team could win the “World Cup” Will never give a rats ass about the World Cup.

          • ANYONE can play any particular sport at a youth or other non-professional level. It’s not an aspect that’s reserved for soccer. Exceptional skill is only required if you want to/are going to play professionally (in any sport).

As for “undemanding”: I don’t see how running up-and-down the field over the course of 90 minutes at a more or less consistent rate, is any less “undemanding” than running a no-huddle offense in football. You need to have endurance in both cases, which is a part of having athleticism. Long-distance runners are some of the most athletic people in the world. And I guess you don’t think they’re athletic since all they have to do is run, right?

          • I’m not disagreeing soccer players aren’t athletes. Same as cross country. I find no enjoyment out of basically watching people run with zero or minimal scoring. That’s why most people that don’t like those sports find it boring. If I wanted to watch people run I could do that from the park, my front porch or watch an episode of cops. At least with cops there is the jailarity factor.

          • Those who find certain sports boring, typically haven’t played them or do not understand the rules and tactics. I’m a baseball and soccer guy — one is laid back and all about stats/numbers, and the other has hardly any stats. Try going to a soccer game in Europe, then you may be able to relate a bit. Have you played organized soccer before? If you have, for how long? I really dont care if you like soccer or not, just curious, I see a lot of soccer haters out there, almost like it will take over one of their beloved sports in popularity at some point….

          • I think sports we aren’t familiar with and don’t understand are boring to us. Just think about how many people think football is boring, and really they have a point.

According to a Wall Street Journal study of four recent broadcasts, and similar estimates by researchers, the average amount of time the ball is in play on the field during an NFL game is about 11 minutes.

In other words, if you tally up everything that happens between the time the ball is snapped and the play is whistled dead by the officials, there’s barely enough time to prepare a hard-boiled egg. In fact, the average telecast devotes 56% more time to showing replays.

            http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/football-games-have-11-minutes-of-action-011810

          • football, baseball and basketball have more scoring. Fact. Thus, less of a bore factor. I’m plenty familiar with soccer and don’t even find it remotely interesting

  2. AT&T DirecTv merger has passed inititial review with gov’t saying they are likely to recommend approval. May try to get some committment for rural access from AT&T as part of terms but otherwise initial thoughts are that final approval should come sometime in July.

Let’s hope Larry Scott is tight enough with AT&T to secure them putting the Pac-12 Network on DirecTv before the first week of fall football. Alot of times they get these deals to air a network done literally only days or hours ahead of the first weekend of Pac-12 football.

  3. Something I hadn’t heard before, is it too soon to start thinking of Andrew Moore staying around for next season?
    Per Kendall Rogers in D1,

“most people with the Beavers feel like Andrew Moore is a good bet to come back next season. Moore is a guy who can touch 90 at times, but his other stuff is just OK. He’s a perfect example of someone who could benefit from four years in college baseball, as opposed to just three.

    • I know AM is having a pretty decent season but him coming back for his senior season would mean losing any financial leverage after being drafted. Personally I’d rather he be back next year but if he decides to use that leverage and sign after his junior year I wouldn’t blame him one bit.

      • I certainly wouldn’t blame him either. Wonder about the reliability of Roger’s source.

Oh well, I’m sure AM will have competent counsel in dealing with MLB. Makes sense to have a good negotiator at your side, right?

  4. Bummer about Hunt. This condition was not easy to anticipate or predict. I had a similar condition resulting in a broken vertebrae in football. At least his education is paid for.

    • all i know is he’s a basketball player and is friends with jay irvine. dont have time to get more info rihht now though

        • Sounds like Wallace is interested in the hoops program but thats about it. he’s only a sophomore and doesnt sound like he’s even connectwd with coaches yet, so i wouldnt read much into that.

there was another hoops offer tonight though, for a ncal pg named Damari Milstead. He looks like he could be a solid player.

busy day recruiting wise on the twitter feed. there’s so much going on its hard to keep up.

i see that the coaches have taken interested in harris ross (former academic casualty) and one of his Juco teammates, Malcolm Hale. Could be worth keeping an eye on.

  5. i read some of the shit about soccer and I will say one thing, at the youth level i would rather watch my 12 year old play a game that’s over in 70 fucking minutes with a 5 minute halftime then watch my 8 year old play 2 hours of excruciating Little League baseball. Soccer is get in, get out…go home! Watching youth baseball is just this side of a root canal!

    • I’ve known people that said having a vasectomy was no big deal. Probably depends on the dick doc but mine hurt like hell all the way into my stomach when dick doc put those roach clips or whatever they’re called on. Yikes. But my point being, as painful as my vasectomy was, I find watching soccer even more painful. I couldn’t even get enthused playing it when younger. Just a boring dumb sport imo. I understand there are folks who love it. I get it. I like auto racing and many people find that boring as shit. But I enjoy it for the chess match of engineering rather than going in circles. If everybody was the same, we’d have nobody to make fun of.

  6. Saw a Bleacher Report mock draft today that had Mannion going in the 3rd RD to the Jets…in one hand he couldn’t be worse than Geno Smith. In the other…that poor, poor bastard if that happens

  7. ASU and Cal beat up on each other this weekend; Beavs with a real opportunity to move up in the league standings. Third place (or a piece of it) well within reach.

Anxious to see what lineup Casey trots out……….Ice/Lund, Clark? Cary? Gretler?
Really anxious to see if KJ can get going.
    Go Beavs!……One at a Time!!

And just 3 hours till, “Play Ball!”………on PAC12 net.

    • Walks Meggs on a 11 pitch AB then Rei crushes a 2-0 pitch. Beavs have 8 LOB. Huskies only two hits and Beavs with 8 but couldn’t come through even though they had the bases loaded with one out in b2b innings. Their two runs came on an error with the sacks juiced.

  8. Shut down the Huskies! I was looking at D1 Baseball, it irritates me that the Beavs aren’t in the Top 25 after the SC series win, every shit SEC makes it in. No respect for the P-12 this year.

    • Speaking of which, this is a long term project that I sincerely hope to see the light of day in the near future: http://mime.oregonstate.edu/feature/graf-hall-gets-ready-robotics-hub

Right now, Graf is on my shit list along with Snell as far as buildings that sorely need some help. Graf needs much better ventilation and preferably would be gutted for this resource. Snell is a death trap and pretty much useless outside of counseling services and a few admin offices. Most of it is in the brand new Student Experience Center.

This kind of facility would give OSU one of the most attractive robotics undergrad and grad programs in the nation. We already attract brilliant professors in MIME, but this would really bring in the big guns.

    • Oregon State is a 2 seed in projections right now. 37th in RPI. Unless they lose both series against Utah and Stanford I don’t see them missing the postseason after getting a huge series win against USC.

      • Yeah, I thought the linked article was out of step w/regard to the Beavs.
Now, for me the big question is momentum and offensive production. Easy to imagine (hope for) KJ to return to earlier form and for someone like King, Cary, et al to step up.
Notwithstanding the recent pen performances, I think pitching and O are unlikely to carry our Beavs to an Omaha trip, but that’s why the games are played, right?

  9. Rasmussen returns the favor, a 2 run dinger to Rei and then a double to the base of the wall in left center.

  10. Anyone know of a good home repair contractor? Potential big job, prefer general worker who can do it all.

A first team all Corvallis area prospect. Would like to be cash and will provide free lunch. Thanks, CR

  11. Rasmussen chased with one out one one in the 5th. Huskies have 9 hits and the difference in the game is an unearned run the Beavs collected in the 3rd

    • the bats have not done anything since the 1st so there is that too to makes us all feel that much better; feels like the 2nd game of the Ducks series

  12. We lose about 150 points of batting average with Gretler in the line up instead of Morrison.

But Mildenberg not much better as a PH for Gretler and fans on 3 pitches.

  13. This ones on me boys. Up camping and turned on the satellite it was 6-2, UW out scored the Beavs 6-0 from that point on. 20 lashes for Whiskey tonight

  14. angry and Beaverkman, the twitter feed is all you this weekend through monday evening. i’m on the road and the “free wifi” at my hotel is beyond shitty. might be good to unplug for a few days anyway

    • I hope he has a long career, makes a ton of money, gives back to the football team, and helps promote OSU football. He is a great kid.

    • Looks like Nelson maybe went a round earlier than the prognosticators thought. Is Obum really going to get drafted?

        • It’s really sad that when he was grey shirting we were saying he should be a DE and not a WR. To make it worse, it was a position of need as well.

But, as we hear so often, we’re not paid millions of dollars. Therefore, we don’t know as much as the coaches do about the very players they choose to have on the team.

He might be drafted after the sixth round. More than likely he’ll be a camp invite as an UFA. And with half a season on a scout team and some real coaching he will probably be moved onto the roster for at least his athleticism and value on ST. He could have a decent five to ten year career barring injury. And that’s not his full upside. But I don’t count on many football players to realize their upper limits.

        • Defensive End I’m assuming, his WR ship sailed long ago…The Oregonian gave him a lot of copy with his blog. Just wondering what was fiction or fact. He seemed to think he was going to get drafted. I think NFL coaching could do a lot for him.

      • Nelson was way undervalued. The knock I hear from the experts is that he’s short and can’t cover big bodies. I don’t know what tape they were watching. The only times he looked bad was when he bit on the under and had no help over the top. The Chiefs took Peters in the first round, and I predict he will be traded away once they figure out Nelson is the better player.

I have zero clue why Peters was picked in the first btw. Even if he wasn’t a major head case and dumb as a rock, he’s not a first round talent. He’s Pacman Jones without the talent.

    • It’s interesting that:
      1. The Saints value Grayson over Mannion.
      2. Jeff Fisher is running away from spread QBs as fast as he can.
      3. The Jets keep picking spread QBs… after flopping on pro-set QBs… maybe it’s the Jets.
      4. Hundley is rated by the experts higher than the three QBs who go before him, yet NFL teams don’t buy the experts.
      5. All I see for QBs left on the board are Halliday and then maybe Hundley.
      6. Mannion will get to hold a clipboard in his home state after this coming season.

  15. I’m excited about the Jet’s draft. Petty is the best QB in the draft, and they get him in the 4th round.

Mannion, Mariotta, and Hundley are all busts, imo.

Greyson is an interesting QB. He could be pretty good.

    • One of the Arena Football coaches here in Portland said that Darron Thomas had awful footwork (he still can’t make it as the starter), wasn’t he with Kelly and Helfrich for a couple of years? Did they just not bother to coach him because footwork was not needed in their offense? But they decided to coach Mariotta or I guess natural talent took over? Their college careers were similiar. Is there a spread QB tearing it up consistently in the NFL? Why would one do it in the future?

      • Looks to me like two coaches that know their job, which is to win college football games. They recruit who they can recruit, then use their scheme to win games. Fuck the NFL. Wasn’t Thomas a sophomore when they went to the title game? Now, years later he can’t even start in an arena league. That’s actually a testament to their scheme and how effective it is at the college level.

        • Oregon has a lot of good players in the pros, just not QBs.

I’m not sure about his footwork, Mckalk, but his arm is a noodle.

          • Yeah Mariota is another Manziel or Tebow. Great athlete, but had the success he had due to the scheme allowing him to run around and make easy throws or sprint through gaping holes. His usefulness as an NFL QB will be limited.

          • His arm is a noodle because of the footwork required in that system. He actually has a decent arm when he loads up.

The problem is that he never loads up. He has a pretty motion and a quick release. But he sacrifices power with that method. And then he moves his feet according to where his next “read” should be. If you watched him go through his processions his first couple years, you would see him staring at his first “read” while physically shifting his feet and lower body toward where he was actually going to throw the ball. It was the weirdest thing I’d ever seen. But the system is predicated on misdirection. And DBs are looking at the head, not the feet.

He got better at waiting on the shift this last year. But it was still obviously choreographed.

He has a ton to learn in order to be even moderately efficient in the NFL. He might show well for the first half of his rookie year. But once teams have tape on him against real defenses he’s going to need to magically gain some sense of the pocket, throw it into coverage and not try to throw across the middle when he scrambles. Those last two factors are key. He made so many throws this last year which would have just been picks on the NFL level.

The other Ducks who went early:
Armstead doesn’t look like he really likes football all that much. He also has one move and really short arms. Grasu is weak and smallish. I do like Fisher. I think the Bengals got a steal with him 53rd overall. And I think he’s better on the left side than their first pick, Ogbuehi. If I’m a coach, I’m thanking any GM who makes those two picks off the bat.

  16. Seems to me Pete Carroll sees good potential in Obum Gwacham as a quick DE to draft him when he did. Had Carroll coached him for 4 years in college instead of Riley I imagine he would have been getting numerous sacks by his junior season and a beast in his senior year. Thanks Nebraska!

    • His athleticism alone makes him a ST value if nothing else. He needs to learn more than the two moves he kinda has at the moment. And he needs to learn to go left every now and then. Right now he looks like a stunt/pass-rush specialist… who is in the game to make that one play. He put on good weight when switched positions. And he can put on more. He could possibly be one of those players who ten years from now everyone talks about as that guy who was underrated versus what his career turned out to be.

But then I gushed and romanticized about the same kid years ago about how he could be a great DE. Been wrong about him before.

      • And the Chiefs made a great pick with Alexander in the fifth. He has a ton of upside if finally coached well.

I’m surprised to see Murphy go to the Hawks in the seventh. Five picks from a losing team? There’s a disconnect there.

        • Totally a steal on Alexander. Surprised he didn’t get a combined invite.

And did anybody know that Ryan Murphy is Marshawn Lynch’s cousin?

          • There was a mention of that back around the time Fred died. I can’t remember which paper wrote it.

            Bricksquad lives on… for now.

  17. Novack looked safe. Beavs get a bad call there. Could have just about iced the series. If Huskies come back it will hinge on that missed call.

    • Total BS. I walked up to the ticket window last night 20 minutes before first pitch. I was turned away because it was ‘sold out.’ Gal said there may be some release of tickets after first pitch. 15 minutes later, OSU ‘released’ its allotment so I got in. Definately not a sell out. It was little league night so they probably gave away 500+ tickets for that and only 100 were used.

I was more impressed with the Dawgs ballpark more than I’m impressed with the Dawgs football stadium.

      • It looked nice… except for the trees beyond the outfield fence. They were close enough that they will need to be cut like power line trees for their whole life. Someone wasn’t thinking about that one.

          • I was watching some live stats, it came across as unearned at the time. I haven’t bothered to check anything official yet.

          • It doesn’t depend on the number of outs? Some of these rules are just weird. What if there was a PB that advanced a runner one base… then the same batter hits a homer?

I think you can see where I’m headed here. At least I hope you can. I can’t.

          • If the run is a result of the passed ball it’s unearned. But in your scenario I’d have to get the rulebook out again. There are a few things that can have an effect on it.

  18. One beaver drafted for each Biley win last year. Same number as the quacks had drafted strangely. More with less, huh?

    • No kidding. Nebraska only had three picked. More with less.

You know the NU wonks are going to use this info as some glory for their new coach, totally disregarding the “more with less” mantra for this one endeavor. Then they’ll go right back to it in order to slam Corvallis and OSU just like Riley and company did for their stay.

Like angry, I’m so pissed at the mentality that mediocre is just fine since we’re just backwater OSU in backwater Corvallis. There is zero room for that garbage in sports, let alone life. When you even start to pretend that you’re the victim of anything, including circumstance, you live what you pretend.

      • Riley also went 5-6 with a Biletnikoff and Groza winner on the same team, I doubt that has ever happened in a season. Too late for the lazy Oregon media, but a theme of Riley and staff squandering talent while at Corvallis would have been a nice story line to see once in a while. Also, the slow starts year after year. Instead they became like a cute joke for the program. Oh, Riley there he goes again, how cute…the team is 2-3 again, but he will figure it out.

I always believed that once scholarship limits were put into place, it did create a little more parity. Better players looking to play now at different places rather than be stacked in Lincoln, Ann Arbor or Los Angeles. Good players were to be had at most power conference programs. No more huge losing streaks at places like OSU, Northwestern or Kansas St.

        • Why all the slow starts anyway? Most of the players return in any given year so it couldn’t be THAT different each season. It’s not like Riley was running a Calipari one-and-done factory here.

Maybe it was the super-relaxed water balloon training camps? I wonder what he’ll do in Lincoln. Corn cob sword fights? Cornhusking contests?

          I freaking love Nebraska <3

      • Jack, Jack, Jack, don’t you realized there is NO substitute for a first class airport? And the smell of cow manure, what can I say?

I sure hope Lindsay and Goe are enjoying their PDX rug remnant wall coverings as much as I’m appreciating the absence of those two!

    • Tuesday may be key in that argument. We’re really really young. We have an excuse. The Ducks just suck. Losing that series is the only thing killing us right now. If whatever mystery that puts them in any regional discussion becomes reality, then we get to skate… not that we have the maturity to take advantage of it.

  19. Of all people, I ran into Mark Banker at Home Depot here in Corvallis yesterday afternoon. My natural question was “What are you doing here buying mulch?” He said “I live here.” Still has his house and grandkids in town. Visited a bit at the check stand, said things were going well in Nebraska, and he was still in “shock” over the overnight move. Told me the first question he asked Riley when he said they were leaving was, “We’re going where!!??” He’s a pretty funny, personable guy to tell you the truth.

  20. Another reason to stay off Facebook LOL. I wonder if Hemsley knows this guy?

Montana man arrested after ‘liking’ his wanted poster on Facebook
    FOX CT-May 3, 2015
GREAT FALLS, Mont. — A Montana man was arrested after he apparently “liked” his most wanted poster on a Crimestoppers Facebook page.

  21. With a change in coaching, I was also curious about the Reser naming rights; found this from 1999.

“Oregon State University has sold the name to its football stadium in a deal worth up to $12.5 million over 25 years.

The 35,362-seat stadium, formerly known as Parker Stadium, will be renamed Reser Stadium after Beaverton businessman Al Reser.

Reser is giving the OSU athletic department $5 million over 10 years. He has the right to keep his name on the stadium for 15 more years if he agrees before 2003 to give an additional $7.5 million.”

He must have donated another $7.5 million back in 03 to extend an additional 15 years? While I appreciate Al Reser’s contribution and dedication, it’s too bad this contract doesn’t come up sooner to get more cash injected into the athletic dept.

    • Paywall?

I forced myself to Lindsay’s twitter to see if I could find a way to view the article (yeah, a glutton for punishment), much better photo of her there but still the same subject matter.

While there saw this, retweeted from Lamar Hurd, “Uh oh @MEPOSU, looks like @Lindsay_Schnell has moved over to the host seat of Talkin Beavers! And doing a great job!! ”

As I said, glutton for punishment……………………a true Beav fan.

      • Notice how she sneaked (snuck?) the airport in there. I think she reads AB – and writes to irritate said ABs. She does have a SI bully pulpit. Not sure what Talkin Beavers is (are? I’m having grammar issues this morning). Are she and Lamar Hurd an item? heh, heh

      • I didn’t get a paywall. SI.com is usually free so not sure what happened for you.

I couldn’t actually finish the article. I was finishing the sentences before reading them and realized it was all the same bullshit I’ve been reading for years, just with Nebraska in place of Oregon State. Those poor bastards…..

(Do you ever wonder how many Wisconsin and Utah State fans are saying “those poor bastards” about us?)

        • Figured it out, you must not be using the AB approved Ghostery settings. Darn, now we’ll both likely be plagued by incessant Swimsuit Issue ads!

Some of the comments on Lindsay’s blurb over the last few hours appear to come from either: 1) AB’s using new screen names, or 2) sports fans with some common sense.

      • It’ll be a short lived experiment. Pretty tough to be the host of a talk show with a mouth full of cake

      • I can’t stand listening to anything she says. She is my least favorite sports poser personality on the planet. Love my Beavs but her hosting a show and having anything at all to do with Oregon State sports is the worst. I so wish she would leave us free of her thoughts forever. Nothing good will ever come of her covering the Beavs. Andersen atleast called BS on the local media on Day 1 and Schnell seemed to be the type that annoys him as well. Get another hobby Lindsay. Go cover the Evergreen State Gooeyducks or something.

    • Reading this gives me two, ideas, Angry; let me know what you think: (1) we ought to run a contest predicting the outcomes for Nebraska’s games this year. (2), in order to help those poor bastards, this blog ought to offer a weekly digest of analysis that AB himself can send to the blog of his choice in the Nebraska universe, as a sort of collective wisdom from those who know Riley best.

      • There’s not enough content for a weekly event. What I gathered from NU fans on their blogs/forums were these:

        1. Pelini is an ass. Duh! Riley is the polar opposite.
        2. Pelini failed to make halftime adjustments, and they expect the new staff to do so because they have SOOOO much experience. We’ve run the numbers here before. If Riley’s team is losing at the half, Riley’s team will almost surely lose.
        3. They somehow think Riley’s teams perform well in “big” games. I can recall four top ten wins–2XUSC, Cal and ASU. The USC wins were in the face of absolutely pathetic starts to those seasons. They “counted” insofar as they triggered the winning ways for the remainder of the season. But the game that really counted in 2008 was the Civil War. And in 2006 the game that counted was before the USC game (Stanford). We’ve also run through the Riley versus Top 25 numbers ad nauseum. It’s on NU fan to find the truth that bashes that narrative.
        4. They think Riley will forgo his pass-happy ways and throw out our numbers as if they mean something. We’ve run down these numbers as well. Sacks, QB “scrambles” for half a yard, taking knees at the end of halves, and running dives for consecutive three and out series to end games which would otherwise be blowouts account for more than 15% of what they think is a 50/50 split… at best. And even more confusing for them would be to go through the remaining 65/35 pass/run split and try to understand the context and flow of each of those games. The Alamo Bowl would be the best place to start for them. Apparently when you run straight at Alex Okafor, Texas was one of the worst run defenses in the nation. But when your TE runs routes instead of doubling on pass pro against the guy, he becomes some top 10 draft worthy prospect?

It’s all on this blog already. It would be redundant to do it all over again.

    • 2nd time they’ll have played in the Sprint Center against KU in 4 seasons. Good test. Non-conference schedule is looking pretty solid

  22. No Gabe Clark in the lineup again tonight. Sam Tweedt on the bump. Looks like all the other regulars are starting.

  23. Nobach called out on strikes with the bases loaded. Didn’t look like a strike to me. 7-0 Beavs thru 4

  24. Hamilton a Morrison like throw, but Harrison is able to corral it for out #2. Harrison doing a good job at that lately.
Still thinking about Jim Wilson’s remark about Morrison’s accurate throws which preceded several poor throws by him.
7-1 Beavs, on to the b5.

  25. Bout time a duck practically standing on home plate and gets plunked called back to the batters box

  26. The ucks have been f’ed! This certainly eliminates Phil’s boys from post season and casts more doubt on Whoreton’s future.
OTOH, now the talk of Beavs hosting begins to gain credence. I suppose ya gotta believe, but I’m gonna be happy to see them make the post season and will be hoping for a couple rounds before returning home.

    • Idk about hosting. Last I heard the RPI was around 35. With most of the games remaining with teams below them in the standings I highly doubt it will happen. I see the Beavs as a 2 seed right now in a regional somewhere not in the west

      • Cal is 43rd in the RPI. Beavers gotta hope Cal beats USC 2 of 3 next weekend and that will give Cal a boost into at least mid 30’s in RPI and an OSU series win over Cal then would give them enough of a boost on the resume to host for the regionals. Hosting is very much in play. They’ll need some help but it’s definitely a possibility with a strong finish

        • Hosting is not in play. Beavs will be a dangerous #2 seed somewhere. They don’t have enough left in the schedule to reach the top 16 in RPI. Had they won against UCLA or ASU, they’d have a shot. Losses to Oregon were also costly since their RPI is so low.

          • FYI, you don’t have to be in the top 16 to host. The committee has shown that in recent years and west coast/northern teams have more leeway with that. West coast teams with low to mid 20’s in the RPI can host. ASU is 27th and is projected to host and Iowa is 25th and projected to host. So, hosting is still in play if they handle business. Is it likely? No, but I’d put the odds at 15%

  27. Carey has a nice swing and looks like he will be a hell of a player in the future. I expect him to have a jump in play similar to Jeff Hendrix’s. Go Beav’s!

      • Most guys have an adjustment period. I wish PC had stuck with him more earlier in the year.
He seems to be hitting his stride at the right time for the team.

  28. In case anyone still wonders if the “Spoiled Children” moniker is well deserved, note that in dropping last nights game in OT to the Eaters they had both the catcher and head coach booted. Crying about controversial no-strike calls; they’ll both miss time vs Stanford this weekend. Damn, are they tied with Phil’s Children in the obnoxious category??

Kendall Rogers declares the Beavs the big winner in mid-week. And, while not predicting a hosting spot for the Beavs, says, “keep a very close eye on these guys (in that respect)…”

    • I read his latest bracket predictions and I fail to understand why UCSB isn’t one of the 16 host sites. Anyone know why? Do they not have lights or something?

  29. sounds like our fears with Paul Lucas not being eligible might be validated. was kicked off his track team for an unspecified violation of team rules. not a good sign after the rumors of his poor academics earlier in the year.

  30. Is Bernard actually committed to Oregon State? I know he posted on the tweeter about it, but I have yet to see any confirmation elsewhere.

    • he’s been totally quiet about it lately, but i saw his most recent follows of Brennan and Lockette as a good sign that he intends to play football. just not sure if its as a walkon or on scholarship. hoping to find out soon

    • Looks like the Bernard commit tweets were a bit premature. Sounds like he visited campus last weekend to see Yve, and also visited with coaches. He wants to play for the Beavs but is waiting for an offer. Not sure how likely he would be to receive an offer with the depth the Beavs already have at RB. Something to keep an eye on

  31. A sweep by the Beavs this weekend would really shake up the PAC. FUCLA and ASU will beat up on each other while Cal is out of conference and the spoiled children play tree.

A four way tie for 2nd not out of the question, but what are the chances this group pulls off the sweep?? Aren’t Andrew and Drew due for a great series?
    GO BEAVS!

    • I’m anticipating all sorts of logistical problems with trying to fly 2 entire teams of 18-22 year old kids half way around the world for a bowl game that few fans could afford to attend. Does everybody in the PAC and the MAC have a passport already? I can totally see the turnaround time between getting invited to the bowl, and when the bowl is played being too short to get everybody ready to fly.

      • Interesting point. The Pac and MWC will need to get a passport for every football player during or before the season. I suppose the NCAA signs off on this because the bowl game itself is paying all expenses?

        • Rushing a passport through is easy, it just costs double is all. That’s a non issue. The big issue is the chance for us to play South Carolina (as an at large?) in the down under.

          • It’s a 3 week wait for an expedited passport by mail. Bowl selection is going to be the 6th, if they apply for it the next business day they won’t be able to leave the country until the 28th.

You can get it even quicker making an appointment directly with a passport agency, so players could do that, or something.

          • Seriously, the passport stuff is a non issue, just a small extra expense, about a couple nights in the hotel. The big concept was Cocks n Beavs Down Under!

    • I’m half Aussie and I even think this is a terrible idea. Just a money grab. Australians who actually watch the game will laugh as the Colorado Buffs go toe to toe with Fresno St. Just another excuse to drink, as if they need any.

    • Even better is that the bowl game will be played in the middle of summer.

      An old Aussie saying:
We have two different temperatures here. One is hot as hell, and the other is hotter than hell.

  32. Seeing all this talk about ND 4* dual threat qb Everett Golson being granted transfer from ND today. Already graduated so would be eleigible to play his remaining year immediately.

would be a nice answer to our qb position next year, but doubt he comes here. I saw that keegan andersen followed him immediately after the news came out.

probably will end up at florida though. coach mclwain tweeted out “chomp chomp” right after the news broke.

    • I agree with the twitter’s: he’d be a good fit, but doubt he transfers to OSU. I wouldn’t rule it out, though…he’d definitely play immediately and be guaranteed the job. I doubt that’s true at any of the other schools.

    • and after i posted this, keegan andersen has stopped following him. probably a pipe dream but definitely a good fit next year at Oregon State. Would play immediately. Gets to visit michigan on national tv. scheme is right….etc…

  33. Far West Classic officially back next season. Beavers playing Cal State Fullerton and Tulsa at the Moda Center. Feels like OSU playing Kansas in Kansas City next season will have Kansas returning a trip with playing at the Far West Classic in 2016 as the tournament gets bigger names after this year

    • At this point these “Riley in Lincoln” articles are blah, blah, and more blah. I’ve come to the conclusion, he’s not a very interesting man or coach. Guess what, you’ve left Corvallis twice now, you don’t get to keep your house…I’m selling it for you. Don’t let the Willamette Valley hit you in the ass on your way back to LIncoln.

    • “We have always have said I just took a new job,” Riley says. “We’re not going to lose our connections to Corvallis. We’ve spent too much of our lives there. We’re not going to lose that. We want to keep our options open.”

We are going to see this dope being interviewed, during games, as a fan in a few years.

      • Seriously, I think “the dope” thinks that if things don’t work out in Lincoln for him and for Andersen in Corvallis, he’s coming back for a third round when he’s around 65 and he can ride off into the sunset as the Joe Pa of the West.

  34. If Oregon State landed Everett Golson I have zero doubt every game will be a sellout this fall. I am a huge Seth Collins fan too but don’t think it would hurt him to learn a few things from a seasoned and talented veteran. Regardless, the energy on Saturday’s will be electric this year. Reser going to be rocking much closer to Erickson’s stellar season than we have seen since with Collins and/or Golson. Program would get double to triple the hype heading into fall camp and into the season if Andersen landed Golson. Seth Collins would have a very worthy sparring partner that would only make him better too.

  35. Golson ain’t coming to Oregon State man lol. Give us two years and a Civil War win and landing heavy hitters will become much more real. Too much uncertainty in the air, that should be solved when a few games are played this year. I’d expect a few recruits to look at us this year and be like “OSU is looking great”.

I came in here to say (and I will repeat it in the Utah thread) that our non-con is looking decent.

    vs. Kansas in Kansas City
@ Mississippi State (which should be improved with Howland as coach and they picked up a 5* recruit)
    vs. Tulsa in Portland
vs. Cal St Fullerton in Portland
vs. Quinnipiac in Corvallis (if it’s a 2 for 1 which I believe was the case. Also we should play at like 10 PM EST just to repay them for that 10 AM PST start this past year)

Not expecting any huge home games, maybe a cupcake or two. I would love to play Portland on a consistent basis, possibly get a Gonzaga game in the future. But who doesn’t want a piece of the Zags these days. Boise State and Idaho could get the work too.

Ideally, I’d like to see 4-5 high major conference (includes A-10, Big East) squads on the schedule every year, with at least one of them at home. Adding a Georgia Tech/Virginia Tech/Miami and St Johns/Seton Hall would be legit.

  36. Golson is unlikely, but it’s probably his best opportunity with regard to guaranteed playing time. We know nothing about the dude. Maybe he doesn’t want to go home to SC. I mean he went to Notre Dame, which isn’t exactly a day trip.

People had Gary Andersen to OSU at 0%, yet in retrospect it was 100%. I’d say Golson is like 15-20% right now. It also depends if Andersen thinks he’s a fit in all the aspects he looks for.
