          • And you degenerates wonder why Angry is slow to post a new thread? heh, heh.

So, Whiskey is on record calling for a sweep vs Utah, any other optimists out there? Me, I’m hoping for a sweep but expecting 2/3.
            GO BEAVS! Go Cary,………et al.

          • Well it’s actually because we opened a homemade soap store, so I was working on that storefront. But also nothing Beaver related was interesting to me. I know it’s weird that I’d have an obsession with making soap, but I do. It’s a fascinating blend of science and art, which are my two passions.

          • It’s online.

If anyone is interested in artisan soaps shoot me an email. People should know that store bought soap (like zest, dove, etc) are more like detergents since the glycerin is removed from them. There’s a real benefit to good soap, and even though the price is higher, the bars are hard and last longer due to various factors I won’t bore you with. Consider this a public service announcement even if you buy the soap somewhere else.

          • Email me, Whiskey.

It’s behind a password/private for now because we’re only selling to people we know as we test things out, but I’d consider AB people I sort of know.

          • I’ve thought about it, but unfortunately I am allergic to something in beer (probably hops). BUT, it is possible to make beer soap, and I am working on a recipe for that, actually.

Beer makes my lips swell and my stomach churn for hours, sometimes even a day or so. It’s so weird. It always makes me the most unpopular guy at the party, and that experience has served me well here at AB!

          • I also developed an allergy to most types of alcohol (some worse than others) back when I was in college. My skin would turn red and hot and I would break out in hives while it was still in my system. Very uncomfortable. I kept at it though, and eventually the symptoms went away. Today I can drink like a champion. (Maybe the Aussie blood took over?)

            Keep trying, Angry!

          • whiskey prefers what his old man refers to as “sex in a canoe beer”. Fuckin near water. I like my beer like I prefer my whores. Cheap, skanky and leave you wondering what the hell you did that for the next morning. Get on the Icehouse train baby!

          • I’m friends with the brewer at the local micro down here. I asked him if he was going to make a cider and he said he can’t since it’s regulated like wine. But he has made it before and he gave me a super simple recipe for making home made hard cider. You can make it with frozen apple juice concentrate or fresh squeeze your own. He’s a good dude even if he went to aTm.

          • yes, I said sweep. Utah’s 3 weekend starters all have an ERA over 5 and teams are batting over .300 against them in conference play. Beavs are 19-4 at Goss this season. Bring the brooms bitches

          • check that. Their Sunday starter has the best ERA of the 3 at 4.14. Tonight’s starter has an ERA of almost 7 (how in the fuck do you have your Friday night guy with that high of an ERA????) and Saturday they roll out a guy with an ERA of 5.08. All right handed.

  1. Off topic: I just saw that Sydney Wiese was invited to try out for the U.S. women’s basketball team for the Pan-Am Games, and Ruth Hamblin and Jamie Weisner for the Canadian team.

Scott Rueck is also an assistant coach for the U.S. team.

  2. fwiw – An interesting note that may have already been mentioned, the last 7 regular season games are on the Pac-12 Network,

  3. Billy King comes thru again with a 2 out, 2 rbi double. He’s so much better than Clark at DH. 2-0 Beavs in the bottom of the 4th

    • I saw that. What losers.

J&J et al are behind it. If they’d just make good soaps we wouldn’t even have this problem, but they insist on making junk.

      • For those wondering, this would be a red tape bill benefiting the corporatocracy. While you look at it and think that it’s just more gubmint and bad for small businesses and entrepreneurs… you would be totally correct. Big business does not want small business. And the only way they can kill it is by burying new entries in their respective fields. Since pricing new businesses out of the market is illegal, just price them out by making their cost of production more.

How is this not obvious to all? That’s a serious question. I want to know why you guys don’t see the difference between this and something that is actually liberal. I know you see Feinstein and think that Bechtel must just be the biggest liberal force on this earth.

You might be wrong… if those dots even make sense to you.

      • Is it possible to make a natural, liquid, hand soap? My family is hopeless and leaves the wet soap bar on the edge of the sink where it sits in in its own scummy mess. Thus, I’ve gone to the cute little pump bottles – which I’m sure are nothing more than dish detergent. I have not, however, found a remedy for juice containers returned to the refrigerator with 3 mm of juice in them.

    • Yeah… you joke while you suck their teat.

      http://healthimpactnews.com/2015/fda-to-crack-down-on-home-based-soap-makers/

How can you all just not see the big picture? Are you all just so consumed with yourselves that the degradation of everything just doesn’t factor?

“YAY! So long as I got mine, everyone else can pound sand.”

That’s one helluva philosophy… when their coming for you next. If you don’t care now, there won’t be anyone to care about you when the time comes.

      • Question:

Is this the straw that broke the camel’s back, or is this just another “whatever” moment added to our death by a thousand cuts?

As an aside… BG might be amused that I use something called soap nuts for my laundry.

      • Actually the sentiment was serious, if the expression frivolous. I hate large companies buying politicians and creating artificial barriers to market entry.

        • It’s pretty sad that J&J can’t compete with…me.

That instead of building a better mousetrap they have to whine to Feinstein.

        • I’m sure this site will be labeled as a terroristic threat and removed from the interwebs soon. But it’s worth a peek for just a little insight.
          http://www.corporatewatch.org/

And this doesn’t hold a candle to what Singer did in Africa… with all our (yours and mine) tax dollars in the name of relief funds.
          http://www.gregpalast.com/the-vulture-chewing-argentinas-living-corpse/

Face it. It’s a shit world run by shits. You may have zero clue about this because they try to divert your attention by making it all about you. And they do well at it because most Americans are just stupid, biased and ignorant (and, not or). I haven’t had much hope for this country since Bechtel put Reagan in office. It’s just gonna be more of the same until we implode or someone blows us up. The next false flag is just around the corner.

          • I was almost impressed with Obama and Clinton until I realized the big banks were holding their leash. Oh well. So close. I should know better.

          • It’s too bad the Greek govt is just a bunch of pussies. They should just eliminate that scumbag. Send a nice mafia style message.

          • The only election I’ve ever voted was ’08 Obama, and I really regret it.
I fell for the charismatic leader that I wrote about here on the blog. It’s very unlike me, which shows how good Obama was at the shtick. The great thing about time is it shows a person’s true colors. Always.

          • I never thought I’d do it when I was younger, but I started voting more third-party recently. I used to think that was like throwing away your vote, but given that my one vote isn’t going to swing any elections anyway, I like making the statement and voting for someone I don’t dislike.

There’s virtually no meaningful difference between the Democrats and Republicans these days. It’s like choosing between Coke and Pepsi.

          • That’s precisely it. You vote for who you like, not the lesser of two satans. People suffer in groups even though neither group serves them. And that leads to a fear of casting votes for what would seemingly be a sure loser.

Wanting to be a part of the winning team makes everyone losers.

          • I think I’m going to write in my mom next election. Even some of the more interesting alternate party options aren’t very interesting. You’d think with the internet more of these alternative options could gain traction.

          • I was almost impressed with Obama until Larry Summers was hired during his first campaign. I was never impressed with Clinton. I did (and still do) love Robert Reich. But he has nothing to do with this conversation… because Clinton never let him have a say. to do with anything so important that it would last. But damn if his little efforts in the little angle he was given didn’t do some real shit for real people.

Go figure most of Reich’s ideas were Clinton’s broken ’92 campaign promises.

          • Have you ever read about the corporations who take out million dollar life insurance policies on their own employees? Now that is the ultimate messed up.

          • Yes. It’s called a Dead Peasant policy. Wal Mart is your most common culprit.

Obviously, corporations have always taken out policies on their mucky mucks. Those do not fall into the peasant category.

          • Jack. Some slight truth to Greg Palast. But the way he jumps topics indicates that he has gotta be a meth and lsd combo kind of guy. Not exactly fantasy, more like looney tunes.

          • Think of it like you’re someone starving at a food court (and I guarantee all the food is great).

There’s a market starving for truth. But truth has been neglected for so long that its demise has rotted so many dimensions.

If he didn’t footnote like he does, I would think he was just off his rocker. Drill into his notes. That will make you sad.

  4. Cary, Gretler, and Lund all starting today along with King at DH.
Stream as yesterday via OSU site.
    GO BEAVS, Go Drew!

  5. Hamilton aboard on a throwing error, slid into first and fair territory but the 1b didn’t bother to tag him. Big mental error, never seen that before.
Of no account though, still 0-0 at end of 2.

  6. On to the 9th, still 2-0.
Looking like Sunday will tell the story re: sweep. That is actually the game which worried me most, Travis coming off a very good outing and I’m hoping he can string together a couple. He is gonna be needed in any post season games.

  7. If anybody is at the ballpark, could you please strangle that unbelievably annoying woman that keeps screaming about every pitch. Thanks.

  8. Rasmussen can’t finish it. 1 out, top of the 9th, runners at first and 2nd. Mitch Hickey coming in. still 2-0 Beavs

  9. Double play with the bases loaded ends it. Beavs win 2-0, win the series and go for the sweep tomorrow

  10. Stanford beats USC 3-2, Wazzu comes back to probably end any discussion of the ducks making a regional 3-1.

UCLA and ASU currently heading to the 16th tied @ 5. UCLA scratched out a run in the 15th only to see ASU come back and get one off closer David Berg in the bottom half of the inning. Pac-12 after dark strikes again. Here’s the stream if anyone’s still up and interested

    http://pac-12.com/videos/arizona-state-university

  11. UCLA wins it 11-5 in 17 innings. Currently, ASU, Cal, USC and the Beavs have 9 losses. A Beavs win on Sunday against Utah means the Beavs would end the weekend at least tied for 2nd in the Pac-12 depending on other results. The schedule is favorable. Every game from here on out is meaningful

      • at this point with 4 teams with 9 losses, if the Beavs just win, everything will take care of itself. Still two weeks to go but the Beavs are playing well right now. I’d still say hosting a regional is a long shot. Tomorrow withstanding, the upcoming series with Stanford at Sunken Diamond is GINORMOUS. They may be tied for last place but they still have talent and are way more dangerous than Utah. A series win next weekend is a must

      • and also at this point no one is going to catch UCLA. They are very good. And most undoubtedly will be a national seed

  12. once again boregonlive shows it’s pro duck attitude. No write up whatsoever on the Beavs win over Utah which happened IN CORVALLIS and was over by 4 pm. Yet plain as day there is a write up on the duck loss in Pullman tonight. Splain that one Gina or Connor??????????

  13. BeavBlaze,
Give a recruiting update, where does it seem like the coaches are spending their efforts?
Do you have a list of their camps throughout the Summer?

It really seems like they are hitting the South hard, and making a more conscious effort at putting camps together?

    • I don’t have time to write much right now. Mother’s day…..

I will say, they’re hitting florida/texas/cali hard obviously, but I’ve seen activity from georgia, south carolina, arizona, nevada, washington, oregon, Idaho, among others. They’re really canvassing the country more than the previous staff it feels like, and there have been a ton of offers early compared to previous years. I think I read somewhere they plan to evaluate and offer some 200/250 kids this cycle. I’ll update more later.

  14. I guess I’m kind of ambivalent, college baseball gets a helluva lot more coverage that it did 20 or 30 years ago. I vaguely remember an occasional article about Jim Wilson and his home run exploits but that was about the extent of my knowledge of Beaver baseball, but I remember most of the hoopsters and football players from that era.

  15. Had an interesting conversation with my sister last night and the subject of Beaver Football came up. She works at the Capitol for Peter Courtney and she witnessed a conversation with Peter and Ed Ray. Peter was asking about the coaching change and why Mike Riley left OSU. Dr. Ray said he was very surprised by his sudden resignation. Dr. Ray said that a couple of days before Riley left for Nebraska they had a meeting with himself, Riley, and BDC and they told Riley they were concerned with the PRECEPTION that Riley and his staff were complacent with the direction of the football program and they were also concerned that they were too busy trying to make everybody “happy” not striving to become better. Sounds like it was a frank discussion but the senior administration had no idea he was going to leave. I got the feeling this was the first time these folks had ever had this type of discussion. Funny that right after it Riley bolts.

They also talked about GA and the senior administration LOVE LOVE LOVE him. Feel like it has been an A+ hire. What you see is what you get and mediocrity will not be tolerated but they will build a program the right way and not take short cuts.

I am so glad they finally had the stones to call Riley out and hold him accountable.

  16. Two strike pitch left over the plate and crushed by the Ute to tie the game. Two out rally by the Beavs falls short as Nobach grounds out on the first pitch. Too bad King wasn’t hitting behind KJ with the RHP on the mound

  17. Eckert 4 pitch BB to start the 9th and then starts the DP on the sac bunt attempt. Heimlich takes the hill with two down nobody on

  18. Hickey with a K and the the leadoff hitter smashes a ground ball that is smothered by Hamiton and barely get the force at 2b

  19. Very disappointing showing by Mildenberg as a PR; he wasted enough energy looking (at least twice) for the ball or whatever to have beaten out that throw. Simply focus on getting to third, there are no choices to be made and you’ve got a coach dead ahead anyway.

    On to the 14th.

  20. Two on nobody out and no runs as Nobach lines out and Hendrix doubled off. KJ behind the plate as Mildenberg ran for Ice

  21. Looks like football got a new commit today from JUCO Eastern Arizona. Tim Cook, who I’ve seen listed as an OLB and RB. I don’t have time to do much research on him so that’s all I’ve got

    • per pac-12 rules……………………

For non televised games, on the final day of a series, if the visiting team is traveling by commercial air, a time limit (minimum four hours) from the scheduled start time shall be established, with no new inning beginning after the time limit. If a regulation game (per NCAA rules) has been played when
the time limit is reached, the visiting team may leave the competition site, and the game will end in a tie. There shall be no time limit on televised games.

      http://compliance.pac-12.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Baseball-Sport-Regulations-13-14.pdf

      • I suppose I could argue that if I streamed the game to my TV, it was being broadcast on TWN.

        The Whiskey Network

      • Thanks for the official ruling. That is an unacceptable excuse in my opinion, seriously at this level, Utah needs better foresight on their scheduling. P12 needs to change this rule.

  22. Did it end in a tie? I was at a sons football game. I have seen ties listed in the records. Beavs scored 7 runs in three games against a staff whose ERA is pushing 5, right?

  23. Does anyone know someone who’s really fast at building concrete retaining coffins? The wall needs to start under ground a few feet (where I just dug up a hedge) and be at least 42″ high above ground. Will need several trucks of concrete.

Need it done ASAP. Email any leads. Thanks

    • Construction is a three legged stool. One leg is quality, one leg is speed and one leg is price. You can get any two of three choices, but not all three. A fast and cheap retaining wall is probably a crappy product.

    • You’ll be lucky to line up a contractor for a quick job this time of year. And that’s if you already have a permit. If you’re in Portland, call The Wall. They will give you an honest timeline, and they will stick to it. Anywhere else in the area, go to a Willamette Graystone or any other hardscape retailer and ask them for some referrals.

  24. Really disappointed with the time limit. We dropped 7 spots in the RPI because Utah decided to call the game even after they had already missed their flight. I’m sorry, but this game had conference title and hosting implications and a ton of money that come along with that. Utah had nothing to lose so I understand their motivation but why we agreed to a time limit is beyond me. Conference games are too important and just purely from a baseball standpoint, there are no ties in baseball – this ain’t soccer.

    • Utah most certainly DID NOT call the game per Steve Gress at the GT. The four hour time frame was agreed to before the game started. This is why the game start time was moved up an hour. Last commercial flight out of PDX direct to Salt Lake City was at 6pm. Utah had no choice as there was no other flight home. Baseball teams don’t charter that I’m aware of unless to Omaha and generally more than one school travels on the same charter. Sucks to end in a tie but that’s the way it goes sometimes………

      https://twitter.com/stevegress19/status/597564171409043459

      • I don’t work for TSA so I can’t speak logically about flights, cost, arrivals or departures. What I can say is baseball isnt a finite game. When I go to a game my wife often asks when I will return. My retort is the same – when 27 outs are done, unless we are tied. The beautiful part of the game is no time clock or buzzers and while I have seen many games before I cannot lie and say there should ever be a tie

        • well according to pac-12 rules, on get away day, when it’s not on TV and the road team travels commercially? There is a time limit. 4 hours. This isn’t the pro’s. These are student athletes (allegedly). Sorry you disagree. It sucks finishing in a tie but for those reasons I’m ok with it. On to Portland on Wednesday

          • I understand that they are student athletes. It also states in the PAC-12 rules that…

            (1) Rescheduling Policies.
            (a) Extension of Series.
A three-day Conference series may be extended by no more than one day in order to accommodate
            a postponed or halted game(s). (8/98)

This has happened in the past because of weather. I can not remember what year it was though.

Don’t get me wrong they had their chances to win.

    • except the players are student athletes and have classes Monday morning. Baseball is not a revenue generating sport. Therefore travel plans are usually commercial or by bus if close enough. Keep spouting ignorance.

    • Also, score more than two runs against the shittiest pitching in the Pac-12 and we would not be having this debate. The Beavs are going to make the playoffs and they are not going to Omaha, so it does not matter in the end.

      • I think we dodged a bullet. Does anybody think we would have won? It was one of those days offensively. We had plenty of chances and could not execute. Having Harrison bunt was just dumb.

        • RE: the bunt play:
Did anyone else think Mildenberg could have made safely to third if he’d run full out without looking to the infield more than once?
As commented when it happened, what the heck was he going to see which would effect his actions? I suppose if the ball got away from the Utes he may have had a shot at going home, but c’mon, that’s a real stretch!

In that situation it seems to me it is “head down and run full out, plan to slide”. Besides, there is a coach at third to do the lookin’ around.

Really sticks in my craw to have seen him look, at least twice, to the side when running. I’m sure some track expert can correct me if I’m mistaken but I think it cost an out.

But, as others have said, a win over the Utes shouldn’t come down to this type play, especially with good pitching from Eckert and Church.

  25. It’ll be interesting to see if Gary Andersen’s recruiting approach changes if he can’t land some of these 4 star recruits he’s pursuing. I like the effort on his part to try and upgrade the talent but wonder if he begins focusing his efforts on more 3 star and even 2 star guys ala MR. Probably won’t know for a couple of years as he gains a better understanding of his program. Of course, winning will likely change/help that.
