It’s on the road. Maybe being closer to home will help, like it did in Portland. But playing in the Big Jellyfish can be crap. The sight lines to and from the floor are just garbage except for mid-court seats on the lower bowl. It can be disorienting.
My biggest concern is their inability to handle full court pressure. They’ve gotten better as the season has progressed but I’m not convinced they can handle it in conference play.
Not sure on this one. I think that UO wins, but it won’t be easy for them. If OSU can’t shut Young down, they could pull this one out. OSU needs to do a better job on offense. Future for the Beavs looks much better than Ducks’ though.
Imo it’s all going to depend on how intense the Beavs are in playing D (and if they can stay out of foul trouble and play team ball).
To me when comparing how they played D against DePaul and Quinnipiac it was almost like 2 different teams which made me wonder if currently they’re not ready to play intense D on the road. I guess we’ll soon find out (After posting this I just saw Jack’s comment about the same thing).
Speaking of watching Tinkle’s style I was very impressed with how he handled the UCSB post game press conference, especially how he was bragging on the kids for playing team ball.
I expect a back and forth game. Neither team has much depth. The Ducks will make a run at some point in the game. If the Beavs can weather that, they have a good shot. Rebounding and solid defense will win the game.
If you missed it, he has played exceptionally well this season. Pro Football Focus gave him a perfect score in his first career start, meaning he won his assignment on every single play.
I had a vague awareness he was on a roster (which was surprising enough); I had no idea he was a starter, or the level of his play. And then there’s this: Johnny Hekker 2nd team all pro punter. Most of the folks we have seen flail (figuratively or otherwise) the last 4-5 years under Riley just disappear from view, but here’s Remmers prospering. I guess this means there’s hope for Caleb Smith.
Cav looks bad to the astute observer. To those that didn’t grasp how poorly he performed by us would think that Cav created NFL talent. To those not in the know, Cav was some great coach. The reality is that even NFL talent performed miserably under Riley, Cav and co, so glad to rid of that arcane system.
Don’t think Remmers or Hekker can be judged as NFL talents that suffered at OSU. Neither was considered even close to making it at any point in school. They are the extreme exceptions for success in the NFL. Levitre was NFL talent and he’s doing great.
my post wasn’t intended as ragging on Remmers. I’m happy for him too; having guys from your program in the NFL is an unqualified good thing. What I’m mystified by is the disjunction between his lapses with the Beavs and pro-level performance now with the Panthers.
I don’t think it’s because he could have played better at OSU. Guys who are low end guys generally get better in the pros.
Just one of those guys who keeps at it and gets a chance at the right time and makes the most of it. He was floating around on the peripheries of the NFL for several years and it took the right injuries for him to get his shot.
As much fun as trashing the former coaches is, Remmers was a 6’5″, 220 pound 0 star walk on. Hekker was a 0 star walk on high school qb. These would be the quintessential coached up “Diamond in the rough” guys Riley could use as evidence to prove his worth.
0 stars, no one else would take them, now excelling in the league.
The duks were in terrible shape roster-wise following the sex assault scandal. They now have only four returning players (the lack of depth Bill referred to). They even added five walk-ons this fall. How good can they be?
Altman used to out coach CR. It will be interesting to see the how coaching influences the outcome.
I think the coaching is even now with Tinkle at OSU. Can’t stand Altman. Guy is a prick so he fits down at Oregon. It will be interesting to see if he can keep his players for more than 1-2 years. The heavy turnover is why I think OSU will turn the tide in future Civil Wars.
Great God! That’s Mike Remmers starting at right tackle fir the Carolina Panthers? I am pulling my kids aside right now to again inform them once again that anything’s possible. Mothwr of fucking Mary…
I’d be surprised if Oregon State plays well tonight. They have not been good away from home and been bad offensively in road games. Counted this as a loss coming into the game
Oregon State continues to have an Oregon problem. We need a plan to get respect back that we are supposed to win these games as much or more than Oregon. Otherwise our hoops all-time lead will be gone in the next two decades after existing for over a century.
It was 6 free rolls, but you getting the number wrong doesn’t surprise me since your observation skills and attention seem to be lacking based on your previous comments.
They won’t be upsets at home. We have talent. We have zero experience. That means when someone shoots the ball they can’t see the rim like they can at home. Shooting gets better toward the end of the half because then we have experience.
But then once you get comfortable on one end you have to switch to the other end. And getting your bearings in the the Big Jellyfish is just suck. I just trried to watch some of it on TV, and my eyes are now burning. That fucking court loses from both ends. I can totally see the concept and how cool it must have seemed. But it is such an immense failure.
Atrocious half on the offensive end. If the Beavs can remain calm they can get good shots. Get better on the defensive boards and they can win this game.
On the positive side, Duvivier did a damn good job of penetrating and then making his foul shots. He has P-12 speed out there. Ducks are interested in blocking shots, but not really interested in playing fundamental defense, Beavs just have to play smart. This pace is not what the Quacks want.
Blowing an uncontested dunk and then allowing a three immediately afterwards. Ouch. Ball game. Didn’t expect a win tonight but sucks for them to come back and then come out for the second half and play this poorly. Still think the team is playing hard but just aren’t executing. Not surprising.
Last couple of years those game changing five point swings have been deadly to the Beavs. As Angry points out, many times it has started with a missed layup and ends with poor transition defense and an open three for the opposition. Got to start making 99% of the chippies for starters, defending the three had been better until tonight, but they are not going to face a lot of Joseph Youngs,
Game over. Beavers aren’t coming back to win this. Our winning % in football and hoops Civil Wars in last 7 years must be sub 10%. Hard to take this much longer. BDC has made some moves but we haven’t tasted much figgy pudding yet. Hopefully GA is like Casey in that he hates nothing more than losing to the Ducks.
I am glad they started with uo for conference play . I think just the one game will provide a good eye opener of what pac12 play is like and won’t cost two losses to get it.
Am I the only one who thinks Payton needs some plays run for him and he also needs to take the defense off of the dribble on occassion? He has a soft shooting touch and is a good foul shooter.
I would love to hear of Tinkle showing them a floor chart of where the shots were taken, hit vs miss. And pointing out the all the easy misses. Good eye opener to what conference play is all about. Tough place to play and difficult to watch, duck arrogance and smugness approaching the heliopause.
Tall Firs is incorrect. The 1939 NCAA Tournament was not a sanctioned tourney. The teams who played in it knew that whomever won would not be recognized as national champions.
Tell that to Terry Frei and his wholly unbiased book pretending to change the narrative?
It was pretty simple. New Mexico State was the best team in the west, and they went to the NIT. The combined records of the six teams at the NIT was 112-8, or about an average of 19-1. The combined records of the eight NCAA Tournament teams?
Anyone? You, Mr. Frei? Or are you going to be an extreme apologetic like you were in your book about the Webfoots losing badly to Bradley… a team who couldn’t win the NIT?
It was the NCAA Tourney in name only… it was really the NABC Tournament until it was deemed such a failure that the NABC gave it and all the rights to the NCAA. The NCAA then started their run in 1940 by competing against the NAIA Tourney, because they were losing ground as an athletic association at that time. They invited Indiana instead of the conference champs, Purdue, because Indiana beat Purdue late in the season. They also invited Colorado and Duquesne, the finals participants in the NIT… who apparently got on a drunk train to Kansas City after they spent a week in NYC, because they lost early in that first NCAA Tourney.
Well, throw that one in the lesson pile. Some of those fouls called were crap. It seemed like GP2 was trash talking Young all game and he goes for 30 or whatever. Maybe try talking with your hands and feet on defense first? Lol!
Payton is definitely going to be a special player as he adjusts to the increase in competition.
Maybe something along the lines of what offense/defense/packages/etc. would be nice to see as a definition for Beaver football in the coming seasons? Especially that which will address the spread option and Ducks strengths?
How about the lady Beavs? Took UCLA to the woodshed. That being said, I was disappointed in the number of lay-ups they missed (9 by my count; many of them uncontested..) and too many turnovers. On the other hand, they were very good on defense, three point shooting, and rebounding. If they can shore up the TO issue and finish the cripples, they will be a force to contend with.
I don’ know about anyone else, but looking at that photo gave me an adrenaline rush like I get just before kickoff. Someone pinch me. This is really happening.
‘Better Than Average’ is what I’m coming up with from googling it. So I’m guessing they’re reviewing current players and where they need to fill the gaps with JUCO guys and possibly late push for high school recruits.
It’s a team building contest type of thing. Each coach gets a team, they work together to push the other teams in weightlifting, team dance contests and shit like that, academics, community work, etc.
is Kristick a coach or a GA or something? Has Rile E. filled any of the other vacancies on this staff? If not, he’s a week behind Andersen, and counting. Actually two weeks if you consider Riley had a one week head start. This is the same lackadaisical approach we had been long accustomed to.
As much as I wish that the Beavs got hold of the quacks, this tempered the flares for a bit, exposed the team to what conference ball is about, and
Also, anyone paying attention to the rest of the Pac? UDub has lost three straight (to Colorado, Cal, and Stony Brook), Cal lost to Wazzu at home and Cal State Bakersfield lmao, Stanford had that ugly loss to DePaul but looks prime to make a tourney run, UCLA is ass which is making me very happy inside for some strange reason, USC is ass like always and got blown out by a suspect Colorado team. This could be a thread in itself btw.
At this point, anyone can get it. No one except Zona and Utah are really safe. UDub might catch an L if the Beavs learn to play on the road. Same goes for Colorado, Stanford, Cal. 7 conference wins is possible but 6 is my guess now, up from 5 previously.
Pac-12 going to mess around and have three tourney teams at the end of the year lol; Arizona, Utah, and wild card.
Here's a tidbit from the Collins release: Spring ball begins March 2 and the spring game will be April 18. pic.twitter.com/3YLhthiTtn— Gina Mizell (@ginamizell) January 8, 2015
Hey whatever, just an FYI, Twitter has the embed code listed in the “more” section of each tweet. But maybe that’s what you’re doing already?
Also, I’ve found that even though it looks better for AB readers using their PC, the ones using their phone only see the code which makes it pretty difficult to read, especially when there are multiple hyperlinks in the code. It’s almost better just to copy and paste the text IMHO
Ducks favored by 8 1/2. Seems a little high
It opened in double figures.
Ducks have more gambling problems. Spreads are only for even money.
It’s on the road. Maybe being closer to home will help, like it did in Portland. But playing in the Big Jellyfish can be crap. The sight lines to and from the floor are just garbage except for mid-court seats on the lower bowl. It can be disorienting.

Win or lose, Go Beavs!
Hope we take a Tinkle on the duckies
I expect a back and forth game. Neither team has much depth. The Ducks will make a run at some point in the game. If the Beavs can weather that, they have a good shot. Rebounding and solid defense will win the game.
OT, but am I the only one struggling with the meaning of Mike Remmers beings a starter for the Panthers in the wild card game today?
If you missed it, he has played exceptionally well this season. Pro Football Focus gave him a perfect score in his first career start, meaning he won his assignment on every single play.
Makes Cav look really bad.
Brennan is the only one that looks worth a shit by that metric.
Good for Remmers.
Don’t think Remmers or Hekker can be judged as NFL talents that suffered at OSU. Neither was considered even close to making it at any point in school. They are the extreme exceptions for success in the NFL. Levitre was NFL talent and he’s doing great.

Typing on a phone sucks. MOTHER OF FUCKING MARY!
I’d be surprised if Oregon State plays well tonight. They have not been good away from home and been bad offensively in road games. Counted this as a loss coming into the game
Not a good start, down 7-0 with a duck FT coming. Can’t hit the 3 and missed put-backs.
Oregon State continues to have an Oregon problem. We need a plan to get respect back that we are supposed to win these games as much or more than Oregon. Otherwise our hoops all-time lead will be gone in the next two decades after existing for over a century.
You’re being quite dramatic about 6 minutes of a basketball game
Really? Must be nice to make such astute observations based on 10 minutes of basketball.
If Jarmal Reid could jump at all and make layups he’d be decent offensively
GP 2 with his second foul and it’s 14-2 ucks.
I doubt Ben Howland would be losing 14-2 right now. Rally the troops Tinkle. Most important rivalry for OSU.
What are you smoking Sluggish? Can you get some for me?
Most important what? Nikegon?
What?
Try a real hoops team first. And yeah, I know where my team has been and where yours is going.
Most important…
… guffaw!
Nobody actually expected the Beavs to be in this game did they? Only way the Beavs are winning Pac games against decent teams are upsets at home.
Beavs have a better chance of getting 7 free yeast rolls from Golden Corral than winning this game. Sad.
It was 6 free rolls, but you getting the number wrong doesn’t surprise me since your observation skills and attention seem to be lacking based on your previous comments.
Was talking about chance of getting an extra roll. Anyone can get 6 free rolls.
They won’t be upsets at home. We have talent. We have zero experience. That means when someone shoots the ball they can’t see the rim like they can at home. Shooting gets better toward the end of the half because then we have experience.

Home court advantage… accomplished.
wow they stink!
2-15 from the field and Robbins who had made 16 of his last 17 FT goes to the line and misses. 18-7 and Bell has 4 blocks already.
I think the problem is that horrible floor; they can’t see the court.
Urine stains? Vomit?
It’s like you’re underwater in a big pond looking up. And there’s a bunch of trees rimming the pond… and a huge jellyfish in the middle.
My wife doesn’t see the jellyfish. Remember, she the Duck alum. She thinks it says O’TTATT.
I think jellyfish is much more creative.
New coach, but still can’t make layups…
I don’t see how you miss 90% of shots from 1ft away
N’Diaye needs to come over and block that shot, not try and take a charge that’s gonna be a blocking foul anyways
Tinkle left N’Diaye in way too long.
Is it just me, or does Altman look like a sexual predator? Hide your kids, hide your wife
Could be.
We know he recruits sexual predators.
He reminds me of Robin Williams when he played that creep at the photo lab.
http://img2-2.timeinc.net/ew/i/2013/04/30/One-Hour-Photo-Review.jpg
Within 5. This team has heart. That is a difference.
Jarmal Reid is horrible
Game tied. The Beavs really suck, eh?
Oh and Tinkle should be fired.
HAHAHAHAHA
I’m beginning to think there’s some scum sucking ‘ucks posting here.
FUCK OFF DUCKS, FUCK OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I reiterate:
New coach, but still can’t make layups…
I don’t see how you miss 90% of shots from 1ft away
Instead of the usual half time shootaround/warm up, maybe Tinkle ought to make them do the ol’ high school layup drill….
Jesus fucking Christ. If any of the big guys could finish at the rim.
Ugh, those layups were painful to watch… lol. How do you miss that? Lol.
Down only 2, and would’ve been tied had it not for Reid having a major brain fart.
Love how this team has fight and fire.
The Beavers would be winning if Jarmal Reid could make layups. Really painful watching him play
I love a coach that can make in game and halftime adjustments! I love heart.
Atrocious half on the offensive end. If the Beavs can remain calm they can get good shots. Get better on the defensive boards and they can win this game.
Need to come out swinging in the second half. Took body blows in the first 10 minutes and came back strong. 29.6% shooting in the first half.
Women’s team is doing its thing. Up double digits at half.
On the positive side, Duvivier did a damn good job of penetrating and then making his foul shots. He has P-12 speed out there. Ducks are interested in blocking shots, but not really interested in playing fundamental defense, Beavs just have to play smart. This pace is not what the Quacks want.
NDiaye and Gomis are currently not ready to play meaningful minutes in conference.
That has been a little disappointing. I thought Rupp and Tinkle would get more out of them, but Schaft is improved, so I guess it’s a wash.
Not really!
This one’s over.
They haven’t played with much intensity like the OOC schedule. That’s the most disappointing part.
Need to be more aggressive on offense. And its called a fucking pump fake quit getting blocked!
Million dollar move with a ten cent finish. hahaha
Blowing an uncontested dunk and then allowing a three immediately afterwards. Ouch. Ball game. Didn’t expect a win tonight but sucks for them to come back and then come out for the second half and play this poorly. Still think the team is playing hard but just aren’t executing. Not surprising.

Let’s see if they battle back here?
ASU game at home should tell us something about their ability to bounce back.
Beavs need to go small and get the best 5 on the court.
May want to guard Young
Am I the only one who thinks Payton needs some plays run for him and he also needs to take the defense off of the dribble on occassion? He has a soft shooting touch and is a good foul shooter.

UW faithful tripping out over bowl loss to oKST. Comparing themselves to smUCKS…inferiority delux.
http://www.uwdawgpound.com/2015/1/2/7483913/instant-reaction-huskies-oklahoma-state-cactus-bowl-result
I forgot to mention the bashing of JSmith for lack of understanding the spread offense they are trying to run.
Their biggest problem is that Cyler Miles is fucking terrible.
I reiterate… we’re not good on the road yet.
It’s going to take two or three road trips to get over that. We should be happy the first trip was only one game.
This game gets played in Corvallis, we win easy. Nikegon is a one man band.
Jack is right. When UO comes up here, OSU should win this game. I think they will bear ASU and give Arizona a run next week.
still love the team :)
We’ll steal one somewhere this year
OT… kudos plus one for whomever is first to tell me who the NCAA national champions in basketball were… in 1939.
We have to say their name? Will you except Tall Firs?
Tall Firs is incorrect. The 1939 NCAA Tournament was not a sanctioned tourney. The teams who played in it knew that whomever won would not be recognized as national champions.

DOWNVOTE DOWNVOTE DOWNVOTE
I want to post this on the nebraska site
http://angrybeavs.com/football/9689
That’s a classic :-D
That and Rile E. Coyote: Rile E.’s overly complex schemes continually blow up in his face, while opposing teams “meep meep!” right by
Then again, angry… Why say anything more? It’ll be more fun to watch their own journey of discovery ;-)
Some of the non-calls were crap too. Ducks talking trash on tv annoyed the heck out of me, cant even guess how bad it was in the arena.
Umm… GP2 wasn’t talking anything. Young was chattering like a horny squirrel. What game were you watching?
Angry, can we get a new topic up? Want to wipe this one away
Sure. But what topic? I don’t have anything I want to write about. I could put up a general recruiting thread, or if you have another idea.
Maybe something along the lines of what offense/defense/packages/etc. would be nice to see as a definition for Beaver football in the coming seasons? Especially that which will address the spread option and Ducks strengths?
A general thread is fine

Last week, on a radio interview, Associate AD Zach Nyborg alluding to hunkering down to business this week. Lo and behold this showed up in Twitter
https://twitter.com/znyborg/status/551820423873060864/photo/1
BTA? What’s that? Beaver Tits and Ass?
Keith Richards would like that….”Little T&A”
I don’ know about anyone else, but looking at that photo gave me an adrenaline rush like I get just before kickoff.
Beaver Team Accountability
Better Team Already (now that Biley is gone)
I’m guessing “Bring the Attitude” or something like that. He stressed attitude at the press conference. Almost a WTD type of slogan.
Todd McShane (ex Director of Player Personnel) latest to move to Nebraska.
Seems Riley is just transplanting his staff to Lincoln. As I mentioned previously, Husker fans are taking notice
Keaton Kristick also announced he’s been added to the staff today
Does this mean we’ll see the return of user “Kristick Whiffs Again” when he misses on a recruit?
is Kristick a coach or a GA or something? Has Rile E. filled any of the other vacancies on this staff? If not, he’s a week behind Andersen, and counting. Actually two weeks if you consider Riley had a one week head start. This is the same lackadaisical approach we had been long accustomed to.
His twitter account says he’s “Defensive quality control” Doesnt say if that is a GA job or a staff position.
He is the Croatian Sensation coach.
“Defensive Quality Control”
i.e. it’s his job to bitch-slap Banker when he tries a complex scheme or hand-jives wrong
If anyone wants to watch the Semper Fi all star bowl with a couple of OSU target recruits and one commit here is a link
http://www.myp2pguide.com/tv/fox-sports-live-stream/
So Nebraska hired a co-DC for Banker. Guess we know what Riley *really* thinks of him now!
I’m mad. I wanted the Huskers to get the full authentic Biley experience.
I bet the donors wanted some insurance on the defense not being as horrid as it was with the Beavs. Probably some pressure from the donors lol.
As much as I wish that the Beavs got hold of the quacks, this tempered the flares for a bit, exposed the team to what conference ball is about, and
