I’d give the Beavs a 1% chance of winning this game, meaning if they played it 100 times, they’d win once. Haha. It’s that bad. When I said we were (or would become) a glorified high school team via NIL, pay for play, and the transfer portal, I wasn’t wrong.

This has upset written all over it. Texas Tech is riding a wave of hype after beating two nobodies, and Oregon State is always at its best when expectations are low. I think they clean up the mistakes and pull off a close one on the road. Call me crazy.

  3. Seeing headlines and hyperbole about the dismal future of Okie State after their blowout loss Saturday ….hell, they’re backed by oil money aren’t they? They can’t compete anymore for players?

The temporary stalking protective order against Ayers has been withdrawn.

Rodriguez requested the order in early August, alleging she had been physically abused by Ayers. A temporary order was granted at that time pending a hearing but she did not attend the hearing Monday & Judge Demarest granted the request of Ayers attorney to withdraw the temporary order and dismiss the request for a permanent order.

Noonan acknowledged the Corvallis Police Department is investigating the allegations, but he noted “there are no pending criminal proceedings at this point.”

These two are/were in a clearly toxic relationship but he has clearly shown poor judgement.

Does that mean he is unsuspended? Does it matter?

Canzano on his radio show today was talking about Bray’s sideline reporter F-bomb being a slip up that is indicative of his lack of control over his team. He doesn’t have discipline, and the team doesn’t either.
    Fair enough.

Then he goes into suggest maybe OSU needs to move Bray full tile back into the DC role, and bring in a disciplined veteran coach to stabalize things.
Guess who that veteran coach he suggested was….

    • Im really not impressed with what I’ve heard or seen from people affiliated with Locked On. They seldom cite sources – named legit sources – seem more interested in giving their thoughts, speculations and “ideas” than reporting actual news that actually happens. But they probably know how to get clicks with stuff like “Rumors of a team moving back to the Pac-12” and “Curry to Blazers trade proposed” (by a podcaster talking about SETH Curry)

Court hearing starts tomorrow P12-MWC where the MWC is seeking a dismissal of the lawsuit, but I doubt the judge will grant that request.

No shot the Beavs stay within 4 TDs. Game over by halftime if not sooner.

      OSU- 17

Time to shutter VFC and turn Reser into a soccer stadium. OSU football has been vanquished by many foes, but mostly been destroyed from within by poor leadership.

      • Leadership including the old pac-12 commissioner. Yes Barnes could do better. Bray could do better etc. But let’s not act like we aren’t going to a fight with a stick.

And of course it is destined that MR should be the only option as the steady hand who can right the ship.

If Barnes actually pulls that stunt, I think I would have to finally be free of the Beavs.

    • 7
      5

Well, the way things look in the short term, it might be a good plan. Long term? No, but that’s nha can’t get much worse so having a guy like MR to come in and address the issues like special teams might be a benefit as we know things don’t appear to be getting any better. MR would bring a wealth of experience and knowledge something that Bray doesn’t possess. The old saying, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results applies to the current situation. I’d be at least willing to give it a shot as we’ve got nothing to lose as the season is pretty much shot.

I don’t want him to invest in football. Use the money for something that can help people, especially when college sports is a mess without parameters.

Actually, this is the perfect time to have a mega donor. He could have OSU winning an NCAA championship in 1-2 years and it would be a massive F.U. to the system.

        • 4
          2

Yes, cash certainly helps in todays world. Yes, a school like OSU will never compete without a bloated wallet. But, lots of schools have wasted resources chasing the elusive trophy and have not much to show for it.

Having a mega donor doesn’t necessarily equate to National Championships. Look no further than 40 minutes south. Phil has dumped millions into that program, before it was even legal, and still a fat zero like their logo.

I’m still in the camp of letting the dipshits with cash becoming a semi-pro feeder to the NFL and allowing academic institutions a league where they play college football

    • How about the special teams quality control guy? You know, Daniel Akey? As mentioned before, is his relation to Special Assistant to the Head Coach making him an untouchable in this fiasco?
I’m with “Dave from Tumwater”; way too much inbreeding in Beavs sports in general and especially in FB

Civil War “rivalry” game to pause next season due to schedule commitments, resume in 2027.

Mullens said UO need for 7 home games will take precedence over a home-and-home Civil War, so there may be pauses in the future. Barnes says regional rivalries mean more than ever and the student-athletes want the game.

This year’s beatdown is on the B10 network with a noon kickoff, though Mullens says you never know what will happen in a rivalry game…

      • 15
        1

Yeah what’s the point of that? Wasn’t that the reason they were going to continue initially. So they want to pause when it’s supposed to be in Corvallis and reinstate when it’s scheduled for pewgene? LOL

        Fuck that guy

Oregon State should never play oregon in football ever again. What’s the point of being a consistent bloodbath doormat and losing by 40+ points, not coming close to being a competitive game every year? Who benefits here, OSU or them and only them? They left, leave it at that and move on. They can schedule someone else to pad their stats. How many blowout Civil War losses on National TV will it take for the most loyal donors to say no more? Maybe after the Beavers lose by 70+ this year? It’s only going to get worse and less competitive as time goes on. Barnes is an idiot if he continues to schedule the non existent “Civil War” especially in football. I refuse to waste my time watching the massacre formerly known as the Civil War, I know many who are doing the same.

    • 6
      2

This was so predictable. Mullens is laying the ground work for the Civil Ware series continuing but only if its in Eugene every year. I been on board with keeping the rivalry going if only because of the history and OSU has about zero opportunity to get top ten teams to visit Reser. It keeps OSU / Reser relevant.

If the condition for continuing the game is that its in Eugene every year, then absolutely not. There’s next to zero benefit to it. OSU can go play just about any team in the country it wants to on the road and probably get better money.

      • 2
        1

Genuine question to those that feel the need to keep Oregon for the “strong opponent”

Do you guys really think OSU would be more likely to make the playoff at 12-1 with a loss to a top 10 opponent or 13-0 without playing a top 10 opponent?

Because I think the 12-1 team will get zero credit from the committee for playing that game. But would get credit for being undefeated.

        • Strong opponent at home in Reser. There’s a difference. The reality is most our competition for a G5 spot in the playoff will be playing ranked P4 team on the road most seasons. We would have a ranked team in Reser every other season. It’s an advantage.

And yes I expect a 12-1 G5 team who lost a close match to a top ten opponent would get the nod over an undefeated G5 team who played nobody.

As an example in 2023 one loss Tulane team (loss to ranked Ole Miss) was consistently ranked by the CFP ahead of undefeated Liberty (who played nobody) until Tulane lost its second game late in the season.

Last year one loss Boise St (loss to Oregon early) was consistently ranked ahead of Army who started 8-0. They faded at the end but never would have overtaken Boise in the CFP rankings.

          • It’s an advantage if you win.

I think they’d take another 13-0 G5 team with no games against a top 10 over a 12-1 OSU with a loss to a top 10 team though.

Sure, maybe if they have zero “ranked” opponents you might be right but “ranked” and “top ten” aren’t the same thing.

Even at that we don’t know for sure given that we haven’t seen it in reality once the final rankings come out yet.

            Appreciate the response!
I still think wins are more important than opponents but time will tell.

  11. Article on the Big O yesterday that headline reads, “Trent Bray sees the light at the end of the tunnel,” but I don’t have a subscription so I was unable to read it. I just wonder what tunnel he was referring to?

    • 4
      1

The tunnel of looking at 0-4 to 0-6 to start of the season. I don’t see the Beavs traveling to over 2,000 miles away to Boone, North Carolina and beating Appalachian State on the road. Wake Forest is better than Fresno State and more talented. The wins that I see are Sam Houston State, Lafayette, possibly Tulsa. If the Beavs play flawless and/or the other team plays horribly, then maybe Houston, Wake Forest, and Wazzu at home? What other program in the country would keep a coach employed who is 0-5+? Coming off a 5-7 season which they lost 9 of their last 10 games? Reser might not even have 10,000 in attendance by October.

Ohio State saying only two B10 programs are brands, OSU and M, and revenue sharing needs to change to their benefit.

Last year they spent $20M on football players, $21M on coaches….

    • Yeah and they don’t like the new transfer portal idea. So they seem to be all high and mighty. Send the “brands” to the premier league and let them enjoy keeping up with the jones’.

    • 6
      2

Greed is a funny thing it’s never really satiated. The only viable options to drive increased profits for the “brand” programs is unequal revenue sharing or kick out the bottom feeders in the BIG/SEC.

USC and UCLA left the PAC because they felt they deserved bigger shares of the revenue in the PAC12. Now that they’re just another team in the BIG, it’ll be interesting to see how they feel if the BIG goes to unequal revenue distributions and they start getting less than some. Oregon and Washington have a lot to worry about because their contract with the BIG guaranteed them a 1/2 share for 5 years and only consideration of a full share after that. They’ll be easy targets for lower revenue shares to satisfy tOSU and M.

If unequal revenue shares in the SEC and BIG don’t come to fruition, I suspect the next round of realignment will be ejecting the bottom feeders from the BIG and SEC or more likely the brand programs breaking away and leaving the bottom feeders behind. Think Nebraska, Purdue, Illinois or Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Mississippi St, Missouri, maybe Arkansas & UCLA etc. It’s really the last option to drive revenue shares for the “brand” program further North. There aren’t really any remaining ACC and BIG12 schools that could be added to the BIG and SEC that will up their value but removing bottom feeders will definitely put more money in the pockets programs at the top.

Recently the AD at Nebraska said if this last round of realignment was painful for some the next round will be even more painful. He was talking to Nebraska boosters and I suspect he was talking about Nebraska’s situation in the BIG. Mediocre football, mediocre basketball, small market, and no longer AAU affiliated.

  13. TT QB completing 74% of his passes so far, 7 TDs, no INTs, pocket passer, and beavers have no pass rush.

TT spent a lot on front seven on D, and Murphy will be under constant pressure.

All cupcakes on their schedule of course, third one coming up!

  14. Illegal transfers in high school football….its amazing how important sports are to people, and how losers like this Steigh guy actually get parents to take money…

“A private high school in the Los Angeles area has forfeited its 2025 varsity football season in the wake of allegations that a local bagman funded the illegal transfers of five players to the team.

Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance announced Tuesday it was suspending its season. The school is in the middle of an “internal investigation in coordination with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Department of Catholic Schools,” after it self-reported California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section violations.

It was already a season to forget for the Bishop Montgomery Knights, even before the school announced its decision Tuesday. The team raised eyebrows this offseason when it picked up over 20 transfers. Suspicions that something was up were all but confirmed Aug. 20, when CIF-SS ruled five of those transfers ineligible for violating a bylaw about “Providing Incorrect, Inaccurate, Incomplete or False Information.”

Just three days later, the Knights traveled to Hawaii to take on St. Louis School. Officials called the 34-27 loss early when a brawl broke out between the two sidelines and police intervened. The incident led to a wave of suspensions that forced Bishop Montgomery to forfeit its next game against Orange County powerhouse Mater Dei. A week after the game in Hawaii, the school parted ways with head football coach Ed Hodgkiss.

Yet all of that paled in comparison with the revelation Monday that infamous high school booster Brett Steigh helped secure the wave of transfers to Bishop Montgomery. In an interview with On SI’s Tarek Fattal on the “Fattal Factor” podcast, Steigh, a local businessman who says “most of my money does come from gambling,” revealed he paid parents to get players to transfer to not just the Torrance program but also to Narbonne — where Steigh graduated from in 1992 — and St. Bernard. This marks the third school where Steigh’s association eventually led to penalties and violations. ”

    • At least that’s not a total body bag game like the blue bloods they scheduled in the past and it’s not a home game for byu either.

    • I got no problem with doing this once a year. Shouldn’t prevent you from getting to 6 home games.

I’d also argue for playing FCS schools in Portland even if it is considered one of the other 6 home games. Anything that can tie OSU to the Portland market should be done.

Just don’t take one and done road games.

  15. Honestly, except for the team that shall not be named, the legacy Pac-12 is having a crappy ass season. UCLA down against New Mexico. Hope the checks cleared.

  16. Arizona stadium looked about 40’percent full. We aren’t the only ones. There’s zero hope to go on a playoff run unless you are in the 20 mil range. Happy for Coach Brennan getting some wins though.

      • Last place in the Mountain West! Eff the Bruins for what they did, and the Huskies/Trojans are going to be just fair to middling for a long time. Quacks may be the only winners with football, but at what cost to every other program?

        • 1
          1

Oregon would have been better off staying too. Would have had less travel, an easier schedule, undefeated most seasons plus the automatic conference bid if they did lose some non-con games somehow.

  17. 4
    1

This team is likely to start 0-6 for the year. Not sure how you keep the locker room with that type of start. Think Tech is 23.5 pt favs right now. I might actually take the over on that. Sounds like the TT front 7 is better than Cal’s front 7 who were very dominant over our OL. First road game of the year and we won 1 road game last season. It’s sad there’s been 0 accountability for any of the coaches from the disaster that was the last 2 weeks. Not sure how the ST guy has kept his job. Must be nice to have the job security like that. Be terrible at your job, make hundreds of thousands each year and have no worries in the world.

    • 4
      1

The disaster has been ongoing since the 4-1 start last season. Come on, losing 28-0 to Air Force? They ended up being a crappy Mountain West team last year. They also lost to a three-win Nevada team. One can blame the poor QB play last season, but who is responsible for that? OC and HC, right? When one considers the level of competition, this is bordering on GA era stuff.

  18. This whole thing just makes me sad. I wanted Trent Bray to be successful, and maybe in the old days when recruiting wasn’t all about NIL money, he could have. He clearly couldn’t find anyone good to be his assistants, and so we’re left with the OSU reunion coaching staff that is full of not good coaches, and a group of players that don’t seem to be very good. I think Bray is a nice guy, and I think it sucks for him that he’s the face of this team in this era.

I don’t really know what will happen to OSU sports going forward, but I’m sad about how the past few years have gone for NCAA sports in general. I NEVER thought I’d enjoy watching pro sports more than college. And now, I simply don’t care when I see a college game on. I’ll watch any NFL game now and pretend its because I’m tracking my fantasy football guys, but really it’s just because watching college sports makes me sad.

    • I’m with ya. At least pro sports have a little bit of field leveling between seasons with the salary cap and draft process. Its not perfect, but its also not a downward spiral when a team has a rough couple of years

  19. 1
    1

Haven’t even turned on the game, score 0-0, yet 4 fellow alums have already texted how bad they look. This page confirms.

Think I’m gonna go to the park instead.

      • Yeah, I think that’s why you’re seeing frustration among the players. Next thing we’ll see is lots of players hitting the transfer portal.

    • Stupid question: do long snappers wear gloves? Watch the issue be some sort of altered tackiness of the balls or snappers gloves because of fresh paint in the locker room or something stupid like that. Should give them a try for the two away games, what have the got to lose?

  20. Pretty sad we are spending 1.5 million on a QB yet the rest of the team sucks. Is Erickson still kicking. He’ll ask him to have mercy on us and help us.

  21. I picked the best time to nope out of caring about college athletics.

It’s become the pros but with shittier players.

At this point I just poke my head in on random fan fanbases melting down for the lulz :)

    • Man, its one thing to get hammered by a Texas Tech, but North Texas State. I’m afraid our brother to the northeast is in just as bad a shape as we are. Sad.

  22. Mizzou is pretty good. Had over 600 yards offense with over 400 on the ground Ahmed Hardy had 250 rushing. Tennessee is not balanced enough. No running game. I love to throw but you have to be able to run the ball.

  23. Turn out the lights the party is over. MM is just taking money now. He has decided it isn’t worth caring when the whole staff is hindering everybody.
These guys will be lucky to win 2 games honestly. The staff is lost and the players are already tuning them out and considering where to transfer out as soon as they can.
How embarrassing to see the special teams is worse than many high schools. I’d imagine a lot of guys on the roster are in schock at how ridiculous the whole thing is beginning to look. Reality is beginning to take a toll.

  24. Why are these idiot announcers babbling about Murphy’s ability to run? Do they know anything about his past? Duke moved on from him because they wanted a dual-threat QB.

    • Against P-4 competition, the defense is looking weak and slow, like the worst GA teams. I guess the only glimmer of hope is they won’t be playing P-4 competition much in the future, but it almost certainly means they won’t be back at the P-4 level either. The best we can hope for is that Bray’s replacement can develop a Group of Six powerhouse.

  25. Somebody needs to tell MM to try and plant his back foot when he throws. I’ve never noticed a qb throw while backpedaling so much.

Gundy needs to have him roll out or something if there isn’t time due to the pass rush. Not that it matters anymore actually.

  26. 10

This product is so bad that the Beaver faithful have nothing to even be angry about anymore. This is a dreadful showing and it continues to get worse week by week. Barnes should be considering a coaching search to replace the entire staff at the beginning of December.

Bray has been defeated and his energy is now depleted. Unpreparedness, horrible execution and a lack of game-plan is continuing to expose the entire staff.

OSU is being shown once again on a national broadcast how embarrassing the sports program is, confirming what all of the pundits said 2 years ago after the PAC dissolved. OSU should just shut it all down and focus on Baseball and engineering. Why care if the school admin never cared to begin with.

At this point, I suspect the lawsuits were only to maintain status for future government research grants and never about actual successful sports programs. Prove me wrong.

      • If anything, I think all of the lawsuits etc were more about sustaining the university bottom line for everything linked to Power 5 level academics and research programs rather than maintaining a Power 5 caliber sports program.
All media grandstanding was always focused on student athletes but now I just don’t buy it. I no longer believe that athletics is or ever was the priority at OSU.
I’m willing to hear the view that may disprove my conclusion but I doubt anyone cares.

        • It’s beyond obvious at this point. Other than baseball the university doesn’t care about athletics. It just doesn’t.

What makes no sense is why they spend so much on Reser given that.

  27. 2
    5

If you think this game is bad, just wait until next weekend. That hamr is the end of Bray’s HC tenure at OSU. He will remain as DC but I’m ready for Smiley Riley v4.5 or 5.0.

  28. 6
    3

How about just cancelling the Nike game before next week. Say the whole team is ill and we can’t field a team.
Pay whatever fines and move on. Don’t give the ducks another chance to destroy OSU in another sport.

    • Overall, how do y’all grade the effort of the players today? Just the players, forget the coaching.
Both Bray and Thomas mention lack of effort in post game interviews.

  29. 13

Apparently, it is not apparent to a great many on this post. No serious money=no coaches and no players=no wins. Without some serious money, changing the HC is an exercise in futility.

    • University wide commitment is how you get that money.

I disagree that they don’t already have the resources to compete within the new conference with better coaching though.

To dominate the new PAC and compete nationally does take a new campus wide approach though. This coaching staff ain’t the one either way.

      • I was watching the cal game. Look up their coaching staff. Much more experience there than what the Beavs have and it shows. The execution and preparedness is evident.

    • I disagree on the coaching part. If we had competent coaching we would have beat Fresno and possibly Cal. It’s amazing how really good coaching can make a difference.

  30. Stats at Yahoo show 2 sacks by Beavs and only 4 penalties. 4 penalties only allows 2 beyond the 2 false starts on the first possession. Improvement?

  31. 5
    1

Reckon college football is minor league baseball for me now. I spent the afternoon riding my bike. AAA is definitely better than A ball but it is all minors. I’ll tune in when my team is doing good and if it is convenient and cheap I’ll catch a game or two and drink some beers. But that’s what it is now, I’m not even that bummed about today.

  32. 14
    3

There is a certain sadness upon realizing I can have my fall Saturdays back and OSU doesn’t have to be a part of them anymore.
I really appreciate DE and how he made OSU a national sensation. I will never understand the mindset of the alums and administrators who still cling to a Riley mindset. It’s like they have no inclination to greatness, but are always happy for mediocre or simply ok to disregard sports institutionally.
Perhaps I should have been prepared a long time ago to just move on from OSU sports. I have shared great moments at OSU sports during the PAC10/12 era with friends and family.
Today I must admit that OSU will never be a competitive football program again, nor in men’s basketball. The clock is ticking on Rueck getting an SEC offer so women’s basketball is going to rapidly decline. I’m glad for the CWS run for baseball but I’m not convinced they can get back ever again. In a lot of ways, even the new PAC12 feels like a fraudulent effort to maintain a lost status and OSU has zero vision for itself, let alone thinking they have a vision for a conference. I’m sad and will miss having high expectations. I guess I’m cured of an optimism about OSU and it is replaced with a pall of low expectations.

  33. Is it too early to start thinking (posting) about the next head coach?
Is it possible for OSU to replace a coach and not go 1-11 in year one?
Right now… we don’t need 13-0… we just need to not be horrible.

  34. 2
    1

It’s one thing to be 0-3, its another to even have the post-game show hosts on the flagship station wonder what the hell is going on. Worse than Gary Andersen era Beavers? Would Mike Riley be an improvement? Lend credibility to the program?

    • I’m quite perplexed. I saw the team practice/scrimmage early in fall camp and they looked so improved.

The energy was focused, tense, competitive. There weren’t a ton of mistakes, offense and defense both trading blows with big plays. Playing fast and aggressive.

I don’t know if it’s something intangible about the locker room or staff under Bray (maybe they are too close?), or just losing all confidence getting beat by a more talented CAL team then they expected and realizing they aren’t as good as they thought they were, but the reality of what the team looks like now vs then is pretty unexplainable, and ultimately inexcusable.

It is indeed GA level dysfunctional, and at this point, it doesn’t really matter how or why you got here, there’s very little chance of recovery.

The X and O’s are bad, but the “intangibles” are worse. The team looks dejected, asleep, and directionless. Totally unsure, unconfident and even uninterested in anything that they are doing.

      Truly the darkest Beaver timeline.

      • That was the vibe from all of the local media, and FWIW, they made Phil Steele’s most improved list. They don’t look better to me at all, except for more depth in the passing game. They have some injuries on the OL, and Ayers is out. They probably win the Fresno game if Black were healthy, but the coaching is amateurish with no plan when challenges strike.

  35. Only the mentally ill had any thoughts that this team would keep this game close. We can’t win on the road and I dont think theres 1 game on this schedule where they will win on the road. The coaching is that bad.

This team is cooked. There’s 2 realistic wins on this schedule and maybe you can sneak one vs the Cougs? Not sure. They looked really bad last night but I also think we would’ve lost to both teams the cougs beat. While the 2017 team had just the 1 win, I’d say this is a worse team in general wven if they have a couple more wins because this is the easiest schedule rhe beavs have had.

I don’t really know if there’s any coach on this team that you keep if you could? I mean, I’d love to keep Bray as DC but other than that, I’m not sure there’s much else left. I suppose Coach Cooper over the DBs has done well with what’s he’s got. Otherwise, I think you’d be able to live without any of the other coaches staying. I know people were big on coach heck with TE but that unit hasnt seemed anything beyond OK and if Caufield is our best TE, thats a position that is in trouble.

I’m also not sure I believe this is a talented group of players. A lot of people like to spew that fact, but I’m not seeing it on the field. OL and DL are the weakest they’ve been for a long time. I can understand the OL being ass because that was a strength of ours and Coach M was an awesome line coach. DL has been a very bad position for us outside of that 10 win season and for this group to be even worse than some of those other years is really saying something. OLB unit is ass. 3 games in and we finally get our first sack. On track to collect 4 sacks this year which would be 3 less than last season. MLB is ok. Finally Foster led the team in tackles but then our next 5 top tacklers were from the secondary. That’s crazy. I’d say that is actually a very weak position as well. RB room was supposed to be a strength and it’s not. I get the OL blocking has been bad, but talented RBs can break some tackles, create some yds and yet we had 22 total rushing yds yesterday. Around 50 vs Cal and only broke 100 vs Fresno State. I Do think that better coaching would elevate a lot of the guys on this squad, but I’m not sold that the talent is actually there.
