This should be fun. The +24 line is an absolute joke. If anyone can give me a good reason for that kind of optimism, I’m all ears, but in the absence of that, I’m not going to sugar coat this one…
Oregon 77, Oregon State 7

Oregon 77, Oregon State 7
This will be the first CW I don’t even attempt to watch since I started watching football as a child in the 80’s.
I mean if you have any sort of life, why would you waste a few hours watching this team?
Morbid curiosity forced me to watch the Texas Tech game just to see how bad it could get, but now that that itch has been scratched… nope. I’ll be doing literally anything besides watching this game.
Was all I could do to continue watching after the very first play was a false start.
My wife came in toward the end yesterday, looked at the score and asked, “why do you continue to subject yourself to this?” I couldn’t give her a cogent answer as she has been around this and me for nearly 40 years and has seen the bad, not so bad and the really good times with this program up to and including the thrashing of Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl, which appears to be the pinnacle of Beaver football.
I guess I’m hoping, always for a miracle, that the Beavers, no matter how far down they are, somehow get it together and come back. But ultimately, no matter what happens, the sun rises the next day. There will be a new coaching staff come next season as this one is just too dysfunctional. Will they be able to turn this ship around? I hope so.
This game only benefits uo. Why continue playing uo in football when it is so lopsided and uncompetitive? The Beaver fans don’t want it, the Beaver players don’t care. Oregon just wants an easy win to help pad their statistics as they aim to buy themselves a National Championship. OSU is very unwise and stupid to continue playing the Civil War in football. I won’t watch it because the Beavers will lose by at least 50 points, and I chose to do anything more productive with my time.
I think numbnut Barnes should take his cue from Rueck. Scott didn’t seem to give two shits that they weren’t playing the Quacks last season. Barnes seems to be the one obsessed with it, and I get the money aspects, but football can go play body bag games against other P-4 programs if it’s just about the bucks.
Another program that reinforces on how great coaching can turn a team around, that all of thought would be discarded from the SEC, is Vanderbilt. Yes, they have a great qb, but their schemes on both sides of the ball are excellent. If Vandy can elevate their program out of the bottom of the SEC, so can the Beavers. But it has to start with the administrations commitment and many of us don’t believe its there. If they do not have a commitment to continuously compete for conference championships, I vote to shut down most if not all of their sports programs.
Unfortunately, we’re comparing P-4 versus the Group of 6 now. Vanderbilt is P-4; the Beavs were left in the dust. NIL makes the elevation you’re talking about almost impossible at that level. How does one become a consistently solid Go6 program?
I don’t know. I don’t think programs like Vandy, Indiana and Iowa State throw big bucks around at players like the blue bloods do in their conferences. My point was that great coaching can earn a few extra wins. I look at some top FBS programs who most likely would beat our Beavers do mostly to excellent coaching and schemes.
How many players will play one more game, redshirt, then hit the portal? Where will Wells Jr go next year? I caution guys leaving and losing playing time but I don’t blame them for seeking/getting more money.
For the younger readers, imagine watching this level of incompetence for 28 straight seasons. It is why so many view Riley as a miracle worker. Fans were so beaten down, they were happy just to see a competitive team.
Excellent point!
So UCLA just jetisoned Foster with 3 games in. I can’t imagine who would take over for Bray in the line of assistants if he gets the boot; they all appear inept.
Jonathan Traitor Smith to UCLA at the end of the season? He is from So Cal.
I would be surprised if the Pugdy Gnome jumps ship. Sparty is seriously committed to football, although I doubt they will ever compete with the elite of the Big 10. UCLA is just a cluster.
They have some righteous ice cream at the campus dairy at MSU. The Gnome shall get pudgier.
Yeah, was thinking the same thing. All of the assistants are not good. They need to fire the whole staff!
I always chip in when Beaver fortunes hit a new low.
I’m again willing, at age 85, to come back to Corvallis and restore Beaver football to the glory days!
My option offense is designed to keep our losses to less than twenty four points! How cool would that be?
I would require, however, that those new fancy assed seats be replaced by splintered wooden 6 X 8s.
OK, I’m listening…
He lives!
You’re 86.
I like oatmeal.
I think I’m going to adopt Cal as my surrogate team this year. Hell, they could go undefeated missing Miami, Clemson and FSU this year.
I don’t think Riley’s formula of developing underrecruited players would work in the NIL era. And I don’t even know if I’d want to trade places with VT or UCLA. Sure they are in “HAVES” conferences, but I doubt they’ll ever even be competitive. I’m surprised UCLA even cares enough about football to move on from Foster. I don’t know if Smith would even take the job given the lack of enthusiasm there is for the sport in Westwood.
A Riley type could stabilize the program.
The program is clearly spiraling.
I follow Utah closely as I lived in SLC for 14 years. My third college team is Cincinnati, and I also lived there. Beavs are #1, but I admired how Whittingham works. Never thought Utah and Cincy would be in the Big 12 together. College football is just weird now.
That’s funny as I thought the exact same thing last night watching them beat Minnesota. Cal has a solid coaching staff, great defense and their QB is outstanding.
QB is awesome. So who buys him next year.
Bray is an embarrassment
Being aggro on 2 pt conversions in general this yr then not being congruent and having our QB punt on 4th and 4 down 7 as 24 pt road underdogs after the D actually gets you a stop… making the decision with the one chance we had to “stay in the game” is legit insanity ( I Know we were never winning but may as well try and play game theory optimal)
At the end of the first half yesterday, the offense had no concept of spiking the ball to preserve time for a long field goal or a Hail Mary. It looked like Murphy was looking at the sideline for some answer while the clock ticked down to zero. The coaching has been amateurish all season, to say the least.
Not to mention attempting a 47y FG down 14 LOL… obviously go for it on 4th and 8. Totally crazy.
He thinks he’s like really sharp running that QB punt as well.. GENIUS! #not
well TBF he thinks it was his way out of our snapping issues… news flash if u give them the ball there u have 0% to win. If u get a 1st down you’re still .01 to win
Misery really does love company. Oregon State, Bemidji St. and Minot St are a combined 0-9.
It’s a bad year to be a Beaver…
Dam.
So you’re saying Beaver stink???
Im saying that Beavers of all shapes and sizes are getting rounded this fall.
Mic drop…
“Pounded”
Fricking autocorrect…
Admittedly, I didn’t watch much of the game, but from what I did see the o-line seemed to hold up decently well in pass protection against TT’s front seven. That’s about the only positive I could take away. Did anyone else feel major secondhand embarrassment every time the Beavs lined up to punt with the punter not even being 10 yards behind the snapper?
“Major secondhand embarrassment”?……..C’mon, Beaver fans can handle it!
Maybe at the next home game, they can honor the 1996 team which was the last team to start the season 0-4 (they started 0-5 before beating Stanford), that was Pettibone’s last season.
Thank you for remembering my accomplishment. I’m truly humbled and proud to be so honored.
PS: A little cash would be nice.
The line opened at beavers +27.5 and has already moved to +35. That is a huge move. Might get to +38 or get taken off the board
I can imagine a scenario at the Corvallis airport the night of the 2023 Civil War as the Gnome and staff were boarding the plane together. All of the staff had climbed the stairs and boarded the private jet when Barnes pulled up in his 2009 Volvo with the lights flashing, Bray was the last to board because he was viewed as the youngster of the bunch. Barnes jumps out of his car and shouts at Bray to give him 5 minutes. Bray is too kind to say no and obliges.
Barnes knows he has only one shot at this so he offers Bray a chance to 10x his salary for a 2 year run as HC, no matter how bad he does, or the staff, he gets 2 years and $5million. Bray asks “Can I just bring in all of my buddies even if they stink as coaches?”
Barnes is over a barrel and says “Sure kid, whoever you want. We just need to field a team for 2 years to get to our next conference.”
Bray looks in his phone contacts to make sure he knows enough guys to fill each spot and agrees.
Barnes departs like Alexander the Great and Bray pokes his head in the plane and tells the old staff to “…enjoy East Landfill and don’t get to cold suckers!”
That night Bray calls his Dad and tells him the news, old man Craig started laughing so hard he nearly choked because he knew Trent doesn’t need or want to be a HC but “…if the fools will pay then cash the checks.”
Bray began like any self respecting hard worker and gave this best shot for about 5 games while the roster was still intact last year and some of the muscle memory was still there. But he has faded and so has the skill/competency/attention to detail of the staff and the roster. We are in a free fall and it won’t be slowed down this year by this staff or this roster.
OSU football will be easily bottom half of the new iteration of PAC12 conference and I don’t think the administration has the guts/will/vision to make a good hire to get out of the situation they will find themselves in within about 3 months.
My guess is there will be a win or 2 towards the end of the season portrayed as “something to build on for next year” but we know it will be a hollow PR attempt and completely insane to think it.
Barnes will kick the can and leave it up to Bray to step aside. Then Barnes will promote Gundy or some nonsensical plan along those lines.
Funny stuff! I could envision that happening. Pretty sad.
The line should be something like +60. What happens if it gets taken off the board? Everyone gets refunded?
I love that Beaver fans are totally against the Bray hiring now and want to see him canned 3 games into the season. ( After 3 games against teams with a combined 8-1 record)
The majority of Beaver fans were head over heels in love with the hiring. What happened to all the “Bray Area” talk?
So now it’s all Barnes fault that our inexperienced head coach who never wanted to be a head coach is underperforming? Beaver fans gotta look in the mirror. You made it easy for Barnes to make that hire. He would have been roasted if he hadnt hired Bray.
Some of us were never for it and preferred Bronco Mendenhall
But, I can say I didnt watch any of the Cal and TT games. Caught a little of the Fresno game and it was a complete dumpster fire.
My interest in cfb is at an all time low. Its not just due to the Beavs being awful either.
Same, I’ve seen very little football this year. Maybe 1/4 of the Beavs game against TT and that’s it.
And even within that 1/4 took off several plays, just like the Beavs.
I think Bray was a above average DC and was hopeful he would be a good HC. He hired a dismal staff as well as as made many head scratching in game decisions that I have lost all confidence in him as a HC. I would have preferred a known successful HC to hire before Bray.
It was all sold as a continuity move and somewhat a PR ploy to try and hold onto the fans and the players. Bray had plenty of support given his own results as DC but this wasn’t a slam dunk by any stretch. It was a hopeful exercise that of course has blown up in the face of Barnes and the proverbial Charlie Brown fans of OSU. Another dismal failure from our Administration leads to national embarrassment for the athletes again on national tv.
I wanted to see Bray be like Whittingham, but it seems like everything OSU touches is fool’s gold and amounts to more folly and ridicule. Bray will finish out the season of course. And I suspect he just resigns rather than continue in this mess. Barnes should be preparing for the inevitable one way or the other. I don’t think Barnes will want to fire Bray because it would be a bad look for Barnes. He will stay the course as long as Bray wants to coach. Barnes will make the argument that he has little alternative and has other things to focus on right now. And the certainty will be Mike Riley appearing around VFC after the Houston game for the back half of the season to “assist” Bray, coinciding with the easier portion of the schedule. Any success we see after Houston will be attributed to the steadying influence of good old Mike Riley, all setting up Riley 3.0 for the good of the program…and the end of my Beaver days I guess.
I was all in the Bray hire. Pumped when Barnes made the fire. I can admit when I’m wrong though.
He shouldn’t be fired in season. Nobody better to replace him. If things don’t get better by end of season. Sure let him go.
I will say that OSU should have backed up the brinks truck to pay for a couple top notch coordinators given Brays youth / experience. They offered Smith $6M+ to stay and then signed Bray for $2M. They could have found the money. Instead we got Gundy and Hayward….
I was always skeptical of KHJ, but I was willing to give Gundy a chance. The latter is gone.
The choice to retain him and others is on Bray.
The confusion on both sides of the ball is just weird to see. The opponents are playing football, and we’re just running around watching them play.
When did we get a Brinks truck?
Barnes must’ve thought it was around when he signed Tinkle to an extension that he can’t escape from. Barnes has his hands in a lot o f bad hires and I’m all for him catching the train back to PA sooner rather than later.
Barnes is the bad hire!
If it’s true they offered Smith significantly more than that means they have the money if they want someone bad enough.
UCLA is reportedly targeting Oregon Defensive Coordinator as their next HC and he is an excellent recruiter too. I doubt it happens but I hope it does.
That would be hilarious.
Please make it happen.
And then watch Oregon hire Bray to fill that vacant DC role
I don’t think it would be empty, if the rumors are about Lupoi. He’s one of those recruiting savants who only has the title he has because schools had to justify paying him more and more, so he wouldn’t get poached. They have a co-DC who actually runs things.
I think it’s both Co-DC who have been rumored as a possibility
One would be viable. The other is Lupoi.
Nikegon did the same with KHJ when they poached him. And the co-DC was Hoke, I believe.
“recruiting savants” meaning he got away with paying guys before it was legal…?
Probably.
Eddie Gran was another one who bounced around the SEC for years, getting promoted along the way. He wasn’t even a particularly good position coach, let alone when he finally petered out as an OC. But teams had to promote him to poach his recruiting genius.
Hahaha!!! I would be OK with Bray landing in a good spot as long as we hire a big name successful D1 coach.
Dylan Black and Exodus Ayers are both back on the depth chart this week.
They picked the wrong week to return
Difference makers, the spread down to 40
Depth chart this season hasn’t been very reliable.
Look, not saying I expect it happen, but frankly, our schedule was pretty front loaded this year. With Wazzu getting destroyed by North Texas, I’ve gotten a bit more hope.
There is a not insignificant chance that we could start the season 0-4 or 0-5 and then finish the season 6-6 or 7-5. Again not saying I expect it to happen, but there are definitely some winnable games left on the schedule after Houston
While technically true, it begs the question…Can an 0-5 team keep the fans interest? Or more to the point, the players interest?
Oram at the O “officially” calling for Brey to be fired.
https://archive.ph/o3Zc0
Ok, who is going to step in and replace him! Cavanaugh? How about the special teams coach? I think if we had a proven assistant coach, it would be easier. Can we get a two for one and fire Barnes as well before he gives Bray a 5 year extension for beating the point spread?
Sweaty Beaver my comments are directed to Oram. I know you’re just the messenger.
https://archive.ph/o3Zc0
Mike Riley of course.
https://archive.ph/o3Zc0
Beavs get a 4 star safety from Florida State. Apparently he was dismissed from the team for an altercation with a coach. I like it. Maybe we can get talent that is troubled and become an angry team of talented bad boys that make us wonder if they are going to make it to the season or end up in jail.
Conrad Hussey.
Hussey is a Beaver
Lots of Beavers are Hussies.
Talented bad boys? Thinkin’ Bray has Vontaze Burfict on speed dial……maybe he’s got nephews or bros.
@Angry are we not allowed to post archive links of Oregonian articles?
They asked not to share full articles. If it’s old, that might be okay. I’m not sure.
Apparently the Civil War is such an important rivalry game to keep scheduled, it got slotted on the Big10 network this week. The good news? Even if you tried to watch it, you won’t be able to find it.
I think we should go after more players with checkered histories. Because winning is more important than upholding the integrity of the program. Let’s get guys accused of assault in clubs. Guys getting pulled over and having guns and drugs in their car. 5 stars and back from behind bars!
Bray has to go. He’s been recruiting Bobby butt crack instead of real 4* + serious football players. First time in a long time I would say the beavs have no chance in a civil war. I am so embarrassed to go to work everyday with mostly dick fans!!! We need to get back to our roots, we need another Erickson to convince high talent/high risk players to buy in and love living in our sheep pasture in Corvallis. I hate the ducks, if they win I will eat a real beaver. Have two of them on my property even the USDA beaver czar couldn’t keep them out of my yard. I have several long guns and can get them from the porch! If anyone is in the market for a pelt lmk
Rueck gets commitment from Washington #4 player in the state, 5’9″ Ashley Uusitalo, in the class of 2026. She sounds like a solid 3 point shooter and averaged 17+ ppg, 5 rebounds, 4:<assists and 2 steals ppg fome Lakeshore HS, King Co 4A MVP and 4A all state 1st team. She sounds like quite a player and the Seattle area is a huge area for talent.
From Lakeshore HS
Lake Washington HS
My mistake and you are correct.
Scott just keeps rolling, lucky to have him for some hope between baseball seasons
https://youtu.be/LR8QJx0qIec?feature=shared
It looks like she’s got a little bit of Sabrina Ionescu in her range and is very good at driving and finishing and creating her own shot. She is going to be a very good player in Rueck’s system.
BTW, she plays at the 4A level which is the highest classification in Washington…

Name mentioned not ruined. Autocorrect, is more like Autodumba$$. How do you translate mentioned into ruined?
Did anybody notice the suggested related articles at the bottom of this story: “Oregon State’s demise is all the proof we need that Jonathon Smith is a good coach.” Brutal.
Totally inaccurate conclusion as we know the NIL, realignment and the portal killed OSU, WSU and other small market programs. In other words, traitor Smith would have stayed longer if not for realignment so really realignment was the driving force IMO.
Disagree with your premise: Smith was gonna leave sooner rather than later either way.
It might have been sped up by realignment but it’d obvious he always saw Corvallis as a stepping stone.
It was shortsighted, I bet if he’d stayed OSU could have thrived and that commercial they play during games would ring true but we will never know.
Like I said, he would have stayed longer had it not been realignment, NIL and the portal. I didn’t say how much longer bc not many coaches stay forever especially these days. .He was offered a decent raise to stay and the money was pretty darned good but he chose to leave bc of those three factors and realignment that resulted in losing the PAC’s P5 status was the driving force IMO. Minus those three factors, he doesn’t bolt bc there’.was no reason to.
He chose to leave because he got an offer. It is pure speculation to claim he’d have staying if not for realignment.
Speculation that doesn’t seem to match up with what we’ve learned about Smith.
He’d probably be being introduced as the UCLA coach this week if he had stayed.
Football, Murthey, and Barnes have left the building. I checked into the pu joe beaver show for 10 minutes – MP & JW – poor souls. I’ve never understood who is paying them for OSU coverage but the contract doesn’t seem to allow for negatives. They seem bewildered by IT and the network doesn’t seem to be paying attention. TJ left w no replacement. No money? In short, altho this rant isn’t short, we have sphinxes in authority and weak, outdated media representation.
Barnes just announced the civil war series will start up again in 2027. Glutton for punishment. If we need to play a money game can’t we find someone else to kick our ass
Let’s play them twice a year. It will make the football program so rich.
At this point I just assume that OSU athletics will always trip over itself. It makes it easier.
Wonder what Bowl 6-6 Pac-9 schools will get? Seems to be the goal. Big money.
Seems like Barnes is in denial about the status of Beav football. Hint: it’s not Power 4 any longer (it’s not even good Go6 currently). It’s not like Ohio St and Ohio University play every year, just once in a great while, like this season.
It’s quickly become the same thing in my estimation. Why give the Quacks the satisfaction? Piss them off and go play some other big Power 4 program for the paycheck.
Ohio St vs Ohio
Missouri vs Missouri St
Alabama vs Alabama St
Illinois vs Illinois St
Tennessee vs Tennessee St
Arkansas vs Arkansas St
Georgia vs Georgia St
Oregon vs Oregon St is about the same as these match-ups now and likely into the future. Barnes is a short-sighted administrator and this is the second mistake this month for money. He has already forfeited a home game for $3 mil to play BYU at a neutral sight with no return trip. He has been set-up by Oregon to lose another home game with them as well by skipping a year, but agreeing to resume with another game at Autzen.
So in 2027 we will begin with a neutral site against BYU along with a road game at Autzen. Barnes is either a fool or he knows how bad the media deal is and is searching for revenue through as many payday/bodybag type games as he can schedule. It won’t work but he isn’t bright enough to accept the situation. Beavs will be severely outclassed in both games, and the season will be lost by game 3 again. Fans will disappear and the stadium will be an even worse look once it only has about 10k fans in the lower bowl.
Sorry but the BYU game isn’t a mistake. That is a smart move for any program in OSU’s position and will not impact their ability to have 6 home games.
Agree!
Ridiculous.
When does Trent Bray get fired? After going 0-4 and losing by 60+ in the most embarrassing loss ever to oregon? After going 0-5 losing to Houston at home with less than 10,000 fans in the stadium? After going 0-6 losing to Appalachian State on the road? Or after going 0-7 losing to Wake Forest at home with 5,000 fans in the stadium? Thoughts?
I’d say Barnes won’t fire him. Barnes will let the football program become a dumpster fire all over again. We don’t have much say in it. The pattern is long established and we shouldn’t be surprised. If it was never a priority when we were actually part of a P5 conference, why should anyone think it will now be a priority in the current unstable world of college athletics. I’m sure there are a lot of faculty and old timer alums who are counseling to just move on from sports and return to research and academics as the sole focus for good old OSU.
I don’t know who they would get in the interim. Please – no Mike Riley. If they want to salvage the football program they need to hire a big name coach who has had success and will help with recruiting and bringing in a staff and schemes that will work.
That hire you want wouldn’t be the interim so that’s irrelevant. The interim is temporary till they find that guy.
0regon will be wearing a uniform solely designed to honor its corporate owner, Uncle Phil. Surprised they didn’t just put a giant swoosh on the side of the helmet. A groundbreaking gesture that goes far beyond their typical bad taste in uniforms.
That being said, for a couple billion dollars, I’d be down with a lime green and black nVidia kit.
“the shoe duck” uniform….gross. Shameless.
Hearing Duck fans talk it up today, never acknowledging the $$$ side of the program…one said all the Duck games are boring because they’re so good they blow everyone out by halftime….and you don’t see the problem in that?!?
Wait until TV viewer ship #s drop and companies stop paying millions of $$$ for advertising spots and the whole money making scheme implodes on itself. It might not happen soon but sooner or later it will.
As long as Phil Knight lives, 0regon gets a bottomless bucket. After his time, will Nike as a profit seeking corporation see the point in owning a college athletic department, at a significant loss each year.
It’s a think tank for Nike. Why not keeping trying random marketing tho fa to see what sticks? They will stay near the top as long as it’s open season on spending and offering NIL.
Why isn’t Oregon State selling Nvidia on this idea? It’s got a sports AI division.
We are. Rigjt now theyre collecting data on low energy/low output performances. It’s going about as well as can be
Interesting, Andy Jenkins announces he’s leaving USC baseball staff. And when I google his name I see him on the OSU baseball Coaching roster:
https://osubeavers.com/sports/baseball/roster/coaches/andy-jenkins/998
although that looks like it could be an old entry. I think he was on the 2018 staff?
About 42 hours (?) until kick off, and a 115 comments on the best Beaver sports site….hmmm…..apparently playing the “Civil War” in September against a team with $20M+ football roster salary isn’t so interesting…
Didn’t Anderson and Hass play pitch and catch in 56-20-something blowout once upon a time? But for a few slightly high throws, could have exceeded 60….days long gone..
DOES anyone give a shit about this game? I’ve seen some social media from players trying to say they’re excited about the rivalry, bullshit. No one cares about this game anymore. yuck fans will gloat and try to talk shit but honestly I could give two shits. They are just another semi pro team at this point if they don’t win by 40 they should be embarrassed.
I will never attend or watch this game on TV, never. As far as I am concerned this is a bye week for OSU. This game doesn’t even exist in my world.
Meanwhile we have Wilner explaining why OSU “must play” this game behind a paywall today, anyone read his reasoning?
You can read Wilner’s thoughts here:
Different title but same content.

Pretty much a morbid curiosity to see how badly the beat down will be and if Lanning shows any mercy at all.
I don’t actually mind Lanning too much and I wouldn’t be upset if they tried to score 100 on the Beavs just as a way to completely startle Barnes into reality of the situation. The Ducks will have multiple long TD runs since no one in front of our safeties can make a tackle. Since our special teams are so horrific, they will have either short fields or blocked punts/punt returns for a TD at least once. Our Qb throws interceptions like parade candy so it is likely we see at least one pick6 as well. I’d spot the ducks at least 49 points just based on those factors before they even try to play defense against our offense. We know the
Beavs defense won’t slow them down.
Unfortunately:
Nike 84
Beavs 6
All time best down and Beavernation won’t even care.
I’m just spit-balling a bit here and taking about 2 wasted hours to do some simple research for us all. Now we can be prepared for Barnes to screw it all up again in a few months. He will spend a foolish amount of money when he doesn’t have to for a search committee to find a poor choice eventually. But I have my own ideas of what might be possible, and I’ll post this for future reference.
Here is the list of retreads I expect to hear floated once Bray resigns in December after a 2-10 disaster:
Mike Riley
Mark Banker
Brady Hoke
Jeff Tedford
Mack Brown
(All disastrous choices by the way)
Angry called for an outside the box hire years ago, along the lines of a D3 coach who was relatively unknown, but very successful. That guy was Lance Leipold, now the head coach at Kansas. I think the program builder or proven winner has to be the direction and it must come from somewhere beyond OSU’s historical coaches tree. You have long established football powerhouses in lower divisions that consistently produce winning teams and coaches who move on to bigger opportunities. You look either in the midwest (Mount Union/D3) or upper plains (NDSU/SDSU) for those coaching types who are hard nosed and scheme sound because they have to be. Another option is to try to go into the Texas/south and find a hotshot (Spavital etc) who has connections and knows offense similar to Leach. Find that guy and get him early in his career, or give the established guy (Holgorson etc) who knows all of those schools and has innumerable connections to Texas high school football. In a similar vein, here is a list of coaches who have recently brought entire staffs into power conference schools and are having success:
NDSU-Matt Entz to Fresno St
James Madison- Curt Cignetti to Indiana
NDSU- Chris Kileman to Kansas St
SDSU- Jimmy Rogers to Washington St
Names i would rather hope to hear if Barnes has any sense. Some proven winners, some needing another chance, some up and coming, but most importantly all out of different coaching trees than the standard OSU family:
Bryan Harsin, OC at Cal currently
Brett Vigen, HC at Montana St currently
Geoff Dart- current HC at Mount Union, Ohio
Brad Spencer- current HC at North Central College
Tom Herman- currently unemployed/fired from Florida Atlantic last year
Mike Houston-formerly James Madison national champ, fired from East Carolina last year, currently a volunteer on staff at Clemson
Brian Bohannon- former Kennesaw St coach, now an on Ga Tech staff as offensive assistant- (He built a successful program from scratch)
Neal Brown- formerly West Virginia HC
Dana Holgorsen- currently OC at Nebraska, formerly HC at West VIrginia and Houston
Jimbo Fisher- currently unemployed
Jake Spavital- current OC at Baylor, previously at Cal
Thank you. You’ve already put more thought and effort into this than OSU will…
Amazing work, but wouldn’t all of them read the tea leaves of our new reality?
Sure but we need to accept the fact that OSU will now be a career stepping stone or a career redemption path for anyone coming to Corvallis. Be willing to pitch it that way and take a shot at any of these guys. They all have experience as head coaches or high level assistants. I will state from personal experience that Willamette Valley has a strong resemblance to any Ohio town and those guys from the Midwest would not be opposed to giving it a shot if the administration could at least present a competent approach towards wanting to win.
I bet Tom Herman would take a chance if only to have another shot as a head coach out of the spotlight for a few seasons.
It doesn’t really matter though because Barnes will mess it up and go the safest route possible and only compound the problems.
Rolovich is a hell of a coach.
After the the history, can you imagine Rolo ever coming to OSU, that would be bonkers
Everything about it would be great. Talk about igniting a rivalry with WSU!
I would add Bob Stitt from Colorado school of the mines. An offensive guru in the Chip Kelly and Mike Leach mold. His version of the air raid/west coast offense scores 70 points a game and averages 500 yards of total offense. I has always thought we need to beat more talented teams with scheme like Leach used to do to us. Might as well roll the dice
That’s exactly the path we need to take.
I will not stand for this slander and move on mentality from one of the greatest players and humans in Beaver history! Bray is my guy, Bray is your guy. He perfectly captures what it means to be in the Oregon State close family. He just needs some time and stability and get his guys in there. He recruited one of the best quarterbacks in the country from Duke. Give him time he will be Lamar Jackson 2.0 under Bray’s expert guidance. When they shock the world on Saturday I will have my wife make humble pies for all you doubters!
Haha, very nicely done. You forgot to include how great
Mike Riley’s role in Brays life has been. No need to go looking elsewhere, be careful what
You wish for, no one knows Corvallis like…, tough place to recruit to, family program blah blah blah.
In reality none of these comments will matter because the certainty is that Barnes and the admin will never consider anything innovative or risky. Always safety in the MR comfort zone of the past.
Even when there is literally nothing to lose to take a huge risk and swing for the fence with a new hire, they won’t do it. So I make my observations, post another comment and realize I’m little more than Don Quixote charging windmills… the life of a Beaver fan.
Thanks OhioBeav! I like it! Prefer a big name couch to give him/us some clout in recruiting.
Not sure if anybody here listens to the Beligerant Beavs podcast. Today’s episod has alot of speculation around the athletic department’s recent decision to allow an outside entity run our NIL fund at OSU and connects some of the dots behind who was hired and the nepotism that appears to be going on behind the scenes, plus the general idea that our NIL money is handled by some outside entity with conflicted interests since they also run some 20 other schools funds as well.

Over at OregonLive, they’re doing the Beavers All “Quarter Century” Teams…the best of 2000-2025 by reader votes…Jonathan Smith, who took the Beavers as high as #17 (AP) at the end of the 2022 season, and as high as #11 before losing 22-20 to UW, is third team head coach with about 7% of votes, Dennis Erickson, who finished as high as #4 is the Second Team Head Coach with about 40% of votes…
James Newson was 2nd Team, receiving less than 2% of the votes, so that says something about participation….
NVIDIA puts $5B (B!) into Intel:
“Money is helpful, and having Jensen’s blessing is priceless,” Bernstein Research analyst Stacy Rasgon wrote in a note to clients. Huang grew up in Aloha and graduated from Oregon State University, though he now lives near Nvidia’s headquarters in Silicon Valley.”
What are the odds that OSU has a false start, fumble/bad snap or delay of game on the first play from scrimmage? It has happened in all 3 games so far right?
How many punts get blocked? maybe 2
How many pick 6’s? at least 1
How many 50+ TD runs by the ducks? probably 4
How many horrible plays will happen on special teams this week? at least 5
I’m interested in how badly the Beavs look because they certainly aren’t improving week to week. The spiral is in full effect and I wonder how much worse it can get. This weekend will be a debacle and Barnes should be on the hook for going along with it. Is it worth it for $2mil or whatever the payout is? I don’t think it will ever be worth it when it is so unbalanced and we knew it would be.
What is the over/under on false starts?
Players saying they can do it in practice, and maybe just get nervous in games…really, peeing down your own leg because there’s an actual opponent across the line? WTF. How does one reconcile this with Bray’s emphasis on aggressiveness and “everything with violence!”
Reconcile it with Bray? How about that living OL idol, Mike Cavanaugh?
28-0 in the 1st 10 minutes, 49-0 halftime, 62-3 end of 3rd, final 72-10.
I think any talk of firing Bray at this point is ridiculous given the situation he started with. I think you have to give him until the end of the first month of next season at minimum. Special team is really the big killer here. These are easier things to remedy. Not to mention, there’s zero quality replacement options for Bray. Our schedule is quite front loaded this year. Cal is looking like they might make a run to the ACC title game, Oregon is Oregon, Texas Tech has one of the most expensive NIL rosters in the country. I’ll admit, the Fresno State loss was bad, but looking at the teams left, it wouldn’t be crazy for this team to finish 6-6 or 7-5. If we end up losing to teams like Sam Houston, App State, etc, then we can give Bray a very hot seat, but I still see wins on the schedule.
Am I crazy?
Yes
He should have never been hired in the first place; when we needed someone with coaching experience, someone who had actually been a coach, the administration/search committee went with the quickest, most expedient hire they could make. I like Bray and loved him as a player, but at this point in his career, he shouldn’t be the head coach of a D1 program, sideline demeanor notwithstanding. He needs some time to work his way up through the coaching ranks. This position really shouldn’t be learned OTJ.
2-10 looks extremely real this year, maybe even worse. There has been no improvement from game 1 to game 2 or from game 2 to 3. I’m still debating about even going anywhere near the TV at noon tomorrow, but most likely will, much like being drawn to a traffic accident.
This administration needs to nut-up and make a decent hire if they ever want that Reser stadium to be used for something other than a weekly Benton County swap meet, I don’t want them to extend his contract at the end of the year. This experiment should be over.
Yep, agree.
Yes. We don’t have luxury of waiting that long. If Bray wins the last 5 or 6 games to end the season and the showing significant improvement, he has earned the opportunity to stay on, but will need to make some staff changes.
Wilner argues OSU has no choice but to continue to play UO:
“…ending the rivalry would be pretty close to the worst move Oregon State could make during this tumultuous stretch.
The shifting landscape of college sports could very well leave the Beavers without the option to lure teams from the power conferences to Corvallis. It’s not Oregon-or-bust quite yet, but that point is fast approaching.
The SEC recently agreed to add a ninth conference game but kept in place the requirement to play a total of 10 games against Power Four schools, meaning each team has only two spots available for non-conference opponents outside the ACC, Big 12 and Big Ten.
The likelihood any SEC team would be willing to travel to Corvallis? Close to zero. Don’t be surprised if Mississippi cancels its series with the Beavers (in 2027 and 2030), just as Florida reportedly has canceled its series with Arizona State and Alabama reached a mutual agreement with West Virginia to cancel their two-game tango.
Would Big Ten teams not named Oregon venture to Corvallis? Unlikely. They don’t want to risk the loss or deal with the travel, and many lack openings on the schedule.”
I’d rather never have a P4 opponent come to Corvallis than continue to play Oregon. But I also don’t believe he is correct here anyway.
My question is, can college programs hold on simply by taking money in to get pummeled by teams with large NILs? Sure, it sounds good to take a good payday and possibly upset a team, but is that a sustainable model to keep a football program around? Maybe teams like the Beavs have plenty of money to fund football programs but I only see attendance declining and therefore sponsorship, game day sales, merchandise, tailgating spots, etc declining as well and then there’s the whole idea of having to pay off the new part of the stadium. So yeah, I guess at this point you say yes to being the whipping boy but I won’t be watching it.
See, I think OSU is missing a golden opportunity to fill Reser and become more relevant nationally than they’ve ever been. If they consistently win 10+ games and win PAC titles the stadium will be full no matter who they play. And they will make the CFP on a semi-regular basis.
This should be seen as an opportunity but they instead seem to have already decided the program is dead. Which is frustrating.
Who cares what Wilner says. I’ve never thought much about his opinions which I have mostly disagreed with. Here’s another one. If you build a winning program they will come. Why get killed by Oregon and other P4 teams at this particular time. It certainly doesn’t benefit the Beavers. We need a proven winner coach, preferably big name, to build the program back up and consistently win and challenge for conference championships, which amazingly will attract fans, the media and eventually P4 teams.
Yeah, I don’t get Wilner’s argument that having a P-4 team come to Corvallis is so important. That ship sailed away quickly. Is Reser going to be packed with Beav fans when the Quacks pound them ad nauseam through the upcoming years? I’m not opposed to OSU going to Eugene every five or six years to get a bag, but otherwise, I don’t see it. Utah/Utah St is another example. They used to play almost every year, but now just once in a while. It’s just the new reality. Seems like the sportswriters of all people don’t want to accept it.
It’s just a bad argument. I really don’t get how so many people can make it so complicated.
Winning will fill Reser
Winning will make them nationally relevant
Dennis Erickson understood this.
Another example is Colorado/Colorado State. They don’t play every year either. My paranoid self is starting to think Disney is paying off the West Coast media to push for the continuation of the Civil War so the Quacks have an easy W every year! I don’t get the hand-wringing.
https://www.kerryeggers.com/stories/now-is-not-the-time-to-decide-whether-bray-stays-or-goes
Eggers lists a few of Bray’s mistakes in this piece where he says ya gotta give Bray the whole season.
I read the article too and thought that, like other writers, Eggers ignores that this trend started last season. I don’t care whether Bray is fired now or at the end of the season, but the signs that he was in over his head started much earlier than these first three games.
An objective analysis of the Beavs situation. When money becomes an issue, it quickly becomes the only issue. I don’t care if you keep or replace Bray and Barnes. Absent somehow greatly increasing OSU’s NIL money, the dye is cast. I see no chance of greatly increasing the NIL money. So this year will end as a complete disaster, and so will all future years without a serious OSU reality check. The only hope to have a “respectable” season (i.e. 6-6, 7-5, 8-4) will be to schedule FCS teams in a similar financial position or FBS teams. Schedule down to the level of competition OSU actually has a chance to compete with. No more P-4 teams period, and that includes cancelling all future games with the quackers.
I won’t be watching Saturday’s game, and quite possibly any more this season, either in person or on TV. Pretty soon, they won’t be able to give away tickets to Reser. I concur. U of money 77, OSU 7
It is surprising to me that OSU can’t Huang and Chang won’t contribute along with Reser family, but they are sharp business people (Chang uses analytics!) and know ncaa football is not an investment. Knight is so desperate for a national championship he doesn’t care about pissing the money away…someday he’ll stand in a crowded locker room with Lanning and a bunch of free agents and celebrate being a winner.
“…can’t get Huang and Chang to contribute….”
OOPS. Meant “schedule FBS teams in a similar financial position or FCS teams.”
The Fall baseball roster is out. Pitching looks to be very solid, but position players are more of an unknown with the loss of most starters and so many transfers coming in. Side note: FR LHP Trey Morris coming in at 6’2″ 258 LBS.
https://osubeavers.com/sports/baseball/roster
If any of you go to the Fall game in Bend I’ll be working it, come say hi.
Wilmer and Barnes are both fools for insisting on the Civil War.
It is obvious that the decks are going to be cleared by 2032 realignment and Big10/SEC inter conference schedules will be their way of cutting out the rest.
If Oregon makes the cut and stays in the chosen schools in the big brand league, they won’t be allowed to schedule with OSU anyway. This 5 or so years is going to set up their 32 team super league. All non performing schools will be jettisoned from each league and those that remain will play within the brands in a pseudo-NFL structure.
None of it matters anymore. It was fun and frustrating while it lasted. OSU needs to recalibrate towards breaking from the passive 70 years of mediocre and actually try to set up a winning program leading into the next iteration. But we know they will only be reactive and bad at that as well.
Yep, I’ve saying the same thing about a “super league” that will be similar to a mini NFL that will consist of the blue bloods. Follow the money. Will pretty end college football that we grew up with.
Tulsa over OkSU… gulp!
Yeah, at home with chants of “Fire Gundy!” Their first loss to Tulsa since 1951.
I wonder if WSU (2-1) will at least compete with UW while OSU gets blown out by Oregon…WSU is 20.5 underdogs, and have the Fuskies in Pullman for the first time in three years. Cougs won last year at UW with Mateer et al.
UW probably just hast too much offense. This will be the first time beer and wine will be sold at WSU’s stadium, so the crowd should be extra energized….
Yeah, I think Gundy’s days are numbered.
The effects of losing your financial backer.
T Boone pickens passed a few years ago amd OKState is already in a similar spot as OSU, even with larger media deal.
Programs without that endless stream of income are going to fail. It’s a broken system.
Is that what happened to Okie State?
Interesting (sort of). I’m surprised Pickens didn’t do some kine of large endowment to sustain them. I expect Knight will do something like that for Oregon before he dies.
Good Lord! Are we down to Lafayette as the only lock this season?
Watching Texas Tech vs. Utah and it is sickening how the announcers openly talk about TT getting a bag of money and buying players like it is a great thing. I have always loved college football because of the fans being so into their school and the tradition but it just is sickening now that it has nothing to do with anything but money now.
You got that right, Bill. Additionally, for me, it has always been fun to watch the development of players over 3-4 years, money has pretty much ruined that aspect as well.
Only caught bits and pieces of the game but TT is pretty good. Utah could be really good if they had a qb. Missing a lot of throws.
Are Pomee’e and Ayer’s playing today? Might as well get everyone out there…
Go Beavers!
Show them what ‘try’ and sportsmanship are all about!!!
According to the Beavers X page, the Beavers are “locked in.”
However, they didn’t show the team’s vocal response when some assistant coach “pumping them up” said “Beavs on 3!”
Bringing their A game?
:::golf clap:::
We are now entering the denial phase for the athletic department. Don’t acknowledge reality and just act like we are still in a bygone era. As if everybody is really on board and believing any of the drivel they are pushing. It will get worse. Listening to Big Jim, I almost wonder how long he is willing to keep towing the company line of feigned optimism.
Who is his employer?
And now that the butt kicking has started……
Predictable, obvious start. Clueless defense, boring offense. 7-0 Quacks 3 minutes in.
Soon to be 14-zippo
They should award points for OSU defense getting a turnover on downs.
Hey, 4th down stop. Pretty disrespectful of Lanning, so nice to see. Whether it has any long-term impact on the game.
College football ratings cannot be good.
When those eyeball #s decline, corporate America will stop paying millions of $ for advertising spots.
It is a bit harder to follow in the portal era. We used to be able to watch, and grow to love players like Ryan Nall or Mike Hass over a four year period.
Now… easy come, easy go.
WBB, one of only 22 in the country to not lose anyone to the portal since last season. Per Rueck on halftime radio.
Huh, there goes my 28-0 1st quarter prediction
Very nice drive. Now the hopes return only to be dashed in short order.
7-7 and our Beavs have some life.
Gundy knows Moore from UCLA, Cavanaugh knows the UO playbook…you think at least schematically OSU could put up a proper D game plan, even if they lack the talent?
Big 3rd down if Beavs can force a punt.
I thought when Wells fell on his butt at the one yard line, it was going to be a sure “luck o’ the Beavs” moment. Nice that they proved me wrong!
Giving up cheap runs? What a douche!
Nice punt coverage so now get some stops or a turnover!
Wow. Is this what competency looks like?
Secondary let them down. Run D has been pretty good. Is turning and looking for the ball not a technique anymore?
Defense still playing much better but Dante Moore is throwing some darts against some pretty decent coverage except on that td pass.
They don’t have to score, but they can’t let the Ducks have the ball back before the half.
Having Strand back seems to be helping the OL. Is Voltin back yet?
What little I’ve of their QB Murphy, I’m not impressed. Granted the O line is not the best but not very accurate and thought he’d run more. I say put in Johnson. Give him some reps and see what he’s got.
I’m kind of ready for the Guthridge era to begin honestly. MM is an int machine, no thanks I’ve seen enough of him. Johnson is too one dimensional and more like a shooting point guard who calls his own name too much.
I think Guthridge is worth trying after this game…
Not familiar with Guthridge, but yeah put him in and lets see what he can do. Not impressed with Murphy.
I think a quick score is coming 21-7 halftime.
Terrible decision by Murphy. Walker was wide open for the first down. The replay showed Walker throwing up his arms like WTF. Now the Quacks are going to go into hyperdrive and score before half. Remember, last year was still a one-score game at halftime, also.
How are Hank and Allah looking?
Any contributions from TEs, blocking or receiving?
A couple of holes here and there for the RBs. No contributions from the TEs, unless you count a false start by Caulfield. Murphy’s been up and down. Moore is picking the secondary apart.
Now we begin the narrative of moral victories and attempting to revive the hopes of Beaver fans. Reboot MR 2.0 propaganda machine: “Gosh I really like how we are competing…” while down 21-7
Murphy needs to sit. Missing receivers and will not run.
This is when it gets ugly.
So Dabo Swinneyu will probably be available after this season. Maybe Barnes needs to reach out to him now and plant the seeds of moving to Corvallis with his staff.
Pipe dream. As in- put the pipe down.
DJU=MM
I’ve seen enough. I’m out as it is going to get brutal now.
Another SpTm failure, letting the punter go for 21 yds. Who is QC for SpTm?………oh yeah, Akey’s kid.
To be fair, who’d a thought that if you left a huge gap in the side of the field which the rugby style punter slants to, he’d run through for 21 yards?
Murphy is horrible. He is afraid and wont look to secondary receivers.
Murphy has zero moxie and is worse than DJ or DA on a bad day. I’ve seen enough of him, definitely wasted $1.5 mil on him. It almost looks like he has money on the ducks.
What was the return if someone theoretically wagered, say 1.2 mil on the ducks?
How many OL and/or DL could be bought for that 1.5?
Well that’s where every penny of whatever NIL we have needs to go.
Well, it was surprisingly watchable for almost a half. Murphy has definitely not risen to the challenge. Looked like Hankerson gave him a WFT look on that shitty screen pass that would have popped if it hadn’t been thrown to his shoe tops.
just kinda funny how blow outs happen.. miraculously only down 21-7 start of 3Q and Murphy coulda ran on 3rd and 4 and didnt and incomplete… then Bray punts???????? LOL funny jokes
Woke up from a short nap to see the Huskers complete a hail mary to end the first half and tie the game.
Decent lane discipline by Beavs on that punt near end of 3rd qtr.
Wow! So THAT’S what were hanging our hats on?
Gotta recognize glass half full in any area with this squad, particularly on SpTms. Hey, maybe Akey’s kid isn’t so bad after all……NOPE
Waiting to watch my Mizzou Tigers play S Carolina. Very good offense and a good defense. Should be fun! At dump called Columbia MO.!!!
Fuck, in the offseason Murphy said he was looking forward to this game? Missing open receivers?!?
Hank too.
Any GJ time yet?
Hopefully, MM declares after this game and sits out the rest of the season.
Fingers crossed
Legs, eyes, toes, nuts and anything I can cross. If he doesn’t transfer, show him the bench and let JJ and Guthridge get their shot.
crossed nuts?……..spit out my coffee, thanks for the humor!
If you got em cross em
Beavers got a sack! Whoooo! Second of the season?
Betting line crazy accurate…
Well, if Murphy declares RS and hits portal, maybe give Gutteridge a shot with the remaining 8 games, GJ for special packages?
Passing today:
MM: 5/18 (2 drops)
JG: 2/4 (1 drop)
Penalties today: Beavs 2/10, nike 5/40
Sacks allowed: Beavs ZERO, nike one
Beavs allowed Moore to rush for 53yds (avg 7.6), an area that will be tested next Friday.
Not expecting eight W’s to come, but we are seeing less “shoot yourself in the foot” stuff as time goes.
So was the offense not making plays when they had a chance? Sounds like Murphy was inaccurate, immobile…
Or was the defense taking things away?
MM was the big factor; hesitant to run and inaccurate when passing.
SpTm fail giving up 21 on nike fake punt was the single biggest avoidable mistake.
The game was a beat down. Score could have been worse and surprised it wasn’t. Ducks had 305 passing and 280 rushing. Beavs had a total of 147. Like a cat playing with a mouse!
When did Lanning pull his #1’s? Seems like it was late in the 4th; I’m not so sure it really could have been very much worse. It’s not as if Dante Moore was pulled to give the backup experience, same goes for defensive heavyweights. Pretty sure the ucks image was hurt by their game last week with Northwestern; good reason for them to pour it on today.
As noted by another commenter below, ucks aren’t as good as we thought. They didn’t look like #6 to me.
The best thing about this game is that the fighting Phil’s aren’t as good as we thought.
The best thing about this game is that the fighting Phil’s aren’t as good as we thought.
The best thing about this game is that the fighting Phil’s aren’t as good as we thought.
I am looking at this team. Our offensive line is not great. We have a super athletic QB and good RBs. I don’t see any reason not to go to a read option offense w/ RPOs mixed in and Gabarri at the helm. Murphy is clearly not the guy. I don’t know what it is. He has looked quite good at times and quite awful at others. I mean we are 0-4 but our toughest games are behind us. And the back half of our schedule is kind of a joke. I know it looks awful right now. But I think we could win the last 8 games if we continue to sew things up.
MM=DJU
I mean looking back. Cal is 3-0 (very likely to be 4-0 at SDSU), Fresno State is 3-1, Texas Tech just stomped Utah at Utah to go 4-0. And Oregon is 4-0. We have had a tough schedule to start.
Yeah, I was thinking about that same thing. They have played some tough teams.
Pundits are already wondering if CAL will be able to pay their QB enough to retain him…
I’m with you. Cal will be a top 25 team finishing the year and TT is top ten or possibly top 5. Dooks are a deuce trying to appropriate other teams colors. Fresno st is a winnable game if special teams does its job. Same with the others besides UH. But others are right about billionaire-backed teams running away from the rest.
Please share your drugs with the rest of us
You don’t think that’s reasonable? Fresno State is probably the most comparable to the best teams remaining and we really should have won that game. We play Sam Houston State for goodness sake. And Washington State looks worse than us.
I think it would be reasonable if they hadn’t looked like keystone cops for most of the first 3 games and totally unprepared to compete. I’ll also say that Lanning wasn’t ever really in doubt about whether the ducks would/could win that game. He had no need to open the playbook beyond back shoulder throws and off tackle running. It was still a 30 pt beat-down which in any other year is not ok. But given how bad OSU has looked and how good Nike has looked, we somehow rationalize that the Beavs are improving and the ducks aren’t as good as we fear.
This was Dante Moore’s 9th career start and he looked liek a seasoned vet, meanwhile MM has 2 times as many starts and looked like hot garbage.
Beavs will be lucky to rally and win 4 out of the next 8. I don’t think it is possible honestly, and I was pretty optimistic going into the season. But I’m cured of the optimism. Bray is struggling to lead, Murphy is another big money NIL miss and the Beavs need to find a lot of answers in a short amount of time. The running game is bad, no passing at all with Murphy, horrible special teams, bad against the run, undersized/inexperienced corners getting torched every game, linebackers are invisible.
Usually agree with you 100%, but a couple responses for your consideration:
-it’s key that the keystone cops episodes didn’t reappear today (maybe Cavanaugh is getting through to his group).
-Lanning didn’t need to open the playbook, very true but I note his guys were penalized 5 times today after only 9 times in the previous 3 games. That’s not what I’d expect from a #6 team at home and running vanilla offense.
-Can’t disagree with your comparison of the QB’s
-You say “lucky to win 4” and flop says, “could win the last 8 games if we continue to sew things up.” I’m in between.
And, surprise, I didn’t get the sense that Bray has lost the locker room.
Hahaha!!!!
WSU just scored to make it 24-17 WA
“Punter AJ Winsor — finally able to get some kicks off with OSU’s long snapping issue mitigated — set a school record for punting yards with 427. So, there’s that.”
Sonuvabitch! Impressive! Over 53 yards per punt!
Will he get poached in off season?
yea i noticed he seems good
Lanning after Kirk’s death….world could learn from their locker room:
“”Life matters. I think we’ve lost sight of that, but I wish the world could learn a little bit of something from our locker room because we’ve got a bunch of people with differences and what you’ve got is a bunch of people with love there.”
A 30-something coach making $9M(?) per year with a locker room of one of the highest paid rosters in the country says the world could learn from them…sound kinda pretentious and shallow.
Lanning has become a blowhard. I thought it was a stretch when he went after Gundy for the money comment, too. Probably looking for ways to keep the team motivated while he tries to win that elusive national title for Knight.
Quacks are still in here? Makes sense, vultures circling the carcass.
I’ve been watching Wazzu-UW off and on and seeing Noga made me think of his high school teammate, Sam Vidlak. I looked into his whereabouts and it turns out he’s the starting QB for Stephen F. Austin going back to last season. One of his backups (JT Kitna) is also Jon Kitna’s son.
3-0 MSU takes on 3-0 USC in a meteor game at 8 pm…
I think there’s some mental health issues going on with some of Beaver Nation. We got creamed today. 147 yds vs nearly 600. With how the ducks offense played, they should’ve beaten us by more than 34. I mean, 34 is an ass kicking and yet I see people celebrating this as a win. Lol. Others are now saying we would smash Houston if we played like this next week. Reality is, this is not a good football team. It’s not even a decent team. We’ve been outscored by over 100pts these 4 games. Sure, we’ve had some tough teams to play, but we’ve looked really bad in all of them. Houston is a P4 team and will once again have the edge in the trenches and I dont see us being able to effectively run the ball. I dont know what to make of Murphy. He seems like DJU. Has a cannon of an arm and can make some great throws, but has the accuracy of Wildthing without his glasses.
On the positive side, we actually executed some punts today. Special Teams is still not a good unit, but I guess it’s just marginally bad now vs the laughing stock it was a few weeks ago. It was encouraging to see that the team hasnt quite given up yet. Will be interesting to see what its like after Houston. I’m chalking that up as a loss. I don’t think it’ll be a blow out, but I could see it being like Cal where we lose respectfully but are never actually anywhere in the game. I think the gap is too high for our OL/DL to be effective vs even lower tier P4 trench guys. I believe to win vs most everyone left in the remaining 8 games it will take mistake free football and we haven’t done that yet. Lafayette and Sam Houston should be wins. I could see us going 1-1 with the Cougs. I do think they’re better coached than we are, but we should have a slight talent advantage over them.
I don’t disagree with you. I will say though the teams the Beavs have lost to have pretty good records so far. We are still figuring out if any losses so far are bad losses. With that being said, the miscues in the losses don’t make me think this is a good team losing to better teams.
This did not age well with cal losing
UW wins by 35…
#17 Indiana over #8 Illinois 63-10…
Texas over Sam Houston 55-10…
Lotsa blowouts.
Why I prefer the NFL.
Indiana may give Nike a pretty good challenge.
Sadly, blowouts are becoming more common. The haves vs have nots just doesnt have the same appeal as watching teams with some parity.
4th week in a row where I’ve seen less than one quarter of college football all day. And every one of those quarters have been nearly unwatchable.
Indiana is another program that shows what great coaching can do for you. Now, we just need to find that guy. Not confidence in Barnes making that happen.
More bad Beaver news…
Oregon State, Minot St and Bemidji St are now a combined 0-12 on the season. Beavers everywhere are really getting pounded this fall.
Watching MSU vs USC. So glad Lindgren and JS are gone. They had a nice drive inside the 30, then tried to get cute, killed their own momentum and ended up kicking a fg inside the red zone. Enjoy that nonsense Sparty.
Gonna start the second half in LA around 10:30………but, but there’s TV,
college FB ruined by TV$
Absurd.
So much sports programming “content.”
And one sees a lot if empty seats in many stadiums.
SDST 27-0 over cal still in the 3rd quarter…Cal QB just threw a 97 pick six…
He just threw another pick. World beater against the Beavs, looks completely lost against SDSU.
Scoop six for SDST before that pick 6, still shows Cal may not be as good as some here thought. Bad news.
I think he’s thrown 3 picks
34-0 4 minutes left.
Downvoting a score? Apparently, the “serial downvoter” is back.
Traitor Smith and MSU down 24-10 and the pudgy little midget looks perplexed on the sidelines.
31-10, 11 minutes left in the 3rd. Suck it big time traitor Smith!
I don’t blame him for leaving the dumpster fire. He just should have done it more gracefully. OSU is lethargic at the top and I don’t see that changing.
Didn’t watch one iota today. Saw the final score and was shocked it wasn’t worse.
Cal getting boat raced by SDSU. Anyone that thinks this dumpster fire has 2 wins in them is delusional as fuck.
College football is dead to me.
Enjoy your fall Saturdays doing other things like ive been doing.
Unless its beaver baseball? I no longer give a fuck.
Hahaha!!! Whiskey, don’t beat around the bush, tell us how you really feel!
That SDSU win over Cal should be concerning on multiple levels. Cal clearly not as good as they appeared early on so that loss could end up being one that maybe should’ve been a win with a remotely competent team. Secondly, we are so far behind many of the P12 schools in football it’s not even funny. BSU, Fresno state, SDSU, USU and Texas State all appear to be ahead of the beavs with less resources. I haven’t watched Col State so can’t comment on them. It really demonstrates how bad our coaching is for is to have more resources, “more talented” rosters but yet be so far behind the curve.
Yeah, I agree. Pretty sad. On a positive note, I think it can be turned around quickly with competent coaching.
