Sorry for the late post. I had a 10 day illness via the airport and just got over it.
Glad you’re doing better. The nice thing about OSU apathy is nobody notices if a post is late anymore.
Haha.
Carrying this forward from the last thread.
Assistant coach Will Heck(our current TE coach, I had to look it up) tweeted that we have a new Beaver Lock last night.
Which is weird because it was a Jonathan Smith thing, and also, who tf is signing up to come to OSU at this point in time for football?
https://x.com/CoachHeck55/status/1986643795711303929?t=EgKfnZySh4Xie369fP9fyA&s=19
Maybe Smith is the lock. Ok, let’s see the comments now.
I think we’ve milked that joke to death.
Agree! Let’s fast forward to Thanksgiving and find out who the coach is going to be.
Landon Cook, TE from De La Salle HS
I didn’t see the post below before posting on Landon Cook.
Bronze!
Why on earth would a kid commit to OSU right now?? He must know the entire coaching staff is going to be gone. The new staff might not honor the commitment either. My guess is he’s not getting any other offers at all and doesn’t want to go to Portland Community College. Or he just committed to boost his stock to get noticed more.
Could be a legacy, like Hatcher and Jackson. Or the coaching hire is done, and this kid knows who it is.
Most likely the former.
I mean it’s just a commitment, it’s not like you are actually committing to anything.
Commitment is TE/LB Landon Cook from DeLaSalle
I guess it shows current staff some loyalty so if they move elsewhere it could mean a future offer/option.

Posted in the last thread, have two tickets for Saturday if anyone is interested in watching the Beavs knock the snot out of some glorified HS team
Everyone is holding out until you offer cash along with those tickets before they bite. Crickets…
If it was University of Sam Houston I might consider it…..
I mean… sure. I’ll take ’em.
Hey Schweaty, if you actually want those tickets send me your email I’ll shoot them over to you
What if it was Davy Crockett or James Bowie State University?
And why is Sam Houston State the Bearkats, with a ‘k’ and how do they differ from Bearcats with a ‘c’??
Huntsville is in the Pine Curtain, which was (still sort of is) a haven for people who liked k… specifically three of them.
Interesting NIL deals in this article. I did not realize the Duke qb got an 8 mil NIL deal.

They so badly wanted off MM, they overpaid his replacement
https://www.azfamily.com/2025/11/07/ncaa-revokes-eligibility-ex-asu-basketball-player-amid-sports-betting-probe/# Opps
Sounds like a stud. #132 tight end in the country. Another big 3*
Beavers moved up to #126 in the country…. they were 131 before the win streak, so looking like a good match.

WBB tops Corban 86-45.
Top scorer/reb for the good gals was freshman Spaniard Lara Alonso with 14 pts and 11 rebs in 25 minutes; she shot just 33% from the field but was 5/6 from the line.
Looks like one to watch this season.
I watched the game and it’s too bad Cat is out for the year as this team is solid but a player like Cat could put them in the top 15 or so. The beavers appear to have quality depth and great length with pretty skilled players. Downside is still Shuler who still can’t hit FTs but certainly finishes strong on her drives.
Williamson, Vecina, Villa and Schimel all looked very good but Vecina really stood out in my mind. Plus, Sow really adds some defensive presence with her size in the middle.
Civil War Rugby tomorrow in Eugene. Hopefully, McKalk Jr and the boys can come away with a win. I’m hearing that they have already qualified for the NCR playoffs and will be heading to Denver in a couple of weeks.
Good luck to your son! Hopefully the ream will be flying private.
Thanks! Charter flight? That’s funny! There was actually some talk about taking the school vans, but they raised money for commercial flights, thank God!
MBB 76-73 over UIC.
Sad thing is that they pissed away a 20-4 lead. Same Tinkle stuff, 21 TO’s and strange substitution patterns. Nice to see Lake progressing.
Yes, they did but they still won. I like their talent but it will be interesting to see if they are under-coached.
Just watching a replay and announcers said that OSU top 5 made a combined nil last year of $400K now those same 5 at other schools making a combined $4M in NIL. Good for them.
Mediocre college basketball players should not be pulling anywhere close to $1M per year.
Those players get paid based on what the market determines is their value.
You are both right.
Looks like Andy Jenkins is in Corvallis. You may remember a month or 2 nack he resigned from his coaching position at USC.
https://x.com/A_Jenks8/status/1986961205119099030?t=tWNCylnxH_CbxX0mwrwu5w&s=19
From the I wish both teams could lose file… I’m going to hold my nose, plug my mouth, and hope that the Iowa Hogeyes beat the freaking quacks.
Why didn’t Bray work out at HC?
A piece from Yahoo Sports on the general topic of coaching failures has the answer boiled down to this nugget, NOTE: no mention of Bray in the article.
“You think of our industry and how dumb it is, you have somebody who has expertise in some particular area that is so substantial that they get promoted, right?” Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts said. …But so many times, the one thing that was a differentiator for them professionally, they now go into a role that they’re not performing any of what they were an expert at and now they’re in a role that they’re not great at. “
Of course Bray was performing some of what he was expert at, but you get the point.

This is just the Peter Principle not an amazing insight.
The “peter princiipal.” Promoted to level of incompetence.
I’ve reserved the activity room here at our beautiful assisted living facility for a gala watch party. I expect a big turnout of fans. I irritated Edith, who thinks she runs the place, because she had to move her Saturday evening bridge group. Ha-ha Edith, scoreboard!
I expect the place to be rocking until halftime, around 8:30, when the lights go off. (Figuratively speaking, of course)
Couple questions on my mind…
Chryst- Would he retain Langsdorf as OC, strong connection there
Why is Barnes so anti a GM, said he wasn’t open to that in an interview recently.
Is “Moneyball” a thing in college football for identifying players? If it is the Beavs could use the help.
Moneyball works better when teams can make trades and have roster limits. College football has neither
Why tf was Coach Cav 10 ft onto the field when we kicked that field goal?
And how is that not called 12 men on the field?
I guess when an 0-8 team is playing a 2-7 team, the players, fans, coaches and refs all just don’t give a damn anymore.
Look at the stands man! Several thousand people care!
Where’s angry? Missin’ some attractive Beav cheerleaders…..just sayin’
How are we not ranked with a quality team like this
Ryan Leaf is really impressed
This is turning into a shit-fest. Special teams rear their ugly heads once again. Johnson isn’t a D-1 level QB either. I would play Murphy at this point just because of the investment. 17-14 Beavs early third quarter.
Johnson isn’t that good but should they spend NIL on other positions and just go with him next year? He’s improved as a passer. Seems like they could find a better option in the portal but we learned this year that’s not always the case.
I don’t know, he just has no pocket presence or ability to stretch the field. The dink and dunk doesn’t work when you can’t make a field goal. Are they going to lose this game because of special teams and turnovers? I just heard that SHSU is playing a freshman QB.
And no guts to keep the ball instead of the predictable hand off.
Akey’s kid still our SpTm guru?
Definitely something rotten in Denmark.
The offense was good enough except in the red zone. If it’s me I play MM after the offense stagnates a few drives, but what does 1.5m get you on special teams?
Blocked punt scoop and score SHSU leads 21-17 with 8:30 left. I guess that play defines the season in a nutshell.
Can it get worse than an 0-8 CUSA team coming into Reser and beating the Beavs? Giving up 2 special teams TDs?
This team is unwatchable frankly. For those of you who endured the 29 losing years, was it ever this bad?
I’m still not sure how the WSU win happened. I can’t believe that they thought this one was in the bag and were over-confident. Sadly, I’m kind of rooting for Sam Houston St to get their win.
2:00 left Beavs need a td to win.
Poor Hankerson drops a TD pass on one of Langdorf’s decent play calls. Beavs defense stops SHSU again, and then Johnson throws what may be the game-ending interception.
Sam Houston says hold my beer and throws an interception to give OSU life and a last shot to win.
And then the Beavs can’t get a first down. SHSU wins 21-17. Beavs might be the laughing stock of D-1 football. 474-175 advantage in total yards. Three turnovers, two missed field goals, gave up a kickoff for a TD, and a blocked punt scoop and score. I don’t think they converted a first down.
I think this is as bad as it gets. The Beavs have some talent; they had Houston beat, just beat Wazzu. Fertig, Avezzano, and Andersen’s team were really devoid of talent at times. This team is unexplainable.
Sorry, typo….I don’t think the Beavs converted a fourth down.
Might be the laughing stock? We just lost to THE laughing stock of college football this year! OSU will be the new #1 team on this weeks ESPN “Bottom 10”
Absolutely pathetic and I’m so glad I didn’t waste my time watching or attending this game!
They scored 14 pts on special teams?!?! How many games have poor special teams play cost us this year?!?! I can’t believe the ST coaches are still there.
The best news for this one is that Akey certainly isn’t the answer and should not get any opportunity to continue. Lansdorf is a debacle and whoever is prepping qbs needs to be sent out of town tonight.
Unbelievable that Johnson hasn’t been drilled to, once in awhile, keep the ball on the option. Just as unbelievable is the SpTms play in so many ways all season. Ugh
Akey’s act is wearing thin quickly. However, I think the camera caught him snapping at Langdork after a shitty third-down pass play picked up three yards when they needed seven.
Fire Akey!
I am speechless.
It will be a national headline. Nice.
Can we get a rebate on NIL?
Well, Duke paid Murphy’s replacement, Darian Mensah, 8 mil for two years, and they just lost to UConn today. At least the Beavs aren’t the only program not getting any value for their money.
Oh wow what the hell are we doing and what the hell is a Sam houston state? How are we the worst??? MORE CHAINSAWS
Oh wow what the hell are we doing and what the hell is a Sam houston state? How are we the worst??? MORE CHAINSAWS
Who is going to want to come and takeover this dumpster fire football program? It’s very unfortunate that OSU took 20 years to complete Reser Stadium, too little too late. They should just drop down to FCS D1-AA and join the Big Sky. We just can’t compete in today’s college football with NIL, the portal, and a small market. These are not student athletes anymore, they’re professionals. The teams with the most money are the only teams invited to the big show. It will never be the same, and OSU just can’t compete.
I was rooting for SHS after the the KO return for a TD…The implosion is welcomed and staggering! The entire staff should immediately resign and the final two games must be forfeited! I refuse to waste my time watching the last two a$$ kickings!
I guess I’m with the announcers on kickoffs not being a replayed down if there are offsetting penalties. But how the hell they’re so bad on coverage all year has been mystifying.
The Beavs could still finish with an undefeated PAC2 conference championship. Only Oregon St, IU, Ohio St, Texas A&M, Bama, Kenn St, Jacksonville St, James Madison, and Southern Miss are the remaining schools with undefeated conference records. The proper spin is OSU is playing for an undefeated conference championship which few teams can accomplish.
I like your glass full optimism. :o)
Maybe we need an exorcism or something. Perhaps reposting the the last thread before the first game of the year with predictions, hopes, dreams, etc. will do it.
I would really be fascinated to know what the experience of being a player on this team this year was like. You never really get an accurate story from pressers and interviews.
We’ve seen the results on the field. I can only imagine how much worse it is in the locker room and in the football facility.
This…my friends…is even better than 0-12. The embarrassment should get the entire staff canned. Oregon State football is a laughing stock on par with the Craig Fertig era, as if it’s 1977 all over again, hahaha. The most pathetic program in ALL of Division 1. It’s an unforgettable achievement to have come full circle, isn’t it, folks?
Good news is, Akey is no longer a possible choice
I remember times in the last 25 years when OSU would get some player from a “big time” program, maybe they’d been booted off a team for one thing or another, you’d think all they needed was a second chance. And then you realize those “big time” programs will give players all the chances they need – as long as they could play.
The Beavs lost to Sam Houston?!?! Hahaha!!!! Has to be a new low with the program.
Well, they have no where to go but up as they truly have hit rock bottom.
Beaver fans know that trundling along the bottom for many years is a possibility.
.
Can anybody on that staff coach special teams? Barnes need to do an intervention but not holding my breath. I would not let those ST coaches coach a pee wee team.
That was the most impressive outplaying of another team and yet still losing that I have ever seen
I guess there are two things to be “grateful” for after last night. First, it’s 5 am and there is STILL no mention of the game on the Corvallis Gazette-Times website. and second, this could be a program completely rebuilt FOR the NIL/Portal era. This a complete teardown. There can’t be anyone left who needs to be placated or “kept in place” because they’ve been around for so long. Institutional memory might be a bad thing.
I imagine most programs have been “adjusting” to the new era on the fly. Sure NIL dollars speak loudly. But I also think what went down at LSU, Florida et. al is part of the disfunction that is plaguing the sport.
Build a program that is able to minimize the dysfunction, focus on maximizing what the program can offer. It might simply be beating the bushes for FCS and DII players looking for a better showcase, developing an effective offense and defense that can be learned by players quickly. This program can’t spend a year developing a player so they can cash in somewhere else.
Indiana’s football team had apparently lost more games than any team in the country….look at them.
What’s happening is the overall product continues to decline across the country.
OSU will start at the bottom of the Mount PAC conference, when it should have likely been top 3…
And Cignetti apparently had B10-quality players at James Madison, because some of his transfers are excelling at Indiana. The players are out there if you have the money and the coaching.
Did Sam Houston rush the field??
How the hell do you lose to Sam Houston at home? Wow. Even for a glorified HS team, that is bad.
You find a way Angry, you find a way. That’s what this team does! When other give up, when defeat seems impossible, you find a way…
Poor wazzu, how do they live with losing to this team?
The Beavers fotball “X” site posted nothing after the end of the third quarter.
It certainly will be memorable for the seniors!
The did have a “Beaver ball!” post around 10:30 which popped up on my screen. I wasnt watching the game but when i saw the post my first thought was “this can’t be good that we’re this excited about a 4th quarter turnover against a team we should be handling easily”
Boston College dropped to 1-9 (0-6 in ACC) with a 45-13 home defeat to SMU. BC’s only win this year is against FCS Fordham.
Incoming Mount PAC team Texas State got into a post-game brawl last night after losing to U Louisiana ….
Way to go out on Senior night.. Walker was exceptionally terrible. Special teams is still… well special
Rock Bottom, it’s nice to meet you.
-Oregon State Football (officially now the worst team in college football)
I don’t like to say it, because he’s the Beavs’ best player, but in true Luck O’ the Beavs fashion, Hank dropped a sure first down and likely a TD on the rare 4th down call from Langsdork that actually made sense and worked. Twilight zone times indeed.
His first carry after the half looked great, but when he started looking “off” we should have seen some Hatcher.
It didn’t help that Johnson never pulled the ball and ran. He had a couple of wide-open lanes. They just kept slamming the ball into a stacked front. I thought the whole point of Johnson playing was his dual-threat abilities? It’s arguable, but I think they would have won the game fairly easily with Murphy at QB just because of his arm strength, experience, and that the pass protection was decent.
It’s probable that his ability to stretch the field vertically would have helped. Maybe that keeps the db’s from facing up and getting int’s but not sure given his other performances. Regardless, that probably opens up the running game. Part of what I was getting at was too many times have players stayed in the game banged up and their performance isn’t what it was. Couldn’t figure out why Hank didn’t anticipate popping to the outside when the middle was stacked. Same thing with Walker but over a multi-game spread after he got banged up, he wasn’t playing with the same anticipation and confidence. Agree QB should have pulled the ball at least once.
As a “players coach” isn’t it likely Akey kept Hank in the game for records/headlines?
Hank’s performance as the game went on did deteriorate and “banged up” may have been a factor, but Langsdork’s play calling and Johnson’s inexplicable refusal to keep the ball was a big factor as well.
Johnson could have had two more interceptions easily, and that one deflection that I think Wells miraculously caught should have been a pick-six. Despite the high completion percentage, I was not impressed with Johnson’s decision-making.
Quote yesterday from a commentary by Dylan Jacobs with the GT:
“No matter who’s at quarterback for the Beavers, no matter how the offense looks, this should be a win. And if it’s not, prepare for the ridicule.”
Does anyone know if the Goodwill store will be open on Sunday morning Nov. 30th? Thx MM #6
Writer in the big zero turns philosopher himself after calling for Akey to be kept on as a team “resident philosopher”
“But when the Beavers do bring in their new head coach, Akey’s voice feels like one they can’t afford to lose in the locker room. He connects with players and coaches on an emotional level and understands that college football is about a lot more than Xs and Os.
However badly OSU needs new coaches and an improved roster, it still needs its resident philosopher.”
Sounds kinda like looking for our identity, no?
And then the counsel for fans:
“If nothing else, there is something to be said for the benefit of distraction right now for the OSU faithful. It’s easy to find oneself in a doom loop.
All the stress of a brutal football season and handwringing over a pivotal coaching hire can take a temporary backseat, if you let it.”
I think that’s self-serving from the local media because Akey is very approachable and a good quote, but after last night’s debacle, I don’t have much tolerance for his folksy bullshit. Makes sense that he was 30 games under at Idaho.
Akey was also on the national SiriusXM college football network on Thursday, and the hosts were lapping up his style. He was on for a good 10 minutes. He sort of pissed away that goodwill with what happened last night.
Rest assured that the AD will somehow eff up the coaching hire, too. I’ve lost complete faith in thm. Yes, we have a spectacular stadium but if the product on the field fails to produce it’s pretty much all for naught. I watched most? of the game last night and marvelled at the laqck of coaching, from special teams on down. Where was that defense from the last 2 weeks? Special teams has been talked to death, but as bad as OSU has been in the distant past, it was never due to special teams play, as far as I recollect. I don’t think that Nick Saban himself could turn this ship around… the teams that blew up the Pac 12 and relegated us to this position can rot in hell.
How did the rugby civil war turn out?
More disappointment. They lost 34-24. Not that it affected the score, but I found it interesting that their home Rugby field is a joke. It’s at a middle school in Springfield. Uneven, half-assed mowed field. You would think Uncle Phil could flip them a little dough even though it’s a club sport. Of course, it figures since the Quack women’s Beach Volleyball team sued the University over their poor facilities. Beavs play right across from Gill at the Legacy fields on campus. I was impressed. McKalk Jr scored a try to bring it to 26-24, but too many turnovers and penalties in the final 10 minutes.
The Quacks play in a different organization, so it didn’t affect their playoff hopes. Get this, my son thinks they play Sam Houston St in Denver next weekend!
Club sports are handled terribly. My granddaughter plays her college water polo matches in three lanes of a public pool. The old ladies slowly swimming laps in the other two lanes are always complaining of errand balls getting into their lanes.
Even worse she has to pay for her own life preserver and those little nose plug doo-dad clips.
Beav Rugby has good support and some endowments. They actually award a couple of scholarships a year. I think I heard that they’ve been playing since the 50’s. The season runs the entire school year with traditional 15’s and then 7’s. Interesting setup.
Ya lacrosse was fun, more of a beer league when I was there, but got to play games at reser and practice in truax. Team made nationals quite a few times 10ish years ago flying it to play Florida/SE teams.
Would be cool if it caught on more…great game, I think to make it translate well to tv media would need closer shots, better angles.
Watch Blue mountain State, S1 E8…most of the series is funny, and the best college football on tv…
This one is about LaCrosse
I’ll be taking the over on missed field goals and blocks punts the rest of the season.
You’re a good blocker?
The next HC is going to have to go full Deion Sanders and basically tell 75% of the team to start looking for another gig. It’s an unfortunate reality.
75% of this roster may voluntarily go.
Another unfortunate reality.
Not the worst thing when they lose to Sam Houston
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DEXR9o8db/
Anyone know if this is true? I hope it is but….
I couldn’t get the correct link but in summary, several high value donors met with president Murthy after yesterday’s loss and expressed their disgust with the AD among other things related to the football program…
Hopefully it is something along the lines of J Hwang dangling $300 million donation only if Barnes and the entire staff connected to Barnes all get fired.
Who are “The Several?”
Those mysterious donors powering the beavers to prominence…
The article didn’t name names it just said several donors. If it would have,bi would have listed them
This is even more sad than the loss.
“Actual thing just said on the PA: “If you’re headed out, find your seat, Beaver Nation.”
https://x.com/RyanTClarke/status/1987407264957993019?t=ukLkHWy_dAVtgE8If-EuUA&s=19
I don’t get it
I interpret as “if you are leaving early because we suck, sit back down and endure this shitshow”
That was my impression as well. Fans leaving early and the PA telling them to sit back down
Lol.
Fuck you. I paid my money. Ill leave when I want or not show up if the product is a garbage fire
That loser Akey better not be retained. Im fuckin tired of this nice guy, aw shucks whoa is us attitude.
I’ve had it. Fire everybody. If I even get handed a bag of popcorn net fall by a returning vendor I will be pissed. Maintenance seems fine, they can stay… but even they should be on thin ice.
Replace Barnes with the Sac St Athletic Director immediately. and If Murthy doesn’t like it. Replace her with Sac States president. I don’t know a ton about them, but I know they have vision and a drive to succeed… things we haven’t seen here since Mitch Barnhart left.
How much NIL money would Oregon State need to be top in the new PAC? Anyone know? Doesn’t seem like that heavy of a lift for a school with a pretty large alumni base and with many very wealthy alums.
And if we don’t have the people that can make that happen then find those people.
$1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.00 give or take a few bucks.
sooo easy to speculate and envision. I doubt ‘many wealthy donors’ will part with money forthis mess.
Not gonna lie, this defeatist attitude that permeates the alum base and athletic department seems to be a plague. If that is the attitude of the university it will be self fulfilling, if the university decides it can get donors to donate they will make that self fulfilling.
Oregon State has so many advantages, it needs a visionary. Instead defeatism seems likely to win out yet again.
Are the beavers going to name another interim HC for the final two games? Asking for a friend.
At least fire the interim Special Teams coach…
Who is the current special teams coach by the way? Is it Akeys son?
At least fire the interim Special Teams coach…
Who is the current special teams coach by the way? Is it Akeys son?
So 3, (4?) losses this season can be directly attributed almost strictly to special teams blunders. Multiple games we’ve lost go our way if the team can just play special teams at a level that a good 6A high school team can. Obviously this team is not good, but what would people here be thinking if we were sitting at 5-6 wins right now because we could execute basic football things such as extra points, field goals, punts, and return defense? People would have a very different view of things. Again, yes, this is not a good team, but they are better than their record indicates as well in my opinion.
It’s crazy how three plays can influence the overall outcome of a season. Thinking back to 2022. Let’s do some alternate history for a second:
1. Colletto gets stuffed at the 1 yard line against Fresno State and we lose that game.
2. Harrison and Bengal Branson don’t connect on an absolutely lucky Hail Mary over the back of the defender and we lose to a mediocre Stanford team.
3. Despite the Beats coming all the way back in the 4th quarter, the Ducks manage to score on 4th and goal to take the lead and stop the comeback attempt
If just three plays go differently, 2022 is yet another 7-5 year to forget.
But I guess that’s what they say, right? “Good teams find a way to win,”?
Article on potential HC candidate Shepard:
“Shephard has a lot of titles at Alabama: co-offensive coordinator, assistant head coach, and wide receivers coach. That is a product of his breadth of experience with stops at Western Kentucky, Washington State, Purdue and Washington before making the move with Kalen DeBoer to Alabama.
Shephard is a passionate speaker and elite motivator who puts in a lot of work on the recruiting trail for the Crimson Tide. He was the pass game coordinator at Washington, and he’s coached elite players to high levels of production through the air in both Seattle and Tuscaloosa.
Washington had the No. 2 passing offense in the country and scored 36 points per game in 2023 on their way to an appearance in the CFP national championship game. This year’s Alabama offense is No. 13 in passing and scores nearly 33 points per game in the SEC, with the Crimson Tide ranked No. 4 and firmly in the national title hunt.”

Really helps when you have very good qb’s which the Beavs currently do not have.
In 2023 Barnes’ contract was extended through 2030.
At that time Beavers football was doing pretty well…probably top 20…
“Barnes was hired as Oregon State’s athletic director in December 2016. Among his signature accomplishments are overseeing a $161 million remodel of Reser Stadium and hiring football coach Jonathan Smith.
…
The contract also includes language specific to Oregon State’s current conference realignment issues, insulating Barnes if future conference moves cause a decline in the athletics budget and resources.”
…
If Barnes leaves Oregon State by his choosing at any point before June 30, 2029, he would owe a substantial penalty. The buyouts are $1.5 million through June 30, 2024, reduced to $1.25 million through the same date in 2025, $950,000 in 2026, $650,000 in 2027, and $350,000 in 2028 or 2029.”
Getting a new AD anytime soon seems unlikely.
The extension was great at the time. Keep in mind UW wanted to hire him a year or so ago and he said no thanks. They grabbed the WSU AD instead. Both ADs were raved about by their peers for how the navigated us getting left behind by the rest of the PAC12. He was highly revered in the the industry. Then Smith left and it changed everything. If Smith never left all would be great right now with the AD and Football team. But a bad hire in Bray which most thought was the best decision at the time and now everyone wants his head. Be patient and hopefully the next hire in a few weeks will put us in the proper trajectory that Barnes and Smith has us moving. But thst hire can’t be Smith again. Barnes knows that also.
Barnes lost me at the Tinkle extensions long before the JS departure. He isn’t to be trusted with such a pivotal hire.
You can make the argument for past decisions being justified or viewed positively but it doesn’t change the circumstances we find ourselves in now. Barnes was hyper focused on PAC2 legal drama and not as much on the key revenue sport and head coach.
Of course it was a disastrous situation for him, including major medical issues. Which also point to others to actually make the next hire.
I don’t have any faith in Barnes vision or judgement for the present situation.
Preparing for a completely lackluster, easiest way out, low hanging fruit type of hire.
It would not surprise me to see some layering of additional former Riley coaches getting bigger contracts in an effort to get the gang back together.
Riley in some advisory role but multiple others in the loop with bigger responsibilities. I hate the idea but I know that scenario is about 80/20 instead of a radical reset ofOSU football with a completely different coaching lineup.
How much did the president F King guy I think his name was getting fired mess things up? I don’t know which decisions have been up to Barnes and which ones are up to the president. Would a president have been able to get us into a better situation with athletics? Who should have been forward thinking with NIL etc? Beavs were never going to be early adopters with NIL it seemed. I think that’s my frustration. Who’s to blame there?
I think the regents select the president. Due diligennce should have eliminated F. King.
I’m going to need some evidence uW wanted to hire Barnes. The way I read that at the time, was he seemed to be pursuing the UW job opening and about a day or two before UW hired Chun, Barnes loudly announced he was staying at dear old OSU.

Kiffin’s view in key criteria for HC opportunities:
“People used to say facilities,” Kiffin said Monday, answering a question from the Clarion Ledger’s Sam Hutchens. “Practice field. Those things. I think that’s changed, and it’s going to change. It’s going to be, ‘How much NIL do you have? How is your collective? How is it run? How much do you have?”
Canzano mentioned there’s OSU interest in Tosh Lupoi. No info on if he’s interested. What do you all think?
Never been a head coach.
Track record of success at Washington, Alabama, and Oregon, not exactly have nots.
Known as a great if not shady recruiter but does that even matter now with NIL?
He seems overrated as a D coordinator. Given the money they have, the talent they purchase, their D performance doesn’t measure up in terms of consistency or bigger games.
Think OSU running over them for 1.5 quarters, everyone knowing the Beavers are going to run, the stadium is only half built, only about 18-20K capacity (?), and UO still couldn’t stop the run. Think Ohio State sodomizing them in the playoffs last year, big play after big play…I suspect Utah has fielded better defenses for less money(?), Indiana doing it now, admittedly spending money, but getting it done too. They throttled UO in the fourth quarter…
I think in the near future Lanning would have to consider moving on from slipping but for his recruiting.
Is there any evidence he would be good at running a program? I can’t imagine they’d promote a d coordinator again to head coach unless they were doing a lot of head coaching duties or were a former head coach. Conzano must be looking to get some excitement going.
Also a known cheater
Is there even such thing as cheating anymore?
He’s only co-OC because he is so good at recruiting. Nikegon did the same thing with KHJ to justify paying him enough to move from OSU.
He was the Eddie Gran of the Pac 12, and I would expect him to have as much success were he to be a solo OC.
And Kennedie Shuler still hasn’t figured out how to make FTs as she is now 2-8 this season. I would have thought she would have figured out how to shoot at least 60% by now.
Beavs leading AF at halftime 32-20 but with 11 turnovers so far.
Now 3-14 and her misses are just UGLY. Someone needs to get her into see a shrink.
She’s fine when driving to the hoop but she can’t hit a FG, or FT, still.
First time I’ve watched this team this year. Had to move someone out of my seats which was weird. Overall better crowd than I expected but quiet.
Beavs were in control, fairly easily but you can tell they haven’t gelled. SR hasn’t figured out rotations yet, not unexpected. Team will miss Cat, there just doesn’t seem to be a dynamic player. Curious to see more of Sow.
ESPN+ sucks! The game audio is about 5-6 seconds ahead of the video feed and you hear the outcome of the play before you see it. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a game where the audio was out of sync with the video. I’m now watching the game without audio.. .ESPN is just horrible!
wait until u try cancel it.
I’ve started a subscription to ESPN+, cancelled it and restarted it again without any issues. You just do it right on your TV.
you flight aware guys – i was sent a private jet something about a cvo flight to montana
Barf
Another one to Rapid City.
I always love that their airport is KRAP.
So here’s how the amount PAC teams are currently ranked by USAToday, which ranks all 136 teams.
SDSU, 7-2, #45
BSU, 6-3, #46
Fresno State, 6-3, #50
Utah State, 5-4, #71
WSU, 4-5, #95
Texas State, 36, #117
CSU, 2-7, #123
OSU, 2-8, #129
Consider the ’26 schedule has to come up with 5 non-con games, and B10, SEC and B12 are playing 9 conference games, so non-con games with those conferences are likely in short supply and probably on the road if at all.
Doesn’t look like a compelling season for viewing….new conference, new coaching staff, OSU may start out at the bottom….how they finish is what matters, but that viewing product isn’t going to get people in the stands or eyes on the tv…..
It would be interesting to know what the value is of their NIL collective is for each school?
Gonna pull a name out of my ass here. It happened once with Dennis Eribckson. At least gotta try?
Chris Peterson
Would love that!!!
Chris Peterson would have to really hate providing half time commentary and really love a coaching challenge.
Not gonna happen so waste of discussion time.
Sure, but watching this team is also a waste of time and a lot of us do that
I don’t (this year) but fair.
I heard we lost when I woke up to a college buddies rants about how we should drop everything but baseball. Which also might be fair. And didn’t even need to google the score.
Hahaha!!! True!
Oregon State’s coaching search updates
Oregon State University is actively searching for a new head football coach after firing Trent Bray following a 0-7 start to the season. Here are some of the latest updates on the coaching search ¹:
– Top Contenders:
– JaMarcus Shephard: Alabama’s co-offensive coordinator, assistant head coach, and wide receivers coach, known for his dynamic offense and recruiting prowess. He’s considered a rising star in the coaching ranks.
– Ed Orgeron: Former head coach with experience, although older, might be considered for his leadership skills.
– Andy Avalos: Young and ambitious former head coach, might appeal to Oregon State’s desire for a fresh start.
– Paul Chryst: Former Wisconsin head coach with ties to Oregon State, having served as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator in the 1990s and early 2000s.
– Other Names in the Mix:
– Brent Vigen (Montana State)
– Brennan Marion (UNLV offensive coordinator)
Current Status:
– Oregon State’s athletic department is conducting a thorough search process.
– Interim head coach Robb Akey is leading the team, but it’s unclear if he’s in the running for the permanent position.
– The BeaversEdge community is actively discussing potential candidates and providing updates on the search ² ³ ?.
FWIW…..The above info from AI….
No shit, it doesn’t even know that Marion is a head coach now.
Crazy to listen to JoeBeaver show and MP is in full propaganda defense of Barnes mode. I know that they have to work with the AD and staff in day to day, but it smacks of desperation to defend Barnes for an hour non stop, and many callers defending Barnes on top of it.
Tinkle stinks.
We shall refer to him as Stinkle.
You don’t like Tinkle?
B10 and private equity…
“Ladies and gentlemen, I give you financial stupidity: the Big Ten, the richest and most financially secure conference of all — by a wide margin — desperately trying to jump in bed with private equity in exchange for a piece of each school’s valuable, and ever-increasing, media rights.
…
You want more money? I’m staring at millions given to Oregon and Washington, who were added to the league because some dolt decided to grab USC and UCLA without thinking it through — and then realized the two schools that were, in many cases, three time zones from the conference footprint needed travel partners.
…
The Big Ten is calling this proposed $2.4 billion deal with the devil a “plan” — because plan sounds like something that was analyzed and scrutinized and is an agreeable structure. Not a deal, which sounds more like somebody is winning and somebody is getting the short end of it.
Let me explain, as easily as possibly — again, without getting into the weeds of it all — who’s winning and who’s losing: if you’re trying to pass this deal without each university’s board of trustees digesting the specifics, you might be on the short end of it.
…
The fact universities at some schools are using presidents and/or athletic directors to sign off on this deal is remarkably reckless. University presidents are hired to raise money, athletic directors are hired to spend it.
My god, this can’t be real.
The Big Ten reported $928 million in revenue last year, and in fiscal 2025, USA TODAY Sports projects the revenue to jump to $1.2-1.4 billion. Billion, with a B.
…
There isn’t a revenue problem in the Big Ten, there’s a budget problem.
And then there’s Petitti, opening his arms to private equity sharks whose sole purpose in life is making deals in which they benefit. They’re not just giving you $2.4 billion out of the goodness of their heart.
And they sure as hell aren’t doing it without influence, unintended or otherwise. They’re doing it because they’ve got a big fish on the line, one who’s hungry and needs to feed.”
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2025/11/11/big-10-proposed-deal-with-private-equity-is-fiscally-reckless-tony-petitti/87203440007/
The end is near for the university system/conference model once they take that road.
Apparently Matt Hayes thinks the University of California Pension Fund are private equity sharks looking for some kind of influence and who is hungry and needs to feed.
This is some chicken fried stupidity.
$2.4b for a ten percent return over 20 years should pencil out to about a 5-7% return for the pension fund. That’s all they’re looking for. They don’t want anything to do with managing the B1G. They just want to loan some money at a good rate.
Could the B1G go to a bank and get better terms? Idk. I would guess maybe? Maybe they’ve tried?
One article suggests TCU D coordinator Andy Avalos could be a HC candidate for OSU….44, previous BSU HC, UO DC…I hadn’t seen this name before in connection with the job.
Can we just move on from any connections to former OSU coaches or Duck coaches please?
We are being taunted by Portland media with the names tossed around as valid options:
Riley
J Smith
Avalos
Chryst
Mendenhall
Tupoi
Will Stein
Good grief…let’s just add Chip Kelly, Rich Brooks, Mike Bellotti and Mark Helfrich while we’re at it.
Any football coaching search has to start in Texas FCS or upper Midwest FCS for system coaches.
Stop with the “knows Corvallis” garbage. It creates a built in excuse for failure. Hire a proven guy who wants the challenge as much as the paycheck/pay raise and take your chances. Don’t overpay, but don’t just cheap out on an unproven assistant either. And for goodness sake, don’t get sucked into a long guaranteed contract with a huge buyout.
Barnes will screw it up and we will be stuck with another bad contract like Tinkles or Barnes for that matter. Barnes own contract sort of makes it difficult to get rid of him.
WSU AD Anne McCoy fired…rough transition period for PAC2…
