Nemec Blocks Our Recruiting Handle / General Thread

251

And my personal handle as well.

Just another reason not to read the Oregonian?

He pretty much stole all our recruiting info anyway, so he basically just cannibalized himself.

New podcast with the dope (Sprague) and Mamma Machado. I haven’t listed to it yet. I don’t want to dedicate an entire thread to Nemec, so let’s go general, too.

  1. What a rag. The Oregonian is a desperate relic attempting to remain relevant. Even the lowly Willamette Week has managed to be more impactful than the Oregonian has in recent years.

Between Nemec, Goe, Moran, and Canzano. Yuck. Eggers is better than them all.

  2. Around the 5 minute mark they talk about Hodgins. I didn’t realize how slow he is. Only a 4.76 40. Mention he is fluid and runs great routes. So he is basically Keenen Allen, which would be awesome.

  3. His block of the beavrecruiting acct he claimed was accidental, although the tweet he sent preceding the block was “best of luck”
Said he intended to mute and just fat fingered it. So now it’s unblocked but muted (what’s the point other than saving face?)

I don’t think he got his direct recruiting info from the acct, but he often retweeted the player offers, news, etc from it in the past, which helped to identify potential stories to build clickbait galleries around.

The reason for the block/mute? Because I posted a yawning baby gif in response to a boring post about recruiting rankings. Seriously?

  4. They mention CSU being sold out and expected to be “rocking”…Angie hesitant and says “I don’t know”…implying she believes it’s a loss.

Have no clue myself. Luton has me nervous that game, but I can see him burning CSU a few times if their D is as bad as some have mentioned.

Sprague hints GA not good with QBs. Pretty good podcast overall. It’s like they’re reading this blog.

    • “the dope”
Funny, was wondering what his role was on this show other than being the guy with connections to a radio station so he can hit the record button, and then to play the dumb blonde role & lob softball questions to Angie so she sounds knowledgable.

Why do they stick to the “Air raid” description of the offense?
Just this week, GA talked to the media amd specifically said he never said he wants an air raid offense and wasn’t sure where that misinformation was coming from. He called the offense “the oregon state offense” and said he prefers to run/pass 60%/40% of the time. That doesn’t even sound like an air raid offense.

Agree on CSU. They are considered to be a new years bowl dark horse candidate this year by several analysts. They also have an experienced QB, a team loaded with upper classmen and the home field advantage (start time/elevation/new stadium)

This is on par with traveling to Boise State and we saw how Boise State played us at Reser last year.

      • Fans and jounalists ran with the air raid name. It was really annoying on sites like this reading all the fans freaking out that were going air raid with nall.

The way i understand it is they simply want to be able to run some tempo. Im thinking something along the lines of big plays to catch the d at a disadvantage by hurrying to the line. Maybe also in 2nd and short hurry to take a quick shot deep. Hopefully they can catch a few teams out of position and get some big plays from it.

  5. Losing to CSU would be a huge disappointment. This is Year 3 and Andersen really needs a W in Week 1 to carry over momentum from last year and start the season with the right energy around the program that builds toward a real chance at 7 wins this season.

Nall and Tyner should be tough for CSU to handle. If Luton manages the game well and priortizes first downs and possession, with some steady throws mixed in with the eun game strength, then Oregon State should be able to out physical the Rams and get the Week 1 win.

    • That seems logical.

The first game for a new QB, wild fans in a new stadium, altitude are all variables, though. I’m not sure what to expect. I did read up on CSU a bit and saw their defense still has the reputation as being bad. Many times even bad D’s can feed off the crowd, though, especially in a home opener. I feel like this game can go any way. Beavs blow them out, get blown out, or a close game.

    • I think the beavs win either close or blowout. I don’t see the beavs losing big but agree a lot of variables at play. The only way i see the team losing is if they lose the turnover battle badly. Im hoping Luton takes care of the ball and they run for 300 yds.

  6. I live in CO and will be going to the game. Folks here very optimistic on the Rams. Believe they have 2 NFL guys on oline, NFL QB, NFL ILB and topn2 round WR. I’m interested to see who our 3rd CB is. Williams is a great nickel- need Irvine to step up at CB.
Expecting a shootout – TOS, reacting to crowd and getting a second wind w altitude will
Be key. Our lines will struggle getting into game shape. Feel like we need an early lead so we can be aggressive. CSU will blitz Luton and try to confuse him. Can’t get down early and let crowd build. 3 point line seems about right

    • Agree, TO’s will be a key. Not sure why you believe our “lines will struggle getting into game shape.”
The D-line, particularly, is an area of optimism for me. If they are gonna get the 30 sacks/TO’s Andersen set as a goal, they need a big start vs CSU.
On the O-line, not sure what to expect in the first game, Houston seems to be OK in practice though and that was/is a key element for me.

  7. OT: Oregon State University is now offering “fat studies” courses to students. The courses regard the concept of “weightism” and “fatphobia” as a hot-button civil rights issue. The courses further examine how body weight, shape, and size play key roles in societal privilege and discrimination.

The course will be taught by instructor Patti Lou Watkins, who penned an articlein European Health Psychologist, which argued that humans can be healthy at any body weight, an endorsement of the widely-panned “Health At Any Size” movement. Body size isn’t a good indicator of health, she argues. To Watkins, even individuals who can be classified as morbidly obese could be healthy.

Watkins also dismissed the effectiveness in dieting. “The validity of HAES is supported by research over the past decade that reveals the continued ineffectiveness of dieting interventions targeting weight loss along with the potential for harm associated with these strategies,” she writes. Surely, thousands of Americans who have lost weight and lowered their risk for certain medical conditions beg to differ with Watkin’s argument.

“I grew to embrace feminist pedagogy in terms of course content as well as classroom practices,” Watkins explains. “My course now frames body image disturbances more as a function of oppressive societal structures than of individual pathology.”

A separate course from Wakins’ entitled “Women, Weight, and Body Image,” examines “weightism” from the intersectionality perspective. This is suppose to mean that women who suffer from being overweight as well as being part of another minority group (black, trans, LGBTQ, etc) allegedly suffer from compounded discrimination.

    • Seems like she deftly dances around calling fat people unhealthy by using the term “weight”. And of course throws it under the unassailable umbrella of minority and LGBTQ rights. Tax and tuition dollars hard at work!

      • Weight might be a symptom of being unhealthy, but not always. There’s obviously thin unhealthy people and fatter healthy people. The area of prejudice toward overweight people is interesting. People make a lot of assumptions about overweight people.

        • Ah, I see.

I got distracted by the second and third paragraphs. I suppose the author meant to distract me because that’s how this author learned to form an argument. Shame on me for falling for that fallacy.

Still, isn’t it kind of a no-brainer that obese people face discrimination? I think her plan to make obesity a norm is happening with or without her teaching some classes that will be well attended by athletes who major in sociology.

        • Right, there are lots of reasons for weight. An over-fat person is unhealthy, though. If you have a high weight from fat, that’s unhealthy. But, she conveniently skirts saying fat people can be healthy by substituting the term weight, which is ambiguous. Though her argument is obviously that fat people shouldn’t be discriminated.

    • Classes like these are why I TOTALLY support free college for everyone. Access to learning VALUABLE stuff like this should be a RIGHT!

        • Seriously, we’re paying our tax dollars for high school level classes just for easy grades for people who shouldn’t be in college.

But we have to dismiss all that so we can giggle and wonder why in the world there are artsy fartsy classes like this in the world.

        • I’m not sure. I think he’s saying that everyone who takes that class is in it because they’re sheeple, not because they figure it will be an easy A.

I can’t imagine any football players ever taking this course. There’s no such thing as fat people in football. Dumb jocks would never identify with fat snowflakes.

          • I always wonder in the DT and OL talk, which is better in the physics sense. 320 and fatty, or 290 and more lean muscle? People usually talk like fatty is better. But what’s quicker off the ball and has a harder initial hit? (football thoughts)

  8. Regarding the CSU defense. They played in Minneapolis last year. They were very aggressive and got quite a bit of penetration vs a reshuffled O-line. I believe my Gophers racked up over 250 yards rushing on them, but the backs were constantly getting hit or having to sidestep guys in the backfield.
Hopefully we scheme to take advantage of their aggressiveness.
The other thing is their coach is not afraid to take risks. In the second half when it seemed the game might be heading to an easy win, he pulled off a fake punt deep in his own territory that flipped the whole dynamic of the game. Easy win turned into a nail biter.

    • Interesting thing with a new stadium is, you don’t really know how loud it really will be even if it’s specked and built for sound. The look of the rendition may seem nice, but it’s built back on the upper deck rather than stacked and both endzones are wide open without any buildings or upper deck to bounce the sound back onto the field. Will be interesting since it only holds 36,000. Think of Wazzu or Parker/Reser Stadium back in the 90’s early 2000’s before the renovation of Reser. Reser can and does get louder now then it did back then at full 36,000 capacity. Nice looking stadium otherwise.

      • I posted some links to photos of the stadium a few threads back. The renderings actually look better than the photos – I thought it looked utilitarian and likely (relatively) cost efficient. Maybe something the Russian government might build if they were feeling extravagant….. As open as it is, I doubt that sound will be that big of a problem. Use the running back stable and they can probably take the crowd out of it.

Reser would look fine if it were both sides matched and that funky corner were finished out with a complete horseshoe. With another roof structure, it might even sound better. The Terrace would still resemble a bunker..

  9. This Family Day decision to move the movie portion to Sunday annoys me so much. Now forecasted to be 77 and cloudy on Saturday and rain on Sunday. But the reason they moved it was “excessive heat” on Saturday. Again, 77 is below average for an August afternoon. Why plan it for 3pm in august in the first place if heat is a concern? They say the field turf will be 10 degrees hotter than the actual temp. Yes, maybe if it’s a sunny day, bit it will be cloudy.
It just captures so well how our sports marketing department is terrible at selling our brand and too stubborn to admit they had a bad idea and should reverse it. I’ve seen several fans on facebook and twitter who say they’re “bummed”. Why do we go out of our way to make it difficult for fans to enjoy their team? Really hope Barnes makes a clean sweep of that department, which still has Riley era staffers in key positions.

    • They’ll probably be confused why the “family day” movie even isn’t well attended too. Who wants to drag their kids to Reser twice using, essentially, a whole weekend? Just to see ‘Moana’? Yeah, no thanks.

        • Here’s the only response I’ve seen them make to any fan complaint so far: (from the oregon state football facebook page)

“Hi Kristi – Sorry that you’re bummed! The movie got changed because it is 10 degrees hotter on field turf, and it was scheduled to start around 3pm Saturday. We hope you can still stay through the afternoon and enjoy an evening in The Best College Town in The Pac-12! Go Beavs”

I think this particular fan had booked a hotel room in order to come down and spend the day in Corvallis for this event.
          Sorry that you’re bummed?
Why would anybody stay through the evening now, when the game ends around 2:00?
Am I being too hard on these people?

          • (a) that nobody is complaining and (b) “sorry you’re bummed” both fit the laid back West coast attitude…they are both what I’d expect, tbh.

          • Must be the legal weed.

2 of the ladies who are in roles in that department that make decisions on this type of stuff are east coaster/midwesterners actually.

It’s no wonder oregon’s marketing department runs laps around ours. It’s not just the budget, it’s the whole attitude.

          • If someone who partakes was in charge of this, it would still be happening tomorrow. They would have forgotten to call to postpone the Fritos truck and the food carts. And they wouldn’t be able to pay back the deposits because they used them to get the beer truck.

          • The followed up the response with an
“obviously we were intending to respond to somebody else regarding another event this weeknend. That message wasn’t intended for you. Duh….”

          • Did they seriously respond that way in what is supposed to be a professional correspondence?

That is more than unacceptable. That’s tantamount to CR mouthing off to end his last post-gamer. That’s some pretty piss-poor management right there.

I don’t care how you feel about the whole story up to now. If that response is true, there will be some changes to official access to official accounts.

    • I don’t think they should admit it was a bad idea. The original change was likely made for safety reasons. Imagine the backlash they would get if it was 105 on the field and kids were getting heat exhaustion. But, yeah, since the weather is now going to be cooler on Saturday and just plain crappy on Sunday, they should change it back to Saturday.

        • John Kerry… or Dumbshit Donald?

Almost verbatim, “I was for the Iraq war before I was against it.”

Of course, he later said he didn’t say that… on camera… one that was recording him… what a dumbshit liar… both of them.

          • I can see some of you are conflicted.

Have some of you never heard of this Donald Trump loser before 2015? He’s been in the public eye for 50 years. He’s an entitled trust fund loser, (former?) coke junkie, failed casino and pro football owner (among many other failures).

I always thought we were coming from that baseline… that the nihilists just decided it was time to blow America up and start over.

Am I looking at true believers for this moron? I that possible?

    • Agree it seems pretty dopey/bad planning. Where’s the movie it going to play, jumbotron? If they were popping up a giant screen with a projector you wouldn’t be able to see the movie very well mid-day anyway.

What’s going on inside Truax? If it were my day to plan, inside Truax would’ve been my contingency. My 7 year old would have more fun watching a movie inside there anyway.

    • Figured I would mention this here since Family Day was mentioned:

I have tickets for the PSU home game for myself & family (little ones first football game), but never been to Reser Stadium. Our seats are on the lower east side?

I’ve read some info about pregame activities. Are any of these worthwhile? What time is it good to arrive? Suggestions on where I should look to park?

If people are hungry, where to eat?

      Any advice is appreciated!

  10. Olive came out with their predicted roster, but don’t have Mason Moran anywhere on their roster. Did they forget he moved to safety or did i miss something?

  11. You didn’t miss much but I’ll give a recap.

Offense- Luton is absolutely not only a D 1 QB, but is a solid one. He didn’t make a single bad pass all day and was actually hitting guys in the hands. Hodgins had a drop because when he came out of his break the ball was already on him and he wasn’t ready. Villamin underperformed again, he had a perfect jump ball opportunity but didn’t make the play. Togiai might be the best TE in the PAC. Collins is injured. Bradford took his spot. Running game and the o line looked like a top 20 group in the country. We have legit 6 rb’s that can get carries and make a play. Even Bj Baylor had a 36 yard run.

Defense- some missed tackles for the 1st team which was concerning to me. But the Db’s made a lot of plays and batted a lot of balls down. Linebackers swarmed the ball all day and we put some decent pressure on the qb’s, but nothing came from it.

The main focus of the scrimmage today was to get the 2’s a lot of burn and also to get the freshman reps. So we saw little of the first team offense and defense and mainly the back ups which sucked.

        • Calvin Tyler returned kicks and punts. He’s a solid running back, so is Bj Baylor. Reminds me of terron ward. All shot gun from what I remember

          • I’m glad to hear that. One, it’s a great opportunity for the youngster. And two, hopefully it keeps Tyner from returning kicks and punts. Dude already has two blown up shoulders.

      • What year did the French and Indian War end?

What is the fastest land mammal?

What former NFL star played “Mongo” in Mel Brooks’s “Blazing Saddles?”

What cast member of “Friends” did NOT use cocaine?

Where do you last remember having your eye glasses?

Do you know understand why they’re called “Depends?”

      • Irvine played and looked solid, but so did Kyle white. Our secondary actually made a lot of nice plays on the ball today. If I had to guess I would say Irvine gets the start at Colorado state.

    • Is my comparison of Hodgins to Keenen Allen accurate? I base it on body type and agility without the breakaway speed. Wondering if that’s the type of WR we have in him.

  12. Not a huge surprise but it appears Rasmussen may be in for a 2nd ligament replacement surgery as early as this week per Baseball America.

    • Luton looked the part and I only remember the dropped fade by Villy. Any batted balls and missed accuracy was from either Garretson or Blount. Willard looked comfortable and led a td drive.

Tyner, Tyler and Baylor got most of the carries. Nall and Pierce each had a couple nice runs then were out for most of the rest of action. It looked like Johnson got hit low on an outside run and limped off fairly early. I was worried that it was a knee, sounds like it may have been an ankle.

Garretson looked very jumpy in the pocket, ready to bolt after his first read. Not ideal.

OL seemed to hold well for Luton on pass plays, opened up lanes for runs. Bradford looked decisive and quicker than Bolden on the fly sweep.

Guys that stood out to me were Wetzel, Flemings, Montbiton, Laiuna. Wetzel is the new prototype for LB and special teams, 6’3″ 220 lbs, and looks the part. Flemings is so small 5′ 5″ 130 lbs!! that I cringe when he is tackled, but he has great hands and confidence. Montibon and Lauina are very nimble for such big guys. They looked like Ali during the OL drills, very light on their feet.

I’m not sure what to think about the defense at this point. Perhaps it was simply a lot of the 2nd string guys getting reps. I hope there is more pressure from d-line and lbs in the real games.

Offense looks very capable and it should be a fun year. Luton was easily making those sideline throws 20 yds downfield, and on time, several variations of that route but nothing vertical downfield that I saw.

  13. Think Luton will do a good job at QB. Seems pretty comfortable and makes the throws. Almost has a young Brady vibe about him. If the rest of the team gives him plenty of help I think he will make plenty of believers this year. His height is good and all about distributing to all the talent at RB around him and to his receivers as the defenses allow. Seems to have a good head on his shoulders too.

    • It’s hard to tell much from these reports. They’re wrong every year. We won’t know until game 1. It should be obvious right away.

      • It was tough to get a good read from watching them live today because:
        1. It was the ones vs the twos again
        2. The ones really didn’t appear to play at full speed.
        3. The play calling was pretty watered down. No deep attempts, not much passing overall.
        4. The defense was playing to contact but plays were called dead before any hard hitting or collisions occured.
        5. I saw much more of Garretson/Blount/Willard today than Luton.

        The positives:
1.we look like a competent football team. The last two years I couldn’t say that after scrimmages.
        2. The plays happen with less standing around trying to get the signal called in and trying to get the players organized. This results in far less down time between plays or uptempo.
        3. On the ground, we appear to be able to grind out 5+ yards at will. All of the backs look as good as advertised. I even thought Baylor was impressive in limited reps.(Tre Johnson in a walking boot after practice will help get tyler on the field.)
        4. Our O-Line didn’t look like a weak link, like I was afraid of coming into summer
        5. Our kicker looks to be perfect in 7 field goal attempts in the scrimmages, with a couple even from 50 yards last week.

        • I did see a couple of fumbles today. Tuner lost one but got it back and the center exchange with Blount on one play was fumbled/recovered bit then the play was called dead after recovery. Not sure who played center on that one.

Luton seemed to hit guys in stride in the handful of attempts I saw from him. Something I haven’t seen from an OSU qb since……Moevao/Canfield? It’s been awhile.

Also, heard a rumor the reason why Garcia left had nothing to do with academics. He just couldn’t handle coaches getting on his ass for blown assignments and he decided to quit rather than learn from the criticism. Seems to be an issue with kids from Bellvue HS

  14. Did anybody see the bounce houses anywhere today?
I’ve already bitched enough about the athletic department bait and switching with the movie portion of family day, but they didn’t even deliver on the 2 other things they originally advertised. There were no kid activities anywhere and they didn’t allow fans onto the field following the game for autographs. Instead, everybody piled up along the front row and hoped that the player they wanted to meet would walk by. Several players were very accomodating in that regard and they were all very friendly, but why not let the fans walk around instead of piling up?
I sat near a few player parents and they were disappointed with the way family day was handled. Several fans with smaller kids mentioned the same. By contrast, at the spring game everybody could walk on the field.

One other small detail. I know players like to warm up and play with hiphop music in the background, but maybe next time you have family day, play the intrumental version.
Don’t really need guys talking about their “murder game” or “suck and swallow it” playing for the kids. Seems like an easy fix.

Attention to detail is all I ask for

  15. One other note. I saw the beat reporters from Beaversedge(Brenden) and Beaverblitz (Amy?) walking around the stadium pre scrimmage, trying to find somebody/anybody who could get them access to the right parts of the stadium. They both looked visibly frustrated with the lack of organization at the scrimmage and I could hear one of them muttering “of course…” out of frustration after multiple attempts to get inside failed.
Also got to see Angie post scrimmage trying to get into the Valley Center, but the front doors were locked. She tried them over and over (nope, still locked)

Overall, the athletic department did not impress with their presentation today. The football team did their part, and the people running security were all friendly and did a fine job, but the overall organization felt a little Keystone Cops-like to me and people I was around.

  16. Not sure about burning Tyler’s redshirt but seems decision has bee made. Would have been a few years where he could be a Top 2 back for us but this year I expect mostly special teams. I guess Andersen thinks the special teams contribution could be one of the small differences that gets the Beavers into a Bowl in Year 3 and GA is set on making one in 2017.

    • GA probably wants to sell that he’s starting young players. Tyler can help on ST and the depth (he can easily move up to 3 or higher and get some carries b/c Nall is always hurt)

  17. Nicebeaver, great takes!

I was there with my wife and young kids…..overall, we had a good time, but in general, I agree that the OSU AD is disorganized….not impressed with the movie thing, lack of kid activities, etc….we did the photo thing when we got there and that was ok……then we got some food for the kids….we watched the scrimmage, which was basically me watchin with my roster, while my kids lost interest more by the minute…..I expected that……my kids were excited for autographs, and thE players were gracious……I was really impressed with Noah Togiai……talk about a humble, gracious young man….he’s my current fave…..Tyner was a bit standoffish and wouldn’t sign anything other than the provided posters, which I found odd….my 4 year old son essentially dictates how long we stay at things….not that we indulge him, but those of you who are parents understand…..so we took off pretty quickly after getting a few autographs…..I’m disappointed we didn’t get to go onto the field……my kids wouldve loved that!…..bottomline, OSU needs to step up their game in marketing to fans, their ticket office, etc……there is a lack of leadership in some of these areas and it really shows during events like this, or when the Beavs baseball team makes the postseason……seems like a lot scrambling and wingin it…..confusion and miscommunication ensues…

So with the lack of family stuff to do, we decided to go get lunch at 2 stones over by Winco……I highly recommend this place….their wood fire pizzas are incredible! And the folks there are great!

    • For us, Tyner was kindof the opposite. I think he was the last guy out there signing because he had done some interviews right after the game. He signed my daughters autograph book and then signed my 2 year old’s football.
Otherwise our overall experience was much like yours.
I wonder if this is a sign of things to be under Barnes, or if he just hasn’t had time yet to get his system in place? Or maybe it’d bipriduct of having a revolving door at AD the last few years? Like maybe bad habits were formed over those years while there was very little oversight. Whatever the reason “scrambling and winging it” is a very appropriate description of the current state of our AD, and it’s painfully obvious to those of us who attend events.

      • The ticket office for baseball postseason was a joke…..my dad and I were given all kinds of wrong info…..I get that by nature, things like that are kind of last minute scrambling, but with a lack of solid leadership, chaos ensues.

The thing is, OSU asks a lot of money for their their product……that price should include a more professional experience for those paying.

  18. As for the scrimmage itself, some quick takes from what I saw..

Luton to Togiai, get used to that!
Our RB stable is even better than I thought
O line seemed pretty solid, at least from what I could tell
Our secondary has some players…..should be some fierce competition there.
Adan Willard looked good in limited action, with a nice drive.
DG was a bit squirrely as per usual

    • I meant to comment on DG. I thought he looked steady and will make a nice option at QB. His threat to keep the ball and run will be a weapon against certain teams this year and I wouldnt be surprised to see DG start some games this year.

      • I feel like DG gets sketched out in pocket too quickly…..I dunno, I’m no expert QB analyst…..he’s got the skillset, I just don’t know that he’s ever really settled in here at OSU…..he looked much better at Utah St. When he came in for an injured Chuckie Keaton.

  19. I think the player’s desires factor in as well. If a player is good enough to contribute, it’s bad for morale to make them redshirt. Especially in a case like this, where his biggest issue is a stacked depth chart.

You want all your freshmen to know that they can play their way onto the field if they’re good enough.
Helps recruiting as well as allows you to get the most out of everyone from day 1.

Relatedly, I don’t think we’re going to miss TJ Miller. Nice job by the staff replacing him.

  20. I wonder how long GA’s leash on Luton will be come game time.. Will he come out after two or three scoreless series? Considering how he kept pulling McM and DG like that during games, it’ll be be interesting. Wouldn’t be surprised to see DG early if Lute doesn’t perform.

    • “Will he come out after two or three scoreless series? ”

Seems unlikely. Fair or not, I don’t think the leash will be that short. And with MM gone, there really isn’t much of an alternative. I don’t think Garretson is going to set the PAC on fire with his throwing, and his arm limitations limit the offense. He’ll get some series to have the run threat, but overall I think Luton will have a fairly long leash.

Anyone remember Matt Moore’s first year? There was a game agains AZ(?) where he threw like 5 INTs or something crazy. But Moore turned out great, hoping Luton can show intelligence/growth like Moore did. Without as many first year INTs…

    • I think Luton has a longer leash than some may think……I’ve wanted to believe in DG…..I just don’t have much confidence in his ability to drive a team down the field consistently

  21. Something i noticed as far as Andersen goes with recruiting is that he has potential starters or at least 2 deep at almost every position from this class. Luton, montibon, hodgins, morris, dunn, ah hoy, and evans if he makes it in. Thats pretty impressive and a good sign. We’ll have to wait and see how it turns out but my gut tells me that good things are ahead.

  22. The planning for this past weekend by the athletic department was piss poor. There was no excitement, everyone there seemed to be in a somber manner because no one was smiling.

No wonder few elite recruits want to come to OSU. These events are very dull.

  23. At least the OC had enough sense to keep running the ball against the Ducks, that is 20 times better than the Alamo Bowl with Langsdorf.
Give McGiven a chance with a qb, tight end and some running game behind him. I think the offense will be better than we expect with all the skill guys in place.

  24. I have a good feeling about this season…….teams take on the personality of their HC, and I like Andersens no nonsense, hard nosed personality……..that, along with enough talent at the right positions, and more depth……this team is going to outperform expectations I think.

    • If Luton is any good, yeah. I think most of us expect 6 wins this year based on what we’re seeing, with a little upside possible, too.

    • Not only depth at the key positions, but also the fact that we now have 8 OL that can rotate in and out easily adds continuity and depth that we haven’t seen in a very long time. I’d say if this team can go all the way back to the 1999-2000 fiesta bowl team where our defense was our strength, we have a really good RB group, tall receivers, and a tight end that our QB will feed the ball. I can’t remember the last time our offense used the tight end as much as we did with Jonus Newton!

  25. On a twitter message group, Jason Young mentioned the attendance totals from the movie in reser tonight. Family fun day Part Deux, complete with the bounce houses they didn’t have yesterday.

    80 people.

I bet the sponsor loved that.

  26. I tried finding CSU blogs and I came across RamNation here: http://chat.coloradostate.sportswar.com/message_board/ramnationathletics/

All they care about is beating CU. They also mention they have WR corps of 6′ 2″ to 6′ 3″ while they’re CB corps are about 3-5″ shorter than their WR corps. Could be an interesting match up with our O vs their D and visa versa.

Ryan Katz wore number 12….know what else is 12? 12 days until CSU game!

    • Not sure they are overlooking us, cuz it’s the first game in their new stadium, but them having the Buffs the following week is definately a distraction for them…..they play at CU as well.

I just hope our offensive braintrust can script a plan to put Luton in a position to move the chains immediately, quiet the crowd, and control the game……I think our D has their work cut out for em…..Luton is gonna need to give em a rest.

  27. How big of an advantage is it for us that Dave Baldwin coached for Colorado State? Has their DC changed since he left?

    Comments? Insults?

  28. With McMaryion gone and Garretson graduating this year, who is the number two QB next year?

I haven’t heard great stuff about Blount. Do we get another juco or transfer QB this offseason?

    • Could be wrong, but from memory I believe Wilard suffered from the same low completion % like Luton. Raw. Pretty good runner. Petras looks like a refined QB. The best GA QB recruit thus far.

      • Yeah i think petras is the future of this program. Hopefully he is very solid because i think he’s poised for a big senior year. It would suck if some program came in and poached him.

      • Looks like a slightly taller, more athletic version of Garretson? He’ll need to improve arm and core strength in his RS year.

Petras looks good and think he sticks with OSU commitment.

      • “I believe Wilard suffered from the same low completion % like Luton.”

Yep, both ran the Veer, which leads to low completion percentages.

    • No wonder he was injured most of his senior season. Guy seeks out contact on almost every play.
Not sure what the level of competition is like down in Napa Valley.

      • Williard was part of that 7v7 TMP crew right? So presumably he got plenty of experience throwing against elite DBs, regardless of his HS competition.

          • B level high school comp not terrible ball up there. I believe the school that coach Hall at is in the same league as Napa and that program and a couple other Central Valley teams are always legit.what I liked about his tape was he went through his progressive super fast and kept his eyes down field when there was pocket traffic. Feels like one of those guys who will just make plays for you. I get a Ben Rothelisburger type vibe from him. Not pretty but effective.

  29. Awesome, reports out of practice are that Luton was throwing dimes and Villy specifically was dropping balls today. Figure it out man!!

  30. Is Danny doing his routine background check on all of these football guys as well. He has had several feel good articles (not reading them, just see the title scroll) lately. WHY is GA and OSU athletics allowing Moran or the Oregonian near any players?
Freedom of the press, sure, but no one should leave the door open to “Yellow Journalism” and purposeful click bait.

  31. repeat, rinse, repeat – Moran was tipped off. Girl’s mother? He and Gina tweet or link articles they are working on – it would take nothing – one phone call to start the witch hunt. Moreover, Moran has never retracted his assertion that Heimlich failed to register in Corvallis, nor has he pointed out the Corvallis police department’s screw-up.

I hope Moran will be gone before baseball write-ups begin. He’s either thick-skinned or self-righteous if he doesn’t understand how his so-called beat

      • I think the Oregonian has figured out that Danny’s numbers are down because once you click on an o-live article (and I only read Gina) they now obscure who the writers are of the articles in the queue below it, in order, in my opinion, to obscure the ones Moran has written. You have to back out to the sports home page to see who has written what, which I do now even though it’s a hassle in order to punish journalistic malfeasance.

          • Everyone ha a choice.

When you choose to support someone devoid of morals because he promises you something over “others,” you are also devoid of morals… and you are not free.

Enjoy your leash. It will get shorter if he who you support has any kind of success. So says the whole of history.

  32. Hope David Morris can end up being our other starting safety. Good size and speed and seems like a better athlete than some of our other options back there.

    • dunno if this is a common phrase “like a loan request from a Nigerian prince,” but I think it’s hilarious. OSU missed that guy not to mention- Cooper Kupp, Darson Wentz, Kellen Moore,

    • I can understand coaches get too many emails from potential recruits, but if I was a coach I would hire someone to look at every video sent to me. That’s how you find the hidden gems.

    • dunno if this is a common phrase “like a loan request from a Nigerian prince,” I think it’s pretty funny. OSU missed that guy not to mention- Cooper Kupp, Carson Wentz, Kellen Moore, Vernon Adams, Jr., and probably others because neither Craig Bohl, Beau Baldwin, nor Craig Peterson were coaching in Corvallis.

These finds are rare and make great stories and who knows how many others we’ll never hear about are out there. If nothing else, they spoof the recruiting services (I can’t believe Andrew what’s-his-name has a JOB reporting on the information they give him).

  33. That shitty radio station in Portland that hosts John Canzano’s show and plays Dolphin2 ads while endorsing the Canzano’s Children’s foundation, also had that turd Dino Costa hosting a show the past few months, until today when they fired his ass.

Apparently when he suggested people run over BLM protestors in the street last month, he hadn”t crossed the line. But this week, with his on air support for David Duke in the days after the events in Charlottesville, he must have finally found that line that can’t be crossed in Portland.

Oh, and he deleted his twitter acct shortly after being fired, so you won’t be able to wish him happy trails.

  34. OT: Got a kick out of an item I stumbled upon while checking Football Scoop. Seems u of nike is accepting applications for “…a volunteer, UNPAID, position (which) offers Division I experience and training in an educational environment and the opportunity for future recommendations or opportunities in the field of strength and conditioning. That’s not my editing, the announcement did capitalize UNPAID….for a volunteer position!

The real joke is that the “preferred qualifications” for applying exceed those of the dufus slick willie initially had as his S&C coach! It’s preferred that the prospective, unpaid interns actually have some education in the field of exercise science!

    • A video from Tinkle was just played on Fox News confirming they are all okay, but could see fatalities from their hotel windows.
