General Discussion & Chat Function Update

44

I just wanted to give the archaic Internet Explorer users a heads up that the chat should now work in IE8 if you use "Compatibility View".

It's still not perfect, but it's much better and is at least functional. Download Firefox, Chrome, or Safari if you want a better web experience in general.

That's all I've got.

Feel free to use this space as a general discussion of anything you wish. There's not a whole heck of a lot going on right now. Hey, our gymnastics team is ranked #7 in the country. Maybe we should start following them?

  1. Hey Angry,

I was very busy this summer on all the Big 12, Big Ten and SEC message boards trying to help the Pac-16 cause..not that it did any good and I know you were kinda against the Pac-16 even though I really wanted it because we would have been the rival of the SEC forever I thought.

Anyway, I learnt that certain baords like huskerboard.com (NU), hookem (UT) and the Okie St baords were very good. On alot of these baord it was very east to insert emoticons and especially pictures and people had ALOT of fun with that and it helped spark creativity and just make the boards more interesting. People even were taking screenshots from famous movies as part of a punchline for a comment or something and it was pretty cool. Just wanted to see if you could incorporate that sort of tagging of images in angrybeavs that would make it come alive that much more and allow people’s personalities to come across. People could have avatar images even if they wanted. Check out a couple of those boards if you can as I think if you incorporated some of the best elements from a few then angrybeavs could be as good as any board in the Big 12, Big Ten or anywhere. Go Beavs!

    :)

      • As you can probably tell from my site designs, I’m a zen/minimal person. You should see my bedroom/apartment.

It would be really hard for me to deal with huge images/avatars etc. You can still be creative and individual here, just do it with your words, mind, and wit instead of a big, gangly image. What makes this site great (imo) is that everyone who posts here is smart, respectful (to each other at least), and funny.

      In short, no. :p

      • Like I said, she must have added that on the first inception of this blog. I think back then I allowed the avatars. Then some jerk put up a big, ugly avatar, so I quickly removed that option. But if you got in before I did that it stuck and migrated over to here.

Edit: okay, that reply had 10000000 typos. Sorry.

        • booo let the people have their gravatars. they’re tiny and have a built in size limit. glad i sneaked mine in early on ya tyrant :p

          • Yeah..I wish small avatars were still Ok BeavGirl. I have a funny Benny from NCAA Football ’11 but it is general release and not directly from the game so shouldn’t be any copy right concerns or anything. I think it would cheer up a few fans. Maybe Angry could reserve the right to remove the too obnoxious ones but let a few more people have their own feel with a custom thumbnail avatar…dare to dream. ;)

  2. So Angry, is that a diagram of Coach R’s white board? Trying to teach his players compatibility while calling them tools?

Okay, that was lame, sorry – I’m tired.

  3. We signed Michael Balfour today. I’m not sure if it’s a walk-on, greyshirt, or standard scholie. Anything know about this guy? He’s a local.

  4. He’s going to be a H-Back I see. Probably will be an All American with such a phenomenal coaching staff coaching him up. haha lol

  5. Balfour is a perfect walk-on for the program. He’s a borderline offer, but his best position is FB. He’s a better LB than is Logan Mayes of Marist, and he outplayed Mayes in the championship game for 5A this year–the only close game for either Marist or Sherwood for the whole season. More impressive in his performance during that game is that when he didn’t get the ball on offense (19 carries for 75 yds), he had to put a hat on Matthew Devereux as a decoy/blocker.

Devereux is another who should get consideration, but I think he has Air Force and some Ivy League schools as official offers. At 6’3″, 280#, I would go to the Ivy League and enjoy college.

    • I was thinking he’d play on the other side too…seems he could be good at LB, especially in that 3-4! I’m for any decent walk ons. Why not? You get locals, hard workers, and they don’t eat up schollies. Hanging your hat on the WO program won’t get you far…even at Nebraska they usually have just a few, but they end up being huge in the program. It’s good Ju Ju…unless you can’t afford to eat, since you aren’t sitting with the ‘have’s’ at the training table for all your meals.

  6. So we have Kyle Gardner from Crescent Valley and Michael Balfour from Sherwood. Those are good walk-on prospects. What the hell happened to Chris Gonzalez from Centennial in Corona? The kid is an outstanding DB, and you can’t tell me nobody watched him play this year. All his teammates are going big time, including Larry Scott.

  7. Someone posted this in another thread. It might get lost:

“interestingly the #15 nationally ranked punter in the Chris Sailer 2010 Class enrolled at OSU last fall, and has asked for a shot to prove himself this coming spring, and was told no thanks…”

    • Sailer makes his Top 12 list according to the year the participants go to his camp and are first eligible for a scholarship. So technically Allen and Barker (two of Sailer’s Top 12 in the 2010 Class) were involved with OSU football and in his rankings.

Keith Kostol walked on as a back-up P last year. Is that who we’re talking about?

    • I’m not sure, that’s all the commenter said. I do remember recently we had a highly regarded punter enroll; that’s probably Kostol. I hope we’re not talking about him, especially with Hekker being a senior.

    • His QB from last year was Ethan Sterkel, and he went to CWU. I think a lot of people expected Ferrell to have a big drop off with Sterkel leaving because his 2008 and 2009 numbers were just gaudy for a soph and junior. Ferrell’s numbers were down this year (I think 50 catches, 1000 yards and 10-15 TD’s). But he also grew a couple inches (5’11”-6′) and he has really good speed (4.4-4.5 range).

He’s not ‘Mike Hass’ good (or as extremely underrated) at receiver, but he’s faster, and he’s pretty smart. I would expect him to get his start at DB and possibly work his way into playing time later in his career.

We might also have to wait until summer to see where he goes as well. He’s a pretty good pitcher/IF as well.

  8. I’m not sure if anyone noticed, but Peter Ashton got his completion percentage up to 55% this year. Last year he was at 47%. That’s pretty huge improvement. Of course, we don’t know the talent level of his WRs and how much of this is their doing, but either way it’s nice to see the number go up.

    • Good size for a PG at 6’2″. Not much info on the guy in English. I was hoping we would land a serviceable wing in the mold of Seth Tarver but we could us a PG with some Euro passing skills. Still got to wonder who is going to play wing. I guess Collier can in stretches but were better off with him at the 4, is Rhys Murphy or Eric Moreland going to be healthy/productive? Should be interesting to see how it works… could be a solid off the radar guy.

cinema is one hot spot we’ve shown you before. 15, 2012, in the parking lot and watching the lights. The Board must set direction and goals, decide on what monies can be spent based on what is really available, and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts are interred here.
