Andersen Hires DC and Secondary Coach

392

From footballscope.

Oregon State: Per sources, Gary Andersen is planning to hire Utah State defensive coordinator Kevin Clune as defensive coordinator and Weber State secondary coach Cory Hall barring any unexpected issues.

Had a feeling it would be Clune. One thing I didn’t like about Clune on the youtube video I watched, is that he made fun of players (said one was so thin he’d neg him and say he looked ill). I don’t find that funny or professional coming from a teacher/authority figure.

The other question is whether he can recruit.

I don’t know anything about Cory Hall, so if you do lay it on me.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

You guys didn’t like the last thread? Well Merry Christmas, here is a new one.

Barring any big news/hires I’ll be back Jan 1. Use this as a general thread until then.

Enjoy the holiday break, and remember to spike your eggnog, and if Angry@angry’s siblings post here, please give him an atomic wedgie and kick him in the nuts for me.

Time to Question Gary Andersen

296
  1. Bringing in Seth Collins to play QB.
  2. Bringing in a DC who would very likely be gone after a year or two, while in the process of (at least) a 3 year rebuild.
  3. Demoting Baldwin. This is a big deal, because Baldwin has ties to all the Bay Area recruits, and that move closed the door on many 2017 Bay Area kids. What is more odd is Baldwin was not that bad considering he had no QB to work with and was probably compensating for that with “creative” (bizarre) play calls. Crowton comes on as a consultant, and suddenly Crowton’s son in law is the offensive coordinator? I think GA lets people get in his ear and is maybe easily influenced by outside [coaches’] opinions, especially since he claims to know little about offense.

Year 2 of a rebuild should not have this much disarray. The McGiven/Baldwin situation is really disturbing, too, with regard to recruiting. Something smells rotten with that situation, and I would not be surprised to see Baldwin leave entirely. People might think that’s not big deal, but he has major recruiting ties (e.g. no 4-star Thompson without Baldwin).

Nothing scares off recruits more than shifting coaches and/or losing coaches. With Crowton, it was a too many cooks in the kitchen situation. If you didn’t trust Baldwin after half a season why hire him to begin with? Andersen really messed up this year. Two wins is one thing, and something many expected, but his handling of the rest was poor for such an experienced coach. It feels like something weird is going on behind the scenes.
