Tony White?

Shelton is quoted as saying he's still a Beaver, and a lot of it is due to him liking the guy Mike Riley plans to hire. Well, SDSU recruited Shelton, and Tony White was his lead recruiter.

Speculation, but not far fetched to think White will be the hire. If true, it would be a home run.

General Complaints

While we wait and hope for (a) a new DB coach, (b) reaffirmation from commits, (c) any good news, there's a lot to complain about. This is an area to do that.

Hoops struggles, recruiting collapse, coach/recruit poaching, etc. All fair game. Biggest issue I have right now: Riley not hiring someone ASAP. Dude has had over a week now to address the issue and save his best class. Meanwhile, not a peep.

Tough times. Let it out.

Recruiting Update

Cleveland Wallace visited Washington this weekend. Nice to see Heyward keep his word and not pursue his guys. /sarcasm

Seumalo had a great trip to USC. I think we're going to be okay, but might have to sweat it out.

Lawler had a good trip, but he is visiting Washington State next week.

Shelton didn't commit on his trip to Nebraska. Good sign. He's also thinking of calling off his TN trip. One can read that many ways. Personally I think it is good news given he didn't commit or rave about Nebraska. 60% chance he signs as of today. We'll see.

Kendell Hill, Brice, and Noland are all solid after their visits.

Caleb Smith visited ASU this weekend–it seems to me he's looking for any reason not to be a Beav, and the ASU co-eds might do the trick.

Basketball: Oregon State @ Arizona State

Got caught up watching the NFL games and completely forgot.

Game thread!

Edit: Wow, bad start…looks like they'll be exerting valuable energy trying to catch up (again)…

Missed Opportunities are Disconcerting

Jonathan Smith to Boise State.

Keith Heyward to Washington.

With the latter, OSU gave no counter offer. The former, they showed no interest.

Then factor in coaches like Mike Leach. Many fans didn't want him, but it would have been nice to entertain the idea. There have been plenty of situations like that over the last few years.

By being locked in to the status quo, OSU doesn't allow their program the versatility to improve when there's opportunity. In finance, this would be like putting all one's money into an illiquid and depreciating asset, such as a home, and then having no cash to buy the Dow Jones when it crashes to 1000. Such an investor could only watch this once in a lifetime wealth-building opportunity. Maneuverability, versatility, etc are good things. My brother is locked into a house, wife, and kids up in San Jose. I live with my girlfriend in Santa Barbara, have no children, and I rent. He tells me all the time how jealous he is that I can up and go wherever I wish for whatever reason I want at any time (and I concur). OSU has locked themselves into 9+ more years of the status quo, and watching program-improving coaches pass them by or move on is very disconcerting.
