Home Football Assessing Gary Andersen

Assessing Gary Andersen

202

I’d like to hear thoughts based on this assessment of a coach, which I thought was pretty fair.

My grades, based off what I have seen so far.

Vision: B
Leadership: B- (Issues with moving coaches, assigning co-coordinators, losing coaches, moving players, etc).
Technical Ability: C+ (he knows little about offense, for example, and doesn’t seem to want to learn)
Passion: A
High Performance: A-
Communication: A
Teaching Ability: B-
Identify and Recruit Talent: B

Let’s hear your grades.

We’re almost a year and a half into this change. Curious to hear if people are getting antsy. There’s a lot of rumbling that something is rotten in the State of Denmark, but nobody ever elaborates. I do feel a weird aura with this staff, but I can’t pinpoint a single issue that’s major cause for concern.

    • They say “does the coach have the capacity…high performance mindset”…I do think he has the capacity to create a strong minded team, but just hasn’t gotten it done yet.

      • 2-10 record is F for almost every category man. Riley never even did that. Andersen left Wisconsin cause it was too tough and wanted a safety blanket. He got it with a right wing fan base that hates Riley.

  1. Recruiting is the biggest issue to me. His biggest recruit in his first full cycle won’t make it into school. It sounds like Thompson didn’t even have a shot at qualifying so a lot of wasted effort or it was all for show.

The most effort should be put into landing a top QB. Not a 3 star but a high 4 star. Look at Cal and WSU, they have been able to come out of the basement, largely because of their QBs. A guy who can come and play right away. Unfortunately, the 2017 QB class is mostly locked up. A game manager like Garretson isn’t going to push the team over the top.

Andersen can keep the fan base interested with good recruiting. But with Thompson not coming, it’s hard to stay positive about the incoming freshmen class. Makes me wonder, who else won’t make it in?

      • It’s a fair grade. I originally gave him a C then changed it. Reason being I believe a lot of the 2 and 3 star guys he’s getting are MUCH better than the services say, and also much better than the ones Riley had coming in.

        • How is that thinking any different when Riley was here? “They aren’t five stars when the come in but are when they leave” or “We project the guy 3 or 4 years out”.

Andersen needs to be landing four to five guys every year who are at least consensus 4 stars (who also make it into school).

          • Those players were apparent on Riley’s teams too. But they started fading in numbers after Gilstrap died. And the worst of it for a long period was his specific position group. Apparently you can’t just sign any old 2* player and turn him into a 5* over time.

    • >The most effort should be put into landing a top QB. Not a 3 star but a high 4 star. Look at Cal and WSU, they have been able to come out of the basement, largely because of their QBs.

Wazzu is a terrible example for your point. Luke Falk was a walk on.

    • Luke falk was a walkon and a 2* recruit at WSU and was forced into action because of injuries. He didn’t come in and play right away.

        • *sniff*

          don’t need him any… *sniff*… way

The ashtray and the paddle game… that’s all I need… and the remote control.

        • Must be an exception for the lds kids to go visit the holy land during their mission. He isn’t stationed too far away, somewhere in SoCal, but yeah……a little surprised to see him photographed at a football event.

  2. Really?! Why are you using an article from the Australian Football League (which is basically rugby) as inspiration for your critique of an American College Football coach?

    • You are very, very wrong to say Aussie Rules footie is basically rugby. I played one and watched a lot of the other while living down under. Or perhaps you’re not talking about Australian Rules Football?

  3. Technical Ability grade should be a solid C, drop the +. At least he knows enough to say that he doesn’t know anything about offense. But having no desire to learn (thus unable to monitor) is major hindrance imo.

  4. Thank you for bringing this to our attention… I just used this chart as an evaluator for our baseball coaching staff… In sure you won’t be surprised that Casey received an A++++++++++++ in all categories.

  5. I think that “knowing nothing” about offense is a stretch. He played center in (an albeit small) college. That’s a pretty technical position. Does he recognize that there are OCs out there that know more than he does? Seems like he does and when he says that he doesn’t know anything about the offense, my sense is that it is a humble admission that he wants to surround himself with someone who is an expert.

  6. Under communication you graded him an A. I agree he does come off as having his message well thought out prior to opening his mouth, but I also feel like he almost says too much rather than shortened “to the point” bits. After a press conference I sometimes come away thinking it was like taking a drink from a firehose. I just wonder how well that works with student athletes who are trying to take everything in and learn at the same time? Or maybe that’s the reason for the lower grade under teaching?

  7. I don’t think I’d give Andersen an A in communication for several reasons. 1) He has notoriously been less than kind to the media who were just trying to do their jobs and learn about him and the staff B) He calls out players in the media…that needs to be kept in the locker room, and C) He’s dropped communication to recruits without warning, leaving them wondering “what happened?”

    • Well that’s why I give my grades and ask for yours. So go ahead and give yours, and if you want to elaborate on why then say so.

Edit: apparently I didn’t ask for yours…in the original draft I did, but must have been lost. Anyway, let’s hear your grades.

  8. Let’s see cites for 1 and c? He has seemed open in every media session I’ve seen, I can’t remember once when he refused to comment. And who did he stop recruiting?

  9. As someone above mentioned, this is a relevant exercise only in a comparative context with Riley.
    Thus.
    Anderson Riley

    Vision A B
    Leadership A C
    Tech. Ability C B
    High Perform. B C
    Communication A D
    Teaching Ability C A
    ID & recruit talent B B

  10. I don’t care to spend time comparing Andersen to Riley. So far, here are the grades I feel Andersen deserves:
    Vision: B+
    Leadership:B
    Tech:C+
    Passion:A
    High Performance:A
    Commo:B+
    Teaching:B-
    ID and Recruit:B

I tried to apply grades strictly to the specific criteria as listed in the article.
After reading those criteria I found it interesting that nothing is directly related to proven performance/results on the field of play. Probably a good approach for the first year or two of an individuals tenure.

I’m not antsy. If the coming season results in less than 4 wins or if the competitiveness of the team fades, then I would have to reevaluate.
I’m with angry here, “I do feel a weird aura with this staff, but I can’t pinpoint a single issue that’s major cause for concern.”

OT: BTW: Parker and Casey pissed at an umpire’s call in Keizer, Parker opines “a lot of calls went the wrong way in Arizona” I’m still waiting for more on why Casey was tossed in AZ while talking to his pitcher.

    • Knowing Casey, he probably asked the ump to toss him. It’s an old trick that feeds into the minds of the players and lets them know he’s frustrated at something… not necessarily them… but something… maybe we should focus on doing work and getting the hell out of practice quickly in the next week… that kind of frustration.

In baseball, you can’t really beat the kids. It’s even more of a head game than other sports. But giving the impression that the head man might be unstable for even a brief period could mean you end up being Wally Pipp redux if you don’t do your job.

        • They often do. Those are the best stories to tell over beers with the boys.

I think Lasorda got caught on mike doing it once. It was friggin hilarious. If you watch the show Billions (big Damien Lewis fan since BoB here), they did the same play in order to grift a renegade crew.

  11. On cue, Parker mentions that Casey was tossed (in AZ) for saying something to his team respecting (or perhaps NOT respecting) the ump. As suspected all along.

  12. t8, one on and Jake brings in his 4.42 ERA in relief of Fehmel. Comes in with an 0-2 count trailing the Pilots 7-5.

  13. Gary Andersen has been an absolute dumpster fire thus far.

    – Transfers (Mullaney, Del Rio, Mageo, etc…)
    – Loses DC after one year
    – Replaces OC after one year (You hand picked this guy you idiot)
    – Multiple forced “retirements”
    – 2-10
    – Significantly higher pay roll/New facilities/Expanded support staff = still can’t recruit

Get ready for 3-10 this year. Hip Hip Hooray! Wait what…

    • -besides Mullaney, who cares, they sucked.
-he’s an idiot not to take the job.
-still don’t know if that was forced or agreed upon.
-so we should be playing guys who can’t give 100%? Sounds like sage advise.
      -yeah that sucks
-still behind most of the pac12 in both payroll and facilities upgrades…………but by all means we should spend less……..that will bring in the recruits.

          • I agree.

Actually, my biggest gripe about the Anderson era is the mishandling of the quarterbacks last year. I’d like to say it wasn’t all his fault but even if he didn’t make the decision he hired the guy that did. It’s was puzzling to watch the coaching staff run decent to good quarterbacks off and it’s annoying to now watch them recruit guys that are similar to the guys they ran off last year.

Seriously, Anderson and crew would be all over this guy,and would be hailing the #10 dual threat quarterback in the country as the future of the program. Or, like a sweet 3rd string tight end…

“Brent VanderVeen, QB, 6-5, 210, Arroyo Grande, CA (Arroyo Grande)
Rivals three-star athlete; rated the No. 10 dual threat quarterback in the country and the No. 55 overall prospect in California threw for 2,422 yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior, and 1,402 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior 203 yards passing and 89 yards rushing in leading Arroyo Grande to the CIF Southern Section title in 2011 – the school’s first since 1998 first team all-area and All-Pac-7 ..

        • Went though OLive clickbait slideshow RE OSU QB recruits the past 10 years…. Jack Lomax. Dax Dilbeck?!? Offers from Army and Riley. Peter Ashton? offers: Eastern Kentucky, North Texas, Riley….More memorable: Katz, Vaz, Mannion,

In the Andersen era notable ones are Collins and Moran. Mason Moran offers: Air Force, Boston College, Colorado, Louisville, Massachusetts, Northwestern, UNLV, Andersen.

          • Mannion’s rivals profile doesn’t show any other offers, but the way i remember it, he committed way early and other teams backed off.

Katz shows AirForce, SJSU, Oregon, Wyoming, Utah, Washington

  14. just got back from the baseball game in Keizer. One bad inning dooms the Beavs again. 6 runs on 2 goddamn hits? Late Nate strikes again. What a shit show. This team just stinks right now and other than Eckert (who seems to be hit and miss) the pitching is just garbage. Portland is the WORST hitting team in the nation. Beavs appear to be getting worse not better. Oh well at least it was a nice evening and the beer and nachos were tasty.

    • Both schools are limping into the civil war this weekend. Oregon lost to Ganzaga tonight too.
You going to the civil war whiskey? If I see a drunken talking napkin staggering about, I’ll come say hi and buy you a shot.

      • unlikely as I agreed to walk in the super hero dash in Salem on Saturday. I’ll probably be watching this series from my couch. Getting older blows. And being a single parent. And commuting for work. I barely get out as it is and was glad I did tonight despite the loss. Responsibilities. Adulting is hard. Go stinky Beavs

      • KJ hit one out. First loss to the Pilots since 2007 IIRC. You can’t win them all but this team is in a serious funk right now. Pitching is not good.

All shit flicking aside, good that your kid had fun. I remember those days taking my sons to the ballpark when they were younger and keeping them entertained when they got bored. It’s tough.

Once my youngest came back from the drinking fountain at Goss almost completely naked at a Corvallis Knights game when he was 4 due to his clothes getting wet and him deciding he didn’t want to wear wet clothes. At least everyone else was laughing. Good times

  15. Baseball in a tailspin. Bad pitching and poor defense………the anti Casey team.
They are on the cusp of not making the tourney.

    GoBeavs90 says:
    FEBRUARY 21, 2016 AT 1:43 PM
    Rating: 0 (from 0 votes)
Eckert walks less guys than Thompson but really isn’t better. 11 hits in 4+ against a Minnesota squad that isn’t that good is pretty terrible and a lot of XBH. He can’t be started against Pac-12 squads.

The not very good team is still in the running for hosting.

    • And it turns out Eckert is much better than Thompson (just have to watch them to know that, but the stats bear it out).

Thompson 5.17 ERA in Pac and Eckert 3.40 in Pac.

Gobeavs thought they were the same…haha

  16. OT. This is out of the blue. Cuse fans are going to be butt hurt.
Syracuse University Director of Athletics Mark Coyle leaving for Minnesota
The Daily Orange – 1 hour ago

  17. The baseball team is what it is. Injuries to the Rasmussen and Tweedt really hurt the team. The bullpen depth would not have been exposed as much because the innings by the starters would have prevented Casey from using the back end of the bullpen.

I still think they’ll make in into the tourney. Not hosting. Might drop to a 3 seed. Get bounced in the regional.

It’s a shame because the talent level on the team was so high coming into the year. Casey is going to have work real hard to get the pitchers of the incoming class to come to OSU instead of going pro. Rasmussen probably won’t be ready for the start of next year.

  18. In alumni news,

Andrew Moore is off to a ridiculous start in A ball. 7 starts, 1.48 ERA. Probably in line for promotion in the second half of the year.

I think he projects as a 4 or 5 guy in the rotation.

      • Crowder is awesome if you’re a backwater rube and bigot. He’s truly an awful human being. I didn’t get in on the last thread but for the record, anyone against a social justice and awareness program for incoming students has shit for brains. This is the new America and moreso its the way America should be. If you don’t like it then you should get out! (Ha! I’ve always wanted to say that to conservatives.).

        • God I wish we had an ignore button.
Yes the new america, where you can be a lazy piece of shit and live off the hard work of others. Where you can shout people down and attack them for not having the same beliefs as you do. Where you can threaten the use of the courts to get your way. Where hurt feeling should be covered by the constitution. It’s funny to watch the butthurt from the left when they don’t agree with something, then revert to name calling and the same old “racist, xenophobic, bigot and on and on and on. Go cry to your picture of Marx and Stalin, maybe they can help you with your phobia of the conservatives. After all your just a “useful idiot”.
If you love your socialist/communist utopia so much why haven’t you left?

          • Dude!

Not a single thought you just wrote is original or even true. And it hasn’t been so since the 80s when all that crap was made up just to convince people to elect representatives to pass laws that would screw them.

Here’s a good thought exercise. Who benefits the most from welfare? Do campaign commercials correctly show rural white people, white seniors and corporate banking, insurance, agriculture, energy and warfare as those lazy shits living off America’s hard work?

The words and thoughts you parrot are from the welfare queen stereotype of La Whats-her-funny-black-name with the big screen TV leeching Murika’s white people dry.

            Congrats.

          • I don’t know what you need to experience first hand before you understand this country doesn’t give one shit for each other except for the COTUS saying the general welfare of the nation is worth something.

Most of the people I know who are or have been on food stamps were the same as me when I used them, in the military trying to raise a family. All the others I know are vets who are retired and on SSI in one or multiple forms.

Yes… your overlords are burning the candle at both ends.

          • That was rather candid.

            Agreed.

It’s why Bernie keeps asking for the transcripts from HRC’s WS speeches. He’s my imperfect candidate. I would so hammer her on the actual content instead of egging people on to google that shit.

HRC says WS criminals aren’t to blame for defrauding the American public! HRC thinks the American public is stupid and deserves at least incremental blame for being suckered!

        • I only said that Crowder fans are bigots and backwater rubes. He’s the worst.

However, I do disagree with you strongly on the topic of the social awareness training. So many kids come into college from insular communities in which they never saw a single person that didn’t look or think like them. It’s a good thing to introduce these 18 year old kids up front to the fact that they’ll now be faced with other viewpoints and that their own experiences aren’t intrinsically superior or ‘normal’.

You also seem to really dislike the word ‘force’, which I don’t get in this context. How is this any different than how all OSU students are ‘forced’ to take a general selection of core courses outside of their own major so that they end up well-rounded? Or more to the point, how dare the university force the students to pass their classes before they can be handed a degree?

        • Also, just out of curiosity, how do you identify if not conservative? At least with respect to this particular issue, your stance here seems to me to be the canonical conservative position. I get that broad labels are generally stupid since hardly anyone is a monolith that can be easily categorized, but at least on the social issues you’ve discussed here you definitely seem to me to fall into the conservative camp.

        • They’re going for the talk radio version of libertarianism. They don’t know they’re left of liberalism because they somewhy believe book reports, not books.

  19. Lazy? I worked my ass off to earn a PhD, and now presently work my ass off in my high paying job.
Live off the hard work of others? Nah, I very likely pay more taxes than you do.
Attack people for not having the beliefs I do? Kinda like how conservatives have attacked and discriminated against everyone that doesnt look or pray like them for basically ever?
Use the courts? You mean like your poster boy Donald Trump, who gets butthurt over the slightest insult and threatens to sue everyone in sight?
Why haven’t I left? Because I don’t need to. My side is winning.

    • Ack, sorry… I intended that to be below BlackBandits 4:59 PM post. Though I might be surly with regard to politics, I certainly don’t intend to clutter my favorite Beaver forum.

      • I’m OK with any of the above… or any combination thereof for that matter. Doctor Butthurt is actually pretty funny.

      • Hahahaha, right. There is literally no chance Hillary goes to jail. Like, none. Anyone who thinks that might actually happen gets their news from Fox New headlines.

        • I disagree. You must not be watching what’s going lately.

          Lying to the FBI
          Campaign fraud

That will at the very least drop her from consideration of being President. It’s getting to the point where they CAN”T let her keep going

        • She has as much chance of that as you or I. This will go down like Watergate with a bunch of people in jail and the leader(s) resigning,

          Sorry to burst your bubble.

        • Seriously… them’s losers’ words… without any doubt.

You can take your incremental ride to hell in a handbasket and present it as a hedge to the express ride. But you can’t deny that Hillary Rodham Clinton’s economic policy absolutely sucks just as much as any one of the GOP candidates. You just can’t do it.

I love the Jew who says love one another and do unto others. He’s good in my book. He is unwavering in his message for the whole of his life, and he has been right almost always. That makes him an excellent joke.

When HRC says publicly that Kissinger can suck Bill’s dick (literally with those words… because that man deserves that request every hour of every day for the rest of his life), but only with her disapproval… *wink*… and she needs to probably document it all for me to believe her… because she’s just an equivocating lawyer.

I’m voting for Jill Stein because she and her party’s platform most align with what I believe. It’s hard to explain to anything American what I truly believe because anyone American just doesn’t know what the fuck America is.

One of my grandfathers used to tease me with stories of this and that from around the world. And then he would end his stories with, “I’ll tell you the rest of the story once you have clearance.”

          Yeah.

I got clearance. You didn’t tell me anything that you teased. In fact, it all stacks up against your narrative, if you want to call it that.

          Fucking Grenada?

          My country is so shamed.

And HRC will just continue that shame with her love for realpolitik.

        • I love my country, and I’m glad it’s gradually moving in the direction that I think is best.

You need to specify what direction that might be. The person who will be the next president is ambiguous at best about everything she plans to do. In fact, she’s a roll back machine waiting to be elected.

If you can’t see who benefits from her future policies, then I’m guessing you don’t have any male children who will be sacrificed in the future just because electing a woman is that novel an idea.

I’ll put the question to you now. Where will HRC’s war be? Where will she cynically send young men to die for political capital and re-election? Grenada was Reagan’s shame. GHWB couldn’t lead poorly enough to nation build. So he got un-elected.

Here’s your hint. Billy with the slobbered Knob went after where? Where was it he failed to actually make a difference?

That’s my wager. Sudan is not in Asia, so we can’t make that land war joke. And it has to appear on the Clinton legacy as a huge stain until corrected.

How would Henry Kissinger deal with it?

How is Kissinger even a free man who has any say in political discourse in 2016?

Oh yeah! Troglodytes and morons buy his shit… as does our next POTUS.

          Why?

          Follow the money.

I also expect the new LBJ movie to be devoid the names Brown, Kellogg, Root, Lovett, Richardson, Weiss, Jones, et al.

And if you think HRC is different than any GOP candidate on sustainability, then you bought her Keystone argument even after it wasn’t ever her’s to sell. Ask your candidate about the six or seven crap pipelines that freely flow because of her endeavors.

She doesn’t work with anyone across the aisle. She enriches herself at the cost of our faith in her, and she has always done so. We should all be so lucky as to be bankrupt and vacating the White House. I’m sure we’ll hear about the Clinton Foundation in the next couple months. She who hates guns (so she says) just loves to sell them… to countries who make a “tax deductible” donation to her bottom line.

At least Doug Coe’s dominionism isn’t as bad as Rafael Cruz’ version. Can anyone tell me why Gran’pa Munster got any votes… besides his bible waving?

        • Oh… and when you feel like trotting out Billy’s jobs record you might want to direct people to the blog of the man who was in charge of the labor department at that time.

I’m kidding, of course. http://robertreich.org/ is a terrible place to direct anyone if they’re leaning as far to the right as HRC.

        • Oh I know. A foreign entity owning 20% of the US’s uranium is no big deal and the Secretary of state wouldn’t even need to hear about it.

    • “Why haven’t I left? Because I don’t need to. My side is winning.”

Around here that’s called birging Dr butthurt

      • Nope, I’m actively involved with my side, so I don’t need anyone else’s glory. A tiny bit of it is all mine!

        -Dr. Birgehurt

        • BIRG is an acronym… or maybe a Swiss Alp.

Birge was a physics prof at Cal. They have a building named after him and everything.

  20. Anybody who spends their life attacking something isn’t a balanced individual and it certainly isn’t worth spending your time reading their highly biased drivel. Crowder fits the mold.

Social justice courses are stupid no doubt. Most people will just do it, not pay attention and go on with their lives. As we all did during orientation.

    • Nobody thought anything about anything until yucks started making fucking laws about all of it.

But I guess you think the government should be in the business of making people be something other than what they are?

    • Education is completely legit and no one should have any issue with it. Brainwashing is not education. It’s getting weak minded people who can’t research or think for themselves behind your cause.

  21. So, back to the vastly more important topic of OSU sports:

Regarding Andersen, I’m not yet antsy at all. My bar was set so low coming out of the Riley era that I’m still just ecstatic to see all of the changes. Change for change’s sake isn’t a great philosophy, but it certainly has therapeutic value when I was resigned to the notion that Riley’s tenure at OSU would outlive me. It’s still a breath of fresh air to hear Andersen speak like he’s excited about the future.

As far as the letter grades go, I think the only one I’d quibble with Angry on is the Leadership. All of the shake-ups indicate to me that he is a strong leader who isn’t afraid to make pivots when something isn’t working. I expect things to stabilize in the coming years, but for the time being I would actually consider it a weakness if I didn’t see constant adjustments as he figures out his new team and staff.

      • Had never heard ‘regressive left’ before, but from my quick Wikipedia’ing I don’t think it describes me. From what I read, regressive left means people who turn a blind eye when minorities do douche-bag things because they think its un-PC to criticize minorities no matter what. That’s definitely not me.

I do however recognize that we have a system of iniquity and inequalities in this country, and the only people who don’t want it talked about are those who benefit from it. When someone says they don’t like social justice this or that, what I hear is someone saying they dig the status quo because it’s working out well for them personally.

        • Like massive important issues in inequalities like abolishing the segregation of bathrooms and making all bathrooms gender universal or like allowing men to play in women’s sports (if they “identify” as women in schools, right?

          • Yep, you got it.

Also, it’s the ones who are against letting trans people use whatever bathroom they feel safer in that are making a massive issue out of a molehill. … All they want is the ability to take a shit in peace without a significantly increased chance of being murdered whilst doing so.

        • I feel like you just agreed with me when you said it’s better if we openly recognize that inequality is a thing. That’s the entire purpose of the social awareness module… Anything else you guys have inferred about it is just fever dreams.

“You’re never going to regulate or shame away opinions”

So, slavery is still super popular and it’s only those damn laws subverting the will of the southern people?

        • Good job anticipating my response! It’s neat you can see the flaws in your own arguments, and then say them yourself first to act like they somehow don’t invalidate said arguments.

        • Lol, hate you guys? I genuinely like almost everybody here, yourself certainly included. You’re just full of shit on a few issues… but who isn’t? I have bigger fights about politics with my family all the time then this shit, and I love them to death.

          But, back to arguing:

The point isn’t to make everyone equal. You’re correct, that’s illusory. The goal should be that everyone is given an equal playing field, and to recognize that’s not actually the case at present since some have it better than others through no effort of their own. That shouldn’t be controversial, and I don’t understand the offense you all take to having it discussed with kids who are facing the real world for the first time. Social justice must mean something very different to you than it does to me.

More importantly, are black dick transplants seriously something we can do now? Technology is amazing!

        • “Or a Hitler reference”

          Godwin alert, Godwin alert!

Just kidding. Won thing that always makes me LOL, is the comparison of conservatives to Nazis. Apperantly the left talking heads don’t understand history or what a Nazi really is.

        • I think writing a critical blog for almost a decade is a bigger indicator of someone who thinks they always know best, than are my completely generic liberal views that are supported by basically half of the country’s population. I’m literally not into this stuff at all. It would have never even crossed my radar as something worth talking about until you all freaked out about it.

That said, please keep the blog going…. because you do often know pretty damn well about our Beavs.

        • It popped up a couple days ago, and people who had no idea what it was but thought they had reason started using it. I’ve not researched the source. I’m not sure it’s not an HRC tactic.

          Yes… she is that cynical.

So you might want to slow your roll. There are no “only” peeps. There are a bunch of contingencies. And you present a whole devoid of many of those contingencies. That makes me think you know the game better than you know any outcome.

          I do enjoy your contributions.

        • I recognize inequality just fine. It’s everywhere. And it is totally normal. To expect every person to be equal is irrational.

          WTF?

I guess this is correct in a world view sense. But equality is what makes the USA the USA. It is irrational. It was even gifted us by some sky deity. But it is written into our law. So we must abide by the irrational in order to maintain what we have. Otherwise, we just end up on the dung heap of history with the rest of the deregulated despots.

But hey! Maybe we can leave some stupid wall behind as our legacy to mankind.

      • Regressive left sounds like conservatives trying to disown the Clintons.

I don’t blame anyone for looking at the running joke that is Trump as a viable candidate. He isn’t bright, but he outshines idiot boy by thousands of lumens.

Fucking stop thinking libertarians are even remotely close to being conservative!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        WTF man?

        !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah… everything seems meaningless once someone in this world reads a fucking book.

And remember, I’m the only one here who has faith in humanity, not some pretend santa claus.

    • Maybe you should have led with that?

It was apparent always. Public input was requested despite all of Holden’s conspiracies presented here.

Do you see why someone might think these ideas might possibly be half-cocked?

  22. Agreed, this place is a totally awesome website. I’ve read it almost every day for probably 8 years now. I’ll probably even donate now that I’m finally among the gainfully employed, since I appreciate the place so much. That said, people say awful shit about people here all the time, e.g., sprained vulva this and mocking Mike Parker’s alcoholism that. Not to mention that asshole who likes to crack jokes about Whiskeys sister… Hehe, oh right. So let’s not get too high on any horses.

When did you apologize to someone on “my winning side”? If you think you’re in the right, then I doubt you’ve been apologizing to anyone (hence your “sorry-not-sorry”). In fact, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen you apologize for anything ever here.

And whos forcing you to give shits about transgendered people? All I’ve ever really seen is them asking to be treated like normal humans…. Which is to say they really don’t want people giving any particular shits about them at all.

    • 1) I doubt transgenderism is a major component of the course, which I’ve heard is all of a half hour. How’d we get on that topic in the first place? Oh right, Mammothboner69….
      2) Just because you’re awesome at this thing of treating other humans like humans doesn’t mean everyone else is. It’s probably easier and more cost-effective to just talk about it quickly with everyone coming through the door than it is to figure out whether each new student needs it on a case-by-case basis.
      3) You’re not an incoming freshman, so literally no one is wasting your time. I would make an educated guess that there are more current students there who are supportive of this than there are that are against it (while admitting that the largest group probably just don’t care). If the current student body supports this, then we old people ought to just shut up and let them do their thing…. it’s their school now.
      4) I’m not 100% certain that I actually agree with the last point I just made. It still feels like it’s my school.

      • 1) Conflation

This is an open forum. Many ideas are shared. Few are read. For the first time ever on this blog, just a couple days ago, someone got a tl;dr. Never mind that’s a shit life. That ain’t real. And it was wonderfully delicious because it was on a thread where people were whining about freedom of speech and nobody wanting to *sniff* listen to them.

        2) I can agree with this in bluntness. That makes its cheekiness redundant. I do approve because image is everything and all that.

        3) Really poor. Does not follow.

        4) You should be 2% agreed because you have to at least own that pile of that last idea.

      • Think about that for just one millisecond.

To those about to learn… we salute what you want to learn once you tell us what you want to learn.

      • This isn’t part of a degree program… Student governments vote on shit like this all the time. Nice job with the AC DC reference though.

  23. As an aside, best car?

And I don’t giggle as I type and the TV plays a Subaru commercial with Willie singing.

It doesn’t seem like a me problem.

    Maybe I’m right for once?

  24. GA gets an incomplete at this time. Losing DC to BYU put a fly in the recruiting plan.
The Baldwin situation is the most troubling. Demoting your hand picked guy after one year screams a lack of due dilegence or a lack of a true O plan. If the USt. tansfer gets hurt or sucks, the rebuild will really become harder. He needs some visible success to sell to donors and recruits.
The positive is that I think he truly cares about his players as people and not as pawns to use for his gain. Same vibe as Kill had here. I like the tough love approach.

      • I think most of the back story came out shortly after the whole episode, but Moevao’s involvement was just a blip on the radar. I just posted it as a “throwback thursday” post just because it came to mind randomly.

  25. Yes, he never meet the “girlfriend” face to face, I’m not sure if he video chatted either. Kind of pathetic really.

  26. You often overgeneralize and assume someone who is left is therefore some sort of misguided follower who wants to control others. What I often see is that people who tend to identify as libertarian feels they are the most “right” of all, because their beliefs are theory based and they just make up the outcomes to those beliefs in their head. And to add to it, they try to act like they’re above it all, outside of the two party system, although there’s as many followers there as anywhere else.

  27. Gotcha… not much there before they go off into regenerative brain studies… with the preconception of horror films to guide their shock.

    I recall this study:
    http://archive.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas/articles/2010/07/11/how_facts_backfire/
I’ll have to see if I can find the actual paper again.

And then there was this one on confirmation bias:
    http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0118093

Is that more like what you’re looking at?
