7:30, 7, and 3 starts.

First two games are on ESPNU, and the final game is on Pac-12. Gut says they take 2 of 3, but with the pitching so shaky I’m not confident in that.

Go Beavs.

  1. Hope they win the first two. My cousin gets his 2nd start for the quacks Sunday and I’m hoping he dominates the Beavs.
    Otherwise, GoBeavs

  2. Ok, who did the animated Build the Dam episode? Lol, it would be better without the Stephen Hawkins voices. I’d imagine that’s the only way to do it though.

    • Guilty. I was messing around with this animation program somebody at work showed me. I was just my first attempt, so it should get better if there’s an audience for it. This was the free/non-subscription version. If i pay a little i think it would have better voices. Might be a fun way to tell the recruiting story as we progress through the off season.

What do you think? Keep it going or no?

      • Episode 2 is coming along nicely. The construction team discovers mammoth bones while excavating the Valley Football Center. Hilarity ensues…….although I need to do some major dialogue editing. In it’s current state, i think it’s a little too rated ‘R’ for the best intended audience. I wont post the current link here, but if anybody wants a preview, DM the twitter acct.

  3. 42 pitches, lots in pressure situations. Eckert looks likely to not last more than 5 or 6 innings unless something changes (like getting ahead of the count!).

  4. Beavs playing like crap. When are they going to break free with 8 or 9 runs again? Probably time for Casey to retire in next 2-3 years if he can’t get these guys playing more dominant ball soon. Slump getting pretty ugly. Wake the F up Beavs!!

  5. Question on the Terrace…Oregon Stater mag from a year ago said plans included allowing fans to completely circumnavigate stadium during games. Was that before they decided to limit to 1500 those that could acess this area? Perhaps original plan was for it to be free flow through for all? Those designs look like maybe there was a ramp in the back that would allow fans to navigate around and then would require taking seversl steps up to get up to actual Terrace level where access could be restricted. However, I am not sure if current designs cut this out. From older image that was curvier it looked like this was below the back raised VIP seating.

        • I did go to airborne school and the unit is an airborne unit so we got to jump still but most of our jumps were Hollywood…. not the mass crazy jumps that the 82nd does

          • Yeah — my last several jumps I was jumpmaster and getting two sticks out the doors before we ran out of drop zone sometimes got…interesting.

      • You guys wanna solve the baseball problem? We should push Casey into retirement and hire a D3 coach. That’ll fix everything

          • The Rainers have about 10 guys on the roster with major league experience. Not exactly surprising that they are doing well.

        • Why don’t you offer a real solution to the baseball troubles instead extremism and sarcasm. Or maybe you don’t have a solution and you’re just hiding behind your fear that some of these posters might actually be right.

          • Wait… you’re going to literally troll someone by baiting them by name… then complain that their response is sarcasm?

          • Jack, you always try to come off as more intellectual than you really are and it makes your come off as retarded in reality.

          • Jack, you always try to come off as more intellectual than you really are and it makes your come off as retarded in reality.

Saved for posterity… or for when I need a good giggle. Why don’t you break down how it’s retarded, boner? It must be very easy for you to do, but I’m probably blind to it because I’m just some cuck.

            Poor me.

          • And t fun burglar, you don’t show up when you’re the one being trolled. You’re tired now. When will you understand you’re cracking wise on the same side of the coin as s/he who does it to you?

Ahhhh… but the divided always know when they’re conquered.

            No?

note: now would be the time for you to show up… but you blew your wad.

          • Let’s go all you who want civil discourse and freedom of speech. Let’s hear it. I can’t guarantee your words won’t be censored. But they won’t be censored by me.

          • Oh… boo hoo… all the alphas punch the thumbs down button… because they ain’t manginas.

Nut up boys. You want reality, you’re going to get it.

          • Jack, I am going to tell you something. I know angry keeps this blog as free speech and I am totally fine with that and all but seriously……………

Shut the fuck up. You wanna know why your posts get thumbed down? It’s not that hard to figure out. You ramble. And ramble. And ramble some more. And most if it makes zero sense whatsoever. Stop pretending you are some saavy, edgy, book smart guy. We get it

“Jack, you always try to come off as more intellectual than you really are and it makes you come off as retarded in reality.”

            There’s a reason that 10 people gave that a +1. I wasn’t one of them because it’s something I already know.

I’m not any different in real life. An asshole. And I freely admit that and all my friends would say the same

I’m sure you’re probably a cool guy while not in front of a keyboard though. Stop trying so hard to be something you obviously aren’t. Be less of a douche here

            This concludes your internet intervention

          • You wanna know why your posts get thumbed down?

Nope. I know laziness and/or cowardice when I see it.

Stop pretending you are some saavy, edgy, book smart guy. We get it

You need to talk to we. You are obviously not getting it.

            There’s a reason that 10 people gave that a +1.

            Yes… laziness and cowardice.

And then you go more off the topic than this off-topic ramble started… for what? Do you even know the topic of this sub-thread? Does it take book lurnin’ to say what I said above? Does it even take a shred of intellect?

Still waiting for that breakdown, boner.

whskey: Hey! You… ugly! Do you know where the gas station is?
Jack: Nope. But I know where I am.

          • Btw… thumbing up is the same as thumbing down. It’s pure laziness. It takes zero thought to agree or disagree with someone. It takes a backbone to say why you do or don’t. Most people just don’t have a spine.

Hell, most people think someone disagreeing with them is an abridgment of free speech instead of what it truly is, some other schlub’s free speech.

So do or don’t like, retweet or do whatever laziness affords you in this fast food world. But whatever you do, please do not have any original thoughts. Someone might not like that.

          • And since everyone is so butt hurt over my original comment of such stupendous intellect known only to someone with said stupendous intellect, I’ll break it down.

angry trolls A@A every now and then by just calling him out. It’s hilarious because he doesn’t even put bait on the hook. He just toodles around with a shiny hook, and like a small perch A@A bites on it every time.

I’m assuming you all know this since I’m the retarded one here. So what needs to be explained to me, the slow kid, is why someone starts complaining about any response to an obvious troll. It doesn’t appear to be a continuation of said troll. A continuation would be to go after the sarcasm with something like:

Oh A@A! You are so right. Why would OSU ever hire a baseball coach from a D3 school… specifically from the NWC… specifically from Oregon… specifically from Yamhill County? I mean, look what happened the last time we did that. Thanks for saving us from our gross misconceptions with your completely logical thoughts.

Instead, we act butt hurt. And then we act butt hurt when it’s pointed out we’re acting butt hurt. But now that I know it’s not butt hurtedness but has to do with some secretive club of enlightenment of which me will never get an invitation to join because me retarded, me want to know what smart is.

            Let’s hear it.

          • Jack, I am going to tell you something.

Hello? Is this the person to whom I am speaking?

You should start al your posts with equal redundancies. It would be fun.

          • This sub-thread isn’t my conversation.

They brought the stupid and got upset when called on it. So their reality gets to be this every time. One would think they have a capacity to learn.

  6. Heimlich hits 100 pitches in 5 full. Shakey? You bet, 9 LOB for the ucks and Luke only shows 51 strikes. Oh yeah, he has an E to his credit as well. Pitching staff troubles……what’s new.
Anyway, 4-3 Beavs in the b5.

    • So… Luke drops two then walks and WP… bringing on Fehmel… who walks then E’s then gets the third out.

12 LOB for the Ducks through six. Fingernails are working overtime right now. I suspect Horton will tell his batters to lay off all pitches not expected to be fat from here on out.

  7. Fehmel settles in and shuts down the T7.

Donahue leads off b7 and reaches on E… bunted to 2b by Kwan… Ice is cold… KJ IW… P changes on the way.

      • I read that the fever is actually destroying the infection, so if you take tylenol, isn’t it just masking that and prolonging the process? i’m not even sure that makes sense since my head weighs 50lbs.

    • Cold bath if you need it… colder the better… chew on ginger root… aspirin and ibuprofin can knock it down, but you want it to run its course, so if you want to take any, take enough to just be comfortable… drink as much as you can… a salty bone broth with no solids is best for digestion and water retention because you’re losing water regardless… peppermint and garlic are also good.

My favorite is getting in a cold bath with a huge cup of beef/chicken/mushroom broth with copius amounts of ginger and garlic on a hot plate (once in a Mr. Coffee decanter). The water can be cool but still act like that mummy blanket you want when doing the shiver thing. You’d be surprised how comfortable you are just pruning up in tepid water.

      • should have added… gelatin is the quick bone broth… you should always have some without sugar on hand anyway (unless vegetarian).

      • It’s weird, around 8pm I got chills that would not stop, so I took a hot shower. Very bad idea, I think…but I was freezing all the sudden.

This after noon I put a room temp cloth on my neck/artery and that really helped — learned it from Survivorman!

Man this is going to be a shitty night.

      • Even better, put all of jack’s ingredients in the bath tub with you and stay in the water/broth till you finish drinking it all.

        • Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you have the bug I caught a few months ago it’ll be a long haul. I was over 103 for 4 full days, and over 104 for a full day. Caught it from my wife who also gave it to my mom; was about the same for all of us.

First fever over 24 hours I’ve had since I can remember.

Hydrate like crazy. Get some Gatorade or something (I ran out of electrolytes drinking only water and had a scary 106+ episode). Shower is a great option if you need to cool down. Other than that I agree with your research – the more you force the temp down (Tylenol, etc), the longer the fever will last. IMO best just to let the thing run its course.

          Good luck!

          • Thanks, Alex.
I really hope not. I thought this was food poisoning. Right before I got it, I ate a Mexican tomato and didn’t rinse it too well, so I thought it was that.

Woke up with a 102 fever, so it’s down a bit, but still pretty bad. I actually slept pretty good considering. Dreamed about playing drums in a band, and that Carlos Rodon pitched a shutout for my fantasy baseball team.

          • “So even that’s not an original thought?”

            Correct! Much like yours.

Maybe I shouldn’t be singing this song
Ranting and raving and carrying on
Maybe they’re right when they tell me I’m wrong

            Nah!

            I’m an asshole!

            C’mon Jack. Join me…..

            Come to the darkside

          • Heh heh… I remember the bit. Complete satire… not exactly any dark side to it.

You keep referencing that bit. I do not think it means what you think it means.

When I think of an asshole, I think of one more like Louis CK describes when giving up his seat in first class. I think Leary’s description is more of a jackoff. And if either of them decided to institutionalize their way of life, they would be scumbags.

  8. Final 6-3 good guys, the differece? 3 unearned runs.
Fehmel K’s two of three in the ninth.
Tomorrow should be another test of the fatigue factor for Ice, he didn’t spend much time on the basepaths tonight, but did work behind the plate with runners on base most of the game. Hard to sit him down given his D, but maybe move down the lineup?

Plenty of arms ready for tomorrow (ready?…um, make that available), Eckert, Church, hell even Pomeroy heh, heh.

    • Quacks had an unearned run also so going by earned we ( I know, should I be using “we”?) still win 3-2.

Fehmel was very good after the first third inning. Fanned 6 of 9 and didn’t allow a hit in the last 3 innings.

KJ saved the day though with the 3 run blast and the great dig on Morisson’s throw with the bases loaded and two down. If that gets by him the Beavs lose.

      • All the brews are pretty good. I usually work with the bartender describing what I’m looking for that day (dark, light, bitter ,etc.) and have had great success.

  9. Fehmel performed the Heimlich maneuver on Heimlich.
Visiting my sister in Ohio and drove past “Pettibone Rd.” in a small town north of Akron. Obviously named after our legendary ex coach.

    • Thank you for the kind reference. My coaching wonderfulness is recognized far and wide. An autographed/framed picture of yours truly is on its way to you.

PS: A small shipping and handling charge of $75 will apply.

  10. Danny reports the starting pitcher today will be …………either Jake Thompson OR Jordan Britton.
Is the light coming on for Connie Mack?

  11. Rueck quoted on various off-season topics, says this about recruiting and the added publicity of being in the Final Four,

“Without those accomplishments, maybe they don’t look, maybe they don’t consider (OSU) and then maybe they miss out. Maybe this is the best place for them, maybe it’s not.

I like the approach, by several of our coaches, that says it is your loss if you don’t consider/choose OSU, and not a single word about an airport.

    http://www.gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/basketball/article_6c38ccb7-69b4-5449-ba22-f60f8bee6b00.html

  12. Today’s lineup has C-boy still at DH, Gretler again at 3b, Morrison moves up to 5th in the order and Ice remains at 3rd in the order. Jake gets the start after all……..how short will the leash be?? BTW, in the pregame interview Casey sounds like it is Nate’s choice……anyone believe that?

Another thought: ever seen Beavs pitchers misplay as many bunts and even be slow/absent getting over to cover first?

  13. Well I just joined the Illuminati. Unfortunately it has been decided Oregon takes this series.

Only thing that saves the Beavs hosting a Regional is a significant string of good hitting. Not happening though.

  14. down 5-3 in the last of the 7th, 2 on and 1 out and Connie sticks with a guy hitting .190 for the season? There’s a brilliant decision.

Edit: aaaaaaand he strikes out. Shocked. Shocked I tell ya

  15. There’s a few on this team that have developed Gabe Clark syndrome and will not be missed when they’re gone. Not gonna name names but their last names end with on

KJ Harrison is NOT one of them

  16. Beavs can’t string much together. They get a rally going and just can’t sustain anything. One step forward, two back.

    • this team does not deserve to go to a regional at this point. Play out these last 2 weekends and end this shit show please

      • Need to end this season and hit the recruiting trail and get some pitching.
Stolen bases should be easy at the college level, too…don’t understand why they don’t recruit speed. It would eliminate the need for bunting so much.

      • Key words, “at this point”. Somebody besides KJ is gonna have to get hot……soon. Still, going to the regional likely would turn out to be painful to watch.

        • There’s two weekends left. It hasn’t happened and isn’t likely to happen. These guys are who they are. Average at best and middling. They look like they’re just going thru the motions. Losing 6 of 7, dropping a civil war series at home and the 25 game streak to the Pilots in this last week is the low point. Put a fork in these guys. They’re done

  17. Best case scenario as far as I can see is OSU gets a #3 seeding in a regional somewhere else. They certainly aren’t going to host. In fact, I wouldn’t be shocked if we see ZERO Pac-12 regional hosts this year. The league in general is pretty awful this year. If Utah ends up winning the conference like they’re on track to do, I’d almost bet on it. The league’s looking at maybe four teams in at best, nobody hosting at this point. This baseball team’s been a huge disappointment. But Casey tried to warn us before the season started when he said this didn’t look anything like a top 10 team. Lack of improvement however, is troubling.

      • Don’t know if it’s been posted but Jamie Wisner was waived from the Connecticut Sun. Hope she gets picked up.

        • Don’t know if it’s been posted but Jamie Wisner was waived from the Connecticut Sun. Hope she gets picked up.

          • I read an article where the Sun coach indicated that Weisner was a great player and would be playing in the league somewhere, but they decided to keep only 5 guards.

Like you, I hope she gets picked up.

Hamblin has played in both her team’s games:
            Sat in a win – 2 minutes, 2 rebounds, 1 point
Sun in a loss – 1 minute, no stats

          • Hopefully she didn’t blow her $500 signing bonus.
This is not the NBA. Happens a fair amount. She will be playing for money somewhere.

  18. One of my kids got called over by that Russ guy who leads the ideation team, at the game today. He asked to take some photos of him for some possible promotional material. Little Nicebeaver might be used to promote football later this year. Proud beaver dad…

Also chatted with the new girl on that team angry posted about a month or so ago. Their team seemed like a nice group of people

  19. Off topic:

So Whiskey tried the BBQ/smoked meats from eats and treats in Philomath end of last week. I gotta say, really nothing special. The folks were nice, I will give them that but I’ve had just as good out of a deli at Safeway. The smoked ham was decent but the smoked pork and chicken were just meh. For around $9 a half pound each, don’t waste your time or $$$. If you’re looking for overpriced BBQ that’s so so with nice people on the way to Newport this place is for you.

If you think this place is the bomb for smoked meat or BBQ, you really need to get out of the pacific northwest

    • Ever tried Podnah’s Pit in Portland? I thought that was pretty good. Allegedly, they start smoking meat at 4 am, and that’s what’s available that day; when its gone its gone for the day.

If you know a better place, let me know. I haven’t tried many BBQ places on the west side. Thanks!

      • If you get over to the east side try Slick’s ‘Cue Co. There are eateries in Sisters & Bend.

I say it’s pretty good eating but haven’t eaten at any of the places mentioned so can’t compare.

          • I don’t know about Wilsonville, but the web site (http://www.slicksqueco.com/) indicates Sisters is home base. Started in Sisters about 7-8 years ago then moved to Bend. Last summer re-opened in Sisters at the the old Papandrea’s Pizza site.

Sadly Papandrea’s is no more – they had awesome pizza, but the owners retired and shut it down.

          • Different place.
            http://slicksbigtimebbq.com/

I knew there was a place in Sisters years ago and another in Bend recently that I’ve never tried. Never knew the name of either, let alone that they’re the same. I was just through there last week. I’m just not into the whole stopping in Sisters thing. But now I’ll have to try it.

          • There’s also the James Gang in Lincoln City and some other mom and pop in Depoe Bay, both of which I’ve not tried. And I’m told a truck or trailer down in Medford called Tumbleweeds is pretty good.

          • Can’t blame you for not being “into the whole stopping in Sisters thing”. I live 8 miles east of Sisters and, although I try to spend locally, I still have to deal with the summer traffic for Quilt Show and Rodeo and Gem Show and, and, and. It’s a nightmare sometimes.

I always said that the city fathers wanted to put barriers up so that you could get into town but couldn’t leave. Would have worked before they renamed “Hotel Sisters” “to “Bronco Billy’s” (if you catch the Eagles reference…)

        • Podnah’s pit is more Texas-style I guess…more about the smoke and the dry rub than sauces, though they are available and good.

      • You guys ever tried making your own bbq? Seriously, anyone can make better bbq than any restaurant. Restaurants have to make large quantities and try to space out their finish times to cover several hours of serving. Most of the time it gets put into a steamer before it comes to your table, if not it’s likely dry or over cooked. Just get yourself a smoker or a Big Green Egg and some chunks of fruit wood and smoke yourself some good bbq. It doesn’t get any better.

          • Yeah, they are proud of them, but I think it’s worth it. Lifetime warrantee on all the ceramic pieces. You’ll never need another outdoor cooker. I only light up my gas grill once per year now on 4th of July when I have to cook 25+ burgers and dogs.

          • Someone makes a BGE knockoff that gets very good reviews. If I remember right they are half the price. I’ll see if I can find the company.

          • Pit boss is the company that I was thinking of, but it looks like their prices have come up to around $799 for a 24 inch model. At one time they were $549 at costco, with the same warranty.

          • Make a cinder block pit. Use corrugated metal sheets for the lid. The only real expense is going to be the grate and a lintel (you can probably find one or both at a re-use store). There are also some great ideas out there separating the hot box from a smoke chamber made of rough hewn cedar.

            Both would cost less.

I don’t disagree that people can make their own and be as good as or better than some of the shops we’re talking about. But doing it consistently is the trick. The good pit masters will tell you everything about how to get the meat just right. They just don’t share their recipes for brines, rubs and sauces. If you learn to do a brisket correctly, you can yank a rub mix off the net and make that sucker sing. Remember that a good brisket needs no sauce.

That’s why those who I think are best (around here) are the ones on the verge of or still running a truck. They’re in their infancies. When one of them starts serving up a good boudin, juicy link or pork belly, then I know we got some good stuff going on.

We’re a couple generations away from that. But it is why making your own pit can be rewarding. You can make your own cuts and grinds (and sticks and jerkies).

          • You can certainly make your own smoker or kamado cooker, but the challenge will be maintaining a consistent temperature. I can dial in the vents on the BGE and maintain 225 deg for at least 10 hours before I might have to add more lump. With a DYI setup you’ll likely have to make constant adjustments to maintain the temp. I’m not willing to babysit my smoker for that long when I can go play golf instead ????

          • I’ve had a Cookshack electric smoker for about 12 years. Set it and forget it. Better Que than you can buy, unless you are at a bbq Mecca.

          • … but the challenge will be maintaining a consistent temperature.

That’s bullshit. That’s the easiest thing to do in the BBQ world. Now you sound like a salesman.

    • It’s a good thing nobody said it was. It’s better than big barn chain food. But it ain’t great. There is very little in the region that is. Fortunately, one of those very little is within a quick drive for you.
      http://www.bbqoregon.com/

And don’t eat prepared foods from Safeway… except for maybe the Chinese at the one on 122nd if the old chef is still there.

    • CJ, there used to be a pizza place in the Oregon City called “Papandrea’s” also. Excellent pizza, they were replaced by someone else with godawful pie’s with bread-like crust. Wonder if it was the same family?

      • I suppose it could have been the same family. I know they had a place in Bend for a while but it was in a difficult location so they closed it after a couple years.

    • I’m all for protecting guys, but that helmet looks like it might cause a skull fracture during a sandwich tackle. Did I’m curious as to why they don’t show the whole rebound of that helmut? Looks like it might bounce like a basketball, and that can’t be good.

    • I remember back when our high school football coach issued our gear. And then told us to go home and run our heads into things to make sure the fit was right. And they checked for scratches the next day to make sure we did so. High school coaches are the worst. If this tech can help high school kids, then it’s a great thing. I had major doubts when I read the headlines, but seeing the “engineering” helps some.

      • I’ve coached high school for 15 years and never heard a coach say something so stupid. So taking that 1 situation and generalizing it to “high school coaches are the worst” seems a tad excessive.

        • Well, we are talking more than 15 years ago, so I’m glad you’ve not heard that. But high school coaches are the worst. And I volunteer high school coach. If you have seen first hand the incompetency of teacher/coaches in your 15 years, then you are likely part of the problem. The best know what they don’t know. The worst don’t even know what they don’t know and can be scary bad.

  20. Pettibonehead: Can you use your autographed portraits for a fund raiser for “Victory through Helmets?” Once the team exits the new locker room, they’ll need new semi-inflated helmets to run through. I suggest you charge enough so that three helmets can be purchased to match whatever “lid” the kids are wearing on game day, black, orange, white.

The old fog machine should be good for a few more seasons so don’t worry about funding its replacement. Yet.

      • Whatever happened to that anyway? “designed and developed,” but never used for anything other than goal post padding?

Maybe they’ll use it to pad the exterior wall of the lockeroom so that when some player exits the end zone they don’t run directly into concrete. Cyclone fencing was bad enough….

  21. The newest episode in the Oregon State/Lindsay Schnell epic is about halfway complete. I won’t have time to finish it until after the weekend, but wanted to give you all a sneak preview. Looking for suggestions as to which Corvallis locations you’d like to see Lindsay try and take out, and maybe even which people you’d like to see her tangle with and possibly devour.

Never try to take away Lindsay’s bones…..
