After thinking about all input, I decided to keep this format, and go with two “authors” (oneoldbeav and nicebeaver). These guys will hopefully be around if I’m not to put up a thread or reboot a thread if it gets very long (I’d say 250 comments or 10 Miles Davis youtubes, whichever comes first).
We’ll see how this goes and then reassess. I feel confident in the new AB team! Go (angry) Beavs!
Nice, I actually like this format. Seems more like an actual conversation among a group of people than a lot of forums.
Good call.
So I haven’t seen this mentioned here but looks like Tinkle’s conversation with Stanford netted him two more years at OSU.
http://www.gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/basketball/osu-men-s-basketball-tinkle-signs-two-year-contract-extension/article_d9af34a0-9e3e-5a95-af52-f1a28963145b.html
I told you Tinkle has a little Riley in him.
At least it didn’t net him a lifetime contract.
Yeah, sure do miss BDC
He receives a lifetime supply of industrial strength antiperspirant in the contract. That’s worth 10k a year for him.
Is there a list of the incoming baselball recruits? Hopefully there are some good arms and a catcher or two.
Here you go. Not sure who on this list will be drafted tomorrow but per OLive, Rutschman and Verburg will be drafted. They don’t speculate where though.

I’m really unsure what to make of the upcoming team. A lot depends on Garrettson. I have a feeling he’ll be able to distribute the ball okay, and the result of that might surprise people. What these articles aren’t factoring in is how bad the QB was last year and how that constantly put the defense in bad position and fatigued them. Get a QB who can move the ball, and a lot of that changes…
I’m waiting for the fall scrimmage before drawing conclusions. Agree that on the surface it looks bad right now.
Agree. I think Garretson will impress this Fall. I really think there’s no where to go but up after last year.
Ya i think if garretson stays healthy and the juco guys can play we could have a chance at the over. Im still in wait and see mode with this team. The Minnesota game will be very telling if they can win that game that will give them a lot of confidence and momentum.
I know we got beat at UM last year but the Beavs did lead at half, I believe, so perhaps some confidence for them going out on the road early in the year?
I feel like if Garrettson can be an effective game manager, who can convert 3rd downs at a decent clip the offense becomes sneaky good. Don’t forget STG is back with the team to embrace the Jack of all role, and he is a true game breaker as a hybrid RB/WR/option QB.
RB: Some legit Thunder and Lightning action with the 2 beasts Ryan Nall and Tim Cook, and speedsters Paul Lucas and aforementioned STG.
WR: Villytron, Jarmon and a plethora of small speedsters. Togai at Tight End might be the best of all. And with Bradford and other promising freshmen, this could be a dangerous group.
OL: Their seasoned. If things click they should be good enough to give the O enough time to keep the D off balance.
Defense is the scary part of the team, but I feel we’ve greatly upgraded athleticism with the last 2 classes. They’ve also added several solid JC’s to help plug holes. Could be sneaky good as well. Everyone has to keep in mind: as shitty as the D was they were still able to help keep us within striking distance through most first halves. Then the shitty O going 3 and out every damn series on our own side of the field eventually caused them to wear down into sieve mode.
I’m excited for the season. I feel we’ll see marked improvement. I think we’ll surprise some people. As long as Garretson stays healthy… And who knows, McMaryion might even be a serviceable backup at this point. He throws a pretty ball and is only going to be a Sophomore. We were kind of tough on our Freshmen QB’s that on any real team would not have been forced into action so early.
Not sure why there is no mention of Collins…I have a feeling he will be a force for the Beavs.
I look forward to more Slashball.
STG = Collins.
Who would be? QB is still a giant question mark and the defense hasn’t really shown that it could be better.
Less blowouts maybe, it’ll be tough to get more than 1 conference win.
Think Leicester City.
Who??
Is your Google machine broken?
As bad as we are, we aren’t at Leicester City levels of underdog. Being Leicester City level would be going from being the 2008 Huskies to winning the national championship.
Heck, that comparison doesn’t even begin to describe how much of an underdog Leicester City was to win the Premier League this year.
Leicester City? Premier League? What sport are we talking? Bowling, tiddlywinks, or cup-stacking?
Seems like several teams on the schedule have pretty serious questions as well, though some programs benefit from more continuity than OSU at this point. Who comes in 9th – 12th could be wide open!

Ha! One comment with one reply on topic. Is that a vote for forums?
I think it’s a vote for adderall.
The original gateway drug.
Technically, the the topic is “General Thread” so even Jack’s babbling nonsense would be considered “on topic.”
No, Jack, that is not a request for your babbling, thank you in advance.
I know I would participate more if it was a forum. I find this format way too hard to follow the comments. Would be much better if there was a way to have new comments since last visit highlighted like SBN blogs have. Idk of that is possible with wordpress?
I could look into that. But I’d imagine that would only work if you are registered and logged in.
I have registered, the site just doesn’t keep me logged in.
Feels like we go through this every couple years… I love this format and hate forums. Forums suck. And it doesn’t matter if traffic is down now during the offseason; everyone will be back come football. Its like old friends, not a needy girlfriend.
I don’t care about traffic at all.
Just people whining when there’s not a new thread up…that bugs me when there’s nothing interesting that I want to write about. It makes me feel pressure to write something when I don’t want to.
Agree forums suck. We did go through this but not every few years. I think once prior.
“Its like old friends, not a needy girlfriend.”
Spot on, CraigBeav, agree 100%!
Reminds me of the time someone here likened this group to the gang on Cheers. A funny post complete with a rundown of which commenters here matched up with specific characters on the show. Very good stuff, anyone care to re-post it?
I think it’s pretty obvious who Cliff Clavin is.
Really disappointed in those of you that live in Corvallis. You really need to step your game up.
http://www.oregonlive.com/trending/2016/06/congratulations_corvallis_your.html#incart_river_home
Why the mention of cows? It drives me crazy that reporters stick with that narrative. Like there are heard of cattle roaming corvallis.
Perhaps the author hangs with our gal Lindsay?
I was tempted to comment on the piece; there have been a number of articles placing Corvallis in the top 10 or 25 best cities in various categories (college towns, places to retire, etc). The town has a lot more to pride itself upon than, “not being on Interstate 5”!
agreed. He even mentioned in the article he grew up in Corvallis. He must not have ventured out of city limits. Ever
I think its a chick that wrote the article, but who really knows in today’s world.
Maybe she has seen lindsay standing in a field and just assumed.
There are probably 250 towns in Wisconsin that would put Corvallis to shame. I call bullshit.
There’s 100 towns in Oregon that would too.
Anybody think the Beavs signed 3 guys with known academic issues in order to boost our class ranking for class building momentum? Thompson, Penn and Fangupo were all 4*/3* guys, but with limited offers because teams didn’t want to waste a scholarship.
Seems like a calculated risk and maybe that’s why they were willing to sign such a big class, knowing their reduced numbers would free up space for the next class.
I don’t really think to boost the class but i do think they were well aware of the issues and decided why not gamble. I thought they had fangupo still working on getting in but not sure. Hopefully no one else fails to qualify. I wonder if we should be concerned with the ducks poaching david morris that would be a real blow.
When you have 4-6 guys in every class never actually make it into the school due to mission or academics, I guess you can afford to take risks in hopes they pan out.
Judging from Morris’ comments, I think there’s a pretty good chance he won’t last through signing day. Seems crazy to give such an early verbal if you’re still planning to play the field, but you have to wonder if there was pressure to commit early for fear of losing an offer?
Or maybe he just gave the early verbal to drum up more interest?
Hopefully he sticks, but I don’t feel confident in that happening.
An interesting tactic. I heard Jerry Kill give a talk in his second year here about how his staff had been successfull at multiple schools in turning around morbid programs. Their thought was in the first two years you could absolutely not have failures in recruiting, specifically from an academic standpoint and recruited solid students who might not be quite as good athletes. It certainly worked in getting from terrible to decent, but to get to the next level you have to take a few flyers. Is GA doing that too soon?
That would be disappointing for the ducks to come in late and get him after he said a lot had to do with us being the first to offer.

Hahahaha you’re such a tool

You’re so cool Jack
Don’t drag me into your shit show.
It’s troubling that Andersen is losing so many guys due to academics. Are these guys really worth the effort when the risk is so high? Are they landing these guys because no one else will touch them? Are they doing the leg work? Coaches usually ask for transcripts first before making an official offer.
I think the ones we lost were just so talented and at positions of need that the coach might have thought it worth a shot. Its kind of hard recruiting a 2-12 season and an unfinished upgrade. If he can get some results on the field and with the vfc finished i think we’ll see less of this. Not to mention this happened quite a bit with riley.
I would look at the contingencies for those lost. Do we have some depth at that position already? Is there someone in the same class of equal (more or less) ability within the same position group? JUCO players?
These kids will go JUCO and either work hard or not at all. If they work hard, then they prove GA right in that they have the potential to succeed at both school and a game. I would like to have a good relationship with Thompson in two years. I hope what he was told while he was being recruited will come to fruition during those two years so he can see it in action.
I don’t know that we have enough data to say one way or the other at this point.
One of OSU’s best teams was recruited by Dennis Erickson, and if my memory is correct he was notorious for brining in high talent physical guys that were not strong on academics.
But that was just a one year wonder team (no disrespect intended-but that’s what it was). Erickson brought in Chad, TJ & Jackson. Riley brought in most of the rest.
But Riley didn’t know what to do with servicable/good players, Erickson did. That team under Riley would have been 8-4.
No question the Erickson team was the best in the country at the end of that season. Too bad they lost to the Huskies or they would have played for the national championship.
Incorrect.
Riley brought on less than one-third of the two-deep for that team. And that’s if you give him credit for niner walking on.
I think it was known throughout the process that several kids had qualifying issues. What concerns me is that it seemed like GA had a “plan” for everyone of them making it into school. Now I don’t know whose failure it was regarding that “plan” Was it the player or was the coaches plan flawed? The jury is still out on this for me.
MLB Draft starts today – No Beavs expected to be taken in the first day.
Likey drafted – Ice, Morrison, Donahue, Eckart, Engelbrekt, Nobach.
Surprisingly, Morrison is listed at #116 in MLB draft rankings. Ice is at #106.
I highly doubt Donahue gets drafted. John Pomeroy will get drafted though. Kid throws 95+. Control problems have kept him from getting PT at OSU, but you can bet an MLB club will take him and try to straighten out his arm.
So my brother in law met with Larry Scott and inked their ESports deal from their LA offices. PAC-12 is first to do this. What does everyone think is best way to incorporate ESports into the confetence strategy? This os hige in Europe but still gaining momentum in the U.S.
Is that professional video gaming? How is it supposed to tie in to real games?
It gives basement-dwellers a misguided sense of accomplishment, and I say that as a borderline basement-dweller
I had a student last term that was a “semi professional” gamer. He showed me the game they played and it was the dorkiest shit I’ve ever seen. He was headed to Vegas for the championship and there was some ungodly amount of money on the line. Blew me away.
When does fall camp start up?
Logan Ice taken in the 2nd round (supplemental) with the 72nd pick by the Cubs.
Wow, thats very high. He’s gone for sure.
He was drafted by Cleveland. His grandma confirmed he will sign.
Looks like he had a deal going into the draft with Cleveland. Will sign for less than what the slot says he should get.
Yeah. I saw the C next to his name on the draft board and instantly thought Cubs. The Indians logo was always something else until recently so it didn’t cross my mind
They should have changed their logo to a big red dot.

Um….. yeah. STFU dude
Since it’s slow, thought I’d throw a topic out there to get peoples’ opinions.
Where do you all stand on red-shirting players for their freshman seasons?
The reason I ask, is because it seems to be more and more common for players (especially talented ones) to use the graduate transfer rule as an opportunity to ditch their team for their senior season to go play elsewhere, leaving the team scrambling to find a suitable replacement.
In addition, the most talented players often end up leaving early for the NFL anyway. In some cases those guys didn’t redshirt in the first place but not always.
I wonder if going the route of giving guys playing time during their freshman season could benefit the team more rather than saving them for a year of development off the field?
Also, would it help with recruiting when you could point to all(or most) of your freshman getting playing time in their first year?
Another potential benefit, is players would then have a redshirt in their back pocket in case they needed it further down the road for any other reason.
Play the best players…….if they don’t make the travel squad, redshirt them. Simple as that. I don’t think coaches think about graduate transfers much, it happens but it’s not like every team has a them going or coming. But if a guy has his shit together and gradutes…..more power to him.
There’s no real best answer out there. So many cases of a wasted redshirt year (Wheaton) and ones that weren’t (Cooks, Seumalo).
If I were coach I would lean toward a redshirt year since it would benefit physically and mentally. One of the main reasons I think players should redshirt is to get accustomed to the college lifestyle without sacrificing on field performance. Unfortunately, coaches can’t decide that because the games start before school does. All cases should be treated individually.
I would ask these questions when deciding if a player should redshirt.
1. Is he the best player in his position? Will he help win games?
2. Does the player have the background to balance school and football in his freshman year? If he just barely got in, would it be better to redshirt him so he won’t become an academic casualty?
3. Will this stunt his development?
At the end of the day, it’s just a roll of the dice.
Do you think Wheaton would have come back anyway? He was drafted in the 3rd round that year. May have been underused his freshman year but I dont think he would have lasted through another year had he red-shirted as a frosh.
Either way, I still wish we could have seen he and Cooks together one more year with Mannion.
Seumalo was almost a worst-case scenario for us- frustrating. Typically if a player leaves early for the NFL, you know you got two outstanding years out of them. If they don’t go early, then of course you get the full 4 years of development. But here, we have one of the most talented guys to come through Corvallis in the past decade and he was able to do vanishingly little for the program- getting drafted basically on talent without the production to back it up.
Seumalo had a very good freshman year — for a freshman. But at the end of the day he was still a freshman; raw and a bit up-and-down. And then the next two years were lost, with injuries either holding him out of games entirely or rendering him relatively ineffective.
My opinion is starter (or at least a heavily used rotation player) or redshirt. None of this burn the redshirt for 8 catches in a season crap.
If they can handle the academic side of things along with the ability to pratice and learn playbooks, (Rodgers brothers) play them. Flip side, you got a talented kid who can’t do school play him now, because he won’t last four years. I know thats cold but..
This guy is awesome. Social justice warriors under pressure all over my FB. It’s nice.

“Hey… it’s the (((echoes))) guy.”
Yeah, like that thing actually worked.. psshhh.
Angry, I’m surprised you find someone low on facts and high on drama ‘awesome’. Especially when you’ve made previous posts about emotional reactions vs. logical and rational ones. This guy seems savvy about manipulation through the media, which you seem against.
I mean he’s awesome in that he’s out there backlashing against SJWs.
Yeah… that’s pretty much his defense of the alt-right. The only problem is that he gains fame and makes money off those he previously hated.
More power to him for finding a paying character. And I suppose anything this version of Peter Fallow reports will earn cash regardless, given the audience. But he makes supply-side a joke. And supply-side is no joke. It is that which those he leads down the garden path would destroy were they ever given a moment of true reflection on the subject.
What he does, btw, is precisely what he rails against.
So there is that comedy going on. I often think some of these people just have to be plants who reduce it all to the absurd in order to show how monumentally stupid it all (both extremes) is.
Forsyth announcing sometime today. I’m guessing it’s Oregon though.
And now it’s officially unofficial. He chose Oregon
Too bad.
Didn’t someone here say he was a neighbor and often wore Beavs gear? Wonder what influences caused him to go to the dark side.
He’s my neighbor. West linn has a very strong Oregon connection in evrey sport so most of west linns high profile recruits head over there.
Yup, oregon.
I saw that coming many miles away.
That’s what she said.
I haven’t heard from silverstream in a while. He would be another good one to give privileges to add a topic.
Good idea. The silverstream practice/scrimmage recaps usually end up as their own thread anyway.
“…usually end up as their own thread anyway” Deservedly so, top notch stuff! In depth analysis and the occasional first hand knowledge of SA’s. Hard to beat.
Whatbdo you think the chances of the beavs getting cody shear?
We’re in his top 3, at least as of last week. Not sure if any of his newer offers change things for him though. Plus there’s always Oregon lurking. Curious how many OL they will take in this class though? They already have 2 4* OL guys in their 3 man class
Alright thanks! I seen on 24/7 arizona and Washington were hot with him so wasn’t sure where we stood. Hopefully we can land him th a would put us nicely at o-line and – receiver in this class.
I chatted with a recruiting analyst for Arizona today. Said he spoke with Shear today and gets the impression that the Wildcats are the team to beat for him. Said he is not waiting on UW or UofO to offer anymore, fwiw.
The PAC-12 did badly in the 2016 NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament. But that’s nothing compared to what the SEC has done so far in the 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
The NCAA selected 7 SEC teams for the 2016 baseball tournament, and all 7 SEC teams (!!) were deemed worthy of #1 regional seeds (and therefore given hosting privileges). In contrast, only 4 PAC-12 teams were selected, and NONE were named as regional hosts.
So have the 7 powerhouse teams from the SEC lived up to the hype, and justified the NCAA’s generous seedings? Nope.
Two of the SEC teams lost their regionals without winning a game (Mississippi; Vanderbilt).
One of the SEC teams that advanced to host a super regional lost that super regional today (to Arizona) without winning a game (Mississippi State).
Of the remaining four SEC teams still alive and hosting in the super regionals, each lost its first game in the super regionals (assuming that LSU loses tonight, given that LSU currently trails 9-4 in the 7th).
Meanwhile, the first team to reach Omaha and the College World Series for 2016 is Arizona from the PAC-12. And in head-to-head tournament games between the SEC and the PAC-12, the PAC-12 is currently undefeated (4-0) by my unofficial count, even though all those games were (of course) played in SEC ballparks.
2 wins for Arizona over Mississippi State
1 win for Utah over Mississippi
1 win for Washington over Vanderbilt
Yes, it’s not a huge sample. Still, it’s enough of a sample to suggest that the NCAA almost certainly overvalued the SEC, and most probably undervalued the PAC-12, in this year’s selections and seedings. And that’s not even counting the way the NCAA screwed the Beavs this year in the selection process.
Not expecting anything to change. But the unfairness here is pretty obvious….
And don’t forget how in 2008, when the Beavs were reigning back to back champions and yet just missed being selected, that they were the first reigning champion in the history of the tournament to not be selected the following year (not even counting the back2back bit).
Another SEC host team fails to win a game in its own super regional, as South Carolina loses two straight to Oklahoma State. SEC started with 7 teams (all hosting). Now down to three, and none have yet punched a ticket to Omaha. Stay tuned…
Draft Recap – a few surprises and only one recruit drafted.
Gone – Ice, Hamilton, Pomeroy.
Maybe gone – Morrison
Stays – Rutschman.
Obviously surprised that Hamilton and Pomeroy got drafted. I expect them to sign since they won’t be getting much time at OSU next year. Nothing really will improve their draft stock.
Nice to see Eckart go high. Sr usually drop because they have no leverage.
Morrison will have a tough decision. If he was drafted in the top 10 rounds, he would get a signing bonus. Now, teams can offer him one but it’s limited. Could he improve his draft stock? Yes, but it might be time for him to move on. I think if he gets a decent signing bonus, he’ll turn pro.
Also nice to see all the recruits decide to come to school. Though with the roster as is, some guys will be cut next year. If all five guys drafted, turn pro, it leaves 5 spots open for the 11 incoming recruits.
Carey not listed for summer league participation. Anybody know anything?
gardening with ucsb/louisville game on — UCSB grand slam walk-off home run. No-host west coast teams off to Omaha – and to make it nicer Washington wasn’t one of them.
According to the UCSB announcers – Louisville press was patronizing as hell.
With the limited number of West teams in this year’s tournament, this is a huge statement. WOW….to go in on the road and play the way they did, hats off to UCSB and Arizona….could of easily gone the other way, but at this point teams just want to “Survive and Advance”. West Coast is representing well!!
That was a great ending.
Nice to see UCSB head coach Andrew Checketts get to the CWS. I watched him play at OSU back in the late 90’s.
Gardening? In Bend??
Watch those first/last frost dates!
Montana – almost as difficult.
Oooops, musta confused ya with homefry
5 teams have their ticket punched to Omaha. ACC/SEC had 13 of the 16 regional hosts. So far…
UCSB – Big West
Arizona – Pac-12
Texas Tech and Oklahoma St – Big 12
Miami – ACC
Florida, LSU and Texas A&M are the only remaining SEC. Florida and LSU were both beaten yesterday and must win today to avoid elimination. Texas A&M and TCU are tied 1-1 with the winner headed to Omaha. Florida St is the only remaning ACC team and they can advance with a win today, I find it comical that the mighty SEC may get zero teams to Omaha and the most the ACC can send is two. Looks like the Big-12 might have been the best conference and could send 3 teams to Omaha.
It is odd….I still think of T A&M as a Big 12 team. Goes to show the bias for the SEC, as T A&M is now a contender in both football and baseball because of the SEC slanted pre-season rankings. Looks like leaving the Big 12 (out of Texas’ shadow) for the SEC turned out to be a good thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if T A&M and Florida advanced. Good to see teams are giving the SEC and ACC a run for their house money.
aTm is out. Poor SEC.

Any of you bet on UCSB?
Damn, that would have been a good bet.
Anybody know Caleb Smith status ?
Yeah, he sucks. Unless something’s changed? Brick hands, slow, and whatever the opposite of cerebral is.
Haha
TCU sends aTm packing. Coastal Carolina just walked off 4-3 at LSU to advance to the CWS for the first time in school history. One spot left. Florida/Florida St winner tomorrow takes it. So either no SEC and 2 ACC or 1 SEC and 1 ACC. Either way, for 13 regional and 7 super regional hosts that is fucking pathetic! And I love it!
Amen! The committee can suck on that!
Oh shit!! LSU goes down. Poor SEC..
So glad to see the SEC choke. But remember they play in the best league. Lol!! I so want to see Arizona win it all. ESPN must be pissed right now.
Some great baseball games. Love the aggressive style of C.Carolina. Please let FSU win tonight.
The presumed starter for Florida tonight is a local kid from one of the burbs. It would be so awesome to have the SEC shut out of the CWS.
Guess he pitched last night. Logan Shore.
Unfortunately, Florida is a better ball club than FSU — they’ve beat FSU every time except for the one loss last week going 4-1 overall. Hope FSU proves me wrong.
I know, but anything can happen.
Hey Angry, here’s more Texas/Pat Casey rumor like you had mentioned last month
http://www.hookem.com/2016/06/13/source-texas-interested-oregon-states-pat-casey/
Angry@angry said it’s nonsense so we’re all good. Oh wait…
It would be a major shock, but I guess if they toss enough money at him anything is possible.
If he leaves it will be angry’s fault
That goes without saying.
Yup. There’s no way coaches or anyone with legit connections to our various athletic programs read or give any credence to this website. But if they leave it’s because they were under-appreciated and said to have “warts” by the author of this website.
If he leaves it’s the VFC roof’s fault
And George Bush’s fault.
Wouldn’t any AD with 2/3rds of a brain looking to hire a baseball coach be interested in Casey?
Slow down… blaming idiot boy for something has an 84% chance of being correct. Dood got fucking rich by getting his even wealthier cohorts much more filthy fucking rich than they already were… and killing a shit load of people, thousands of Americans included.
His economics, sold to stupid people, were based on trickle down avarice, and he was a mass murdering drunk fuck who still doesn’t give a shit about this country.
That being said, this one probably isn’t his fault.
I’m sure they have identified him as a top target, most schools would. That doesn’t mean the interest is mutual or that it’s going to happen.
If I had to guess, I would say Schlossnagle, McConnell, Corbin or O’Sullivan would be most of their short list. Corbin would be scary in Austin.
If Casey wanted to leave, this isn’t a good time to go. Program is still elite. Got hit with some bad luck this year. Too much talent on the team to leave to build another program.
The Athletic dept is firmly behind Casey and the program so there’s little reason to leave other than lots and lots of $$.
However, if that did happen, the OSU job would be highly coveted by elite coaches.
Texas spares no expense when it comes to its sports programs and the state is one of the deepest talent pools in the country. I don’t know much of anything about college baseball but I do know that “building” any sports program at UT is easier than at OSU. However, he seems closer in his career/age to becoming an AD than he is to becoming a head coach anywhere else but then again I thought the same about Riley

Yeah, Idaho State could be better than advertised ;)

It’s the new script of the masses. That and emojis…..or whatever the hell those are called. It’s getting retarded.
I stick to good old fashioned profanity.
Your problem is you’re spending time on Facebook. I only log on about once every 4-6 months to keep it from going dormant, and my life sure hasn’t been worse for it.
Same here.
I don’t have a “Facebook”. It keeps my blood pressure low….ish.
You patrol 24/7 for anything negative related to the ducks and are over here telling people they’re wasting time on Facebook lol to each his own
Point taken :) But I get duck crap shoved in my face everyday from the “news” and tacky clothing, living in Oregon. I can at least control my Facebook time.
It’s not a problem. I spend 10 minutes on there seeing what people are up to and then leave, but apparently all they’re up to is posting memes.

There now you know what’s on Facebook and you don’t have to look again until November
It depends on your friends. I have many who are really eloquent writers and very thoughtful.
Describing their last meal?
Well aren’t you great and high brow.
I’m not, my friends are.
I don’t think you every have to log on again after setting up an account. I set mine up at least 7 years ago so I could check out my youngest son’s page. I haven’t logged on for years and still get friend requests and other fluff from the site.
What a waste…
So the SEC gets one team in, Florida. Plus Florida gets honors to rest until Sunday as the last game of the day. How nice that Florida gets to play last.
I would hope they rest because of the seeding. I believe they are #1 seed overall, but then again given the bias of the committee….
Didn’t Texas A&M get in?
No T&A &M lost to TCU. Texas Tech is in.
Texass Tech was far and away the worst non conf. fan base ever encountered by my Golden rodents. They gave one of their players a standing O when he got kicked out of the bowl game for sucker punching one of our players. I hope they flame out huge.
Ah….thanks. Sadly, I’ve watched zero seconds this year; just can’t get over the snub.
Same, I haven’t watched a pitch.
I’m too addicted, haven’t and won’t watch, but keep track of scores and rumblings via Baseball America.
Before and after the carnage:
SEC hype going into the tournament: https://southboundanddown.com/2016/05/19/9-reasons-sec-baseball-is-set-to-dominate-the-road-to-omaha-2016/
SEC reality — only 1 SEC team makes it to Omaha: http://southboundanddown.com/2016/06/13/sec-super-regional-weekend-the-good-the-bad-and-the-super-bad/
It would be fun to see Arizona and/or UCSB do well in Omaha, and to see Florida do badly. Is that too much to ask?
Ha! That is great…the first article typifies what we here in football all the time: SEC teams are great because they play a lot of great teams, from the SEC.
Exactly.
As many angrybeavs have been pointing out for a long time, the system is rigged in all kinds of ways to favor the SEC.
ESPN shamelessly favors the SEC in coverage of college sports. This is unsurprising, given that ESPN owns the lucrative SEC network, and splits revenues with the SEC. This cozy relationship generates gushers of cash for both ESPN and the SEC year after year. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2015/08/how_the_sec_network_became_a_n.html
The gushers of cash, along with ESPN’s cheerleading, corrupt others in the media, and influence the polls, which consistently overrank SEC teams. This becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, as SEC teams manipulate their schedules to avoid tough away games with Power 5 teams from other parts of the country. This manipulation ensures that at least some SEC teams — often many SEC teams — will end up near or at the top of the polls each season. https://secexposed.wordpress.com/tag/espn/
Come tournament time, SEC athletic directors stack the selection committees to overrank/overseed SEC teams. See 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
The surprising thing is that — despite all of this blatant rigging of the system — the SEC still manages to lose as often as it does. When that happens (as it did in this year’s NCAA Baseball Tournament), people outside the SEC tend to celebrate.
Unfortunately, at the end of the day, the system remains rigged, and there appears to be no prospect of that changing in the near future. Which sucks.
And that Disney is a publicly traded company that has to answer to shareholders.
OT… really good book…
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Shareholder-Value-Myth-Shareholders-Corporations-ebook/dp/B007PIZ8IO/278-6262655-2460339?ie=UTF8&btkr=1&ref_=dp-kindle-redirect
You have clearly stated the case – so why does the NCAA go along – political or financial? (think FIFA)
I know this is getting old, but baseball is my sport, especially Beaver baseball. So, I got in an argument with a guy about why Beav baseball should of got in….he claimed the PAC 12 had greater percentage of teams to get in compared to SEC/ACC conference in last year’s tournament. I pointed out that last year was the exception, and he told me to do “the math”…..so I did. For your information I found the following:
I told him to look at the years prior….Over the last 10 years the PAC12/PAC10 baseball has averaged 45%, SEC average 62%, and ACC average 64%. Feel free to go to Wikipedia and check my work. The percentage for the PAC has gone down over the past 5 years. This is one of the many reasons why we bitch. Imagine if the PAC had equal percentage bids to the tournament, not to mention seeding, regional hosts, travel, rankings, and committee bias for their own teams.
….correction, PAC12/10 percentage is 47%. Forgot we have only 11 in baseball (Colorado doesn’t play).
So a 15% difference from the SEC, and 17% difference from the ACC….equivalent to being shorted 1-2 team(s) every year (its more like 1.7 teams, but….you always round-up right?).
It’s weird that Conforto stinks now. He has a great swing. Some guy Nimmo is going to come up to replace him soon.
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-fastballs-abandoned-michael-conforto/
He got rushed up to the majors. Less than 600 PAs in the minors. Jumped to the majors from AA. I was amazed by his success but the stats bear out, he was seeing a lot of fastballs. Pitchers adjusted and now he’s getting a steady dose of major league breaking balls. Conforto has to adjust back. He’s likely pressing, maybe fearing they’ll send him down since the Mets figure to be in postseason contention.
I’m sure he’ll figure it out. He’s not Pedro Cerrano.
So what you’re saying is that he needs hats for bats to keep his bats warm?
No, that’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying he needs to sacrifice a live chicken. Or grow some marbles.
He has a hand issue he’s thinking he can use cortisone on in order to avoid surgery.
The chicken will probably work better than the cortisone in the long term.
That’s what Wade Boggs said.
mobbles?
Unless it was caused by choking the chicken in the first place.
I watch a lot of Mets games. It seems like every at bat he’s down 0-2 and then gets a great curve or slider and strikes out. I think he needs to be a little more aggressive early in the count for now, he got a lot of praise when he came up for being patient, but it’s not working. He’s taking hittable pitches.
It’s obviously Gabe Clark’s fault
Happy National Bourbon Day.
Thanks for letting me know. I think there’s some Knob Creek around here that needs to be finished off
An excellent choice. That’s how I toasted the the day myself.
If the Rodent Bowl comes down to a field goal, da Beav’s are screwed. Check this out!

If ODFW would post controlled hunt draw results, that would be great.
You should be able to get it here:
https://or.outdoorcentral.us/or/hunterreport
If only the results were actually posted there…I’m very familiar with that page…I’m there roughly every 2 minutes!
No shit, they had them out on the 10th last year.
Bet ya, a dollar to a donut some fella will call for increased funding/staffing of responsible government office. No need for increased output, just more government.
Why would you pay a dollar for a donut? That’s a rip-off.
Oh… because it’s you.
Do you also give out fashion tips?
I’ll also wait a half hour before I make a prediction that you will make that prediction.
derp
Over on ifish.net there’s a thread with something like 450 posts and 65K views…all about when the results will be posted…at least I’m not alone!!!!!
Increased funding for a bunch of fish fluffers….ha. the new premium hunt funding (which is supposed to go to herd health management) will probably go stright to the pockets of the ODFW workers. Much like the funds from upland tags and the corresponding fee hike about ten years ago were going to raise and release phesants. Since the scam was introduced……there have been 0 phesants released on the public and managed private ground out east.
I agree that program is something of a scam. But there have been numerous pheasants released. They’re just public/private partnerships (PPP) where private industry gets paid to do things gubmint would do because private industry always does it better and for less.
In reality, these cooperatives most often end up being rich fucks paying land owners gobs of dough in order to drink cocktails and shoot clipped birds… and maybe the face of a friend… compliments of the privatisation crowd and your dollars.
I suppose I shouldn’t be so cynical. There are some release areas on public lands. But since the James Watt ideas of public management have been increasingly implemented, It sure seems like I have to pay for more and more of what my taxes used to pay for… an extra tent or vehicle… shellfish harvesting… day use at many locations… and on and on and on.
That’s where your status will change. You’ll either get one of your hunts or get points for next year. They’re not sending out postcards anymore because of it. But there’s likely some lag with over 400k applications needing data entry. I think there’s a 1-800 number to call as well. But you’re probably looking at wait times on that also. The DFW is just severely understaffed.
Other states take about two-three weeks after the application deadline to turn around draw results. We’re at a month and counting.
Anyway…I’m sure I won’t draw what I’m in for. But after this year I’ll have:
15 Points for Elk
15 Points for Deer
18 Points for Antelope
9 Points for Antlerless Deer
And they haven’t issued any results anyway – no matter if you call the 800 number or go online. Their response is “results will be posted on or before June 20th.”
All the workers are smoking pot prolly…….
I doubt pot is anti-data entry. I would think someone would forget to clock out while powering through such a task… with Marley blaring in their headphones.
I believe you should be able to take your points and put them where you really want them to go. I understand you’re wanting to schedule what can be a week or two of wilderness. But you should be able to blow your wad on the one you want.
More importantly, you should be rewarded for being conservative and keeping your portfolio diverse while everyone else blows their wads. ;)
Bambi does not approve of this thread.
Bambi’s father likes it less.
Slightly off topic
Just read that an alligator at disneyworld swam up and ate a 2 year old right off the little resort beach in front of one of their hotels. What a fucking nightmare for that family
I can’t even imagine.
It’s scary as shit. It’s one thing to be snatched next to a random creek or lake, but to be snatched at disney world…..you would think you’d be safe. I’m on another board that has Florida members, they say anything larger than a street pothole, just assume it has gators in it. Poor little guy :(
He wasn’t on the beach. He was wading in the water about two feet offshore. Since he was two, and his father was near enough to wrestle the gator before they went under, I’m guessing the father was ignoring all the no swimming signs and dangling his child in the water like bait.
Everything there is to be sad and bad and wrong can be found in this story, including a continuation of Orlando being a bad place to be in the last week.
To be fair, none of the signage mentions gators. That’s a little mind-boggling considering most of the people who visit that particular lake system are not local and aware of the wildlife in the region.
We have a real alligator epidemic in this country and we should ban alligators. If only Congress would act.
Maybe they should call a special session for this one incident?
Kate Brown will push it through in an emergency session.
Yay!
No gators in Oregon!
I feel safer.
Here you go:

It’s for the chiddren!
God I wish that was true.
30 years too late.
No kidding.
RIP former Beav. Anyone remember why he was kicked off the team?
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2646548-josh-williams-former-oregon-state-lb-dies-at-age-24
That sucks. I can’t even remember him. I looked back on my old rankings and don’t even see him listed, yet they say he was a 4-star?
From what i recall he was a late addition to the class.
That’s not surprising. You hardly remembered Dallas Buck
Derp.
Well according to you he was lightly recruited, under the radar kinda guy… So I’d say you don’t remember correctly.
He was. There were reasons for that. He had as much potential for greatness as he had for this outcome. But it didn’t work out that way.
Jack was is your definition of under the radar?
Or more appropriately in this case, what’s your definition of a under the radar recruit?
Whatever, dood.
He was a good kid who couldn’t get away from his life.
Wow, Pivec(osu wbb recruit). Maxprep national female athlete of the year. That’s pretty awesome.
But we lost Mandy…..
Mandy never had anything near Pivec’s handle, trigger or range.
OT… How do we feel about this No Fly/No Buy gun law being proposed?
I can see how the spirit of the law works. But aren’t there are so many ways to get around it? Or wouldn’t it cost a ton of money and manpower to implement it properly, if at all?
Even if criminals didn’t use workarounds, I never understood why anyone would oppose a waiting period while your info is run through a clearinghouse. I can see a lot of problems with the variable clearinghouses out there. The new law proposes the No Fly List be a mandatory one. But everyone I know is a thoughtful gun owner. They research their next purchase to the Nth degree. Another week is a drop in the bucket for most of them.
Viable 3D guns are right around the corner. All this gun ban stuff is moot, imo.
I think we’re talking automatic weapons here. That would be all anyone who properly applies any gun control laws would or should try to control. There’s zero capability for law to control handguns. You can’t put that toothpaste back in the tube (technically, you can with the correct tool… but it’s an idiom). So 3D is a worry for reasons different than mass kills. The tech necessary for repeat use will far outweigh the cost of going to the black market.
Automatic weapons are highly restricted and subject to taxation by the atf. I think you mean semi-automatic.
And the tech to build an ar is pretty simple….you need a milling machine and you can just about build the whole thing.
That’s the workaround I was talking about… that and shoulder-tapping at gun shows.
Unless you restrict supply, there is no way you can restrict anything. All these laws are pointed at consumers, not makers. It seems about as popular, feasible and potentially successful as the war on drugs.
A right delayed, is a right denied.
NICS checks are thorough, the problem comes when people don’t want to add certain groups of people to denial lists because of feels and political correctness. And no I’m not talking about mooslims, I’m talking about crazy fuckers (who still could be mooslims). The problem is, is a slippery slope your going out on by doing that.
The sad part is that all we hear about is ar47 this and ak15 that, gun violence, gun violence, active shooter. Rifles kill les people than
Accidentally hit the post button.
Then blunt force instruments. By fbi statistics murders have gone down every year since the late 80’s early 90’s. We don’t have a gun problem, we have a shithead problem.
I think that’s recognized. Mental health spending could be an issue there. But the issue we’re talking about is how to keep these easily attainable weapons out of the hands of shitheads.
Or is that in itself a breach of rights because it removes due process? I think it is unless you have proper system of due process implemented.
Delaying a right is not a right denied if the delay is reasonable. I don’t get to vote until November… well… October. I am not denied that right. That’s just a dumb argument. A better one would be that nobody wants the government to know what is in their armory. And that’s not a great argument either.
Not so fast jack, would you be in favor of the gov. Pre approving your posts on Web sites such as this? Delaying your right to free speech? And before you say that’s diffrent, 99.5 % of lawful gun owners a law abiding and have done nothing to cause a delay to their rights. So why make an arbitrary 3 day, 7 day , 10 day number when NICS checks can vet a person’s worthiness in nano seconds?
And your right due process is the major problem with the no fly watch list. In fact the aclu just came out yesterday against the idea of useing that list because of the back room state department dealings and secret state dept courts that allow no recourse to get off that list. I think it was 2 or 3 years ago the gov did an audit of the no fly list the showed 38% of the people on the list shouldn’t have been there. They even had a 3 year old who had been on the list since he was 6 months old. The number should be 0.
Wholly agreed on due process.
You’re trusting a government clearinghouse to be that efficient?
A waiting period is fine. No rights are removed. If you want that gun to shoot on X day, be smart enough to buy it arbitrary days prior to X day. If you’re not that smart, I don’t have much respect for you or your argument, which I already disrespect on the face of it.
The 1st Amendment, btw, also has restrictions placed on it. And that’s despite it not being a part of the only amendment in the COTUS with the words “well regulated” in it.
“You’re trusting a government clearinghouse to be that efficient?”
It makes me sick to say but…….you pretty much have too. One thing that is for sure, it must be transparent. The list needs to be transparent, the system that controls the list must be transparent along with the due process. Sadly I’m not sure it can be done correctly and be total unbiased.
I think you’re correct. My question was for the menagerie of clearinghouses currently implemented. One solid clearinghouse with proper support can do it like you and I know it can.
The problem is how to identify those who should be on any such list. There needs to be some kind of due process. I like that the GOP is proposing what they are to amend the bill under advisement. But their amendment looks to be short-sighted. I would think they would have a contingency amendment for any and all policy decisions. Mental health is the most important topic when discussing this list. I think you have a screw loose if you’re a terrorist. I think you justify your position well if you are a victim of our foreign policy. But taking it to the next step is a you thing. And those video interviews with captured daesch members are chilling. They make Anthony Hopkins look supremely inferior as a serial killer.
Mads Mikkelsen…. ugh! I would not want to meet his Hannibal anywhere in any imaginary lifetime.
The problem lies in the unelected bureaucrat that gets to decide who goes on these lists. If there’s not strict unbiased oversight it would become a political weapon in an instant.
I think that’s important. We see how voter rolls are purged in this way already. Who wouldn’t be hesitant to give over their trust to a system run by people who are willing to do that for their own power?
One other thing to take in to consideration is that this country can’t keep semi truck loads of meth, heroin and weed from crossing the border every day. If demand gets high enough those trucks could easily be filled with full auto Chinese AKs and pallets of ammo.
The jack-boots are coming. Let’s just hope Hillary gets indicted.
Hillary for prison in 2016
Huh?
You think Trump isn’t all jack-boot all the time? HRC may be bad or worse, but she’s no Trump.
She’s way worse.
In terms of foreign policy I agree, the wall withstanding. But Trump is all for policing you so you aren’t a problem for him. And he can probably do it efficiently. You and I won’t like it, but if he was elected he would implement whatever he thinks is a mandate. And they would not be enforced based on any policy (realpolitik being HRC’s).
She’s too deep in the weeds to make sound policy decisions for the whole of the ecosystem. He would just spray herbicides wherever he thinks there’s may be weeds.
*not
I would delete the word “policing” from your post and in its place insert “protecting”.
As far as mandates go…the case you make has me believing that you must be in favor of the illegal mandates that Barry rolled out? BarryCare, etc..
No. Regulation is policing. Some aspects of the government have it right in scope but wrong in implementation. There’s zero reason to retain 95% of the metadata retained, and they know it. There can only be domestic police work done on any of it. And I don’t think they have a right to any of it for any reason. That, to me, is tantamount to suppressing a populist movement with the actual military. It’s just also tantamount to grandparents trying to keep up with the tech the kids use, so oldsters figure the gubmint must know what they are doing when they keep terrorists from making us gay and having abortions carte blanche… or whatever.
There’s nothing wrong with policing. It could be as simple as a wag of the finger here or as heavy as a slam of the sledge there. But self-regulation leads to the gubmint literally sleeping with those they no longer have to regulate… because they’re self-regulating… apparently.
I mean… wtf does your supposed economic or civic system have to completely (and literally) fuck for you to say, “Hmmm… maybe that’s not the right thing to do”?
I don’t know what you’re talking about with what I think is your new talking point caption for what others call Obamacare. That’s legislation. By mandates I mean executive actions that the president has the power to do. Remember that anyone in the executive is subject to the chain of command.
Trump is supposed to know this and speak about it as if he were educated past the fourth grade. He does not. That leads me to believe any of his absolutely stupid whims could be put into action before any one or many people with a collective half brain could step in and stop it from actually happening.
There are many actions done by Obama that are contentious at best. And most of them have to do with homeland security… or whatever they want to that monstrosity.
I understand your narrative and agree with part of it. Having said that, are you advocating for another 4-8 years of Barry’s policing through Hillary?
Did this chris henry kid in the Twitter feed commit to Oregon state?
Is that Inspector Clouseau’s brother?
Clouseau was white, wasn’t he?
i don’t remember who you gave that name to
What does that have to do with anything?
Smells like a walk on situation. Just graduated from HS so class of 2016. Went to Hamilton HS in SoCal (and I think maybe Mater Die as well?) If he is scholarship, i’d be surprised, since there is very little info on him available.
I have a few questions out to some people to hopefully fill in the blanks.

Here’s his Scout Profile and HUDL. Was a 2* on Scout, with no offers listed. Rivals lists him as an unranked WR(although it looks like he would be a CB primarily) with little more than a picture in his profile.
