  1. OK let’s ffwd to next year. This football season is obviously a lost cause. Also both basketball teams won’t be good, so I guess we should focus on baseball next year. Who are the best prospects we have? Doesn’t look great. Anyone feel like we should just cancel all athletics programs? Reroute the resources to education. Corvallis based teams are cursed and can’t compete. Why bother?

    • I would rather route for the underdog, the team that puts in the work, fights through adversity and succeeds, winning despite the odds, than route for a team of spoiled under performers that never meet expectations. I am proud to be a Beaver fan, my alma-mater, and will not abandon them. Winning is much sweeter when earned through hard work. No shortcuts, cheating or payoffs. Blue collar Beavs. Lunch pail u. I’m not ready for basketball or baseball. I

  2. Stanton “never again.” Even in league play? And “He revealed that the Beavers struggled to adapt throughout the game when Minnesota utilized different pass-rushing techniques than they had seen on the previous season’s film.” Really? Like you didn’t have the reaction time to pick up the freshman Devers? How different can a technique be?

    http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2016/09/dustin_stanton_oregon_state_of.html#incart_river_index

And Ricky Ortiz learns he lived with mold spores, had allergies:

    http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2016/09/after_near_medical_retirement.html#incart_river_index

Good to see him getting another opportunity, this time at H-Back.

    • Re Stanton: At least the team is acting like a team this year. Good for him to step up and talk.

Re Ortiz: Wtf? Why is his slumlord allowed to poison him or anyone else for any length of time? If he were one of my tenants and was subjected to that (wouldn’t happen), I would be morally obliged to give him all his rent and deposit money back with a sincere apology for being a lousy and irresponsible owner of property.

      • “Re Stanton: At least the team is acting like a team this year. Good for him to step up and talk.”

        Good point.

I just think its funny that they overstate or overanalyze the problem – “we hadn’t seen that technique on film.” As beavergopher said, it was just quickness and (lack of) response.

But you’re right, Garretson and the lineman are staying together.

I also think Garretson will get better about getting rid of the ball quicker and being more aware of the rush. Idaho State won’t be a good metric for O line and QB improvement, but the BSU gaje should be a pretty good indicator of progress.

    • The only difference I saw was a major increase in blitzes from the Gophers. Clayes rarely blitzed and tried to keep things in front and make the tackle. Bend, don’t break. The new DC, Sawvel, was way more aggressive and da Beavs made him pay with the screen passes.
This is only Devers’ third year of playing football, so I doubt he beat him on techigue. Looks like it was just pure speed. Stanton appeared to be moving in slow motion.

  3. They just mention Remmers getting touched in the Super Bowl.

Seriously, how is Remmers the Panthers best option? He wasn’t even the Beavers best option…lol

  4. Off topic, PAC 12 network announced a deal with sling TV today. Definitely going to have to look into all the details because this is my only option to watch the beavs games that are on pac 12 network

      • https://www.sling.com/ they don’t have pac 12 listed yet. Prices seem reasonable. It’s a streaming TV feed, you gotta have a Roku or similar device(smart TV?). $20 or $30 a month additional sports & children’s packages available. The $30 gets you use on 3 devices,$ 20 just one. Month to month no contract.

      • I live in the stone ages and don’t have a laptop. I used to stream for free using my smart phone but I got a new phone and it’s having trouble streaming w/ all those damn pop ups. So this sling TV thing might be a viable option. It does have all the other channels I watch too…

        • fair enough. If you have ANY computer in your home that has internet capability you can still stream for free. Long as you aren’t so far in the stone age that you have dial up speed. The laptop suggestion was so you could put it near your TV and hook up the laptop to the TV via said HDMI cable so you can watch on your TV instead of a smaller computer screen. A desktop would still work it would just need to be at a reasonable distance from said TV, a longer HDMI cable would probably be necessary or you could move the TV or watch on the desktop computer screen. I still have DISH but do not pay for any of the extra sports stuff such as NFL Sunday ticket, NBA league pass, etc. There’s plenty of websites out there that stream for free in HD is all I’m sayin

          • We’re streaming thru a Kindle fire TV box using the Kodi app. Works great about 95% of the time. I streamed the cal/Hawaii game and my stepson watched the last NBA finals game on it. There’s a lot of servers on the different builds so you sometimes have to sift through them to find a good feed of the event you want to watch.

        • That’s the site I used to use with my old smartphone. I tried it with this one and I don’t know what happened but holy cow it was terrible. Opening new windows saying download this, you have viruses on your computer. No thanks…is there an app for Android to block all that crap? Before I was able to wade through it to watch the games but now it just opens new windows as fast as I close them.

          • I’m running FireFox on my Android phone and have installed Adblock Plus and Ghostery as add-ons. If you haven’t tried them you might want to give it a shot……..

    • “6. Practice took place about three hours earlier than normal, allowing coaches to get out on the road recruiting during the bye week. Players have a strength and conditioning workout Friday morning and then will be off for the weekend. ”

So he apparently arrives yesterday, and no practice until Monday. Will likely be little in the press about him until at least Monday.

And while its taken Wallace longer to qualify than anyone would like, I at least like the fact this staff appears to be getting it done, just as they did with Peko. With the previous staff, Wallace may not have shown at all.

      • Normally I don’t like to discuss some kid’s private life involving gf’s, but in the case of Wallace I am going to break the norm. He is extremely attached to the gf and sounds like he has trust issues with her. Not sure if that played into him going back home for awhile. She apparently said goodbye to him yesterday, so I am assuming he is here.
I hope he doesn’t make the mistake of Malcolm Agnew and decide that girls are way more important than football. If the girlfriend loves the guy, she will stick with him and the guy should then stop worrying so much and concentrate on football and school. Some guys just are not cut out for juggling girls and high profile college sports.

  5. Not sure if it was mentioned here already, but Paea signed with the Browns who also have Dylan Wynn (IR) Jordan Poyer, and Conner Hamlett (practice squad). Go Cleveland Beavers?

  6. Angry, I have been trying to post for days and nothing comes up. I have news tidbits every once in awhile that I’d like to be able to share here but I am afraid someone has banned me. I was vocal about Angie M. the other day and ever since I can’t post under my normal name.

      • Looks like i was able to unflag one of your posts that was listed as spam (post related to wallace’s gf)
I see another post under spam, dont i dont see the option to unflag it. Strange. Hopefully Angry is able to correct any other issues

  7. Idaho State plays at Colorado today and Washington State plays at Boise State as well. Good games to watch and see what we have coming the next three weeka.

  9. Nicholls only down by 3 at Georgia at the half. If Nicholls wins, that would be a monumental upset. 37 point dogs to the Dawgs, and we know they suck

      • Georgia is more over-ranked each year than any other team. SEC always tries to pain them as an Alabama of the East division and they are much closer to Vanderbilt level. By the the time they fade out of the Top 25 in Week 7 or 8 , a few of their teams have already secured their wins over a Top 20 team by beating a Georgia team who is consistently 8 or 9 spots higher in rankings than they have any business of having. Stanford would beat Georgia 9 times out of 10.

    • LOL at the 3 linemen as backs. Not one of them even tried to block anybody. Looks like they did that play one time at practice and called it good.

    • Whittingham with smart coaching on that last offensive drive, hard count to try to draw offsides, taking the delay to eat clock and actually make the FG easier.
Lots to fault both teams for, but a couple rough lines for the Beavs to face Oct 15 in Corvallis.

  10. Someone brought this up: The last time a SWAC team beat a I-A / FBS opponent was 1985 (Grambling 23, Oregon State 6).

Another fun fact about Oregon State’s history.

    • There are things I like about Mike Leach including the way he handles reporters. :-)

I like the fact that he’s on his team about being tough during a game. Which is the attitude that GA is bringing to Corvallis.

However, I didn’t hear him comment on some of the coaching decisions/mistakes that were made during the game.

Golly gee I guess that means he’s human, just like the rest of us.

  11. I thought BSU looked pretty solid; good defense, pass protection was pretty good, giving QB time to make downfield throws. Given OSUs inability to rush the passer at Minnesota, and their own QB protection challenges, this should shape up to be a good challenge and measuring stick in a few weeks.

    • A week two bye following that week one loss may not be all that bad. Hopefully such an early bye is able to negate any loser mentality and has the season feeling fresh and new all over again.

      • The mentality thing certainly is a possibility.
However, I am hoping the situation at Center is resolved during this time; either by Yanni improving or maybe Kearsley getting in shape to step up.
Also, the time off should help Nall recover from the tweak…he didn’t look himself for most of the Minn game.
Hope Gina or Horowitz is all over these items this week.

  12. Next weekend’s UO/Nebraska game shaping up to be interesting:

Riley has ducks where he wants them:

    http://www.omaha.com/huskers/football/shatel-nebraska-oregon-could-be-fascinating-matchup-depending-on-which/article_bcdfa1d0-77aa-11e6-a13a-2bdaa23e4b3d.html

“No, it wasn’t like Oregon’s Ducks dominated OSU while Riley was in black and orange. But they got more than their share of the in-state rivalry dubbed the “Civil War.” – Huh?!?

    And:

Banker equipped to exorcise demons against UO:

“But let’s be more specific here. Oregon’s piñata wasn’t Mike Riley, it was Mark Banker. In the seven losses, the Beavers gave up an average of 578 yards and 45.6 points. Time and time again, Oregon humiliated him.

“I can’t say there’s a lot of love in my heart right there,” Banker said.

    http://www.omaha.com/huskers/football/chatelain-mark-banker-better-equipped-to-exorcise-oregon-demons/article_edd1acf8-77a9-11e6-bce2-cf233ede5128.html

    • Thanks for the links. Here is the part which makes it clear the Husker writer is catching on:

“…Riley talks each week about cleaning up the mistakes. This is a recording. That was the plan all spring. Last year. The year before and before that.

At some point, you are what you do over and over.

There are bad habits ingrained here, and this isn’t just on the previous staff’s tab. Riley and Co. have had a year to pound discipline into this team. Clearly, it’s not there yet. And it’s hard to see it changing anytime soon.”

  13. Is this a beaver page or what? Half of what I see is about Riley and the other half is music videos. Turn the page, Riley is gone. Nebraska has their own deal, go talk nebraska sports on their site. I come here to see opinions about beaver football. Guess maybe I should rethink that. Any other sites worth visiting that focus on OSU sports?

  14. http://www.scout.com/college/oregon-state/story/1705529-top-wide-receivers-of-the-decade-5

Going back to 2007 the top 4 are obvious

    Brandin Cooks
    Marcus Wheaton
    Sammie Stroughter
    James Rodgers

They couldn’t come up with a better number 5?

I’d have picked Richard Mullaney over him at 5. I’ll omit Darrell Droppings, I mean Catchings from consideration. I’m sure there’s been others than those mentioned that received for more than 461 yards and 3 TD’s in a season in the last 10 years. That is not a bright spot

    • We had a pretty good run of #1 receivers for about a decade there. Amazing how much having an elite receiver opens up everything else on the offense.

    • Those four are good.

I don’t know why they would talk about Bolden as a runner or returner when we’re talking about receivers. If we’re talking about numbers over a career, I would put Bolden at about 8… tied with Mullaney. He’s had one good year and one moderate. And he can move up to as high as 5 with a great season… higher with a Belitnekoff Award… which he won’t get. He won’t catch the ball over the middle, so he’s a liability there. But he can catch on the edges and sometimes deep. If he does more scoring, his numbers start looking a lot better.

I’d put Quizz at 5, Villamin at 6 and Halahuni at 7.

  15. What’s the word on Wallace? Can we start a Where’s Wallace thread and see who posts the first proof either way? No excuse by media to not confirm if he is with the team today.

  16. Connected on a great bull last weekend…leaves me with the rest of September to watch football and hopefully catch some fall salmon!

  17. What to look for this weekend –

    1. A win!
    2. No big hiccups. Put the game away early.
    3. I’m going to say the intro video is going to be weird. They haven’t been good since 2008.

A big win will show the program has made some progress. A win like last year’s over Weber St isn’t going to cut it. Needs to be a blowout for fans to see any light at the end of the tunnel.

  18. Any great ideas for breakfast tailgating items? Looks like we are getting the 11:00 games here, the equivalent of the late starts in Corvallis. We have done the breakfast burrito to death. These early games suck.

      • I’m in agreement with the Fuck Mike Riley part but then again Fuck The ducks is also part of my vocabulary. Thus I’m in a quandary about this topic.

All I can come up with so far is Fuck ’em both. Game called because of ????? and they both have to forfeit the game……..

    • I’d give Nebraska a puncher’s chance but there’s two things working against them.

      1. Oregon’s run D sucks. Simple Jack always talks about committing to the run more but never does. Strike 1

      2. Banker defense. Strike 2

    • And because nobody wants to watch a boring, pre-Idaho State presser, the summary from Gina:

      http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2016/09/oregon_state_used_bye_week_for.html#incart_river_index

“Andersen acknowledged the emotions of the Beavers’ home opener, particularly since they will be using their new locker room on game day and running out of their new tunnel for the first time.

“I would hope that would come with a ton of excitement, which I absolutely guarantee that it will,” Andersen said. “But I also hope it comes with responsibility. I’m not gonna let go of all those steps that we need to turn around and take.

“It’s not just running around with my head cut off and being crazy. It’s holding it in the moment and understanding it, but yet playing with emotion but playing as a team. That locker room and this facility (were) built with expectations, and they’re responsible to go out there and represent Beaver Nation the right way.”

What do people guess for attendance? I’m thinking around 34K?

      • Home CW and a decent road showing… I think the official count will be north of 40K. Whether or not there will actually be that many, we’ll see.

If it’s a sell-out, then our sell-out streak will be as long as the one down here.
