This is starting to look more and more like a “begin with a bang, end with a whimper” recruiting cycle.
Last night I heard from some sources that we’re out on Moore, Daniel Green, TJ Green, and only 50/50 on Cotton. This source is wrong a lot of the time (but shouldn’t be, given their stature), so take it for what it’s worth. This person also thinks we land Judson, which makes no sense.
My feelings:
Cotton 70%
Daniel Green 40%
Judson 10%
TJ Green 1%
Moore 1%
There’s a mad scramble to pickup linemen, etc. It just seems like a few dominoes feel and now it’s on to the C-list to fill out the class. I don’t think we reach top 35 yet again. I thought GA would have us in the top 35 or even top 30 by year 3. He was on pace for that, but couldn’t close. Those criticizing the staff for inability to close have merit as of today, but let’s see how things shake out in a few days before cementing that notion.
Edit: also heard one of the QBs will transfer or change positions. Sounds like it’s Moran since every other P5 school recruited him at safety, and I expected this all along since he can’t throw.
Ur pretty on point with some of those i think but i feel we have a little better chance with cotton. He seems like a silent committ. Did they say anything about falaniko?
Utah or USC with OSU having bad odds.
F Utah
They’ve come in late on so many of the guys our coaches have recruited all year and poached them. Last year and this year.
USC I can understand losing to, but we need to get to the point where a Utah offer doesn’t trump on Oregon State offer. Need to win more games and hope Utah slides a little (too bad we dont play them head to head for a couple of years)
I’ve always hated Utah (the Uni not the State…since that 2008 game with the phantom PI call). I paid more attention to their fans after that, and they’re completely delusional. Hack program. They do have beautiful scenery/outdoors and a major city, which both beat Corvallis (for most people/recruits who want night life). So I get why a recruit would like that part of it. Though, when I was there, you couldn’t find a liquor store, and the two I did find only sold wine.
Night life in SLC?
Are they going to hang out at the bus station?
And their bowl winning team barely beat us. Was looking for some payback next year as well!
I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of these coaches become highly frustrated. To put in a year or two of work for a commitment, then have them bolt the last week. It’s bad for morale. Cory Hall is a guy I like a lot as a coach and recruiter, but I know his wife hates Oregon. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him bolt soon. I’d like to hear an interview by the media asking how bad a toll this recruiting takes on coaches morale. I’m curious. Might be some truth to it being hard to recruit to Corvallis. Sure seems hard to seal the deal compared with other schools in major cities (part of the reason I think a Portland footprint is a great idea)
Hello?
Hi.
Someone said that ga was going to have an in home visit with judson today so that could have a lot to say about it. It seems like GA’s staff has been pretty good at holding onto and finishing out their last classes. I feel he might have a couple of cards up his sleeve. Tyler was i great get i feel and i had mentioned earlier that phillips was the one that had found him.
See edit in the OP about a QB transferring or changing positions as well. Forgot to mention that.
Forgive my ignorance but whats the op?
Original Post………above
Old popcorn. Still left over from BDC.
I havent given up on Moore yet. He seemed pretty into OSU a couple of weeks ago. Been pretty quiet since, however
Yes, noticed this. Did get quite a steady stream offers from well established football programs since, as supposed to the last minute.
Without being aware of the particular details of each, I could see where this might give him pause.
I will say as a OSU fan it’s hard to watch and stomach the recuriting process from time to time. That being said I would say GA and staff have upped the OSU recuriting profile with other programs. That means we are in fights for bigger profile recurits with other programs. Plus I think we are targeting better players early and then fighting to keep other programs at bay. I’ve only followed OSU recuriting since 2011. This did not happen under Riley’s watch example battles to keep our commits. What hasn’t changed is the big time programs trying to poach at the last second. They usually can win because they are viewed as winning programs and bigger programs. It’s a hard fight out there for commits. I saw a tweet on 247sports the other day 20 commits decommited in the past 36 hours. I imagine that number is even higher now.
Rarely did P5 schools want his recruits.
So Calvin’s final two is nebraska and wsu. Why even bother committing like he did if we’re not even in his final two. What a bunch of hype to be let down. That being said with all the receivers im not especially worried about it. Rather him not go to wsu tho.
Nebraska and Oregon, actually.
Via his twitter:
@Jcalv6
The final 2 college choices for me are Nebraska and Washington State. #GoCougs #GBR
My bad. I think Oregon is in the mix still.
Bingo… receiver bus is full, see ya!
Lol I just saw that too. What a joke. But I still gotta remember he’s a kid. Would be hilarious if he went to Wazzu tho. Just to stick it to those Husker fans saying “Why would he ever choose OSU over Nebraska?!?”
Yeah but the WHOLE issue was getting his parents to go to the games. Wazzu hardest place to get too.
It seems to suggest we backed off his recruitment once he decommitted.
Nemec said as much earlier today:
https://twitter.com/AndrewNemec/status/824359050817056768
Oregon State moved on due to tight numbers, Calvin looking elsewhere. Mutual. No shock here. https://t.co/drtxff3Ui4
“Oregon State moved on due to tight numbers”
GOOD!
The thing i worry about a little, with WSU, is they offered Arex Flemings recently, back before Jamire picked OSU. Those dudes want to play together. If he goes to WSU, does Flemings go to? And where would that leave Manning?
For that reason, I hope he just goes to Nebraska.
D. Green to skip his planned visit to OSU this weekend in favor of a trip to Ole Miss.
Article has some other non-Green related comments.
http://www.oregonlive.com/recruiting/index.ssf/2017/01/daniel_green_wests_top_mlb_can.html#incart_river_index
Not surprised. The kid always gave me a read of I want out of Oregon as far away as possible vibe.
Heh beat me to it on the Green news. Bummer but thanks !
Well… he’s talked to Utah and KState, and now he’s talking to Miss.
I’d say he a lock for Juco.
Naw, Neb and WSU. Hope he goes Neb.
Anyone have confirmation that D Green cancelled his visit this weekend? Is there an updated visitor list?
Also Conor Blount seems like the obvious QB candidate to move on. No schollie and no realistic shot at PT at this point.
Green cancelled. Only known visitor right now is JC OL Clay Cordasco
I like that kids film.
Nemec live chatting now, lots of hole comments so far.

Ya i would be on there but for some reason can’t get an account set up. I’m wondering if he thinks ga can pull out some surprises?
Sounds like a bummer end to the ra’crutin cycle.
GA has to be getting pissed at his buddy at Utah.
Such is life for the Beavers. It will only change with a breakthrough year.
OT: VC has no PG targets for the 2018 cycle for MBB. Can this be true? Any rumors for 2017 JC’s?
Not gonna sweat this, it appears that by next recruiting cycle their will be a December signing period. I think that will solve much of this. Teams won’t have the time to make these late poaching offers while also getting ready for Bowls. They’ll be some (like we say with that back from FL and CB from TX this year) but I think it helps an OSU type program overall.
More evidence that GA can’t close…
Re recruiting: I haven’t seen this mentioned but with the turn over OSU has had in the coaching ranks it doesn’t surprise me that some of the kids lose interest in the Beavs.
Notably: Sitake and Tuiaki to BYU; Brennan and Odum to SJS. There could be others but these are the ones that come to mind immediately.
Good point.
I think assistant coaches moving on isn’t that significant. It happens all the time and in OSU’s case they all moved on to quality situations. They weren’t fired a la Banker and Read.
Getting Cotton & Judson is only way I feel GA closed strong at this point.
Cotton by himself is consolation and minimum to not feel that Oregon State closed very poorly.
When they visited together I do think Cotton wss high on Beavs and he & Judson had a talk thinking they could make Oregon State into the big brother in the state, but if GA really wants to show he is taking a step up un Year 3 recruiting then he better sell it & get the guys to play for him.
Why would Judson be a strong finish? He looks to me like a short Seth Collins… a project with all the ‘tude of a diva.
And fuck that big brother garbage. The guy who started that talk (and the equally stupid Natty) was ceremoniously enabled then dumped by Nikegon fan. If that’s what a sibling does, then they’re not one to me.
And consider this on Judson… he turns 20 less than a week after the 2017 regular season ends.
Does that change the perception on his highlight reel?
At the end of the day it comes down to winning. Players want to go play for a winner.
I still feel pretty good about this class, expect a Bowl game next year and still put the over/under at 6.5 wins, you somehow get to 8-4 and I bet we see a top 25 class unlike under Riley.
I hear everyone but I gotta say I’ve been impressed with the efforts of this coaching staff to go big or go home. I have way more confidence in GA than in Riley when if comes to recruiting. Riley’s lack of overall good recruiting is now covered up by the fact he is at one of the demigods of football. OSU is a harder fight in the recruiting battle. I think we have to remember where we are:
1) A team looking like the bad news bears when Riley exited… wasn’t much in the cupboards.
2) All new coaching staff just 2 years ago who have took a team with no hope to a team with hope.
3) Mud&Sticks point on coaches being poached.
4) We don’t have that winning team stat yet.
If GA can improve even more in his 3rd year and especially if he breaks .500, you will see a recruiting difference in the near future. If we don’t win more in 2017 baby then things will not get better in our recruiting efforts. It not about winning, it is just about winning.
Yeah… I don’t get a lot of the gnashing of teeth with this “closing” narrative. We’re already better off than we were three years ago because our coaches went out and tried to get a lot of good players and got some of them. That’s better than trying to get the leftovers and getting some of them.
The players poached from Riley’s teams are projects in this class. And I suspect there’s not as much poaching as there is the realization that some of these kids aren’t going to make it academically, and we need to go to our plan B or C.
Guess what. Our plans B and C for a lot of these roles are better than we got in past classes. And they’re getting incrementally better year after year.
I think there’s something to be said for losing good players because of academics late in the process. But them’s the breaks sometimes. Start winning, and the good players who are also good students start taking notice… more so than they are now.
Too much dithering I think. Andersen and staff can only do so much. These kids are influenced by facilities glitter and a high profile program. They are not loyal. Andersen went after some big ones b4 other programs knew about those players.
The new offers are sure to include some worthwhile players who might want to work harder. In those cases, I think Andersen and company are capable of coaching them up and finding the jewel in the mix. Far more than Riley was, although he accepted that description.
BTW – Treston DeCoud interview b4 the EW Shrine game gave credit to Cory Hall.

I know stars don’t mean much to many of us, but it just feels like this class is 3+, whereas Riley lingered around 2.5+, even with a winning season. These guys look the part and are not projects either. Next years focus needs to be on getting LBs and Linemen to a 3+ level, don’t see it happening this recruiting cycle. Overall this class should get us back to 6-6 or 7-5 season next year which will be nice.
Yeah, every GA recruit is more polished. No projects. So legit 3 star guys are fine. His 2 star guys even look pretty good for the most part. At least guys who can add depth and play special teams and maybe as upperclassmen even start.
Riley 3 star = GA 4 star
Riley 2 star = GA 3 star
Riley couldn’t evaluate. It’s no surprise that once Jim Gilstrap died the team collapsed. That guy had a great eye for talent and Riley benefited from him.
Who would be a late surprise at this point? I’m not hearing any interesting names. Like the equivalent of Lucas (bust for sure, but we felt good about landing a high star guy). A high 3 star or 4 star guy. Anyone in the rumor mill who fits, NiceBeav?
I hope for a positive signing day surprise but not seeing many options.
I think Falaniko would be the closest thing to a surprise. Haven’t heard of any guys who are silently in the pipeline, and i haven’t seen any behavior on twitter trending that way.
Sorry, wish I had something to put a positive spin on for you.
Of the players left, who are projected as mission signees?
I think just Bowcut. If we land Tanielu Pututau or Mo Unutoa, I think both would be mission bound as well
I was afraid Unutoa might be one. That would suck. There’s something very primal in the way that kid moves.
It seems like most of the guys we have left on our want list, including Unutoa, have received recent interest from Oregon. It’s almost like Oregon’s staff said “hey, if they’re considering playing in this state, then maybe they’d be easy pickings!”
Their class seems to be a hodge podge of just offering everybody with a high star rating under the sun, and then seeing who sticks. Not a surgical recruiting cycle at all. They may end up with a more talented class than us again, but the whole class will be weaker than the sum of the individual pieces. I feel like our staff has been focused on guys who will fit their system well.
I’m not gonna lie. Them getting Unutoa would make me feel like when they got Unger. It would suck.
But there has always been the possibility he’s been a homer for them and is just now getting noticed because someone at the death star can read the interwebs.
We’re not even top 50 now in recruiting:
http://247sports.com/Season/2017-Football/CompositeTeamRankings
247 averages all the sites into a composite score.
So who’s the chaff in this class?
Look closely though, not really much difference between 52 and 35
It would help a lot if short had a ranking.
You do not have to be a statistician to see that 247 numbers do not add up. They are always slow to update and I have found many errors in their tabulations. How can we be ranked 52nd on 247 if all they do is combine all other ranking services information into one. Rivals has us 40, Scout has us 45, ESPN has us out of the top 40 and do not rank past that (although I saw an article on their website that had us 38, but this same article was heavily skewed toward number of recruits as it had Tennessee’s 28 recruits number 1).
Other errors of 247 off the top of my head include past Pac 10 rankings for Oregon State at 11th in the in the Pac 10 prior to 2011 when their were 10 teams, Aaron Short not being ranked yet having a 2 star on Rivals and ESPN has him ranked as the highest 3 star we have. It took them weeks to remove Asemota and Fauatea as commitments.
Just a few reasons why you can take 247 with grain of salt. I think they will eventually catch up and fix their errors. It is a useful sight for many comparisons though. A recruiting class in the low 40s where I believe it actually is, is pretty good. I would like it to be better, but progress is being made.
I saw a remark earlier about how Lutu Clarke is a low rated recruit, though this may be true the Oregon State staff identified him as priority recruit and offered him a long time ago. He was not a last minute stop gap recruit. I am not too concerned that recruiting services or other programs have not caught on to him.
I really think we saw GA’s are better than the sites give them credit for. Just look at all of the heavily recruited lbs from last years class all looked pretty solid. If he does the same with wrs and dbs this class they’ll be in good shape.
If we continue to get classes of this caliber, we may get a sniff of the Rosebowl in a 4-6 year cycle. Similar to a Kansas State or Iowa, where they have 9-3 or maybe even a 10-2 team every so often. Even then the CFP odds will have to be in our favor (Rose Bowl not hosting etc). I’m OK with that for now, but I could see us getting restless if GA doesn’t turn the corner in the next couple of years. Was hoping for a couple more 4* to speed up the process. We’ll see.
Judson sporting Oregon State gear in latest under the radar tweet. Appears to be from today.
https://twitter.com/TRONE2/status/824414683717369856
The coaches are visiting him, so that’s not surprising at all.
I wouldn’t read into that.
Hopefully they can sway him that would help this class out. Not to mention hurt hole.
Interesting fact thus far this class the Beavers have beat Oregon out for 2 recruits. The last time we beat them for a recruit was in 2013 (Harlow), 2012(Seumalo), and the last time we beat them for more than 1 recruit was 2009 (3). In 2009 the recruits we beat them for were not ranked very high except Phillip.
Well shit I would hope so, they just cleaned house a few months before signing day
Think things are trending in the wrong direction with another recruit. Andersen needs to pull a cat out of a hat soon.
You’re just gonna say that but not say who?
Also, what does that mean?
+1 and +1
+2 I guess.

We know Cotton isn’t a given.
Playing both sides just like Judson. Has been for weeks.
I suggest just stepping away for a couple of days and seeing what happens on signing day.
Whoa!
Cotton tartan!
We need to recruit someone named Flannel just for hype-mongers like you.
Cotton follows about 15 Beavs and just 1 or 2 Buffs on Twitter. His last follow was the new CU DC but that guy probably isn’t that good as they had to make a scramble hire.
Judson announces at 4:30 tomorrow so will try to ignore Twitter until then.
Judson is now announcing tomorrow? He said Wednesday, then Friday…just become a Duck already, dood, and then go to JC as we all know you will.
My bad. Friday at 4:30.
He announced on Wed who his Top 2 were with a Friday announcement of who he will be signing with in Feb. He doesn’t feel like a typical OSU recruit…too flashy.
Regarding Moore (who to me should be priority #1 till signing day) it looks like we’re still in the conversation. That’s a big smile.
https://twitter.com/coachTcsm/status/824480165346488321
i find the language in the photohraph favorable also. We’ll see!
Are we allowed to have an O-line coach that tall?
https://www.instagram.com/p/BPtwCIAB0sP/
Thats my #1
The way I look at it, there are 64 power conference teams, and two significant Independents in BYU and Notre Dame — so 66 teams. If our class is around 40th, that’s not too bad, probably good for 8th place in ANY of the power 5 conferences. Come end of next year and we have a winning record, if we are not trending into the top 35, then I would be concerned. For any of these guys mentioned above, like others have said, would be great for depth, but could care less about all of the drama. I’m not sure why any of them hold out on announcement….are they not at risk of losing out to somebody else?
” I’m not sure why any of them hold out on announcement….are they not at risk of losing out to somebody else?”
Makes me think of Himphill last year. Was supposedly a silent OSU commit for over a month, but got several late offers including Arizona. He played all sides for too long and eventually lost all of his Pac12 opportunities, eventually landing at SDSU.
Hopefully the possibility of that kind of scenario is explained to them by the coaches. Still not sure they understand how fast everything about the process can move in the final week, as none of them have experience doing it multiple times — also, it’s not a gameshow, the likelihood of the prize getting bigger the further they go into this month diminishes IMHO.
I’m guessing he’s kicking himself for having to spend his formative years as a scholarship athlete in San Diego.
Total bummer, dude!
Sorry BG, looks like your Gophs are a pledge…
https://twitter.com/joshuacroslen/status/824639927715520512
Life of a rodent! Fleck has done a good job of keeping most of the players and bringing in some good ones. Hate to lose DT’s, but with an entirely new coaching staff, it is to be expected.
This will be like GA. Not afraid to go after better players. All good. They have a JC and a higher rated prep DT visiting this weekend, so the timing is interesting. JC has a great name….Royal Silver LOL.
Every offer announcement summed up in 1 tweet:
All praise and glory to our creator for blessing me with this god giving talent truly honored to receive a(n) offer from NC STATE ????? https://t.co/X209d64v4t
He just needed an “University of NC State” and I always like the “a(n)”
It’s just grammar math.
Given the variables a and n, an=a(n)=(a)n=(a)(n)
Technically correct. Thanks for explaining. Hadn’t thought of the mathematical aspect
Give me a season or two when none of our coaches are poached for other coaching jobs…I really think that hurts consistency and stability within the team. Along with recruiting.
Golly, I gave you guys plenty of those seasons! No one ever wanted to poach Mark or Bruce for some reason. Life’s full of mysteries!
These kids are trolling the hell out of a lot of you. Just stop watching and check in wed afternoon.
But… but… we need to win the off-season! And then we need to sew blue tartan collars on our unis!
Is there a blue digi-camo-tartan out there? That would be best so our image while winning would be one of hard work, humility and sincerity.
I’m calling alternate facts on your post.
Next you’re going to tell us that college football is just a business.
There is NO off-season!
There is NO tomorrow!
Give a 110%!
Honestly, the main reason I hope we land Bruce is for the mustache comedy. Other than that, I’d prefer a more focused player get that schollie, even if the talent level isn’t on par with him.
Shouldn’t this have a date on it?
https://twitter.com/BeaverFootball/status/824650231383928832/photo/1
Funny, i had the same thought when i saw that this morning. Details are important…
Or a Fig at least.
Put a Beaver on it.
I’m still wondering why we’re concerned with ratings. Neither the star system’s methodology nor its results justify its existence.
It’s about getting better athletes, preferably ones who are specialized in football. Our previous staff ignored better athletes and went after good football players first. There is a point where good athletes who also specialize in football are surpassed by great athletes who are raw. And that’s not a very low point.
Our incoming players are now longer, leaner, faster and bigger than they were a decade ago. They’re the clay I was begging for when Riley was turning over rocks. Now they can be molded into a football team.
And as we leave kicking rocks in the past and begin to relish digging in the dirt, we’ll find there are better strains of clay down there.
I agree. Look at all the players he recruited getting playing time and looking good. The linebackers they recruited last class are really good athletes and the wrs this class.
Per discussions this morning, I’d bump the odds on Moore up to 50% OSU.
What’s the pay-out for those who took the over when it was… hold on… 1%?
I’m going to Price is Right you and go with 51%
Oh man, I hated it when contestants would do that.
I think this girl sums up our feelings…

Go toilet seats!
Remember to steal some sheep
Yesterday angry asked about potential surprise players.
Most everybody, we’ve already heard about by this time, if theyre on OSUs radar so they wouldnt qualify as a surprise.
I can think of one guy who I would love to see his name pop up on signing day as a true surprise. He would fit a need. He would make sense from a pipeline building perspective. He would make sense from a can’t miss prospect perspective. And he would be a total surprise to Beaver fans if his name were brought up. I have nothing to go on but just my gut here. No inside info. Just a wishful guess.
Josh Falo
Tight end( which we have zero of in this class)
Inderkum high school (Trajon Cotton)
TMPMafia ties
4* guy who could would instantly be one of our top recruits (if not #1)
So there you go Beaver fans. Instead of selling hope, I’m giving it away for free, because that’s all it’s worth.
Is he still visiting Oregon this weekend?
Think so. Like I said, he would represent a true surprise. Dont expect anything to happen in our favor here. He just is the guy who i would be surprised by, but also would make some sense to me.
Did he ever visit OSU?
Not that I know of, but if he had, then I couldn’t consider him a surprise
Judson had a periscope the other day and someone asked what time his announcement was and he said 4:10 Corvallis time
Hah. If he’s a Duck he’d love to scorn the Beavers like that.
I agree with whoever above said he doesn’t seem like a Beaver, personality-wise. I’m skeptical but will watch curiously.
For those upset about that “political” thread (more like an economic thread) last week, I just read Trump signed an executive order to cut off all grants and federal funding to sanctuary cities. Portland, Corvallis, and Beaverton are the 3 up in Oregon. There’s also something floating around in my news feed that Bannon is a Leninist who is intent to “blow up the system” and make the people beg for the old days (i.e. when America was great, in their view). Fun.
Should be interesting to see how the grant issue affects Corvallis. I think my earlier thread (and even the one from 2012) was on point…the political matters do, can, will affect colleges.
Think I heard on NPR that Oregon is technically a sanctuary state…back in 89 a bill was passed.
Bannon being a Leninist is nothing new.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/08/22/steve-bannon-trump-s-top-guy-told-me-he-was-a-leninist.html
Regarding the states doing the the job of the federal government without enumeration for remuneration… good luck with that. It would be nice if the dumb fucks who are now in the Oval Office would pick up a copy of the US Constitution and read it.
It’s not like the states Trump is punishing for not voting for him aren’t already the ones paying all the taxes in this country and getting less than a one for one return of that money. What’s a heavier dose of taxation without representation going to do? Unite the people.
America first is the organized will of the people!
On the bright side, there’s this:
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-idUSKBN1592LM
And I don’t know why Bannon being called a Leninist is a bad thing. It actually sort of humanizes him. He’s a Leninist while the Trumpster fire burns. But solipsism is his game, and he’s just another Goldman alum who wants to rule the world.
Since Trumpty has already gone all Godwin with his doublespeak, I’ll suggest this for some light reading.
http://press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/511928.html
But hey! Look at the bright side. Amerika isn’t completely rouge, like the Khmer were. It’s got a lot of yellow in it, making it l’orange.
America is obsessed with Trump. There is nothing in the media but Trump. It’s borderline pathological.
I agree.
It’s almost as if he’s the President of the United States of America.
It’s just strange.
Is the men’s basketball game against Colorado still on tonight or did the Beavs forfeit?
I think just the fans have forfeited
Beavs doing well – if you aren’t watching or listening, leave it alone.
Oregon just lost a verbal pledge from florida. Former usf commit. Sounds like he’s having trouble trusting Willie. Shocking.
What’s even more shocking is that *anyone* trusts Willie.
Am I that good at reading people and most don’t have this skill?? It’s so obvious he’s a slime ball who is all about self promotion.
It was nice to see the DUI story break on his assistant coach. Under Chip Kelly, the EPD treated public arrests one way, UO football arrests another (at least for athletes). Under Willie, doesn’t look like they’ll get that treatment. Add the training program debacle, and I say early signs point poor HC judgement, turmoil, and a Taggert tenure of less than 4 years. Recruits parents should be mindful.
And then some of these kids think NU, where Riley will be gone in less than years.
Andersen is the safest bet of the three, even with his nomadic history.
New bball jerseys?
Was wondering if they’re new or just that I haven’t watched a game in so long. Are they black? On my TV they’re almost charcoal looking.
Beavs are down 1 point. The a-hole announcers on the OSU/Colo mbb game: “Colorado is only a half away from their first Pac-12 win.”
Knock knock
Who’s there?
Owen
Owen who?
Owen eight
Adam Gorney column from today on 2 big undecided recruits out West. 2nd player mentioned was TraJon Cotton.
Contenders: Oregon State, Colorado, Oregon
The latest: Cotton absolutely loved his recent visit to Oregon State and really appreciated the family atmosphere around the program from coach Gary Andersen on down. He also seemed to love the setup in Corvallis and his opportunity to get on the field early. Oregon is also making a push, especially since Cotton has had such a great relationship with new defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt, who came over from Colorado. The Buffaloes were considered to be possibly at the top of the board, but after Leavitt left, there seems to be some uncertainty there. Cotton is getting to know new defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot quickly, so Colorado is absolutely still a contender.
Prediction: Oregon State
With Oregon losing safety commit Gibson today, i wouldnt be shocked if that was because they are going to try bringing in cotton to sway falo their way.
Nemic is saying we picked up a silent commit this evening.
Probably Kesi Ah Hoy.
Charles Moku Watson wasnt silent about it
Where did Nemec mention it?
Facebook
Looks pretty decent on film. Not as big or fast as Nall, but maybe a back in that mold.
https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/12232
I think Ah Hoy was offered as a defensive player though. I was thinking he was the plan B if Falaniko fell through, but could be wrong
Could be wrong but I believe the Beavs are actually recruiting him as safety or linebacker and not a running back
That’s good. He looks okay at RB, but think he’d be better if moved.
Mamma Machado: Ducks just landed commitment from RB Cyrus Habibi-Likio–the third RB commit in the class. Could it help #GoBeavs with Bruce Judson?
I still feel it’s a no. He doesn’t seem our type.
OT, diversions from recruiting:
Eggers on Mikayla Pivec, an impressive FR student-athlete who will solidify the PG position for another 3 years:
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/256-sports/kerry-eggers/341408-221392-osus-young-achiever-embraces-challenge
And on OSU FR swimmer Felicia Andeson, Jimmy Anderson’s granddaughter. Cool “legacy” story:
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/256-sports/kerry-eggers/341896-219501-andersons-swimming-talent-surfaces-at-osu
TUCK FINKLE!!!!!!! HUUURRIBUUULLLLL!!!
The silent commit is probably Ah Hoy but Darrick Yray tweeted NorCalBeavs earlier today so maybe it’s TraJon Cotton?
https://twitter.com/dyray22/status/824737985706881026
I think its Cotton but think both end up committing.
Obviously it’s Cotton AND Falo, since he said “Beavs” ;)
https://twitter.com/dyray22/status/824737985706881026
May have tweeted NorCal because they offered some 2018 TMPmafia kids today
I’d put my odds for remaining targets at:
Cotton 90%
Judson 40% – I think he’d get more playing time here and Oregon has 3 RB commits already
Geroge Moore 50%- He likes Coach Andersen hopefully it pays off
Falaniko 50%- USC is likely pushing him out the door to make room for a better LB recruit but Falaniko is visiting Oregon this week. So it should be between the two Oregon schools
More musical schollies, as Jaxson Kirkland de-vervals from UCLA. Likely going to UW. Which means UCLA meeds another OLineman, which means I bet the come hard after a certain Juco OL guy from San Mateo.
Did Kirkland have any intrest in OSU?
Not really. UW was always his dream offer. He’d be a legacy guy up there as his dad is a former OL.
Had been committed to UCLA thinking UW wouldnt offer, but they finally did just a couple of days ago.
Kirkland… in Seattle….
Why does that sound familiar?
Isn’t he usually at Costco?
He just goes there for the samples.
No… Costco… Seattle… Kirkland….
He is the samples.
Soylent Purple?
Well, the Calvin saga is over…until it’s not. I wonder if he knows his QB can’t get him the ball when he’s in the fetal position in the backfield.
From our perspective, i think we can close that book. Sounded like our coaches had moved on, so even if he renegs on nebby, he won’t be coming here.
Sounds like this was what he wanted all along, so good for him, getting what he wanted. Too bad he had to burn bridges on his journey, but 17-18 year olds make mistakes just like the rest of us.
Has anyone asked the nebby fans how much they had to offer in order to beat the Beav’s offer? :-)
I mean after all they’re accusing the kid of taking bribes and the Beavs of giving them so if all of that were true (which it’s not) then imo that must mean nebby offered more scratch than what the Beavs did.
Fuck ’em, poke a stick in their eye.
A mysterious Nebraska donar will just happen to be at the LA airport to give his family a ride to all the games…..
Just calling them out for it is enough. We don’t have to stoop to their level on this.
I was never impressed with him. I get he’s shifty and all that but I think we can find someone who gives better production. I’m higher on 3-star Kolby Taylor
Well the next coach at Neb. will have to thank MR for getting him……unless he flips to Wazzu on NSD. Not a big loss. RB Green is.
Yeah Green is the bigger loss. Would have been a great KR/PR 3rd down back.
Who is this new 2-star RB out of Texas, BJ Baylor?
Neither Scout nor Rivals has a profile of him. GA is turning over some stones…panic?
Doubt GA panics, just going through priorities…is he a DI RB or LB? How is his film?
Did we offer? the tweet just looks like films
Here’s Scout’s very limited profile
247 has Texas Tech interest but I don’t think they offered
http://www.scout.com/player/200981-b-j-baylor
Any sort of final lists for visitors this weekend?
Olive said BJ Baylor is visiting this weekend. Cordasco OL is the other one that I know of.
All I know about bj Baylor is that he has an offer from Texas tech
Suit alleges 52 rapes by Baylor football player in 4 years…..
http://www.dallasnews.com/news/baylor/2017/01/27/new-baylor-lawsuit-describes-show-em-good-time-culture-cites-52-rapes-football-players-4-years
….wonder if this suit was timed to coincide with signing day…..
wouldn’t suprise me
includes allegations coaching staff sent women to have sex with recruits….
a student athletic trainer reported that Chatman raped her at his off-campus apartment, so the university moved the trainer to a female sports team and agreed to pay for her education in exchange for a non-disclosure agreement.
The lawsuit describes a culture of sexual violence within Baylor’s athletics, in which the school implemented a “show ’em a good time” policy that “used sex to sell” the football program to recruits.
Former assistant coach Kendal Briles once told a Dallas area student athlete, “Do you like white women? Because we have a lot of them at Baylor and they love football players,” according to the suit.
Investigation by lawyers identified at least 52 “acts of rape,” including five gang rapes, by 31 football players from 2011 to 2014. At least two of the gang rapes were committed by 10 or more players at one time, the suit states.
ffs smh
Does anyone know if we are still recruiting TJ Green?
Judson is committing in around 30 minutes, has anyone heard if we have a realistic chance of getting him?
I am hearing we are not out of it for TJ, and we are still recruiting him. However, I don’t believe we are the favorites.
Judson commits to the Ducks.
I don’t like his personality so whatever to that one.
Agree on that.
If he gets the opportunity to play in the Civil War this year It will be fun to watch him get lit up by Aydon and Evans.
PREMADONNA
*Primadonna
Maybe he meant he was ancient, like pre-Madonna
That would just be B.C.
B.M. Just like her music.
I’m pretty sure mother Mary didn’t record.
Yes she did Jack. Peter, Paul, and Mary? Remember?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qu_rItLPTXc
I never realized she was their mother too.
Now I have a pretty good idea what Yeshua looked like.
This class looks like it was a hit and a lot of misses from a stars ranking perspective, but from height and weight per position, it appears if these players bulk up their muscle, they’ll be good.
ps. Lady Beavs tonight at 8pm vs Oregon.
At “the Bell.”. Taco Bell Court.
Christ that floor is ugly.
Angry. Your GF can’t hit the broadside of the barn.
Nobody can in this game.
The number of misses from 3-4 feet is astounding.
Beavs win
It was a lot closer than it should have been. Lowest score for the BWB all season by a lot.
Played like shit on the road and still won….hallmark of a very good team.
True, but the quacks really got them out of system. If Gabby had not had an out of body shooting experience last night they would have lost. It’s too bad that Sabrina I could not handle playing second fiddle for a year. She is going to be a pain in the ass for three more years. I hope they can stomp them in Gill.
Why do you assume Ionescu couldn’t play second fiddle? It’s more likely that negative recruiting backfired and drove her away.
This I was going to be SW’s team to run this year. By going to quackland, SI is the immediate starter at PG and by default the team leader because of her skill. Seems to be a viable reason. What is this negative recruiting you keep alluding to?
Seems there was something in there too about SI’s wanting to take her coach to Washington and that fell through. By then Rueck and staff were tired of the whole thing and backed off.
I wish I could make it to Gill on Sunday – I hope it is packed to the rafters with screaming fans. Let the ucks have their Knightville.
Don’t be dense. Why would VanDerveer hate Scotty? Just because he’s a good coach?
http://www.espn.com/ncw/news/story?page=Mag15unhealthyclimate
Maybe you’re new to this whole “women playing sports in college” thing? I was aware of it but never knew how bad it was until I was kicking a rowing coach out of my house while mentally actually wanting to be kicking that person.
OT: Will this have the same outcome as the UNC academic scandal?
http://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/five-kansas-players-interviewed-as-witnesses-after-alleged-rape-in-basketball-dorm/
“Why would VanDerveer hate Scotty? Just because he’s a good coach?” Sorry to be so thick, but are you saying Scott discourages prospects from going to Stanford because Vandeveer is, by all accounts, gay?
20 days until the season opener in Surprise…………………..
“This time around, the eighth-ranked Beavers, who open the season Feb. 17 against Duke in Surprise, Arizona, aren’t planning to leave their fate in hands of the committee.
OSU returns a slew of pitchers and position players fueled by last year’s snub. A trip to the College World Series is the expectation.”
Talk is cheap, guys.
http://www.gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/baseball/osu-baseball-motivated-by-snub-beavers-aim-for-omaha/article_14f4b4f4-5cad-52c4-9c4b-eefcf23f5cb8.html
Green is a Ute.
Not sure why but this kid ditching us really pisses me off. Fitting he goes to Utah. Fuck him and fuck Utah
Coaches have to pissed also. The early verbals that switch so late suck. Hopefully the Texas kid is good.
I do really like Tyler and it’s not as if we desperately needed a running back in this class but yeah for us to be the first (by a mile) to believe in his ability and then have him just leave once he gets notoriety is a bullshit move. Zero loyalty
Should add that the delusional Beav fan in me thinks these recruits know how good Tyler is and don’t think they could beat him to the top of the depth chart
Seemed pretty disrespectful that his little memo today about committing to Utah didn’t mention any thank you to the OSU staff.
I wonder if Andersen will stop thinking of Wittingham as a friend?
And cotton will be a buff.
Have a good weekend. I’m staying offline
For real? Or are you just riding the negativity wave?
Angry’s opening sentence is looking prophetic.
Green is old news…it was over when he decommitted. No one ever recommits. At least he didn’t go to Oregon…
Could end up being one of the worst classes we have had in a while, the way Gary closed was extrodinaraly awful, this class will have consequences.
Class looks solid overall. You can win championships with good 3*s with chips on their shoulders.
Also I’d say our December signing haul was superb. Every one of those guys is a potential starter next year.
Could end up being one of the dumbest posts I’ve read in a while.
Just some thoughts on our RB misses in this class…Most High School kids are delusional and think they are ready to come in and compete for a starting job right away. This simply is not the case as their bodies, the speed of the game and the complexity of the schemes are so beyond what they experienced High School. Of course there are always exceptions, but by in large they just aren’t ready to be major contributors. RB’s who have been very successful in High School are often times the worst at understanding this. They are used to being “The Man” in high school and think it should be the same right away in college. While I am sure many factors weighed into Green, Judson and the kids we lost to Mizzou, they all think they will come in and be major contributors right away. The reality is, if Nall and AP stay healthy, there aren’t going to be many reps for our third back at OSU next season and most likely the following one. I think this was a major realization for Green in particular. I don’t think he is going to start at Utah either, but I am sure they told him he had a “very good chance” of doing so.
I am a bit concerned about our RB depth, but if we can get another serviceable guy in this class (maybe BJ Baylor) we should have some decent depth and the opportunity to bring in a stud next year. I also wouldn’t be surprised if OSU is considering adding Ah-Hoy to the backfield mix. Personally, I like him as a Safety. Dude is already bigger and stronger than most of the other safetjes we have committed or considering (Watson, Cotton, Gardner).
I would add that I am more disappointed in our lack of quality O-line recruits than our RB’s. If we didn’t have Nall and AP I would be more concerned.
Cheers and Go Beavs!
Agree with this. A lot of these kids feel there too good to redshirt and expect to be at min 3 year starters.
Going to be difficult to crack the 2 deep for at least 2 years, and we probably won’t need a all purpose starter for 3.
Probably could say the same thing about the Jc db’s: have a freshman all American on one side and several freshman/sophs who were injured but show promise.
A lot of these teams were losing recruits to (Utah, Colorado, Nebraska) were very senior heavy. We’re so young and showing promise that maybe they’re heading to places with less proven competition.
That’s were you have to love statements like the one made by Tyler: I don’t fear competition. I’m just different that way. Need football players not kids who need to be coddled.
Agreed on all points.
RB is a really hard position to gauge from HS to college. There are a lot of kids who are there because they’re the first to mature and are able to take advantage of that playing against a bunch of kids.
The RB on my 6th grade team was a LB on my HS team and went on to play DE at higher levels. The starting RB on that HS team played some RB in college before becoming a DB. The back-up QB/RB went on to play RB in the NFL.
Possibly the main reason I don’t like Judson is because the kid is already full grown relative to his peers. He looks like he’s been shaving since he was 12. He’s also a year older than his peers. All that says he doesn’t have much upside. Don’t get me wrong. What he has is good. It’s just not going to get better as he faces more uniform and higher skilled groups of opponents.
Just a little info on our new RB’s schools as posted by MaxPreps:
Calvin Tyler – Silsbee High 2861 Rushing Yards on 246 carries with 29 TD’s, 1 Receving TD
6-5 Record
Class 4A-1 (Largest Schools are 6A)
Ranked the 193rd best team overall in Texas by MaxPreps
BJ Baylor – Wharton High 1997 rushing yards on 204 carries with 24 TD’s, 4 Receiving TD’s
8-45 Record
Class 4A-2
Ranked 301st best team overall in Texas by MaxPreps
How many HS teams are in Texas? 193 and 301 seem like awful teams.
I like Tyler. I’m not that high on Baylor. I feel like he’s a desperation play because they wanted 2 backs. He looks small and no one skill stands out. Seems to be a good pass catcher for a RB. Maybe a scatback type. I don’t know that we need that. Green wasn’t a well-rounded back either, but at least he had game changing speed.
Should read “8-5 record” for Wharton.
