The Beavs landed a former Wisconsin 3 star safety today:

Seems like a mature guy who could be a leader and maybe a contributor. Florida and Wisconsin pedigree is nice. Apparently he had an offer from Georgia as a prep.

Gary Andersen will be on the radio at 12:15 and 2:30 today to discuss spring ball.

Go Beavs.

    • Instead they talked about the blazers hosting their own interview yesterday and how annoying it is to have teams host their own “exclusive” canned interviews, as if they’re organic.

Here’s an idea, have Gary Andersen on live instead, and host an actual interview.

      • yep. Ever since Andersen arrived it’s been an important event. Be sure to stick around afterwards because the coach drives through the parking lot an hour after scrimmage ends thanking everyone for turning out.

  1. I am officially number 1, since Angry is ineligible. Yea Me!!

Just home after almost two months in Costa Rica. We went to a beach area called Nosura, surfing, yoga kinda of a “hippie” vibe, with sketchy internet connection. The driver, that took us there, actually drove through a shallow stream in his van to get us there.

Missed a few pieces of Americana…. the inauguration (thank God), signing-day and what looks to be a forgettable basketball season. JB

    • PBH: Is that Nosura as in Nosara Beach (Playa Guiones)? Were you in one of the Jungle locations or someplace else like Surf Bikini Retreat? :-)

Almost 2 months? Glad to see you didn’t fritter away your OSU salary and are now putting it to good use. :-)

Seriously, I’m asking because my wife is giving me hints that she’d like to go on vacation. It’s either that or maybe those suitcases sitting by the door are there for me to use…. Hummmm

      • Hi MS….It’s the same place. There are a number of “surf schools.” We know the people at Safari Surf School. they will allow us to drop by and take a lesson now and then.

I think the Bikini school is limited to women only. So you might ask your wife if you’re included in the itinerary. Most of the surf schools include room and board for the duration. The quality of both is, more or less, reflected in the total price.

We have friends that own home there, so stayed at their place. They live in the Bay area and were only with us for about a week.

If you go, try and see a little more of the country. A few nights in Tamarindo is a good place to start. JB

        • “I think the Bikini school is limited to women only.”

Sounds like a school I would like to take some graduate level courses at. Any lawyers willing sue them to allow me access. I’m all about civil rights; the Rosa Parks of beach wear.

    • Dang, I missed it.
I think that is seriously cool that he is willing to take live phone calls from fans on the radio. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a coach doing that.
He just earned additional points in my book.
      Anybody have the link?

  2. The OSU women’s rowing scandal is a big deal. I’ve heard a bit about in in the past few days from people close to the program. I can’t believe the media is not picking up on it yet. It absolutely needs to be out there. It’s VERY similar to the Bob Ernst situation up at UW, which became a national scandal.
The coaches were under investigation for awhile and the team has not had any coaches at all since January 20. OSU has hired an interim coach who won’t be here for another couple of weeks. The season starts right after.
From what is known, the head coach, Emily Ford, was under investigation and her contract was terminated early, without cause. Apparently a group of athlete’s had complaints and were meeting in secret without consulting the coaching staff. Further, OSU did not attempt to meet with Ford or the other coaches or try and provide mediation.

    • “Apparently a group of athlete’s had complaints and were meeting in secret without consulting the coaching staff.”

What does this mean? We’re they forbidden from talking to each other by the coaching staff? If so, that seems counter productive for a team sport. #donttalkewhilerowingtheboat

  3. As mentioned previously, Austin Hudson will grad transfer to OSU. I’m a little blown away by this kid’s story as told by him. Same story as linked previously.
    http://www.oregonlive.com/recruiting/index.ssf/2017/02/austin_hudson_former_gary_ande.html

What’s his graduate study that USF is cutting and is somewhat exclusive at OSU? And if he finishes that degree in a year, will he move on again?

He sounds like a perfect fit for a ST leader and part time secondary work.

  4. It looks like the five mentioned are the IF. I suspect Cary and Nobach are likely in the OF. Although, if there are two or more incoming or displaced from the IF who are challenging those two, they will upset any certain line-ups.

        • It takes time to make a diamond. Riley was always about diamonds in the rough.

““I’m always interested in change,” Riley said. “I don’t like to go through it necessarily. The process is hard, but you have to be fair to the whole university and the whole program. You’ve got to put yourself through that process — and personally, be very blunt about it, what we need to do.

“I’m energized and excited by our team and want to push in any way to be better.”

What a line of bullshit. Apparently he didn’t like to to go through it necessarily at OSU. Easier to get spanked by your rival 7 straight years and provide DII schools their first victory over a DI program…but hey, he was being fair to the whole university and the whole program.

“Pushing in anyway” includes firing your 20-year D coordinator by phone….that’s not bold change, that’s a cowardly way to respond to pressure.

  5. Eggers with an in-depth look at Wiese. Enjoyed her comments about why she committed to OSU amongst other offers and after her first and only official visit. Speaks to the importance of vision (Rueck’s), and also the unique player like her who doesn’t just want to be part of a successful program, but to contribute to building one. I am not saying the latter is better than the former, but I do personally think its a more interesting approach:

“”I was going to take (the maximum) five official visits,” she said. “That’s what my club coach told me to do.”

Wiese took her first visit — to Corvallis — and decided it was the only visit she would take, committing to the Beavers.

“I knew this was where I wanted to go,” she says. “It was a gut feeling. The people I was interacting with — not just on the team, but people in the community — convinced me. They said, ‘You’ll love it here. We bleed orange and black, and it’s such a family atmosphere,’ which is what I wanted to be a part of.”

Rueck was in his third season at Oregon State, the Beavers on their way to a 10-21 season. They had not yet made the NCAA Tournament under Rueck.

“I was drawn to the underdog role,” Wiese says. “I wanted to help build a legacy in a place that maybe couldn’t have dreamed of before. I wanted to be surrounded by people you want to work hard for — that was the coaching staff and my teammates. I believed in Coach Rueck’s vision. Everyone who committed here my year did. We all made it happen.” ”

    • Very nice story. She and Gabby are very unique players that will be very hard to replace.
Hopefully they can make it a three-peat for the conf. title.

  6. Tickets to the game because friends are out of town. $0.00
Deschutes Jubale on Nitro a block away from the Barn $7.00 (That is good shit Maynard.)
Beating Indiana on a put back with 2.9 seconds to go. Priceless
Trying to keep the faith with Tinkle. Really needs to get a W against the Buffs to keep hope alive.
BTW, Tom Crean ,aka coach clappy, is nuts. The family dinners with Jimmy Harbough must be akin to ones in a mental hospital.
