This noise gate on the radio broadcast is so annoying. I’d much rather hear ambient noise.
NOT first bitches!
Fuck you Mike Riley! Fuck Nebby and tOSU. Go Beavs with balls and sticks.
This announcer is a complete train wreck.
I’ve tried to cut him some slack in the past, thinking that he had no help. This year he has a pretty knowledgeable guy along side.
Wait till the team returns to Corvallis, he will have Jim Wilson doing color on those games vs Hartford. In the past it has been fun to hear Wilson, very gently, try to educate him.
Yeah no clue how he has a job.
Has anyone been able to receive the Husker broadcast? Not working for me.
Kwan sac fly scores Zac Taylor- 3-0 Beavs in the 4th
Greiner single scores andersen
Larnach drives in greiner Beavers up 5-0 in the 4th
5-0 after another Larnach RBI. 11 hits thru 4.
Pat Casey continuing the recent tradition Riley started of sticking it to the Huskers
Good luck with the move. GoBeavs
Thanks, man.
Yeah, watch the weather and be safe.
Thanks, boss. If you guys don’t hear from me by Tuesday it means I died.
Also look for A@A celebration, another cue I’m dead.
Should be a pretty drive if they keep the roads clear.
Don’t die.
If you die, please start zombiebeavs for all the OSU fans who have passed
Angry, Where you moving to?
I think he said Fort Collins.
Kwan scores on wild pitch
Lol
https://twitter.com/PFF_College/status/966757242715373568
Completely overrated.
He’s gonna get drafted so high
I wonder what his rating was when kept unclean.
Saw Arizona MBB had their starting PG Allonzo Trier get suspended today by the NCAA for PED use.
Can the Beavs take advantage?
https://twitter.com/YahooForde/status/966816937379598336
Sure they can.
But they also run the risk of getting caught if they do.
My main concern is the pitching hasn’t shut-out anybody yet….Need to get that ERA below 0.5 ;)
Suppose Eubanks is pacing himself on the boards? 1 rebound so far at the 12:00 timeout 2nd half…
Tinkle has 5 reb, assists and TOs,
Ethan is having a great game.
Stacy and Kone can stay on the bench the rest of the season.
Ayton would look good in a Blazer uniform.
On cue the game tightens so the Beavs obviously are now fouling uncontrollably in the eyes of the refs.
Stevie with two wide open looks from the corner on back to back possessions…just one of them puts this game away. Ugh.
And the 16 footer at the end. Good grief, this should have been an upset in regulation.
Good set plays that should have been executed at 50%. They put themselves in a position to win, but they couldn’t pull the trigger. It’s better than I thought they were going to do after that scoreless stretch in the first half.
The last couple weekends have shown some actual spacing and schematics. I wonder why they didn’t have this at the beginning of the year.
The only coaching I really question is having someone with four fouls covering Alkins in OT.
And yes, the refs were jobbing us inside and by never calling the major ballets some of their bigs put on in the middle of a move. So many steps.
But this is an example of ignoring the noise and putting yourself in a position to win regardless. Road games should be the same, just more noise.
Yes, there were some glaring missed travel calls in the paint. Ayton in particular.
Why not call a time out before the list shoot?
Beavs had 2 pt lead for most of the final 2 minutes but choose to milk clock and have STJ shoot corner 3’s 2 staight posessions?
Then AZ ties it up and STJ clangs the game winning attempt.
Overtime. Rough final minutes for STJ. Not sure why it has to be all him in crunch time
STjr with another underwhelming night shooting the ball, only 4-15 and 2-8 from 3pt. I think ET got a 3 pt goal in the OT, but that was the only field goal in maybe the last 14 minutes of the game, including OT. Other than that, just points from the free throw line.
Hollins should have got the start, he’s earned it over the last 4 games. I wonder why Kone got the minutes ahead of him? Hollins may be a bit shorter than Berger, but I’d guess he can out jump him rebounding and is more athletic in almost every way. Don’t understand the decision on that one.
Arizona really locked down on OSU defensively in the OT, so you have to give them some credit for that. Plus, they had players that could hit big shots and OSU, well, not so much.
Hollins sprained his ankle in practice. He told the coaches his pain was 6 out of 10.
My pain in watching this team is 11 out of 10.
Overtime is brutal. Miss…miss…miss….game over
Tinkle is a poor end game strategist. He has cost the Beavs multiple games over his tenure by the 1-4 isolation with GP2 and now with Stevie. It kills any momentum. By now ST and TT shgould be able to run decent set plays for good looks without the iso nonsense.
End of game, 1 possession is different than a 4 minute strategy of iso plays and running down the shot clock. I don’t think it worked when you go o-fer the last 10 minutes of the game froim the field.
I was listening to WT on the radio and he was getting softballs from Parker as usual. Pointed to “maturity” as the reason why they can’t win on the road or finish games. WTF? You have two juniors and a redshirt sophomore who have played extensively since they arrived. What the fuck does maturity have to do with it? You’re right, they pull the ball out and lose all momentum every time they have the lead in the second half. It’s coaching, again the only time WT has had success is when he had CR recruit GP-2.
WTF with STJ jacking up all the critical shots at the of the game? Pissed away a win…..again.
He sucks at the line, so why wasn’t Lil Tinkle at least getting a touch. Poorly coached teams lose in crunch time. We see the opposite with the women’s team.
“Poorly coached teams lose in crunch time.”
Is Tinkle a poor coach? BleacherReport has him on the hot seat.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2760126-college-basketball-coaches-on-the-hot-seat-with-march-approaching
I liked the hire back originally, but watching these teams is dreadful. And outside of recruiting the kids of the coaching staff, I don’t see any impact being made on the recruiting trail. We need size and speed, and I just don’t see us getting either. Eubanks seems to have tuned WT out and I am not sure that either Thompson is a legit point guard.
Does WT have any more room to grow, or has he hit his ceiling?
I’ve become indifferent with Tinkle. I like the guy and think he’s a good face for the program, but he also appears to be over his head as a coach in this league. I also dont watch enough Beavs basketball to care anymore.
Sortof related, does anybody remember who the other candidatea were back when Tinkle was hired? I remember Stoudamire and Howland mentioned. Do we know who interviewed?
Reason I ask is because I seem to remember Terry Porter’s name coming up. Ive watched some Pilot’s basketball the last couple of seasons. They’ve been terrible under Porter. I’m glad he didnt end up here.
Was Musselman, who’s now doing well at Nevada, a candidate previously? Might he be one this next time around? I have a feeling he might be gone after this year as he’ll have them in the tourney.
Lamont Smith down at San Diego is a guy worth keeping an eye on. He’s an alum so it might be tough to get him out of there but he’s doing a solid job.
Yeah… I’m not a fan of the iso except to set up that open jumper. Even then, our best play was coming from inside, out all night. When we abandoned it, we went stagnant.
Maybe the Lady Beavs can teach the men’s team how to freaking shoot an outside shot. The 3 point shot from the baseline in the corner is one of the easiest shots to hit from anywhere on the court and we get 3-4 wide open looks towards the end of reg and OT and can’t hit crapola,,,,,UnFreakingBeaverable!
Report from Surprise.
Beavs spank the Huskers giving yours truly ammunition to give shit to my brother the Husker. Yes!
Great stadium.with typical over the top prices for concessions at pro venues.
Madrigals HR was a moon shoot over the Beavs bullpen and right to the seats we had been in at the start of the game.
Larnach made two amazing defensive plays that were the highlights of the game. First was a foul fly that he ran a mile to get and it did not look like he had a shot at. Makes a leg first slide and pops up with the ball. Even some Huskers applauded it. Neb RF had a couple of similar opportunities, but could not get to the balls. The second was in the last inning when he robbed what looked like a sure hit with a diving headfirst catch.
Luke seemed to have a pretty tight zone to pitch to. Was behind a lot of the batters, but made the pitches when needed. He seemed to work mutch slower than normal. Pissed at the zone and trying to keep calm? He was hitting 91 and up to 93 with his fastball. He threw a bunch of pitches.
Chamberlain was interesting. 85 on the gun consistently and up to 87-88 ca couple times. He chucked a wild one about three feet over AR’s head and some of his balls were not even close to the zone. Then he would paint the corners with full counts to get the K. He throws semi sidearm and does remind one of Gunderson back in the day.
Nick made a totally awesome defensive play look ho hum to end the game, going deep in the hole (that’s what she said) to his left to catch the ball and flip to second for the force. He is really something.
The top of the order is going to a nightmare for the opposition, particularly if Adley can protect Larnach. He nailed a ball to the gap for a nice triple his last time up.
Neb burned through six pitchers in the game. Kwan and Grenier look like they packed on some muscle. D and O look to be stellar, the season will come down to getting some quality starting pitching to follow up Luke.
Go Beavs!
Pretty surprised Washington and USC get busted for bball but the dicks don’t??
They don’t need to pay a kid $30-40k in cash to come play for them. Simply issue a new pair of “limited edition” Jordans each year and give them to the players as part of their athletic apparel. If they decide to go sell those shoes at $8k per pair on the secondary market, that’s on the player, if they ever get caught. Hell, it might even be boosters buying those shoes on tue secindary market. They get something of value in return for their “donation” to the program.

Ohio State has a player named Canzone — it must be Canzano’s long lost relatives that have Cahonees.
I haven’t been able to follow today’s game very closely, but sounds like Kevin Abel has been pretty good in relief. Came on in the 5th and has 9 Ks through tue 8th inning.
Tweedt had a pretty shaky outing. Beavs trail 6-4 with Greinier and Madrigal on 2nd and 1st after a single, wild pitch and hit by pitch hitting Madrigal’s elbow. Larnach up
Larnach walk the bases loaded. AR up next
Fly out to deep CF by Adley get one run in as runners advance to 2nd/3rd. Gretler hits but Madrigal tagged out at home.
2 out, runners on corners.
6-5 Ohio State.
Anderson up
Anderson RBI single ties it up.
Next hit bobbled by fielder to bring in another run, Beavs up 7-6 with 2 on.
Noback gets another hit.
8-6 Beavs now.
2 on 2 out
Kwan with a triple!
10-6 Beavs.
1 on 2 out
Not sure why Jack Anderson is batting 8th. He knows how to stretch out each at-bat — should be in the top of the order.
Beavs 8 – Ohio 6
Beavers come back big in the 8th to take a 10-6 with 6 six runs in the 8th top off by a 2 RBI triple by
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EnsUeR2MyI
Final out makes it a 6 run 8th inning for Beavs. 10-6 with 3 outs to go. With how well Abel is pitching, it’s looking pretty favorable for a Beavs win. Amazing 8th inning.
Spoke to soon as Abel gives up a 2 run HR.
10-8 Beavs. No outs
Oops, 1 out…
Two big errors by buckeyes, Beavs made them pay.
BALL GAME!! Beavs Win! Advance to 6-0!
Mulholland gets final 2 outs. Beavs win 10-8
If the Beavs FB team can score 10 pts against Ohio this fall, I’ll be impressed.

Surprise report.
Cold and windy at the park. Beavs play a sloppy game and get a win.
MVP was the Buckeyes’ 2nd baseman with two errors on routine ground balls.
Beavs had several miscues early in the game that cost them. tOSU starter was legit and other than a couple mistakes, pitched a nice game. Hit 96 a few times. The ump crew was PAC and the home plate guy was all over the place with the strike zone. Tweedt was not good and they were nailing his pitches. Normally he would have been pulled but it apppeared PC was seeing how he and later Abel handled adversity.
The bad news is that Madrigal hurt his left arm on a play at the plate and was not not moving it as he left the field with the trainer. I would guess he broke something.
Abel looks pretty good. 89-91 and has a big curve and a circle change.
Damn, radio guys didnt even mention the Madrigal injury, unless i just missed it. He was also hit by the pitch to get on base in the first place.
I did not hear the radio guys say anything either
Same here, didn’t hear a word.
BREAKING: Lundeberg tweets Casey says left wrist/hand injury during slide into plate in 8th inning. Out for rest of weekend. Nick now headed back to Corvallis.
Leave it to Beaver(gopher) to break the news before anybody in the media had any idea something was wrong. Flying home early doesnt sound good.
I sure hope you are wrong about the injury
You kick ass Goph, too bad it has to be a disappointing story for Nick and the Beavs. Now get over to Tucson and find out when Arizona is going to send douche bag Miller packing.
MADRIGAL UPDATE:
Bob Lundeberg of the GT, (with a nudge from NiceBeav due to a hint from BeaverGopher) has updated his game story to include the following:
http://www.gazettetimes.com/sports/beavers-sports/baseball/osu-baseball-beavers-claw-back-to-defeat-ohio-state/article_5b15e27f-32e4-5cc8-9cc7-4bfa75599ea3.html
Stick with AB and the GT; we don’t need no stinkin’ whoreogonian!
Also Kerry Eggers and The Portland Tribune. We really need to get away from the crapzano and moron Moran.
Yup, you might say, “Lundeberg (GT) for play-by-play and Eggers (Trib) for color.”
Of course as media picks up on this, nobody mentions beavergopher. I’m going to give him credit in replies to each of their tweets.

He should be gone tomorrow if the Arizona administration had any morals, caught on tape by the FBI, correct? I’ll be glad to see the whiny fucker out of basketball.
I want to see that asswipe go along with Izzo.
Altman can join them too….he always looks as though he’s constipated.
Who the fuck would down vote this? You like Sean Miller and the other cheating ass munch head coaches from “legacy” programs? At least Louisville had the balls to get Pitino out of there, Miller should be suspended immediately.
State your defense of Miller instead of the anonymous down vote!
Miller is gone, for sure, it will be interesting to see if he is on the sidelines in Eugene.
It will be interesting to see how fast the NCAA acts. Ayton should be suspended and ruled ineligible quickly. Team should not be eligible for post season either, but knowing the NCAA this will be dragged out and sanctions will not come until the off season.
FYI- some updates out there. Of course, Mark Emmert and the NCAA are passing the buck for now. Leaving it up to Arizona as to whether Miller coaches or Ayton plays, but the Arizona papers are calling for the end of Miller. Here’s one article, kind of odd the writer mentions BDC who was at Thursdays game.
http://tucson.com/sports/arizonawildcats/basketball/greg-hansen-sean-miller-cannot-be-allowed-to-coach-the/article_55cfad32-540d-5fca-b26e-9af3aacc6c5b.html
PBH.. here. First day as “usher” at Giant Stadium for exhibition game v Brewers. Real mellow atmosphere. Starters play a few innings, scrubs play few innings, pitching changes galore.
Players run wind sprints during the game in the outfield behind the outfielders… sort of different. When I say ‘wind sprints” remember these are baseball players so its really just sort of a fast jog.
I work until the first pitch then hit the seats set aside for volunteers with free grub and catch the game. Dodgers are here tomorrow might be a little more intense.
Good luck on the relo Angry that’s a big move… check in with us as you can.
This Arizona coach report is crazy, FBI wiretap? Shit… Have to believe this type of thing is wide spread, maybe not 6 figure payments, but seems a lot of the other schools discussed were under $10,000. Seems some version of extra benefits is happening virtually everywhere.
Makes you wonder how much we paid for the shaftenaar brothers? Over/under at $17.50 per.
I’m more worried about all the gift cards Joe Burton got for Local Boyz.
I’m still worried about Burton’s behind the back passes to the other team!
How about those limited edition Joe Burton blue sketchers??
Kendall Rogers’ stock is slipping with me. Not only does he speak of the LH situation without understanding the issues or facts, but now he throws out the possibility that Nick Madrigal could be out 4-6 weeks. Sure, that may happen, but what’s his source? He’s too busy cozying up to LSU to actually be at the Beavs game today.
As tweeted by KR:
@BeaverBaseball All-American Nick Madrigal had an X-ray tonight following a left hand injury. #Beavs team doctor will meet with him tomorrow. Fear is that he could miss 4-6 weeks. More tomorrow. #MLBDraft
Oh yeah, he gives no credit to BeaverGopher, AB , or Lundeberg for the story.
He’s part of the liberal media…
FWIW. I saw Nick M leave the hotel with his lower left arm in a huge splint/ temp cast device and overheard a mom of one of the players say “is that the same one he broke two years ago.”
So probably bad news. Luck O da Beavs on steroids.
Thanks. Factual reporting from beavergopher; as opposed to rank speculation by Kendall.
If KR has a source for his “…4-6 weeks ” remark, he should have named it! Otherwise, why not say “…season ending”? Even a remark about similar appearing injuries taking a specific time for recovery would have been more palatable.
He seems like an ass. I didn’t realize D-1 had become a pay site. It used to be my go to for all the national scores. Plus, I think Angry was conversing with him on Twitter (pointing out the errors of his ways) and KR agreed to do more research on Heimlich and then later just posted more click-bait crap.
Good riddance to that site if Roger”s brand of journalism is acceptable to them. I’ll get my scores elsewhere.
OT…….WBB
Steve Gress (of the GT) tweets, “The Oregon State women dropped three spots in the RPI to 41 after last night’s win at Arizona.”
I thought road wins counted for a lot in RPI? Guess AZ is so lowly ranked that even the road thing isn’t enough to counter. Anyway, the gals face “The Realtor” at her place Sunday at 1pm; game is listed as available on: PAC12 Network, PAC12 Oregon, PAC12 Ariz.
They didn’t win by enough points! Besides, gotta keep UCLA in the fold don’t you know?
Everything is political these days.
It’s a simple formula, cities with airports get priority. Why do we struggle with this so much?
Arizona #279 RPI maybe? Still it was a road win…
RealTime has ASU as an 8 pt. favorite in tomorrow’s game, and gives ASU a 60% chance of getting the win. ASU is 13-2 at home, OSU 6-4 in road games.
ASU lost to Oregon, and Sunday will be Senior Night for the ASU players. OSU will have a task ahead of them to come out with a win in this game.
OT: How’d this hire get past Riley?
FB Scoop says, “Oregon State: Montana State DFO Brittney Johnson will join the staff as assistant DFO, sources tell FootballScoop.”
NCAA and FBI investigation: If any teams have been linked to these allegations, players named, coaches named they shold be barred from the NCAA tournament this year. I don’t get how the talking heads of sports talk are turning it into a debate about paying athletes as if that will stop cheaters from cheating.
Pay for play is cheating and should always be cheating. Coaches, players, and agents all like to portray a gray area of financial need vs NCAA riches, but it doesn’t change the rule. If you try to cheat to win, you shouldn’t get to compete.
I hope it exposes the NCAA cesspool. A lot of high level coaches, players have made a Faustian deal in the hopes that they never have to pay up. That time appears to be coming soon.
I think there could be 25-30 top ranked teams that shouldn’t be allowed to compete in the tourney this year. It would be the asterisk year but no different than the steroid era of baseball. Get things corrected and punish the cheaters in order to move forward. Don’t placate the cheaters by shifting the argument to paying athletes as if that takes care of these issues.
The report that came out yesterday is all pretty minor stuff. An agent giving improper benefits to a handful of athletes, several of which were around only $1k or less. That could easily happen without teams knowing about it.
But, it also sounds like this was just a small piece of the whole case, and we’ll have more and more small reports like this, which will look much bigger in whole. Just think this is the beginning.
I think we’ll hear plenty more situations similar to Arizona’s as the weeks roll by.
Also, luck o the beavs that Miller was able to coach against us but will not coach against oregon tonight.
https://twitter.com/ghansen711/status/967491433228677120
Is Ayton entering the draft today?
Jay Bilas and ESPN are feigning shock and dismay at the Miller reports. My cynical side says that March Madness is going to drive the bus so that everybody still gets paid. It will be NCAA and conferences/ presidents, ADs, coaches all rallying against FBI to avoid any real changes.
Honest coaches who haven’t had guys doing shady stuff need to speak up now. The problem is it will be a pressure cooker for everyone in the profession to stay united and keep the lid on it. Do you think if any coach speaks out of turn and declares how things have been done, he will be outcast and no longer in the club? I’m sure there is plenty of frustration within those coaches and staffs that face the uphill challenge against these cheating programs.
I think the problem is the fraudulent system has created an Animal Farm reality where “All animals (insert schools) are equal, but some animals (insert schools) are more equal than others.” Some schools are allowed to cheat while others can’t even get a key recruit through the NCAA clearinghouse for 3 months!?! Remember Roberto Nelson?
NCAA has had selective enforcement for a long time, and now I hope the hypocrisy reveals itself in more than a slap on the wrist for the powers that be…
Yeah, Schmuck fans are indignant posting that if Miller shouldn’t be allowed to coach, then Ayton shouldn’t be allowed to play…..I think it’s just a matter of time that Nike will be involved in this on-going investigation. After all, it seems like Oregon overnight became a hot bed for high profile players and given Oregon has never been a mecca for men’s CB, it makes me wonder what moved the needled for them. I mean, they’ve attracted some pretty big names in the last few years and got them to come to Eugene instead of much higher profile and much better programs. We shall see but Schmuck fans might want to temper their indignity because those who live in glass houses…..just sayin’.
Oregon players have already been caught selling their team issued shoes in the past(ratted out by an OSU student no less.)
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/oregons-artis-carter-suspended-nine-games-for-selling-shoes/amp/
Heck, they even advertise their intent to sell shoes after their eligibility is up. This is pay to play happening right in fromt of everybody.
http://uomatters.com/2017/04/basketball-player-takes-ducks-to-final-4-cashes-in-by-selling-used-shoes.html
Right OOB… but that goes without saying.
Quack fans seem to conveniently forget that despite their head coach being completely accountable for the program, Altman is the master of the plausible denial. He apparently makes it a point to know nothing about the backgrounds of the players he recruits, so if something sordid comes up later, he can just say “I was not aware of that at the time”. He also has the makings of excellent comb-over potential, Lou Henson here he comes.
At the risk of setting off a “dormant Jack.” Duck fans need to keep quiet until all the charges in the FBI report aremade public. Sounds like Trump with “nothing to see here” as the guilty pleas and indictments roll in. JB
There are many reasons uck fans should keep quiet; chief among them is the things they say!
What they say is a good one.
I have to say I’ve never seen another fan base who was required to collect at least three variant track suits per person… by the age of 12.
Nothing says quality like when you’re standing in the middle of a bunch of plump people wearing poorly sewn polyester.
I know I was just telling my wife that “Luck O’ the Beavs” dictated that the scandal broke the day after the game. I was reading some Arizona newspaper stuff, it sounds like Miller may have know what was going on at some point Thursday? He gave a distracted, two minute presser after the game Thursday and skated out. The Arizona media were saying he’s usually pretty expansive in his post game comments.
Also, in the “you can’t make this up category”, there was apparently a mistake in Miller’s contract where if he’s fired for cause he would receive 5 million more if he’s just fired. WTF?
BASEBALL game today not expected to start till around 3:30. Delayed by prior MLB spring training use of the field.
Larnach with a two run shoot to center field 2-0 Beavers bottom of the 1st one out
John might be a nice guy and all but how can you have a play by play guy that can’t tell you if it is an error or a wild pitch. I’m not an expert either but I don’t call games for a living
Armstrong hits into a base full double play that score a run 3-0 Beavers
Kawn with a RBI single makes it 4-0 Beavers bottom of the 2nd
a dropped strike out and Grenier gets hit in the back with the ball as he goes down to 1st and Kawn scores from 1st 5-0 Beavers

Next weekend Jim Wilson will be in that spot.
Am I the only one who has this mental image of John and Hank in the broadcast booth?

Fehmel is have a nice game as he has three Ks an no hits so far in three innings
What is to be made of Casey sending Ober in to ph for Adley so early in the game? Some rest for Adley?? Disrespect for Nebby? or ??
With the lack of reporting like yesterday who knows maybe beavergopher will have to tell us
Heh, heh.
I’m thinking “hey its spring ball and a good time to get a look at as many guys as possible.”
per a Doug Tindall
“And his foot was stepped on in t3 last out talking”
About what happen to Rutschman
sort of sad we are getting more reports on injuries from Tweeter than from the Radio guys
“Tweeter and the Monkey Man”……….a study in Bob Dylan lyrics.
Traveling Wilburys
Is Tweeter still in the Boy Scouts?
Second time through, and Fehmel not nearly as effective.
Mid 4th, 5-1 good guys.
to the bottom of the 4th they go as Nebraska gets one back Beavers still lead it 5-1
So we just cut out of the baseball broadcast in favor of OSU basketball pregame? Wtf?
No warning on the radio broadcast, it just cut over
Then now we cut over to the Nebraska broadcast while Parker was in the middle of a story about Sean Miller. Who controls these broadcasts?
Jon Warren??????
Still being broadcast. Depends on how you access the broadcast. Can’t remember if you need to go with “TuneIn” or the “listen” button on the Beavs Baseball schedule page.
Also, supposedly being broadcast in PDX on 103.7fm
I’m listening to 103.7 in pdx. Still on the nebraska team broadcast. So strange
Sounds like Nebraska’s pitcher has some sort of injury after his last pitch and is being taken out. Nebraska radio crew sounds like they should be on suicide watch
Link to Nebraska radio crew?……..please
pardon me, missed your post above re: 103.7
Here’s the 103.7 Iheart link. Maybe it will work?
https://www.iheart.com/live/1037-the-legend-6704/
It works!
A respite from Warren, BLESS YOU!
These guys are serious Debbie Downers though. Pick your poison
Nebby pitcher injured; how’d ya like to come in in relief to face Larnach……with a full count!
bases full no out for the Beaver no out bottom of the 5th
Nobach with a sac fly 6-1 Beavers
2nd Beavers hit bay a pitch loads them up again with one out
a wild pitch scores another run 7-1 then Taylor goes down swing for out number two
yet another wild pitch and now it is 8-1. I guess that is one way to clear the bases one on 3rd two outs
Fehmel day is over as he goes 6 2/3 gives up 2 runs on 5 hits 1 walk and 3ks on comes Eisert
Eisert gives up a single then a wild pitch moves the runner to 3rd and other Nebraska single makes it 8-3 Beavers two outs in the top of the 7th
a K ends the inning
Beavers add two more in the 7th to make it 10-3 Beavers
Beavers with a double play to end top of the 8th
Beavers open up the 8th with two walks and a pass ball moved them to 2nd and 3rd for Larnach
he walks and the bases are loaded with no outs for Claunch
Claunch with an infield pop out, Noback strikes out then Gretler hits into a fielder’s choice to end the inning and the treat bases loaded and no outs and the Beavers can’t score one
On the other hand the Beavers do take a 10 to 3 lead into the 9th
Pearce in for Eisert. to try to end this thing
Pearce with a K to end the game as the Beavers win 10-3; bad news is Rutschman had to leave the game in the 3rd due to some sort of foot injury
MBB wins 79-75 after blowing a 15 point lead with about eight minutes left. Only thought I have is that Alfred Hollins looks like a superstar in the making if he’s handled right by the coaching staff. Six steals along with 14 points tonight.
Oregon State still has a shot at the NIT. Beating Arizona probably would have done it as with a sweep of AZ schools OSU would have as many Pac-12 wins as ASU right now. They need to win a Pac-12 tourney game at minimum to have much of a shot. Two and they are highly likely in.
Short of NIT this year I think OSU should consider the CBI this yeat as more experience for guys like Ethan and Hollins. Try to win it again if we fall short of NIT and put bookends on CBI Championships and then try to make tbis program a perennial NIT or better (Big Dance) program after that. If Arizona takes a step back there is room for OSU’s star to rise in the coming decade.
Agree with Hollins. He is the first legit D1 player besides a coaches son with any real instincts in game, and he is a fluid scorer. He gets to 14 points easier than anyone on the team. How he develops while playing alongside all 3 coaches sons will likely show how much chemistry there is and will determine how much they can accomplish next year. I think they have a real shot at the pac 12 championship if Hollins is in the starting lineup and healthy. Some may smirk but he is a legit option to score at any time as a spot up, driver, rebounder and fast break finisher, plus his defense is better than just about everyone else on the team.
Love your passion…. but not even close
“Oregon State still has a shot at the NIT.”
Love your enthusiasm but short of winning these last two games (on the road, mind you) and a deep run in the Pac-12 tournament the Beavs have ZERO chance at the NIT. Not with an RPI of 159 after tonight and a slew of bad losses.
It’s funny, I feel like we are in bizarro world with Beaver basketball coaches. Another underachieving season. Next year, barring injuries and any player stupid enough to officially opt for the NBA draft they should be a top six P-12 team, but if we go back to the CR era that’s what we said before his final season and they finished 16-16, lost to Radford in the CBI and Craig got shit-canned.
Does WT deserve the same fate next season if he can’t get the team to the tourney.? By that point, I don’t think it matters whether Tres leaves if his Dad gets fired. I say that Barnes has to take a stand on mediocrity, if Tinkle can’t get a veteran squad to win on the road and finish games he should be let go. Hard to believe it will be year five already next season
Time seems to move more smoothly when the stupids don’t take every chance to tell us all that our coach is Moochelle’s brother, making him related to something called a half-black.
Amazing how that works.
I don’t think my comment implied anything about a “smooth passage” of time. My point was that Beaver hoops is again with an under performing squad. How long does WT get? I think CR had six years. I’m good with five for WT and next season should be crucial and with a sense of urgency (less immature team comments)… I hope the administration sees it that way. I also have no idea what Michelle Obama has to do with my comment., but maybe you saw an opening to opine on a couple of idiot comments posted here from years ago?
I don’t know if CR’s team was that underperforming. JC was the only player he ever got who could take over at both ends. His last year was Berto and some role players.
This team, until the past couple weekends, was a scattered mess of Bertos. The floor is too tilted to one side for a couple of them. The introduction of Hollins may have a lot to do with the much better spacing and movement we’ve seen recently. But the set isos are killing me.
If you want to iso someone, high post them and play some inside out. The inside out is what works for us. It was what was opening up lanes and getting us quality shots. When we iso up top or just pass around the arc and jack up treys, we don’t do as well.
And it seemed like forever that CR was here. The first three years of his tenure, he was saddled with some bad players/people because of APR. Although, I did like Omari, a quality person and player.
That we’re only seven years removed from that third season means it’s too soon for someone on that roster to be out of jail.
It all becomes a blur, I think it has been 27 years since a team finished above .500 in conference play. You would think that would happen in a quarter century just by random luck.
This whole notion; experience, playing time, etc…. CBI blah….blah…blah. Verbatim from 2009 when Robinson took them to the third-rate CBI. Look how well all that worked out. They’re in the same place nine years later.
In 2009 Western Illinois sent maybe eight players and and an assistant coach to play in Corvallis. Some seniors opted out of “post-season” play and the head coach split. I think the CBI debacle ending up costing upwards of $40,000 as it’s a play to pay scheme. No thanks.
Sean Miller could buy us 4 tenths of a player with that cash!
Moran at the game tonight. Hard to not make a few suggestions to him.
Something subtle, like “fuck you in the ass with a claw hammer”?
Or like all of Gill chanting to please leave
Sideways
I don’t know if anyone was watching the ESPNU broadcast, but at one point the announcers were saying that Sean Miller had been fired. They retracted their comment a few minutes later and sort of blamed in on the “press here at the game”. My thought at the time…….that little asshole Moran, stirring up shit again! I guess he got bad intel on his Miller background check!
Early start vs Ohio St today. 8:00AM.
Similar lineup to yesterday with Taylor filling in for Adley and Armstrong for Madrigal.
Gambrel pitching.
FYI, Hank Hager who does the color commentary with Warren is a duck grad. Why do we have so many ducks as part of our broadcast team(Parker, Hager)
Because that’s what schmucks do is talk (school of journalism)….they can’t find jobs doing anything else.
Washington pitcher threw a no-hitter. Exciting even if it is the fuskies. May that pitcher lose his mojo when he faces us.
Perfect game actually. Little bit different ?
Damn smiley face didn’t work
Oops distracted by my 2 year old. I was thinking perfect game and had also read about the first no hitter for the season. Yes, a perfect game is very rare and pretty awesome no matter who it is getting there.
Damn kids. “daddy’s trying to post here!” lol
*perfect game
Madrigal has broken wrist. Out around 3-4 weeks
I broke a bone in my wrist during senior year of HS. 3-4 weeks seems like an awfully optimistic timeline, given how much he needs to use his wrist for pretty much every facet of the game.
I’m guessing he didn’t displace the bone
I would bet he is out six weeks. This is his draft year so he and the team should be uber cautious.I hope he can be back for the series at Mizzu State in mid April. Wife and I are going to drive down, weather permitting. When he broke his hand a couple years ago, didn’t he bunt everything for a few games when he came back?
Now that I think about it, I had 2 separate broken bones in HS. It was the fractured elbow that took longest to come back from. The wrist wasnt as bad. I had the 2 mixed up.
Did anybody go to Scott Barnes “Pretend to give a f*#k” Town Hall meeting today?
My son broke his wrist (soccer goalie at the time), he was back in 4 weeks exactly.
It depends on the bone in the wrist. I broke my scaphoid and they said it takes longer (about 12 weeks) because there’s less blood flow to that area.
Yup. Those can be bad.
Larnach single scores one to put the beavs up 1-0 in the b1
Kwan with a bases loaded single drives in 2, 3-0 good guys b2
Greiner follows that up with a 2 run double 5-0 Beavs
Gambrell with seven strikeouts through only 3 innings
Joining late, couple questions:
-is Hank Hager off today? Haven’t heard him
-any word on Adley?
Gambrell leaves up 6-0 after 7 innings. 5 h, 12 so, and most impressively, 0 BB. I can see Tweedt receiving another start but with Abel and Gambrell pitching well, he needs to step it up.
6-1 final, good guys win but leave 13 on base and defense a little off with 3 errors
#1 ranked Florida losing 2-0 in 8th inning.
Half of SEC baseball lost to sisters of the poor this weekend.
Ladies win at ASSU 64-60, will be the 3 seed in the Pac-12 tournament. Could finish in a 3-way tie for 2nd with Stanford and UCLA but would need Stanford to lose later today vs Cal for that to happen. Either way Stanford would win the tie breaker and they are the 2 seed.
Once again, the third quarter belongs to the Beavs; why does it take halftime adjustments to get their heads straight?
Turnovers: 10 in the first half, 5 in the second. Points off of TO’s: OSU 11 and ASU 17.
Say it again, we’re gonna miss Angry’s gal! But hopefully not for SEVERAL more games!
Attendance: 3258, about 50% Beavs according to Ron Callan
Gulich scores 36…..damn.
30 in the second half. That’s pretty good.
Only 2 misses all day, both in the first half.
Looks like OSU will play the winner of ASU/UA Friday evening. Always tough to beat a team 3 times in one season.
Looks like Gulich is really peaking at the right time. That plus some of the hot outside shooting OSU can bring, and they could be the team people want to avoid. From comments in here, it sounds like if they could better handle a press they’d really not have a glaring weakness for another team to exploit(?). Aren’t most of the TOs coming when they’re pressed?
I do agree beating a team three times seems to be difficult normally, but I think on a neutral court they can do it.
Marie’s improvement this year has been amazing; she is willing to take the mid-range jumper now and even has had occasional success dribbling when necessary. I think her leadership has been most impressive, just listen to some of the post game comments and watch her talk to her teammates.
The press gets to this team and, as Jack has pointed out here, it is difficult to understand (practice?) their hesitancy to pass out of the press and to allow themselves to be trapped in a corner or on the sideline.
The “hot outside shooting” is, I think, something to watch going forward. For the season the 3pt % has been 40.6 (38.7 in conf), for the last 4 games that number drops to 31.1%. A combination of the defenses faced? A cooling off of the hot hands?
I look for Tudor, McWilliams, or Goodman to shoot “lights out” in the next couple games. (a return to the mean, if you will) But, given the track record with TO’s, wonder how far this group can go. Nice that Rueck has built this program to the point where Sweet Sixteen seems just “acceptable”.
True that beating a team three times is difficult but ASU doesn’t have an answer for Heimlich….ASU is a good team but they don’t have the depth or talent osu has. Big concern is pivec continues to be sloppy handling the ball. She does other things well but is a liability on offense when playing the point. Beavs have got to clean up their turnovers. I’m heading up to key arena on Friday to watch the tourney….anyone else going up there?
Should have read gulich and not Heimlich.
It’s true though. ASU wouldn’t have an answer for a 3-game series vs Heimlich.
I live about 10 min north of Key/Queen Anne and should probably make the Friday game.
Van Gundy didn’t mince words regarding the NCAA
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/22579359/stan-van-gundy-shreds-ncaa-one-done-rule
All right, you degenerates, Angry is due back in less than 48 hours. Lets get a couple topics firmed up before then:
1) Does anyone have info on how, as NiceBeaver said, Scott Barnes’ “Pretend to give a f*#k” Town Hall meeting went??
2) What is the latest status of both Madrigal and Adley??
Madrigal broken wrist. Last I’ve heard.
This is the first thing I have to read. Luck o’ the Beavs.
Season isn’t over, but the chance for a magical season is.
4-6 weeks beginning of the season, not a world ending injury.
Cast, foam pad, a couple of Advil and he plays today. Opps.. forgot it was baseball could be weeks.
I’m not dead.
Dead tired and unpacking for a few days, though, so the elves are welcome to play while Santa is away.
You are now a true Californian………have left the state to go to another one in the west to screw it up.
Have fun with the snow and cold.
I know, they hate us everywhere, but I’ve lived other places so I’ll just say I’m from those.
The snow and cold are nothing, but the dry air is killing me and my guitars. Need to get a humidifier asap. I didn’t realize how dry it is here.
Every time I fly to Denver, I wake up with a headache from the dry air. Plays hell on wooden instruments.
Just bought a humidifier and also keep humidity packs in my guitar cases, so hopefully it’s not too late. Haven’t opened the cases yet as to let them acclimate, but I’m scared what I’ll find. Might see some finish checking from the cold…
I used to go to Denver/Colorado Springs on business for 10 years. I lived in Salt Lake at the time and if you like the Mountain West , I always thought SLC was much more picturesque with the mountains right on top of the city. In Denver, the mountains are about 50 miles away and on the east side it might as well be Kansas! I met a lot of great people in Colorado and there was lots to do. I think it’s probably a pretty nice place to live. The two snowiest months are October and March, I sure encountered some weird ass weather on my travels there.
Good to know. We did this on a bit of a whim because we (like everyone these days?) hate California. Weather is great, but the prices, people, and politics aren’t. I do miss the weather already. Well see how it goes. I never liked SLC. Went through a few times and all 2 liquor stores in town were serving wine only and closed at like 8. Maybe they were participants in the Gary Andersen sobriety program.
I had a layover in Denver one time and I was expecting Rocky mountain high and shit. Like you said, it looked like Nebraska, flat as a pancake as far as I could see.
That John Denver’s full of shit.
Nice Dumb and Dumber reference. Always loved that line.
Yeah, it’s dry and flat here. Weird. I’ve been through CO a lot on road trips and don’t remember it being dry and flat, but those were September trips each time.
You going to go to the Oregon State vs. Colorado game this fall Angry? Might be a Doozy of a game.
I don’t remember it ever raining when I was there, either snowing or dry as a bone. I liked the summers though, not too hot because of the elevation, but I don’t get the people who call it beautiful. Yeah, they joke about the airport being in Kansas.
Oh and Salt Lake really relaxed their liquor laws during the 2002 Olympics (phony bastards), but maybe it is strict again? I have not been back since ’07
Yeah I’m going to that game for sure.
McKalk, I was in SLC in 2009 and couldn’t find a drink other than at Gary Andersen’s house.
They probably got strict again with the “social clubs” were you have to pay a membership just to drink.
It’s flat until you go a little to the west. I thought you were in Ft Collins?
I’ve got a good Riley rant/analogy…hopefully soon, maybe a day or two as I settle in. I thought about it on the road because you know, I’m “obsessed with Riley” and had nothing better to do……….
Cant wait!!!!! Sure to be packed with facts!
Look at you… being all optimistic and shit.
That’s new.
Jack killed it there. ^
And this blog is about opinions (which usually do become facts in a few months time).
Kendall Rogers from the D1 chat today (no paywall):
Is he mistaken on TWO COUNTS here? Wasn’t Adley’s foot involved? Nowhere else have I seen any report of a 4-6 week timeline for Nick. In fact, Andy Jenkins on JBS just spoke, in passing, in terms of a couple weeks.
Rogers presents as fact what appears to be his opinion on Nicks timeline, an opinion which may turn out to be accurate…but still an opinion. Nice to see that today he phrases it as an opinion; wasn’t the case on the 23rd.
Rogers still hasn’t given BeaverGopher, AB, or even Bob Lundeberg any props for breaking the story.
On what kind of play was Rutsch hurt? It sounded to me like a collision, minor or major not specified. It also sounds like someone stepped on his foot and knocked his knee when colliding.
If that’s the case, think of it more like being in a car accident, where you feel the more serious things later because you were focused on the acute pain. Neck and back tweaks are common in those instances.
Final thoughts from Surprise .
Beyond the great hitting and several highlight catches, Larnach displayed a gun for an arm, with several great throws from the outfield.
Taylor looked good at 1st. He made a fantastic stab that saved two runs early in game two against Neb.
By pure chance, we ended up staying at the team hotel. The kids were great. Overheard a couple staff members commenting on what a well behaved group they were. Quiet in the common areas and very respectful of their surroundings. SUPER impressed by these young men. This is a first class program that all Beavers can be proud of.
Pearce, the little JC, came in and threw 91-92 with some moxie. Good contrast to the soft tossers coming out of the pen. He looked good.
Go Beavs!
Thanks so much for the updates and taking the time to provide them. Lots of good info shared and much more insight than what anyone has posted online or via Twitter.
Did I miss an update about anyone from the football team retiring? I saw on here a few weeks ago about Kesi Ah Hoy possibly medically retiring but he is on the 2018 roster. Thanks for any update.
Ah Hoy??
Arhhhh…
interesting… http://today.oregonstate.edu/news/oregon-state-sanctions-fan-who-used-taunts-during-women’s-basketball-game-0
This is the response to the accusations of fans using racists remarks at the Women’s Basketball game against USC few weeks back. In sort they did not find anything racist but they apologized for fans being mean.
So I wonder what the fan said that crossed the line if he/she didn’t say something racially motivated?
Directing taunts towards a specific player is off limits now?
Probably something about female parts.
Focusing on one player is a creepy thing to do. It was always off-limits. If the fan wants to be a part of the game, he needs to actually watch the game. As it is, it sounds like he’s overcompensating for something.
I’ve heard some really dumb things blurted out by people at hoops games the last couple years. I usually chalk it up to morons being drunk morons. I’ve not seen anyone harangue a single player, but if it happened it should be dealt with quickly. People who pay for seats don’t want to not go to games because of some dufus who’s had a couple too many… and the AD doesn’t want that either.
And what must the refs think when they hear the things they hear at every venue? I’m not going to claim we’re on the road to becoming BYU fans, but nipping it in the bud is the proper thing to do.
I just wonder why he wasn’t banned from all OSU events for a period, not just WBB.
Parker has to be at those events to do the broadcasts.
Personally I find a man taunting and talking shit to female athletes to be a total bitch move.
I’m all for equality and I’m sure the ladies are strong enough to deal with it just as men have to at every away game they play, but as a man it still rubs me the wrong way when other “men” are disrespectful to women.
I would add In general it’s appalling what some fans feel safe saying in crowds towards athletes these days. Sometimes I wish the players would actually go up into the stands “Not so tough with 6’7″ and 300lbs of muscle right in your face.”
*if it was a male.
If it was a female fan, still not cool.
Heh heh… go all Metta World Peace.
I also think in this “wrong” way about this. But I just don’t think it’s wrong. I have respect for my wife, mother, sister and daughters… not to mention the memories of the grands.
I can’t disrespect other women like that and two-face them. That would be a shit thing to do. I’ll bet the team heard him too. So if he was trying to impress any of them, this would be a major fail.
That video came across a feed the other day. That fight was nuts.
Stephen Jackson is lucky. He could have killed someone with the haymaker he threw.
Or collapsed his face Like Kermit Washington to Rudy tomjonavich (sp)
Give me an update on baseball. Have we lost yet, what’s the injury status, etc? Don’t have time to look it all up right now. Anything pertinent would be great.
8-0. Ranked #1 by College Baseball News, still #2 by the rest. Madrigal out upto 6 weeks depending on who you listen too. Haven’t heard about Adley’s return. Dinged up on a collision at 1b which is where he was at because a stiff back prevented him from being behind the plate. Larnach and Madrigal were tearing the hide off the ball and after starting the season 0-11 Kwan found his groove. Luke impressive in his second start. Tweedt needs to find his way or he won’t be a weekend starter. In the words of the Nebraska play by play guy, “Fehmel is a good pitcher but he’s no Heimlich”. Gambrell with 11 K in his last start and didn’t let a runner past 1b until the late innnings as I remember. Good start but for the Madrigal injury.
Thanks guys (you + oldbeav)
Stats link: http://osubeavers.com/documents/2018/2/25//0225_Overall.pdf?id=10167
Larnach with 1.111 slugging % and .556 BA
Luke WHIP is less than 1 (about .75) and opponents BA .146
Good recap by steveEbeaver above.
Gambrell looks to be ready for the rotation; this years team has shown more offense and a bit less pitching effectiveness than last year. Team BA=.365, ERA=3.12
Beavs have turned 11 DP’s and are 9/11 stolen bases.
Kwan is second on the team in RBI’s and has two triples, batting .391 if you throw out the 0 for 11 start mentioned by steveEbeaver
Abel, in 5.2 innings, has 11K’s, 2BB’s has given up 9 hits but looks to be about as good as expected.
If you haven’t already learned, the key injuries were first reported right here. Beavergopher was on the scene with Madrigal’s injury and only the nudging by Nicebeaver got Lundeberg from the GT involved in reporting it. The Adley injury was also, I believe, mentioned here first.
Casey has a regular press availability Tuesday morning, so injury news should be forthcoming.
Jon Warren contiued doing play by play in his own way with commentary by Hank Hagar of the AD; Jim Wilson will join Jon this weekend.
Friday start has now been changed to 4pm, apparently due to weather concerns.
In addition to Steve E and OOB’s reports, which I concur with, I can also report that the anti-Heimlich crusade in the media seems to have subsided, for the time being. I do believe that Martin Meyer’s essay on this site was the turning point as media members have been schooled (in the best sense of that word) on the nuances of juvenile rehabilitation and adjudication and posters on other blogs have tweeted links to Meyer’s essay or used snips of it for corrective purposes. Furthermore, Heimlich got the warmest rounds of applause upon introduction at the start of both games, his teammates are fully supportive, and kudos for Pat Casey for starting him in opener and poking a finger in the eye of Moran, Canzano, and Rogers.
Agree, I wonder when the clowns from the o will come out of the wood work, maybe right before regionals, super regionals, or maybe they will wait until Omaha when Heimlich is running onto the field.
It did sound like LH was getting a squeezed zone in his second start, at least according to the broadcast histrionics of Parker-lite. I’ll be curious to see if he gets an unusually small zone this season.
Conspiracy!
Two new staffers for football.

NEW POLICY
Here is a link to OSU’s new “Clear Bag Policy” which will apply to all ticketed athletic events beginning with baseball games in Spring 2018.
Seat cushions with pockets, purses, diaper bags, and binocular/camera cases are among the prohibited items.
Read the whole thing for yourself. I don’t want any of you desperadoes to meet Lt. Cord Wood on a professional basis!!
http://osubeavers.com/sports/2018/2/15/clear-bag-policy.aspx
Any idea if this policy is more widespread or just an OSU thing?
The first few years of them implementing this, it’s going to be a clusterf*ck getting into games.
Definitely makes it more difficult for parents with kids to attend a game. Most people will just say it’s not worth the trouble and stop coming all together.
From the link:
“The majority of PAC-12 schools and a number of other college facilities have adopted a clear bag policy for a majority of their events. Clear bags are an additional security measure that the Oregon State Athletic Department is implementing to improve fan safety and provide our fans a more consistent and efficient entry process.”
italics are mine; lots of wiggle room there. We’ll see how things go when pockets in clothing are now more likely to be filled.
Thanks, I dont necessarily think it’s a bad idea. I just am not looking forward to the inevitably slow entrance due to unprepared fans raising a stink at the gate.
Fans/terrorists will now hide their alcohol/weapons within a puffy jacket, unless they start adding metal detectors too.
Wet weather games will now be a pain in the ass; I take my son to a lot of games and due to not knowing how the weather will turn I take wet weather gear for the both of us and packet it all in a backpack for easy storage. This whole idea of easy accuses is dumb and frankly just an excuse. I always show up early and never have a problem getting in. Heck, most of the time I’m first in line and I have my bag ready to be check before the gates even open. This new policy is just dumb and I think Nicebeaver is right it might not be worth going to games anymore.
Fairly common amongst other sports as I know it’s policy for the Sounders, Seahawks, and UW.
Wondered the same thing, in spite of what it said in the article.
Quick Google search reveals that the NFL, SEC, and (now) 10 of 12 Pac-12 schools (minus WSU and UO) have clear bag policies in place already.
I would hope that OSU will be giving out clear plastic bags for the first couple of weeks to try and minimize the shock of this with pissed off fans… It would be salt in the wound if instead of giving them away, they were selling them at the door.
Diaper bags prohibited? I guess that’s one way to run Riley out of the stadium.
Speaking from experience, bringing a kid that requires a diaper bag is a bad idea. It never ends well.
and the over 70 pro Riley crowd
Huskers have this policy and it made it really quick and easy to get in without any lines at all. They have had this policy in place for quite a few years now and they seemed to gripe at first until there was no lines.
@angry. I was at the surprise tournament. Other observations. New arms.
Abel will be a stud. 91 mph with a big over the top curve. I would expect him to be #3 or 4 pitcher by the middle of the year.
Chamberlain pitched and made some great pitches with full counts. Tough little battler from the L side.
The JC kid, Pearce, threw 91-92 with some swag. He was impressive.
Tweedt had a rough outing. Ohio State teed off on him.
Luke was hitting 93 and looked great. They did seem to squeeze his zone.

I found this interesting.
Brainstorming?
Is this a common occurrence?
That’s cool, and makes a lot of sense. Why not work with teams outside your conference to try to take down the juggernauts? It’s exactly the kind of outside-the-box thinking we need around here.
A lot to like about Tibesar, his background and his organized approach have been impressive so far.
I bet they put a hurtin’ on the China Buffet.
Moran has a recap of the Scott Barnes PTGAF Town Hall meeting from the weekend. I won’t link the article directly, but this is what he had to report:
looks like i copied in some captions from images embedded within the article. they’ll stand out. just ignore them.
Adidas, More Money, Take down the VTV banner, and West side. Those 4 things is all we really needed to hear….meaning it was pointless.
“The lone pre-submitted question …..”
Hard to believe there was only ONE question submitted ahead of time. Gotta wonder if there were some uncomfortable ones which simply were not addressed.
or Moron forgot to write down the other questions and answers verbatim? AKA left out some facts.
Would have preferred Barnes to say something like, “Nike has been a great asset to our marketing and rebranding efforts, but we are willing to hear from other entities to get the best option for our student athletes in performance. Nike is well saturated in within the Collegiate Universities, but we are willing to hear from Adidas and Under Armour as well for their services.” Instead, we got a short, “Status quo on mediocrity, goofy, “Really, we’re rolling with those uniforms?”, and my personal favorite, “Phil Knight did help our baseball team, so why can’t they help our other sports?” Let’s think about this last one for a sec….that was 20+ years ago that occurred!
With only a year to go on the current deal with Nike, wouldn’t the better negotiating stance be to, at least, aggressively leave options open as you state?
Has Barnes ever shown himself to be a decent negotiator?……………well, maybe in getting his own deal with OSU. Seems he is paid pretty well and isn’t held to any standard of performance. No problem, plenty of money available……
The Nike deal was extended another 11 years.
Moran would have known this had he simply run a routine background check… or maybe a google search.
Um….I think if you’re on campus or know somebody who is you should be aware this threat is out there on twitter.

You go to his twitter?
Says he’s going to be the next Kip Kinkle. The next Nick Cruz. Says he’s going to kill people in the apartment above him.
Gives his apartment address and dares people to try to stop him.
Seems like it needs to be reported asap.
School says they’re aware of it now

and FBI is involved now. What a whack job, even if he didn’t intend to act on any of it.

…and Kammy Delp witnessed his arrest. Twitter has been very entertaining today.

*Formerly* the Best College Town in the Pac-12
That’s the ugliest food science major I’ve ever seen.
Usually they were cute girls. Perhaps he got blown off one to many times by said cute girls.
“Pat Casey did not have an update on Nick Madrigal but confirmed he will be out this weekend. Adley Rutschman (leg bruise) expects to start Friday ”
Also: “Casey said that he expects to have an update on Madrigal this weekend. The coach also confirmed that it is a left wrist issue.”
As tweeted just now by Lundeberg.
Per Kendall Rogers:
“INJURY NEWS: @BeaverBaseball All-American Nick Madrigal, as I suspected, will miss 4-6 weeks with a broken left wrist. Hopefully, he will be back sooner rather than later. #MLBDraft #GoBeavs”
Wonder who confirmed this for him?
More from Kendall Rogers (via twitter):
“C Adley Rutschman remains day to day with a little back soreness. Nothing major for Adley, but #Beavs will be extra careful with their prized sophomore backstop.”
But, from Lundeberg, “Rutschman suffered a bruise between the tibia and fibula and sat out Sunday’s finale in Arizona. He expects to be back in the lineup Friday.”
“I don’t really know how to describe (the bruise), but the bottom line is we’re going to be fine and I am good-to-go,” Rutschman said. “I completely expect to be out there with the guys and I would be very disappointed if I wasn’t.”
Lundeberg does report that Adley had some back/shoulder soreness, but that wasn’t the reason to sit out Sunday.
Back soreness? Bruised leg? …Who do you believe?….umm, maybe Adley himself?

@angry, when did Corvallis open a restaurant in your honor??
http://www.angrybeaversportsgrill.com/
A few months ago. Rumor has it they’re opening a sister restaurant called the angry@angrysportsgrill
It’s more like a daddy restaurant
Hmmm… I wonder how Corvallis would respond to a strip club, as you propose.
One out on 34 in the industrial area would make a killing.
Question- Am I still “blessed” even though I didn’t get a scholarship offer from OSU?
Probably not.
Have you sneezed recently?
Yes. You’d be “cursed” if you did.
“praying hands emoji”
If you look closer, it’s actually a “High Five”.
Gulich All-Pac 12 for the second time and also named to Pac Defensive Team:
http://osubeavers.com/news/2018/2/26/womens-basketball-gulich-named-to-all-pac-12-team-for-second-straight-year.aspx
Somebody here asked the other day about medical retirements. I talked to someone close to the team who confirmed for me that Kesi and Shemiah Whitson are both retired.
That was I. Thanks for the update but what a bummer. I saw Kesi on the roster for 2018 so I had my hopes up.
Damn luck o da Beavs… Kesi looked like a superstar in the making
In a poorly written argument, and one that references the departure of Ryan “Hall,” Sports Illustrated “writer” Chris Johnson make a “case” why OSU could be bowl bound next year:
“This is an irrationally optimistic gamble on a coaching change and a navigable early stretch of league play elevating the Beavers into one of the nation’s biggest surprises by midseason.”
https://www.si.com/college-football/2018/02/22/oregon-state-baylor-tulsa-bowl-eligibility
And just like that, the curse of SI strikes again.
Meaning we’ll go 0-12 this year?
No, we’ll beat tOSU then go on an 11 game losing streak.
That would be awesome.
We could break that pesky win streak against FCS schools and get Urban fired in the same move.

Eggers up with an interview (or good notes from a press conference) with Casey. Worth reading, and a reminder of Casey’s realistic assessment (and motivational take) on where the team now stands.
Casey, ” I know they feel the way I feel. We can’t win in the Pac-12 playing like we did.”
http://portlandtribune.com/pt/12-sports/388132-278648-beavers-prep-for-home-opener-and-for-weeks-without-star-madrigal
man, now that I step back and think about the games over the last 2 weekends and I agree with Casey in that they played average ball against young clubs and 1 experienced pitcher(tOSU). They will get better and they will keep grinding.
I wonder if this will go anywhere.

Doubtful.
Just an FYI but first pitch for Friday’s baseball home opener has been moved up to 4:05pm
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State baseball team has moved its 2018 home opener Friday versus Hartford at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field to 4:05 p.m. PT due to expected low temperatures that night.

Man all this “pay for play” news coming out right now makes me realize why we suck in football and basketball… we aren’t offering any money to these kids under the table (or at least not enough). Hey Angry, once you’ve earned enough money on the donate button to pay for the site maybe we can donate to buy better players? :)
OT but why doesn’t Corvallis have its own minor league hockey team? I feel like people would embrace hockey here pretty well. Plus, if there’s a small arena, it can be used for indoor track, which no university in Oregon has access to at the moment.
What league are you thinking?
I don’t see why not the AHL. Several franchises are located in cities with populations <50,000; granted, these are towns in the northeast where hockey is most popular, but there isn’t any minor league teams in Oregon or Washington which I find odd. Attracting a decent sized fan base shouldn’t be much of a problem, being located in the heart of the valley between several large cities and universities.
Have you not heard of the Winterhawks? Spokane Chiefs ? Seattle Thunderbirds? Tri-Cities?
AHL teams are affiliated with a NHL club which is why there aren’t any in the PNW. there’s opportunity now that Seattle is getting a franchise. More likely to get a juniors team than AHL if at all.
Who wants to join me in congratulating the amazing award winning writers at the Oregonian? All the of the articles I have read by them are outstanding. So much so, I now never read them and look for reliable information elsewhere.
I think we should organize an “applause” minute where we all stand at the same time (at work, in the shower, etc) and clap for these guys for 60 straight seconds.
Today I received an email from them asking for me to subscribe — they must be losing a lot of customers lately. Haven’t seen that kind of fishing from them before.
I will take different approach. I’m in the bathroom, I’m going to take an Oregonian, wipe Moran, and then flush the last remaining nugget, john crapzano. You can stand and clap now but don’t wait for my encore.
As un-delighted as I am with the Parker and Warren presentations, I appreciate whomever it is that arranges for baseball and the 2 basketball teams to have radio coverage wherever they go. I thought I would tune into the Cal/Washington wbb game on radio and no play by play at either school.
It’s going to be run by the conference for the Tourney. You might want to check into who does provide a radio play-by-play before tomorrow if that’s your primary source.
New thread?

New thread up. Just a quickie. Hope to be able to sit down and write over the weekend.
I’ll leave this here because I just don’t really know what it is. Is this the Utah Statehouse’s way of saying they’re supportive of abortions?
