  1. I was wondering why this thread was so empty, but then I read:
“Feel free to discuss … Scott Barnes talents”

    That explains it. *crickets*

    • Luke goes 7 full, 11 K’s. All three hits he gave up came with 2 down in the 2nd and accounted for the Cougs 2 runs. 104 total pitches.

Beavs leave only 3 on base, partly a result of hitting in to 4 DP’s………and a result of bringing ’em home!

Kwan, Madrigal, Adley each with 3 hits into the b8.
      16-2 Beavs

  2. Final: 17-3.
Nearest thing to a laffer prior to tonight was also in the State of Washington; Beavs 16- leg humpers 1 on March 24th.

Parker claims the Cougs have better arms lined up for the balance of the series.

        • All good. Beavs kicked ass this evening. Think we all agree on that. This series needs to be a sweep if they’re gonna catch or pass UCLA and Stanford.

IDK about you but I would not leave hosting a regional/super regional to chance and in the hands of the committee by not winning the conference. Right now that Utah series loss and blowing that last game in Tucson hurt. They win 2 of those 3 and they’re tied for first place.

          • Absolutely! We’ve seen what can happen when committees make decisions. UCLA may be in the process of stumbling on their own but it looks like the Beavs will have to sweep, not only this series with WSU, but the one at Goss vs Tree.

HEY ANGRY.…….Any chance you can get that guy from Go Mighty Card to share thoughts on their team and the matchup with Beavs?

  3. OSU press release on the alleged football recruiting gaffe…………

Oregon State issued a statement later Friday and said it is investigating the matter. Under NCAA rules, coaches and programs can’t actively recruit players who already have signed a letter of intent with another school.

“Oregon State Athletics and head coach Jonathan Smith became aware of unintentional mailings directed at a University of Hawai’i student-athlete this morning,” the school said in its statement. “We are committed to following NCAA rules and are looking into this matter fully.”

I found zero mention of this on the OSU football or Beaver athletics twitter pages. Oregon State can’t even cheat right (of that is in fact the case). Comical incompetence. No wonder we are “little brother”.

    http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/23407070/nick-rolovich-hawaii-rips-oregon-state-sending-players-recruiting-materials

    • We’re not little brother. We will never be little brother. Our younger sister school to the south will never be older, more prestigious or valid in the sciences.

I shouldn’t say never, but their sneakers say it’s the truth.

However, I am willing to admit there are losers in the OSU fold who just like to quit. This kind of pathetic ethos will surely lead others to think they are far superior to any sentient being who pretends to have an ethos, That will lead to arguments about who knows what an ethos is (in my dreams) and life will roll on all unicorney and rainbowey.

    • Speaking of incompetence……………………

My statement had ZERO to do with academics and EVERYTHING to do with athletics. Not surprising that went completely over your head.

      • Yes… the unimportant went over my head… as Ducks would also point out when they try to create this weird narrative begun by a tweaker they kicked to the curb when they were done with him.

I’m sitting here watching Faux News before I hit the road, and I see nothing but innuendo posing as news. Quick googles of everything they’re flabbergasted (pretty much shocked to find there’s gambling at this establishment) about tells me they’re lying about just about everything they’re “reporting.”

What the fuck is this channel? I’ve heard MSNBC is as bad i the other direction. The only other direction is accuracy. So I don’t know what that means. They’re running infomercials right now, so they have this Faux News tripe beat at the moment.

And now that I look… it’s them talking about how Faux news and the lawyer that Trump himself said he would never hire because the rumors that his lawyers were leaving was fake news all threw Sarah Sanders under the bus… for the hundredth day in a row… if you’re not counting.

OSU is a school. If your panties het all wet for sports but not the real power of knowledge, don’t get on me for your shortsighted pussiness. That’s a you thing. You may not have tried to talk about anything real and lasting. And you obviously bristled when I did. But you’re going to have to face reality one of these days.

And that reality isn’t some leftist conspiracy in a pizza joint, as you seem to think the world has become.

I see where you get it.

      • MSNBC is so much legalese and talk about laws and stuff.

        So boring.

Faux News is now literally talking about polls about narratives (their words) and fake news.

I’m surprised I haven’t heard about Hillary yet. Anytime I watch their “business” channel, I get HRC talk, like she’s relevant or something.

What would you call a business channel that talks about HRC but doesn’t have a proper ticker?

      • I suppose I should try CNN to get the whole effect, but my ride’s here.

You keep on living your little brother existence about nothing important but with your really stupid conspiracies as told to you by other stupids.

        I’m going fishing.

  4. I’ve been out for a few days. Am I understanding this correctly? The shittiest P-12 football program was caught trying to recruit players away from the shittiest Mountain West program? I guess my biggest takeaway would be….why does anybody care???

    • I agree if they’re going to try and pirate players at least kick it up a notch and try WSU. If they got Hawaii’s entire roster they still wouldn’t win a PAC-12 game.

    • You should care because it’s a major violation. We might as well have our coach be present at a signing day and have him walk up to the kid after signing to hand him some keys while the curtain behind him opens and Johnny tells him what he won.

      Other than that… no biggie.

      • You understand I was being sarcastic, but really a program can only fall so far. Unless this is death penalty material, let the discipline fall where it may. and move on. I doubt it changes the trajectory of the program. Reduce scholarships, I guess they lose a couple of scholarships that would have been offered to Big Sky recruits. Bowl game ban? Can you be punished by denying something that’s unobtainable anyway? As said by others, either the staff is incompetent or unorganized or both. Get the punishment over. It’s a minor blip on the dark days that are coming anyway.

        • You’re right.

This isn’t a failure to monitor anything. We just accidentally tampered with another school’s student-athletes.

          Golly gee shucks.

Our stupidity and inefficiency probably saves us due to intent.

        • Heard from someone who knows about such things.

Technically, this is a level 3 major infraction.

How the NCAA treats it will depend on several (hopefully) mitigating factors, the immense stupidity of it being the most obvious. Other factors that are important:
          – It’s the first time we’ve done anything like this. This plus the negligent stupidity of it should be enough to knock it down to secondary status.
          – We self-reported it. Say what you want about Rolo taking advantage of our staff’s immense stupidity on social media, but if he didn’t report it, he did us a solid. Although, it doesn’t look good that we were oblivious to this (to the outside world… OSU football is engulfed in oblivion) until months after we did it. That leads to the next factor.
          – There are more than just Hawai’i players who have been contacted in this way. In order for the “accidental faulty database error” to appear truthful, it has to be an error in which the origin data wasn’t pared to leave only these players. A case could be made for intent if we edited said data but claim negligence on only these players remaining, especially since their current contact info appears to be correct. Someone might start to think that our coaches are targeting these kids, but they’re dumb enough to leave the data within reach of competent employees, like the mail room.

Fallout should be a secondary infraction with some OVs and/or coaching days on the road being subtracted, a pinky swear that we won’t be this stupid again, and we can’t recruit/contact or accept transfer (for football) of any of the players contacted.

She also tells me we’re lucky this happened now and not after June, when tampering rules will be discussed, and penalties may become more rigid.

        • Those observtions without any evidence beyond what is reported. If there are phone calls or active communications with these kids, all the golly gee shucks innocent, one time negligence gets thrown out the window.

  5. Low ego/High output becomes Low IQ/High mockery

I noticed this was the only time OSU has been mentioned on ESPN in the last 4 years though. Are the football nerd geniuses inside Valley outhinking the rest of the west? A tactical slap on the wrist for a bit more coverage…

It is once again a small town version of big time football and everybody outside of our fair city laughs in derision while the pollyannas continue to believe that this is the best we could do. Be careful what you ask for, because it will likely get worse from here on with such low expectations.

In the end, it is just more of the same: OSU is its own worst enemy, and everybody laughs about it at OSU’s expense.

    • I hope we get a slap on the wrist. If we do, that would match how pathetic we are at the moment.

Even tOSU would get slammed for this major infraction.

      Us?

      We’re already being punished.

      • Perhaps that is the point, Beavs football is so pathetic that maybe this should and could warrant a death penalty and finally put us out of the self inflicted misery we are subjected to every fall.

      • And also a Gazette Times article said the mailer went to current players at Hawaii, so that hardly makes any sense, right? They’re from a crappy Mountain West team and if the Beav staff really wanted them, they would need to sit out a year anyway.

  6. Cougs take a 1-0 lead on a solo solo shot but Beavs answer and lead 6-1 middle of the 4th. Nobach with his second HR in as many games

  7. Nate brings in Eisert to take over for Fehmel, b6 1 down, runner on 1b.
    6-1 good guys.

Fehmel gave up 6 hits and a couple solid outs in 5.1, 2K’s, 1BB, 61 pitches.

BONUS, just for fun: Anteaters whip whoreton’s guys in 11 innings, 10-9……….heartbreak, 2 days in a row! Post season hopes still alive?…sure.

  8. Maybe the email fiasco was the work of some third party with nefarious intent. Maybe we should get the envelope back to look for DNA evidence.

  9. S-I even published a story about it…

    https://www.si.com/college-football/2018/05/04/hawaii-coach-oregon-state-recruiting-players-mail

    UH coach tweets:

    Nick Rolovich
    ?
    @NickRolovich

My apologies for our players not being able to attend your Spring game. Ours was the same day, bad timing. Quick question, in the 203 years of coaching, none of you realized you couldn’t actively recruit another school’s players? Sent to campus? #leakydam #sloppybeavers

Hmmm, “Sloppy Beavers” sounds worse than “Beaver Juice.”

      • Ok, so his mean then. Maybe Casey’s warts think Grant can work his way through whatever issues he’s got rattling around his melon. I’m hoping he gives someone else a chance to earn that sunday spot.

        • Bob Lundeberg
          ? @The_Real_Bob
          May 1
Pat Casey said there will “probably” be a new starting pitcher for Sunday’s game at Washington State. He didn’t give a name, but Dylan Pearce makes the most sense #GoBeavs

          Warts?
BTW errors didn’t help Grant’s cause either.

  10. Cougs have one guy in the lineup over .300 and two under the Mendoza line but today are hitting .800 with runners on.

Through 3 the Beavs without a hit

  11. After a walk and WP Beavs had 2 RISP with nobody out and Gretler and Malone strike out. Nobach with an 11 pitch AB but he strikes out. Big fail.

  12. Baserunning error and GIDP erase a promising inning

Abel gives up a solo shot and a bloop base hit.

Doesn’t seem to be the Beavs day

    • One key to the inning…….the speed of Jones out of the box and on to 1st to avoid the DP. We are gonna see a lot more of him next season.

  13. Top of the order due up for Cougs b9, tied at 7.
Has the feel of the kind of heartbreak suffered by little sister the other day and mentioned here earlier by steveEbeaver.

At any rate, Mulholland may get a real workout if it goes to the 10th……and/or beyond??

  14. Parker says the game will end at 4:00 due to flight times. So if it’s a tie, it wont go to further innings and end in a tie. Seems like wsu has no incentive to pitch to us now, and should stall as much as possible to maintain the tie.
They should walk 3 guys and then have a pitching change and ballgame

    • That’s basically what they did. 3-4 throwovers to first in a row, then the 3rd base ump say a lightning strike, so they called the game a tie.

    • Are you freaking kidding me….beavs runner on first and no outs with Kwan up to bunt and game is called. Sure, it’s a travel issue but you can’t let them finish the 10th inning. The announcer said no new innings start after the 10th but they didn’t even get the 10th completed….stupid freaking rule.

  15. As posted above, Casey said there would likely be a change to the Sunday starter vs WSU, didn’t happen.
Now, was the sample so small as to not impact the chances of Pearce to start next Sunday? Was the performance by Abel enough to give him a shot? And what about Burns?
Seems that starting Gambrell next Sunday would be beyond wart worthy……..boils??

Stanford continues winning, D1 mentions their lack of errors in 5 straight games in addition to hot bats. The tie result today for the Beavs makes a sweep next weekend at Goss that much more valuable.

That mention of lack of errors turned out to come to an end today as Tree committed 2 e’s in the victory over Utah.

    • Pearce?….Abel has earned the Sunday spot. He’s been lights out his last two outings with something like 23-24 KO’s. Bench Gambrell and start Abel. I don’t know what else the coaching staff has to see to figure out that Gambrell is not the guy at least for now.

  16. Don’t we basically have to win out at this point to win the Pac 12?

It looks like it will be easier to host a super regional than to win the Pac 12.

    • I don’t see the Beavs taking 2 of 3 vs. Stanford let alone sweeping them. I think we might have a shot vs. UCLA. Our best shot IMO is at 2nd place….Stanford is just too good, but I could be wrong.

      • Stanford has Washington State and UW left after our series with them. They could easily sweep both of those series. Basically it looks like unless we never lose another Pac 12 game, we are destined for 2nd place (or 3rd).

If we beat Stanford 2-1 and take the series, we will still likely need them to lose a game or two against the Washington teams.

Basically it’s nearly impossible to win the Pac 12, or at least it’s highly improbable. Getting a top 8 spot to host a super regional is the most important thing for us right now. Beat Stanford and we’re probably a lock for a top 8 spot. Taking 2 of 3 from them should be priority 1 right now. If we go 1-2 against them and drop the series then we absolutely have to win the last 3 series to be considered a top 8 bubble team. Our RPI will definitely go up in the next few weeks which is helpful.

        • ” Getting a top 8 spot to host a super regional is the most important thing for us right now. …If we go 1-2 against them and drop the series then we absolutely have to win the last 3 series to be considered a top 8 bubble team. Our RPI will definitely go up in the next few weeks which is helpful.”

I disagree with the RPI “definitely” going up. I’d say “very likely” if Beavs sweep Tree and “probably” if Beavs take 2 of 3.

Simply stated, improving on the current #9 RPI will be dependent on results vs Stanford.

Home losses are real killers to RPI and road wins vs USC won’t help offset poor performance against Tree. Even sweeping a faltering(?) UCLA at home would not be sure to erase the hit Beavs would take if they drop 2 of 3 to Tree.

Also, there are not three series left after Stanford (unless you count 2 games vs San Diego as a series).

I do agree that the Beavs are unlikely to sweep Tree and, thus, very unlikely to win the PAC. But, there is that Goss effect, so never say never. Meggs owes us a favor, maybe Huskies knock off Tree once.

Heck of a race and regardless of RPI, how far in the national ranking will the loser of the Tree/Beavs series fall?

          GO BEAVS!

          • The Utah series is the killer. Could really bite us for a top 8 seed.
Luke has to win and go deep in the game against Tree. Assuming we use a bunch of arms Sat. and Sunday, who pitches Monday and Tuesday against San Diego? That was some bad judgment in scheduling.

  17. If it was my call, Abel starts again st tree on Sunday. Before today I thought Pearce would be the right handed stopper out of the pen but he couldn’t get an out today.

Lightening strikes and the cougs don’t coug-it.

  18. Taylor Jones, top 30 post out of TX committed this afternoons while on a visit. Not necessarily the highest ranked get to date by Rueck but I’d have to say it’s the most impressive given who he was going up against. Jones had offers from Miss st, Baylor, TX, Tenn, Stan, UCLA, Louisville, Duke, and FSU.

  19. Regarding the Sunday starter.
It looks like Gambrell is heading down the path of the series of big time pitching recruits that don’t pan out. Eden, Martinek, the Aussie or NZ kid, etc. Abel seems to be the only option, realistically.
Casey and Yeskie missed on a really good pitcher from Gig Harbor, WA that is killing it as a freshman here at Minnesota. Looks like a 6’6” version of Andrew Moore as a frosh. Throws strikes and rarely issues walks.

  20. I see the 2018 edition of the Luke Heimlich Smear Campaign, Part II, has officially been kicked off. This time they’re going for a bigger audience, getting the New York Times involved. I won’t bother linking.

    • Didn’t look like a smear piece to me. Heimlich gave an interview and they rehashed most of what we already knew. It was more fair than anything the O ever put out. There are factions that will never consider Heimlich could be innocent.

      • Definitely not a smear piece. It’s likely initated by Luke’s side to rehab his image for MLB teams.

The big question is why didn’t he say this last year???? If he professed his innocence the entire time since he was charged, why shut up when the story comes out last year?

        • Only thing I can think of was that he was slow to get good legal advice last year. Probably should have hired a strong lawyer and an image consultant when he knew the O was digging around and maybe he would have been able to salvage his draft stock last year. I agree with you that this was likely initiated by Luke. Why else grant an interview to such a largely distributed paper when he could have just taken softball questions from Eggers or the GT. Good move but several months late.

    • Groan. The clickbait headline is real. There are some new quotes in there from Luke, and the meat of the article clearly explains his persistent claims of innocence, yet they still cap it off with doom and gloom in the title.

      • What I enjoyed the most was the number of times he turned down the O for interviews, and gave one to a source about as far away as one could get. Good decision.

  21. New football commit. Local Coos Bay area kid Cory Stover. Tall TE/DE, could play either. I think we want him at DE but I havent checked. He was the most likely next commit in this class and almost announced his commitment a couple of weeks back, but them deleted his offer tweet(which is how i ended up with the archery themed artwork you’ll see in the beavrecruiting twitter feed)

  22. Once again the usual suspects are pushing their fake outrage over Luke. Tabloid artist Canzano and also Dennis Dodd are playing their virtue signal cards again.

It really looks like he was innocent and I hope a pro team takes a chance on him. They could probably get him at a discount because of this.
