Thanks. Definitely worthy of its own thread as this is a heavier matchup than the national final will be.
Kwan sac fly makes it 4-0 in the top of 3rd
Luke is on tonight. Aside from 1 walk on a full count he’s been pretty flawless
Adley makes a great play on a high foul just before it falls into the dugout. Looks like he might have smacked his head or shoulder on the concrete roof over the dugout. Hope he’s ok. Seems to have shaken it off pretty quickly, but looks like it hurt
Will Matthiessen hits a 2 run shot 4-2 entering the bottom of the 5th
Luke gets 14th K of the night to end top 8th. Beavs up 4-2
Pitch count up around 114 (not 100% sure where he is currently)
Luke completes the top of the 8th with his 14th strikeout
Grenier double to leadoff 8th. Keeps his hit streak alive at 21
Wow, error on throw to 3rd on a Madrigal double keep Grenier safe. Should have been an easy out single
Greiner extends hit streak with lead off double
Larnach 2 run single. 6-2, no outs
Larnach drives in a 2 run single 6-2 good guys b8
Larnach caught stealimg 2nd by a hair.
Adley HBP on next pitch. Tough break
If replay existed for conference play he would have been called safe.
I disagree.
One replay looked safe and the other looked out.
That was dumb to send him.
Beavs win!
Went to the game. Great atmosphere. Stanford pitcher was impressive for the middle 5 innings. Wish Luke would have had a chance to go the distance but st 113 probably right call to pull him
Great baseball game
I was at Goss as well, great start to a big series. Luke was in total control the first few innings. Heard there were 30 scouts on hand, I didn’t count but wouldn’t argue with that number.
Amazing atmosphere. Would rather spend the money on a baseball ticket than a football ticket. The boys are playing great!
I was in the outfield bleachers…couldn’t really count the scouts out there! Both pitchers lloooed
Great with the exception of a rough first inning for Beck and one bad pitch over the middle of the plate for Heimlich. Efficient outings otherwise and a lot to like.
Hell yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My gut tells me Furd wins the next two. The Beav Sunday pitching is flat awful.
A strong possibility, but perhaps Bryce pulls a great game out ala the Vandy one last year.
If he is off it could get ugly.
Camberwell isn’t pitching on Sunday. Casey has replaced him with Abel who has looked very good his last two outings with 22-23 Ks in about 14 innings. Fehmel today and he’s due for a solid outing. We shall see….
Auto spell correct sucks. Should read gambrell.
Fortunately your gut was wrong. Hoping it serves you better in its primary purpose….
10-0…wow. Nice.
Would love to see a Beaver football victory against Stanford with that score.
D1 baseball weighs in with the story that won’t go away. I’m starting to think the constant rehashing may be just what is needed. People will either grow tired of it and the sensationalism will be lost or they will eventually decide to research it more and educate themselves – Eggers’ writings would be a good start.
https://d1baseball.com/columns/heimlich-keeps-dominating-face-controversy/
Pretty good read for the most part with a few exceptions….he’s not a convicted felon. Had the writer of this article would have done thorough research, he would not have made reference to a convicted felon….another example of poor research and misrepresenting the facts.
URGENT….ACTION NEEDED NOW
Before D1 closes comments on their hit piece someone here with Facebook and the ability to comment on that story needs to link a comment to the two articles previously published here which were written by an actual attorney with expertise.
Face it, we cannot simply enjoy the result of last nights game and fail to support Luke, D1 will not let us.
Here are the links, don’t allow the readers of D1 to only learn of this matter through the eyes of a baseball writer with no legal training!
http://angrybeavs.com/baseball/13696
http://angrybeavs.com/baseball/13815
I tried, but either the comments are closed or I don’t have the ability to post on their site without a subscription.
I like your activism and do encourage people to do what they can on Twitter, but I think the only thing that will make this go away is Luke filing a libel/slander lawsuit.
Yup.
That wouldn’t make it go away. But the people currently breaking the law need to own up to their actions and face justice.
According to Tim Euhus, the O published a letter to the editor on the subject. Sounds like the person who wrote in basically said “enough already and the constant rehashing of the story is coming off as vindictive. I havent read it, to avoid additional site traffic for the O
As mentioned before my wife subscribes to The Oregonian. Here is the name of the person who wrote the letter to the editor.
Eileen Redden is president of Connecticut Association for the Treatment of Sex Offenders.
So there is another person who actually has expertise on this subject weighing in. The letter itself is relatively brief and does not get into the legal aspects like Meyer. To paraphrase….enough with all of the hatred, sexual offenders can be rehabbed, he was a minor. Those who can’t get over it, may be the one’s who need counseling.
The last is true. But don’t lump them all together. They’ll need counseling for different reasons.
Some are clearly still victim who haven’t reached enlightenment. Some of you think this is playing the victim card. I call it irrational behavior borne of them actually being victims and not seeing the world the way we do. I’m willing to give them my sympathy then forgive them when they one day realize what they’re doing now is counterproductive to their own work, struggle or mission for peace of mind.
Those who would exploit a 12 year-old victim for money/attention by misstating the facts need a different kind of counseling. Their whines sound more like a projection of self-hatred. Sometimes self-hatred pays the bills. Sometimes it’s just free for everyone to witness.
That’s a relatively good read. He’s at least starting to discuss crime and punishment with the respect it deserves. He still refers to the summary judgment Moran’s original libel per se affords anyone who chooses to use it. And he only really asks questions about a subject he clearly doesn’t want to discuss.
But he’s the first of the large segment of writers (beyond Kerry, of course) who cover college sports who has at least given thought enough to ask those initial questions that might lead to an honest reconciliation with the facts.
Luke was lights out. Made their best hitter have a bad day at the office. Not only did he get the win, but also perhaps the most important save of his career. He helped save Adley from possibly receiving a serious injury on the out near the dugout! Legit top 10 pick for sure Better check the padding on that corner.
Sounds like Adley actually did smack his head pretty hard on that play. Looked that way on tv too. Very fortunate he didn’t crack his skull. Pads better go up, like you said.

I will pay for the padding from the proceeds of my thriving, thanks to you all, memorabilia business. The only condition is that I receive signage consistent with the; locker room, dugouts, press box, on deck circle, drinking fountain etc. “Pettibonehead padded area” as a thought starter?
OT: Angie Machado tweeted an article written by the Washington Huskies 24/7 beat writer here: https://247sports.com/college/washington/Article/A-Scouts-View-Oregon-State-Beavers-Football-118173541
Blocked behind a pay site and can’t read the article. If someone subscribes to 24/7, mind giving a synopsis of what lies inside the article?
OT. I went and saw #4 NC State hosting Wake Forest yesterday while in Raleigh. NC State won, but seemed very obvious to me that Beavs are vastly better. No Bias. Wasn’t impressed by Dalk Field, while pretty to look at, the sun completely blinds visiting dugout and stands along third base. Wasn’t impressed by crowd knowledge of the game. And most importantly, no alcohol no beer anywhere in the stadium!?? Just peanuts and dummies and no one had a clue about my Beaver swag.
Obviously they are not golfers.
Beavs up 3-0 after a 2 run madrigal triple and then a passed ball he scores on
Larnach launches a 2 run jack 5-0 b5
Beav bats holding their own against furds arms so far
All these Heimlich articles popping up on mainstream sites are starting to reach “we landed on the moon?!” territory. Everyone already knows. Rehash after lazy old rehash.
When did that happen? Are you shitting me?
In order to shit a person, wouldn’t one first need to eat a person?
It’s fresh clickbait in every different market.
https://www.advance.net/advance_internet/newspapers.html
Apparently people like to read reporting about reporting.
Who knew?
Probably one of the top clickbait themes of all time for Advance. Don’t suppose the editors in NOLA would be asking for more?
gnashing of teeth day for Luke and Beavers haters as the Beavs have dominated Stanfords #1 ranked pitching staff in the country while the Beavs pitching has completely closed them down. Dolphin Boy and Tracy sit on my Facey must be just completely besides themselves right now.
Really?
Act like a dick because other people are evil or wrong? Neither of those reasons are valid.
First sentence, yes. Second sentence – Be better than that, man.
Maybe that is his best. Some people just aren’t good at social interaction.
Taylor ground rule double makes it 8-0
Stanford arm bounces one and Taylor scores #10!
GO BEAVS !
Eisert on to close this out, t9
Final 10-0, find your brooms! (If Nate can find an arm for Moms Day).
Kevin Abel is the Sunday starter….book it.
Casey already announced it will be Abel.
Nice win
Vandy Bryce showed up today with an absolute gem. Sweep em!
What’s with the Monday and Tuesday games against San Diego? Is that sort of thing normal right after a weekend series during the conference season?
I don’t know, but there was a Pat Casey quote about “poor scheduling” from the powers that be. He’s not pleased about it.
He makes the schedule so it’s like Riley saying they should have run it more after the game.
I think the intent was they would help from an RPI standpoint but they are having a subpar season and will hurt the RPI if we lose. The southeast has so many inherent scheduling advantages with all the teams within a smaller radius and west coast teams suffer.
It shoudln’t be hard to program a “distance traveled” variable into the equation. Only a matter of time since it’s so obvious.
The Pac-12 announcers for these games are sooo dull sounds as if they r reading the telephone book out loud. Somebody else listen but on today’s Pac-12 recap I think I heard one of them say that Stfrd won yesterday’s game.
Yeah, one of the rare times where MP is preferable. Eh, actually I shouldn’t say that, I like MP on baseball
It is amazing how biased ESPN college baseball coverage appears. SEC only baseball. No mention of any conference other than SEC. No stories on the #2 vs. #3 match-up out west in PAC12. Are we supposed to believe that Greg Street acted independently last year, and wasn’t actually instructed by ESPN and SEC execs to determine an all SEC outcome all along?
Where is Larry Scott demanding some equity for the PAC12, calling out ESPN on behalf of the Beavs and the conference? If it can happen once without any outcry or protests form the league offices, you can be sure they will try to steal another National Championship for the SEC.
I don’t think NCAA, Pac-12, ESPN, SEC will let the Beavs get very far in post-season play. I suspect they are shaking in their boots, given the Stanford results. It might not be Greg Street, but there will be something. The only protest will be from Pat Casey. Ed Ray will disappear even when he’s in the room. Larry Scott, will be hanging out with the big boys, saying that the Pac-12 just wants to get along and understands why a Luke Heimlich starred team shouldn’t be representing college baseball.
I can’t believe I forgot to mention Barnes; on second thought, I can.
You also forgot the man on the grassy knoll.
Yup, pretty sure Barnes isn’t the man on the grassy knoll; he only walks on water!
Yeah… dehydrated water.
Who is this Zack Lassiter guy?
Holds the title of Beavs “Deputy Athletic Director” and yet, has the balls to set Kendall Rogers straight regarding the atmosphere at Goss?
Better look over your shoulder, Zack, Barnes may be watching!
Kendall Rogers, “How about the atmosphere in Corvallis last night? Watched the final few innings on live stream. Super regional like atmosphere. That’s easily as good as it gets on the West Coast for my money.”
Zack Lassiter Retweeted Kendall Rogers
“Not just in the West. I’ve seen a fair amount on college baseball in the South and @GossStadium is right up there with the best. Thanks #BeaverNation for creating something special #GoBeavs”
Kendall Rogers talking about stadium atmosphere over livestream is like looking at a picture of Antarctica and saying it is really cold. And why did he only watch the final few innings? Wasn’t this a premier Friday night match-up in the country?
An athletic venue that is genuinely special and electric cannot be conveyed over a livestream, nor compared to other first-hand experiences.
Rogers is a fraud and if he really was interested in PAC12 baseball, he would have been there in person. Save the empty platitudes and meaningless praise. He is in the group of lazy national reporters who have passed along the same narrative about Heimlich without the integrity to dig a little bit for actual facts.
Aaron Fitt is there this weekend
True, with his pre-written hit piece in hand!
^^^^^
Well said, ohio
Preston Jones starts in left today, Nobach DH, and as previously announced, Abel on the mound. Other than that it is the same lineup which has outscored tree 16-2 so far this weekend.
GO BEAVS
Beavs gonna need 7-8+ runs to win tonight. Pitching gonna give up at least 6.
Agree, important to not waste opportunities .. .. .. like bases full with no outs and, sadly, Adley K’s.
Wow, called that one perfectly.
Beavs take a 2-0 lead after one
So far, the D is supporting Abel; but 2 HBP and a BB in the t2 is testing them. How long can they dodge the bullet?
2-0 Beavs (with 2 LOB), on to the b2.
Rustchman hits a 2 run double 4-1 good guys in the bottom of the third
Abel at 82 nerve wracking pitches as we go to the t4.
This has the feel of a charmed game, karma smiling on the Beavs…..so far.
Play on Jones at 3rd looked correctly called as “safe” to me on PAC12 replay. Commentators convinced he was out.
Opinions?
Safe. 3rd baseman tagged the turf, no tag made on Preston til after he was on the bag.
Agree.
Beavs up 6-1 after 4
Terrible camerawork all weekend
Appropriate given the caliber of commentators.
After 6 full, it’s 6-4 good guys. Tail end of Tree order due up in the t7, very important to break the sense of momentum now favoring tree. Chamberlain needs an efficient inning.
Any streams for this game?
Furd takes it 9-6 in 10. Beavs up 6-1 early, then 6-5 in the ninth, then coug it :(
No, they Beaved it.
Couged it :)
Gotta pay respect to the original.
Once again, no Sunday pitching dooms the Beavs. Likely costs them the Pac title.
Well, that and whatever the heck that Utah series was…
Able used up all the good luck didn’t leave any karma for Pearce
No surprise, Sunday pitching still the weak link.
Beavs really needed only a key hit or 2 in the middle of the game to have put it away. Bottom 9th hit and run with Anderson at bat and Rutschman running was the gamble that didn’t pay off. If Jack makes contact and keeps it on the ground, Adley may score to win, as it was, strike out/throw out at 3rd. Baseball…
Now they can be a #4-5 regional host instead of 1-2 with the pressure to win. A run to the cws is next.
Postseason will be tough for this team. The most important thing to have postseason is a deep pitching staff. We have an elite pitcher (Heimlich) and a great pitcher (Fehmel), but a puppypen stocked with meatball-tossers. Beavs will need to grind shit out their ass to make it far.
Hard for D and bats to offset bb and hbp on a consistent basis.
Is there a mechanism present for grinding shit? I’m only familiar with the extrusion method.
Inside a fertilizer factory?
You can fit a fertilizer factory in your ass?
Is that impressive or horrifying?
Regardless, I bet it all smells like ass… whatever that means… I’m guessing poo.
Says the guy who said this may not be a 30 win team… had a chance for a sweep and couldn’t pull it off but 2 out of 3 is an accomplishment.
Just got back from the game and gotta say leaving the park it felt like the Beavs lost the series. We just handed that game to the Furd turds. The strike em out throw em out d-p on Anderson and Adley killed the Beavs. Still can’t believe Adley tried to steal and I don’t know if that was a called steal or on Adley. Abel struggled with the zone but still left 5-1 and our bullpen collapsed. Well, that’s baseball and better to lose a game like this in the regular season instead of the post season. That said, the Beavs have to get more consistent pitching besides Luke and Fehmel. Tough game to watch for 4 hours standing on my feet but oh well.
Happy to be wrong on that one. The Utah and Arizona series were no fun, but they pulled it back out.
That’s what she said.
The game was lost by Yeskie and Casey giving the pitchers too long a leash. Prolly cost them the conf. title.
That’s ok. Don’t want that 1 seed. Just a top 8 seed.
Conf title would have been nice.
Don’t know about that, batters were 0-4 with the bases loaded. If you don’t score any runs past the 4th inning you aren’t going to win a lot of games.
I don’t necessarily disagree but we just don’t have the arms on the back end to close out a game if Mulholland and Pearce are ineffective. Not sure who else you can go to other than Eisert if he was good to go. I would have considered bringing Heimlich in for the 9th but that shows the lack of depth in the staff. As good as this team is they may struggle to get out of the regional or win a Super because of pitching.
Agree about the arms but as good as they were yesterday with situational hitting, today not so much. The Beavs coulda rendered the solo shot in the 9th a mere footnote if they had come through in the bottom of the 8th.
MP gave the impression that every Stanford pitcher was 6′ 5″ throwing high 90’s, unhittable and all freshmen; with 3-4 till waiting to come in and pitch. He was extolling Casey’s accomplishments as a leader in the 4th, by the 8th, he was positioning for a “..nice to win 2.. ” ending.
The early concerns show up against the #2 team in the country after winning 2 against them and having them on the ropes for most of the day. Good weekend overall, but I guess it doesn’t mean disaster is looming, other than a general bias against PAC12. Bullpen issues have been the bugaboo. Where has Eisert been for 2 months? He was lights out last year and they don’t really use him. All I’ve heard from MP is that Yeskie is constantly trying to prop up Gambrel, Abel, et al.
Just throw strikes and let the defense play behind them. All of these young guys are feast or famine strikeouts or walks. It isn’t too comforting when they don’t throw strikes no matter how “filthy” the stuff is.
Eisert should have come in at the top of the inning after Abel escaped disaster. Instead they let him go another inning, put two guys on, and then call the wrong guy out of the pen.
What is up with Verberg? Is he on the back of milk cartons in the valley?
Verburg stayed home on the opening trip to AZ and the word was he was going to join the team the following weekend but stayed in Corvallis to work on (I think it was his back) and he hasn’t been heard from since.
I don’t have a problem with Pearce coming in instead of Eisert. Will M was AB and it was right v right (and Dylon struck him out). The bigger issue might be the pitch calling when Jake faced Will with the bases loaded in the 10th.
Nevermind, I see you said top of the inning.
I found out while at today’s game that drew Rasmussen is planning to come back for the beavs next season…..I sit hope he’s able to recover from.two TJ surgeries…we certainly can use his arm.and.leadership. he is the third starter we’re missing this season.
Seriously? I guess it would be a better place to rehab than some minor league hell hole.
I was sitting next to a scout on Friday and asked him if there was any reports about Drew. He really didn’t want to talk about him and finally said, “He has some eligibility left right?”, “He should come back to OSU”
In SEC/ESPN invitational news, all 13 SEC teams get NCAA softball tournament bids.
BWB with bats get sent to Bama, which is like going to Goss. Hope they can beat the hated, for me, Badgers.
JIM WILSON,
Anyone else disappointed that Jim Wilson was not on the radio broadcast of the Stanford series?
Didja catch Parker’s mention of Jim appearing on some sort of NBC Sports NW program?
Thinking here is that we’ve seen the last of Jim’s color commentary on Parker’s broadcasts. The last, that is, until something else changes.
BTW: any info on the distribution of the NBC thing?
I thought his first name was Big.
I watched part of the Portland Pilots vs U. San Diego on Sunday and Jim Wilson was doing the commentary for that broadcast. I think he’s done some of that before.
Big news.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-05-14/federal-sports-wagering-ban-struck-down-by-u-s-supreme-court
Sweet. Maybe with more gambling, the mob will get some of our opponents to throw games.
Youngstown State will be the new Bama.
I was thinking more along the lines of removing the only sticking point the NFL ever had for not allowing Portland to have a team.
Do you think Portland has a big enough fan base for the NFL? Seems to violent for the soccer hipsters.
No. Portland doesn’t have the wherewithal to support NBA, MLB (currently they think they can. Laughable) and an NFL team. They’ve courted the NHL in the past with zero results. Portland is a good one horse city with the trailblazers. Especially since they rarely make it deep into the playoffs it doesn’t replace summer activities.
That “sticking point” was removed in 2007. There’s plenty of reasons Portland doesn’t have an NFL team. As usual, you’re way off base.
Prolly not enough corporate money in the town.
They could have some interesting names…..
The Hipster Duffusses
The Portland Homeless
The Pot Heads
The Leg Tats
Portland Man Buns
Portland Alpha Betas
Over/under on how long before for someone to cries Trailblazers is offensive because “insert stupid and illogical reasons here”
I never paid attention to Sports Action until it kept coming up every time an NFL expansion/NCAA Tourney sites/etc passed on Portland because of it. It is the reason Portland did not get a team in the 90s, when the public sentiment and private money were aligned for once.
For Portland to get one now, it would take a deal like Kroenke did with Los Angeles. The public there, as in Portland, is wise to the whole stadium-building racket and would never approve of a publicly backed facility. But there is no real opposition to the NFL in that city. It has only been that Sports Action was available when Portland was considered a possible front-runner.
In the end, NFL owners are about the money. And leaving the Portland Metro area out of their calculations costs them money in terms of opportunity costs. If the Kroenke method is followed by any ownership group looking to jettison from their current suckitude in some smaller market, Portland residents will hardly make a whimper. Although, you will apparently keep your ears open for all that is whiny everywhere. So you can probably blow it up so that it seems to be 100 times the deal it would otherwise be… as you are now.
If money wants to put a team in Portland, money will put a team in Portland.
As for Sports Action, it looks like we might be getting it back.
http://www.wweek.com/news/2018/05/14/u-s-supreme-court-ruling-likely-to-prompt-the-return-of-legal-sports-betting-in-oregon/
Portland she-males
Even better: Portland shemales.
Pronounced like tamales.
Beavs up to #2 in D1 poll.
https://d1baseball.com/rankings/d1baseball-top-25-rankings-may-14/
Luke named National Player of the week by CB Newspaper, per the team Twitter.
Boy will that piss off Brenda Tracey.
Shouldn’t it be National “Controversial” POTW?
Gives new meaning to bear down
http://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/23504091/former-arizona-wildcats-assistant-coach-sentenced-five-years-prison
That’s really messed up.
What a dirt bag.
Gambrell allows a 1st inning homer but grenier doubles home kwan to make it 1-1
Larnach then hits dinger number 16 to make it 3-1 b1
And rutschman goes yard right after
Shaky 1.3 innings from Gambrell. Lots of stalling between pitches, no confidence. Comes out after giving up another run with 2 still on the corners.
Beavs up 8-3 after 3
Beavs up 18-6, bases loaded with no one on in B6
No one out*
Just checked stats on 2nights game. Why ever couldn’t there be some substitutions especially with so many games in the next few days?
It was just like a regular batting practice.
No confidence in the pitching.
22-6 beavs, have scored 10 runs in the sixth with only one out
23-6
Parker is losing it and doesn’t seem to understand the 10 run rule. First said San Diego would need “17 or 18” runs to continue the game and then came back later and said they need 12.
Game called after 6 and a half, beavs win 23-6
Gambrell is on the Sam Tweedt progression……I mean regression. Can’t harness the obvious physical talent.
Wonder who’s throwing tonight. Casey will have to reach deep into the pen. Prob Britton and Tweedt. Saw Donovan for the first time in a while yesterday.
Maybe Attalah will get a few innings. Verberg has to be injured to not make any appearances this year.
Team might be short on pitching next year. Only a couple arms coming in.
Hopefully Rasmussen will be back.
He’s not on the roster. He may even get a extra year for hardship though it would do him no good for his pro prospects.
Christian Chamberlain to start tonight, per Parker just now on JBS
Lineup now posted and Chamberlain is, indeed, on the mound.
Claunch behind the plate, Preston Jones LF
Triple play!!!
Beavs up 5-0 after 1
Jace Fry pitching for Sox today.
