    • FYI, for those who haven’t started working on their 2018 taxes yet, prepare to be unimpressed by results of the Federal tax reform we went through this year. If you’re single, you might be better off. And any savings you may be receiving this year, don’t worry, they’re going to be fazed out gradually over the next several years. The faze out is intentional, to make it more palatable up front, but in 4-5 years, we’ll all be bitching.

      • No “tax break”or tax reform is meant to stay around. They never have and never will. It’s always smoke and mirrors with our government and that doesnt matter who is in power. I believe the latest tax reform bill was a hope to boost the economy. The GDP sits up near 3% so it’s better in that sense. You want government b.s. to worry about check out the latest gun laws about to be introduced at the meeting of our betters in Salem. Damn people cant leave law abiding citizens alone.

      • More info about the tax results people are seeing, which do not measure up to the lines of bullshit we were all fed when they passed the tax bill in the middle of the night, while you were sleeping. Shocking.
Keep in mind, this is the best year under the current laws and you’ll progressively receive more of the shaft over the next several years.

        • Can you elaborate?

I mean Republicans’ MO for fifty years has been to pass tax plans that benefit the wealthy and then sell them as necessary to the middle class…

        • It’s not like people couldn’t go read the law and see these things for themselves, in writing.

But… tldr… or listen to anyone who did read it.

          Suckers.

  1. OT – Anyone care about the NFL games? Hoping to see Cooks and the Rams make it to the super bowl, and Chiefs over Patriots.

Thinking it might be a Saints/Chiefs SB though.

    • Hoping for the chiefs to get back to the super bowl. Been a long time. Pat’s will be tough, did Brady sell his soul? Guy is amazing

  2. I see USC’s lottery pick freshman Kevin Porter Jr got suspended for tonight’s game. Not sure what he did but he was eligible for the game against OSU on thursday

    • I saw a highlight from the end of Thursday’s game where usc coach wanted a t.o. towards the end of game but porter ignored it and went 1 on 4 and got blocked. Not sure if that’s the reason but coach couldn’t have been happy.

    • Because we were playing D for once. They’re better athletes, but we were out-hustling them and getting hands up on shots and putting bodies on the boards, clearing them for Stevie or Ethan to clean up.

When you’re the aggressor, there’s a natural trade-off. While you see an uptick in your foul count, you also get the ball to bounce your way more often than not. OSU just came out with confidence and played through poor shooting, until it showed up.

  3. Hollins is back doing what he does. Some of the best ball
Movement I’ve seen out of tinkle teams. Quick decisions. If Stevie could hit anything we’d be up double digits.

    • Agreed. This is the first game this year the ball movement has looked crisp, let alone more than an afterthought.

I don’t mind green-lighting the shooters, so long as they make their cuts with purpose and get quality looks. You can’t buy that muscle memory. You have to work for it.

But there were still periods where we looked lost in trying to break down their D beyond the top of the key. Some high post motion would have been nice to see, as opposed to the passing back and forth up top… hoping they would make a mistake on their front.

Anyone think a 1-4 high might work in hoops?

    • If we played like this in noncon, we’d have at least 2,probably 3 less losses. Talent is there, the execution and consistent effort on D haven’t been.

    • I’ve watched a fair amount of games and I have no idea what to make of them. It feels like they can play with anyone but there is never a game that is a sure win or a sure loss. Every game is close, against any team.

      • We still havent played a legitimate tournament team this year, so it’s hard to say how we would match up against good competition. We’ll find out on the road next week. Schedule has been really soft this year.

        • “We still havent played a legitimate tournament team this year”

St Louis? Picked to win the Atlantic 10 and currently tied for first place. Probably the only loss of the 4 I wasn’t annoyed about. The other 3 teams they should have beat.

          • I guess they’re legitimate in the sense that they play an equally soft schedule and have a good shot at putting together a nice record, but their resume isn’t impressive. Likely easy 1st round exit type team

          • St Louis is a good team. They don’t have the upside we have (and had at the beginning of the season). But they play tough and grind teams down. The Tourney rewards worker bees in the first couple rounds. I don’t see them going further than work and luck can carry most teams, unless Bess becomes a lottery pick over the course of the season… and through the Tourney.

The scheduling can always be better.

  4. OT: Thanks to homefry and helmsley for responding to the question on last thread about “rope/horse”. Sorry about that statewide ban, homefry! lol

On Topic: Parker seems remarkably calm and objective tonight.

  5. Tinkle is only shooting .311 on 3s?

Looking at the stats trying to get to know these guys. I know the three main scorers. Who are the up and coming players?

  6. We need to land more 4-star recruits. We haven’t since landing the three coaches sons, right? And those three guys are our best players. Star system seems more accurate in basketball.

  7. These guys seem to have hand problems. Bobbling and kicking the ball all over the court the entire game. Nothing seems fundamental, sure, or smooth.

Just jotting down notes as I watch. Getting to know these guys.

    • Sadly, this is probably the best our ball security has been all season. On the bright side, our transition game showed up, and it looks pretty good.

Lay-ups and dunks… most of which went in… made me happy.

Who knew simple basics like effort and passing makes for a more enjoyable game?

  8. Kind of wish we rested Tinkle after the two minute mark, but can’t complain about this win otherwise. Glad they’ve seem to have learned how to break the press.

    Go Beavs!

    • Just got back from the game. The thing that is really interesting about this team is they played pretty solid defense especially in the paint. With KK, Big G, and WW, they have legit depth and pretty decent talent. Their offense can be a little helter skelter at times, but I liked their aggressive approach tonight. If Alfred Hollins can put together some games like he did tonight, they could be a tough out in the conference. UCLA is really talented but very, very young and undisciplined. They make way too many mistakes but certainly have the potential to be a good club. Overall, solid effort tonight and I think the Beavs had 5 players in double figures so very balanced performance.

  9. UCLA is a sleeping giant. At minimum they should be a sweet 16 team. Alford really messed up and deservedly got fired. Roster has 8, count’em 8 players who were in the top 100 players of their recruiting class.

Any coach should be salivating for the UCLA job. So much talent.

  10. Hot Damn! A double double — mens and womens teams both sweeping UCLA and USC on the same weekend. I wonder how long it’s been since that happened (if ever)? And we got to watch them all.

  11. I saw Warren Washington has his wrist/hand area wrapped during a post-game video of players high-fiving the student section. That fall looked brutal and he was wincing as he sat down on the bench after the play. Anyone heard an injury update?

    • I thought that fall looked bad too, but the broadcasters and his teammates seemed to largely ignore that he took that spill. I was watching Tres react to getting the and-1 call with excitement, while his teammate just took a huge spill and was laying on the floor in pain. Hope he’s ok.

      • I’m just hoping it was taped as a precautionary measure if he had to go back in. He is a difference maker on defense and can finish around the rim. Something the Beavs struggled with last night. How many layups were missed?

  12. does mens bball play better ball as a team without tres?
otherwise, this squad went from total garbage end of preseason
to a legit threat while the rest of the pac is up in the air.

    • Beavs got a lot of great looks from tres when he was posted up in the key when UCLA was in zone. Made good passes but other guys missed easy buckets.

He’s the best finisher at the rim on the team. Can draw a lot of cheap fouls too.

  13. I know it’s still early………….Beavs up to 71st in the NET rankings as of this morning. That’s good but it’s going to be difficult to move up into the “safely in” zone with the way the Pac fared in the non conference portion of the season. Or just win the damn conference tournament. Pac is pretty wide open this year. Why not the Beavs???

    UW – 38
    Arizona – 51
    ASSU – 83
    UO – 84
    UCLA – 92
    Colorado – 93

Absolutely CANNOT lose to WSU or Cal. Old Dominion looks like the best OOC win on paper right now.

    • Too early to even consider any postseason aspirations.

This AZ trip will telll a lot. This is the toughest road trip of the year and historically the beavs suck on the road at asu and ua. A split is a huge victory as the two AZ teams have the best shot at the tourney this year.

Otherwise just being competitive would be nice. Can’t revert to old beavs on the road.
