This is only the second game I’ll be watching this year — the win over Oregon got me interested. From the comments in the prior thread, it sounds like many are in the same boat and slightly interested, so let’s do a game thread.

Go Beavs.

        • The mad bomber Kat Tudor my favorite player too. Tenacious defender, good off the dribble developed that part of her game last year. I wonder if she might qualify for a red shirt although she played in more games than nine but maybe other factors too come into play. Too bad she’s out though as brave really miss her shooting spark and instant offense.

  1. What an epic meltdown by oregon. Up 8 with a little over 30 seconds left and now UCLA ties it. UCLA had a chance to win with a free throw at the end of regulation but missed. OT next

  2. Vernon Adams needs to play a lot more, true PG. I don’t get how Tres can play the rest of the Duck game and then is not available after four days of treatment? Hollins still looks like he has lost all confidence. Beavs playing well now, I hope they don’t run out of gas.

  3. First time seeing WW play. A little skinny, but overall i really like his wingspan and overall high energy. Could turn into a Moreland type defender but with a better offensive game

    • Tinkle doesn’t like PGs.

I’ll still take a 5 pt halftime lead. Wonder if they’ll have the conditioning to keep it up for another half? Hopefully USC doesn’t decide to use the full court press.

    • Right? Reichle needs to set screens and find open spots for 3s. I like what I’ve seen from WW too. Took a shot without hesitation as the shot clock was winding down and made a nice bounce pass to big G for an easy hoop.

  4. I’d have to watch a replay, but does it look like that USC big man Rakocavic travels every time he uses that little spin move in the post?
He spins before starting his dribble. It just looks odd I guess. Bugging me

  5. Great win for building team confidence. Didn’t think they had it in them and am glad to be proven wrong.
Hope they Tres back for UCLA. No reason they can’t be #1 or #2 in the pac after this weekend

    • If they start running the point through Vernon, first pass to tres and let the Thompson’s catch and shoot they might start looking like a team that could be fun to watch.

Love the length of the youngsters.

They have potential if they stop the nepotism express and play as a team.

      • TO after TO in crunch time didn’t take the ball out of the Thompsons’ very shaky hands.

And that was with Vernon on the floor.

It was just painful to watch.

        • Stevie has been mismanaged so badly by this coaching staff constantly being required to do what he should not do: run the point or even really dribble unless part of a press break. Classic example of a kid who shouldn’t play for a parent. I’m sure he’s a practice all star but he has nowhere near the athleticism or handle.

His career as a b-ball player as well as our team has suffered. He could have been a very good player for OSU if he was used properly. He’s one of those funky cases where although he has talent and a good attitude, it’ll still probably be addition by subtraction when he graduates. Coaching staff blinded by loyalty can’t look past his weaknesses and play him properly. And I have no inside knowledge but if I had to guess it’s responsible for chasing what pg’s we’ve had away.

    • Dead silent in Gill and just as Kelley is taking those shots at the end, drunk beav fan behind me yells ‘fuck sc’ during each shot and Kelley proceeds to miss all of them. I had to turn around and remind this yokel that yelling during a free throw for your team is fucking weak

      • Just goes to show there is at least one in every crowd. Reminds me of the WBB game last year vs one of the LA schools (pretty sure SC) where racial slurs were reported.

Dust up on that one gave SJW’s ammo.

QUESTION: Is there more alcohol consumed and less foul language/idiotic conduct at baseball games than at basketball games?

        • Do they have beer in Gill now? I havent been to a game in years
Baseball still get their drunken a-hole fans, but with the smaller venue and quieter game atmosphere, it’s tougher for them to remain anonymous and invisible, so they usually behave a little better.

  6. I don’t get Enfield. Didn’t he scout OSU before this game?

I mean… I appreciate he didn’t implement anything useful, if he did. But really?

If teams decide they don’t need to press, we can compete in the conference. If they do, and our ball security remains obstinately chaotic, we could go O-fer from here.

    • USC did press and Beavs handled it fairly well, which suprised me. 12 TO for the entire game. Had 18 TO against the quacks. Bringing in Vernon helped and he obviously needs to play more.

      • They didn’t really lay it on, though. It was introduced and abandoned. That should only happen once the O shows they can break you down for gimmes. A simple scouting of our team says you break us down before we accomplish that.

That being said, I have subsequently read up on USC, and their depth was a concern for the game. So beating on us would make them punch drunk in the end. The risk of gaining a large lead then losing it is a real one.

  7. Solid win last night. Keep it up and they will be headed to the NIT. (That’s a good thing).

Pac 12 is ridiculously weak so it’s probably a two bid conference for the ncaas, reg season champ + tourney champ. Won’t get in unless they are one of those teams.

  8. Kylor Kelley is just an amazing shot blocker. If he could add some consistent offensive skills to his game and put on some weight, he might have a pretty decent NBA opportunity (which he might anyway).

Last night’s game was one of the few NCAA men’s games worth watching as the quality of the game, excitement, etc. took me back to the 70s and 80s OSU teams. I’m going to the UCLA game on Sunday and hopefully Tres is ready to go.

How’d the Schmucks do last night anyway….LMAO! Ducks, the worst team money can buy!

  9. If Tinkle plays last night, do we win? I’m not sure that we do. The team played together and for each other as much as they have all year. Not sure that would have occurred with little Tinks.

  10. Gutty win without Tres in the lineup.

Going forward I’d like to see Washington, Vernon and maybe even Hollins get more PT. I don’t like seeing Stevie and Tres playing 35 minutes a game. That’s not good as the season progresses.

UCLA is beatable. Oregon had them on the ropes and failed to curb stomp them.

That meltdown brought back memories of USC’s Adam Spanich scoring 6 points in the final 2.8 seconds, including his half court heave at McArthur court to beat them 85-84. I decided to look that one up. The date? January 7, 1999. Just over 20 years to the day it happened. Youtube has it in all it’s glory. Cheers degenerates

    • I thought Hollins would be a big piece this year with his athleticism and defense. He looks lost though and out of control. He doesn’t seem to do things in the flow of the offense and ends up spinning around in the key losing the ball. I hope he can get back to his old self.

    • Top graded QB’s in Pac-12 in 2018 according to @PFF_College

      1. Gardner Minshew 88.7
      2. KJ Costello 87.9
      3. Manny Wilkins 80.1
      4. Jake Luton 77.5
      5. Jake Browning 75.5
      6. Tyler Huntley 75.1
      7. Justin Herbert 74.9
      8. Steven Montez 74.5
      9. Chase Garbers 73.9
      10. Khalil Tate 72.1

  11. Braxton Burmeister transferring from UO. Not that he was any great shakes but they have no one behind Herbert with any experience going forward and only 3 QB’s on the roster. If Herbert gets hurt they are fucked. They might even be fucked after next year if he doesn’t get hurt with that joke of an OC.

        • Nigel Burton on the radio yesterday teased that he’s been hearing Hurts could end up at a NW Pac12 school. I didnt listen to his whole show so i’m not sure if he spilled who he was referring to, but I think mist people assumed it was WSU. But considering Hurts needs to sit a year, he might actually make a good fit at UofO. Sit while Herbert plays, then be the starter a couple of yesrs while they groom their freshman QB.
But true, not a good douche match.

  12. Hey, this is a hoops thread, right? lol

WBB Beavs up 6 at the half, Mik with 17 pts, UCLA coach not liking the officiating.
    PAC net TV.

  13. Beav gals win 83-73, Rueck, ever the teacher, with great comments postgame.

Only 4 of only 9 from 3pt and Rueck says that is to be expected due to the defenses we’ve seen lately. This coach knows how to adjust.
Great court vision tonight, feeding Jo. And “only” 10 TO’s. 15/16 Free Throws.

    • Grymek put up some good #s 12 points, 2 blocks and I think 3 rebounds. Washington had 6-8 points and a few rebounds too but both played very solid defense. Slocum is just an amazing talent and Pivec was great too. Corosdale had 13 points and I think 8-10 rebounds. Not many opps for the the 3 pointer tonight but Beavs ended up shooting 56.1% from the field so I’ll take that % all night long. They held UCLA to 38% shooting so the defense was really, really solid although many of the UCLA points came inside the paint because their bigs are just that talented. Great game and execution on both ends of the floor. Grymek is really showing improvement with each and every game as she’s becoming more aggressive in the post. M. Washington has dramatically improved too hitting those open 8-10 foot jumpers. The mystery player on this team remains to be Katie Mac and I certainly want her to do more offensively but she does do other things not showing up in the stat lines especially defensively.

      • Good points. Rueck indicated that attempting only 9 3’s was part of the adjustment to Bruin D, if future opponents continue to respect the 3 (even w/o Tudor) I expect that to continue.
KT still a big part of the team, made her only 2 pts when it was badly needed.

I’ve been impressed with Washington’s improvement this season, although she had 3 PF’s last night, she has improved in that area. Can’t give Pivec enough credit, 40 minutes and hustling the whole time, she is a good rep in postgame interviews too!

          • yeah, especially cool given Mark Campbell left OSU because they couldn’t apparently attract top level talent at OSU. Could you imagine as an assistant coach and lead recruiter telling S player that you recruited to OSU that you’re leaving because OSU would never be able to attract top level talent. What a great guy.

          • Kelly Graves said he hired Campbell because he was the “”best recruiter” . . . I don’t remember the context – in the NW, college wbb, the world? So, Campbell was the best recruiter but he couldn’t attract talent to Oregon State? Mixed message there.

Campbell left a bitter taste with OSU fans by going to Oregon. Anywhere else, not so much. Dunno if money was a factor. I seem to recall that Oregon was going to pay him far better.

I’ve always paid attention to the postgame handshakes with Campbell/Rueck but they’ve never revealed hard feelings that I could discern.

          • I’m friends with a current players parents and according to both parents that’s what Campbell told their daughter. Yes, I’m sure there were other factors too but to make a comment like that to a player you recruited is pretty low. I don’t hold a grudge on higher pay or any other reason but I do concerning that comment.

  14. Proposed theory regarding Tinkle: He will be a better coach without Tres or Stevie on the roster next year. Perhaps there is a weird vibe for the rest of the team with Tinks trying not to be partial to Tres/Stevie but they have green light for all kinds of garbage plays.

Once all of the guys know they are on equal footing, they relax and just play.

    • Ha, thanks for asking. I’ve made some progress getting that thumb to be independent, problem is that I don’t stick to a regular practice routine. I did follow your advice and work on alternate bass and using three fingers for treble. Piedmont Blues.

Need to make it a higher priority.

How ’bout you? Any developments on the “live show” front?

  15. Not sure who the intended target(s) is/are, but looks like the Beavs will have coaches flying down to LA tomorrow.
Was also told they’ll have coaches up in Alaska on Monday.

    • If you have PAC as part of your cable pkg you may be able to use the “TV to Go” feature to get the game on your phone. That’s what I’ve done. The “To Go” opens up choices of all games being broadcast live.
      Worth a try, good luck.

  16. Gals win by 24, despite 20TO’s and 22 PF’s. Rough game as usual vs SC.
Pivec 29 minutes after going 40 vs UCLA, Washington with a career game; 33min, 19pts, 7reb and 2 blks.
Goodman was the other star today, kept Beavs in it with three pointers early.

SC was held to 25% by Beavs D! Guess you could say they looked like they didn’t know if they’d lost a horse or found a rope!

I’ve forgotten if it is Helmsley or Homefry who reps Montana here, wondering if the “horse/rope” expression is common in Montana? I’m now lookin’ for situations that justify its use!
